Above, Deb Abraham of the Hair Gallery in Bad Axe is the No. 1 stylist. “I decided I wanted to be a barber when I was 10 or 11 years old,” stated Abraham, who went to the Flint Institute of Barbering when she was 24 years old. “I came back to Bad Axe and worked three years at Designs Unlimited,” she stated. “After that, I opened my own salon, Deb-N-Hair. (I) loved it, but thought I was getting old because I was 40. I sold my equipment and went to work with Megan and Chellie at the Hair Gallery. I’ve been working (here) for 22 years. I still love it, and continue to go to speciality class for color, highlighting, and other specialty class.” She said she has met the best people with her job, and has made many good friends. “I am truly blessed,” she added. In the stylist category, Erica McDonald of the Cutting Connection and Lori Guigar of Designs Unlimited tied for No. 2, and Tammy Kozkay of the Cutting Connection and Linda Williams of Sheer Madness tied for No. 3.

Sturm said one the best sellers from the grill is a dish called ‘burnt ends.’ The ends are the fatty part of a beef briquette, and they are charred until burnt, then served with a homemade sauce. The ends are most often served as an appetizer. In the best chef/cook category, Pam Roth from The Farm is No. 2, and Shelley Miller from Shelley’s is No. 3.
