It’s all about excellence at e Loopy
Food that you will go Loopy about...
The Loopy Shrew, is a family run business in the heart of Shrewsbury, owned and managed by the same team that also owns PorterHouse.SY1 and Darwin's Townhouse.
The menus offer everything from a casual bite to eat with a range of small plates and sharing boards to the more a la carte main courses; which are great for celebrating a special occasion. The Loopy Shrew also offer ‘Host your Roast’ on Sundays alongside the Traditional Sunday Roast, which my husband Stephan and I went along to sample.
We were welcomed by Alexis and the very friendly team and shown to our table. The restaurant has been refurbished to the highest standard, creating the perfect space to chill and enjoy a comfortable and relaxing dining experience. There are impressive sky lights that bring a natural soft light throughout, and a fab mezzanine that affords private dining for a larger party as well as a beautiful garden area to the rear.
We ordered some drinks; diet coke for me and large glass of Pinot Grigio for Stef, which we enjoyed whilst looking over the menu, Alexis made some recommendations which we were more than happy to go with so for starters we had Pan Seared Brixham
The Loopy Shrew Review_Double Page Editorial 11/08/2016 15:01 Page 2
Scallops, Roast Chorizo, Appleyards Black Pudding, Pea Puree and Local Asparagus for me and Georgia’s Whiskey Duck; Honey and Soy Marinated Duck Breast, Chargrilled Vegetables and Whiskey Marmalade Dip for Stef and for our main courses I chose the Traditional Sunday Roast and Stef had spotted a 8oz Fillet Steak with his name on it.
The starters arrived quickly and were everything Alexis had promised and more. The Scallops were perfection in a dish, the tasty hit of chorizo made the dish pop and the black pudding was delicious, all complimented brilliantly by the super fresh asparagus and delightful pea puree and the Whiskey Duck was sensational with the succulent duck and fresh veg smothered in the mouthwatering honey and soy.

Another glass of Pinot in and the main courses arrived in all their glory, the Roast Beef was accompanied by a huge fluffy Yorkshire pudding, golden roast potatoes and a pan full of sides, well technically it was three small pans with potatoes, fresh veg and mash; and it was Sunday roast excellence. The Fillet Steak was cooked exactly as requested, and Stef said that it was of the highest calibre, with fresh tomato and fluffy chips and a drizzling of garlic butter, it was divine.
We were quite full, as the portions are on the generous side but we decided that we could share and Chocolate Brownie, with Fresh Fruit, Vanilla Ice Cream and Nutella Sauce, which sounded like the perfect way to round off a wonderful dining experience – And it certainly was! The Loopy Shrew offers a warm welcome at any time of the day, whether it’s to have a breakfast meeting, quick coffee and cake, after-work drinks or to indulge in an evening of fine wines and great food. The service is excellent and the food is reasonably priced and of the highest quality with locally sourced produce whenever possible. A Snappy New Menu Set to Impress...
Indulgence
The PorterHouse has long been established as one of Shrewsbury most popular eateries; however, with new management and Chef team in place, they want to take Porterhouse to the next level.

PorterHouse; Pure
The Hype team were invited along to an exclusive taster session to sample a few of the new dishes on offer. As we entered we were all welcomed in by the Manager, Tom and escorted to our tables. We all commented on the impressive and authentic feel the Americana décor offered, and we eagerly awaited the arrival of the first dishes. We were presented firstly with Sticky Chicken Wings that were marinated in a Marmite BBQ sauce and accompanied with a Shropshire blue cheese dipping sauce, breaded Mozzarella that was served with a very flavoursome home-made tomato relish and Jalapeno bites that really packed a punch! What a fantastic start.
After a short wait, the second batch of dishes arrived. Kedgree Scotch Egg; Smoked Haddock and Curried Rice, Parsley, Soft Boiled Egg and served with a Cauliflower Piccalilli. This dish was beautifully presented and bursting with a range of flavours that absolutely worked together. Next to sample was my star dish of the day, Ham Hock and Green ‘Grits’ that consisted of Smoked Ham Hock Terrine with Pea and Tarragon
Porterhouse_Double Page Editorial 23/08/2016 15:21 Page 2
Cornmeal ‘Grits. Although this sounds like a relatively simple dish compared to what we had previously sampled, I can assure you that the deep flavours of that ham hock will live long in my memory. And now for something completely different, crocodile popcorn! I must admit that I haven’t really eaten a great deal of ‘exotic meat’ but southern fried crispy crocodile bites served with a chilli and tomato aioli are a must try on your next visit.
Next up we had a sample of some of the Mains dishes. The first dish was Lobster Mac ‘n’ Cheese. As a lover of Lobster I was particularly excited by this and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. The Macaroni was bound with a three cheese sauce and plentiful pieces of fresh, juicy lobster and topped with crunchy parmesan. Veal Parmigiana with Spaghetti Arrabita was next and the breaded veal escalope was cooked to absolute perfection and the beautifully spiced tomato spaghetti worked wonderfully together. Lastly we were treated to Alex’s favourite dish, ricotta and avocado pappardelle. Alex was actually very surprised that this was his favourite dish as he is a self-confessed carnivore; however, the home-made pasta, confit garlic, fresh herbs, ricotta and avocado foam totally won him over.
On to the desserts, Salted caramel and pistachio rice pudding brulee offered a wonderful twist on a true classic and was executed to perfection. Again, another dish that I hadn’t chose before and I probably wouldn’t have was Apple and Shropshire Cheddar Tart with a Crème Anglaise. Quite simply it was wonderful; a great addition to the new menu and a real must have for any selfconfessed foodie such as myself! And they certainly saved the best until last – PorterHouse S’mores. This totally indulgent dessert consisted of gooey double chocolate cookie baked with an impressive home-made marshmallow, vanilla ice cream and a very wonderfully intense mini chocolate milkshake. A chocoholic’s dream! Words cannot really express how good that dessert really is, however, it’s quite possibly the best dessert that I’ve ever tasted and the fact that Alex was quiet for the duration of this dish completely validates this claim. I genuinely believe that the clear passion and pure quality that we had the pleasure of sampling during our experience at the PorterHouse will take them to the next level. Sample the new menu from Monday 22nd August - Call 01743 358870 to book a table!

Take Your Taste buds to Town...
Situated in the picturesque town of Oswestry, Shropshire, you will find a venue like no other. Townhouse Brasserie is a stunning Georgian property which has been lovingly refurbished; the result of which is a spectacular fusion of heritage and modern styling. Townhouse has launched a new brasserie menu, which we were very excited to go along and try. We were welcomed warmly by Carly, who runs the Townhouse along with her brother Ollie. Carly took us through, past the Lounge Room to take a seat in the Garden Room, with opulent chandeliers and quirky baskets, which has been cleverly turned into lightshades, and ornate mirrors set on classic grey walls giving a feel of pure luxury. The Garden Room overlooks the beautiful rear walled garden, complete with stage for live performances and various events hosted during the summer months, there was actually a play taking place whilst we were there.

We were introduced to our server for the evening, Yasmin who was lovely. We ordered our drinks, Stephan couldn’t resist a cheeky cocktail and opted for a Black Russian, he rarely can resist though! We scanned the menus, spoilt for choice but eventually settling on Garlic Prawns with fennel salad for myself, and Chicken Liver Parfait with toasted campagne and fruit chutney for Stephan.
We were treated to a taster prior to the arrival of the starters of carrot and roasted red pepper soup with a drizzle of black truffle oil, which was amazing. Then the starters arrived, the prawns were magnificent, plump, and juicy and bursting with flavour and Stephan was very pleased with the Parfait, which was spot on. For the main courses we chose Chargrilled Tuna Steak with roasted vine tomato and honey soy glaze, and Fillet Steak served with field mushroom, plum tomato on the vine and a generous helping of triple cooked chips. The tuna steak was excellent, cooked exactly as requested, the flavours were exquisite. Stephan’s fillet was blissful too, the knife cutting as though it was butter and the triple cut chips were great too.
Stephan decided to try another cocktail so ordered a Negroni, a classic Campari cocktail, whilst we browsed the dessert options. I chose Classic Lemon & Bay Brulée with poached pear and Stephan was delighted when he spotted Hot and Fresh Doughnuts with cherry jam and clotted cream ice cream, which he was very enthusiastic about trying! The brulée was stunning, the bay giving it an unusual flavour that was a really cool twist, and the poached pear was almost celestial. Stephan’s doughnuts were also marvellous, the smell of freshly cooked doughnuts filling the air gloriously. Head chef Gareth Bagley, who has almost two decades of experience, is bringing a fresh and exciting variety of ideas to put the Townhouse firmly on the food map. This, along with the stunning surroundings and excellent service make the Townhouse Brasserie a must visit for any self-respecting foodie, but just as much so for families looking for a great venue to relax with their children.
For a warm welcome and stunning cuisine at affordable prices, look no further. Whether you want to sip champagne and cocktails in the flamboyant and quirky bar, kick back in the beautiful garden or enjoy special occasions with family, Townhouse has it all.

Come to Write Here! On Shrewsbury’s historic High Street, opposite the Unitarian Church where the young Charles Darwin attended with his Mother, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge preached. As the name suggests, fountain pens and writing instruments in general are an important part of what they sell, but there’s so much more. Artists can look at the range of fine art materials from Pip Seymour, whilst their kids can check out Faber Castell’s coloured felt tip pens, and both can find colouring books and sketchbooks, and even some Skizzenbuchs. But they may have been delayed on their way through the shop by one of the best ranges of greetings cards in Shrewsbury (many by local artists), locally themed gifts and the jolly useful Leuchtturm range of journals and diaries. Some may be distracted by the Jellycats (usually the under 5’s, but not always), the kites and rockets or outdoor games.
And then you get to the back room, and find our unparalleled range of fountain pen inks (at least a colour for every other day of the week) and probably the widest range of pens outside (and maybe even inside) London. Not just fine, medium and broad but Italic, stub and oblique. Helpful staff will help you decide which is right! Hiding round the corner they’ll find jigsaws and other puzzles, notepaper and more specialist notebooks.
Staggering under the weight of purchases, they’ll head for the till where, again, the ever helpful staff will be on hand to assist them in assuming ownership of them.

• Rosalind Pearson, the Director of ‘Women Like Us’ (1998) & ‘Women Like That’ (1991). Since his father left, he takes care of his emotionally disturbed mother, and he’s the kind of friend his classmates can depend on. As strong as he seems on the outside, Randy is hiding a secret inner struggle and denial of his true self. It’s not until he opens himself up to love that he discovers that becoming a man means accepting who you really are.
• ‘Desert Hearts’ is our Classic Film. Ahead of its time and ‘before lesbian chic’, it was the first feature film to depict a lesbian relationship favourably and, at the time, considered pretty risque! Not to be missed in 2016!

BACK TO SCHOOL EDUCATION...
READY FOR STUDENT LIFE? Off to University? We take a look at what essentials will you need to survive the first few months of Student Life...and beyond!
The essentials... Every student needs the basics like a kettle; for those endless cups of coffee you will need and a toaster. But you could go the whole hog and get a mini fridge for your room - it will save you having an arguement over who took your last bit of bacon or can of pop!
1 26
The entertainment... It would be worth investing in a smart TV (about 22 inch will do it, as your parents won’t fall for a sob story that involves you NEEDING a 50 inch to take to uni!). A games console also would be great as it will not only help you break the ice and make new friends but you can also watch films, play online and get internet access, making it easier to keep in touch with friends and family.
2
The extras... Things like a good set of headphones may help, if you live with a bunch of noisy housemates and a decent desk light for those long nights, when finishing an assignment runs into the early hours :( Also you could invest in a USB External Portable SSD to back up your important files, research and course work. You can get a decent one for around £150.

What Is Dyslexia?
Felicity Page Of Shropshire Dyslexia Tutoring Explains...
Early recognition
Felicity P. Page MA (Ed) B.Ed (Hons) AMBDA SpLD APC (Patoss) Telephone: 07983 981677 Email: dyslexiateaching@aol.co.uk Have you noticed your child is sometimes getting words muddled when they are reading or spelling? Do they find it hard to remember and carry out two or more instructions at a time? Is it difficult for them to concentrate on writing or reading without being distracted by what’s going on around them?
And are these challenges starting to have an impact on your child’s confidence and on their progress at school? If they are, have you wondered whether you child may be experiencing specific language and learning difficulties?
The speed of children’s learning and development may vary, but if your child experiences any of these challenges and they are persisting then it would be worthwhile investigating further. It may be that they have a dyslexic profile or there may be other reasons. A child with a dyslexic profile is just as bright and capable as their peers – sometimes brighter! Often they are highly imaginative and creative, and they may have exceptional technical skills. They can be quick ‘thinkers’ and ‘doers’.
What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia can be described as a specific difference in the way that some individuals learn and process information. This can present difficulties in one or more of the following areas: • Spelling and written language • Reading • Motor skills • Short-term memory • Sequencing • Auditory or visual memory According to the British Dyslexia Association, 10 per cent of the population experience dyslexia to a greater or lesser extent. While children and adults with dyslexia share features in common, each individual’s profile is unique. Dyslexia as an advantage
The same dyslexic features that create academic challenges bring exceptional talents, which should be recognised and nurtured. Entrepreneurs are five times more likely to experience dyslexia and many architects, engineers, surgeons, sportspeople, actors, explorers and craftspeople have a dyslexic style.
There are clear advantages to early recognition of a dyslexic profile. This means that your child can start to learn and practise essential literacy skills using approaches that recognise their own individual strengths and style. Recognition gives children an earlier opportunity to learn simple techniques for managing concentration and stress anxiety, allowing their confidence, learning and potential to develop.
Does my child need an assessment for dyslexia?
An assessment is useful but not essential in every case. It can help to identify the way in which your child processes information as well as their strengths and weaknesses in literacy learning. Tutoring can be more carefully tailored to your child’s individual needs and style. How can I help?
As an experienced specialist dyslexia tutor and assessor I will create an individual and timebased plan for your child, for tutoring in a calm environment where distractions are minimised. All students who are keen to improve their skills will succeed!

Shrewsbury Sixth Form Edit_Double Page Editorial 22/08/2016 19:45 Page 1
Students and staff are celebrating A level results at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, with 47% A*-B grades and over 74% A*-C grades and an overall pass rate of 98.5%.
For the first time in the college’s history over 750 students were sitting Advanced level examinations this year including 2070 entries in 44 different A level subjects making the college the biggest A level centre in the county.
Commenting on the achievements in his final year at the college Principal Martin Ward, said ‘A level results are so important for students in terms of their progression to university or employment. The pass rate is an impressive 98.5% with significantly high proportions of higher grades with A*-B grades at 47% and A*-C grades at 74.2%. Results at A level show a pleasing improvement on last year. Achieving such an improvement, whilst providing a range of choice to a large number of students is a credit to the college.’ Underlying the headline rate there are many individual success stories. 5 students who were offered places at Oxford or Cambridge this year have achieved the grades required. 4 students who were offered places to study Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary courses have been successful in achieving the required grades. Approximately 70% of the students will go straight to university in a wide range of courses.
For the third year the college has entered students for advanced BTEC courses. At Subsidiary Diploma level 91 entries were made in BTEC Applied Science, Business, ICT and Sport and there was a pass rate of 100% and a fantastic 76% of all entries were at Distinction level. These qualifications have a high academic content and also prepare students for the world of employment.
It’s not just results day that has added excitement to this summer as the merger with Shrewsbury College to create the Shrewsbury Colleges Group has now taken place. This merger allows the two colleges to focus wholly on what they do best: offer an exceptionally high performing Advanced Level centre for
academically motivated students at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and a leading vocational centre of excellence at Shrewsbury College. It will also allow increased focus on the development of much needed Apprenticeships.
Chair of Governors, Alison Jackson comments. 'Rather than coexisting - and in some areas competing - we are now able to positively work together, ensuring we deliver a broader, stronger and more co-ordinated offering to our students, local employers and the community. '
The new Head of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College Paul Morgan adds 'the exciting and newly merged Shrewsbury Colleges Group will give students even greater flexibility with their programme and access to dedicated subject resources at different campus locations. We are proud to offer the largest and most flexible curriculum offer within Shropshire, comprising A Levels and vocational diplomas, with Apprenticeships and Higher Education qualifications as progression routes. Students still apply to each college and will 'belong' to each college community, as each college will retain their individual identities and characteristics.'
One Principal/CEO will be appointed to oversee the merged group and in the meantime the post has been taken by Lyn Surgeon, who is an experienced Principal and Chief Executive previously of the ‘outstanding’ Nelson and Colne College and South Downs College. Prior to this Lyn was Deputy Principal of Pendleton College, an ‘outstanding’ Sixth Form College which was part of the merger of the three colleges which formed Salford City College in 2009.
“I am delighted to be leading the newly formed Shrewsbury Colleges Group, where we will provide excellent opportunities for all our students, enabling them to fulfil their dreams and aspirations” remarks Lyn Surgeon.

Munich Munich is the capital of Bavaria, Germany. It is home to centuries-old buildings and countless museums. The city is famous for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and cavernous beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus.
42
In the Old Town, Marienplatz is a central square containing landmarks such as Gothic Neues Rathaus Town Hall, with a popular glockenspiel show. Munich is seriously underrated as a city-break destination, if the festival isn’t for you then delay your trip until a little later in the month when hotel prices and airfares plummet.

3. Siegestor Gate
The gate was originally dedicated to the glory of the Bavarian army. Today, the Siegestor is a monument and reminder to peace. After sustaining heavy damage in World War II it was set to be demolished in 1945 however, the gate was reconstructed and restored partially. The new inscription on the back side by Wilhelm Hausenstein reads Dem Sieg geweiht, vom Krieg zerstört, zum Frieden mahnend, "Dedicated to victory, destroyed by war, urging peace".
4. Neuschwanstein Castle
The setting of Neuschwanstein could not be more idyllic. Neuschwanstein was opened to the public 7 weeks after the death of King Ludwig II in 1886. The shy king built the castle in order to withdraw from public life. Vast numbers of people now come to view his private refuge. Today Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. Every year 1.4 million people visit "the castle of the fairy-tale king". In the summer around 6,000 visitors a day stream through rooms that were intended for a single inhabitant.

Home Makeover Experts Launch Local Showroom!
With more than 200 showrooms across four continents and around 8,000 kitchen and bathroom installations carried out globally each month, Granite Transformations lays claim to being the world’s leading home transformations company. Its tough, slimline and lastingly beautiful kitchen worktops and bathroom surfaces will instantly transform outdated décor and come with an unrivalled lifetime material warranty. So news that a Granite Transformations showroom is opening locally inside Dobbies Garden centre, Shrewsbury will be of interest to house-proud homeowners looking for high quality, low cost kitchen and bathroom makeovers. With dozens of different Italian granite, quartz and eco-friendly recycled glass worktop designs and colours to choose from, plus replacement cabinet doors and glass mosaic splashbacks, there’s a delightful new look for every home.
“We know that people around here appreciate quality, value and good design, so many will already be aware of the Granite Transformations name and reputation. But seeing is believing, so our new showroom allows householders to touch and feel our beautiful, hardwearing surfaces and view all the stylish colours we offer,” says showroom owner Richard.
“We promise to look after our customers well, advising them on interior design options, measuring up their existing units and fittings, fabricating their worktops and other surfaces in our workshop, then installing them with the minimum of fuss, usually in just a day or so. We aim to make your makeover a pleasant, stress-free experience with a delightful outcome.”
Affordability is one key to Granite Transformations’ market success, with a complete kitchen makeover, including worktops, replacement doors, drawer fronts, sink units and monobloc taps, typically costing less than half the price of new fitted units. There’s less disruption too, since there’s no ripping out or demolition, no dust and debris, and just two factory-trained fitters will carry out all the work, even laying floor tiles and glass mosaic splashbacks if required.
“Apart from saving you money and stress, kitchen refacing retains your existing cabinet carcases and familiar layout, saving on landfill waste, rewiring and major plumbing work,” says Richard. “Bathroom makeovers can usually be achieved without ripping out old ceramic tiles and we can fabricate new bath surrounds and vanity units. We can smarten up utility rooms too, running a wipe-clean countertop, over a dishwasher, washing machine and storage areas.” The Bayston Hill showroom inside Dobbies offers one of the largest selections of made-to-measure replacement doors and drawer fronts, which can be expertly fitted alongside the worktops. There are 20 different styles and over 30 colours to create the best combination for your home, including woodgrains, ultragloss solid shades, matt finishes, metallics, fashionable neutral tones, even paintable vinyl for a custom look. Naturally, there is a complementary choice of handles, knobs, drawer pulls and such fittings as soft-close hinges, together with accessories like pelmets, shelves, canopies and wine racks.
To add sparkle to kitchen splashbacks, walk-in showers and bathrooms, there’s also an exclusive Granite Transformations collection of genuine Italian glass tiles. The fourteen authentic mosaic colours have been chosen to work beautifully with the hard surfaces and door finishes and, as you might expect from Granite Transformations, the industry-first fixing system means most mosaic tiling installations take only half a day.
If you’re considering a kitchen or bathroom makeover, but thought you might not have the necessary budget, then the Granite Transformations showrooms in Shrewsbury are well worth checking out. You can talk to their makeover experts, review all the material and colour options, and have a free design consultation. You could visit their website at www.granitetransformations.co.uk and download the directions. Enquiries to shrewsbury@granitetransformations.co.uk or call us on 01743 585 988.

Celebrating Wellington Festival! We are delighted to launch the 2016 Wellington Festival – a spectacular three week celebration of arts and culture. The Festival takes place in the vibrant market town of Wellington and aims to showcase artists of local, national and international renown. After the great success of last year’s Festival, we have been working throughout the winter to put together an amazing programme of events and activities, for the whole family.
In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, the Festival promises a fantastic line up of comedy, photography, dance, culture and all aspects of literature including travel writing workshops, poetry and performance writing. We hope that you are inspired to have a go at some of the workshops on offer: try something new, visit more places on your doorstep, bring family and friends and encourage tourists and visitors to discover all that Wellington has to offer. Opening the Festival will be the Olympian (and national treasure) – Eddie “the eagle” Edwards - who will be talking about his escapades as he became the
first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping in 1988. This year, his story was told in the biographical film Eddie the Eagle, starring Hugh Jackman, which showed his perseverance and achievements all without funding.
The following day will see a Comedy Club night with the award winning, and nationally acclaimed, comedian Hannah Sylvester, Josh Pugh, English Comedian of the year 2016 and four further acts who have been delighting audiences across the country with their observational insight and cutting satire; this will be an evening to savour. Another major highlight of this year’s programme is our guest Tom Watt who was the Ghost Writer for David Beckham’s biography. He is also an actor, broadcaster and film maker and he returns to the Festival following a successful appearance in 2015. These are just a few of the unique experiences that the Wellington Festival has to offer and all are FREE of charge. If you are planning your big day, then you will know there are lots of things to arrange, choices to be made and of course a dress to buy! There are countless options available in the Shropshire area, and obviously the first thing to decide on is the type of wedding you want, church, registry office or even a civil ceremony. If you have a specific church in mind, then you should speak to the vicar sooner rather than later, as dates can get booked up well in advance. Most venues are now able to offer civil ceremonies, so this could also be an option.
Once you have chosen your venue and set the date, you can start to arrange everything else, like photographers, catering, suit hire and of course a cake! There are some fun ideas too, like a photo booth for your guests to take some pictures of themselves enjoying the day - and once the party really gets going these can be quite hilarious!
Choosing a dress is probably the biggest decision for any bride, so don’t rush into anything. Take a look around and try on as many as possible, you will know the minute you find ‘the one’ just as you did when you met the handsome fella that is going to become your husband!

Autumn Health_Double Page Editorial 23/08/2016 17:02 Page 1
Tips to stay healthy in autumn...
The transition from summer to fall can be a challenge. To help ease the change, we have put together some Autumn Health Tips to get you ready for the colder months and keep your mental and physical health in check.
• Start taking a Vitamin D supplement. We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases since we spend most of our time inside during the fall/winter seasons. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D supplement can boost your mood and immune system!
• Get your flu shot and yearly check-up. Self explanatory! No one likes sniffling, aching, sneezing and coughing getting in the way of life. • Boost your immune system. You can do this by drinking plenty of water, washing your hands often to prevent spreading illness, and eating plenty of nutritious foods.
• Get yourself ready for Daylight Savings Time. Go to bed earlier when you can, especially the week before the clocks change. Longer periods of darkness = longer periods of sleep!
• Moisturize your skin. Harsh temperatures can make your skin dry which leads to more wrinkles, irritated skin and aggravated acne. Not a good look!
• Buy in-season food. Beets, broccoli, cabbage, eggplant, kale, pumpkin, broths, roasted squash, roots and dark leafy greens are all great choices.
Sharon Beddow DipCFHP, MPSPract, BABTAC Member
Health & Beauty Treatments
• Wear layers and protect your body from the dropping temperature. Make sure you have your gloves, a scarf, a winter coat, warm socks, and boots!
• Do some “spring cleaning” in the fall. Clean out your closet, organize that back room, and rid yourself of things you don’t need. It’s the perfect time to get everything sorted.
• Prepare your home for possible extreme weather conditions. Autumn is the perfect time to ensure everything is in order for the harsh winter weather. Check car tires, boilers and everything else essential for the cold months ahead.
• Be kind to yourself. The holidays can cause weight gain, the shorter days can cause low mood, and the flu season can cause sickness. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. Try reframing negative thoughts into positive ones so you can really enjoy yourself this autumn.

THE BOWEN TECHNIQUE... How does The Bowen Technique work?
The Bowen Technique is a safe and powerful therapy that may help with many injuries, conditions and the reduction of pain – it is suitable for almost anyone.
The technique is gentle and stimulates the body’s own natural healing process, it can be used on babies, the elderly and very sick as well as on sports people and the ‘man in the street’.
Deceptively light, the Bowen Technique is non-invasive and nonmanipulative – often it feels like very little has happened – yet in fact it may address the whole body, working on many levels including the physical, chemical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of each client.
From muscular pains and strains, to digestive imbalances. From migraine and headaches to respiratory problems, the Bowen Technique may be successful at restoring your body to the balance and harmony of its original ‘blueprint’. Often it may only take two or three sessions to get you there.

Let Alevere Therapy unlock the new you:
Alevere Nutritional Therapy Alevere Nutritional Therapy consists of high protein meals uniquely formulated to produce rapid weight loss. Welcome to Sterling Clinics, the home of Alevere in Shropshire and North Wales, which is a non-invasive medically supervised programme that has helped thousands of people to achieve their weight loss goals. We offer a revolutionary medically led weight loss programme designed to safely enable you to unlock the key to a new you. Our aim is to offer a caring supportive environment on your journey. We take pride in providing you with the best possible service and support from our doctor led team.
Alevere Therapy is a fast, safe way to lose a lot of weight and get a better body shape. Whether you have 2 stone or 12 stone to lose, we can help you reach your goal via the Alevere Therapy using the latest technology to correct any amount of excessive weight, reshape the body and tighten the skin without the need for surgery.
Alevere Ultrasound Therapy Alevere Ultrasound Therapy treatments are given weekly which break down fat stores under the skin, using the latest medically certified technology.
Alevere Skin & Corrective Tissue Therapy Alevere Skin & Connective Tissue Therapy is carried out weekly using specialised equipment designed to firm and tighten the skin. Contouring is an important element of this therapy which is often ignored as a consequence of losing weight because once it has been stretched by weight gain, skin does not automatically shrink back and exercise cannot address this because there are no muscles in the skin. Stabilisation & Maintenance Arguably the most important phase of Alevere Therapy is the ongoing stabilisation and maintenance so you are equipped to stay at and enjoy your new weight and shape.

Orthopaedic Institute_Double Page Editorial 19/08/2016 13:18 Page 1
The Orthopaedic Institute are proud to be supporting Rheumatology Research for patient benefit in the largest Orthopaedic Hospital and Centre of Excellence in the UK. This is only possible due to the kind donations received from our patients, the general public and grant giving charities.
Our research team report “Rheumatology Research at Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation Trust, Oswestry, Shropshire aims to benefit patient experiences for a full spectrum of rheumatic diseases. Previous, current and future research addresses Rheumatoid Arthritis (joints), Psoriatic Arthritis (joints and skin), Ankylosing Spondylitis (spine), Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (whole body), Osteogenesis Imperfecta (bones) and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (joints), however all these conditions have serious effects on quality of life. The hospital supports both clinical and investigative science and works closely with surgeons and patients to ensure our science aims to directly benefit our patients.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common inflammatory joint disorder in the UK. The condition is chronic and degenerative causing pain and swelling, stiffness and fatigue that progressively worsen over time and life expectancy with RA may be reduced by up to 18 years. There is currently no cure for RA and existing treatments only reduce the pain and suffering experienced. It is therefore vital to develop new, effective therapies for sufferers of hard-to-treat RA.
Researchers are currently looking at several interesting cutting edge avenues for developing new treatments. These treatments range from biological use of proteins and secreted factors produced by stem cells to benefit RA sufferers; development of an ‘Oswestry Diet’ to reduce the symptoms of psoriatic arthritis; identification of the underlying genetics in systemic lupus erythematosus to tailor treatments to fit individual patients; targeted treatments based on white cell counts in joints to combat arthritis; and our own dedicated Paediatric Rheumatology Service investigating juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The kind donations of our patrons enable us to continue with our work and progress closer to developing an effective treatment to benefit our patient’s quality of life.”
All proceeds from the evening of Jazz, Dance and Laughter will go to the Orthopaedic Institute Rheumatology Research Fund For further information or to make a donation please contact;

MyLipo has taken the world by storm, providing the latest in non-surgical liposuction. This revolutionary system uses scientifically proven 635nm red light therapy, which allows us to offer inch loss, toning and cellulite reduction.
How It Works - When the body needs fuel, the brain sends signals to the adipose cells to break down stored fat to release energy, a process called lipolysis. The heat and light emitted from My-Lipo simulates this release of energy. Exercise compliments the process of burning the energy resulting in immediate slimming and toning in the areas you WANT. Rosies Emporium FP_Double Page Editorial 22/08/2016 13:03 Page 1
genuine antiques, quirky gifts and unusual objects 'Rosie's Emporium' is a vibrant antiques shop at the heart of the Frankwell roundabout community in Shrewsbury. Owners Bill and Rosie opened four years ago and the shop has gradually developed into a veritable box of delights. If you like browsing, exploring and even a little bit of gentle haggling, then this is the shop for you! The door is open seven days a week and the atmosphere is welcoming.
Shop stock is diverse- every item is hand picked with an emphasis on quality, authenticity and beauty. There are always great household items, pieces of furniture, hand knotted rugs and textiles; there are also always quirky and unique items, works of art, fine jewellery, paintings or rare collectibles. Prices range from £1- £1000. Much shop trade is international with treasures being sent all over the world. However, shopping locally is much more fun and many precious things are on offer in the shop first at far keener prices.

Bill is also a maker of bespoke lighting. In keeping with a lifetime of experience as an international performer, each is a fantastic and entertaining creation. Every light is made from sculptural antique or vintage pieces that need re-invention: a battered euphonium, a defunct Victorian telescope, even a treddle-powered dentist's drill. In Bill's hands each becomes a fabulously stylish upcycled light. Commissions are welcome. Bill's lights are well worth a look!

Sunflow Invincible Electric Heating
TM
Sunflow are proud engineers and manufacturers of Low Energy Electric heaters, using the latest kiln clay core technology. Sunflow are unique in their field, being the only home grown British manufacturer.
From humble beginnings in Royal Wootton Bassett, Sunflow have expanded to become national installers of electric heating and now have opened a sales office in the North to serve a strong and growing demand.
It is a little known fact that the days of Gas Central Heating are numbered; in fact there will be no new mains gas installations beyond 2020 and that is now little more than three years away. The people at Sunflow are committed to providing electric heating systems that are energy efficient, clean, safe and reliable. Much of their work is removing and replacing old inefficient and difficult to control night storage heaters, but oil and LPG heating systems will also become obsolete, as we strive towards clean and environmentally friendly heating systems. The electric heaters are specifically designed and engineered to maximise thermal comfort in British homes, proving to be the most efficient electric heaters for the UK climate. Two thirds of the cost of household energy bills is spent on heating, it is now more important than ever therefore to replace old technology and dirty inefficient systems.
Sunflow heaters don’t require servicing or maintenance and are built to last. They come with a genuine UK Manufacturer backed guarantee and are manufactured to have a life expectancy in excess of 30 years, making them a great investment which will perform well for years to come.
