e Review

Drapers Hall Restaurant by Eileen Callear

You know you are about to experience something extra special just by walking into the historic Drapers Hall Restaurant, a former guild hall dating back to 1576. Located in St Mary’s Place, it is a lovely place to enjoy an evening of wining and dining. ere is a laid back attitude and a feeling that you have taken a step back in time, until you enter the bar where you have large modern paintings added to the mix, bringing together a carefully considered combination of old and new. e long dining table which King Edward IV dined at takes centre stage, it is surrounded by oak panelled walls and mixed with a twist of modern style in the form of various paintings dotted around, and an imposing stone fireplace; it’s impressive. If a table could tell its story – this one would be worth hearing. My colleague Luke and I were shown to a seat in the bar area, sinking into the pair of sumptuous leather armchairs, we ordered some drinks. I snapped up an espresso martini, and Luke had a soft drink as he was the designated driver for the evening. We browsed the fine dining menu whilst we chatted about our day. On offer is some of the finest British produce including local, organic meats, wild local game, seasonal fish and shellfish from North Wales.

Drapers Hall has so much going for it, and should be the go to place for any discerning diner. Head Chef Richard Nair, created some of the best food we’ve ever eaten, and he has also recently crafted an exciting tasting menu to showcase the very best Drapers has to offer.

10 Eating Out

After some deliberations Luke opted for Pan Seared King Scallops; Braised octopus, fennel and douglas fir velouté, pickled beetroot to start, and Dry Aged Aberdeen Angus Steak; 10oz Ribeye (dry aged on Himalayan rock salt) served with Shropshire blue bonbon, roast onion and skin on beef dripping chips with peppercorn sauce for his main course. I was feeling game, so I decided on the Stuffed Loin Of Rabbit; Confit leg wonton, tarragon, apple, pickled golden raisin to start and Fillet Of Aged Beef; Pomme Anna, black garlic , smoked bone marrow, pickled walnut, leek. We were guided to a slightly elevated corner table, next to the window. Service was impressive; relaxed yet attentive, which I like. It was mid-week so not the busiest of evenings, but there were a number a guests including a 21st birthday celebration. We were brought two beetroot and poppy seed bread rolls, and a pat of butter with a dash of truffle oil, and an extra special

Drapers_Double Page Editorial 07/06/2019 17:55 Page 2

treat with caviar and walnuts which gave us a good idea about what was to follow. e scallops and octopus were a delight, beautifully golden from sizzling in butter for just the right amount of time and the centre retaining that barely cooked translucency that you would expect from the perfect scallop. e rabbit was impressive, with robust flavour and a burst of sweetness from the apple and pickled raisins – plates were emptied. e mains were impressive. e Angus was tender and succulent, with elegant and subtle flavour and the chips were in a league of their own. e fillet was luxurious, the smoked bone marrow was very pleasant, as were the fried leeks and Pomme Anna and the rich jus was wonderful; a good dish. Reduced portion sizes normally come hand in hand with dishes of this quality, but this is not the case at Drapers, portions are generous and because of this we decided to share a dessert. Passion Fruit Soufflé with white chocolate sauce, white chocolate ice cream, a stunning dessert, light as a feather and so good it tasted like a gift from the gods; it was enjoyed thoroughly. Drapers Hall has so much going for it, and should be the go to place for any discerning diner. Head Chef Richard Nair, created some of the best food we’ve ever eaten, and he has also recently crafted an exciting tasting menu to showcase the very best Drapers has to offer. He certainly put on a solid performance, producing some impressive dishes on this particular evening. e fine dining option is available from Monday to Sunday in the Hall and a new fast, casual dining menu is also available Monday to Friday from 5pm in the Bar and Buttery.

e Review

Istanbul Restaurant & BBQ House by Luke Smith

Food is a passion for me. Fortunately I often have the opportunity to indulge my love of the finer things in life, whilst ‘working’; I know it’s a hard life! One of these opportunities presented itself, when we were invited to review Istanbul Restaurant, Steak & BBQ House, which is located in the beating heart of Shrewsbury, opposite the very popular eatre Severn in Frankwell. I went along with my colleague Stephan for the evening and we were very much looking forward to sampling some great food, and of course a glass of wine or two. ey have made some changes since we were there previously, as it was known as Steak & Grill Mediterranean Restaurant when I last went. Huseyin Yenivci was a co-owner originally, but now owns the restaurant completely, meaning you can be assured that the food served will still be of the highest quality.

As we entered we were warmly greeted by our waitress for the evening and shown to our table. A friendly and warm welcome always helps to put you at ease and you are pretty much guaranteed one here. We were handed the menus to browse through, but to start things off we ordered some drinks. ere is an extensive drinks menu on offer, I had a diet coke as I was driving, but Stephan treated himself to a large Pinot Grigio, a light and aromatic wine – one of his favourites. e food menus are impressive and equally as extensive, with around 70 dishes on offer you shouldn’t struggle to find something to suit your tastes.

e charcoal grill makes all the difference when it comes to flavour and there is something primordial about cooking with flames. It was easily the best mixed grill I have had the pleasure of devouring.

12 Eating Out

For starters I decided to go for my favourite - Kalamar (Calamari); Battered squid fish rings, deep fried with tartar sauce. Stephan opted for Lamb Borek; Filo pastry filled with minced lamb, onion, mixed peppers, parsley and deep fried. Whilst we waited for them to arrive we were treated to some warm bread, accompanied by olives and some dips, which was delicious. Our starters arrived soon after and we were very impressed; the aromas of the food were phenomenal and the presentation of the food itself was very good. e calamari was cooked excellently; crispy coating and tender squid. e salad and tartar sauce accompanying it rounded the dish off perfectly. Stephan was impressed with the abundance of flavours and was really pleasantly surprised.

Istanbul_Double Page Editorial 20/06/2019 16:57 Page 2

For our main course Stephan ordered the Istanbul Special Rib Eye; Rib eye steak, cooked on the charcoal grill, topped with sundried tomato, artichoke & mushroom sauce, served with chips and salad. I decided to try the Karisik Izgara (Mixed Grill) which is one for the meat lovers; 1 skewer each of Adana, Lamb and Chicken, plus 4 chicken wings, all cooked on the charcoal grill and served with rice and salad. Stephan normally prefers fillet steak, and was unsure if the ribeye would live up to his expectations, but as he took his first bite he was relieved to find it was delightful. e rib-eye was oozing with flavour, juicy and cooked to his exact requirements and the chips were great too; a complete success from start to finish. My main course was for me a match made in heaven. I always have meat with my main course and this once again didn’t disappoint. e charcoal grill makes all the difference when it comes to flavour and there is something primordial about cooking with flames. It was easily the best mixed grill I have had the pleasure of devouring; truly sensational.

On to our favourite course – Dessert. Although we were pretty stuffed, we can never turn down a dessert. I decided to try the Belgian Chocolate Bombe; a mouth-watering white chocolate dairy cream, with chocolate and toffee sponge, and covered in real Belgian chocolate. Stephan decided to go with the Toffee Twilight; a combination of dairy toffee and vanilla ice creams swirled with toffee sauce & topped with toffee pieces. ey were sublime and the perfect way to finish off a top class meal. Huseyin continuously strives to make this, the only Turkish restaurant in town, one of the best restaurants in the whole of Shrewsbury and beyond. e welcome is warm, the food is superb and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.

LET’S GO! Big Summer Family Activity Guide Every Wednesday in August WOODLAND ADVENTURES Summer Family Woodland Adventures Meeting at Coalbrookdale Community Centre, Wellington Road, TF8 7DX. Get your little ones out in the summer exploring local woodlands and meadows with Severn Gorge Countryside Trust and Sarah Bates. 7 August - Marvellous Beasts and where to find them, 14 August - Den Building, 21 August - The Gruffalo & 28 August - Teddy Bear's Picnic. Bring a snack and wellington boots to explore the local woodlands.

Hip hip hooray! It’s the Summer Holidays! I know for a lot of parents the thought of 6 weeks with no school and the thought of keeping the ideas flowing on how to keep the kids occupied fills them with a little bit of dread. Luckily Shropshire has lots of attractions and activities, from sports and leisure to arts and education - there is literally something for everyone. Hoo Farm in Telford has everything from sheep to big cats - it’s a great day out for the whole family. The Edge Adventure in Much Wenlock has loads to offer including Segways, quad biking, archery, climbing wall and zip-line to name just a few! Hours of fun. If you fancy slowing down the pace, cast off and leave your cares behind with a boating break from ABC Boat Hire. See our beautiful countryside from a whole new perspective, sit back and relax as it drifts on by - perfect! Some of my favourite days out include a day at the beach at Black Rock Sands near Porthmadog or good old Barmouth, an afternoon at the award winning Telford Town Park, a drive over the Long Mynd in Church Stretton and a good old walk up the Wrekin - all of which are FREE! So when the kids ask that inevitable question ‘What are we doing today?’ you will never be short of options.

LET’S EAT. Garlic & Chilli Prawn Skewers row some prawns on the barbie this summer, with these super simple, super tasty garlic and chili prawns skewers...

P

rawns are one of my favourite things to cook on the barbecue. Here we have a simple recipe for plump and juicy marinated prawns for you to try. This is perfect for summer, served with rice and fresh salad and not forgetting some home-made Aioli.

1. Place the garlic, chilli, oil, lime juice, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl and whisk until well combined. Add the prawns and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2. Heat the barbecue grill to high. Remove prawns from marinade and thread onto metal or bamboo skewers. If you are using bamboo, make sure you soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes before threading the prawns on, to prevent burning whilst cooking. 3. Grill the prawn skewers for a couple of minutes on each side or until prawns are cooked through and golden. Serve with rice, salad, lime wedges and some of this tasty home-made garlic aioli.

TO MAKE THE HOME-MADE AIOLI... 1. Crush up the garlic with a teaspoon of salt, using a pestle and mortar if you have one, or if not you can just use the end of a rolling pin and a bowl instead.

e Ingredients For the skewers... 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped 1 long red chilli, finely chopped 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 teaspoons lime juice Salt and cracked black pepper 750g raw king prawns, peeled, deveined, with tails Lime wedges, to serve Salt flakes, to season Metal or bamboo skewers

For the Aioli... ½ small clove garlic , peeled 1 large free-range egg yolk 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 285 ml extra virgin olive oil 285 ml olive oil Lemon juice , to taste.

2. Place the egg yolk and mustard in a separate bowl and mix together with a whisk. Begin adding your oils a little bit at a time and once you have mixed in about a quarter of the oil, you can add the rest in larger amounts. When the mixture has thickened, you can go ahead and mix in the lemon juice.

3. Once all the oil has gone, add the garlic and finish off by seasoning to taste with salt, pepper and a bit more lemon juice, if you like.

Ariana Grande ‘Sweetener’ World Tour 14 & 15 September 2019, Arena Birmingham Russell Howard added a second date at Resorts World Arena, Birmingham on 18 September to meet the demand for his upcoming Respite world tour.

A

With her powerful vocals and astonishing range, Ariana Grande has emerged as one of the most magnetic and massively successful performers in pop music today. At age 25 she’s delivered three platinum-selling albums and surpassed 18 billion streams, in addition to nabbing four Grammy Award nominations and landing eight hits in the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With 2016’s critically acclaimed Dangerous Woman, Grande both boldly defies expectation and reveals the full force of her voice (recently hailed as an “extraordinary, versatile, limitless instrument” upon Grande’s appearance on Time’s “100 Most Influential People” list). Since making her full-length debut with 2013’s Yours Truly (featuring the game-changing, tripleplatinum smash “e Way”), Grande has brought her striking vocal presence to a genre-blurring breed of pop, taking on R&B, soul, and electronic music with equal nuance and assurance. Arriving in 2014, her sophomore effort, My Everything, garnered a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album and spawned the 6x-platinum hits “Problem” and “Bang Bang” (a Grammy nominee for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance). Grande embraced a more uncompromising vision than ever before in the making of Dangerous Woman. With People noting that the album “celebrates feminine might,” Entertainment Weekly praised Grande for “having something meaningful to say with that jawdropping voice — one of the most exquisite in pop today.” Grande wrapped up her widely lauded

Dangerous Woman Tour in support of the album last year, performing 85 arena shows worldwide. rough the years, the longtime actress and former Broadway star has proven the scope of her talent by appearing on Scream Queens and Hairspray Live! and showcased her comedic chops by hosting Saturday Night Live. With her social media following now surging past 200 million, Grande has also earned numerous accolades from the MTV Video Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and American Music Awards (including the highly coveted Artist of the Year prize). Ariana’s recent single “No Tears Left To Cry” debuted at #1 on iTunes in 88 countries worldwide and began the next era for her upcoming fourth full length studio album Sweetener. With the release of “Not Tears Left To Cry” she became the first artist in music history to see the lead single from her first four albums debut on the Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100. is year she has graced the prestigious magazine covers of TIME’s Next Generation Leaders, FADER, and British Vogue. e highly anticipated album, Sweetener, was released in August 2018 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. Why Electric Heating Shouldn’t Be e Last ing On Your Mind is Summer. North West Heating Solutions Talk about the importance of well specified electric heating.

For More information about Electric Heating contact North West Heating Solutions and speak to Emily Or Sam. 01244 371445.

Our ELKAtherm electric heating have long been a popular replacement for old night storage heating and ineffective panel heaters, giving our customers comfortable and controllable warmth in their homes. In recent years we have started to see a shift in our business as the national grid becomes greener more and more people look towards renewable energy. We have seen a significant increase in people with Gas and Oil look for electric alternatives as a viable way to heat their homes. With this shift, the electric heating market has rapidly expanded with an array of products it can be confusing for the consumer.

Just like a car, often the way you use your heating system can make a big difference to its efficiencies and running cost which is why it is very important to ensure your electric heating system is correctly specified. There are lots of factors that impact the heating required in a room more than just the size of the room. Electric heating is different to the traditional Gas systems we see in this country, it offers some great benefits like no servicing costs or maintenance. The modular nature of electric heating allows you to control each and every part of your home maximising efficiency you can achieve from the system.

Things like radiator position, building glazing and insulation room usage and personal comfort levels all effect what heating should be installed.

Floral Button Front Top and High Waist Denim Shorts - Matalan

Floral Playsuit, Salmon Pink Denim Jacket and Coral Pink Floaty Shorts- All From Matalan

A Short

GET SHORTY...

STORY

Sticky summer days can prove a challenge when it comes to feeling cool and comfortable throughout the day. Shorts are a great option for showing a little bit of skin whilst keeping cool, plus if you pick the right length they can help avoid that uncomfortable inner thigh chafe that many of us have endured at one time or another. There are shorts for every occasion, from a day at the beach to a day at the office - even a wedding. We have put together a selection of just a few of our favourites for this summer.

CULOTTES...

If shorts are a definite no-no for you then how about trying culottes instead? When it comes to pulling off culottes, it is essential to balance them out with the right top. A more fitted top will balance out the extra width from the culottes, so avoid anything too bulky. Culottes can make you look shorter and wider, so it’s important to get the right length for you. They need to sit a few inches above your ankle. Try to avoid bunching at the waist or big pockets, instead opt for something streamlined at the waist and sides.

Book Worms... 'Unlock Your Maximum Weight Loss Potential' New Book Empowers Readers to Become their Own erapist and Keep off the Weight – for Life!

Having lost 5 stone and kept it off for two years, Ann Parker knows that triumphing over weight issues isn’t as simple as flicking a switch. In fact, Parker fully sympathises with and relates to the 90% of dieters who reverse their weight loss, seemingly as easy as just looking at food.

These personal experiences, along with her professional training as an NLP and EFT therapist, inspired Parker to release her own weight loss self-help book unlike anything else on the shelves. There’s no hype and just results, in ‘Unlock Your Maximum Weight Loss Potential: You Are Never Overweight for the Reason You Think You Are! Find Out How to Identify the Real Reasons You Can't Lose Weight and Be Slim for Life!’.

Synopsis: Do you struggle with your weight? Have you spent a fortune on diets and shakes? Has anything worked long term for your weight? Have you lost a lot of weight only to put it back on again? Do you put on weight just by looking at food? Are you an emotional eater? Do you sabotage your weight?

This amazing book, which is packed full of information, techniques and help so that you can become your own therapist and you can then take control of your weight FOR LIFE and feel amazing! It is based on years of research and I have tried everything on myself as I was 12lb when I was born and have struggled all my life. I have now lost 5 stone and have kept it off for over two years.

Why is my book different from other weight loss books?

Most other weight loss books (and I have read so many!) usually concentrate on a couple of issues – eating a specific diet, doing a particular type of exercise or breathing technique. But if you have a weight problem it is so much more complicated than that. Some people can go on a diet and lose weight – some people struggle all their lives and these are the people that my book is aimed at – and there are thousands of these people.

My book covers all the mainstream weight loss information like eating, exercise, setting goals, dealing with stress and health and nutrition – after all you need to be in tip top condition in mind, body and soul! A sample of other subjects covered: Uncover the real reasons why you can’t lose weight, keep it off and then sabotage yourself.

Understand why your weight problem is not your fault and if you overeat, it is not your fault either!

40 Features | Book Worms

By Ann Parker

Find out why your ancestors, genes and body type affects your weight and how to reset them for weight loss.

Read over 45 pages packed full of reasons why you can’t lose weight – and they really are fascinating!

Understand how intolerances, allergies, medication and medical conditions can cause weight gain.

Identify your best eating and exercise plan for life and understand why you need to know about calories, despite what other people say

How to learn how to write weight loss goals then put them into action and become your own life coach How to identify and eliminate trauma, blocks, fears, negative patterns, programs and beliefs and replace with positive ones so you can release ‘your protection’ which is your weight How to increase your self confidence, worth, value and esteem and be happy at whatever weight you are Find out why STRESS is an important factor in putting on weight and then making it impossible to lose Learn how to breathe properly to increase your metabolism Learn how to use Mindful Meditation to calm your mind and release negative thoughts Learn about other techniques and treatments that really work for well being and weight loss so you can save money on expensive sessions

And if you are ‘up for it’, have some fun and learn how to cast a spell for weight loss!

“I wanted to create something for those who have exhausted all of the other weight loss books out there, but still aren’t seeing results,” explains the author. “We help readers trace their lives back as far as they can to try and discover the real reasons they’re struggling with their weight, and then turn them into actionable steps that will help people become thin, healthy and keep the weight off for life.”

Continuing, “This holistic approach is so much more successful than telling someone to simply “not eat this” or “run on that treadmill for 30 minutes a day”. It requires a complete lifestyle and mindset shift that, when committed to, really is easy and yields results beyond belief.”

With the volume’s demand increasing, interested readers are urged to secure their copies without delay.

How to choose the ideal table for a small dining space ...

By Rebecca Snowden Interior Style Advisor at Furniture Choice its ability to lengthen and transform a space for parties and gatherings. “Extending tables are popular picks for most homes, but they’re extremely crucial in smaller homes and apartments,” Rebecca says. “These centrepieces are ideal for big gatherings, and can be kept to their original, compact shape for everyday use.” “There’s a variety of extending styles to choose from, but it’s important to invest in one that works best in tight spaces. Butterfly leaf tables extend quickly and efficiently, and folds neatly under the table when not in use. Depending on budget and room size, there’s a table for every room – think classic, rectangular tables to practical round centrepieces that lengthens out for dinner parties.”

For homes without a dedicated dining area, working around a tight space for daily meals and entertaining can be a challenge. However, making smart furniture choices can easily turn a small dining space into a chic, comfortable focal point in the home. Rebecca Snowden, Interior Style Advisor at Furniture Choice, shares 3 helpful tips on choosing a table that works well in small dining spaces.

1. Pick the right table shape and style The heart of the home is where people come together for meals and conversations, so choosing a suitable dining table is vital, especially when space is at a premium. “Consider the room layout and obstacles before making a new purchase,” Rebecca advises. “The shape and design of a table might affect how it fits around the room, along with the number of chairs it can accommodate. Round tables are great for tight spaces, and their rounded edges reduce the risk of accidents for a more family-friendly home. Pedestal tables are also excellent space-savers; the central base frees up more legroom while also maximising floor space.”

“When it comes to style, the possibilities are truly endless. A rustic table in walnut or grey wood lends a comforting presence and can be paired with practical wooden chairs, or styled along a chic, bistro-feel with comfy fabric seats. Or, for a modern take – glass tables are perfect for that extra oomph. These tables score big on style with different silhouettes and materials, from polished steel legs to statement wooden pedestals.”

2. Opt for an extending table Small dining spaces will benefit from an extending table – the winning formula is

3. Choose a table that can multitask Styling around a compact dining space also means investing in furniture that pulls double duty. “It all comes down to strategic planning and shopping smart,” Rebecca says. “Think about how the table will be used at home and where it’ll be placed, without throwing the rest of the space off-balance. Look for a sturdy centrepiece that multitasks as a handy kitchen counter, dining area or comfortable workspace. If smaller tables are the go-to here, opt for lighter builds that can be moved against a wall when not in use, freeing up valuable floor space.”

Better Living Outdoors Edit - page 68 telford_Double Page Editorial 17/06/2019 09:51 Page 1

Better Living Outdoors was started in 2016 after both directors bought their own spas to relax and enjoy with their families. Actually seeing and feeling the benefits of using their own Hot Tub’s, Philip and William decided to create the Better Living Outdoors brand of spas. eir first showroom was opened in County Durham and last year Better Living Outdoors sold over 200 Hot Tubs.

Hot Tub

eir Fully Trained installation team deliver all their Hot Tubs nationwide, so even if you are just holidaying in the area, Better Living Outdoors can help. Should you be in the Letting market, they can also offer a full range of HSG282 compliant holiday let spas to cater for your customer’s needs.

1. Reason: What are your reasons for buying a spa e.g. relaxation, pain relief, party and socialising or family time? Once you know the reason for owning a spa you’ll be better able to answer the next few steps.

In December 2018, Philip & William decided to expand into Shrewsbury and opened their new showroom on Battlefield Industrial Estate. Geoff Lewis is their branch manager and he looks forward to welcoming you in to browse their range of spas.

Beginners Buyers Guide...

2. Right spa for you: Do you need a 6 person spa if your a household of 2-4 people? If your reason for getting a spa is for socialising or summer garden parties you’re probably going to want a higher seating capacity. Pick a spa that best fits your needs. 3. Features: If for example you’re buying a spa for pain relief and hydrotherapy massage then look for jet configuration and pump HP (horsepower). If it’s for family time, then look for the music system, water features etc... to keep the family entertained. 4. Company: Are you buying local or online, is the company you’re buying from credible? Do they adhere to industry standards? Do they have an office and a point of contact? Check out their reviews on Facebook, Google etc... 5. Location: Have you got a space in mind for your spa? Is it big enough? You’ll also need an electric supply available. ink about privacy or shelter - some people like a secluded spot, others like to be in the open sunshine or under the stars. 6. Budget: ere’s a spa to suit every budget, so why spend £1000s more than you need to on a spa that doesn’t suit your needs, or offers more than you require? 7. Feeling: Does it feel right? You know the expression “having a gut feeling about something” or “ It felt like the right choice” , you’ll be much happier with your purchase if you feel like you’ve made the right choice. Base your choice on the research you’ve done on the product and ensure the company you’re dealing with are honest and credible.

Surviving the Summer... Tips on coping with hay fever. Control (Nasal Spray) - this spray is a oncea-day spray and with 140 sprays at just £13.95 it should see you through the worst of things. It is available over the counter too, which is very handy.

AVOID ALCOHOL... Drinking alcohol is known to make the effects of pollen worse. This is due to it containing histamine - which is the very chemical which sets off our allergy symptoms. Avoiding alcohol can make quite a big difference when it comes to allergy symptoms, so ditch the drinks and stick to something softer or at least something low in alcohol during hay fever season.

With one in five people suffering with hay fever, it’s a very common problem. If you, like me, are one of them you will know just how miserable it can be. So knowing the ‘buzz’ about pollen and the treatments available, can help a lot. Symptoms of hay fever include:

• • • • • •

sneezing and coughing a runny or blocked nose itchy, red or watery eyes itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears loss of smell pain around your temples and forehead • headache • earache • feeling tired If you have asthma, you might also: • have a tight feeling in your chest • be short of breath • wheeze and cough BE PREPARED...

Like most allergies, there will be certain types of pollen that you are more allergic too, and knowing which pollen causes your hay fever can be a real benefit. Tree pollen

56 Health Edit

kicks in around March and sticks around until mid-May. Grass on the other hand hits around mid-May, through to July. Weed pollens tend to be about from the end of June, right through to the end of September. Knowing when you are likely to begin showing symptoms means you can be prepared and have treatments ready to tackle them before they strike.

CAN LOCAL HONEY HELP? It has long been thought that eating locally produced honey may help reduce your symptoms. There is no scientific evidence to back this theory up, but it is worth a shot - plus it tastes amazing! Swap out sugar in hot drinks for some local honey.

RUNNY NOSES... A runny nose can be a real pain. If you find your nose is itchy or runny - or both, is causing you problems, try an antiinflammatory steroid nasal spray. There are a few available but i have found Benacort’s Nasal Spray to be effective. It cost £10 and gives 120 sprays and gives lasting relief. On the other hand, congestion is also an issue (talk about can’t win!). For relief from congestion, sneezing and even runny noses, you could try Clarinaze Allergy

There's currently no cure for hay fever and you can't prevent it. But you can do things to ease your symptoms when the pollen count is high. From putting Vaseline

around your nostrils to trap pollen, to wearing wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen getting into your eyes, or even showering and changing your clothes after you've been outside to wash pollen off will all help. Keep windows and doors shut as much as possible and vacuum regularly and dust with a damp cloth.

Speak to your pharmacist about your hay fever symptoms, rather than heading straight to the doctors, as they can advise you on the best treatments for you, like antihistamine drops, tablets or nasal sprays, which will help with itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and runny noses.

“Driving along in the Audi Q3 I fancied I knew something of the sensations that great Thespians might experience when striding forth on the boards delivering dramatic verse that enraptures a mesmerised audience... To quote one of the Ancients - a dramatist I believe by trade - "Wonders are many and none is more wonderful than man". Hastily one should add that the term today must, of course, read 'humankind'. That is before replacing it altogether with the word 'Audi'. For, dear reader, I have just been driving a new Q3 and as far as I am concerned there is simply no drama to be had behind the Audi wheel but simply a breathtakingly wonderful demonstration of what a top modern motor manufacturer can deliver to todays lucky drivers. Were Sophocles himself alive today he would declare it a global tragedy were he to be denied ownership of such a splendid chariot. Forget for a moment if you will such overused labels as 'compact' and 'SUV' for there is truly no simple label to attach to a concept so thoroughly realised as the Audi Q3 - irrespective of the specification the purchaser might choose - and we mean, of course, the type and size of engine, the transmission and final drive, the trim levels and so on. He or she will enjoy without let or hindrance, a passport to driving pleasure unencumbered by any sense of compromise. This is truly a car for today and worthy of all the encomiums a great orator may sing from the very pinnacle of The Shard to shower down upon the awestruck multitudes below.

Audi Q3 S Line A new outward appearance makes a bold and assertive statement appropriate to the needs of todays highways. It denotes class, composure and the classic credentials of a car carrying the interlinking halos of the Audi badge. In a word, 'Respect'. No other driver will dare to disparage the presence and dignity of a top table contender in the list of all time greats. If the exterior carries conviction, then the luxurious cabin exudes quality amounting to an object lesson in combining functionality with comfort, sense with style and technology with taste. Few cars in this class can come close to emulating this Audi package. As far as I'm concerned this amounts to an abundance of peerless gifts all signed, sealed and

delivered to the advantage of driver and passengers. On the ÂŁ33,260 S specification you get such luxuries as electrically adjustable front sports seats, a top sound system and every adjunct to comfort and efficiency that you are likely to need. Driving along in the Audi Q3 I fancied I knew something of the sensations that great Thespians might experience when striding forth on the boards delivering dramatic verse that enraptures a mesmerised audience. Far fetched? Perhaps. But some experiences really do transcend the communicative power of words - but I'll try to tell it as it was. The impression was of smoothness, quality and competence. A taut 'chassis' and well set

suspension give dynamic ability that is top level. A well controlled ride and an ability to hustle through bends without being unsettled shouts 'engineering quality'. This 1.5 litre 150 PS petrol version mated to a seven speed automatic gearbox and driving through the front wheels, will take you to near 130 mph yet return between 37mpg and 38 mpg overall - and polluting nastiness is low at 133g/km. The realisation dawned that in the end what matters most is not litres nor inches, boot space nor rubber, kilometres nor carbon dioxide. What matters is entirely dependent on subjectivity. Audi Q3 buyers might ponder the options and mull over comparisons like mentally overstimulated meerkats but really

By Syd Taylor Motoring Reviewer what they are seeing is some sort of rational confirmation of what gut instinct tells them is right. In other words, it's right to want an Audi Q3 because... it's right to want an Audi Q3. So why is it right? Well, all you have to do is fill the car with family and friends, pets and parcels, suitcases and fuel and take to the road. Then you will discover exactly why the Audi Q3 is in fact a model for other manufacturers to attempt to emulate - even though such efforts, in the absence of that Audi badge, often teeter into vulgarity. Audi remains the class of the field and the Q3 the classiest SUV in its class.

Summer Motoring Tips Edit shrewsbury_Full Page Bleed New 14/06/2019 10:28 Page 1

Summer Motoring

Suer Motoring Problems... Common summer car problems to be aware of... BATTERY

Heat can affect the health of your battery, accelerating corrosion and damaging the battery. Check the terminals on your battery for corrosion and get our garage to check the battery levels. Replace the battery if neccessary.

DON’T RUN ON EMPTY

Keeping a full tank of fuel is always a wise move. You never know when an emergency may pop up and there is nothing worse than having to find a petrol station before being able to tend to it. On long journeys it can be easy to find yourself running on empty. Top up well before you hit the red, it is just not worth risking breaking down on the side of the road. It is worth noting that you should not fill the tank to the brim, especially on hot days as like most liquids fuel will expand. This could cause fuel to leak out of the filler neck or the breather.

Summer is here, thank goodness. As our thoughts turn to road trips and loading up the car with all of our summer essentials, we can sometimes forget to take care to inspect our vehicles and check that they are as ready for the open road as we are. AIR-CONDITIONING

We all know how unpleasant it can be travelling in a vehicle with no air-con. Lack of air, excessive sweating and the urge to stick your head out of the window for a little bit of respite from the heat - please don’t do that, for as tempting it may seem its really dangerous! A better solution is to test your AC and ensure it is working before setting out on your travels. Make sure the blower motor is functioning properly and that the fuses responsible for the fan speed are not faulty. If your AC is not as ice cold as it once was, you may need a charge or there could even be a leak. Get your garage to check it for you - they can usually sort out these thing quite easily. TIP: Don’t use the air-con continuously, instead switch it off when the car is cool enough, and back on as and when you need to and don’t use it when the windows or doors are open.

CRACKED WINDSCREENS

Many of us have experienced a cracked or chipped windshield. These minor defects can result in much bigger problems should your summer road trip take you down gravel country roads, as a fast moving chipping or stone hitting a damaged windshield can result in a more serious accident or even injury. If you have a chipped windscreen you should have it repaired as soon as possible (some insurances will cover you for damaged winscreens so check your policy). It may have to be replaced completely if the damage is too bad - either way it is better to be safe rather than sorry.

Motoring

We hope these little tips keep you on the go have a safe and happy summer on the roads!
