Speaking at the Royal Coast Riviera Club in Hua Hin, Khun Korn said he would be in favour of updating and relaxing some visa laws, as well as abolishing others.

“I think the timing for the proposal of the abolition and relaxation of visa laws in general is a good one,” Khun Korn told Hua Hin Today. Khun Korn said that post COVID-19, Thailand should be doing more to attract long term visitors, particularly as other countries have already started relaxing immigration rules and are introducing new policies aimed at attracting more “Iexpats.think the COVID period also illustrated the potential we have for attracting long term visitors,” Khun Korn said. “But more importantly we have seen many of our internation al ‘competitors’ make similar moves towards relaxation of immigration and visa rules - so there are precedents.” Previously, Khun Korn has spoken out in favour of abolishing the 90 day reporting requirement for foreigners in TheThailand.requirement means that foreigners staying in Thai land on Non-Immigrant Visas or Extensions of Stay are required to report their address to the Immigration Bu reau every 90 days. However, Khun Korn said many immigration regulations in Thailand seem to be outdated and that technology could be used to provide better solutions.

The Royal Coast Riviera Club has quickly established itself as a leading voice with the aim of helping to develop the region into a quality tourism and lifestyle destination for the benefit of regional businesses and the broader community (both Thais & Foreigners).

Khun Korn spoke on a wide range of issues related to tourism, business, the economy and sustainability, with seemingly no topic off limits.

In addition he said would also be in favour of elections for provincial governors, as opposed to governors being appointed, as is the case currently.Healso called for educational reform in Thailand, which he said is not happening currently.

“Many of these regulations seem to be out of step with the times, out of step with what technology could do more effectively and less burdensome in its place”.

Khun Korn said that he expects to see changes in relation to Thailand’s immigration rules and regulations.

Khun Korn shared other ideas which he believed would benefit the country economically.

He spoke positively about the Phuket Sandbox and its ‘start up mentality’, and while he admitted it was not a success in terms of the number of tourist arrivals, he said it was a lifeline.

He called for the ‘greenification’ of Thailand, where sustainable practices can be used to help boost the economy.

He said he would be in favour of ‘earmarking’ tax for specific uses, such as using a windfall tax from oil companies for a program which would see solar power rolled out households across Thailand.

Khun said it was his vision for every Thai child throughout the country to have access to schooling of a good standard.

“I think we are likely to be seeing changes as a result of the improving environment for proposals of this kind”. Khun Korn spoke of the need for Thailand to upgrade its logistical network - 98 percent of which is currently road based - with more long term sustainable solutions which would also benefit business.

He also said how the Phuket Sandbox was an example of how local ideas can be much more effective than simply trying to implement policy formulated in Bangkok.

He said the Phuket Sandbox came to fruition due to local people and stakeholders from the business and tourism communities working together and making themselves heard.

Since its founding in Thailand in 2016 with the launch of SOS Bangkok, SOS has provided over 18.5 million meals for over 1,000 communities.

“So for this reason we have to focus on those who need it the most, such as children, the elderly and the disabled”.

FEEDING THE NEEDY IN HUA HIN

The rescue kitchens enable people to receive good quality, nutritious and freshly made food, which otherwise may not be available to them.

From their HQ in Smorprong, the team at SOS Hua Hin, which consists of just three people, have provided food to a staggering 132 communities across the region. They collect food daily from a total of 12 donors from more than 50 locations in Hua Hin, seven days a week.

Khun Love, whose background is working in the hospitality industry, said he is passionate about helping people, which is what led him to his role at SOS. “I just want to help as many people as I possibly can,” Khun Love said. “Eventually, I would like SOS to be able to help all communities in need in Hua Hin and if there is anything I can do to help, I will do it.” As well as overseeing the distribution of the surplus food, Khun Love’s time is also taken up with surveying communities to try and understand who needs what and where the support from SOS is needed the most.Hethen

Khun Love is assisted by Ratima Kulnapan (Mimi), the SOS Community Coordinator in Hua Hin and Chatchawan Tespoom (Tong), the Food Rescue Ambassador. Together they oversee the collection of food from 57 different locations in the town before they distribute it to low income communities.

For the past two years, the Scholars of Sustenance Foundation (SOS) has operated a food charity program which collects surplus food from hotels and other businesses in Hua Hin.

The community leader will then tell the members of the community when SOS will be distributing food.

liaises with the leaders of the different communities in order to organise food deliveries and create a schedule so food can be distributed effectively and efficiently.

Hua Hin Today recently accompanied Khun Love and Khun Mimi as they distributed food to a community in Nong Hiang.

“Our mission is to eliminate food waste and improve food equity”, said Kittisak Azawapokhawat (Love) who in his role as Food Rescue Supervisor, heads up the SOS operation in Hua Hin.

In addition to daily food distribution, SOS also organises rescue kitchens, where fresh food is made from surplus ingredients by community volunteers.

A rescue kitchen recently held in Bo Fai resulted in 200 people receiving freshly cooked food over a period of four hours.

The food, which would otherwise be discarded, is first inspected for quality before being redistributed to people in need living in Hua Hin and the surrounding area.

As well as operating in Hua Hin, SOS, which originated in North Carolina, also helps people in other locations in Thailand, including Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Elsewhere in the region, SOS operates a branch in Bali, Indonesia, while a branch in Manila in the Philippines will open soon.

Food is collected from hotels such as the Marriott, Hilton and Hyatt, as well as from convenience stores and malls every morning before it is quickly redistributed to those people who really need it at the end of each day.

In addition to food donations, which are always needed, SOS welcomes volunteers to help with their efforts both in distributing food and in particular with helping at a rescue kitchen.

It recently announced a partnership with Starbucks Thailand through the new Starbucks FoodShare program. The partnership will see participating stores donate surplus food directly to SOS. If you are a food producer or restauranter in Hua Hin and are interested in donating surplus food or would like to volunteer with SOS Hua Hin, you can contact them below: SOS Hua Hin Tel: +(66)95-902-2189, +(66)948625654 Email: ratima.k@scholarsofsustenance.orgsoshhq@scholarsofsustenance.org, MakeOr a donation to SOS Hua Hin Bank: Kasikorn Bank Account Number: 075-8-51005-0 Account Name: Scholars of Sustenance For more information, visit: rescuelearnsosfoundationthai/www.facebook.com/https://tomoreabouttheirmissions.

Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wutthikul visited Sivana Villas Hua Hin in July to discuss measures aimed at improving the supply of water to the project. Sivana Villas Hua Hin is located on Soi 126, an area where there have been issues with regards to the flow of water to properties.Sivana Villas Hua Hin Managing Director Danny Jhangiani welcomed Mayor Nopporn and his team after coordinating with the Municipality over the issues. The issues stem from the project being located on higher ground which has meant the municipal water supply has not been strong enough to flow to the project. In a bid to resolve the issue, the management team at Sivana Villas Hua Hin informed the mayor they will pay for a booster pump and additional piping to improve the flow of water. However, the mayor needed to give his approval for the installation of the water pump.

During the visit, Mayor Nopporn and the management team from Sivana Villas Hua Hin inspected various locations where the pump could be installed, while at the same time resulting in minimal impact for people living nearby. Following the inspection, Mayor Nopporn said he will coordinate with the Municipality’s plumbing division to add an additional pipe which will improve the supply of water to the project. Mayor Nopporn and his team were later invited for lunch at Sivana Villas’ Indian restaurant, Eat@Sivana.

The project to construct the M8 expressway is expected to begin in 2024, with the route opening to motorists in 2027.

A real time vehicle counting system will be used to gather the very latest traffic conditions.

The M8 expressway is the latest infrastructure project which will improve transportation links into and out of the region.

For several years, the roadworks have caused major disruptions to journeys on what is a notoriously busy stretch of road in and out of Bangkok.Theproject, which will eventually see the road expanded from 10 lanes to 14, is split into two phases and covers a total distance of 24.7 kilometers. The first phase of the project is Bang Khun Thian to Ekkachai, which covers a distance of 8.3 kilometers and is currently 60 percent complete. This phase is scheduled to be completed by June 2023, according to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob.

The Department of Highways (DOH) will be responsible for collecting the fees both manually and automatically. The tolls along the M8 will also be linked to the M-Flow system - Thailand's digi tized toll-gate payment system that was launched in November 2020.

Currently over 98 percent of all visitors to Cha Am and Hua Hin arrive by car.

Flights will be available to and from destina tions within a five to a six-hour radius, such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, and the Middle East.

An increase in flights means that one million passengers will arrive at Hua Hin Airport within three years.

Traffic conditions will be monitored using cameras and video surveillance, while Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be able to display information, recommen dations and warnings to drivers in real time.

The second phase, which covers Ekkachai to Ban Phaeo, covers a distance of 16.4 kilometers and is scheduled for completion by January 2025.

The system consists of a central control room that links commands to various traffic monitoring equipment along the expressway.

In terms of traffic management and road safety, a computer aided system traffic control system will help to manage traffic flow along the route.

In the last few months, I have seen more patients coming for long covid symptoms. After being infected with Covid-19, many recovering patients find that their bodies feel weakened. Some people may constantly feel tired and for getful, while others may have shortness of breath, headaches, and body aches.

In TCM, we often classify long covid as Qi Deficiency Syndrome. Some Chinese herbs boost the Qi, such as Ginseng (Ren Sheng) and Astra galus (Huang Qi). There are also acupuncture and moxibustion treatments that can treat headaches, body aches, or many other symptoms caused by longAscovid.with any chronic condition, getting enough rest, eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of water, and, if possible, gentle exercise are all important ways to help the body recover in the long run.

TCM TREATMENT FOR LONG COVID 19 - HOW ACUPUNCTURE & CHINESE MEDICINE CAN HELP

What is Long Covid? Long covid is defined by ongoing health prob lems caused by COVID-19 after the patient recovers from the initial infections. Up to 15% of those who survive their conditions reported having symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, joint pain, chest pain, loss of smell and taste, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Long covid has been reported to last for months to more than a year. These symptoms can happen to anyone who has had COVID-19, even if the illness was mild or if they had no initial symptoms. Besides these symptoms, patients with a severe disease with COVID-19 can experience multiorgan effects, including the nervous system, lung, heart, digestive tract, and musculoskeletal system.

The aim of the RCR Club, which is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, is to be a leading voice for the business and wider community not only in Hua Hin but also in Phetchaburi, Cha Am and Pra chuap Khiri Khan.

The vision of the RCR Club is “that the Royal Coast region of Thailand is developed and recognised as a unique and most desirable destination for quality tourism, lifestyles and culture.”

“It’s a natural balance of the different types of photos I like to take,” Patrick added. In addition to showcasing Patrick’s photographs, the exhibition has another interesting and unique aspect to it.

Speaking following Khun Korn’s appearance at the RCR Club, Co-Founder and President Guido Campigotto said “Our club has grown from strength to strength and our voice is beginning to be heard locally and as far as where it needs to be.”

“These will be sixteen of my favorite photos, out of a few thousand that I have taken,” Patrick told Hua Hin Today.

Patrick said he spent several months whittling down hundreds of photos until he finally chose the sixteen that are to be featured in the exhibition.

“It’s really nice to see Khun Korn joining our meeting and recognizing that the provinces need more power and small clubs like us can make the difference in making the necessary changes to help all size businesses as well as the wider communi ties,” Guido Membershipadded.tothe RCR Club is open to owners, leaders and stakeholders from the business com munity in the region, as well as to people form the wider community in general.

He spoke at length about his opinions on the various policies Thailand should implement at a national level with regards to digitalisation, sus tainability, tourism and commerce.

“I learnt to dive and the camera became my instrument”, Patrick said. He rekindled his passion for photography by tak ing underwater photographs as part of his journey into receiving his PADI diving certification. Today he is best known for his photos of Hua Hin and the surrounding area. He also produces a calendar of his photographs of Hua Hin, some of the proceeds of which are donated to different charities each year. Details of Patrick’s 2023 calendar are set to be announced in the coming months.

Patrick, who first became interested in photography at sixteen years old, shares many of his photographs on the Foto’s by Patrick Jacobs Facebook page, which now has more than 4,700 followers. Growing up near the Zolder race track in Belgium and with a love of Formula 1, he would photograph cars and motor racing events as a teenager.

The RCR Club is the first time the business community in the region has had some form of representation, which gives business leaders and stakeholders an opportunity to be heard in relation to regional development.

He also voiced his support for regional govern ance and a need for greater autonomy for local and provincial governments in Thailand.

Each of the images, most of which were taken in Hua Hin, will be printed on aluminum metal panels which will offer a fascinating perspective and striking high gloss quality. There are just five prints of each image, avail able in two different sizes: original edition (11X17 or 27.9X43.2 cm) and collector edition (20X30 or 50.8X76.2 cm). “I wanted to create something really special and with the images being printed on aluminum, it makes the colours become so vibrant, crisp and clear”, Pat rick said.

Khun Korn’s appearance at the August meet

Korn Chatikavanij, leader of the Kla Party, and who was Thailand’s finance minister between 2008 to 2011, said that joining groups such as the Royal Coast Riviera Club (RCR Club) can help bring about “positive developments” for Hua Hin and the wider region. Khun Korn was guest speaker at the August meeting of the RCR Club, which was held at Centara Grand Beach Resort Hua Hin on Aug 19.

Khun Korn spoke on a wide range of topics as well as sharing his vision for Thailand’s future in the wake of COVID-19.

The Khao Soi from Wan Phen’s had a ‘meatier’ more intense flavour, despite being a little lighter in consistency compared to the versions we tried. It also had the addition of coconut milk poured on top which was not present in the other versions. The portion was actually a little smaller in size but still more than enough for lunch time.

The website described Khao soi as “a sig nature dish of Northern Thailand”, which is “a delicious coconut soup in which numerous regional influences were combined to create a truly spectacular dish. The base of the soup is a slightly spicy broth which combines coconut milk and red curry paste”.

“That’s why we are able to get quite authentic and traditional versions of Khao Soi here, despite it being a northern Thai dish, which isn’t necessarily the case in other areas of Thailand,” Leigh explained.

“Even though the dish originated in the north of the country, it is still not totally clear how and when this famous noodle soup was created. Khao Soi restaurants in Hua Hin Despite being a traditional dish of the north, Hua Hin has more than its fair share of places serving up excellent Khao Soi. Rather than try to find the ‘best’ Khao Soi in Hua Hin, the aim of the tour was to highlight the different varieties of Khao Soi available locally.

The Khao Soi at Chadakaew was again noticeably different from the other versions we tried.

In terms of flavour, while it isn’t an overly spicy dish anyway, the Khao Soi from At Phrae is perhaps made with a foreign palette in mind. The restaurant, which is located almost opposite Wat Khao Lan Thom, served up a delicious bowl of Khao Soi. We tried the chicken version (60 baht) but they also sell beef and pork versions (both 70 baht). Most notable was the size of the portion, which was really generous.

The soft opening of the APHEED Centre took place on August 26, 2022, during the 12th APEC High-level Meeting on Health and Economics (APEC Health Week), with Ministers of Health from ASEAN countries attending.

"The fact that Thailand is the location of the ACPHEED Center reflects international confidence in the Thai public health system, particularly in relation to the management of COVID-19 situation, which is globally recognised,” said Acting Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri.

Thailand has been chosen as the new Asean Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED).

The centre will focus on three key areas: surveillance or detection, response and risk management.

The working principle of ACPHEED is generally similar to that of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and aims to be a solution to overcome the problems of various health protocols in each ASEAN member country.

Meanwhile, ASEAN health ministers have also discussed a draft agree ment concerning the issuance of health certificates for people traveling from one ASEAN country to another, even as these nations must still contend with COVID-19.

Mr. Anucha added.

ACPHEED will serve as a centre of excellence and regional hub to strengthen Asean's capabilities to handle public health emergencies and emerging diseases. Its role will see collaboration between ASEAN states to deal with extraor dinary events (KLB) and pandemics in the future.

The centre is located in the Bangrak Medical Center Building, Department of Disease Control, on Sathorn Road Bangkok.

After being officially welcomed and honoured by former deputy prime minister His Excellency Suwat Liptapanlop at Inter Continental Hua Hin Resort, Engelbert enjoyed contemporary Thai cuisine at Jaras Hua Hin, savouring the restaurant’s famed signature dishes including Hor Mok Khun Ya, a traditional recipe created by Khun Ya Jaraspim Liptapanlop. The day before the concert, it was on to BluPort Mall directly adjacent InterContinental Hua Hin Resort and more Thai cultural experiences. At The Legend Arena, Engelbert witnessed a thrilling performance of Muay Thai, the ancient and world-renowned Thai martial art. ISSUE 242 • SEPTEMBER 202228

Engelbert Humperdinck is a pop music legend. He’s known worldwide for songs such as ‘Release Me (And Let Me Love Again)’ and several other smash hits. To date the British vocalist has sold upwards of 150 million records.Tohis many accomplishments, he now adds another – his first visit to Hua Hin. Ahead of a much-anticipated beachside performance on 20 August – “The Legendary Engelbert Humperdinck in Hua Hin” at InterContinental Hua Hin Resort – the singer arrived in Thailand on 18 August and, always the consummate professional, he immediately headed to Hua Hin to prepare for the show. That didn’t mean, however, there wasn’t time for a typically warm Thai welcome and chance to experience the many delights of Hua Hin.

ENGELBERT HUMPERDINCK MAKES HUA HIN EVEN MORE ROMANTIC WITH SEASIDE CONCERT AT INTERCONTINENTAL HUA HIN RESORT — AND GETS CHARMED HIMSELF DURING FIRST-EVER VISIT TO CITY Hot such as Please Release Me, The Last Waltz Lady Of The Night, Misty Blues, After The Loving, Spanish Eyes, Quando Quando Quando, and others, as well as a fine dining 4 course and beverages.Engelbert Humperdinck has said that he returned to Thailand this time to perform at the InterContinental Hotel Hua Hin Resort in a concert titled “The Legendary Engelbert Humperdinck in Hua Hin.” I am overjoyed to return to Thailand. This time, a lot has changed since my last visit, and I’ve seen beautiful architecture and design, including buildings and houses, especially in Hua Hin, which has a beautiful sandy beach, people are extremely nice,as well as well-known and delicious Thai dishes such as Hor Mok Khun Ya, a recipe from Jaratpim Liptapan; the flavour is hot but tasty.

“I didn’t want the restaurant to be just another restaurant and I thought a restaurant around the speciality of salmon could do well,” Waree, who is a self confessed foodie but who had no prior experience running a restaurant business, explained.“Ibegan planning about the restaurant in mid to late 2020 and it took about 6-9 months of research, learning and perfecting the recipes before I actually opened the restaurant.

The concept around Salmon House 102, which is located on Soi 102, is high quality cold smoked and cured salmon and fish. But just two weeks after opening, another COVID-19 wave hit and the restaurant was unable to open for dine in customers.

ISSUE 242 • SEPTEMBER 202230

In March 2021, Waree took the gutsy move to open her restaurant and with that Salmon House 102 - Hua Hin’s first and only specialty salmon restaurant - was born.

“We are curing and smoking everything ourselves by hand, using a mixture of hickory, cherry and apple wood. It’s a long process but it helps to get the best “Actually, flavour.onour Facebook page, there is a lot of information about the smoking process, so people can read about it there”, Waree added.

Waree said that with the addition of Foodpanda and Grab, she quickly needed to ensure she had sufficient stock and understand how to manage inventory more effectively.

“It was a big learning curve and a challenge, but we got through it”, Waree said. Today, Salmon House has expanded its menu to include a wide range of offerings such as smoked salmon, gravlax, salmon rolls, sashimi, spicy salmon salad, sandwiches, bagels and pasta. “We use Pacific salmon (Coho) which is low in fat and high quality. This helps us to create a really good product”, Waree said.

In addition, the hot smoked mackerel and salmon mousse are also popular. “We also get requests for some special items such as pasture raised New Zealand rib eye and pork tomahawk which we can smoke but you need to order in advance, normally a couple of days before”.Waree says she now has plans to try and expand her business by offering wholesale options to restaurants, as well as bringing other outlets on board as resellers. Salmon House 102 is located on Soi 102, you can find more information at house102/www.facebook.com/salmon-https://

SALMON HOUSE 102: AGAINST ALL ODDS, A SALMON RESTAURANT IS MAKING A SPLASH IN HUA HIN Human Beliefs

Like many restaurants, Waree quickly turned to food delivery apps such as Foodpanda and Grab as a way to generate custom, as well as creating an ‘in-restaurant’ shop. And it worked, orders began to come in once more but that too generated its own problem.

The salmon is available as cold smoked, but also in various different cures such as gravlax, citrus fruits, lox and beetroot & coriander.

Then it was decision time.Sensing there could be an opportunity in her found ‘business’, Waree had ambitions to take her salmon smoking to the next “Ilevel.started to smoke salmon at home and I could sell it to friends and family and to people on Facebook”, Waree told Hua Hin “ButToday.Ihadno footfall. I thought that because the salmon seemed to be quite popular, maybe I could open a restaurant.

COVID-19 devastated many businesses but also created new opportunities for those who were brave enough to start up during the pandemic. Against all odds, one business in Hua Hin not only survived the lockdowns and various regulations, but has gone on to flourish as life has started to return to some form of normality. After she began smoking salmon at her home in Hua Hin, 37 year old Waree Sriton had a decision to make. What began as part hobby and part means of generating some additional income, Waree started smoking salmon for friends and family. But fairly quickly and entirely by word of mouth, more people kept asking to try Waree’s smoked salmon. She then set up a Facebook page, which gave her a platform to promote her salmon and orders started to roll in.

“We have quite a big mix of customers, all different people. There are a lot of foreigners coming to eat in the restaurant, others just buy the smoked salmon to take home,” Waree said. “Thai customers mostly order on Foodpanda or Grab, they like the spicy salmon salad and the sashimi,” Waree added.

The early momentum Waree had generated at Salmon House 102 had been completely dashed.

Some of the most popular dishes on the menu at Salmon House 102 include salmon steak with squid ink pasta and cherry tomatoes, cold smoked salmon salad with shallots, apple and cucumber and Ravioli filled with smoked salmon and spinach. The white wine poached salmon and cubed cucumber is also popular.

“There’s been an increase in people’s awareness within the past two years around their health and how to improve their wellbeing and lifestyle, which was prominent at this event that covered everything from organic farming, gut health and alternative medicine. A holistic approach to a healthy lifestyle.”

During the event you will have the opportunity to try some medical massage, hear more about organic soap making, organic farming, exotic ways from the

Le Jardin Hua Hin, Soi 90 17 Sept, 11:00 - 18:00 Free entry HOT support the wonderful people behind these businesses that have a conscious mindset and bring their brand forward,” Dina explained. The idea was welcomed among the local community and within a short time the list of vendors was filled to the maximum number of participants.Whenmentioning the idea to Carl Parker, the owner of Le Jardin, which is located on soi 90, he was more than happy to offer the restaurant as a venue. With its unique, rustic and harmonious atmosphere, nestled in the backstreets of soi 94, this would be the perfect place to host the event.

“I wanted to involve local businesses but had to be selective in matching the theme of a conscious lifestyle or it wouldn’t make much sense otherwise. I’m so grateful for all our sponsors and media partners, which have been generous to dedicate either funding or time so this event could become a reality. And that is basically what this is all about - us as a community, helping and contributing to a healthy and conscious lifestyle.”“I’m sure that the residents and the tourists will find the curiosity to visit the event and be as supportive as everyone involved. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for.”

On September 17 a tasting menu and conscious lifestyle event will be held at the centrally located French-inspired culinary restaurant, Le Jardin. Helping to showcase a number of local Hua Hin vendors and businesses, the theme of the event will be centered around health, wellness and sustainability. “I got the idea when attending a huge global wellness event hosted in Bangkok”, said event organiser, Dina from SoHeartMe.
