Monday is Labor Day
Diary: 1. Pinyin is not that difficult for 9th grade students. The teacher could first introduce those which have similar sounds with English, and ask them to do nǐ hǎo, wáng lǎo shī … Thus their interest will be aroused. When they are able to pronounce my name xiù juān, I know their biggest trouble in learning Pinyin is gone. 2. The teacher does not need to put every new character into English. It depends. From 我 to 我们, 他/她 to 他们/她们,I didn’t try to emphasize 们, but ask them to see, listen and say. I first addressed to one, and then 2 of them , and three, and one again. To my surprise, when they were asked to do greeting activity , they all could put it correctly. 3. After students have learned simple greetings, the teacher can ask them to read the whole thing of Pinyin in alphabetic table, and more practice is required at this stage. Exercise like producing the sound is necessary. The teacher can ask students to produce jīn tiān xīng qī yī (Today is Monday), for the second day students are able to report the day in Chinese.
