However rather than naively passing on these reports, we await official announcements which have not been made at the time of our production deadline. For example reports have described the commencement of a Pattaya – Hua Hin ferry service from January 1st, however as we have reported on page ……., doubts remain with incomplete and conflicting information being described despite the suggested commencement date being only weeks away. In the Bang Saphan District of Prachuap Khiri Khan there is a little-known shrine to the memory of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, a beautiful temple completed in 1996 on the anniversary of the 50th year of his reign as the nation’s monarch. This site is near to Baan Krut, south of Hua Hin and set on a hill-top with panoramic views over the ocean, bays and beaches. The number 50 features strongly in this temple’s architecture as well as the number 9; in recognition of dedication of the site to the late King. The design was provided by M.R. Mitraroon Kasamsri, who was an architect of the Royal Household. The main building is a square with sides that are 50 metres long and features 9 Chedi (spires). After driving up the steep entry road. The first encounter is with the huge golden Buddha statue named Kiti Sirichai. The Buddha is in a meditation position, sitting cross-legged position facing the ocean. The statue is also known as ‘Big Buddha’ (Long Poa Yai). At the base you will also see the Personal Standard of Queen Sirikit. The next ‘encounter’ is with the two rather imposing and menacing guards before a climb up the staircase towards the main temple building. Location: Thongchai Hill is in the Bang Sapan district of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Travel south from Hua Hin past Pranburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan City, about 60 Kilometres further south turn towards Baan Krut (look for the 382 km post) then head towards the clearly visible hill 5 Kilometres away. It’s well worth this climb to gain access to the temple with even more expansive views from the many portals facing each direction and walls displaying murals showing scenes from Thai history and pictures showing royal visitors to the temples over the years. There are also 37 picturesque statues with image of Buddha, beautifully decorated ceilings, stained glass windows and further steps to the higher building levels. Please note that photography inside the buildings is not allowed. It seems likely that as the year of mourning continues the significance of this temple will increase and become a place of long-term remembrance of King Rama IX and well worth the 2 hour drive from Hua Hin.

6 A Hua Hin Story in Remembrance of King Bhumibol A native of Ban Hua Thanon-Takiab has told her story from 1957, when she helped His Majesty King Bhumibol to rescue a small jeep.
Mrs. Thub Khongleua, 98, the former housekeeper of Chom Khleun Resort at Ban Hua Thanong-Takiab in Nong Kae, Hua Hin, told Hua Hin Today that years ago, she took care of Mr. Phuang Tanthana’s house. He was a business owner of a gold and jewelry shop at Thien Kua Thien. Mr. Phung’s house was located next to the old house of General Praphas Charusatien; both houses were on the beach in Hua Hin. The old woman said that she could not remember clearly the month, but in 1957 an unforgettable situation occurred. “Maybe it was February or April,” she mumbled, “on that day, the sea water receded around 100 metres from the beach. While I was collecting some shells on the beach in front of the Chom Khleun Resort, I saw a small grey and green jeep travelling along the beach from the southern part Khao Takiab. When it arrived at Lang Sa sand mound where the sea water was whirling, the car’s wheels plunged into the mound.” Realising that he could not go any further, the driver, wearing a shirt and a pair of grey trousers, waved his right hand to
the woman. When she approached the car, she realised that the driver was King Bhumibol. The King asked her for help to pull the car out of the sand mound. No matter how hard both of them tried, the car did not move and was stuck in the mound. Even in this difficult situation, His Majesty still kept smiling. Both of them tried again, with the King shouting, “Hui Leh Hui!”, an utterance equivalent to Heave Ho! but in vain. Mrs. Thub then decided to ask for her husband’s help. She then went to where her husband was working with 6 others nearby. When they came back to the scene, they saw military staff helping His Majesty to move the small jeep out of the mound. Before leaving, His Majesty thanked her for her assistance. The old woman will always remember the words used by His Majesty when they were pulling the car out of the sand mound. The utterance, “Hui Leh Hui!”, is always used by a group of 10 to 15 local fishermen in Hua Hin when they want to pull their boat out or in to the sea.

The utterance implies unity and power to all the fishermen. The old woman is still surprised that the King knew how to use such words. She also remembers that even though he was tired, the King did not complain but kept smiling until the military staff came to help him. Mrs. Thub said that she was very sad that His Majesty had passed away. She is certain that the King’s spirit is now in heaven, protecting all Thai people. That is why she will always be a citizen of the King. The woman is now almost 100 years old and is staying with her son and grandchildren in Ban Nongkrached Community in Hua Hin. She remembers the day when she met His Majesty so clearly as if it happened just yesterday.

8 Guardian of the Blue Lagoon
Ensuring the MahaSamutr Country Club’s trademark Crystal Blue Lagoon stays blue is just one of the responsibilities of the man in charge. That person is the Head of Business Development and Director of Operations, Khun Veeranat Limprasutr or Khun Pé as his friends call him. If the somewhat sparkling blue clarity of the lagoon’s waters is any indication, he’s doing a fantastic job; just bring your sunglasses! We found Khun Pé looking somewhat perplexed as he strolled along the dockside which extends onto the lagoon waters to accommodate the various wind, man or electric-powered marine craft. He recently discovered a very small crab which then escaped and disappeared. The very clean and pristine fresh (not salt or chlorineladen) waters will inevitably lead to the crab’s demise and there’s definitely no marine animals allowed in this lagoon. But the question about how this solitary creature arrived in the lagoon remains. Our best bet was that someone was playing a small though bad taste joke. Khun Pé has been an important PACE Development Corporation PLC executive for several years. His previous positions have included being the Vice President of Business Development of the company. His resumé shows over 24 years’ experience in executive hospitality management including positions as the General Manager of Mercure Group properties.
He was responsible for the introduction of the introduction to the Amata Spring Country Club (Chonburi) of the Thailand Golf Championship in 2011. However Khun Pé is not a golfer, even with Banyan Golf Club being a favourite with MahaSamutr Members and just 5 kilometres up the road. Apart from time constraints, he describes a deliberate decision to stay away from the game. This was based on a view that golf would become a distraction to his job focus which would lead to compromised performances both on the course and at the workplace. Perhaps that’s my problem! With construction, engineering and infrastructure experts take care of their roles on-site, Khun Pé has a focus on membership. Private club membership with an almost exclusive access to the many and varied activities is a familiar concept as Amata Spring is also an exclusive private club, albeit very different in nature to MahaSamutr. There are now over 200 memberships sold (that’s over 500 people) who are eagerly awaiting the project’s completion in 2018. That’s one of the challenges of his role. Membership benefits will remain intangible until then. However there are plenty of signs of things to come apart from the lagoon and the villas already completed
and open for inspection. The multi-storey building which will contain restaurants, bars, gym, kid’s club, spa, games room, cinema and accommodation suites is under construction. There will even be an Olympic sized indoor swimming pool which Khun Pé says will help members stay dry when it’s raining! The intangible will soon be very real. Despite the escaped renegade crab, Khun Pé is clearly enjoying being such an important part of MahaSamutr’s progress to completion. He’s well aware that the Country Club is already the talk of the town in Bangkok and wider afield amongst those who are “in the know”. By the way, it’s worth noting the spelling of the name Khun Pé; the French accent (é) lets you know the correct pronunciation which should sound like ‘Pay’. More information at www.mahasamutr.com

9 Thai, Korean & Chinese Businesspeople Grant 1 Million THB Scholarship
Three Thai business people from South Korea and China have recently granted a total of one million THB in scholarships to students of Hua Hin municipal schools. They have also confirmed further financial support in the future. Dr. Dusit Charoen from Thailand, Mr. Sun Lee Park from South Korea and Ms. Enya Wang from China, all of whom are living in Hua Hin, gave the 82,000 THB scholarships to the mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul. The mayor will soon give it to students from seven municipal schools in Hua Hin so that they can further their education to higher levels. Dr. Dusit said after the ceremony that he had befriended the South Korean and the Chinese business people some time ago. The reason why they are good friends is because they share the same family background.
All of them came from a poor and disadvantaged family, but they were determined that, if they were professionally successful when they grew up, they would help young people in terms of educational support. The three businesspeople believe that education can give the disadvantaged better opportunities for the future life. This was also the idea of His Majesty King Bhumibol. The three businesspeople have donated study grants for 12 consecutive years. Each time they gave around 100,000 THB to students of Hua Hin municipal
schools. In total they have granted over a million THB in scholarships so far. Dr. Dusit added that they would continue helping the students because the scholarships could give them better education and good opportunities for future careers. Their donations are is a tribute to the deceased King who is the father of Thai education. A Thai student from a very poor family, Dr. Dusit is a Hua Hin native who went to study a bachelor degree in Bangkok. He also worked as a bus conductor while he was staying in Bangkok to earn
New Safety Plan for Upcoming Festive Season
Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 7 in Prachuab Khirikhan has recently presented a new safety plan entitled, Prachuab Rom Yen (Peaceful Prachuab, in Thai), to protect the province and the city of Hua Hin during the upcoming Christmas and New Year season.
Police Major General Thanayuth Wutthyjarasthamrong said that the Royal Thai Police had instructed him to launch the new safety plan and from 10th until 31th October local police were active in Hua Hin. During the operation, the police seized 170 firearms and arrested 90 drug dealers, 15 with warrants outstanding, 547 illegal migrant workers and 47 illegal motorcycles. Those arrested included Thais and foreigners from Europe and Asia. This has been reported to the Royal Thai Police Office. A new operational program will officially start on 1st December 2016 until 1st January 2017, with a major objective to take special care of local people and visitors focusing on hired gunmen, drug dealers at local communities, illegal migrants and setting up checkpoints on Phetchakasem Road and at local communities to arrest suspects who are on the run in the province. Pol. Maj. Gen. Thanayuth added that illicit drugs are a major problem that the
officers had to solve as Prachuab Khirikhan is a transit point where the drugs are smuggled and sold. Officers need to work actively with authorities from the Office of Narcotic Control Board (ONCB) on drug suppression. The police are aware of who was behind this activity. Pol. Col. New Price List Boards for Motorcycle Taxis
Hua Hin Market Village, along with the Hua Hin Mayor and the traffic police chief, have recently given local motorcycle-taxis drivers price list boards and asked them not to take advantage of any passengers. The General Manager of Hua Hin Market Village Mr. Amornthep Uammeepian, the Mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul and the chief of Hua Hin traffic police Pol. Lt. Col. Phitsanu Lanok presented the boards which show the name of the motorcycletaxi team, the place where the team is located, the number of motorcycles the team has, as well as the prices according to the destination.

10 Prachuap Khiri Khan Provides Sandalwood Trees for The Royal Cremation
Holiday Remains; King Bhumibol to be known as ‘the Great’ Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has said that the government would retain holidays related to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej to express loyalty to the late monarch on the occasion of his birthday, December 5th.
The government plans to honour His Majesty the late King with the title “the Great” after the conclusion of royal funeral rites, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said. He stressed that the royal funeral rites must be concluded before the matter can go forward. The cabinet must first approve the title and forward it to the Royal Household Bureau for endorsement.
Thousands of people headed for the Kuiburi national park in Prachuap Khiri Khan to attend and witness the cutting of
four dead but standing sandalwood trees at a traditional tree cutting ceremony for wood to be used for the cremation of the beloved late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The ceremony was supervised by the Bureau of the Royal Household in cooperation with local administration and forestry authorities. Local authorities estimated at least 10,000 people took part and witnessed the ceremony.Hundreds of residents set up tents near the park and stayed overnight to take part in this significant ancient ceremony. The calendar would have to be adjusted after the new reign commences, officials said, adding that the Royal Household Bureau would take care of the details. However, holidays linked to the late King Rama IX will remain, although with some name changes, because of His Majesty’s profound influence on Thailand, the PM said. He added that he would wait for an appropriate time after the royal funeral to humbly offer His Majesty the posthumous title of “Bhumibol Maharaj”, or “Bhumibol the Great”. Steps such as building a monument or offering a designation to the late monarch would require the Cabinet’s approval and the Royal Household Bureau’s endorsement. The government would also apply the King’s policies in administering the country, such as implementing sustainable agriculture promotion measures, he said, adding that included ceasing rice paddy cultivation in unsuitable areas so farmers could shift to other crops and not be a burden on the government.
Athisit Chainuwat, deputy government spokesman, said the Cabinet had approved three categories of activities to be held to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday: physical, verbal and mental activities. Physical activities include cleaning temples, visiting sick people, reading to the blind and hosting exhibitions; verbal activities included taking an oath of loyalty, performing good deeds and singing the Royal Anthem in front of the King’s portrait; and mental activities included meditating and praying. The main oath-taking event will be led by Prayut at Government House, while others will take place at Bangkok schools and in the provinces at public plazas overseen by villages, tambon or districts. Pattaya to Hua Hin Ferry Update; a New Plan Launched
A privately-run ferry service from Pattaya to Hua Hin is expected to start operations on January 1st 2017, the Marine Department says, but this will be initially limited to a daily round-trip and cater only to passengers, not vehicles. (Bangkok Post) to be popular, a second boat capable of transporting 262 passengers will be used in order to cope with demand. A feasibility study on the car service and suitable routes was expected to be completed last month and an environmental impact assessment would be conducted later, Mr Sorasak added.
The Marine Department’s Director-General Sorasak Sansombat is reported as saying that Royal Passenger Liner Co. was the only firm to apply for a licence to operate the ferry ride after applications opened on August 9th and passing a selection process on September 30th. However in June this year, Hua Hin Today reported on an expansive proposal to provide a ferry service linking Bang Pu and Pattaya to Pranburi by Siam Logistics Co. Ltd. The basis of our report was an extensive planning document provided to us by this company.
The Catamaran ferry to be put into service on the route is a used vessel and is now being refurbished and equipped with facilities to meet the required standard. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this month after which the vessel will undergo seaworthiness test and safety test before it is to be registered.
The company stated that it was “waiting for government approval and then we will process the plan”. The plan was to make a 15 billion THB investment. “Now we are ready to invest in the project, and a number of local and foreign firms have expressed interest in joining us,” said Peerapong Prasopsukcharoen, Development and Planning Manager at the time. Recent reports now say the ferry will be operated by Royal Passenger Liner Co. from the Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya to Saphan Pla, the main pier in the centre of Hua Hin, which has recently undergone renovation. The company proposes to charge passengers 1,200 THB each way, but the Marine Department was looking into the operational costs before announcing the actual price of the service. The company also announced it will offer a free trial of the service for 2 or 3 days prior to the official launch. The exact dates of the free trial are yet to be announced, however this is said to be in late December.

11 Honoring The Late King
The governor of Prachuab Khirikhan Mr. Thawee Narissirikul chaired the opening ceremony to honor the late King Bhumibol, “Hua Hin, Father’s Home”, at Rajaphakti Park in Hua Hin. The ceremony included a report delivered by the mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul, who talked about the activity’s background and objectives. There were over 12,000 participants attending the event, including executives of Hua Hin Municipal Council, the former Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Suwat Liptapanlop and Hua Hin District Chief Mr. Rutpratheep Thamrapheephat. The activity included candle light depicting the message, “Hua Hin, Father’s Home” in Thai, the image of His Majesty the King and the Thai styled number 9. Finally, all the participants sang the royal anthem together in memoriam of the late King whose contribution is unforgettable among Thai people.
Fire at Hua Hin Massage Spa
A fire caused severe damage to a two-story building used by RuanKaew Massage and Spa, which provides Thai-style massage, in Hua Hin in November late on a Sunday night.
Government Approves 10-Year Visas for Foreigners Over 50
Affluent foreign residents over 50 years of age will soon be able to apply for 10year visas, a government spokesman has reported. Intended to promote Thailand as a hub for medical services, the policy was approved by the interim cabinet, according to spokesman Athisit Chainuwat. It would replace one-year renewable visas and come in two installments of five years each, Athisit said. It was not immediately clear when the plan would be implemented.
Applicants must either have a monthly income of at least 100,000 THB or have more than 3 million THB in their bank account, which cannot be withdrawn within the first year after receiving the visa. They must also have health insurance that covers hospital stays and provides at least USD$10,000 in annual coverage. Visa holders will still have to check in every 90 days with the Bureau of Immigration, Athisit said. khaosodenglish.com
The Red Arrows Cancel Their Hua Hin Appearance
Hua Hin Today reported in our November edition that the Red Arrows, the British air force aerobatic team, would be in Hua Hin for as their only Thailand stop during a 2 month tour of Asia and the Middle East. This followed Information in the British media and on the Red Arrows website describinga display and fly past on 11th November. However no information was available on either the time or the specific location. This included official information from the website, Facebook page and emailed enquiries were also sent to the Red Arrows British base but without response. The day before the visit was scheduled (10th November) we learnt via a Twitter
message that the visit to Hua Hin had been cancelled. No reason was given for this cancellation although circumstances following the death of HM the King seem to be a likely explanation. The Red Arrows website has now deleted the description of Hua Hin as a tour stop, although a map showing the tour stops does not reflect this change. Our apologies to readers who showed their interest in the event, many of whom phoned us to receive any updates.
New Hua Hin Immigration Offices Set to Open Next Year Pol MajNaripanatNoojui, a duty officer at Hua Hin police station, said fire engines from Hua Hin Municipality and rescuers rushed to the building in Soi Hua Hin 96 on Phetkasem Road shortly after thefire was reported about 11pm. The fire was burning on the second floor of the building, which houses massage and spa rooms. It was brought under control in about two hours. Shop owner ChairatManomaiwiboon said RuanKaew Massage and Spa had been open for nearly 30 years, providing services mainly for tourists travelling in tour groups.
The shop was closed over the weekend. The cause of the fire is being investigated and the full extent of the damage was still being assessed. There were no injuries.
Work is well under way on the building for the new Hua Hin immigration offices. The 22 million THB project is on Treasury Department land and mooted to open in February 2017. The project is said to be 60% completed. The new offices are to be located at the top of Soi 88. In addition, sources from both the Immigration Department and the Blúport Resort Mall have confirmed that a new passport office will soon be opened for business with five staff at Blúport for tourists and 90 day reporting needs. The service will operate in the Basement next to the SCB Bank and will be opened by the year’s end.

12 Government To Open Bidding for Nakhon Pathom-Cha-am Motorway Next Year The Transport Ministry is likely to open bidding for the 120-kilometre Nakhon Pathom-Cha-Am motorway project worth 80 billion THB next year.
The project is part of the Highways Department’s 2017 action plan, which includes the eastern and northeastern sections, stretching from Bangkok to Rayong and Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaew, and from Laem Chabang Port to Nakhon Ratchasima via Prachin Buri, said Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith. After a seminar held by the department seminar on the development of Thailand’s motorway network, the investment model to be applied to the Nakhon Pathom-Chaam project was being considered, including the details on return on investment. The country’s Intercity Motorway Development Master Plan 2017-36 was finalised last November and included in the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan. Under the plan, the country will invest about 2.1 trillion THB to develop 21 routes with a combined length of 6,612km. The

participants in the government and private sectors to suggest ways to make the master plan more efficient and to mobilise funds for the projects. Besides opening the bidding to private participation, the Transport Ministry will raise capital via an infrastructure fund called the “Thailand Future Fund”, by transferring assets of two routes in service to the fund. They are the Bangkok-Bang Pa-in Motorway or “Motorway No 9” and the Bangkok-Chon Buri Motorway or “Motorway No 7”. The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of the Bt100-billion Thailand Future Fund with an initial contribution of 10 billion THB backed by the Finance Ministry. “The road network is still in need, as it’s outstandingly convenient with door-todoor delivery, given that there is high demand for road transport. Therefore, motorway development is in the focus of the government,” Minister Arkhom said. The highways will be able to enhance Asean connectivity with neighboring countries, he added. Construction stocks skyrocketed by 2-5 per cent in response to the approval of the Thailand Future Fund, apparently reflecting investor confidence in the materialisation of the infrastructure projects.
Cabinet Approves Dual-track Upgrade for 3 Routes The cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a 55 billion THB dual-track upgrade of three rail routes in the central and upper southern regions. The three rail lines are Nakhon Pathom-Hua Hin (165km), Hua Hin-Prachuap Khiri Khan (90km) and Lop Buri-Pak Nam Pho in Nakhon Sawan (148km). Kobsak Phutrakul, vice minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, said after Tuesday’s meeting that an extra ground-level track would be constructed alongside the existing tracks of the first two rail lines. The construction was expected to begin by mid-2017 and be completed in early 2020. There would be 27 stations on the Nakhon Pathom-Hua Hin route and 13 stations on the Hua Hin-Prachuap Khiri Khan. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports of the two routes, with the investment costs at 20 billion and 10 billion THB respectively, would be submitted to the National Environment Board soon. As for the Lop Buri-Pak Nam Pho route, Kobsak said the SRT would need to expropriate 371 rai of land to build a new dualtrack detour around Lop Buri’s city areas and the province’s famous Stupa Pra Prang Sam Yod, which had been affected by the jolts and vibrations of passing trains on the current track. The EIA of this route has been approved by the NEB. The 24.7 billion THB Lop Buri-Pak Nam Pho line would take six years to complete. The State Railway of Thailand would also remove accidentprone railway crossings, erect fences along the entire routes to increase safety and upgrade the current train stations, as well as building new ones. Trump Romps to Victory in US Election
Billionaire Donald Trump led from the start of vote counting to defeat Hillary Clinton and win the US presidential election in a tight race. Trump will take office next Jan 20. However, the Thai ministry does not foresee the US imposing nontariff barriers that could harm global trading, as it would be in breach of World Trade Organisation regulations.
His Republican Party retained control of the House of Representatives and appeared on the verge of also holding onto its majority in the Senate, although several races were far from over. US TV networks called the election for Trump at 1.40am eastern time (1.40pm Thailand time) while some of the western states had barely begun counting votes. He won most of the states considered to be evenly split, including Ohio, Florida and North Carolina. Clinton mostly won only states that were considered firmly in her Democratic Party grip. When US analysts called the election in Trump’s favor, he was winning the Electoral College vote by 274-215. He needed 270 votes to win. The clincher was when he won Pennsylvania, with its 20 votes. Trump also was clearly winning the popular vote, by 48.4% to 47% for Clinton, who failed in her bid to become the first female president in US history. Thai exporters urged to gear for US policy changes Thai trade with the US is unlikely to be impacted this year, but Thai enterprises should prepare for a policy of protectionism and stringent
regulations expected to come into force next year. Commerce Minister ApiradiTantraporn said Thailand’s trade with the US this year was expected to grow by about one percent, worth US$25 billion, while next year is expected to see higher growth at 3 percent. However, Thailand needs to closely monitor new president Donald Trump’s policies because if they are too stringent, the US economy could experience a slowdown. Apiradi said that Trump’s policies could have a positive and negative impact on global trading. On the positive side, the policy to lower the corporate tax and personal income tax would lead to more disposable income, while his pledge to boost gross domestic product growth to 3.5 percent annually should stimulate domestic and international trade. However, any protectionist policy could cause difficulties for trading. He said trading partners, including Thailand, may need to make adjustments and be prepared to face non-tariff barriers and stringent intellectual property rights protection.

Launching an Exhibition at Blúport Resort Mall to Honour the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The management of the Blúport Resort Mall is inviting everyone to join in a commemoration to His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the event “Hua Hin, Baan Khong Por” until December 12th. James often visited the kitchen in the Palace. The King took a liking to James and asked his staff bringing James to meet him personally. Ms. Chantana saw that the King really love James, so she offered the dog to the King where he remained. Ms. Amonwan Eiamsam-ang, the president of Women Weaving Khao Tao met King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit when they visit Khao Tao Village. 14 Food To Avoid During Pregnancy
To reduce the risk of getting a food-borne illness during pregnancy and eating foods that may harm your baby there are certain things you may need to give up or take care with when you’re pregnant. Meat and fish
contain parasitic worms but freezing or cooking kills any worms. Sushi containing farmed fish, such as farmed salmon, is very unlikely to contain parasitic worms. Fish is great for your baby’s health and development, but you should not eat more than two portions of oily fish and certain non-oily fish (dogfish, sea bass, sea bream, turbot, halibut, crab) a week because they can contain pollutants, which may harm your baby.
Pâté (all types), as on rare occasions pâté can contain listeria bacteria, which can be harmful to you and your baby. Raw or undercooked meat, including cured uncooked meats for example parma ham (prosciutto) and salami. These can carry bacteria that cause food borne illnesses and parasites which on rare occasions can cause an infection called toxoplasmosis. Meat should be cooked thoroughly with no pink meat or blood left (rare meat). However, cold cooked meats like turkey, ham and chicken are safe to eat. Liver contains very high levels of vitamin A, which can harm your baby. Shark, marlin and swordfish, as they can contain high levels of mercury that can harm your baby’s developing nervous system. Tuna can also contain mercury, so you should not eat more than two tuna steaks or four cans a week. Raw shellfish, as it carries a risk of food poisoning. Thoroughly cooked shellfish is safe to eat. Raw or lightly cooked wild fish, in dishes such as sushi, unless the fish has been frozen first. Wild fish can sometimes

Cheese and dairy
Soft blue cheeses (such as gorgonzola and Roquefort), soft cheeses with white rinds (mould ripened - such as brie and camembert) and soft cheeses made from unpasteurised milk, unless thoroughly cooked to kill any bacteria in the cheese. Pasteurised soft cheeses like cream cheese, cottage cheese and mozzarella are safe. All hard cheeses are safe to eat, even if unpasteurised or with blue veins (such as stilton), because they contain less water and so bacteria is less likely to grow. Unpasteurised (raw) milk and foods containing it, unless thoroughly cooked, as they can contain bacteria that are harmful to you and your baby.
Eggs Raw or partially cooked eggs, as well as products containing raw eggs such as homemade mayonnaise, salad dressings and some ice creams. Raw eggs might contain salmonella which can cause food poisoning. Most shop-bought mayonnaises, dressings and ice creams contain pasteurised eggs so are safe to eat, but check if you are eating out at a restaurant as they may make their own.
You should limit your intake of caffeine to around 200mg per day, roughly 2 mugs of instant coffee, one and a half mugs of filter coffee or 2 and a half mugs of tea.
Alcohol Alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy. In 2016, the UK Department of Health updated the guidelines for alcohol consumption and clarified that the safest approach was to not drink alcohol at all during pregnancy, to keep risks to your baby to a minimum, removing the previous advice to limit alcohol intake to no more than 1-2 units of alcohol once or twice per week.
Herbal teas Herbal teas should be drunk in moderation (around four cups a day), as little is known about the safety of drinking herbal teas during pregnancy.
Caffeine
Coffee from a coffee shop or restaurant may contain higher levels of caffeine compared to coffee made at home, if you are concerned about the level of caffeine, opt for a reduced strength or decaffeinated coffee.
Peanuts In the past the advice was to avoid eating peanuts during pregnancy, if the parents had a history of allergies. Based on new research, the advice was changed, so if you wish you can now choose to eat peanuts or food containing peanuts (such as peanut butter) during pregnancy as part of a healthy balanced diet, unless you are allergic to them or your midwife or doctor advises you not to. Vitamin and fish oil supplements
Caffeine is found in coffee, tea, chocolate, some sports/energy drinks, some soft drinks and some cold and flu remedies. A high caffeine intake has been linked to an increased risk of miscarriage and a low birth weight.
Supplements or multivitamins containing vitamin A. Fish liver oil also contains vitamin A and should therefore be avoided. High levels of vitamin A can harm your baby.

Lowering Your Triglyceride Levels
Simply said, a triglyceride is a type of fat that our body receives from the food we eat, at least for around 80% of it. The rest is synthesized by our own body. Lessen the amount of food that you eat that is made from flour and white sugar. Because the excess amount of energy in your body from flour and white sugar will be made into triglycerides and accumulate in your body in the form of fat. Try to avoid food that contains bad fat such as saturated fat, trans fat, and LDL-Cholesterol. Examples of these foods are fatty meat, margarine, fried food, and oily food. Try drinking law-fat milk or non-fat milk instead of the normal full-fat milk one. December 1st : Romania National Day
Roman’s National Day marks the country’s unification in 1918 and the formation of the Romanian state within its present-day boundaries. Romania’s full independence had been recognized in 1878 but it was not until December 1, 1918 in the city of Alba Iulia, when Romania – made of Moldova and Wallachia at the time – was united with Transylvania, Crisana, Banat and the Maramures area. National Day has been celebrated in Romania since 1990, after the fall of the Romanian Communist Party.

On 16th December 1971, Lieutenant General Amir Khan Niazi, CO of Pakistan Armed Forces located in East Pakistan signed the Instrument of Surrender. The Instrument of Surrender was a written agreement that enabled the surrender of the Pakistan Eastern Command in the Bangladesh Liberation War, and marked the end of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 in the Eastern Theater.

Santa told us that doing extra chores, or something special to help out around the house between now and Christmas, will get you off the “Naughty” list, and onto the “Nice” list. 4. DECEMBER 5TH: INTERNATIONAL NINJA DAY
Cat herding is as difficult as it sounds. Founded by a California couple, National Cat Herder’s Day isn’t just for people who actually wrangle felines, but also those whose lives or jobs feel as if they are constantly herding around cats. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, perhaps it will help to add the celebration of this obscure holiday to your Saturday schedule. 10. DECEMBER 16TH: BEETHOVEN’S BIRTHDAY
The country also gained full independence from theUnited Kingdom one year earlier on 12 December 1963, so Jamhuri Day is a double event and is generally regarded as Kenya’s most important holiday, marked by numerous cultural festivities which celebrate the country’s cultural heritage.

DECEMBER 9th: CHRISTMAS CARD DAY Just a few decades ago, sending Christmas cards through the mail was a holiday “must”. Sending cards through the mail continues to be very popular. The cost and time for writing and sending cards has caused many people to stop sending them. Free Ecards have surged in popularity. Animated Christmas and seasonal Ecards have made sending and receiving them a lot of fun.
Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya, Jamhuri is the Swahili word for “republic” and the holiday is meant to officially mark the date of Kenya’s establishment as a republic which happened on 12 December 1964.

Stearns By Name; Not Stern By Nature
The Power of Love International Church in Hua Hin has moved forward into a new era with the arrival of newly appointed Pastors, Thomas and Jennifer Stearns, from the USA. However, stern just doesn’t fit as a description for these two warm, generous and passionate additions to the Hua Hin Christian community.
Founder Andrew Stocks and staff welcome the new Pastors to the Power of Love Hua Hin Pastor Thomas says, “My wife and I have personality differences, but we share similar interests. Our similarities are: we are passionate about God and His people, we love to serve the community, we are lighthearted and enjoy laughing a lot. My wife is a great encourager and loves to build up others, particularly women. Her compassion is amazing.” Pastor Thomas says, “We have known for about four years now that we had a calling in our lives to be missionaries. We were actually praying for such an opportunity while we were in the US. Once this door opened up for us, we decided to make a dramatic move of faith to Thailand. We plan to stay here as long as God tells us to, until our mission is complete.” The ‘mission’ includes many plans for the Power of Love Church. Pastor Thomas says, “We are in the process of creating new ministries such as, a men’s ministry entitled Men of God, as well as a women’s ministry entitled Women of God. We also plan to start a marriage ministry and a prayer ministry. Our vision for the Power of Love Organisation is extensive. We feel that we are called to make a huge impact for God here in Thailand.”
December is the month of Christmas, a most significant celebration on the Christian calendar. The Power of Love International Church welcomes both the usual congregation (expected to be around 140) and anyone who wishes to participate. Pastor Thomas says, “We are a non-denominational Christian church. Anyone is welcome to our church. You don’t have to be Christian to join in fellowship with us. God invites everyone to come, and so do we.” Funding continues to be a crucial element in The Power of Love Organisation’s progress. The Church is reliant on donations and sponsorships. Expanding the capacity of the Children’s Home, and supporting the new Senior Pastors (they are essentially unsalaried volunteers), remain unfunded. Sponsorship from the Hilton Hotels & Resorts allows access to and use of the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa for church worship. The Wildtrak is one of the most attractive double-cab bakkies on the market with its imposing, macho styling. It exudes an air of rugged sophistication. It’s as much a 4x4 as it is a fashion item and if capability and stand-out style are what you’re looking for in your bakkie, then the Wildtrak makes the strongest statement in that regard. Performance and economy? Underneath that bulging bonnet lies a 5-cylinder 3.2-litre turbodiesel engine that produces peak outputs 147 kW (200 HorsePower) / 3,000 rpm and 470 Nm / 1750-2500 rpm and propels the Ranger via a 6-speed automatic transmission. An electronically controlled transfer case allows the driver to easily switch between 2H, 4H and 4L. Long-Tailed Boat Racing to Honor Late King Bhumibol
The Hua Hin Municipality, with cooperation of Thai long-tailed boat owners, has recently organized a historical long-tailed boat racing at Khao Tao Reservoir in Hua Hin, aiming to pay homage and express faithfulness to the deceased King Bhumibol.
The opening ceremony of the event, held on 13 November 2016 at 2 p.m., was chaired by the district chief of Hua Hin Mr. Rutpratheep Thamarapheephat while the mayor of Hua Hin Mr. Nopporn Wutthikul delivered an opening speech about the background and objectives of the event. Apart from public officers, distinguished guests, long-tailed boat owners, tourists and journalists also participated in the event, organized at the venue where His Majesty the King launched a royal project concerning the first public irrigation of Thailand. Following the opening ceremony was a big and legendary racing of traditional long-tailed boats led by the procession of the royal barge replicas of Ananta Nagarat and Suphannahong. This procession is under support of the provincial administrator of Phichit Mr. Chatchai Jiamsriphong. that underwent 402 matches in total. Following the big long-tailed boat processions were 9 matches of long-tailed boat racing. Each match was emotionally intensified by famous Thai narrators for long-tailed boat racing. All the matches are honorary because the participants are not interested in winning any awards. They only joined the racing because they would like to pay gratitude to the King.
After the procession of the royal barge replicas, there were 4 award-winning traditional long-tailed boats of Nan, Nakhon Pahom, ratchaburi and Chumphon. The final procession belongs to 119 racing teams of traditional long-tailed boat

29 Strange Purple Sea Creatures Found in Deep Ocean Trenches Scores of spectacular and rare undersea species have been found by expeditions this year to some of the deepest trenches in the Pacific Ocean.
They include strange purple orbs, “mud monsters” and a bizarre swimming sea cucumber reminiscent of a flying Mary Poppins. Another voyage found around 500 new undersea methane vents off the US west coast. This doubles the number of known seeps, bubbling up a powerful greenhouse gas. The gas vents were found by an expedition mounted by Dr Robert Ballard, the man who first located the wreck of the Titanic. In his ship, the Nautilus, the Ballard team found new vents which were discovered off Washington, Oregon and California. Little is known about the amount of methane that is coming out from these vents and how much is entering the atmosphere. But researchers say the new discoveries may better inform global estimates of these emissions.
“Methane seeps were basically unknown 20 years ago,” said Prof Jesse Ausubel, from the Rockefeller University, part of the Nautilus team. “At first people thought they were incredibly rare and now, thanks to these expeditions, these seeps may be very widespread, so the (methane) budgets may have to be recalculated, that’s why the exploration is important.” One of this year’s key expeditions mounted by the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), was a 59 day exploration of the Marianas Trench, the world’s deepest underwater canyons. As well as discovering three new “black smoker” hydrothermal vents stretching up to 30 metres in height, the voyage also revealed some rarely seen, mysterious creatures. “It just underscores how little we know about the ocean and how much more there is to discover out there.”

30 Travelling to Luang Prabang for a Taste of Laos
Laos, Thailand’s Eastern neighbour offers a number of fulfilling travelling destinations. With a number of new bridges spanning the mighty Mekong and cheaper flights from Bangkok to the old Laos capital of Luang Prabang, a trip to Laos has never been easier. Luang Prabang is a tranquil city, perched on the banks of the confluence of the Mekong and Nan Kang. (Khang River). There are exquisite views, charming restaurants, quaint temples, a great night market and for the more adventurous some engaging activities within easy reach. The remnants of French colonisation are noticeable, particularly as a comparison with Thailand, with distinctive architecture of shuttered windows, balconies and potted plants. Sumptuous crusty baguettes are sold at many cafes with the punch of home produced Laos coffee and thick condensed milk to sweeten, if you prefer. Some sights are a must; maybe the Royal Palace and National Museum might be best for starters. Built by the French 1904-1909, it is a blend of Lao and French architecture. The throne shines with mosaic emerald palms, lapis lazuli elephants, silver rivers and golden robes. Royal cars towards the rear of the building are a worthwhile extra. Opposite is Mount Phousi, a hill which affords great views at sunset. Other sights worth visiting, all on foot, and in the central area, are Wat Xieng Thong, the oldest and most beautiful temple in town, Wat Mai Suwannapumaram, Wat Xieng Mouane, and Wat Sensoukaram. When you tire of the temples, drench your thirst with a large bottle of Beer Lao. Iimported hops, give it a distinctive taste. Starting around 50 THB for a bottle, often with a river view to devour, it is an experience to be savored. Maybe in the afternoon organise a boat trip on the Mekong to visit caves, waterfalls and more temples, boatmen are always looking for custom on the banks of the Mekong. Rent a bike or motorcycle and visit, silk farms, caves, waterfalls and more temples. When the light fades, make sure you find an outside bar overlooking the majestic Mekong, meals and drinks in these flimsy structures, are very reasonable, witness the dying embers of the day, over a cocktail or cold beer, the sunsets can be spectacular. Then saunter on to the Night Market, and bargain with the vendors. Much of the souvenirs on sale are similar to produce found in Northern Thailand. But I found the elephant slippers a must at around 200 baht. Take 30% of the suggested price and haggle. In the middle of October there is the Awk Phansa festival, this commemorates the ending of the 3 month retreat of monks to temples for the raining season. Curiously Laotians perform some rituals found during the Loy Krathong festival in Thailand; that of floating banana leaf boats carrying candles. There are boat races, and
a carnival procession one evening, with Laotian groups and communities, proudly parading their illuminated, decorated floats. An air conditioned bus with wide comfortable seats, frequent stops, will take you overnight to Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai in 14 hours! This bus crosses the Fourth ThaiLao Friendship Bridge, and it is an easy painless formality to enter Thailand once again. There are other alternatives. Including a slow boat, that takes two days, and an overnight stop in the dusty backwater town of Pakbeng. This is an arduous experience although there is the daredevil speedboat that takes a mere 5 to 6 hours, ear plugs mandatory; it will bring an exhilarating dimension to your travels.

Running Out of ‘Energy’
Bangkok Post has reported that contractors at The Energy, a condominium project in Cha-Am, claim they have not received any payments for many months and are owed 50 million THB,resulting in them suffering extreme financial difficulties. Representatives of about 50 contracting companies gathered in front of the seaside condominium construction site on Phetkasem Road, demanding the developer pay them the money they are owed as they have bills and employees to pay.It has been noticeable in recent months that work on site has ground to a halt, including work on the ‘six star’ hotel at the site entrance which remains as an unfinished ‘shell’. The workers’ lodgings, remain an unsightly and crowded collection of temporary structures alongside the development,but appear to have become almost deserted with reports suggesting that many have returned homesas casualties of the financial impasse. Representatives of the project developer were not present at the meeting. However Thaivisahave described receiving a letter from ChanokChaisiri,Marketing Director of Baan Rajprasong Public Co., Ltd. The letter says that the company wished to put the record straight. “The problem is that their work (the contractors’) is not of the required quality according to building standards” Chanok added. The Energy Hua Hin project is a large condominium development spread over 180 Rai. It is on the coast in the Cha-Am district of Phetchaburi and some 20 kilometres north of Hua Hin. The condo project has 6,500 units valued at over 2.5 billion THB. Near-by residents have described relief at the halt of the construction. Previously noise from machinery at the site being operated into the early hours of the morning, including during the weekend, prompted complaints to local authorities without any respite being achieved. Rule 14/3b - Appendix IV allows a multi-functional device to be used as a distance-measuring device. The device must not be used to gauge or measure other conditions such as wind speed or direction, temperature or elevation. Doing so would be a breach of Rule 14-3.

Rule 14/3b prohibits a player from using any artificial device or unusual equipment for the purpose of gauging or measuring distance or conditions that might affect his play. However, in 2006, Decision 14-3/0.5 was created to give tournament committees the option of adding a Local Rule that allows ‘distance-measuring devices’.
However don’t assume that a Local Rule has been made; no Local Rule means disqualification! You may also want to consider how using these devices affect your mental approach to the game. The last weekend in October was a big weekend for the golf industry in the Asia Pacific as Hua Hin hosted the 10th Asia Pacific Golf Summit 2016 (APGS).
A Fine Day of Golf
This was a gathering of the best minds, visionaries and industry leaders in the business of golf. Delegates included the owners and managers of golf courses, course designers, golf equipment manufacturers, golf tour operators as well as those who specialise in the marketing and service delivery in an industry which has a major impact on tourism in the region. Our thanks to Mike Sebastian, the Singapore based CEO of the APGS, who invited Hua Hin Today to participate in the Summit as well as to local hosts; the Black Mountain Golf Course (General Manager Harald Ellison), Banyan Golf Course (General Manager Stacey Walton) and the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin (General Manager Christian Wurm) for their hospitality and access to the range of international luminaries and delegates. Highlights of the Summit finale included inductions into the Asia Pacific Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievements Awards as well as recognising the best of the best in the Asia Pacific by country and overall in relation to golf course management, clubhouse, pro-shop, staff and maintenance amongst just a few of the categories apart from recognising the best golf courses.

Industry Insights The final day was a jam-packed seminar at the Hyatt with the key-note speaker, Dr Ken Chu, chairman and chief executive of the giant Mission Hills Group setting the scene. This is the world’s largest golf resort with 22 golf courses in China. Dr Chu built his presentation on a living example – his sprawling US$10 billion complex on Haikou, Hainan and in Shenzhen, China.
We also heard the insights of John Solheim, Chairman and CEO of the Ping Corporation as well as marketing, communication and customer service experts all delivering their message with animated passion and informed personal insight. Special focus was also brought to bear on the challenge of making the game of golf relevant to younger generations like the “Millennials” and generations like “Gen Z”, the new emerging generation. A Gala Affair The Gala Banquet with Awards presentations was a grand evening of glamour and a celebration of the golf industry. Once again Hua Hin golf courses featured strongly; showing that the region really is at the forefront of world golf.

Norwegian Arrivals Herald The Return of Tourists To Cha-Am
Every year in November a big group of Norwegian tourist arrive in Cha-Am signaling a return to the good times; we are happy to report that this year is no different.
Once again golf is a big attraction with golfers in the group participating in the Wirkola Cup at local golf courses. The group is headed by legendary Norwegian and world skiing champion Bjorn Wikola, but golf is not the only entertainment or recreation they enjoy. The joy of Norwegian music and dance is provided by bunch of accompanying musical talent with the ‘Dansegalla’ (no translation necessary) being a main event. We headed to the main of venue in Soi Long Beach, on a day when the soi was turned into a walking street for the crowd of some 140 ‘gala-goers’. By special permission the band was playing as a welcome to very special guests of honour.
Not only were these Norwegians in Cha-Am as Wirkola Cup and Dansgalla participants but also as witnesses to the beach wedding of Hilde and Trond. It seems that the friendships made over years of coming to Cha-Am lead the happy couple to the conclusion that this was the only venue for their special day. Blue skies and white sands on the beach; absolutely perfect. Cha-Am is a great destination for travellers at any time of the year as this group of Norwegians recognise every year including the now newly-weds. Our congratulations to the these guests in Thailand and welcome everyone to the new tourism season.
Got The Yips On Your Chips?, Try This Simple Tip Golf tip December 2016
When I see people yipping chips, it’s usually because their left arm stops right before impact. This causes your right hand to flip over, and thus, a yip.(Pic 1) “The trick is to learn to keep your left arm moving through the shot. Set up like you’re going to hit a normal chip. Take your usual chipping stroke, but when you come to impact, take your right hand off the club. So, your left hand is going to be the only thing holding onto the club. This forces your left arm to power through the shot. Now, deceleration is no longer an option.(Pic 2) After you practice this, go back to your normal shot -- but don’t lose that feeling of the left arm accelerating through the ball. If it’s going through the shot with some momentum, you won’t be able to let your right hand do that ugly right hand flip, and you’ll no longer have the yips. 42 10 Ping’s Solheim: What to Do About Distance
It’s fair to say there is a certain tension between the golf’s ruling bodies; the U.S. Golf Association and the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and golf course operators and equipment manufacturers about potential golf rule changes going into the future. As an example John Solheim, chairman & CEO of Ping continues to be concerned about the issue of PGA Tour driving distance average surging well past the 290-yard barrier. He expressed that concern at the recent 2016 APGS in Hua Hin. Solheim’s proposal, which he has presented to manufacturers and sent to golf’s ruling bodies, calls for changing from just one overall distance standard for all balls to a “ball distance rating,” or BDR, system that would include three types of balls.
“It worries me what might happen with our rulemakers when they see something and how they’re going to react to it,” Solheim said in a recent interview. “I wanted to put this idea out there to give them something to think about.” The three balls in Solheim’s proposal include one that is the same as today’s current standard, a second ball that would be as much as 30 yards longer and a third ball that would produce distances 30 yards shorter than current balls. Courses, tournaments, tours and even individual players could choose their ball based on the course they’re playing or the skill level of the players in the event. Solheim equated the BDR system to varying tee boxes. He envisioned a system which even might allow opportunities for average golfers playing their home course to have slower swingers using the longer-distance-standard ball while faster swingers would play the shorter-distance-standard ball with both players teeing off from the same marker. Solheim concedes that the specifics of the limits on a shorter ball will take time for the ruling bodies to determine, and he freely admits that his proposal is merely a starting point in any discussion. His main motivation, however, is that the
game’s ruling bodies open a dialog on distance rather than unilaterally implement another club rollback or a new, shorter overall distance standard for the ball. “I think something is going to happen, and I tried to give them a way that wouldn’t hurt everybody, especially the average golfer,” Solheim said. “Unfortunately, in the past, many actions have often been short sighted, costly and/or controversial-such as altering some of golf’s most revered courses and adopting restrictive golf club rules.”
French Golf Course Has a Simple But Extreme Dress Code – Naked!
La Jenny Naturist Course, on France’s west coastline, is the only golf course in the world where nudity is not only allowed but a must. US media recently put together a top 10 of the world’s coolest golf courses and La Jenny Naturist course gathered the most number of votes. While it does boast breathtaking ocean views and impeccable playing conditions, many wondered how a small 6-hole course ended up claiming the number one spot. But the judges’ decision sounds pretty sensible when you learn players who want to tee it up at La Jenny are required to do it in the nude. People willing to show off their……………….. golfing skills must follow a strict dress code; nudity is not optional; you must take off all your clothes in order to be allowed on the course.
Secondly, shyness has no place here, so players must show respect for the body and not try to hide their nudity. On the other hand, showing off isn’t allowed either so golfers blessed with anything oversize shouldn’t parade it around for everyone to see. Taking photographs is restricted to close family and friends, and everyone is required to take a shower before heading out on the course. COCA Oriental Comfort Food at Blúport Three generations of the Phanphensophon family have made their mark on the evolution of the COCA brand, a brand which offers simple, healthy dining across Bangkok but also many other Asian nations.
Each restaurant offers a variety of Cantonese cuisine and local taste preferences and this is now available at the Blúport Resort Mall. We were able to explore the origins of COCA and experience the oriental fusion cuisine on offer with gracious host, Khun Pitaya Phanphensophon. It was the early 1950s when Pitaya’s mother, Patama, immigrated to Thailand from China’s food-proud province of Canton. Patama was a chef when she met Pitaya’s father, Srichai. They were married and opened their first Cantonese hotpot restaurant in 1957in Bangkok’s Surawong district. The couple decided on the name COCA, inspired by the Chinese words, “可口”, being ‘kou kow’ which means ‘tasty’ or ‘appetizing’. Cantonese food was hard to come by in Bangkok, so business took off in less than a year. They then opened a larger hotpot restaurant round the corner, which changed to serve steamboats instead of hot pots. Steamboats, which are now commonly called suki (after the Japanese sukiyaki), have been around for thousands of years. “My parents used to go and buy all the food ingredients themselves every morning,” says Pitaya. “My father would go to get the meat whilst my mother went to the vegetable market.” Pitaya has sustained his parents’ legacy by choosing the optimum quality of
ingredients, making them a high-end restaurant where all their meats and vegetables are hormone and pesticide free. COCA was also one of the first ThaiChinese restaurants to cut MSG out of their food. Coca is one of the only Thai chain restaurants that is ISO certified. They also use rice bran oil as the healthiest cooking option. Khun Pitaya’s mother purchased a condo in Hua Hin some 30 years which meant frequent visits by Pitaya and some thoughts of a future retirement here, a dream he looks forward to realising one day soon. One of the driving forces behind Blúport, Mr. Suwat Liptapanlop has long been a COCA customer and so his influence was also behind this latest COCA venture. This relationship also helped in securing a prime Blúportlocation with expansive internal dining areas as well as outside seating and barbecue options alongside the Blúport fish ponds. COCA’s Chief Operating Officer is daughter Natalie, who is the most involved 3rd generation family member and offers a Food Science and Nutritionist perspective. Father and daughter are very hands on with Khun Pitaya on site in Hua Hin from Thursday to Sunday and Natalie also directly involved in the restaurant’s development. Understanding the preferences of local consumers and accessing local produce is a part of that development.
Diners are encouraged to start their meal with a Chinese dim sum prepared by a Hong Kong chef. Cantonese flavours and styles in harmony with local cuisine is what COCA offers without compromise to cleanliness, food safety standards and family friendly. 473 Flying High at Air Space Hua Hin
Theme restaurants use a specialised concept to influence the architecture, food, music, and overall ‘feel’ of the restaurant. Air Space in Khao Takiab is very clearly a ‘themed’ restaurant. A replica of the Wright Brothers’ ‘flyer’, circa 1903, sets the scene, suspended within the industrial feel of hangar spaces.
Universities, positions at notable service industry providers such as the Starwood group, Fairmont Hotel, InterContinental Hotels Group and as a Barista at Starbucks.
The ‘spaces’ are vast and open; two connected glass-house barns (café and restaurant) between green outdoor areas. The spaces offer glimpses of military and other historic memorabilia including shell boxes and airport storage containers but also antique cash registers and even a hand-wound record player just in case of a power failure. The ‘flyer’ is a 95% scale replica of the craft achieving the world’s first powered manned flight; full size may have resulted in the wings protruding through the glass walls, something like shown on the logo! Air Space was only opened in August this year, but has already been recognised for the design concept and shortlisted as one of the most stunning interior design restaurants & bars of 2016, announced by the INSIDE World Festival of Interiors held in Berlin in November. Our host at Air Space was founder Kornsiri Sooppakitkul, who not coincidentally, has the nickname of ‘Air’. She recognised that New York may be the epicenter of the world’s restaurant culture and spent two years there to gain an understanding of the trends and was then inspired to design and open her family’s own establishment. Put together these experiences, her family’s love of antique memorabilia with her nickname and Air Space was born, or perhaps we should say, took off. Word has already travelled far and wide and visitors from Bangkok to Hua Hin have been prominent. I questioned a comment Khun Air made …..“There’s nothing to do in Bangkok”. What she really meant was that it’s too hard to commute across that vast city to get to many special places. No such issues in Hua Hin.
Apart from the two distinct indoor spaces, separated by ample outdoor dining tables, there are also two distinct dining styles on offer. The less formal style involves western comfort food, largely of American influence of the southern or Tex-Mex variety is proved by the café. If the occasion calls for a more sophisticated style, then a fusion of Thai and European cuisine awaits at the restaurant. Individual diners have ample inspiration for shared conversations, but Air Space provides an ideal venue for larger gatherings, including the private use of one or more of the 50 person spaces. Get in quick for a Christmas or New Year celebration. Theme Restaurants provide a reason to dine within a setting which is out of the ordinary, but there still needs to be a dining experience which is equally noteworthy.

Dances of the Northeast of Thailand – Grace & Passion Dance techniques in the north east as renowned for their grace and passion. Although there are many different styles of dance originating from rural Thailand, the style features the complex hand movements and notable distinction that a man and woman should never have physical contact with intriguing intricacy.
Serng Kratip Khoa
This folk dance is generally performed at traditional festivals. The choreography is entrusted to the dancers who wear brightly colored costumes, and expresses all the joy of the celebration.
Serng Krapo (Coconut Dance)
Fon Phu Thai
Krapo is the word for coconut in the Northeast dialect. The dance illustrates the activities of a group of nubile girls from the southern part of the region, known as I-San. The dancers hold two coconut shells, with which they execute complex choreographic movements, shaking them, tossing them or tapping them lightly. This dance is often accompanied by the sound of the pong lang, a kind of upright xylophone, made of strips of wood arranged according to the musical scale.
This dance is performed during traditional celebrations. Usually the word serng is added to the name of the domestic object used on stage by the dancers. In the case of the Serng Kratip, the dancers carry the typical rice baskets, known as kratip. Their movements imitate those of the women who bring food to the men working in the fields. The choreography is accompanied by music with a lively rhythm. The instruments used are a long drum, charb (cymbals), grab (a kind of castanet), mong (gong) and the kahen (like an old-fashioned syringe).

This dance is part of a propitiatory ceremony performed by the Phu Thai tribe, who live in the Northeast of the country. The music that accompanies it is played on typical instruments like the gong ching (a tribal drum), along with other drums and pipes. 12 56 Traditional Italian Christmas Cake – The Pandoro Christmas is fast approaching and therefore this month we are providing a recipe of the typical and most known Italian Christmas cake, the “pandoro”.
Its geographical origin is Verona, town of Giuletta and Romeo, and its history is dateless. Some say it’s discovery goes back to the time at the time of the Venetian republic in 1500, other thinks that it is the remaking of a cake having the shape of a star, the “nadalin”. Officially, it was born on October 14th 1894 when the pastry chef, Domenico Melegatti, made a soft cake with the shape of a star with eight points, designed by the impressionist painter Angelo Dall’oca Bianca who waited at tables of the rich Venetians. The pandoro is a soft cake smelling of vanilla, sugar and butter and garnished with a sprinkle of icing sugar just before cutting. Preparation takes a long time, however the satisfaction of serving a homemade pandoro pays back every effort. Ingredients: 18gr. of brewer’s yeast 3 whole eggs plus 1 yolk 170gr. of butter 450gr. of flour 1 vanilla pod 60ml. of milk plus 3tbl. spoons 125gr. of sugar plus 1 tea spoon 1 tea spoon of salt Method: Start with preparing the first dough Dissolve 15gr. of yeast in 60ml. of warm milk with 1tbl. spoon of sugar, the yolk and 50gr. of flour. Mix well, cover and let the dough rise until it doubles the volume (about 1 hour). Dissolve 3gr. of yeast in

3tbl. spoons of milk and pour it in the mixture. Add 100gr. of sugar, the egg and blend, pour the dough in a bowl with 200gr. of flour and kneed using your hands. Add 30gr. of soft butter and continue to kneed, then cover and let it rest for a further hour. Now, let’s prepare the second dough by adding 200gr. of flour, the eggs, 25gr. of sugar and the vanilla pod’s seeds and kneed. Flatten the dough, fold it and place it in a buttered bowl. Let it rise and then, place it in the refrigerator for about 8-12 hours. Turn over the mixture on the table and with a rolling pin form a square in the centre of which put 140gr. of soft butter. Combine together the 4 corners of the square and place it in the refrigerator for further 20 minutes. Repeat the procedure one more time and finally make a ball to be placed in a buttered mold (20 cm. high) having the shape of a star with 8 points. Let it rise until it will come out from the mold. Bake in the oven at 170° for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature at 160° and bake for further 50 minutes.

Introducing Thailand’s “Bird’s Eye” Chillies they measure on average only 3 to 5cm in length and approximately 0.5 to 1cm in width at their stem end. This hot chilli pepper has a potent, lingering heat. When green its heat is immediate and intense, once at the red stage though they may at times have a delayed potency that grows in heat the first few minutes after consuming. Thai “bird’s eye” chilli peppers derive this nickname due to their unique appeal to birds who do not have pain neurons that humans do, hence they are oblivious to the intense spicy nature of this very potent chilli and they spread the chilli seeds when nature calls. Thailand food is more than just a beautiful sight, it smells wonderful and tastes even better. What’s the secret? It’s got to be the spices. In fact, Thailand is notorious for producing some of the hottest dishes in South East Asia; and, we all have the Thai “bird’s eye” chilli to thank for that which is a cultivar from the species Capsicum Annuum which grows on bushes up to 2 metres high throughout Thailand.
Additionally, in Thailand they are known as prik kee noo which literally translates to “mouse dropping chilli”, a reference to the petite size of the pepper. Don’t be surprised to see Thai people eating these fresh bird’s eye chillies whole. If you are not accustomed to eating hot and spicy food, do not try this! Apart from a key ingredient in many Thai recipes, freshly chopped bird’s eye chillies with fish sauce and lime juice is served with a multitude of Thai dishes. Bird’s eye chillies can also be dried out in the sun and then ground to make chilli powder or chilli paste.
So, How Hot are Thai Bird’s Eye Chillies?
The system that measures the hotness of chillies is called the Scoville Scale named after its creator, American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville and it counts how much of a natural chemical called capsaicin (which gives the sensation of hotness) is in each type of chilli pepper. The least hot chilli is the bell pepper which scores 0 Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) at the other end of the spectrum you have the World’s hottest chilli according to the Guinness Book of World Records; the infamous Carolina Reaper that is rated as an incredible 1,569,300 SHUs. Apparently, in order to cook chillies with such an extremely high SHU score people have to wear chemical masks and a body suit! The Thai bird’s eye chilli is ranked at a modest 100,000 to 225,000 SHUs, a “light weight hot” chilli you may think but do not be fooled – they are blisteringly hot. We are still dealing with one of the hottest and spiciest things on Planet Earth. You do not want to scratch your eyes after handling these little yet menacing fruits!

True to its name, the Oceanside which is located in central Hua Hin really is ocean side; you couldn’t get any closer. From here there are great ocean views and a very pleasant sea breeze ensuring that you dine in comfort.
This is an exceptional Sunday all you can eat buffet brunchand BBQ served by very friendly staff who ensure that your glass of wine or champagne is always topped up rather than having to ask. Whilst you are tucking into your scrumptious food washed down by your wine or champers you can sit back and relax to background live music from “The Voice” Pamela D who also sings requests. Nothing too loud, just soothing music. Absolutely no “Rap” music.
In summary, if you really want to impress your loved ones, family or friends then you would be hard pressed to find somewhere that matches the Oceanside’s Sunday brunch; it is exceptional and in a great setting.
Towards the end of our visit whilst having a great coffee and consuming yet more apple crumble we were amazed that each guest was given a great big red candy floss by Manuel
