Heritage Month Hutt Valley’s role in NZ popular music from the 50s to 80s 12 September, 6:30pm War Memorial Library Chris Bourke, an experienced journalist and writer with a strong interest in music and music history, will talk us through the Hutt Valley’s role in popular music.
Lower Hutt Women in WWI 13 September, 1pm Eastbourne Library Join Jeffrey Russell to follow the stories of three women from Lower Hutt (the two Bell sisters and Marie Werder), concentrating on their lives overseas during WWI.
Ivor Montagu: Pioneer of Silent Cinema 17 September, 1:30pm Walter Nash Centre Ivor Montagu was an English aristocrat, a rebel, and, in the words of film producer Michael Balcon, "one of the first real intellectual artists of the cinema". Hear from Dr Russell Campbell about this fascinating film-maker followed by an excerpt from the film Blue Bottles.
180th anniversary of the Arrival of the Tory 20 September, 11am Petone Settlers Museum The first New Zealand Company ship, the Tory, arrived in Wellington on 20 September 1839. On board were representatives of the New Zealand Company, sent to prepare the way for the settlements that became Lower Hutt and Wellington. Find out more about the Tory on its anniversary with our Heritage Specialist, Clark Stiles!
A History of Stokes Valley 21 September, 1pm Koraunui Community Hub Our Heritage Specialist, Clark Stiles, will take you through the history of this suburb using the timeline installed in the Hub.

It was an interesting time - the end of the Cold War, governments toppling, and locally Wainuiomata became part of Hutt City. Wainuiomata Historical Society President, Gavin Wallace, will share his living memories of the momentous year!
