el l, we made it to MAY. Take a moment to celebrate t he flowers blooming, t he day of MOTHERS (t hanks Mom!) and t he season of commencements. Commencement is an interest ing word, isn’t it ? We recognize bot h t he finishing of one chapter of l ife (high school, col lege, graduate school) and t he simul taneous beginning of anot her. What ’s t hat phrase we often hear about doors and windows opening and shut t ing? This idea of “commencing” is a constant one in our l ives and real ly relates to t he fact t hat change is wit h us every day and everywhere. Given t hat change is al l around us, why is it t hat we often hear people say t hey “don’t l ike change”? Maybe it is because we are framing it al l wrong! What if we simply decided to look at change as commencing from one t hing to t he next, in a natural progression? Wit h a bit of excitement for what may be coming our way and what we can learn from it and contribute to it ? After al l, in every transact ion we are working wit h our cl ients as

t hey commence to a future state. A commencement from bigger to smal ler (or vice versa), here to t here, or old to new. Change, and our abil ity to adapt to it, plays into whet her or not we are resil ient. And accord ing to t he Harvard Business Review, a smal l but intriguing new survey by a pair of Brit ish consul tants confirms t he importance of resil ience to business success. Resil ience was defined by most as t he abil ity to recover from set backs, adapt wel l to change, and keep going in t he face of adversity. This mont h - let ’s find some t ime to smel l t he roses, adapt to t hose t hings we must, learn somet hing new and spend some t ime wit h each ot her as we commence on t his pat h, toget her. Have a happy Mot her’s Day and a wonderful May.
