September means... Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori | Māori Language Week! Baby Bounce and Pre-School Storytime sessions at all of our libraries will involve bilingual stories, songs and rhymes during 14–20 September. We will have Hutt City Libraries' very own Māori language game, KupuTupu, available in our libraries, as well as the chance to play Mū Tōrere and other ngā tākaro Māori.

Vaiaso Ote 'Gana Tuvalu | Tuvalu Language Week (27 September–3 October)

Keep an eye out on social media and at your local library for displays, activities and materials exploring the Tongan and Tuvaluan languages.

New Zealand Sign Language Week 21-27 September Storytime: Sign Language Wainuiomata Library, Tuesday 22 September, 10.30am Eastbourne Library, Wednesday 23 September, 10am Help us celebrate New Zealand Sign Language Week! Bring along your tamariki for this special story time. For ages 2+ PLUS: Look out for information about free NZ Sign Language Taster Classes for adults taking place towards the end of the month!

Wellington Brick Show 26–27 September

Win Wellington Brick Show tickets! We have one family pass to give away from each of our libraries. Choose a minifigure and theme, and build a mini LEGO© world around them! We'll be looking to host some workshops and special Bricks & Pieces sessions to help you with your competition entries. There may even be some special guests joining in! War Memorial Library Wednesday 16 September, 6pm An opportunity to meet the candidates and hear the parties’ platforms. It is also a chance to discuss local and national issues, especially those concerning local and Pasifika communities.


Author Talk - Vivienne Lingard

Bright Brains on Wings

Vivienne describes the origins of The (almost) true story of a man called Jack; from a brief discussion with her daughter, to the development of a narrative about her father and family in the Hutt Valley through the 1950s and 60s.

Join Dr Elodie Urlacher from the Environmental Protection Authority and discover the impact of bee research on our understanding of brains and neuroscience.

"My father died not knowing his grandchildren. I wanted them to know he was the most entrepreneurial, artistic, funny, hard-working man, who loved life. He developed his own book stalls and ran a book shop and a travelling library service. In essence, a character, and why I decided to make him one in his own story."
