Well, where is the year going?
I can’t believe it is September already! The days and months seem to disappear before my eyes.

Let’s hope that something is done, and quickly to help everyone through, especially those who most need it...”

But with crisis in our NHS, strikes for workers to be paid a decent wagewithout having to claim Universal Credit top-ups and the cost-of-living crisis, and spiralling inflation has however hit many people very hard. There are not many people that are not being affected by the cost of fuel, energy and food. In fact, only the very well-off seem to be managing to cope, while most are having to cut back, and some even struggling to eat properly, or pay their bills.

set to welcome visitors from 10 September 2022
Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is internationally important as its Main Mill is the world’s first iron-framed building (built 17961797) and is the forerunner to the modern-day skyscraper. The site will open from 10 September 2022 for the public to visit and learn more about its incredible role in the Industrial Revolution and the great contribution Shrewsbury and the Midlands have made to the world as manufacturers and innovators.

With digital and hands-on activities for all ages, visitors can walk the floors where spinning machines whirred, flax flew and barley was processed for beer to brew. The Mill explores the lives and stories of workers, engineers, soldiers and entrepreneurs who played their part in one of the greatest heritage transformations of all time.
Now fully restored, the Main Mill and Kiln are opening for the first time as a visitor destination, with a new exhibition, shop and independent café – it’s not so run of the mill.

As we say goodbye to August, we start to realise that Summer is now past its prime, and many of us begin to turn our thoughts to the arrival of Autumn and all the refreshing changes it brings, from crisp, cool air and crunchy leaves in beautiful colours. But that’s no reason to go into hibernation and give up spending time outdoors as we’ve been used to do since Spring – there’s still plenty of life in our gardens and nature beyond your front door.

Autumn is a very important time of year for the birds, as they start to gather up food and make their shelters for the harsh Winter weather ahead. Help out your local wildlife with a bird feeder dish in your garden, where they can collect some much-needed food and water to help sustain them. Not only great for feathered friends, the beautiful designs will help to brighten up your garden as the weather outside takes a turn.

Jackets played a big part in the '90s, and we see a return of not only the classic moto, or biker, jacket but the bomber jacket too. There's going to be one item that is going to go viral this season, and that is the humble white vest. As we go into the winter months, this surprisingly simple, and quite summery item will be on the majority of fashion people's wish lists.

Autumn is the season of falling leaves, comfy boots and cosy jumpers. A time when green leaves turn to gold, the air turns crisp, and a time for giving thanks...
A legacy of the pandemic is comfortable footwear. We have got used to slippers, trainers and sliders and the thought of putting on a pair of heels fills most of us with dread. Fortunately, many brands are offering footwear options for autumn/winter 2022 which are equally "ugly" and footloving. With biker style back on trend, it's no wonder that stompy moto boots are also returning.
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons when it comes to fashion. The rich colours, from autumnal reds, oranges and browns, to bold pinks, or dark greens and the rich textures and warm knits and sumptuous leather all combine together wonderfully.

I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2016, resulting in a significant increase in my dreams and nightmares. Whilst I received therapy to live with my PTSD, understanding my dreams and interpreting them have always been a mystery. This book has unlocked those questions, I am grateful for the support and answers they have given me. The sleep cycle repair kit offers practical help. A must-read. Thank you!
Pip - Reviewer...
The 4am Mystery: that’s an actual thing by the way. Even before a global health crisis took the shape of COVID-19, people around the world were finding themselves sleep deprived, awake in the middle of the night.
It explores why you’re awake, how you can manage your mind at night, and what might help if it’s your dream content wreaking havoc. Drawing on nearly two decades of therapeutic work, research, and an ancient wisdom proven to helpfully manage the mind, Delphi connects the dots between sleep, dreams and our mental health. She particularly highlights the impact of grief and loss on our wellbeing, which can ultimately affect the quality of our night-time rest - even if no one has died. Her book guides the reader on a journey to make friends with night-time, learning what the dark might have to offer, to achieve a calmer, healthier, happier life.
Delphi is a qualified counsellor, wellbeing trainer and mindfulness practitioner who has worked in a therapeutic setting since 2002. She started her helping career supporting people in grief, mainly those bereaved by murder and suicide. She now works in the community promoting mental health maintenance and recovery, mindful leadership and workplace wellness. She lives in Bedfordshire, UK.

A much-celebrated aspect of the School is its ability to be future focused and equip students for life. This is highlighted in Wolverhampton Grammar School’s approach to embracing the use of digital technology in the classroom. Outsiders looking in might think that an iPad for every student is merely a gimmick, whereas in fact it can add a fourth dimension to teaching and learning. The raison d'être behind the introduction of its iPad scheme is constantly borne out by students’ greater engagement with their subject matter - be that a study of geometric shapes or a recount of a moment in history.
WGS
Wolverhampton Grammar School... Education Feature
At Wolverhampton Grammar School, record pupil numbers have heralded a vibrant and busy start to the new academic year.
Following the expansion of its Junior School, further opportunities have been created to join Wolverhampton Grammar School earlier. Once a state grammar school for boys, this 510-year-old establishment now offers the very best 4-18 through-school independent education for boys and girls in the City of Wolverhampton and its environs.
The journey began back in 2017 and shortly afterwards, Wolverhampton Grammar School was shortlisted for the Times Education Supplement Independent Schools Award for the “Best use of Technology”. Five years on, the use of technology is seamlessly integrated into a teaching style which continues to emphasise outstanding teacher and student relationships.
As Head Alex Frazer remarks, “Wolverhampton Grammar School has a long and proud history but one of our greatest traditions is that of looking forward and not standing still. Whilst retaining the best elements of a time-honoured approach to education, we never stop anticipating the future. We want to equip our students with the skills to navigate the careers of tomorrow, many of which are yet to be written.”
At Wolverhampton Grammar School, students and staff have wholeheartedly embraced the use of digital technology. Prospective families are invited to visit on Saturday 8th October to find out more.
Right from the beginning of their WGS journey the youngest children in Reception have access to iPads. From Year 3 upwards this moves to personal ownership but handwriting remains an important skill to be taught, just as much as a teaching style where human relationships is paramount. It is this blending learning that is so compelling and empowers students to interrogate and investigate a mix of tailored resources, fuelling individuality of learning.

The Big Debate: Round or Rectangular?
Extend Your Options .
He continues, "A round shape will tend to be wider than a rectangular table, our Island Breeze round table starts at 120cm across, whereas a standard rectangular table is around 90cm. This gives you loads of extra space for serving dishes and platters, and the seating plan is really flexible as well, with the legs tucked nicely in from the edge. In a smaller or narrower space, where the extra width of a round or oval table may be a problem, stick to a rectangular table, it's the most space efficient way of seating a given number of guests".

Whether a home features a modern open plan kitchen-diner or a more traditional stand alone dining room, finding the perfect furniture takes some consideration and research. Adam Brown, owner of The Painted Furniture Company offers us his advice.
Arguably one of the most important pieces of furniture in the home, the dining table takes centre stage at so many special occasions from Christmases & Birthdays, to Easter lunches and dinners with friends. Therefore, it's worth taking some time to assess the options before purchasing and one of first things to consider is the shape. Adam advises, "The 'round or rectangle' debate is one to have straight away, there are advantages to both shapes and in considering both shapes you may open up design and layout options you hadn't previously considered".

How Big To Go?
Whilst we may require the same number of seats around the table on an everyday basis, there are often times when friends and family descend and additional places are needed. This is where being able to extend your table comes into its own. At The Painted Furniture Company, all of their dining tables are extendable and while they offer fixed top options for those who may prefer them, its easy to see why the flexibility of an extending table is such a good idea.
Dining Room
Once you have settled on the shape, the next consideration is likely to be what size to get. This is influenced by the size of the space available, not such a problem in an open plan layout but it still needs to look right proportionately for the room. "I always advise customers to avoid buying a dining table that may be too large for their space, not only will it look terrible but you will be forever bumping into it and getting frustrated. We have a wide range of tables in sizes from 122cm to 183cm long, and if there isn't a standard size which is exactly right we can even build a dining table to your exact measurements", says Adam.
"Our Island Breeze and Oxford dining tables have a beautiful solid oak butterfly leaf which folds from the centre and gives a really useful extension. A point worth noting is to always be wary of an extending table with a small extension leaf, unless extending the table gives you the chance to seat more people what's the point?" comments Adam.
This really comes down to personal choice and both options offer different benefits. Whilst chairs are perhaps the more traditional and supportive option, benches do offer more flexible seating as you may be able to squeeze more people around the table. Whilst both can be painted to match in with the colour of the table, The Painted Furniture Company's chairs are also available with an upholstered seat in a choice of fabrics, as well as the oak option.

A new scientific study has uncovered just how abundant red berries are in vitamins and phenolic compounds reducing the risks for a range of health conditions including: obesity, diabetes, cataracts, various types of cancer, heart disease, stroke and hypertension.
Last year Brits bought over 87,000 tonnes of British strawberries. With increasing innovation in growing techniques and investment in new varieties the UK is now self-sufficient in strawberries from May to late October.

New Science Study Finds Benefits Of Red Fruit...
• Red fruits, especially small berry fruits are abundant in vitamins and phenolic compounds which are renowned for their health benefits.
A new scientific paper published in the Foods[1] Journal has evaluated the nutritional composition and health benefits of ‘red’ fruits, focusing in on red berries – including strawberries and raspberries.

• Encouraging Brits to make snack swaps that help increase red berry intake could have an important role in the nation’s health says nutritionist Dr Emma Derbyshire.
Dr Emma Derbyshire, Public Health Nutritionist and adviser to British Berry Growers commented: “It is refreshing to read a new scientific publication that focuses solely on red fruits. These are interesting findings, adding to the nutrition domain and showing how making some simple daily swaps – like substituting fast or processed snacks for nutrient-dense berries could benefit health.”
Health Benefits
The paper has examined how red fruits are abundant in vitamins, carotenoids and phenolics which, in turn, have been associated with reduced risks for a range of health conditions including: obesity, diabetes, cataracts, various types of cancer, heart disease, stroke and hypertension.
The iconic soft fruit – which is now worth over £769 million to the British economy – was also found to provide magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, a range of polyphenols and some zinc, iron, and dietary fibre.

Strawberries – which were recently revealed as the nation’s favourite fruit in a poll of 2,000 Brits[2] – were noted for having particularly high antioxidant activity.
With the pandemic seeing a huge spike in pet owners, it’s no wonder so many Brits are putting their dogs first when it comes to their working lifestyle - and it shows just how important it is that businesses move with the times and offer more flexible ways of working.
• Research reveals boosting your mood (30%), reducing stress levels (26%) and leading a healthier lifestyle (17%) are the top benefits of working with dogs
Health 55
- Doggy day care, dog walking breaks and private veterinary care would sway workers to accept jobs
“We encourage squad members, when bringing their dogs in for the first time, to do so on a quiet day so they can get accustomed to the office. It's easy to forget sometimes that it can be overwhelming for the dogs and it's a better experience for everyone when they are comfortable, relaxed and at ease.
There are plenty of lifestyle benefits to owning a dog, including keeping you active, improving your mental health and providing you with a trusted companion, and it has been revealed that these benefits are now present in the workplace too. The pandemic saw a huge rise in young professionals becoming dog owners, canine carers and pet parents. New research by fresh dog food brand, Butternut Box, has revealed the overall benefits of working with dogs, with 30% saying it boosts their overall mood.
Uk Dog Owners Praise Office Dogs For Boosting Their Mood And Reducing Stress
More than 1 in 4 (26%) say their pet pooch helps to reduce their stress levels, while nearly 1 in 5 (17%) say it encourages them to have a much healthier lifestyle, including getting their steps in with a lunchtime walk. In addition, 13% of dog owners say working with their furry companion brings greater positivity into the workplace, as it boosts their office morale, while nearly 1 in 10 (8%) say it improves their job satisfaction.
It is clear pet owners are putting their dogs first when considering employment and in fact, 34% would even accept longer working hours and a further 18% would take a less senior position if it meant they could spend more time with their four-legged friend.
Claire Creedon, Head of People at Butternut Box says; “At Butternut, we love having dogs in the office. They remind us why we do what we do as a business. But dogs are also great at connecting people and help in building relationships across teams. Having them in the office creates a more relaxed and positive atmosphere - it's hard to feel stressed or overwhelmed when there are dogs doing dog things around you.
“For any business planning to switch up their policies to allow dogs in the office, it’s still important to do this in a safe and secure way. Our policy at Butternut Box stipulates that all dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, and each owner must complete a profile of their pet pooch so the rest of the team knows how to interact with them – this will help support both employees’ and dogs’ enjoyment of being in the office space.”

• 80% of dog owners would say yes to a job if they could bring their pet to the office
Interestingly, the research found that 67% of dog owners say they would be more likely to accept a new job if they could work from home with their pet pooch, while 61% say they’d be swayed if they could bring them into the office. A further 51% want to see benefit packages which include options such as paid for doggy day care or dog sitting services, as well as health options which extend to their pet with private veterinary care (43%). It also appears that puppy parents are keen to see pawternity leave as an office perk, as nearly 1 in 3 would be more likely to accept a job if they were given extra annual leave to bring their dog home.

Bird Dogs into your routine. As your core is needed throughout your entire workout, an ideal time to train your core is at the end of a workout so you don’t fatigue these muscles too early.
Pack The Protein
Whether you’ve set yourself a goal to develop a six-pack or you’re keen to maintain the one you’ve got, it can be a tough challenge. With so many elements to understand, from knowing your body’s needs, to managing expectations and carving out the time to meet your fitness requirements, it can be hard to know where to start.

Better Abs Shares Top Tips On The Best Way To Build
Keep At It
Gaining a six-pack takes a lot of determination, with many not seeing the desired results for up to a year. This is because you must maintain the balance between body fat and body muscle. It’s also important to understand that everybody is different, your abs can vary according to a range of factors including: genetics, diet and body fat
Focusing on your abs is essential to getting a six pack, however your abs are just one group of muscles in your core. Your core is made up of your internal and external obliques on the side, your lower back and deep muscles such as your transverse abdominis and pelvic floor. Together these muscles work to help provide posture, balance and improve performance. Only focusing on crunches may limit the results you see in not only your appearance but also your performance. Having a stronger core also decreases the risk of injury. If developing abs is your main goal, allocate specific days for abdominal training to make sure you are hitting your target. However, if you just want to improve your overall core strength and stability incorporate exercises such as planks, side planks, hanging knee lifts, Russian Twists and

Expert tips on the best ways to build better abs
Get Technical
As we all know, it’s important to fuel our bodies when doing any form of exercise. When it comes to building muscle, swapping a few carbs or fat for extra protein is a huge help. With our muscles tearing slightly during exercise, protein is a vital part of the body’s recovery process, with amino acids helping to repair muscles, allowing them to grow. However, many can get fixated on packing in too much protein and struggle to see the desired change in definition. Maintaining a balanced diet, while also mixing up your dinner plate with lean proteins, such as pulses and white fish, allows your body to get the protein it needs with less fat – which is ideal for toning and sculpting. Also, don’t banish all carbohydrates - complex carbs such as wholegrains and veggies are essential for keeping your body fuelled, allowing you to reach your goals quicker.
So, if you want to start building strong abs and strengthen your core but you’re not too sure where to begin, Dean Zwech, Product Development Manager at Total Fitness, has shared his step by step guide on the most effective way to build up your core.
Don’t Ditch the Cardio
disheartened if you’re not seeing the results you anticipated straight away, you’ve just got to keep striving - the dedication you put into your health through fitness will show over time.
It’s a common misconception that when trying to form abs you should only focus on gaining muscle, whether through deadlifts or crunches. These are great to incorporate into your ab training sessions to build up your core strength, however, combining cardio into every workout is a must. Cardio is crucial for burning fat which is a key element in getting the defined look we all know as a six-pack. So, next time you’re at the gym, put the weights down for a while and get your heart racing with the rowing machine. It not only gives your body a full workout, but it also helps to maintain core control, allowing you to give your body the balanced exercise it needs.
So, if you’re setting out on your ab journey, it’s important to develop your fitness routine, making sure you take your time to perfect a schedule that fits your abdominal needs. With hard work and persistence, you’ll be able to reach your goals at a steady pace and still include everyday exercises to keep your fitness journey on track.

I awoke with a start. Drenched in cold fear it took a splash of water and a shake of the head before the phantoms of the night evaporated. I had a motoring correspondent's worst nightmare. A vision of roads even more pock-marked with potholes, polluted with overhead gantries and overhead cameras and robots behind every corner ready to pounce with an 'on-the-spot' fine. Truly a vision of hell.
Where would it all end? I mused. Would my nightmare of the previous night transform into a heaven of expectation?

rigid chassis, low centre of gravity and lack of surplus weight made for a driver pleasing spell of hustling along. That is until numerous temporary traffic lights impaired progress. As the red-eyed dragons brought everything to a halt in the interests of growing sluggishly moving tails that stretched back a mile or more, I simply listened to Wagner's RING Cycle on the sound system while in comfort. I told myself that no traffic light delay would ever outlast that.
Before I knew it I was near Stratford and - inspired by my proximity to the Bard - composed a sonnet to the RAV4 Black Edition. It struck me as I climbed onto the electrically adjustable and heated seat, pressed the button to start and cruised down the road, that I was behind the wheel of an exceedingly versatile vehicle, embodying all the savvy and nous of the style-conscious urbanist and yet I was in a vehicle as appropriate for a point-to-point meeting as a pair of green wellies. And if you're the sort prepared to risk the sand flies, there's a touch of the Indiana Jones about it as well if you twist into 'trail mode'. 'Trail' I hasten to add, for it is not meant to conquer continents, climb mountains and survive swamps like its world beating big brother the Highlander. sympathy and deliverance one might associate with the staff at DOUBTNOT ABBEY. This is because it draws its power from twin sources. It is a petrol/electric hybrid - not that you'd know it. There's no clunky transitional intervals, no panic perusing of the battery charge levels: no worries of any kind. What you do notice is delightful fuel economy of the new 4 cylinder 2.5 litre, non-turbo (less to go wrong!) petrol engine - with the bonus of emission free city driving, assured via a self charging system that simply gets on with the job. This means you can ride the range with your eyes on the horizon and not on the battery charge level. You get nearly 50 mpg from the punchy combination. A hefty total system output of 222 bhp ensures that the RAV4 copes with all demands from towing trailers to attacking off-road trails to high speed runs up to about 112mph.
