3 From The Editor This month we’ve made a big deal about big Indian weddings. Indian weddings are a big deal; first of all for the families concerned, but also for Thailand tourism and as a major funding injection for our region. We were privileged to become ‘embedded’, which included being outfitted with a traditional yellow turban at a big Indian wedding at the Sheraton. This proved to be a lavish, colorful and exotic occasion; these Indians certainly know how to party! Another theme is of the nautical variety. A re-enactment of HR Highness the King of Thailand’s single-handed sailing epic across the gulf from Hua Hin to Sattahip (Chonburi) 50 years ago was part of the 2016 Hua Hin Regatta. We also had a sneak preview of the redefined Pranburi Marina, providing a much needed boating facility with all the necessary services for locals and visitors. The Regent Beach Resort has also been in ‘re-definition’ mode as yet another example of how Hua Hin continues to progress as the destination of choice for travellers, whether on the domestic front or from an international perspective.
Hua Hin Today has continued to grow over the 13 years since the first edition. Below are the important ten team members that ensure that the content and quality continues to improve. The latest member is Ornusha Pinvorasarn, the newly appointed General Manager, who has just arrived and will be getting out and about in February. We will be featuring her in the next edition so that you can get to know her more.

4 The First Hua Hin Photo Festival ‘Shoot Me Please!” The 1st Hua Hin Photo Festival was launched at the Sheraton Resort and Spa on 19th April with a sneak preview of photos now on exhibition during the Festival.
Those wearing the Festival T-shirt imploring others to ‘Shoot Me Please! were safe in the knowledge that guests were ‘shutter bugs’ rather than those who may have taken this invitation more literally. The month long Photo Festival provides the opportunity to gaze upon the works of Thailand’s most recognised photographers in a street exhibition, at galleries and to participate in workshops which may reveal some of the secrets of photography as an art form. One such artist in attendance at this event was Tom Potisit, the winner of numerous awards and presenter at photography workshops. He is a freelance photographer based in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai,
specializing in distinctive art and creative photography. Around 30 of Thailand’s best photographers will be exhibiting during the Festival at a variety of venues focusing on Naebkaehat Road from 29th April to 29th May. That’s the road where you’ll find

The Sailing Club Hua Hin Welcomes the 2016 Regatta
In April, 1966, His Majesty King Bhumiphol Adulyadej sailed single-handed his OK Dinghy which he had built himself from Klai Kangwon Summer Palace in Hua Hin, travelling 60 nautical miles before arriving on the Toey Ngam Beach in Sattahip, Chon Buri. The journey across the Gulf of Thailand took an amazing 17 hours.
Over 300 competitors from across Thailand and many other Asian as well as European countries took part in the 2016 Regatta. The organising authority was The Yacht Racing Association of Thailand (YRAT), in conjunction with the Royal Thai Navy, Tourist Authority of Thailand, Cha-Am Municipality and Phetchaburi Province.
The Hua Hin Regatta 2016 was held in April and celebrated the 50th anniversary of this achievement. Early morning on 17th April, a fleet of around 50 boats in a variety of classes set off from the Hua Hin beach to replicate the journey of HM The King. However on this occasion Royal Navy craft provided an escort to ensure that all arrived safe and sound well before dark.
YRAT President Admiral Kraisorn Chansuvanich presided over the opening ceremony at The Regent Cha-am Beach Resort. During the Regatta Royal Thai Navy ships were chaperoning the fleet off-shore and the eager helping hands of navy sailors provided the first greeting and for returning competitors.
His Majesty the King originally gave the rudder of Vega to the Royal Thai Navy who, in turn gave it to the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand to use as a perpetual trophy for this event every year. This trophy is handed to the winner and their name is inscribed on it.

The Lord Mayor of Hua Hin has chaired a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Department of Community Development and the Department of Local Government aiming to put in place measures to improve waste management and standards of cleanliness within local communities and tambons. 5 HOWZAT? Cricket in Hua Hin
The 21st Bangkok Post Hua Hin Invitational Cricket Sixes tournament was played at the Dusit Thani Hua Hin in April. The outfield was in perfect shape and the pitch set to assist both batsmen and bowlers with the weather sunny and very warm. The 20 participating teams were particularly strong, especially in the toptier Cup competition. The 2015 winners, Thai Thevada, was boosted by the addition of national team star Bobby Raina and Australian Mick Lewis. A strong Carlton CC line-up, two more experienced Melbourne (Australia) clubs, and the Walton Warriors all had their eyes on the Cup. Writing about cricket for the uninitiated requires explanations about many expressions that are a part of the game. Our first example, ‘Howzat’, is really a shortened version of ‘How was that?’, a shout imploring the umpire to declare a batsman dismissed. Or as the somewhat laconic Australian commentators put it “that’s salmon and trout” or in rhyming slang ‘that’s out’ or dismissed. The ‘initiated’ are likely to have come from one of the traditional cricketing nations; namely England, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa and the
grouping of Caribbean islands known as the West Indies. More recent arrivals on the cricket scene include Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Thailand is an associate member of the International Cricket Council (the 2nd level) since 2005. Thailand’s elite was certainly influenced by the British, and cricket infiltrated Thailand via the kids of elite Thai families who studied in England and were subjected to the game. The traditional form of cricket has eleven team members, sometimes lasting over five days and few restrictions on who can bowl or a maximum score for a batsman. A Test Match is the oldest, and the most intense form of cricket. The first officially recognised Test match began in Melbourne, Australia between England and Australia on March 15, 1877. As English bowler Jim Laker once said: “The aim of English cricket is, in fact, mainly to beat Australia.”
The Bangkok Bike Thailand Challenge 2016 in Cha-am is a bike competition for the Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup. Some of the revenue will be donated to Sirindhorn International Environmental Park. The competitions are for Road Bike which are Open (Men & Women), 30 – 39 Yrs, 40 – 49 Yrs, 50+ Yrs, 18 years old or lower (Men & Women), Team (5 people), Mountain Bike Open, (Men & Women) and ‘Ride for the Princess’. The Hua Hin Sixes Version of Cricket As the name ‘sixes’ suggests this version of the game (there are many others) has six members per team, 5 x 6 ball overs and only one over per bowler. A batsman can only score 35 runs before compulsory retirement. This is a fast scoring game with not many fielders out there to intercept the ball. With only one innings for each team, a game lasts for about 40 minutes. Results Walton Warriors, who represented Bangladesh in the Cup segment of the tournament, became the first team to be unbeaten on their way to lifting the title. Former captain of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team Naimur Rahman Durjoy, along with other national cricketers including Elias Sunny and Mohammad Sharif played for Walton Warriors. Mohammad Sharif scored an unbeaten 22 while Elias Sunny scored 16. Sunny was awarded player of the match prize for his all round performance as he also claimed one wicket.

6 Thai-ing the Knot in Hua Hin Cornering the Big Indian Wedding Market The Greek’s can say what they like - nobody does the big fat wedding the way Indians do. The Indian nuptials’ long parade of rituals and feasts lasts several days, always involving at least a hundred guests in the most colorful, elaborate and lavish party you can image. A majority of the guests came from Dubai, India, Canada and England with a few coming from America and Australia. Lavnya and Shaan are both based in Dubai but with a Punjabi heritage, their wedding followed the traditions of this Northern Region of India.
Some Observations It’s very apparent that ‘family’ is a revered institution in India and in other countries where Indians have settled. Indian families successfully maintain relationships between distant continents over many years. During the wedding we met one lady from Bombay who was being frequently texted by absent family members from different countries wanting an update. Once upon a time, Indians married at home and perhaps put some money aside for what was perceived as a splurge on a honeymoon abroad. But as India enters the mainstream of globalisation, the big fat Indian wedding has increasingly looked east for lower prices and more exotic pictures for the wedding album. Thailand, as the world’s favorite destination for foreign weddings, is only a four-hour flight from Delhi and Mumbai. While India is a major market, only 50% of the Indian
baht. The average duration of each wedding is three to five nights, with approximately 600 rooms booked. It still costs two to three times more to host a wedding in India than in Thailand, says Satish Sehgal, a former President of the ThaiIndian Business Association. “What makes Thailand unique for weddings is the warm hospitality, proximity to India, world-class hotels, choice of cuisines, value for money and a ‘Can Do’ mind set. Thailand has a wide range of destinations to offer for the entire wedding party, although we have noticed there is a distinct preference for the beach resorts,” said Runjuan Tongrut, a recent Director the TAT New Delhi.
So What Is An Indian Wedding In Hua Hin Really Like? To experience first-hand an Indian wedding in Hua Hin, Hua Hin Today sought the assistance of Kwan Kongprueksahati, the Marketing Communications Manager of the Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. We sincerely thank her for introducing us to an Indian family who, some 12 months ago, booked their big fat Indian wedding with 200 guests at the Sheraton. Lavnya Tuli (the bride) and Shaan Dewan (the groom) and their respective families graciously welcomed us as their guests with our assurances to respect their wedding as a very special family occasion. Our sincere thanks for their amazing acceptance and hospitality. The couple chose Thailand as their wedding destination because Shaan was eager for the wedding to be a ‘destination wedding’ and, based on his experiences visiting the Sheraton as a guest at a friend’s wedding and with Lavnya’s love of the ocean and the beach, the Sheraton’s open beach frontage presented the best option. Shaan’s family have been Dubai residents for around 40 years, so local knowledge would have allowed the costs to be managed, but a decision was made for a ‘destination wedding’ and Thailand was the best option. Choosing India itself also had the potential for a blowout in guest numbers. weddings that come to Thailand are actually from India itself. The rest are Indian nationals typically from Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the US, Europe and South Africa. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reports that the average spend for an Indian wedding in Thailand is 10 million

The Sheraton had recommended the wedding planners from Bangkok (Nipunika of eventsbynipunika.com) and independently Nipunika had recommended the Sheraton decision made! It’s not practical for just any Resort to host an Indian wedding with a flexible mindset needed to accept a variety of outside providers, including food and beverages.
A pairing of the couple by the family, with the first meeting being on the wedding day, is no longer in vogue. However it was apparent that members of these families had been active match-makers in the early stages of Shaan and Lavyna’s courtship. The compatibility of the two families remains an important factor for the success of the marriage. ‘Indian time’ (much more expansive than ‘Thai time’) means that no one expects the schedule to be kept and being over an hour late is no big deal. Yet somehow guests figure out when to be where; that’s a skill in itself. Ceremonial and decorative components of the wedding are complicated and intricate. Adherence to traditional Hindu practices needs lots of advice and support by experienced ‘aunties’ as well as the religious leaders present. Late night parties really mean early morning with the daylight hours greeting many party goers. Sunglasses are an essential accessory of the wedding attire.

8 Total Foreign Investment to Exceed 450 Billion This Year The government is confident that this year’s total foreign investment will exceed 450 billion baht as it is encouraging the Board of Investment (BOI) to come out with more strategies to attract foreign investors. This is the view of Dr Somkid Jatusripitak, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economy. He said that statistics show a significant three to fourfold increase in investments for this year compared to the same period in 2015.
Current investment figures total 89.9 billion baht compared to only 26 billion baht for the same period last year.
This would mean that at the current rate, 45% of the targeted 450 billion baht for this year has already been met.
The majority of these investments are from Japan, China, South Korea and Singapore. European investment in the country particularly from Germany also shows strong signs of improving, he said.
Accordingly, he has tasked the Board of Investment (BOI) to go on the offensive to attract even more investment into the country. As such he was able to state with confidence that he expects total foreign investment for the year will exceed the 450 billion baht set by the BOI.
For the second quarter, Dr Somkid said foreign investment was expected to increase by 100 billion baht, bringing the total foreign investment for the first half of 2016 to 200 billion baht.
“It is important for us to look after them until they will not even consider looking outside Thailand.
That is why I have asked for a ‘special task-force’ to be set up by the BOI just for this very reason to closely look after their every need,” he added. Source: Thai PBS
Clean Water For Ban Phamak School A Completed Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin Project The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin has proudly announced the conclusion of their ‘Clean Water Project’ at the Ban Phamak School. The school has around 160 students from a small Karen community of about 650 inhabitants west of Hua Hin close to the Myanmar border. The Club’s aim was to provide an eco-friendly and sustainable way to access clean water by the community.
The project committee has been under the leadership of Members Joachim Drewitz and Michael Ruess. Their technical knowledge was used to source and supervise the installation of the necessary equipment. The project involved the installation of energy efficient equipment, including a water pump powered by four solar panels generating 1000 Watts of electricity,
replacing two aged and partly damaged diesel powered pumps. Water is pumped from a nearby river uphill over hundreds of metres to water tanks then filtered and distributed to school outlets as drinking water and for personal hygiene. A proportion of the water is used for irrigation of the community’s farmlands. The project budget of 270,000 THB was funded from the Club’s contribution of 50,000 THB but also thanks to fantastic financial support from the German aid organisation; ‘Stuttgarter Hilfe für Flüchtlingswaisenkinder aus Myanmar’ or in English - ‘Stuttgart Help for Refugee Orphans from Myanmar‘ (SHFM). SHMF is a non-profit association managed by President Mrs Eva Hoetzel and her husband Dr. Gerhard (‘Jerry’) Hoetzel, both members of the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin. A cheque for 200,000 THB had previously been handed to President Christoph Leonhard by Mrs Hoetzel. Stating that “together we are strong”, SHFM will continue to closely cooperate with the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin to help Karen children in Thailand.

Javan Rhinoceros Skeleton Found at Kuiburi National Park
Kuiburi national park rangers in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province said they have found skeleton of a rare Javan rhinoceros which went extinct from the country many decades ago. Chief of the marine resources conservation of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Mr. Wan Chatree said as the park rangers were on a field inspection of the Khao Kwang coastal area in Kuiburi, they were informed by villagers that they found a big skull of a large animal in the sea about 100 metres from the shore. They went to inspect and initially they suspected the skull might be that of the Javan rhinoceros, which is amongst species that went extinct from Thailand many decades ago. Thai PBS English News

9 Mike Verdrengh – A Flemish Entertainment Celebrity In Hua Hin With a career spanning the roles of a DJ, quiz presenter, TV talk show host, actor and director; it’s no wonder that Mike Verdrengh is a household name in Belgium. He has also been Chairman of the Flemish Television Academy and credited with the establishment of TV station VTM. His latest project has been to play the part of ‘The General’ in an epic musical set on the WW1 western battle front of Flanders. “Mike’s appearances alone exude power and authority. He is a strong actor with a special charisma, in fact he has, all his life, been a great General.” Jo De Meyere (colleague and longstanding Belgian Actor/Director) Mike’s been coming to Thailand for over half his 70 year lifetime’; gravitating towards Hua Hin as a ‘home away from home’ ten years ago. He makes the Centara Villas his base, including for golf and he relishes the time he is able to spend amongst Thai culture and the Hua Hin ambience. Mike describes the Thai people and culture as sophisticated and resilient. Sophisticated is also a description he uses for Thai food. With Belgian cuisine being amongst the most respected in the world, this is something he has appreciated over the years; “don’t think that it’s simple or unrefined”. Hua Hin continues to attract more than a fair share of celebrities. Whether they are sporting stars, entertainment icons or leaders in a multitude of other professions, Hua Hin provides an environment which suits their needs. Of course the natural attractions and an escape from the European winter comes into play, but there is more to it than that. Many of these personalities really enjoy time away from the limelight, including media attention. Being introduced to Mike, but uneasy about disturbing that anonymity presented a dilemma. But for Mike talking to Hua Hin Today was no chore; it’s just a part of his lifestyle. Accordingly we had a relaxed, easy conversation with anecdotes a-plenty and shared insights into the world of entertainment (he’s a frequent Hollywood visitor) and the culture of his home country, apart from his appreciation of the local scene.
One of Mike’s observations is about how Hua Hin has become an attraction to those who have reached the stage in their lives when they need safeguards in case they encounter health problems. He has travelled to many other places where there cannot be that level of confidence. A high standard of health care is just another reason why Hua Hin attracts the ‘grey haired’ generations.
Several days after our discussion, Mike was off to Dubai, then who knows where. He has no plans to retire from involvement in the diversity of his entertainment projects. Mike says; “there will always be someone writing a story”. We guess this means there will also need to be someone to tell that story and he’s a great story teller!

2016 Songkran Festival In Hua Hin & Cha-Am
On 13th April, the Hua Hin Municipality celebrated the traditional Thai New Year of Sonkran at Phon Kingphet Memorial Park. This festive event, chaired by the Hua Hin mayor Mr. Noppron Wutthikul, was attended by the municipal executives, the municipal council members, directors of local schools and representatives of local communities. Before the opening ceremony of the event, the participants participated in the bathing of the Buddha image and the ceremony of pouring water on the senior’s hands to ask for their blessing. Holy water from the Abbot of Huay Mongkhol Buddhist Monastery was also sprinkled on participants as the New Year’s blessing. The Songkran procession then progressed from the memorial park to go round the city. The Cha-Am Songkran procession travelled along the beach road then along Narathip Road towards the municipality offices. Here are some images of the Songkram 2016.

The coronation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej took place on 5thMay 1950. His Majesty is the ninth King of the Chakri Dynasty. On 5thMay of every year, the Thai people rejoice and express their affection and loyalty to him by organizing a celebration on his coronation day. Prior to the reign of King Rama IV (King Mongkut), there was no coronation ceremony in Thailand, there was only private ceremony held by high ranking officials to celebrate their Royal Regalia and positions in the 6th lunar month. On 4thMay, the Coronation Ceremonies begin with the proclamation of the Coronation Day read by the Chief of Brahmin priests followed by an evening chanting performed by Buddhist monks. On 5thMay food is offered to monks and a celebration of the Royal Regalia. At noon the Army and Navy fire a 21-gun salute in honour of the king. His Majesty the King also presents royal decorations to people who have made a valuable contribution to the country.
The Royal Plowing Ceremony is called Pra Ratchapitii Puetchamongkon. It is an ancient royal rite held in Cambodia and Thailand to mark the traditional beginning of the ricegrowing season and ensure fertility of crops. The ceremony has been performed in Thailand since the Sukhothai period, some 700 years ago, and is closely watched by farmers across the country. The Royal Ploughing Ceremony is deemed a vital event by Thai farmers for their agricultural fortune, signifies one of the prominent traditional features of Thailand’s cultural identity.
Visakha Bucha Day or Wan Pra Yai marks the three important incidents in the life of Lord Buddhaon the same day – the full moon of the sixth lunar month. The three significant separate events are : 1. The Buddha’s Birth 2. The Enlightenment of Buddha– While sitting under the Bodhi tree, he found his answer and attained the enlightenment at the age of 35 years. 3. The Nibbana-The Buddha passed away on Tuesday, the Vesak full moon day, at the age of eighty years (around 2547 years ago).

Mehendi or henna is a paste made into designs as a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centered on the idea of “awakening the inner light”. Traditional Indian designs are representations of the sun on the palms. This is a day for the ladies to be ‘decorated’.
The couple takes the saptapadi, or seven steps, as they vow to support each other and live happily together. Finally, the groom applies a red powder to the centre of the bride’s forehead and ties a black beaded necklace around her neck, symbolising that she’s now a married woman.
Day 2 Sangeet The term Sangeet, when translated into English literally means ‘sung together’. The Sangeet is a time for celebrating, singing, dancing and joking. It includes some good-natured ribbing of the couple’s soon-to-be in-laws and a perfect time for wedding guests to meet and get to know each other.
Performances of the Bhangra, a frenzied Punjab folk dance, takes centre stage at the wedding reception. No encouragement needed to join in or any particular dancing skills, the rhythm is very infectious for the old and young, just go crazy!

In Shaan’s case, he had already undertaken the more formal version with an older brother, so this was less formal than usual; a ‘messy’ and according to Shaan a very cold confirmation of his ‘adult’ status.

The groom traditionally arrived at the ceremony on a decorated white horse. This is not always a practical option and in Shaan’s case both the arrival at the ceremony and later the couple’s departure was by Tuk Tuk. To quote Shaan he was ready to “Tuk Tuk her away.”

Growth hormone helps eliminate free radicals, restores brain and body function, enhances regeneration, and boosts the immune system to strengthen our body. Injection of growth hormone may only be done by doctors. Too much hormone causes certain diseases, such as diabetes and colonic cancer. Growth hormone that comes in a tablet or an insufflation (inhaling a powder or aerosol), it is considered to be a supplement and is different to that given by doctors.

But other factors were at play. It was 20 years since Faldo won England’s last Green Jacket, and 30 years since Nicklaus won with his son Jackie on the bag wearing caddie number 89. Willett’s caddie Jonathan Smart was, needless to say, wearing 89. Some things are just meant to be.
Danny Willett shot a flawless 67 to win the Green Jacket after a thrilling final round as Jordan Spieth imploded around Amen Corner. The Englishman claimed his maiden major by three shots to become the first Briton to win the Masters for 20 years. Defending champion and overnight leader Spieth, 22, led by five shots as he approached the 10th at Augusta, but then dropped six shots in three holes.
The American ended with a one-over 73, tying for second with Lee Westwood. Westwood, another Englishman, carded a three-under 69 on the final day to earn his second Masters runners-up finish.

Want to hit it farther?, hit a draw
Golf Tip 26, May 2016 I know, you’d love to hit a draw off the tee. You’d probably pick up some distance, and let’s be honest, a draw just looks better. You look like a player. Half of what you need to do comes in the setup. First, aim the clubface where you want the ball to finish, say, the middle of the fairway. Then, set your body closed, with your feet, hips and shoulders aimed at the right side of the fairway.(Pic 1) From there, swing the club back along your stance line, or slightly inside your normal path. Coming down, feel as if you retrace that path and the club moves in to out through impact. Finally--and this is where most people go wrong--make a smoother swing through impact. This allows the arms to release or roll over, which closes the face and produces the draw. If you try to rip it, the body tends to rotate open quicker, and that makes it tougher to close the face. That’s actually a fade swing. So get your setup right, then make a nice, smooth pass through the ball making sure to finish in a balanced position .(Pic 2)

‘It’s Mango Season’ at the Laksasubha Hua Hin Mangoes are one of the most popular fruits in Thailand. This is a sophisticated way to enjoy this most refreshing fruit during the hottest months of the year accompanied by the cooling breezes of the beachside setting. Thai people, in addition to being a wonderfully delicious fruit, the mango holds a much deeper significance directly connected to the origin of Buddhism. It is said that the Buddha himself was presented with a mango grove in which to find repose in a shady area. The only bad news about eating mango directly from the tree or market is that peeling and slicing mango can be a rather messy affair. Some people believe that the way to eat a mango is in the bathtub or naked on a deserted beach. There is a much more civilized way to enjoy mangos at the Laksasubha this month! ‘It’s Mango Season’ was being celebrated when we visited the Laksasubha Hua Hin Ocean Front Restaurant last month, offering a wide variety of mango dishes and cocktails especially for mango lovers.
For na/mango tartar, fresh mango spring rolls, fries prawns with mango/avocado salsa. Main Course: Fries sea bass topped with green mango salad, grilled salmon fillet topped with mango salsa, grilled chicken breast topped with mango sauce. Dessert: Mango yoghurt shake, deep fried sticky rice ball with cocoanut sauce, deep fried mango with lemon sorbet.
About the Laksasubha Hua Hin
It’s fair to say that the Laksasubha Hua Hin is one of Hua Hin’s ‘unseen’ prime ocean-frontage properties. There is a fascinating living history with the GM and owner M. L. M.L. (Mom Luang) Laksasubha Kridakon, the great granddaughter of H.R.H. Prince Nares Varariddhi Kridakon, making her home on the property.
The name of the frontage road of the Laksasubha (as well as the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas next door), Naresdamri, can be translated as ‘the place where Nares lives’; just one indication of this history. There are still holiday homes on the property from an earlier era when royalty and their guests enjoyed holidays in Hua Hin. Returning guests have the opportunity to discover Hua Hin’s history and become a ‘virtual member’ of Khun Mom Luang’s extended family. We hope to visit Laksasubha again soon and be able to share that story. Summer is the perfect time for wine coolers, switching to a cooler makes wine easier to drink. Make spritzers with a house white wine, mixed with ginger ale or a lemon-lime soda and served with a lemon twist or wedge. Whether you want to call it wine cooler or spritzer, it really is a great summer drink. What should you use when making your own wine coolers? Well, don’t reach for the bottom shelf wine that just doesn’t taste good, on the other hand, don’t go crazy and uncork an expensive bottle of wine, either. Look for a wine that has a fair amount of acidity to it, i.e. “yes” to sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio, “no” to chardonnay that’s spent a lot of time in oak barrels. For red wines, Spanish wines are, not surprisingly, a good choice since sangria is a Spanish invention. Servings: 1 Ice 4 ounces sauvignon blanc wine 1 ounce silver or blanco tequila Juice of 1 lime 3 ounces grapefruit soda Combine all ingredients in a tall, ice-filled glass. Stir gently, then serve immediately.
Servings: 1 1/2 vanilla bean 4 ounces cabernet sauvignon wine 1 ounce spiced rum 2 ounces pineapple juice Ice Seltzer water Split the vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scrape the seeds into a tall glass. Add the wine, rum and pineapple juice, stirring to combine. Add ice and top with seltzer water.

Servings: 2 3/4 cup watermelon chunks 1/3 cup frozen peach chunks 1/2 ounce lemon juice 6 ounces prosecco sparkling wine In a blender, combine the watermelon, peaches and lemon juice. Puree until smooth. Using a mesh strainer, strain into 2 sparkling wine flutes, then top with prosecco.

Hailing from Royal ancestry, this Royal dish called ‘Khao Chae’ which directly translates to ‘rice soaked in water’, is food for so that the summer heat won’t be big of a problem, Just grab bowl of KhaoChae and you are good to go, you can beat this 35 degree weather.

The Regency Cha-Am Beach Resort has hosted a big contingency of media representatives given the opportunity to better understand how the Resort has positioned itself in the region’s tourism activities and to talk about the future as a ‘redefined’ Resort facility.
According to one dictionary explanation, to redefine means to “give new meaning to.” “A really fantastic song might redefine what rock and roll can mean to people. A great muffin might redefine the idea of what a muffin can be. David Gooi, the Regency General Manager, gives guests the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities beyond just a relaxing holiday experience with all the expected modern amenities is a big part of this redefinition. The company has spent 100 million Baht for the refurbishment from swimming pool landscape, guest rooms and new banquet facility - the Sky Beachfront Deck.

The Regency commands a very large acreage so there is still plenty of room for more activities with a living ‘cultural village’ to showcase local crafts and traditions on the drawing board. The aim is to make sure that guests have the opportunity to become as active and involved as they choose ‘on site’. ‘Little Greece’ in Hua Hin
When I asked her why a Greek restaurant in Hua Hin, she explained that her son-in- law Giorgos is Greek. He designed and built the restaurant and has a Greek cook with him who has trained the Thai Cooks. “All our dishes are homemade”, she said. “Proudly we use original ingredients, such as ouzo, metaxa, olive oil, Greek feta, Greek yogurt and wine vinegar which are all imported. Fresh produce is collected every morning from the local market.” The Greek Taverna Is a small authentic Greek restaurant at the end of Naresdamri road (the Hilton road) decorated in the original colors of Greece; blue and white. This is a small green oasis in the middle of the city offering delicious original Greek dishes with colorful Greek paintings and flowers covering the walls and entrance. The sounds of Greek music will take your mind to the friendly Greek tavernas of Santorini. After being greeted by the lovely waitresses with their traditional blue and white uniforms, the Manager Khun Trip, a lovely Thai lady with a big smile, offered a glass of traditional ouzo accompanied by pita bread and the famous tzatziki. She commented that this is the best way to start your dinner.
The dinner to follow included moussaka (layered eggplant and potatoes with a spiced meat filling and a topping of bechamel sauce), a hot plate of pikilia (a selection of pork and chicken), souvlaki with biftek (feta sealed between two seasoned ground beef patties). This was served with homemade potatoes, a real Greek salad with feta and olives followed by traditional baklavas. To finish we enjoyed a real Greek coffee and a glass of metaxa; a special distilled Greek spirit invented long ago by a silk trader named Spyros Metaxas. The taste of the food, the Greek atmosphere and the sound of Greek music brought back memories from when I was young and the rows of Greek tavernas along the small colorful streets of Santorini in Greece.

To a DJ: “What do you do?” “I’m a musician--I’s a DJ” (ibid) “You’re not a musician, you’re a music thief--you’re a record player player!!!” (Henry Rollins) The term ‘DJ’ has many meanings but as the term disc jockey probably originated from the person who played vinyl records on the radio; one uncomplimentary definition suggested it was “for those on the radio who fill the time between songs with nonsense chatter that is irrelevant or the weather.” Of course there are a myriad of other definitions including Dinner Jacket, Dear John (a break up letter), Don Juan, Dust Jacket, Davey Jones (locker) or even District Judge. The Urban Dictionary goes into other more risqué meanings, some of which we can’t repeat.
In more recent times a DJ has been transformed into a real entertainer. Initially blending recorded music in harmony and adding a scratching effect into songs using two turntables and a mixer at parties, the modern DJ is now a ‘Digital Jockey.’ The days of bumper stickers demanding ‘music from a band, not canned’ are well and truly over. The modern DJ is a skilled manipulator who mixes music from multiple sources and produces a continuous sense of feeling and rhythm and quality sound. No longer from vinyl or Compact Discs but with USB digital storage being a best friend. The distinction between musician and DJ has now become blurred, particularly when the synthesizer, keyboard, drum machine, sequencer and sampler have become the instruments of choice in many musical styles, including on stage. The modern DJ may also make use of such digital means of manipulation in their form of entertainment. Those who claim to have DJ status but only replay tracks without being ‘hands on’ with their own interpretations are regarded with some distain from those who are real performers. For the past 3 months DJ Smiley has been resident DJ at ‘EAST’ Rooftop Bar & Lounge on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. It’s a great combination of sophisticated sounds to match ambience of this new venue on the Hua Hin scene and to accompany the feature cocktails on offer. 14 40 Top Isaan Food (No Bugs) The Isaan equivalent to the better known Tom Yum? Tom Saap literally translates as “Tasty Soup”, Saap in Isan meaning Tasty. And yes it definitely lives up to its name. Sweet, Sour, Salty and Hot. Add savoury and hearty with chunks of pork ribs, mushroom and tomatoes. This delectable pork soup does give Tom Yum a run for its money.
Ant egg salads, street food counters lined with entrails, carts filled with bugs, I understand why visitors to Thailand can be put off by Isan food. Not all of it is appealing. But bravado and beetle munching aside Isan food offers much of the best eating in Thailand. Less celebrated globally but hugely popular locally. Eat Isan food with sticky rice and booze and optional sides of White Cabbage (Pak Gad Khao), Sweet Basil (Horapa), Long Beans (Tua Fak Yao).

Accompanying Galam (cabbage), sliced ginger and fresh chillies add that extra heat and spice (occasionally lime and peanuts). Roll together in a cabbage leaf, pop in your mouth, eat. Amazing. Originating from Laos this fiery minced pork salad is the big favourite in Isan food. While there are variations the most popular Laab comes as a stir-fried minced pork dish with shallots, coriander and mint leaves. Seasoned with the salty of fish sauce and the sour of lime juice. Isaan Sausages (Sai Krok Isaan, ไส้กรอก อีสาน) Named after the Northeastern region in which it originates. This scrumptious sausage is one of my favourite street foods.

The Thai equivalent to the delectable pork Jerky. Ok not overly exciting but does well for a quick nibble. Small bites of pork, marinated in dark soy, oyster sauce, garlic, pepper and palm sugar. Occasionally sprinkled with sesame seeds. The marinated pork is then left in the sun to catch some rays. Dry and glaze. A quick grilling at roadside street food vendors gives an added smokey flavour. End result, a chewy, sticky, nibbletastic pork snack. Served with a sour and spicy chilli dip (Nam Jim Jaew).
The fiery Thai interpretation to the famous Chinese Hot Pot. Jim Jum, originating from Isan, uses a signature Thai infused broth of shallot, Lemongrass, Chilli, Garlic and Sweet Basil. The rest is up to you. Jim Jum allows eaters to pick and prepare their own favourite ingredients. Cooked at hot pots on restaurant tables. Meats, veg, noodles whatever tickles your fancy. Once fully cooked the Jim Jum is served in small soup bowls and mixed with a hot, sour, tangy chilli sauce (Nam Jim). While traditionally prepared in clay pots the modern Jim Jum is now best found in franchised restaurants at most major malls of Thailand.

44 Why You Need to Exercise Your Brain Use It Don’t Lose It! Moving from a stimulating working life and switching off from all mental stimulation can result in a lack of grey matter exercise. You may be taking care your body with physical exercise and adopting a healthy diet, but good cognitive health is essential as we age so we can continue doing activities important to everyday life. Keeping your brain engaged can improve your life at any stage of life but also is a safeguard for the future, reducing the prospects of early dementia and a deterioration in memory, cognitive ability and problem-solving skills. Strengthen Synapses Our brains grow quickly when we’re children and teenagers, but that growth doesn’t slow down as we age. Older brains contain just as much gray matter as young ones. Staying sharp is just a matter of using what you’ve got. Exercising your brain actually creates physical changes that build stronger synapses between neurons (nerve cells). Synapses allow information to pass extremely fast between nerve cells. Just like physical workouts make your muscles grow, mental exercise does the same for your brain. So pump it up! Choose a variety of activities that you enjoy

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a very common disorder. Gastroesophageal refers to the stomach and the esophagus. Reflux refers to the back-flow of acidic or non-acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. There is no known single cause of GERD. It occurs when the esophageal defenses are overwhelmed by stomach contents that reflux into the esophagus. A band of muscles at the junction of the stomach and esophagus called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) normally acts, in conjunction with the diaphragm, as a barrier to prevent reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus. If that barrier is relaxed at inappropriate times or is otherwise compromised, reflux occurs.
GERD is characterized by symptoms and/ or tissue damage that results from repeated or prolonged exposure of the lining of the esophagus to contents from the stomach. If tissue damage is present, the individual is said to have esophagitis or erosive GERD. The presence of symptoms with no evident tissue damage is referred to as non-erosive GERD. Chronic heartburn is the most common symptom of GERD. Acid regurgitation (refluxed material into the mouth) is another common symptom. But numerous less common symptoms other than heartburn may be associated with GERD. These may include:

With a theme on Isaan, guests enjoyed the beautiful and exciting traditional performances which started with Long Drum Parade followed by Muay Thai, Klong Sa Bud Chai and Rum Wong Songkran. The guest of honour was Khun Orasa Arwutkom, the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand, Prachuapkirikhan. The ambience was certainly alive with entertainment from the performances, live music and DJ.
Our first Songkran celebration day now that we have over one hundred students was enormous fun. The students from our Thai club and Drama club informed us of serious messages of Songkran through songs and drama. Then, following a traditional water pouring ceremony the whole school took part in water games. There was smile and laughter all around as the students and teachers join together in high spirits. It was a very memorable day for us all and very fitting end to our busy second term, Julie Wood, Headteaher of HHIS said.

46 Taking A Mazda To The Marina The next phase of the development of the Pranburi Marina is underway. New ownership means there are big plans for the future. There is a Thai Government’s plan to position Thailand as a ‘Marina Hub of ASEAN’ to help stimulate growth for the Thai economy and the tourism sector. So with leadership and commitment this facility and Hua Hin aims to take a place alongside the more established boating and yachting locations of Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi and Kho Samui. Being re-branded as the ‘Racer Marina’ may give one hint of things to come. High powered off-shore racing boats feature in photos on the walls inside the Marina. This includes the record crossing between Miami and Havana of 90 minutes over a distance of around 60 nautical miles; similar to the distance between the shores of Hua Hin and Chonburi.
With the personal involvement of the Swiss owner in this very prominent international marine sport, a future ocean crossing event from our shores may not be too farfetched. Some Changes You Can See and What’s To Come The first priority for the new owners was about getting the facility into shape. Renovations to buildings and essential infrastructure were long overdue. Equipment needed to be updated so that boat owners can now expect a professional standard of boat maintenance and security. Dredging of the water inlet and the removal of silt accumulation was also an early priority. There was also a need to provide ‘creature comforts’ with the opening of bar and restaurant facilities. There are currently around 40 pontoon stations for boats however an expansion to around 120 is planned. There is already an expansive dry berth area with security and lighting, but additional shaded areas are planned with renovations to the surfaces. Attention to the maintenance requirements of the boats is always first priority with Marina Manager Vladimir Yakovleff on site to arrange these essential services. Arrangements for a chandlery (marine supplies and accessories) are
happening but also additional retail spaces to meet the needs of boat owners are a work in progress. Accommodation and facilities for more social, family or business requirements, such as meeting rooms are also underway.
There are many more significant plans on the drawing board. Apart from the notion of power boat racing, Boat Shows and festivals may be seen in the future as ways to increase the marina profile and for marine activities in our region. A visit to the marina will be a very pleasant surprise for any owner or potential boating enthusiast.
Drivers in Thailand understand the need to always be aware of nearby vehicles (especially motorbikes) lurking in a side lane which seem to be oblivious of well signaled turning intentions.

49 Led Zeppelin will face trial in ‘Stairway To Heaven’ Copyright Case
The long-held accusations of plagiarism will finally arrive in court. Led Zeppelin founders Robert Plant and Jimmy Page must face trial in a copyright row over ‘Stairway to Heaven’, a US judge has ruled. In a case that mirrors the ‘Blurred Lines’ legal saga, a jury will be asked to determine if the 1971 guitar shop classic copies its opening notes from a song by the rock band Spirit. The copyright infringement action has been brought by Michael Skidmore, a trustee for late Spirit guitarist Randy Wolfe. Skidmore argues that Led Zep heard Spirit perform the instrumental ‘Taurus’ while the bands toured together in 1968 and 1969, and turned it into the famous descending fourchord progression of ‘Stairway’.
“While it is true that a descending chromatic four-chord progression is a common convention that abounds in the music industry, the similarities here transcend this core structure,” ruled US district judge Gary Klausner. “What remains is a subjective assessment of the ‘concept and feel’ of two works… a task no more suitable for a judge than for a jury.” A jury trial is scheduled for May 10th in Los Angeles. Under US law, Spirit could be entitled to royalties from recent sales of the track should they win the case – and given that ‘Stairway To Heaven’ has been valued at $560m, those earnings are likely to be fairly hefty.
Thai AirAsia to Inaugurate Flights to Vientiane in July
Thai AirAsia (TAA) looks set to start serving Vientiane as the second city in Laos, which until recently was largely off-limits to lowcost carriers (LCCs). TAA will become the first no-frills airline to operate on the Bangkok-Vientiane route when it launches daily flights in July.
Vientiane. “We believe there will be a lot of people who want to fly directly to Vientiane, avoiding hassles, cutting travel time and saving travel costs related to multi-mode transportation,” he said. “We think we can fly them directly with a fare of only 1,500 baht [one-way],” he added.
The Vientiane start-up follows TAA’s successful entry to Luang Prabang. The airline commenced a daily service from Bangkok on March 24th, becoming the first LCC to serve the old royal city.

5 นักร้องชือ่ ดังของเมืองหัวหิน ประเทศไทย เจ้าของรางวัลเดอะวินเนอร์ อีส เข้ารับรางวัลศิลปินเพือ่ สังคมไทยปลอดบุหรี่ บิดามารดาและคณะญาติรว่ มแสดงความ ยินดีทก่ ี รุงเทพมหานครจากการเปิดเผยของ นายโอฬาริก ขุนสิทธิ์ นักร้องชือ่ ดังของ เมืองหัวหิน จ.ประจวบฯ เจ้าของแชมป์ “เดอะวินเนอร์ อีส” แห่งประเทศไทย ทีไ่ ด้ คว้าเงินรางวัล 10 ล้านบาท ว่าเมือ่ ปลายเดือนมีนาคมทีผ่ า่ นมานัน้ ตนเองได้เข้ารับ รางวัล “ศิลปิน-ดารา-สือ่ สารมวลชน ดีเด่น ประจำ�ปี 2559” ร่วมกับนักร้องดารา และสือ่ มวลชน จำ�นวน 28 ท่าน จากทาง ศ.แพทย์หญิง สมศรี เผ่าสวัสดิ์ ประธาน สมาพันธ์เครือข่ายแห่งชาติเพือ่ สังคมไทยปลอดบุหรี่ ณ อาคารเฉลิมพระบารมี 50 ปี แพทย์สมาคมแห่งประเทศไทย กรุงเทพฯ เหตุผลทีท่ างคณะกรรมการและแพทย์สมาคมฯ ให้รางวัลในครัง้ นีน้ น้ั เนือ่ งจากตนเองและคณะศิลปินทัง้ หมดนัน้ เป็นแบบอย่างทีด่ ใี ห้กบั ผูค้ น สังคม ทาง ด้านการดูแลสุขภาพโดยไม่มกี ารใช้ยาเสพติด หรือว่า “บุหรี”่ มาเป็นตัวช่วย ตัวนำ� ในการทำ�กิจกรรมและประกอบอาชีพทางด้านการเป็นศิลปิน เนือ่ งจากสารเสพติด
หรือ “บุหรี”่ นัน้ มันเป็นพิษเป็นภัยแก่เด็กๆเยาวชนและผูค้ นทางด้านสุขภาพ ซึง่ ทาง แพทย์สมาคมฯ นัน้ ก็มกี ารต่อต้านและรณรงค์มาตลอดถึงพิษภัยและเมือ่ ทราบว่า บุคคลสำ�คัญหรือว่าผูน้ �ำ ศิลปินท่านใดไม่มกี ารสูบบุหรี่ แล้วในแต่ละปีทางคณะกรรม การฯ ก็จะมีการมอบถ้วยรางวัลบุคคลดีเด่นให้ ซึง่ รางวัลนีก้ เ็ ป็นเครือ่ งหมายการันตีให้กบั แต่ละคนทางด้านสังคมตนเองนัน้ เป็นเด็ดเยาวชนของเมืองหัวหิน จ.ประจวบฯ อยูก่ บั คุณพ่อภิญโญ-คุณแม่มาลี ขุน สิทธิ์ มา ท่านได้พร่�ำ สอนว่ายาเสพติด “บุหรี”่ นัน้ มันเป็นพิษเป็นภัยให้กบั ตนเองและ ผูค้ นทีอ่ ยูใ่ กล้ชดิ ทางด้านสุขภาพ ซึง่ ตนเองก็ได้รบั ปฏิบตั มิ าตลอดในช่วงของการเป็น
จังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เร่งรวบรวมข้อมูลเครือ่ งมือ ประมงต้องห้ามทุกชนิดในพืน้ ทีก่ อ่ นเสนอกระทรวงเกษตร และสหกรณ์ ผ่อนผันการใช้เครือ่ งมือประมงบางชนิดทีไ่ ม่ ส่งผลต่อทรัพยากรสัตว์น�ำ ้ นายมนูญ ตันติกลุ ประมงจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เปิดเผยว่า จากกรณีทก่ี ลุม่ ชาวประมงพืน้ บ้านในพืน้ ทีจ่ งั หวัด ประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ ได้เคลือ่ นไหวเรียกร้องให้ภาครัฐผ่อนผันการ ใช้เครือ่ งมือประมงบางชนิดทีเ่ ป็นเครือ่ งมือประมงต้องห้าม ตามประกาศกระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ เรือ่ ง กำ�หนดเครือ่ งมือทำ�การประมง วิธกี ารทำ�การประมง และพืน้ ทีท่ �ำ การประมง ทีห่ า้ มใช้ท�ำ การประมงในทีจ่ บั สัตว์น�ำ ้ พ.ศ.2559 โดยให้เหตุผลว่าส่งผลกระทบต่อวิถกี ารทำ�การประมงในพืน้ ทีน่ น้ั ทีป่ ระชุมคณะ กรรมการประมงประจำ�จังหวัด ได้มกี ารหารือเรือ่ งดังกล่าวและมีมติให้ตง้ ั คณะอนุกรรมการเพือ่ พิจารณาข้อเสนอของกลุม่ ชาว ประมงทีไ่ ด้รบั ความเดือดร้อนโดยให้รวบรวมข้อมูลรายละเอียดของเครือ่ งมือประมงต้องห้ามแต่ละชนิดทีป่ จั จุบนั ชาวประมงใช้ ในพืน้ ที่ ก่อนนำ�เรือ่ งเข้าหารือในทีป่ ระชุมคณะกรรมการประมงประจำ�จังหวัดอีกครัง้ ให้ได้ขอ้ สรุป และจะมีการเสนอไปยังกระทรวง เกษตรและสหกรณ์เพือ่ ทำ�การปรับปรุงกระกาศกระทรวงฉบับดังกล่าวต่อไป
นายนพพร วุฒกิ ลุ นายกเทศมนตรีเมืองหัวหิน เป็นประธานการประชุมโครงการสร้างชุมชนเกือ้ กูล เพิม่ พูนน้�ำ ใจ สร้าง วิถไี ทยสามัคคี ณ ห้องประชุมนเรศดำ�ริห์ มี นางสาวไพลิน กองพันธ์ รองนายกเทศมนตรี นางรัมภา จำ�รองราช ผอ.กอง สวัสดิการสังคม และประธานชุมชนทัง้ 39 ชุมชน เข้าร่วมประชุมฯ เพือ่ หารือถึงการดำ�เนินกิจกรรมในโครงการฯ ซึง่ เป็นโครงการ ทีก่ ระทรวงมหาดไทย โดยกรมการปกครอง กรมการพัฒนาชุมชน และกรมส่งเสริมการปกครองส่วนท้องถิน่ ได้ก�ำ หนดขึน้ เพือ่ เสริมสร้างกระบวนการประชารัฐ สร้างความรักความสามัคคี ความเข้มแข็งและจิตสำ�นึกสาธารณะแก่ประชาชนในชุมชน/หมูบ่ า้ น อย่างยัง่ ยืน โดยกำ�หนดให้เทศบาลและองค์การบริหารส่วนตำ�บล ดำ�เนินกิจกรรมในลักษณะเกือ้ กูลแห่งละอย่างน้อย 2 กิจกรรม ได้แก่ 1. ลงแขก 2. ลงคลอง 3. ครัวชุมชน 4. ถนนสวย 5. หน้าบ้าน น่ามอง 6. แยกขยะ เป็นต้น ซึง่ ในทีป่ ระชุมได้มมี ติท่ี จะดำ�เนินกิจกรรม หน้าบ้าน น่ามอง และการแยกขยะ

นางสาวผ่องพรรณ เจียรวิรยิ ะพันธ์ อธิบดีกรมพัฒนาธุรกิจการค้า กระทรวงพาณิชย์ เปิดเผยว่า กรมพัฒนาธุรกิจการ ค้าเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดการประชุมพบปะหารือระหว่างสมาคมค้าส่ง-ปลีกไทยกับสมาคมผูป้ ระกอบการค้าส่งมาเลเซีย (PPM) เพือ่ หารือความร่วมมือระหว่าง 2 สมาคม เพือ่ สร้างโอกาสทางธุรกิจการค้าร่วมกัน รวมทัง้ แลกเปลีย่ นความคิดเห็นด้านการประกอบ ธุรกิจ/กฎหมายระหว่างประเทศทีเ่ กีย่ วข้อง โอกาสความเป็นไปได้ในการสร้างเครือข่ายธุรกิจ รวมถึงการสร้างความสัมพันธ์อนั ดี ระหว่างกัน โดยสมาคมผูป้ ระกอบการค้าส่งมาเลเซียและสมาคมค้าส่ง-ปลีกไทยนำ�สมาชิกแกนนำ�ของสมาคมฯ ฝ่ายละ 20 ราย เข้าร่วมประชุมแสดงความคิดเห็น พร้อมนำ�คณะลงพืน้ ทีศ่ กึ ษาดูงานระบบการค้าส่ง-ปลีกของไทย เพือ่ สำ�รวจความเป็นไป ได้และวางแนวทางการค้าทัง้ 2 ประเทศ คาดว่าผลการประชุมทีไ่ ด้รบั จะสามารถนำ�มากำ�หนดทิศทาง แนวโน้ม และโอกาส ความเป็นไปได้ในการร่วมมือด้านการค้าการลงทุนธุรกิจค้าส่ง-ปลีกของไทยและมาเลเซียในอนาคต ทัง้ นี้ มาเลเซียเป็นคูค่ า้ ทีม่ คี วามสำ�คัญลำ�ดับที่ 4 รองจากจีน ญีป่ นุ่ และสหรัฐอเมริกา มีมลู ค่าการค้าระหว่างกัน ประมาณ 25,000 ล้านดอลลาร์สหรัฐต่อปี หากการประชุมฯ ครัง้ นี้ สำ�เร็จลุลว่ งด้วยดี เชือ่ ว่าจะช่วยสร้างเครือข่ายธุรกิจและ เจรจาธุรกิจร่วมกันทัง้ 2 ประเทศ ได้อย่างเป็นรูปธรรม

นายวิรตั น์ ทำ�นุราศี รองผูว้ า่ ราชการจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เป็นประธานการประชุมเพือ่ เตรียมการจัดการประกวด วงโยธวาทิต ชิงแชมป์ภาคกลาง ประจำ�ปี 2559 ซึง่ ได้ก�ำ หนดการแข่งขันระหว่างวันที่ 26 - 28 พฤษภาคม 2559 ณ บริเวณ สะพานสราญวิถี อำ�เภอเมือง จังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ นายแทนไทร์ พลหาญ นักวิทยาศาสตร์ช�ำ นาญการ ศูนย์ฝนหลวงหัวหิน จังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เปิดเผยว่า จาก การทีศ่ นู ย์ปฏิบตั กิ ารฝนหลวงภาคใต้ ได้มาตัง้ ฐานปฏิบตั กิ ารที่ ศูนย์ฝนหลวงหัวหิน โดยใช้เครือ่ งบินคาราแวน จำ�นวน 3 ลำ� ขึน้ บินโปรยสารเคมีท�ำ ฝนเทียมเพือ่ เพิม่ ปริมาณน้�ำ ในอ่างเก็บ น้�ำ ปราณบุรี และแก่งกระจาน รวมถึงสร้างความชุม่ ชืน้ ให้กบั พืน้ ทีเ่ กษตรกรรมในจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เพชรบุรี ราชบุรี นัน้ ทีผ่ า่ นมาได้ขน้ ึ ทำ�การบินไปแล้วจำ�นวน 5 วัน สามารถ ทำ�ให้ฝนตกได้ 4 วัน แต่ยงั ถือว่ามีปริมาณฝนไม่มาก เกิดฝน
ตกเพียงครัง้ ละประมาณ 30 นาที โดยอุปสรรคสำ�คัญของ การทำ�ฝนเทียมโดยเฉพาะในพืน้ ทีจ่ งั หวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ คือ สภาพภูมปิ ระเทศทีแ่ คบ และมีเทือกเขาตะนาวศรีคอยขวาง กัน้ กลุม่ เมฆ ทำ�ให้เมือ่ กลุม่ เมฆข้ามพรหมแดนจากเมียนมาเข้า มายังประเทศไทยแล้วไม่พฒ ั นาตัว จึงเกิดปริมาณฝนน้อย อย่างไรก็ตาม จะยังคงขึน้ บินปฏิบตั กิ ารต่อเนือ่ งไปจนถึงช่วง เดือนตุลาคมนี้ ซึง่ ประชาชนและเกษตรกรทีป่ ระสบความ เดือดร้อนสามารถร้องขอการทำ�ฝนเทียมได้ทอ่ี าสาสมัคร ฝนหลวงในพืน้ ที่ หรือทีศ่ นู ย์ปฏิบตั กิ ารฝนหลวงภาคใต้

3 สมาคมเจ็ตสกีแห่งประเทศไทย ร่วมกับจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เตรียมจัดการ แข่งขันเจ็ตสกีโปรทัวร์ชงิ แชมป์แห่งประเทศไทยประจำ�ปี 2559 สนามที่ 2 ในเดือน พฤษภาคมนี้ ณ บริเวณชายหาดอ่าวประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ ระหว่างวันที่ 21-22 พฤษภาคม 2559 ทีห่ อ้ งประชุมสิงขร ศาลากลางจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ นายประหยัด นาคเขียว ผูอ้ �ำ นวยการศูนย์การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ เป็นประธานการ ประชุมเตรียมจัดการแข่งขันเจ็ตสกีโปรทัวร์ชงิ แชมป์แห่งประเทศไทยประจำ�ปี 2559 สนามที่ 2 โดยมีผแ้ ู ทนสมาคมเจ็ตสกีแห่งประเทศไทยในพระอุปถัมภ์ ทูลกระหม่อม หญิงอุบลรัตนราชกัญญา สิรวิ ฒ ั นาพรรณวดี นายประมวลวิทย์ พฤศชนะ ผูช้ ว่ ยท่อง เทีย่ วและกีฬาจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ และหน่วยงานทีเ่ กีย่ วข้องร่วมประชุม เตรียม ความพร้อมจัดการแข่งขันซึง่ กำ�หนดจัดขึน้ ในระหว่างวันที่ 21-22 พฤษภาคม 2559 ณ บริเวณชายหาดอ่าวประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ อำ�เภอเมืองจังหวัดประจวบฯ โดยการประชุมในครัง้ นีไ้ ด้มกี ารหารือการเตรียมความพร้อมด้านสถานที่ การ รักษาความปลอดภัย การอำ�นวยความสะดวกด้านการจราจร การพร้อมด้านการแพทย์ และพยาบาล รวมไปถึงการประชาสัมพันธ์ให้ประชาชนได้รบั ทราบ โดยจะมีการจัด แถลงข่าวในวันที่ 22 เมษายน 59 ทีส่ วนน้�ำ วานานาวาหัวหิน และมีการจัดพิธเี ปิด การแข่งขันอย่างเป็นทางการในวันเสาร์ท่ี 21 พฤษภาคม 2559 ผูอ้ �ำ นวยการสำ�นักงาน การกีฬาแห่งประเทศไทยจังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ กล่าวว่า จังหวัดประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์มี ศักยภาพและความพร้อมในด้านต่างๆ มีชายหาดทีส่ วยงามสามารถรองรับการเป็น เจ้าภาพในการจัดรายการแข่งขันเจ็ตสกีโปรทัวร์ชงิ แชมป์แห่งประเทศไทย ได้เป็นอย่าง ดี ซึง่ การจัดการแข่งขันจะมีเพียง 4 สนามต่อปีเท่านัน้ ในชือ่ รายการเจ็ตสกีโปรทัวร์ ซึง่ จะช่วยประชาสัมพันธ์แหล่งท่องเทีย่ วทีส่ วยงามของจังหวัดประจวบให้เป็นทีร่ จ้ ู กั มาก ขึน้ และส่งเสริมด้านการท่องเทีย่ วทำ�ให้เศรษฐกิจในพืน้ ทีค่ กึ คัก

ณ ห้องประชุมพริบพรี ศาลากลางจังหวัดเพชรบุรี พลเอก ธนะศั ก ดิ์ ปฏิ ม าประกร รองนายกรั ฐ มนตรี พร้ อ มด้ ว ย นางกอบกาญจน์ วัฒนวรางกูร รัฐมนตรีวา่ การกระทรวงการท่องเทีย่ ว และกีฬา”รัฐมนตรีวา่ การกระทรวงการท่องเทีย่ วและกีฬา ร่วมประชุม คณะกรรมการพัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ ว ประจำ�เขตพัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ ว ฝัง่ ทะเลตะวันตกครัง้ ที่ 3 / 2559 โดยมี ผูว้ า่ ราชการจังหวัดเพชรบุรี ประจวบคีรขี นั ธ์ ระนอง ตัวแทนจังหวัดชุมพร และหน่วยงานทีเ่ กีย่ วข้อง เข้าร่วมประชุมรายงานสถานการณ์ ปัญหา และอุปสรรคด้านการ ท่องเทีย่ วของเขตพัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ วฝัง่ ทะเลตะวันตก พลเอก ธนะศักดิ์ ปฏิมาประกร รองนายกรัฐมนตรี กล่าวว่า เขตพัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ วฝัง่ ทะเลตะวันตกในรอบ ปีทผ่ ี า่ นมา มีแนวโน้มด้านการท่องเทีย่ วเพิม่ ขึน้ อย่างต่อเนือ่ งทัง้ จำ�นวนนักท่องเทีย่ วและรายได้จากการท่องเทีย่ ว ทัง้ นีป้ ี 2558 มีนกั ท่องเทีย่ วต่างชาติ จำ�นวน 1,622,215 คน และนักท่องเทีย่ วชาวไทย 11,364,091 คน สร้างรายได้ 64,926 ล้านบาท รัฐบาลจึงมีเป้าหมายทีจ่ ะพัฒนาศักยภาพด้านการท่องเทีย่ วในพืน้ ทีด่ ว้ ยการสร้างแหล่งท่องเทีย่ วใหม่ๆ และผลักดันโครงการ สำ�คัญ เพือ่ พัฒนาความเป็นจุดเด่นของแหล่งท่องเทีย่ วในพืน้ ที่ รวมถึงการเชือ่ มโยงการท่องเทีย่ วระหว่างเมืองหลักและเมืองรอง ซึง่ กลไกดังกล่าวจะช่วยผลักดัน ขับเคลือ่ นการทำ�งาน ในการพัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ วให้บรรลุผลสำ�เสร็จ จากนัน้ คณะรองนายกรัฐมนตรี ได้เดินทางลงพืน้ ทีต่ รวจเยีย่ มการดำ�เนินงานด้านการท่องเทีย่ วในจังหวัดเพชรบุรี ที่ โครงการศึกษาวิจยั และพัฒนาสิง่ แวดล้อมแหลมผักเบีย้ อันเนือ่ งมาจากพระราชดำ�ริ ต.แหลมผักเบีย้ อ.บ้านแหลม ซึง่ เป็น ต้นแบบของการจัดการขยะและน้�ำ เสียด้วยวิธี “ธรรมชาติชว่ ยธรรมชาติ” เพือ่ การท่องเทีย่ วอย่างยัง่ ยืน พร้อมร่วมบันทึกเทป รายการเดินหน้าประเทศไทย ณ โครงการศึกษาวิจยั และพัฒนาสิง่ แวดล้อมแหลมผักเบีย้ ฯ ก่อนเดินทางตรวจเยีย่ มชุมชน บ้านถ้�ำ รงค์ ต.ถ้�ำ รงค์ อ.บ้านลาด จ.เพชรบุรี โดยเข้ากราบสักการะหลวงพ่อดำ� และสิง่ ศักดิส์ ทิ ธ์ภายในถ้�ำ จากนัน้ ได้พบปะพูด คุยกับชาวบ้านถ้�ำ รงค์ ทีน่ �ำ สินค้า OTOP ของชุมชนมาจัดแสดง ทัง้ นี้ เพือ่ พัฒนาการท่องเทีย่ วอย่างยัง่ ยืนต่อไป
