TSUNAMI RISKS - WHAT’S THE RUSH?

PARTICULATES AND POLLUTERS

Dr William Power

Dr Perry Davy

Tsunamis are an ever present threat to coastal New Zealand. What are the implications for Petone and the inner harbour area?

Harmful air particulates are a leading cause of respiratory disease, and in the Hutt Valley, incidences of poor air quality are evident in some suburbs like Wainuiomata due to high woodburner use in winter.

Dr William Power will discuss the areas of high risk around the Hutt and Wellington regions and discuss initiatives to protect local communities and raise awareness about the danger that tsunamis present. War Memorial Library Thursday 4 May, 6pm Part of the GNS Science information series Planning for Our Future: The Science We Need to Know.

STEPPING UP COMPUTER CLASSES Our always popular computer classes run with the 2020 Trust are back for term 2. Classes are for Hutt City residents with basic, or no computer skills and are offered at Naenae, Petone, Stokes Valley, Taita, Wainuiomata, and War Memorial Libraries. Registrations for term 2 are now open and are essential. Register online at library.huttcity.govt.nz, phone 04 570 6633 or visit your local library.

Improved council initiatives are decreasing the incidence of particulate exceedances. But what about people who persist in burning treated timber causing harmful toxins in the air? What about other worrying sources of air particulates around the Hutt Valley? War Memorial Library Thursday 18 May, 6pm Part of the GNS Science information series Planning for Our Future: The Science We Need to Know.
