Shannon’s Snippet Inspiration. We all need it - and it comes in different forms and different ways. The one thing I do know is that the spark of inspiration usually comes from an external source - a conversation, something we read, or something we heard or watched. It is a thought or an idea that takes us out of our usual routine and pushes us to think more deeply, act more boldly or dream more vividly. Or sometimes, it just reminds us of how we should appreciate what’s right in front of us, or better yet - create a spark to inspire someone else in your life. This last part of 2018 is a great time to dig in, discover (or re-discover) what inspires you, and dream big, no-holdsbarred dreams. I’ve been dreaming
W H AT’ S I N S I D E big for our company over this last year and I’m excited to share our vision with you; a vision of abundance, purpose and well-being that abounds within our work families. Let’s work together to achieve our goals and make a positive difference for our communities, our families, and our clients. It just doesn’t get better than that! I’m looking forward to seeing you at the Meet Up on October 24th at the Nebraska Champions Club!

CORE VALUES: LEADERSHIP REALTOR OF THE YEAR
One family, One team, One goal.
MEALS ON WHEELS
CHANGING LIVES ONE MEAL AT A TIME Every September, the Wilderness Hills office volunteers to hand deliver meals to older adults in the Lincoln community. Big shout out to all who help with this amazing program!
Hello All, It is time to start renewing your E&O insurance, and you will likely start receiving notices from E&O carriers. Again this year, we strongly suggest that you purchase coverage through Rice Insurance Services Company, LLC (“RISC”). Fortunately, we do not have many E&O claims, but when we do, we want to make sure that you have the best service. Our experience with RISC has always been excellent. Their adjusters understand our business and work well with our local counsel. This has not always been our experience with other carriers. When you are signing up this year, please consider signing up with RISC. The following is the link to their website and renewal information. http://www. risceo.com/states/nebraska/. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me or your manager. - AMY DUVAL CARLSON
EXPERIENCE - The Rice family and their colleagues have specialized in state-mandated real estate E&O programs since 1989. We provide the group policies in 11 of the 13 states that have group programs and require real estate licensees to maintain insurance.
CONSISTENCY - We handle all aspects of the program, providing ease and consistency throughout the entire process, from obtaining coverage to claims resolution. With other providers, you may have to contact different companies for different issues, such as purchasing coverage and reporting claims.
E&O INSURANCE RENEWAL TIME... WHY CHOOSE RISC? RISC has been honored to offer the Nebraska Real Estate Commission’s (NREC’s) real estate errors and omissions (E&O) program for the past 5 years. We are pleased to continue offering E&O insurance to Nebraska licensees through an independent group program. The independent group policy has a new lower premium and enhanced coverages to help meet market demands. Note: The appraisal coverage is not automatic this year but may be added for an additional charge for licensed real estate agents who are also licensed real estate appraisers. Nearly $1.5 Million in defense costs and damages have been incurred by Continental Casualty Company (a CNA insurance company) on behalf of Nebraska licensees as of August 31, 2016 in the past 5 years. RISC and CNA share a commitment to their insureds to provide valuable coverage to Nebraska licensees. When shopping for insurance coverage, it’s important to ask about the company’s experience and paid claims in Nebraska. Payments on behalf of Nebraska licensees demonstrate a carrier’s commitment to its insureds. The program referenced herein is underwritten by Continental Casualty Company, a CNA insurance company. This information is for illustrative purposes only and is not a contract. It is intended to provide a general overview of the products and services offered. Only the applicable policy can provide the actual terms, coverages, amounts, conditions, and exclusions, which may be subject to change without notice. In the event of a claim, the nature and extent of coverage is determined based upon the claim’s facts, circumstances, and allegations and application of the relevant policy’s terms, conditions, and exclusions. The E&O program described herein is only available in Nebraska. CNA is a registered trademark of CNA Financial Corporation. Copyright © 2017 CNA. All rights reserved.
CUSTOMER SERVICE - We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and the positive remarks we receive from insureds, regulators, educators, attorneys, and others.
DEDICATION - You can be confident we will be here for you after you purchase coverage. Unlike some providers, we won’t cancel your policy or refuse to renew your coverage simply because you have a claim. Even the most careful professional may make an honest mistake or be the victim of a frivolous claim, and we are here to help if it happens to you.
CLAIMS HANDLING - We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and the positive remarks we receive from insureds, regulators, educators, attorneys, and others. Even if you don’t think a claim will be made against you, how a company responds when a claim is made is important, because anyone can be the victim of a frivolous claim or make an honest mistake. Some people assume insurance companies look for reasons to deny coverage. Our duty to find coverage where the policy supports it is our utmost concern.

M O N T H LY B I T E S Let’s talk food make sense to make a broth for your chili? But how does one make a broth for chili? It does not come as intuitive as say chicken broth for chicken noodle soup; nor is it that easy but trust me, the results are well worth the effort! As guided by The Food Lab, here is the guide on how to make a broth for your chili:
THE KEY TO CHILI AS TOLD BY THE FOOD LAB:
This month we are taking the Monthly Bites segment away from a review to talk about what you’re putting in your pot. As the leaves continue to change color and the temperature drops, we are entering the season of soup and today I am going to talk to you about one soup in particular: chili. The key from taking chili from good to great is its base. How do you achieve the desired taste in your chili? Everyone has their own unique chili recipe but many of us add flavor by adding in chili powder. It’s the way I made chili my whole life. Well that is until I read The Food Lab by J. Kenji López-Alt.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THAT BASE.
When you think about most other soup recipes the base for your soup isn’t some powder, but a broth - so wouldn’t it

Take 3 whole dried ancho chilies, 2 whole dried New Mexico red chilies and 1 whole dried cascabel chili, seed them and tear them into rough 1-inch pieces. Add the dried chilies to a Dutch oven or stockpot and cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until the chilies start to darken and release an intense roasted aroma. This should take 2 to 5 minutes but make sure that the chilies do not smoke. Remove the chilies from the pot. Now cook your meat in the same pot you used for your chilies and remove after cooking has completed but do not clean the pot. Once meat is removed, add in one cup of your choice of broth and gently scrape the leftover meat in the pot into the broth and let it heat to a simmer. Once the broth is simmering, add in the chilies. Cook for 5 to 8 minutes until the chilies have softened and the liquid is reduced by half. Pour the contents of a pot into your blender. This is the time to add in the sauces, spices and seasonings you want. Blend until a smooth purée is formed, about 2 minutes. For the full recipe, see The Food Lab on www.seriouseats.com. Leaving homelessness is complicated by these factors, but becoming housed enables people to address these challenges. A leader is someone who is passionate, committed to a cause and encourages and inspires others to develop and grow themselves and their craft. For an organization to be strong it must have strong leaders. At HomeServices of Nebraska we are committed to remaining in the forefront of the future development of the real estate industry. We are fortunate to have incredible leaders at every level our of organization. From our staff to our agents and our office leaders. If someone were to ask you who our leaders are, what would your answer be? Your broker? Shannon Harner? Ron Peltier? Warren Buffett? The answer is really all of these and more. Leadership is both formal and informal. There are leaders with titles and leaders with no official titles, who lead every day because they have a natural talent for inspiring, encouraging and teaching. People to whom others simply gravitate. We are fortunate to have such an impressive array of leaders, both formal and informal, in our organization. It’s easy to look at the “chain of command” to identify leaders, but don't get caught in that trap! I encourage you to look around your office and you’ll see just how many great leaders we have - and I challenge you to jump in and contribute your leadership skills to our organization. We often see individuals partnering up in the office to work on a project together, to motivate each other, or to encourage participation in a charity function and more. Additionally we have several employees, agents and brokers that work with industry groups, such as our Local, State and National Association of REALTORS®, to grow and develop the real estate industry while helping to protect private property rights. Brokerages, agents and clients look to the leadership in our HomeServices family for guidance and future vision. Leadership is one of our core values and we will continue to aspire to be true leaders at every level of our organization. By: Leighun Brabec
