When someone asks you how you are doing, what do you say? Do you complain about how “busy” you are or how horrible the weather is? Or are you one of those “glass is half full” kind of folks? If your first inclination is to complain, perhaps you need some tweaking of the mindset. Remember that how you approach every conversation – including conversations with yourself (“self talk”) – impacts you and everyone around you. How you show up

matters.

Ta k i n g a s h o r t t i m e e a c h d a y t o r e f l e c t on what was GOOD can make all the difference. Multiple studies have shown that consistently thanking others, and being grateful, changes our outlook so that we “ a c c e n t u a t e t h e p o s i t i v e ” a u t o m a t i c a l l y, a s that old song says. When we look for the positive, we get more of it (and the reverse is true for those negative thoughts). Feeling positive can lead us into an attitude of abundance; a belief that good things will happen and that our fortunes are not limited ( n o t a “ f i x e d p i e ” ) . We c a n a n d s h o u l d believe that we can “make the pie bigger”

by finding “win-win” solutions, rather than spending all our time trying to be the only one who “wins”. At the quantum level, we are all connected – particles jump around through space from o n e p e r s o n o r o b j e c t t o a n o t h e r c o n s t a n t l y. We r e a l l y a r e a c o l l e c t i v e a n d w e s h o u l d act like it! Because success breeds success (another way to state the law of attraction), if we share our successes and struggles with one another we can learn to be better together – and that makes everyone more successful. In our competitive environment, I’ve heard people state that they wouldn’t share something that works for them with someone else because they might be “in competition” and want to keep their edge. I’d challenge this attitude as wrong-headed. In an environment of caring and sharing we can be happy for the success of our co-workers and they can be happy for our s u c c e s s e s b e c a u s e , u l t i m a t e l y, t h e s u c c e s s of a peer will make each of us better and more successful. CORE VALUE / Practicing INNOVATION in your Everyday Life

W

WRITTEN BY JEN GRUBER

hen we think about innovation, or a person we consider innovative – our focus is often on technology or the person or company’s achievements: How they’ve changed their industry or themselves, and the impact of their innovative practices.

if you perform your tasks in an organized fashion, focusing on clearing the most important tasks rather than spending all of your time on the easy or interesting tasks. This is where a To Do app can help you streamline your day.

What we normally don’t consider is the thought process they went through. We hear a lot about the why we need to innovate, but not how we can actually do it ourselves.

(Here are some top suggestions to try out: ToDo by Appigo. Wunderlist, Google Keep, Any.do, Remember the Milk, Habitica, Trello, and Todoist.)

Innovation doesn’t have to mean a massive overhaul. In many cases, small changes can make the larger impacts on and in your life. How you communicate, how you listen, a new way to organize your day or your approach to email and so on. HERE ARE 5 LIFE HACKS [ I.E. PERSONAL INNOVATIONS] WE ALL CAN BENEFIT FROM 1. Don’t Look at Your Phone in the First Hour of Your Day Give yourself permission not to be reactive with your phone. By starting your day from a place where you are in control of what you do and when you do it, you will free up more cognitive energy to focus on the activities that give you the highest return in your work day. 2. Use a To Do List App Your day will be much more productive

3. Make Your Bed EVERY Morning. Clean the Dishes From Your Sink EVERY Night. “Wait a minute” you might be asking, “How is this going to increase my productivity and overall well being… I HATE cleaning”. It’s a great question. According to many authors on the subject, making your bed can kickstart a chain of good decisions throughout your day. It also means coming home to less stress. The same goes for the dishes. Waking up to a sink load of messy dishes, isn’t the best way to start your morning. It can cause you to start your day stressed, and in a negative mindset, that could impact the remainder of your day (which is ALL of it at this point). 4. Get 7-9 hours of sleep a night. No negotiations. Getting a good night’s rest can improve concentration and productivity. Sleep is extremely important for various aspects of brain function including concentration,

productivity and performance. It has been proven to improve problem-solving skills and enhance memory performance. Poor sleep habits on the other hand can negatively impact some aspects of brain function, to a similar degree as alcohol intoxication. BONUS: Getting adequate sleep won’t just make you more productive. But it’s proven to improve your immune system, lower your risk for heart disease and stroke, help with weight loss and improve your ability to interact emotionally and socially. – Basically. It’s a BIG DEAL. 5. Smile More Often. I bet you never realized that simply smiling would help improve your daily productivity. Science even agrees. For starters, smiling helps lower your heart rate, giving you all of the benefits of having a less stressed heart. Making a conscious effort to smile is also more likely to reduce your stress levels. Did you know you are far more likely to perform tasks more productively if you are happy and smiling, rather than worrying and being upset. That is why people try and bring humor to the workplace. Remember Steve Carell’s Michael Scott in NBC’s The Office? His whole aim in life was to make his office happy, although he was usually spectacularly unsuccessful in achieving this.

Understanding what’s right ADVERTISING & NREC FINES

WRITTEN BY AMY DUVAL CARLSON The “new” advertising rules are now two years old and not so new. While the Nebraska Real Estate Commission (“NREC”) allowed some time for agents and brokers to learn about the new rules and make the changes necessary to comply with the rules, they recently indicated that they are now expecting agents and brokers to be using compliant advertising. In May, the NREC took action against agents who failed to heed the initial warning and make changes necessary to show compliance. The actions taken against these agents included a license censure, $2000.00 fine, and a requirement that the agents take additional continuing education classes. HomeServices of Nebraska does not want any of our agents to find themselves in this situation. To protect yourself, please consider the following in all of your real estate business advertisements: 1. The NREC advertising rules apply to ALL types of advertising. Anything you do to advertise your real estate business must be in compliance with the NREC advertising rules. This includes print advertising, social media, websites, signs, t-shirts, and

even e-mail signatures. 2. All advertisements of your real estate must prominently display the name of your broker, and the broker’s name must be equal to or greater in size than the agent’s or team’s name. Your marketing coordinators can help you measure. If you have questions, please ask them. 3. The Broker’s name must be adjacent to the agent’s or team’s name. While this does not mean the names have to be side by side, it does mean that when you look at any advertisement both names must be in clear view of each other. The consumer should not have to search to find the broker’s name on your advertisement. On social media and websites, the broker’s name cannot be a click away. If the consumer must scroll to find it, the advertisement is not compliant.

please remember that we are here to support you, keep you focused on your business, and not worrying about a commission complaint for your Facebook Posts.

Your managers, your marketing staff, and legal counsel are always happy to answer your questions.

4. In all your advertisements you should disclose that you are a real estate agent, and no advertisement should in any way mislead the consumer or misrepresent who you are, who you work for, or what you are advertising. Remember, these rules were put in place to protect consumers. 5. Finally, if you have questions,
