LEGO LEGENDS Our Lego sessions have proven so popular we’re adding more in 2017! Kids can now make amazing Lego creations and become Lego Legends at five of our libraries. Lego Legends is limited to ages 5+ due to safety requirements. STEPPING UP COMPUTER CLASSES Our Stepping UP computer classes run with the 2020 Trust are back again for 2017!

Stepping Up Computer Classes run at the following locations:

Classes are for Hutt City residents with basic, or no computer skills.

War Memorial Library Mondays, 1pm-3pm

Term 1 classes include Photo Editing Basics, Google and the Internet, Trade Me, Home Finances, Introduction to Social Media and more!

Taita Library Tuesdays, 12noon-2pm

Registrations for term 1 are now open and are essential. Classes begin Tuesday 7 February. Register at your local library, by phoning 570 6633 or visit library.huttcity.govt.nz.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING SERIES

Bring your lunch and questions to these free info sessions run by Community Law Wellington and Hutt Valley.

Sustainable Gardening sessions are run by Hutt City Council Sustainability Officer, Natalie Hormann.

Employment Rights, Employment Wrongs Are you having problems at work? Wondering what your rights are? Get a quick run through of common issues that arise in the workplace.

Composting and Worm Farming Do you want a beautiful, lush garden? Learn how to build and maintain your own compost bin, how to make quality fertilizer to feed your garden, and about other composting options such as worm farming.

Petone Library Thursday 9 February, 12.30pm-1.30pm Will You, Won’t You? Learning the Basics of Wills Learn what happens if a family member dies without a will and how to create a will. Can you cut a family member out of the will? What about Living Wills?

War Memorial Library Saturday 11 February, 10.30-11.30am Starting Your Garden Want to start a garden but not sure where to begin? Come and learn the basics of gardening. Great for beginners, bring your gardening questions.

All Hutt City Libraries and Clubhouses will be closed on Monday 6 February for Waitangi Day.

Join the Lower Hutt Citizens Advice Bureau for a session on what is needed to obtain employment in New Zealand.

BLIND DATE WITH A BOOK Looking for romance, some mystery or maybe just after something a bit different? Throughout February two of our libraries will have a selection of books wrapped up in brown paper waiting for a daring reader to take them home. You can have a blind date with a book at Naenae Library and Stokes Valley Library.

BOOK LAUNCH: THE LITTLE CLOUD Join us for the launch of The Little Cloud by Beverly Burch & Elspeth Nicol. Originally written and illustrated in 1959 by two kindergarten teachers it’s the story of a little cloud in Wellington who goes off on an adventure traversing the North Island. NEW eRESOURCES FOR CHILDREN The library has added two excellent new eResources for children. Go to library.huttcity.govt.nz/eresources to get started. All you need is a library card and password to access all our eResources. If you need help getting started have a chat to staff at your local library. These eResources are web based and accessible on desktop computers, laptops, and tablets. 10monkeys Maths World 10monkeys Maths World offers high quality maths learning content in a fun and motivating way. Games and activities are designed especially for primary school students and early learners. TumbleBookLibrary TumbleBookLibrary is an online collection of eBooks for children. They are a great way to encourage techsavvy kids to enjoy reading! There are over 250 animated talking picture books as well as read-along chapter books, non-fiction books, graphic novels and exciting games and puzzles.
