Family Room/Lounge Space
Two Concepts & General Recommendations
Option 1: Modern Oatmeal
The couch can either be a leather couch or your existing white/cream colored one. If you choose leather, you have more options for coffee tables (metal, wood, upholstered linen, brass, etc.). If you choose the white linen couch, I definitely recommend something with leather or wood to make it contrast and add an element of depth. In this scenario, your cowhide ottoman clashes too much texturally and color-wise with the Flor tiles. I believe the existing gray chair should work in the space, too (depends on the finishes chosen for couch/coffee table/wall) The scale is good, though.
Coffee table depends on couch (see note above).
Walls can remain the white they are now or painted a gray tone. If you choose gray, make the built-in system white. If you choose white walls, make the built-in system a lacquered gray or stained a darker wood. Add brass hardware.
In this scenario, I recommend keeping your existing Flor tiles, but layering it with a textural rug.
Art could be a series of prints centered over a long bench on the right wall (pillows on the bench, books stacked, etc.) Similar concept as right picture (in addition to some by the left wall and built-in). If you choose a wood coffee table, choose an upholstered bench.
Option 2: Moody Blues
Your couch can remain the cream-ish white if you’d like (if so add a bunch of navy/velvet pillows). If you choose to change it up, I recommend a velvet blue. This will play well with the cowhide ottoman and make it feel cozy.
In this scenario, walls can remain white or be painted a darker gray color. If you keep the walls, make the built-in a darker wood stain or paint them blue.
Art concept would remain as in the first scenario, just the content of the art pieces would change based on the color scheme. Leather should be added via a medium-scale chair in addition to brass accents.
For this scheme to work, the floor would need to change. A simple white laminate, wood, or cork would do. To make it feel classic/cozy, layer a flat, plain woven rug under a traditional pattern. Or to be really moody, use an over-dyed blue rug.
