Write with an Illustrator: Kieran Rynhart Tuesday 5 November, 6:30pm-8pm War Memorial Library Find out about the process of working on a book with an illustrator. Be inspired by Kieran’s projected illustrations to write something new! Kieran Rynhart is an artist and illustrator based in Lower Hutt. He illustrated If I Was a Banana, written by Alexandra Tylee and published by Gecko Press, which was a finalist for the 2017 NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults in the ‘Russell Clark Award for Illustration’ category. Kieran has illustrated Seagull Seagull; a collection of James K. Baxter’s poems for children, which will be published by Gecko Press in March 2020. Find Kieran online at www.kieranrynhart.com

Meet the Creator: Kimberly Andrews Monday 11 November, 3:30pm-4:30pm Eastbourne Library Learn about the process of writing and illustrating children’s books with local Eastbourne author and illustrator Kimberly Andrews. Be inspired to write your own picture book! Kimberly is the author and illustrator of Puffin the Architect which won the 2019 Russell Clark Award for Illustration at the NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults, and recently illustrated a new edition of Song of the River by Joy Cowley. Write with an Author: James T. Guthrie Thursday 14 November, 6:30pm-8pm War Memorial Library Get inspired and write with author James T. Guthrie. Ask James about his journey to publication, or get feedback on your work-in-progress. James Guthrie’s debut children’s novel Bullseye Bella won the 2018 Tom Fitzgibbon Award and was short-listed for best first book at the 2019 NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. Catherine’s six novels have all been number 1 New Zealand bestsellers. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters (IIML) and is on the boards of Verb Wellington and the Book Awards Trust. She has also recently been appointed the IIML and Creative New Zealand Writer in Residence for 2020! Catherine reviews for the NZ Listener, and is a regular guest on RNZ.
