If you ever find yourself in Bridgnorth and in need of a hearty breakfast, it may be worth your while to head off the high street and take a stroll down the far end of Whitburn Street. Just past Sainsbury’s is a quite unassuming little cafe with a grey door. Butlers, famous for its unicorn milkshakes and great locally sourced coffee, blink and you’ll miss it. Butlers are dog friendly, they offer a wide range of gluten, dairy free and vegan options, plus they make all their own cakes and have fabulous an outdoor seating area.

One clear and frosty December morning I was lucky enough to find myself in the vicinity with a colleague, so thought we may as well give it a try. As I pushed open the door I was greeted by the aroma of freshly ground coffee along with the comforting hum of voices and clatter of coffee cups. The interior offered up a mix of recycled timber and a Welsh dresser adorned with a mismatch of quaint teapots. Thick cut rashers of home cured bacon sizzled on the griddle reminding me how hungry I was.

There was quite a selection of drinks to choose from; speciality teas and coffees, to single estate chocolate melts and fresh milkshakes. As I felt it was a little cold for milkshakes a decided to try a latte whereas my colleague Luke plumped for a rich and creamy hot chocolate melt. I must say I found my coffee to have a deliciously bold, fresh ground taste but was beautifully smooth with it. All in all the drinks were a welcome treat on such a cold morning while we patiently waited for our breakfast to arrive. The staff bustled round chatting to customers and keeping things running smoothly. The atmosphere was friendly and

Butler Review_Double Page Editorial 06/12/2017 09:12 Page 2

homely. On a table across the room a grandparent shared a milkshake with a youngster over a game of snakes and ladders. Just one of the many board games available for customers to enjoy. A businessman sat in the corner tapped away industriously on his laptop taking advantage of the free superfast broadband.

I had chosen a vegan breakfast partly due to curiosity and my colleague a sausage, egg and hash brown muffin with cheese. They both came well presented and piping hot. The sausage and egg muffin was very good; the sausage was perfectly cooked and tastier than any run of the mill supermarket sausage could ever hope to be. My vegan option was a pleasant surprise, very tasty and just as satisfying as a regular breakfast. The bacon and sausages are supplied fresh from the family

butchers based in Willenhall, which is run by Emma’s brother and has been in the family for over 105 years!

We may have missed out on milkshakes due to frosty weather but the cakes were another matter altogether. We had a Chocolate Nutella and Ferrero Rocher Brownie and a Caramel sponge cake – sharing them both as we couldn’t choose who would get which. The caramel cake was soft and crumbly with creamy frosting – lovely, but the brownie was on a whole new level – moist and gooey, it literally melted in your mouth – out of this world! All said and done Butler’s seems to have something for everyone from fresh ice cream shakes and fabulous homemade cakes to hearty breakfasts and tasty toasties. Emphasis is on quality and taste, nothing is too much trouble even if its not on the menu. Emma is always there to help and advise on any dietary requirements you may have and recently graduated from Worcester University with a first class degree in human nutrition. A great place for all the family to enjoy.

“The Ultimate Indian Food Destination”

With snow on its way, what better way to get warmed up then visiting a local fusion Indian restaurant Kashmir Café, situated conveniently at the bottom of madeley high street. My colleague Luke and I were excited to try this well talked about Indian. On arrival the building was brightly lit and inviting, we were greeted with a warm welcome by Naveed and team, this 46 seat restaurant, really did not disappoint. Walking into the the main reception it felt very festive with a beautiful tree, decor, lovely music an gorgeous aroma of food in the air.

Kashmir Café is a family run fusion Indian restaurant. The Restaurant is in The Former Royal Oak pub, a grade II listed building in the heart of Madeley high street. Opened in 2010, Kashmir café has built a reputation for some of the finest dishes in Shropshire, coupled with fantastic service, warmth and friendliness. All the food is freshly prepared using the finest ingredients with little or no artificial

colouring making their dishes a pleasurable and healthy experience. They offer an exceptional dining in experience as well as a delivey and collection service. We were seated at a lovely table set ready for our dining experience with complimentary bottled water. You can even bring your own alcohol here, so we bought along a bottle of Shiraz to accompany our meal. The restaurant was filling up very fast with hungry diners escaping the cold. This restaurant is extremely family orientated and deemed to have very many regular locals dining.

We opted for popadoms and dip to eat whilst we gazed over the extensive mouthwatering menu. The dips were mango chutney, onion salad and a special handmade dip that was infused with chilli and ginger. A fantastic combination to warm your insides. Our choice was made, so many delectable

Kashmir Review_Double Page Editorial 12/12/2017 1:01 PM Page 2

delights to choose from ranging from traditional Indian dishes such as Balti to chefs special signature dishes. Luke opted for Chicken Chat Purée to start (Spicy and tangy chicken with chefs special spices, served with fried bread). Myself - Sizzling King Prawns Lightly spiced, fried then cooked in a sweet and sour sauce). It wasn’t long before our starters arrived. Luke’s chicken was tender and juicy the combination of the crunchiness with the fried bread, and salad was gorgeous. My prawns were light, tasty and the sauce was a fantastic mixture of sweet and sour flavours. Fantastic food and service so far. Onto the mains. Luke Opted for Garlic chilli chicken (A popular dish prepared with garlic, green chilli, green pepper and chefs special spicy sauce. Medium hot dish). It had to be a Sag lamb for myself. (A beautiful combination of spinach, garlic and spices absolutely delicious medium/hot). Whilst

waiting for our mains to arrive, we glanced around at all the happy diners enjoying a Thursday evening treat. The phone was busy and lots of people were ordering and collecting Takeaways, Kashmir Café is a popular restaurant in this area. Naveed arrived at our table with polishing hot plates ready for our mains to come out, a lovely touch and fantastic table service. The mains were sublime Luke’s garlic chilli chicken was amazing infused flavours cooked tender chicken chat served with keema rice a naan. Compliments to the chef. My lamb sag was divine, the lamb simply melted in my mouth, the spinach complimented the dish perfectly and served with garlic fried rice it was delicious. We will defiantly be returning to Mr Naseems hidden gem in Madeley. As we chatted to a lovely couple, regular diners here at Kashmir Café, they couldn’t praise the restaurant, food and service enough. They visit weekly and have high praise for Mr Naseem and team.

We were served a traditional pudding called Kheer, served in a pretty glass this almond and pistachio assemble topped with desiccated coconut was a delight. Kashmir Café caters for any occasion and has ample parking too. Well done to Mr Naseem and team, Kashmir

café most certainly do pride themselves with a high standard of foods and service, lovely food, friendly attentive staff and a lovely restaurant. Highly recommended by The Hype team. I am already considering a return visit. 10% Discount on collections orders above £10 Open 7 days a week 5-11pm

Ask For Angela_Double Page Editorial 12/12/2017 7:36 PM Page 1

The Local Grapevine.. ASK FOR ANGELA...

initiative launched in City pubs and clubs

A

new innovative campaign enabling those who feel vulnerable in pubs and clubs to discreetly approach staff and get help is being launched in the City of Wolverhampton.

Ask for Angela - is the initiative, which will be operating at a number of pubs and clubs in the city centre, aims to reduce sexual violence and vulnerability by providing customers with a phrase they can use if they find themselves in an unsafe situation.

It encourages people to go to the bar and "Ask for Angela", which will alert staff to their cry for help and mean they can take action to defuse the situation. They will take the individual to one side or to a safer location away from the person causing the problem so that they can speak in confidence to staff about the situation and any help they may need. Staff are encouraged to take action as appropriate, perhaps calling a taxi for the individual, contacting their

friends or family or requesting that the person causing the distress - either through their actions, words or behaviour - leaves the venue.

Twelve pubs in Wolverhampton have already signed up for the scheme, launched by the City of Wolverhampton Council, West Midlands Police and Wolverhampton Pubwatch, including the Plough and Harrow, Lych Gate Tavern, Chicago Rock Cafe, Wheatsheaf, Old Still, Yates, Hogshead, Slaters, Bohemian, Grain Store, Dog and Doublet and The Royal London.

YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND ON A NIGHT OUT ... ASK FOR ANGELA!

Councillor Paul Sweet, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: "We want people to have a great time and feel safe and comfortable when they are out and about in our City's pubs and clubs, and this is a simple yet effective scheme which empowers them to seek help if they are feeling at all vulnerable by raising their concerns with staff.

"People might find themselves in the company of someone who is not who they seemed, and may will want to get away from them safely and without any fuss. By going to the bar and asking for 'Angela', staff will be able to make sure this happens and help prevent the situation from becoming more serious. "I would like to thank the pubs and clubs which are already part of the Ask for Angela scheme, and would encourage others to sign up so that people who find themselves in unsafe situations know they can get help in the event they need it. "It is particularly appropriate that we are launching Ask for Angela during the Orange Wolverhampton campaign in support of the United Nations' 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls, as this is an excellent tool to help tackle gender-based violence."

Donna Boden, General Manager at Yates Wolverhampton and Chair of Wolverhampton Pubwatch, said: "Ask for Angela is a great idea which will support young females who are feeling vulnerable. It's great to see so many local businesses and networks coming together to a support such a fantastic scheme."

Wolverhampton is only the third area in the country to offer the service, which was originally devised by Lincolnshire County Council.

Spend a night in the cells! On the face of it it’s not the most romantic proposition - until you realise it’s an invitation to Pondicherry Restaurant in Ironbridge. Of course, you will find all your old favourites on the menu - but there are plenty of new dishes to discover, too. Influences from all four corners of the vast Indian subcontinent have helped to create a menu that appeals to every palate: Inspired by the best street food in the world, Pondicherry’s dishes range from delicately spiced to aromatic and full-flavoured - and because each dish is freshly prepared you can have it cooked precisely to your liking.

Pondicherry opened in the Old Police Station in Ironbridge some ten years ago and has won a well-deserved reputation for consistently delivering stylish, contemporary Indian Cuisine in a unique setting.

Even the wine list will surprise and delight: Dare to be a little different and order the Santa Digna Gewurztraminer Reserve from Chile - it may be a bit of a mouthful to pronounce and not quite what you would normally order, but it goes fantastically well with Indian food. At Pondicherry the food may take centre stage, but they deliver every aspect of the dining experience with equal aplomb: The service is friendly and relaxed - and the surroundings

are simply stunning. You enter what was once the Constables Office (it’s now a stylish bar and lounge area). Upstairs the main restaurant is in what was once the courtroom - the Royal coat of arms is still proudly displayed above the door, while downstairs you’ll find the cells. There are three cells in all, still with their sturdy oak studded doors, and each has been stylishly converted to offer what is probably the most unique private dining experience in Shropshire. On the evidence of the food, the service and the surroundings, you’ll find Pondicherry Restaurant one of the most arresting dining experiences in the County.

A Free Session At Shropshire 3d Fat Freeze! Cryolipolysis selectively targets the water content of the fat cell. A temperature of -6 degrees is applied to the area of concern and maintained for a pre-determined time period to damage the fat cells. The damaged fat cells undergo a natural removal process that continues for up to 3 months.

(Prices work per area and are session based - 1 session is £50 we recommend 6/8 sessions for maximum results)

Is it permanent?

HIFU treatments are amazingly a one-off treatment which will help you achieve tighter, firmer, and lifted skin!

Fat freezing - how does this work?

Yes! The fat cells that are destroyed by the freezing process are absorbed and excreted naturally by the body. Once destroyed, the same fat cells cannot grow back as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How many sessions are required?

This is a one off treatment. A course of treatment is not required.

Are there any side effects?

Cryolipolysis is non-invasive and hence there is no downtime. You will experience redness which is transient. The area treated may feel numb for 2 – 3 hours but very occasionally this can persist for a few weeks. You may develop slight bruising, but this will resolve over the ensuing days.

3D Cavitation

Defnd Our NHS Edit_Double Page Editorial 12/11/2017 10:23 AM Page 1

The Local Grapevine.. Shropshire Moms and Babies at Risk - Shropshire Defend Our NHS

‘They’re Playing Games with the Lives of Women and Babies’...

ow dare they? They’re playing games with the lives of women and babies” - That was the response from health campaigner Gill George following a recent meeting where Shropshire CCG bosses announced the destruction of rural maternity care.

H

The plan from CCG decision makers is that the Midwife-Led Units in Bridgnorth, Oswestry and Ludlow will be closed to births forever. Instead, they will be turned into jolly ‘community hubs’ – which offer - for 12 hours a day - the support that used to be available 24/7 at every Midwife-Led Maternity Unit. Now, for those rural communities, there will be a choice between home births (not suitable for every mother), or travelling the long journey to Shrewsbury or Telford. Gill George

added, ‘It was quite bizarre. They kept insisting tonight, “This is what women want” and “This is what women asked for”. We heard this from Commissioning Lead Fiona Ellis and from an independent advisor called Fay Baillie as well. What nonsense. They have been told by hundreds and hundreds of women in our rural communities to keep births and postnatal care in our local areas, and to keep our MidwifeLed Units open. Maybe they just forgot to write it down because it wasn’t what they wanted to hear.’ In an angry meeting, members of the public were told that women in rural communities will have a choice – between home birth and travelling to Shrewsbury or Telford. Asked about ‘rural proofing’ and making sure the needs of rural communities are met, Fiona Ellis looked bewildered and was unable to answer. Questions on the risks to some women and babies of home births weren’t answered. Members of the public asked about the risks of travelling long distances in

labour – and we were told midwives will ask the right questions and make a judgement call. That’s all right then!

We were told that the ‘Northwick Park model’ says there are enough beds after the closure of the rural Maternity beds – even though the lived experience of women and midwives is that the pressure on beds is relentless and has contributed very directly to unacceptable levels of risk. Bridgnorth councillor and campaigner Dr Julia Buckley, present at the meeting, said, ‘They’re ignoring the evidence that a shortage of beds has led to adverse outcomes for babies – and they’re just carrying on and cutting beds. That has to be unacceptable. There are some important economic arguments here too. This is another strand in the destruction of our rural market towns, as young families will be far less likely to move to these areas.’

Maternity campaigners added their own voices to the growing chorus of protest. Ally Hiles, leader of the Ludlow Maternity campaign, said ‘We now know of FOUR babies born in Ludlow without midwife support, two in the last few weeks. One of those four babies was mine. What makes them think it’s acceptable that my life and my child’s life were put at risk? What makes them think they can do this to other women? We’re not going to let this decision stand.’ Bobbie Brown, Coordinator of the Bridgnorth campaign said, ‘This outcome goes against everything they’ve been pretending – about listening to women, not levelling down to the lowest common denominator, treating us with respect. They’re devious – and they’re completely contemptuous of Mums, babies and our safety. No way.’ And Liz Grayston, Coordinator of the Oswestry Maternity campaign, summed up the mood of rural communities well: ‘They have yet to get it through consultation - in front of the women they have apparently 'listened' to. Last time in Oswestry, 11 years ago, the crowd of us was so large and angry that we just couldn’t be ignored. It’s time for repeats, across our county. They have a fight on their hands’. Clean Eating DISHES FOR New Year

Healthy Green Fritters A healthy breakfast option that will keep you feeling satisfied until lunch time. With eggs, green vegetables, such as broccoli and courgettes, it’s a quick and easy way to start the day right.

Method

Eggs Baked in Avocado Ingredients 2 Eggs 1 Avocado, Halved And Pitted 2 Teaspoons Chopped Fresh Chives Fresh Parsley Salt And Freshly Ground Black Pepper To Taste Optional Extra - Chopped, Crispy Bacon.

Method 1. Preheat oven to 220C 2. Crack the eggs into a cup or bowl, being careful to keep the yolks intact. 3. Arrange avocado halves in a baking dish, resting them along the edge to prevent them from tipping over. Gently spoon 1 egg yolk into the avocado hole. Continue spooning egg white into the hole until full. Do the same with the remaining avocado half. Season each filled avocado with chives, parsley, sea salt and pepper. 4. Pop the baking dish gently into the preheated oven and bake for about 15 mins, until eggs are cooked. Garnish with chives and chopped bacon (if you are having it) and serve.

1. Squeeze the grated courgettes to remove any excess moisture, or tip onto a clean tea towel and twist it to squeeze out any excess moisture. 2. Beat the eggs together in a bowl, tip in the broccoli, courgette and some of the dill, and mix together well. Sprinkle in the flour, mix again and season. 3. Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan. Put a laddle full of the mixture in the pan at a time, you should be able to fit around 3 fritters at a time, depending on the size of your pan. Cook for 3-4 mins on a medium heat until golden brown on one side, by then it should be solid enough for you to flip over, and cook again for 3-4 mins on the other side. Repeat to make 3 more fritters (you probably won’t need any more oil). Garnish with some dill and serve.

Paloma Faith.

Paloma Faith Tour Tour_Double Page Editorial 12/8/2017 1:01 PM Page 1

The Architect covers everything from Motherhood to Politics...

Paloma said: “‘The Architect’ is a social observation record. I was adamant that I wouldn’t write about love. I wanted to look outside of myself. I’m coming at politics from the perspective of the common man or woman, observing why people are suffering. Each song on the record is about a different pocket of the socio-political world that I’ve been delving into.” She added: “I wanted to write something more modern. On previous albums I’ve been more concerned with the past, but now I’m looking forward because of motherhood and wanting to change things for a better future. It’s a marriage of old and new.”

Paloma Faith – one of only two British female artists this decade to have their last three albums go double platinum in the UK – released her long-awaited fourth album, ‘The Architect’, in November.

The new album – her first in more than three years and since giving birth to her first child – features an array of acclaimed cowriters, producers and collaborators including: Sia, John Legend, Jesse Shatkin, TMS, Starsmith, Tobias Jesso Jr., Eg White, Rag'n'Bone Man, actor Samuel L. Jackson and journalist and activist Owen Jones.

Paloma, who won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2015 following the phenomenal success of her last record, 2014’s ‘A Perfect Contradiction’, explores both personal and political themes on the album.

Whilst the music is classic Paloma – with sweeping orchestral tracks, smooth soul, sleek disco grooves and stomping electro pop all featured on the album – the lyrics raise social and political questions, and cover powerful and topical themes, such as motherhood, social anxiety, wealth inequality, technology’s impact on feelings

Feature | Live Tours

of alienation…. oh and also the future of the Western world, Donald Trump, Brexit and the refugee crisis – all within the confines of classic pop.

Title track ‘The Architect’ features - if you can imagine it – Paloma as Mother Nature, singing to humanity, while ‘Guilty’ reflects on the Brexit vote from the perspective of a Leave voter who regrets their choice. Lead single ‘Crybaby’ ponders whether war would cease to exist if men successfully dealt with their emotions, and ‘Lost and Lonely’ is sung from the viewpoint of a skeleton!

The album also includes the track ‘Warrior’ written by Sia, which Paloma interprets to be about the refugee crisis, a duet with John Legend, ‘I’ll Be Gentle’, and two spoken word interludes – album opener ‘Evolution’ which is performed by acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson and ‘Politics of Hope’ which is a political commentary by Owen Jones. String arrangements on ‘The Architect’, ‘Warrior’ and ‘I’ll Be Gentle’ were written by David Arnold, the celebrated film and TV composer best known for his work on James Bond and Sherlock.

Paloma released the video for the first single, ‘Crybaby’ - the dystopian video, directed by Thomas James and was shot in Ukraine, with opening footage of IVF, a newborn baby and a young girl, before a man addresses a group of uniformed young people, including the girl, in a human factory. He gives a speech about qualities such as emotion, empathy and feeling, which he says are “for the weak, for those we leave behind, for those that we remove from the crop.” The rest of video features Paloma as one of the people in the institution as she encounters the brutal training of the people imprisoned.

‘The Architect’ follows the huge success of Paloma’s last album, ‘A Perfect Contradiction’, which spent 29 weeks in the Top 10 Albums Chart, 66 weeks in the Top 40, and 100 weeks in the Top 200. The epic lead single from the record, ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’, is Paloma’s biggest-selling to date, with over half a million copies sold and 55 million streams on Spotify.

Paloma will embark on a UK arena tour this year, entertaining huge crowds across the UK and Ireland playing shows at venues including the Genting Arena in Birmingham.

Love is in the air…

Let’s face it, we can all relate to Bridget Jones and her ‘big knickers’ but sexy lingerie is a must for Valentine’s Day, and luckily for us all there are some amazing sets available on the high street. A guaranteed way to turn up the heat in the bedroom is treating yourself, or your partner to some stunning lingerie. With lots of options available to suit everyone from the most body confident of us, to the more shy and retiring - it shouldn’t be too much of a struggle to find something both daring and flattering from stores such as Marks & Spencer, Boux Avenue or even Ann Summers, who have not only a great range of sexy sultry undies but also offer higher coverage underwear for the less body confident amongst us. Corsets and chemises are great if you worry about your dreaded stomach area, or if you want to emphasize your bust area, a keyhole neckline is a great option. New Look have some really pretty sets too with delicate lace and balcony bras, with seductive cut outs and sexy strappy detailing that are very reasonably priced so you won’t have to break the bank.

Book Worms... Snuggle up with a good book...

A successful travel journalist, Bridget has ambitions to turn her quirky relationship blog about the missing pieces of her heart into a book. But after a spate of rejections from publishers, she accepts an alternative proposition... Nicole Dupré died leaving behind a bestselling novel and an incomplete sequel. Tasked with finishing the book, Bridget is thankful to have her foot in the publishing door, even if it means relocating to Cornwall for the summer and answering to Nicole's grieving husband, Charlie. But as she gets to know the family Nicole left behind, and the woman behind the words, Bridget’s priorities begin to change...

I’m a little late to the party when it comes to reading books by the ever-fabulous Paige Toon. I read ‘The One We Fell in Love with’ on my summer holiday to Majorca last year and while I thought it was okay, I wasn’t overly impressed so didn’t bother to read anymore. However, in the last couple of weeks, I’ve read more and more of her books, so when I saw her latest read ‘The Last Piece of my Heart’ was on offer in my local store, I couldn’t resist.

Bridget is so much fun! The protagonist of the book, she is happily settled with her boyfriend Elliot who lives in Australia and writes a relationship blog which she desperately wants to turn into a novel. So, she sets about travelling around the world to ask her ex-boyfriends for a piece of her heart back.

Georgina Jefimik The Last Piece of my Heart - by Paige Toon

Book Review...

Author: Paige Toon Series: Standalone Genre: Contemporary, Romance, Release Date: May 18th 2017 Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK

Her publisher has another offer though: to travel to Cornwall and become a ghost-writer to finish the sequel to Nicole Duprés bestselling book after she sadly died. Queue a trip to Cornwall where Bridget meets Charlie, a grieving husband and his daughter April. I really enjoyed reading about Cornwall, it’s a place I’ve never been but always wanted to go and after reading this book, it has moved to the top of my places to visit.

I also loved seeing how Bridget’s relationship developed with Charlie and April. It wasn’t rushed, and although there was a spark from the beginning, it developed slowly which suited the pace of the book in general. To be honest though, I couldn’t wait for Charlie and Bridget to finally get together. After every page, I was willing Charlie to just finally kiss her! This book is a journey of self-discovery for Bridget. Her whole life centres around her past and trying to piece together her heart so she can finish her blog and get it published. The moment she realises that her blog isn’t the most important thing and what is, is right in front of her, I was overcome with the same emotions she was feeling. She is strong, and brave and I was rooting for her through the whole of the book as she risked everything for what truly matters. I couldn’t put this book down and read it within 24 hours and I know others will find it hard not to do the same.

This book is perfect for anyone who loves a happy ending. From the very first moment I met Bridget, I knew she would always have a piece of my heart. I couldn’t not give this book 5/5 stars and I am so excited to see what Paige has in store for us next. By Georgina Jefimik

ring the New Year into your home with a stylish hallway. Your hallway is far more than just a corridor leading to other parts of your home, it is an integral part of it and making the most of this space can create an entrance with the wow factor.

B

By adding clever storage solutions, using the right colours a lighting options, you can create a stylish hallway worthy of you will love to come home to. Even tiny hallways can become beautiful, welcoming spaces. Instead of being the family dumping ground for everything from coats and shoes to school bags and post, it can become a space you will be happy to welcome guests into your home. Neutral colours work best on small hallways, both walls and floors in neutral hues enhance the feeling of light spaciousness, then using decorative accessories you can add a splash of colour.

A mirror in the hallway is a must, not only does it add space and help reflect lights around, it is a great way to check out how you look before you step out of the door. Ceramic floor tiles or wooden flooring are the best options for practical reasons, after all, the hallway has the highest footfall throughout the whole house.

WALLPAPER RETURNS...

Wall coverings are back

Add a feature wall with pretty wallpaper like with these from Wilkinsons £15 a roll.

Wallpaper is making a real comeback; using subtle patterns you can add an interesting touch without it being overpowering. Painted walls are great as it’s easy to touch up the paint when the walls gets scuffed and marked. Getting rid of clutter has to be the number one priority, so creating clever storage is essential. Add a bench seat with drawers or baskets built in; great for storing shoes. If there is room you could add a built in cupboard for coats to be hung, or alternatively add pegs for both coats and hats. A well-planned, well-decorated hallway – Welcome home!

FLOORING OPTIONS...

Podiatry and Chiropody Care

Chiropodist or Podiatrist - What is the difference?

Podiatry is the modern term for professionals that also undertake routine medical based treatment of the foot and ankle. Be sure to check that your podiatrist has a full 3 year BSc Hons In Podiatric Medicine, for the Gold standard in Foot and Ankle treatment. This is a 3 year full time Science degree and requires dedication and significant training by the NHS and University to complete. Surprisingly, many of the those in the foot health market have many letters to accompany the qualifications, but are in fact very poorly qualified in comparison. Some with a distant learning course, part time by post! When looking for a podiatrist in Telford or Shrewsbury, ensure that you are visiting a well educated and skilled healthcare professional.

Why use General Podiatry Treatments?

Podiatry is very important, in the health of the population, as without your feet you can not walk! Staying active and mobile is important. Suffering and pain is often easily remedied. Of course Rheumatoid arthritis, Diabetic foot treatments are all important. But even the healthiest sports person can be incapacitated by athletes foot that becomes infected with bacteria, the healthiest pensioner can end in hospital with infective arthritis to the knee or ankle, after a simple corn becomes infected. I have patients, that have lost a limb due to these complaints! Worryingly, they were fit and healthy in all other aspects.

Podiatric Medicine - Trust in a professional.

Many people suffer needlessly with simple, often superficial foot complaints. I often mention to my patients, some of whom travel many miles to visit me, that a corn, hard skin or ingrowing toenail can be far more painful than any of the more "serious" complaints that I deal with each day. It is here that well skilled Professional Podiatry can assist as a routine and often regular treatment.

As a HCPC registered podiatrist and holder of a BSc (Hons) Pod Med, all of your foot complaints can be easily and comfortably treated. I hold full licence to issue antibiotics for nail and foot infections, as well as a high degree of skill in using local anaesthetic and steroid injections, to numb and make your treatment painless if required. In reality, this is rarely required! All clinical equipment is Vacuum Autoclaved, after thorough Ultrasonic cleansing, to provide the best in patient protection. Using the latest spray drill technology, your treatment and hard skin, is reduced quickly and perfectly every time. A podiatry treatment is thorough and addresses all medical conditions of the foot and ankle, this is not a buffing or low grade treatment, as offered by beauticians and the poorly qualified practitioners that tend to operate outside of the regulated healthcare environment.

Whether you need callous reduced and dry heels cured, corns removed, verrucae treated or ingrown nails removed in Telford, Newport, or Shrewsbury Shropshire - Call for an appointment sooner rather than later. I offer fair fees and high quality, gentle treatment.

If it is a foot, ankle or leg complaint then The Foot Doctor can help. To find out more visit www.TheFootDoctor.co.uk or call Steven Dowdeswell on 01952 677063 and take the first step to solving your foot and heel pain.

Smear Test...

Are you due a smear test?

It only takes 5 minutes to have a cervical smear test and it could potentially save your life. Many women avoid smear tests due to lack of time, fear of discomfort or even embarrassment. It is important to make it a priority and your GP will do everything to make you comfortable. Results are back in 2 weeks and in all likelihood you will get the all clear - It really puts your mind at ease to get it done out of the way, so don’t put it off any longer - book yours today!

Sleep Well...

Are you getting good sleep?

W

onderful Coconuts... Why are we going nuts for Coconuts?

I often treat myself to a snack of coconut; it’s tasty and natural but what are the benefits of eating coconut? Firstly it is high in lauric acid which is better for our bodies than oils that are high in trans-fatty acids. Studies have suggested that some indigenous communities that rely on coconut oil for a large portion of their calorie intake show them to be amongst the healthiest in the world. They suffer fewer illnesses, and have no signs of heart disease. With a huge amount of coconut products appearing on the shelves of supermarkets and shops, from oil, water and of course coconut itself – it’s literally everywhere. So why are we suddenly going nuts for coconut and what benefits does it have? Drinking Coconut helps to improve digestion, boost energy and combat sweet cravings –

making it one of nature’s finest fluids. Add it to a smoothie or even straight from the fruit itself. Using coconut as a dental wash – a process known as ‘oil pulling’ is believed to draw toxins from the salivary glands, teeth and gums. It involves swilling a tablespoon of oil around your mouth for about 15 minutes, just remember to dispose of the oil carefully once finished as it will harden and block the sink. With celebrity fans which include the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow no less, it has to be worth a try, it is even said to help with everything from hangovers to eczema – so get swilling! Beautiful Coconut is the latest edition to the must have list of beauty products, for very good reason. With antibacterial and antifungal properties, it is packed with vitamin E and proteins; it has a brilliant ability to lock in moisture, making it the new best friend of anyone with dry hair or skin. It also makes a really effective make-up remover or even a really great lip balm – it really is a versatile product. So go nuts for Coconut…

The best way of getting a good nights sleep is to avoid your phone or tablet in the bedroom. Don’t get tempted to check emails or update social media before bed - your profile picture will last another night! If you use it as an alarm just buy an alarm clock so your phone is not in arms reach of your bed, plus the blue light they emit can affect your quality of sleep.

Eating Right?...

Do I need to change what I eat?

Eat natural foods and avoid processed foods where possible. Check if you are eating enough wholefoods, like fish, eggs, lean meat, veggies, fruit, nuts and wholegrains. Listen to your body by eating slowly and stopping when you feel full not when your plate is empty. These two simplw steps can help aid long-term weight regulation and have many added health benefits.

Know your Breasts... Have my breasts changed?

Breast cancer signs and symptoms vary, so it is important to check your breasts regularly for any changes - and that applies to the guys too! Study how they look and feel and you will soon be able to notice if any changes occur. Any change in your breast is worth getting checked out by your GP, this applies to the armpit and right up to your collar bone.

Families can be first to play at new LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham

F

amilies are set to gain exclusive access to Birmingham’s new indoor LEGO® playground before it opens to the public.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham will officially open its doors in summer 2018 but the new limited-edition First to Play annual pass will put families first in line for the £7 million attraction at the city’s Arena Birmingham.

The hot new annual pass, an ideal Christmas gift for families, is now available for first visits when it opens next Summer. It will grant unlimited access for 12 months to the 58,900 sq ft centre, which will allow children to experience the LEGO universe in giant proportions over two floors with rides, model play areas, interactive features and three million of the iconic bricks.

Amy Langham, General Manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham, said: “We cannot wait to welcome children and their families to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham. The release of the First to Play pass is another milestone as we prepare to open next year and will give great value for families. However, those interested need to be quick off the mark as there’s only a limited amount of the passes available. “Our Master Builders are hard at work behind the scenes preparing our fantastic play areas and rides and we are looking forward to our First to Play visitors getting to experience it for themselves, before anyone else.”

With ten LEGO play zones, two themed rides including Kingdom Quest and Merlin’s Apprentice, a Build and Test area and a 4D cinema with capacity for 100 people, children aged between three and ten years old will be able to enjoy up to three hours of interactive fun by jumping in the world’s biggest box of LEGO bricks. Younger visitors will get to enjoy the Duplo Farm.

The new facility will also include a LEGO shop and will house a MINILAND which, with the help of a public vote, will showcase iconic LEGO versions of well-known Birmingham buildings.

The £45 annual passes will be available to purchase via the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham website, https://birmingham.legolanddiscoverycentr e.co.uk/buy-a-pass/

The Motoring Review.. THE SEAT IBIZA... By Sue Cooke

FACTS AT A GLANCE

Model: SEAT Ibiza 5 door FR Price: £16,630otr

Engine: 1 litre TSi 115 PS 6 speed manual Performance: 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 121 mph CO2 emissions: 108g/km Combined fuel consumption: 60.1mpg listen to the radio using her technology but tell her to shut up when the annoying adverts intervene! The Ibiza received five stars; the highest number possible; in the EuroNCAP crash tests, performing particularly well in passenger protection and in the efficiency of its driver assist systems, especially the emergency brake’s Front Assist system.

hate driving in these darker nights which will be with us until March and IAM RoadSmart says shorter daylight hours, mainly between 3pm and 7pm bring more incidents involving pedestrians and asks us as drivers to be more aware.

I

In a perfect world the dimly lit roads, particularly country lanes, would be lit up like daylight, pedestrians would wear hi-vis jackets and they would never have to cross a road. I can’t claim to have found perfection but driving the new SEAT Ibiza this week, I came pretty close to it. The fifth-generation supermini has the brightest headlamps I’ve ever experienced, which splayed a beam wide enough to light up both sides of the road and was very near to driving in daylight. SEAT says the new Ibiza stands out for including the most advanced technology in terms of safety, driver assist systems and connectivity. Headlamps use LEDs, new to this class of car, which offer much higher quality lighting while at the same time,

saving energy, resulting in improved fuel economy. Marvellous and I actually began to enjoy any evening trips instead of trying to avoid them. Launched in 1984 for the first time, the Ibiza has been around the longest in the history of the Spanish manufacturer and is its topselling model. It’s easy to understand why. I had a week of busy but very easy driving. The new SEAT Ibiza is only available as a five-door option and the exterior styling is a lot more grown up, fresh and young but mature and balanced. It is built on a new platform so has a longer wheelbase which means more space inside. Leg room has increased and my passenger and I had a decent amount of courtesy room between our shoulders. The boot is bigger too with a total capacity of 355 litres, making it best in class. As the demand for voice-controlled assistants is increasing among drivers, SEAT will introduce ‘Alexa’ to the new Ibiza, from this year (2018). Already available in the SEAT Ateca and Leon, the technology will be introduced to the new Arona which will be launched this year. My favourite thing about the Alexa system I use at home is that I can

There is a selection of frugal engines to choose from, both petrol and diesel but my favourite is the 1 litre 3-cylinder TSi with 115PS, which along with a turbo compressor, intercooler and direct injection, provides a wealth of power, just when you need it. Overtaking, getting onto a roundabout, no problem. The new SEAT Ibiza has a lot going for it. The supermini has grown up, has lots of interior space with genuine room for four, offers frugal but powerful engines, is keenly priced and has fantastic technology, particularly when driving in the dark!

6 Top Tips for New Pet Owners

Did you know that on average a medium-sized dog may cost over £20,000 to care for over the course of its life? Food, vaccinations, insurance and vet bills can soon add up. Fortunately, there are several ways you can minimize and spread that cost.

Tip 1: Get insurance as soon as possible Purchase a policy early in your pet's life - pre-existing conditions are usually not covered. Consider lifetime insurance, especially if you are concerned about chronic or recurring illness.

Tip 2: Get them vaccinated All dogs, cats and rabbits need to be vaccinated to protect them against common ailments. Dogs and cats also need worm treatment, as worms can cause a blockage of the gastro-intestinal tract, especially in puppies, and represent a health risk to humans, especially young children. Cats in particular require flea treatment, not only because they themselves suffer if they've got fleas, but also because this can lead to some very unpleasant problems for their owners. Think flea bites and having to spray your entire house.

Tip 3: Make sure they’re microchipped Microchipping makes it extremely easy to identify a pet if they are lost and from the 6th of April 2016, all dogs in the UK must be microchipped and registered to an approved database by the time they are 8 weeks old. Ask your vet if they offer puppy or kitten packages as they can often include the basics at a significant discount.

Tip 4: Get them neutered Having your pet neutered is another important way to prevent serious health problems, especially in female dogs. Of particular significance is a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus called Pyometra, which vets have to deal with very frequently. Older entire male dogs often struggle to pass faeces because of prostate problems which could have been prevented by castration. Often neutered dogs are much more easily trained. In cats, the main reason for neutering is the prevention of increasing numbers of unwanted kittens. Tip 5: Give them a good diet It is vital that pets are not fed scraps of human food, because this will almost invariably lead to obesity and dental problems. Every day, vets also treat patients because of diarrhoea and vomiting due to dietary indiscretion. One fatty meal, for example roast pork, could be enough to give your dog a very serious bout of pancreatitis, requiring it to be hospitalised.

Tip 6: Don’t reward inappropriate behaviour Finally, try not to reward inappropriate behaviour. It will make your life a lot easier in the future. As a classic example of how inappropriate behaviour can be reinforced, think of the owner who, after his or her dog has just tried to bite the vet, pets the dog and, in a well-intentioned attempt to calm it down, praises it “Good dog!” It happens all the time! Remember - each pet is different and there is an element of learning whether it is your first or tenth. Always contact your vet if you have any concerns – they’re here to help!
