Spring: A lovely reminder of how beautiful change...
“
Spring begins on the Vernal Equinox, as the days start to lengthen, the weather is getting warmer, and the spring flowers grow faster and bloom. Animals awaken, and many have their babies. Baby birds hatch and learn to sing the morning chorus - It is the season of new beginnings, as the earth seems to come to life again, after a winter slumber. It is a beautiful season, with amazing sights, sounds and smells. Easter celebrations are just around the corner, with egg hunts and chocolate to enjoy. For me, spring lifts my spirits and revitalises me, ready for summer months ahead.”

A little taste of Italy La Lanterna, Shrewsbury www.la-lanterna.co.uk
La Lanterna, or if you translate it in to English ‘The Lantern’ is a small Italian Restaurant tucked away in The Old Vestry at the back of St. Julian’s Church, on Fish Street. This busy Italian restaurant is owned by Alfredo Pensa who took over in December 2014 from his brother, Riccardo Pensa who established the restaurant in January 1996. This traditional Italian restaurant offers a fine dining experience, serving you only the best quality food, with a warm Italian welcome. The setting is magnificent, with wooden beams and panelling. Memorabilia covers the walls and shelves with everything from Ferraris to paintings and flags galore. But as fabulous as it is, the decor wasn’t what we were there for. I had heard many great things about this restaurant, and I was really looking forward to trying out some of the dishes for myself.

I went along with my husband Stef on a Wednesday evening. We made our way in through the entrance and were greeted by the friendly waitress. Taking our seats, we were instantly made to feel right at home with the menus all ready for us to inspect. Stef was in the mood for a vino, so opted for his favourite Pinot Grigio and I had a diet Coke. The smell that was drifting from the kitchen was divine, and we knew we were in for a treat. I decided to go for the Cozze All'aglio; Greenlip mussels in garlic and wine sauce for starters and Stef opted for the Bruschetta Al Pomodoro - Two pieces of toasted garlic bread topped with chopped tomato, basil and red onion. They arrived really quickly and looked fabulous. Stef devoured his Bruschetta in no time, as did I with the Mussels. The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite. These authentic Italian dishes deserve

surprising as the restaurant was filling up fast. We always share our dishes, Stef cut a piece of steak off and smothered some sauce on for me carefully feeding it to me over the table and I reciprocated with some of my pasta. Again, these dishes were presented beautifully, and the flavours were equally as impressive. The steak was tender and juicy and the creamy sauce was divine - rich and tasty. My Tortelloni was amazing. The fresh pasta was stunning, with the creamy cheese. We rounded the night off with Vanilla Cheesecake and a Lemon Torte, both with a dash of fresh cream on the side, and both divine. I love a zesty dessert and this one had just the right amount of zing. A real treat for the taste buds. nothing less than the very best quality produce to do them justice. This is something that Alfredo never compromises on. The Mussels were perfect and the garlic and white wine sauce was full of flavour. What a great start to the evening. For the main course Stef had seen an 8oz Fillet Steak topped with Liver Pate in a creamy brandy and mushroom sauce, served with potatoes & vegetables Filetto Riccardo. I decided to try the Tortelloni. This Italian classic pasta dish, filled with Italian cheeses in a creamy garlic mushrooms and pesto sauce was just the ticket. Again, they arrived really quickly, which was

A family friendly dining experience
The Foresters Arms, Broseley www.forestersarmsbroseley.com
As we sort refuge from the wind and rain on a cool Friday evening we found ourselves warmly welcomed to The Foresters Arms in Broseley, which was recently taken over and given a new lease of life by two local families in July 2021, having already sampled a fabulous breakfast a few weeks prior I was enthusiastic to set my sights on the evening menu; myself and partner were not disappointed. The menu boasted an array of homely dishes and we were completely spoilt for choice. We were swiftly seated in the relaxed and inviting restaurant area. Starting with appetizers, my partner Mitchell was drawn in by the Deep fried crispy brie bites, red onion chutney with a rocket salad; while I couldn’t resist the Chilli pulled pork nachos topped with cheese. Mitchell devoured his appetizer giving it his seal of approval. My Chilli pulled pork nachos were amazing the pulled pork

melted in your mouth, accompanied by salted crisp nachos and jalapenos for that added kick. We all know that nachos are amazing but you could taste the effort put into this dish. Hats off to the chef! Our Appetizers geared us up for our main course. This is where it got tricky for me; as I wanted to try all of them. In the end I whittled it down to a choice between the Slow Braised Lamb Shank or Pan-seared Chicken wrapped in Bacon which came accompanied with Buttered New Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables & Classic Chasseur Sauce. The Pan-seared Chicken won and I had made the hardest choice of the evening. Mitchell’s choice was not a hard one to make, being a steak lover he instantly chose the 10oz Ribeye Steak with Confit Tomato, grilled Field Mushroom & Skin on Chips which came served with a choice between Brandy & Peppercorn or Blue Cheese Sauce. As our

Brownie with Coffee and Praline Ice Cream and Fresh Strawberries and I once I tucked in there was no guilt on my side for indulging, the brownie was rich and the coffee and praline ice cream really was the cherry on top giving such a satisfying ending to the meal. Mitchell picked out the Chocolate Caramel Shortbread with Carmel Ice Cream; a real treat with a biscuit base accompanied by strawberries the elements of this dish complimented one another leaving his sweet tooth more than satisfied.
mains arrived we couldn’t wait to dig in, my Pan-seared Chicken arrived perfectly presented and the chicken breast was succulent and juicy the chasseur sauce really brought the dish to life. Mitchell was equally impressed with his Ribeye steak served just as he had ordered it was tender and full of flavour coupled with confit tomato and field mushroom it was a real winner. The Foresters Arms really do know how to cook up hearty meals, we were left feeling full and content however; we could not resist pondering over the desserts menu. Having eyes bigger than our bellies I could not ignore the temptation of the Warm Chocolate
We proceeded to take Chloe our host up on the offer of the Friday nights live entertainment in the newly refurbished Willow room and ended our evening with a few cocktails whilst we socialised with other customers enjoying the food, alcohol and entertainment on offer including a juke box and pool table. Explore British Wildlife
3rd March 2022 is World Wildlife Day.which celebrates the wonderful variety of wildlife on our planet. This year the theme is ‘ Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration’. In the UK we have a fantastic variety of wildlife, trees and plants, and spring is a wonderful season in which to explore our natural environment. From the fragrant aroma of wild garlic and the budding www trees, to the morning chorus of birds, the .br British countryside awakens from the iti winter slumber in the spring months. So where are the best places to go to see our magnificent wildlife and how do we identify them? At the end of March, in ditches and other wet areas, you will find the small, delicate soft lilac blooms of the Cuckoo Flower, which is the main food source of the Orange-tip butterfly. Wherever you may be you will see the clusters of daffodils, with their yellow trumpet heads - they are always a cheery sight that remind you that warmer days are finally on the way.
Birdsong fills the airwaves in early spring, calling out for a mate. This hopeful and enthusiastic sound is probably at its strongest during March. Great Tits, arrive with the warmer days to join native blackbirds, song thrushes, robins and numerous others. The Brimstone Butterfly makes an early appearance in spring, as the warmer March days awaken them from hibernation. You should see them wandering over gardens and along woodland paths, or across meadows

Based on estimates, it is suggested that over a million species are threatened with extinction. Continued loss of species, habitats and ecosystems also threatens all life on Earth, including us. People everywhere rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet all our needs, from food, to fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing. Millions of people also rely on nature as the source of their livelihoods and economic opportunities.
in search of early flowers to feed from. Females are pale green and males are bright yellow, which provides excellent camouflage from birds as they blend with the new spring leaves. Their numbers are increasing as they spread northwards due to warmer forest in conditions - possibly linked to climate change. You will find Brimstone caterpillars feeding on Buckthorn and Alder Buckthorn before the emergence of the next generation in August. Badgers give birth in February, and after six weeks or so the cubs begin to venture further, exploring the sett and then outside once they feel more confident - generally around mid-April. This is the perfect time to go Badger-watching. Spring sees one of nature’s greatest wildlife spectacles with boxing March Hares. There are three types of Hare in the UK: Brown, Mountain and Irish Hares. The brown being the most common. You may see them on grasslands and farms, with Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and the Marlborough Downs in Wiltshire being strongholds for them. In the north of England and Scotland you will more commonly see white Hares. Hares are usually solitary animals but come spring time you can see females literally fighting off the males, standing on their hind legs and literally ‘boxing’ with their front paws. 20th March is World Frog Day, yet the first stirrings occur in the garden pond from mid Feb. Awakened from within the pond-bed mud, by the call to mate, with spawning happening overnight. You will see the spawn bubbles around the edge of the pond, with the adults nearby keeping an eye out. Then the magical transformation begins. We have numerous places to visit where we can enjoy connecting with nature, including several Local Nature Reserves, The Wrekin, Wenlock Edge, Long Mynd to name just a few.
Every animal, bird, insect, flower and tree plays a part in the Great British ecosystem. So this spring go out and enjoy our wonderful wildlife. It is the perfect time to really explore our beautiful countryside.

A Fresh Clean Home...
Dr. Beckmann Identifies The Top Tips For Freshening Up The Home This Spring - Plus A 12 Month
Cleaning Calendar. . Spring is a time for fresh starts and an even fresher home. Whether it’s tackling the growing pile of laundry, sorting out the kitchen cupboards or hoovering behind the sofa. Tackling the tasks that have been put off for months is the perfect way to welcome in the new season, and there is nothing more rewarding than the removal of stains from the carpet or the smell of fresh clean laundry. Last month, Dr. Beckmann polled 2000 of its customers to discover what methods they use to help de-stress and relax, with cleaning, meditation, exercise, reading a book and being intimate with a partner being the most popular. More than a quarter of participants (26%) said cleaning their homes is their go-to method to relive stress. Not only that, but the manufacturer of the UK’s number one Carpet Stain Remover also discovered that nine out of 10 Brits claim having an untidy or dirty home has a bearing on their mood, while a quarter say having an unkempt home can be detrimental to their productivity. Due to these findings, cleaning and laundry expert, Dr. Beckmann has created a month-by-month cleaning calendar to help the nation maintain a spotless home all year round.
12-month cleaning calendar
January - Declutter and De-stress
New year, new you - January is the perfect time of year to declutter! It will help provide a new focus and is also good for the mind, happiness, and overall mental well-being. Preparing a checklist and rota for household tasks is a good way of keeping track of everything that needs to be done. February - Bright whites
Kick start February by tackling through that growing pile of laundry. If it’s the whites that need washing, use the nation’s favourite specialist laundry whitener, Dr. Beckmann’s Glowhite or Glowhite ULTRA, to restore the freshness and leave your whites shining bright! March - Springtime spruce
With the warmer months on the horizon and the feeling of spring in the air, deep cleaning the home is the perfect way to reinforce a sense of positivity. Make sure to clean the top of kitchen cupboards, wardrobes, and bathroom cabinets to remove any hidden dust, then open the windows and let fresh air flow freely through the home. April - Neglected areas
Use April as an opportunity to visit neglected areas, such as lampshades, blinds, curtains, shelves, frames, bannisters and skirting boards. Some areas such as blinds and curtains are particularly important as dust mites can form, and research has shown they can pose health risks as bacteria and mould can attach and build.
48
Home Trends
May - Windows
With brighter mornings and lighter evenings, May is a great time to tackle the windows, as sunlight will show up even the tiniest of smudges on the glass. Save money and time by not leaving the glass left unwiped, the longer it’s left the harder it’ll be to clean.. June - Invisible areas
As the summer draws in, June is the time to rearrange the furniture to update your home ready for the potential hosting of barbeques. Target invisible areas such as space under the bed, sofas, wardrobes and cabinets. Getting behind, under and around will ensure every area of your home is spick and span. July - Tackle the outdoors
Take advantage of long summer nights and the warmer weather and spruce up your outdoor space, tidying the garage, clearing gutters and drains, or adding flowers to the garden can all make a big difference especially if you’re planning to host outdoor socials. August - Fab-loo-ous toilet treatment
Use August as the month to tackle the toilet with Dr. Beckmann’s Power-Foaming Toilet Cleaner. Watch as the foam fizzes up to a mountain of fresh cleaning fun! September - Detox
Time for an autumn clean, now the mayhem of summer activities is over its time to get your house prepped and ready as winter fast approaches. Do a deep clean of the bathroom and kitchen. Also, if you have a porch area for coats and shoes, make sure this is organised and smelling fresh. Don’t forget to give your garden some TLC before it goes into hibernation until next year. October- Floors
This is the best time for a deep clean of the carpet especially if you have pets, as hair and dirt will often be trodden deeper into the fibres of the carpet. If you’re one to decorate the house for Halloween, starting the clean early ensures that you are organised and feel more in control when the messiness arrives. It is also a good idea to keep Dr. Beckmann’s award-winning Carpet Stain Remover with integrated brush to hand for any scary accidents and spills that may happen on the 31st. November- Storage
Take the time to clear out the attic, basement, or ‘messy’ room if you have one ready for the festive holiday. When it comes to decorate the house for Christmas, starting the process in early November will help you feel organised and in control of your home so you know what decorations you already have and how much space there is for new purchases (and of course presents!). December- Appliances
Before the madness of Christmas hits, remember that as well as cleaning kitchen surfaces, the fridge and freezer need a deep clean, along with the washing machine, dishwasher and oven, ready for hosting duties and tasty treats. Dr. Beckmann recommends you use the Service-it range to ensure your appliances are well maintained and protected from limescale and bacteria build up. On the 12 month cleaning calendar, Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor said: “Getting your homes straight can be a mammoth task, so following the 12 month cleaning calendar will help people plan and organise their cleaning schedule month by month, ensuring your humble abode stays spick and span all year round.” Check out Dr. Beckmann’s product range to help spruce up your homes in 2022 here: https://www.dr-beckmann.co.uk/

Residents back plans
for general council tax freeze...
e d i s r u o y n o Still
“We believe that we will be the only council in the region, and one of only a few authorities in the country, to be freezing general council tax. We expect that our residents will have the lowest council tax bills in the midlands for the services that we provide, for the fifth consecutive year.”
Residents across Telford and Wrekin have thrown their support behind plans to freeze the general level of council tax in the borough for the next two years. The council’s budget proposals, which include plans to freeze general council tax for the next two years, were first announced in January. Since then a four-week public consultation period has been held, with the majority of feedback in favour of the proposals. At their meeting on Thursday 17 February, Cabinet reviewed this feedback and agreed to recommend the budget proposals for final approval at the Full Council meeting on Thursday 3 March.
Councillor Rae Evans, cabinet member for finance, governance and customer services, said: “We are fortunate that despite years of Government austerity, strong financial management at the council means that we are in a position to keep the level of council tax we charge to an absolute minimum and continue to invest in creating a better borough. “We will need to invest an extra £7m into adult social care by 2023/24 to protect and care for some of our most vulnerable people. The 1% adult social care precept, which will cost an average Telford and Wrekin house 21p per week, will contribute £0.76m towards this. “We are also committing over £35m to our roads, pavements and cycle paths to keep the borough moving, and extra £20m to Nuplace to build more than 400 high-quality new homes for a mix of market and affordable rent.” The budget proposals are now recommended for approval at the next Full Council Meeting, which takes place at The Place in Oakengates on Thursday 3 March at 6pm.
Councillor Shaun Davies, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “Our budget plans include proposals to freeze the level of general council tax for the next two years. Feedback has shown that people are overwhelmingly in favour of this, with 94% of people supporting the proposals. “This commitment will cost the council £4.6m over the next two years but with rising fuel, food and energy bills, we recognise the financial strain that many people are facing and we are on your side.”

Page 54 & 55 - Spring Health_Double Page Editorial 31/01/2022 14:53 Page 1
ealth pring H SCommon health issues
to look out for this Spring... Asthma can be triggered during spring months by all kinds of things; pollen, changes in temperature, insect repellents etc...It is important to talk to either your GP or Pharmacist if it really starts to bother you, as they can offer advice and help with controlling your symptoms.
Spring is usually a season we look forward to. It’s a fresh start after long, dark, cold winter days and nights, and it is also a time that we associate with new beginnings. The warmer weather is very welcome, and makes us want to spend more time outdoors. It can also help to revitalize us and improve the way we feel - lifting our spirits. However, it is also a time when many people can be affected by a few common health issues.
THE BAD BITS...
Spring allergies are probably one of the most common problems, causing misery and irritation - thanks to those pretty budding trees and plants that release pollen into the air. You can develop an allergy at any time. I started suffering with hay fever at the age of 45, normally around March time and it drives me around the bend, triggering asthma, sneezing and itchy eyes. This allergic reaction to pollen is one of the most common allergies in the UK, with statistics showing that one in five people will be affected at some time during their life. This is due to proteins in the pollen causing irritation, swelling and inflammation in the nose, eyes, throat and sinuses in people with hay fever. Generally anti-histamines do help (as well as an inhaler for the asthma), and I tend to find the cheap ones from Home Bargains, or Lidl do the trick just as well as the more well-known brands - which can be a lot more expensive. They can be taken from early spring onwards to minimise the risk of symptoms developing.
54 Health
Being outside more means we are more likely to encounter bugs and insects. Going out for walks, gardening, or even having a barbecue can be blighted by bites and stings. Repellents are available, but remember they can trigger other issues. Try to wear lightweight long sleeves and long trousers to give you a little bit of protection and be especially cautious when walking in the woods, or in long grass, as ticks can cause more serious health problems like Lyme’s disease. An obvious health concern during the warmer months is sunburn. Our spring season seems to be warming up, and it is important to ensure that you don’t overexpose your skin to UV rays - which can even happen on a cloudy day. A small amount of exposure can be good for us, helping with Vitamin D levels. But you should be very careful to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays from the sun. Always wear sunscreen when outdoors in the sun (even if it’s overcast) and reapply regularly. Spring colds are an odd thing, and after Covid-19 we are all extra careful to avoid anyone with symptoms. Plus we tend to wash our hands a lot now. Just remember to try not to touch your face - especially your eyes, nose and mouth. Spring is a peak time for the common cold, so keep washing your hands.
Page 54 & 55 - Spring Health_Double Page Editorial 31/01/2022 14:53 Page 2
GOODBYE DRY SKIN
THE GOOD BITS...
Talking of better skin - winter really can take a toll on your skin. The cold weather can cause dull, dry and flaky skin, so spring can be a welcome time for tired skin. Exfoliate regularly, moisturise with a light moisturiser and your skin will be glowing, ready for summer.
It isn’t all bad news though. There are lots of positives for your health in spring too. As i mentioned, a daily dose of sunlight can be a real boost, especially if you have been suffering from the winter blues. Gone are the gloomy days, and you can now look forward to bright sunshine filled days. Soak up a little Vitamin D and enjoy the great outdoors - it is a natural mood booster. Exercising outdoors is multiple times better than sweating indoors on a treadmill or exercise bike. Walking the dog, taking a morning jog, or maybe enjoying a heritage walk at the weekend - spring is the perfect time to improve your health and fitness by getting more active. Cold weather, dark nights and gloomy days all tend to feel a little depressing. Spring brings longer hours of daylight, fresh air and a touch of sunshine. Take time out in nature. Admire the greenery, and explosions of colour from daffodils and other spring flowers. Take a walk around the lake, or local nature reserve. All of these things can help you to experience instant relaxation and ease your stressed mind. Enjoy spring veggies, and salads, which are full of vitamins and minerals. Winter tends to be full of sugar, fats and carbs - so spring is a welcome ‘fresh start’ to healthier eating. Fill yourself with salad, vegetables and fruit and you will reap the benefits of weight loss, better skin and improved mood.

y a D s ' n e Wom IWD 2022 campaign theme: #BreakTheBias Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
CELEBRATING WOMEN EVERYWHERE... I wanted to take an opportunity to raise a glass, a rather large glass, filled to the top with wine of course, to International Women’s Day, which is on the 8th March 2022. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can break the bias in our communities. We can break the bias in our workplaces. We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities. Are you in? Will you actively call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotyping each time you see it? Will you help break the bias? Cross your arms to show solidarity.
Strike the IWD 2022 pose and share your #BreakTheBias image, video, resources, presentation or articles on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world. Together, we can all break the bias - on International Women's Day (IWD) and beyond. https://www.internationalwomensday.com/

THE GENDER GAP
The importance of levelling the playing field... by Cllr Eileen Callear
Right: Out campaigning in the Dawley & Aqueduct by-election. Above: With Cllr Rae Evans, one of my inspirational cabinet colleagues. Below: Laying Remebrance wreaths
I can’t say that I was ever really aware of the gender gap when I was growing up. Maybe because I was the youngest of four children, and I think my dad wanted a boy - so I obliged. I was more of a tomboy anyway. I loved shooting guns and bows and arrows, and days out walking through the woods, having camp fires. Those were the days!
The gender gap is a relative disparity between people of different genders, which is reflected in a variety of sectors in many societies. Differences still exist between men and women in many areas such as social, political, intellectual, cultural, scientific or economic attainments, and in attitudes. Even now, there is often still a gender pay gap, where men get paid more than a woman - even though they are doing the same role. If a woman gets emotional - for example when Theresa May stood down as PM, it’s down to her hormones, yet if a man does it’s because he is ‘passionate’ about the topic. Even Wikipedia has a gender gap, with more contributors being male, and relatively few biographies are about women, and topics that interest women are less well-covered.
My dad would always say that if someone else could do something, then so could I - it didn’t matter what sex you were. It was later on in life, when I read more about the gender gaps in so many areas of life that I really became aware of just how much of an issue there was. When I became a Councillor back in May 2019, I really just wanted to do a good job and make a difference to people if I could. I didn’t anticipate becoming a member of cabinet, but when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance. After all women make great leaders.
So why are women in leadership so important? Increasing female representation in leadership roles is a challenge for every sector of the economy in the modern world. Research studies indicate that women make better managers (Gallup 2015) but in a study of nearly 22,000 publicly traded organizations worldwide, 60% have NO female board members and globally women hold just 24% of senior leadership positions. Women as leaders, seek to improve economic, social and political progress for all. Better still, empowered women will bring improved outcomes and get results. I have met some amazing women, not just in the political forum of the council and cabinet - but in virtually every other part of my life too. As a woman in a leadership role, I will continue to help raise awareness of the gender gap, and to empower more females to enter leadership roles and help shape the world of work in a positive way.
Luckily for me the cabinet on Telford & Wrekin Council is balanced with 50% female members, but they are not all like that. We have a good balance, but there is always more work to do when it comes to diversity, equality and levelling the field.

One in 100 people are on the autism spectrum and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK. Autism is a spectrum condition and affects people in different ways. Like all people, autistic people have their own strengths and weaknesses. Symptoms of Autism include - Developmental learning delays, difficulty communicating, difficulty in social situations, attachment to particular interests, difficulty understanding emotions, over/under sensitivity to things like light, sound, touch or taste, repetitive behaviours, struggle with change, sleep problems and difficulty in controlling impulses. Autistic women and girls
More men and boys are currently diagnosed as autistic than women and girls. This is changing slowly but surely, as more women and girls are being diagnosed as autistic. Attitudes towards autism and gender are changing, although we still have a long way
to go. Many autistic women and girls are still struggling to get the support they need. Number of autistic people in mental health hospitals
The latest monthly Assuring Transformation NHS Digital data shows that in December 2021: In total 2,065 autistic people and people with learning disabilities are in inpatient mental health hospitals in England. 1,220 (59%) of these people are autistic. One in seven (14%) of these are autistic people under 18. This is the most up-to-date record of how many autistic people and people with learning disabilities, both adults and children, are currently in inpatient units in England. It also shows how long they have been in for when their care and treatment is checked and what kind of unit they are in. This data is important because it holds the Government to account on its continued commitments to reduce the number of people in these institutions. Despite some progress moving people with a learning disability out of hospital and into the community, the number of autistic people in inpatients facilities has increased. In 2015, autistic people made up 38% of the number in hospital, now it is 59%. Raise Money
The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people on the autism spectrum and their families. Since 1962, they have been providing support, guidance and advice, as well as campaigning for improved rights, services and opportunities to help create a society that works for autistic people. In these challenging times, there are still many ways you can help to create a society that works for autistic people. You can raise money safely and securely while maintaining social distancing - take a look at fundraising ideas including cycling, abseiling, running, walking and trekking and virtual ideas - to find out more visit: https://www.autism.org.uk/get-involved

The Basics
Model: Audi Q5 Sportback 45 TFSI Quattro 265 PS S-Line S Tronic. Price: from £55,235 Engine: 265PS 4 cylinder petrol engine Pictures: AUDI AG
Alexander The Great - or some such all-powerful titan - allegedly wept when told there were no more worlds to conquer. I know how he felt. I've just scaled the summit and tested probably the best car in it's class. In the great pantheon of motoring marvels one car now supersedes the competition in its radiant affirmation of sublime achievement. There are no more peaks to conquer, no more rivers to cross, no more Topless Towers in Troy to burn. The new Audi Q5 Sportback puts paid to aspiration. Own one of these and you know you have chosen the best. In my opinion, offerings from the likes of Peugeot, Citroen, Jeep and Vauxhall are mere shadows when compared to one of these. "Cor blimey guv'nor!" exclaimed the gentleman manning the gate at the Six Counties Show as he directed me to the car park. "I'd give a cartload of jellied eels for one of those." I laughed, tickled by his colourful patter and followed his directions across rough terrain and wet grass where other vehicles were struggling for traction. The 4wd with several drive modes made light work of the challenging surfaces. Everywhere eyes were glued to the Q5: eyes tinged, one fancies, with covetousness - for who wouldn't want to swap places with yours truly. I parked, shut off the 265PS 4 cylinder petrol engine and.....well, simply exhaled a long sigh of contentment. Had I succumbed to the sheer comfort of the all-embracing luxury of the irresistible interior I might have nodded off. It occured to me that only in dreams could one hope to surpass the Q5 Sportback experience. It had all kicked off early that morning at my Manor House. I'd just despatched the neighbourhood cockerell with a well-aimed week-old croissant when my manservant burst into the breakfast room.

Audi Q5 Sportback "The car's arrived." "Car?" I replied. "Car indeed Squire. In my opinion once you clap eyes on it's significant form you'll leave your fried bacon in the pan and take to the highway with adventure in your soul." "You don't say. This car I must see." And see I did. Picture if you will a dashingly styled SUV. Not a trace of vulgarity, no hint of crowd pleasing abrogation of taste - just the best design engineering wrapped in a sleek-skinned modern motor. Audi have taken the SUV concept a step further and added zest to the best, creating an SUV coupe for those who like their mustard sharp. It is sportier and more thrilling than the standard Q5 best seller, appealing to those adventurous in spirit. Remarkably the transformation is achieved at very little practical cost. Drivers of the
£55,235 Q5 Sportback hardly lose any luggage space. The coupes rear end is as accommodating as mine host at the Wheatsheaf. It serves you with a smile and an open palm. I checked the boot first to make sure I could carry all the rubbish to the tip - no problem there - dashed back inside to grab a few things and I was ready to go. But where to? "You could try The Six Counties Show" suggested my lackey.
humble brains like mine simply pay obeisance. There's a drivetrain mode for every eventuality and driving along in on-road mode the Sportback simply defies expectations. One gets blown away by the irresistible magnificence of combined performance and sophistication. Does it go like the wind? Well, when was the last time you saw the wind weep? Does it hold the road?
"Good call. Want to come with me?" "No. I've got to polish the brasses." So I took to the road like the free spirit that I am. What a drive! The Sportback comes fully loaded with all the best a modern car can provide. There's the Quattro all wheel drive system of course and the 7 speed S Tronic dual clutch auto box. You'd expect nothing less. And there's so much value-added technology that
By Syd Taylor Motoring Reviewer Are you kidding? It holds the road to ransom. It's Dick Turpin and Black Bess together. It stands, delivers and gallops away up to near 150mph yet I averaged between 37mpg and 40 mpg. And it's incomparably more comfortable than any saddle or stagecoach. Grab the Sportback by the reins and you won't want to let go: it's so addictive. So there I was at the Six Counties Show following a long drive and now relaxing in the cosseting seating, reluctant to exchange well sprung upholstery for springy turf. I climbed out and headed for the main arena. It was impossible not to think that I was leaving the main event behind.

EV equals more considerate_Full Page Bleed New 18/02/2022 12:03 Page 1

Electric Vehicle Owners Are Most ‘Considerate’ Drivers
c i r t c e l E o t h c t Swi Over two thirds (67 per cent) of EV drivers have completely changed their driving style since moving away from fossil fuels, now less aggressive with their accelerating and braking. This change in behaviour not only saves drivers money by reducing the frequency or length of battery charge required, but it also benefits the environment as less energy is used and wasted.
• Almost three quarters of electric vehicle (EV) owners believe they are now more considerate drivers since making the switch away from a petrol or diesel car • Over two-thirds of EV drivers have changed their driving styles to conserve energy and benefit the environment by further decarbonising • More than half of couples who drive an EV compete to be the most efficient driver Almost three quarters1 (73 per cent) of EV owners say they are more considerate drivers having made the switch to an electric car, new research from Love my EV reveals, the UK’s only dedicated EV and green energy comparison site. EV drivers are not only playing a vital role in reducing harmful emissions, but also making roads a safer and more pleasant place to be.
www.telfordlifestyle.co.uk
There is still a role for increased driver education, however, as almost nine per cent of EV drivers do not realise they can maximise each charge of their battery by driving less aggressively, reducing acceleration speed and using regenerative braking. Regenerative braking improves energy efficiency and extends the vehicle’s driving range. Eight in 10 (80 per cent) EV owners make use of regenerative braking, which turns wasted energy from braking into electricity to charge the battery and boost efficiency, with half (50 per cent) of these drivers doing so frequently. Driving efficiently in an EV appears to be contagious and research shows that couples are competing to maximise the mileage of their vehicle per kWh. More than half of all drivers admit they compete with a partner to be the most efficient driver, by either using the momentum of the vehicle to recharge their battery and/or paying more attention to the road in order to avoid harsh braking. Mat Thomson, co-founder of Love my EV, comments: “Electric vehicles offer incredible environmental benefits in terms of lower emissions, but it is great to hear that they could also be positively impacting driver behaviour. Avoiding harsh braking and excessive acceleration not only saves drivers money by maximising the number of miles they can drive on each full charge, but it also makes for a nicer environment for all road users.” “Higher efficiency per mile means the ‘all-in’ cost of driving an EV can be much lower than many people think. Love my EV matches people to an EV that is best suited to their unique needs, whilst also finding the best value and greenest home energy to power their car and home with.”

Toilet Training Puppy_Full Page Bleed New 03/12/2021 10:41 Page 1
Top Tips...
FOR TOILET TRAINING
Your Puppy.
A puppy is always a welcome addition to the family, but there is a lot to learn for both you and your puppy. One of things people find difficult when introducing a puppy to their home is toilet training. It can be hard and frustrating. But it is important to ensure you are patient and kind when training, as this will result in your puppy feeling confident about how to ‘go’...
Toilet training, like most other forms of training, is best done by rewarding good behaviours and ignoring bad behaviours. You are also in training, so learn to look out for the signs that your puppy needs to go which could include sniffing around, circling or lifting their tail. Start by taking them out every half an hour, as their bladders are tiny - and also after they eat or sleep. If they go to the toilet whilst they are outside, reward them and give them lots of praise.

Toilet Training Your Puppy...
Top Tips to Help You Along...
Remember They Have Tiny Bladders...
Remember puppies are babies; they have tiny bladders and cannot simply hold it in until you are ready. Up to about 10 weeks old, puppies will struggle to go even an hour between wees. Then as they get slightly older they tend to be able to do about an hour for each month (so a three month old puppy may be able to go for 3 hours etc...) and once they hit six months, they should be at their full capacity. Use Puppy Pads...
Use puppy pads at first, to give them somewhere to go rather than the floor. These are scented, so they encourage the puppy to go to the loo on them, so put them in the rooms your puppy is spending time in. Don’t React Badly...
If they get it wrong - don’t tell them off, or be angry. Just clean it up and keep calm. If you tell them off you are likely to scare them and they may hide from you to do it next time - under the bed or behind the couch. Use Enzymatic Cleaners...
When cleaning up an accident, use tissue paper to soak up the wee, and use a special cleaner with enzymes which will remove any odour. If you don’t, the puppy (or any other dogs in the house) may return to the same spot and repeat the mistake. You could use a puppy pad to mop up the wee and then place it down for the pup to smell next time they are looking to go. Take a Poo Bag on EVERY Walk...
When taking your puppy out on a walk, make sure you have poo bags with you, as no matter the size your dog, you can get an on-the-spot fine for letting them poo and you not picking it up. Lot’s of council’s have different rules - so check what your local council has in place. Many Town and Parish Council’s offer free dog poo bags, which you can pick up from their offices, or community centres. Remember, it is important be patient, reward good behaviour and ignore bad. Your puppy will soon be doing the business outside
