S
ince its establishment in 1996, the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has been committed to empowering the UAE visual arts sector. In 2010, the launch of The Nationals’ Gallery opened a new and exciting chapter in the ongoing development of the country’s visual arts sector. Artists such as Ebtisam Abdul Aziz, Khalil Abdul Wahid, Sumayyah Al Suwaidi and Jalal Luqman, to name but a few, generously lent their support to this nationwide initiative which was announced during the second edition of Abu Dhabi Art.
Since its launch, The Nationals’ Gallery has reached out to more than 80 Emirati artists across the UAE. Since then, The Nationals’ Gallery has reached out to more than 80 Emirati artists from across the UAE, ranging from photographers and painters to sculptors and mixed-media artists. Over the last 2 years, it has held over 30 in-depth consultations with established and emerging artists; advising them on a variety of
areas, from portfolio development to career progression and further studies. In addition, it has sourced 36 prospects, including exhibiting opportunities, private commissions and purchases, as well as other projects. ADMAF also advocates awareness and understanding of the national visual arts sector among the next generation. Through its yearround Art Education programme, it is creating opportunities for UAE artists to engage with schools and universities, and in doing so, expand their skillset. (Continued on page 2)
