hile elsewhere in the world there is more hunger, war and violence than ever before, we who are privileged enough to live in the Pitiusas – these islands that are home to the healthy, rich and beautiful – can all too quickly forget how relaxed and laid back life here normally is, how tolerant and positive the people are, and how many different cultures live together here in relative harmony. My friend Sabatina opened my eyes to all this again when I recently accompanied her to a series of interviews she gave in Ibiza. Witnesses to the many changing cultures on the Island are to be found everywhere, for example, in the Necropolis del Puig de Molins. Under the heading ‘Talking Bones’, we have a few tips for readers wishing to take a step back in time. In Formentera, a catalogue has been compiled of 928 cultural assets worthy of protection, most of which are open to public viewing, as you will discover in our article on this subject. These are all real examples from the world of culture that have survived for hundreds of years. However, Ibiza’s reputation as a cosmopolitan and carefree centre of global music has suffered in the past few years. This is all about to change as you will see in our report on the Music Cluster. We hope that this will become a cultural reality – albeit a modern one – and a reinvigorated and stimulating attraction that brings people to Ibiza. I wish you all a very happy Easter and a wonderful springtime in our Island paradise.

lvidamos con demasiada frecuencia que tenemos la inmensa suerte de vivir en las Pitiusas, las islas de los sanos, los ricos y los bellos, mientras que en el mundo hay más hambre, guerras y violencia que nunca. No nos damos cuenta de lo relajada que suele ser la vida aquí, lo tolerantes y positivas que son las personas y con qué relativa sencillez conviven aquí muchas culturas. Mi buena amiga Sabatina James me lo hizo ver recientemente en el maratón de entrevistas en la isla al que tuve el privilegio de acompañarla. Hay por doquier testimonios de las diferentes culturas que han pasado por nuestras islas, por ejemplo en la necrópolis de Puig de Molins. «Huesos que hablan» rezaría nuestro lema para transportarse al pasado. En Formentera acaban de reunirse en un catálogo 928 bienes culturales protegidos, la mayoría de los cuales se pueden visitar, como podrá usted descubrir en nuestro reportaje al respecto. Todos ellos son ejemplos reales del ámbito de la cultura que han pervivido durante siglos. Al contrario, la fama de Ibiza como libre y animado centro mundial de la música ha sufrido varios reveses estos últimos años. Esto debe cambiar a partir de ahora, tal como se refleja en nuestro artículo sobre el Music Cluster. Esperamos que esto represente una realidad cultural -aunque contemporánea- y se convierta en una atracción que aporte un nuevo soplo de vida para Ibiza. Le deseo una feliz Semana Santa y una primavera de ensueño en nuestras islas paradisiacas.

Wie tolerant und positiv die Menschen hier sind, wie relativ problemlos viele Kulturen hier zusammenleben. Dies führte mir kürzlich erst wieder meine Freundin Sabatina James vor Augen, die ich auf der Insel zu zahlreichen Interviews begleiten durfte. Zeugen der vielen wechselnden Kulturen auf diesen Inseln finden sich überall, zum Beispiel in der Nekropolis am Puig de Molins. „Wenn Knochen sprechen könnten“ titelt unser Tipp, sich in die Vergangenheit versetzen zu lassen. Auf Formentera wurden gerade 928 schützenswerte Kulturgüter in einem Katalog erfasst, die meisten von ihnen kann man besichtigen, wie sie es unserem diesbezüglichen Bericht entnehmen können. Dies alles sind reale Beispiele aus der Welt der Kultur, die Jahrhunderte überdauert haben. Der Ruf Ibizas als freies, unbeschwertes Weltzentrum der Musik hat hingegen in den letzten Jahren gelitten. Das soll nun wieder anders werden, wie Sie in unserem Bericht über den Music Cluster lesen können. Wir hoffen, dass dies eine – wenn auch neuzeitliche – kulturelle Realität und damit eine wiederbelebte Attraktion Ibizas wird. Ich wünsche Ihnen frohe Ostertage und einen traumhaften Frühling auf unseren paradiesischen Inseln.

ric Kuster’s ability to strike the perfect balance between classical and modern has won him a place on the list of top international interior designers. He began his career in 1989 as the Creative and Commercial Director at Chivasso, the Dutch textile manufacturer. His perfect feel for colour and natural tones was quickly spotted by other style connoisseurs, and this enabled him quite soon to open his first shop in the fashionable town of Laren on Holland’s ‘Gold Coast’. Since then, his collections of fabrics, furniture and interiors are to be found not only in Holland but also in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and particularly around the Mediterranean.

He got to know Natascha Lampie through his business and together they decided to bring a new glamorous style to Ibiza. The tireless businessman and globetrotter now spends the majority of his time commuting between his main home in the high society retreat of Crailo in Holland and his second home in Ibiza, a penthouse in Residencial Valor Real. He has been coming to Ibiza since he was nineteen and has spent almost every summer on the Island. He has observed the changes in Ibiza over the years and says that despite it all, the Island itself has changed very little. There are still the same popular places and hotspots as have been there for years, and Ibiza still has a really good vibe. You get to met more beautiful people here than anywhere else – it’s a very fashionable crowd.

he’s young, affable and stylish. She’s called Noelia León Moreno, she was born in Ibiza and she’s 21 years old.

What’s your profession? I work in administration at the airport but I also devote myself to night life.

s un personaje joven y simpático con estilo. Se llama Noelia León Moreno, nació en Ibiza y tiene 21 años.

Since when? Ever since I was young I have always practised lots of sport, above all, dance and gymnastics. Thanks to that I began to work as a dancer in the discotheques in Ibiza and as a performer with the famous group Foc i Fum.

¿Cual es tu profesión? Soy administrativa en el aeropuerto pero también me dedico al mundo de la noche. ¿Desde cuándo? Desde pequeña he practicado siempre mucho deporte, sobre todo la danza y gimnasia deportiva. Gracias a eso empecé a trabajar de bailarina en las discotecas de Ibiza y empecé de hacer performance con el famoso grupo Foc i Fum.

Tell me more about you and your hobby With Foc i Fum I started as a body painting model and trained every week with them to learn to wear stilts, build structures and act until I had learnt. My first performance was in the night club Space, where I also began to dance in the Monday’s calling parties in the summer of 2008.

Cuéntame más sobre ti y tu hobby Con Foc i Fum empecé como modelo de body painting y entrenaba todas las semanas con ellos para aprender a llevar zancos, hacer estructuras e interpretación hasta que aprendí y me estrené en la discoteca Space, donde también empecé a bailar en la fiesta Monday’s calling en el verano de 2008.

Have you always lived and worked in Ibiza? In 2009 I went to work at the airport in Barcelona but I still carried on with my work with Foc i Fum. In Barcelona I combined my work at the airport with dancing at night for the group Matinee; and as a model for Cazcarra Image Group. I would like to point out that I have travelled a lot with the Foc i Fum group; they are known all over the world and I, personally, have been all over Spain and in Algeria and Egypt with them.

¿Tu vives y trabajas siempre en Ibiza? En 2009 me fui a trabajar a Barcelona en el aeropuerto pero seguía también trabajando con Foc i Fum. En Barcelona compaginaba mi trabajo en el aeropuerto con bailar por las noches para el grupo Matinee; y de modelo para Cazcarra Image Group. Puntualizo que con el grupo Foc i Fum he viajado mucho, son internacionalmente conocidos, yo personalmente con ellos he estado por toda España, en Argelia y Egipto.

Was machst Du beruflich? Ich arbeite hauptsächlich in der Flughafenverwaltung, widme mich in meiner Freizeit aber auch dem Nightlife. Seit wann? Schon in meiner Jugend habe ich viel Sport betrieben, vor allem aber Tanz und Gymnastik. Daher hatte ich die Chance als Tänzerin in den Diskotheken Ibizas und zu arbeiten aber auch mit der berühmten Gruppe Foc i Fum zu performen. Erzähl mir etwas mehr über Dich und Dein Hobby. Mit Foc i Fum began ich als Body Painting Model und trainierte jede Woche mit ihnen auf Stelzen zu laufen, bis ich gelernt hatte dabei Haltung zu bewahren. Meine erste Performance war dann im Space, wo ich auch bei den „Monday’s Calling“ Parties im Sommer 2008 zu tanzen anfing. Hast Du immer nur in Ibiza gelebt und gearbeitet? Nein, 2009 begann ich am Airport in Barcelona zu arbeiten aber ich machte auch bei Foc i Fum weiter mit. In Barcelona tanzte ich neben meiner Arbeit am Flughafen nachts für die Matinee Group und auch als Model für die Cazcarra Image Group. Ich möchte noch betonen, dass ich viel mit Foc i Fum gereist bin. Sie sind überall auf der Welt bekannt und ich persönlich war mit ihnen überall in Spanien aber auch in Algerien und Ägypten.

ith the concerns of global recession on our door step, it has to be said that Ibiza’s resilience to an international financial crises continues to amaze us all. Whilst we have endured the horror stories of Ibiza 2009, of heavy handed policing and unjust policies towards private parties and entertainment at ones own home; a reaction to counteract the growth of illegal after hours parties that the authorities have declared as being a negative influence on tourism; it seems that Ibiza still manages to rise above the criticism of draconian attitudes and rides the wave of an un-expected success. Whilst a lot of us have been expecting the worst for our beloved island during these tough times and changes, it seems that all the signs are pointing in the right direction for a prosperous summer 2010. High end villa bookings are up, professionally organised wedding ceremonies have increased dramatically and interest from the international jet set to re-locate to the magic island have greatly amplified due to the beneficial and so called Beckham effect that allows residents from the EU to re-locate to Spain with major tax benefits. All in all, we must not forget that Ibiza provides an open minded, sometimes dated but romantically unique environment for all ordinary folk, tourists, clubbers, corporate business’s and brands; to witness, engage and connect with. i se tienen en cuenta los graves problemas derivados de la recesión que acucian al mundo entero, hay que reconocer que la resistencia de Ibiza a una crisis financiera de implicaciones tan globales no deja de sorprendernos a todos. A pesar de que en 2009 hemos sufrido en Ibiza historias más bien propias del cine de terror, como normativas de mano dura y políticas injustas contra particulares y profesionales del sector del entretenimiento en su propia casa o la reacción para contrarrestar la proliferación de las fiestas after hours ilegales declaradas por las autoridades como una influencia negativa para el turismo, parece que Ibiza sigue arreglándoselas para resurgir de las cenizas de las críticas ante actitudes draconianas y se ha embarcado en un inesperado rumbo de éxitos. Si bien muchos de nosotros nos estábamos temiendo lo peor para nuestra querida isla en esta época de cambios y dificultades, parece que los signos apuntan en la dirección correcta y que en 2010 nos espera un próspero verano. Están aumentando las reservas de villas de lujo, las ceremonias de boda organizadas profesionalmente han registrado una enorme subida y además se ha redoblado el interés de la jet set internacional por desplazarse a la isla mágica gracias al beneficioso y muy publicitado «efecto Beckham», que permite a los residentes de la UE trasladar su residencia a España con sustanciosas ventajas fiscales. En definitiva, no debemos olvidar que Ibiza ofrece un entorno a veces algo arcaico pero único por su romanticismo, abierto a todo tipo de turistas, fanáticos de los clubes, grandes empresas y marcas. Un entorno para vivirlo en primera persona, participar y «conectar»... Seamos honestos: ¿hay alguien que nos pueda comer la tostada?... 

Es scheint, dass unsere Insel es immer noch schafft, über diese drakonischen Massnahmen erhaben zu sein und auf einer unerwarteten Erfolgswelle reitet. Viele von uns haben während dieser harten Zeiten und Veränderungen für unsere geliebte Insel das Schlimmste befürchtet. Es scheint aber so, als ob alle Zeichen auf einen erfolgreichen Sommer 2010 hindeuten. Es werden mehr Luxusvillen vermietet, die Zahl professionell organisierter Hochzeitsfeiern steigt stark an und das Interesse des internationalen JetSets, sich auf unserem wunderbaren Eiland niederzulassen, hat stark zugenommen. Dies ist eine segensreiche Folge des sogenannten Beckham-Effekts, der es EU-Bürgern erlaubt, sich mit großem Steuervorteil in Spanien anzusiedeln. Insgesamt gesehen dürfen wir nicht vergessen, dass Ibiza eine aufgeschlossene, ab und zu altmodische, aber romantische und einzigartige Location für normale Menschen, Touristen, Clubber, Corporate Businesses und Marken ist. Hier kann man viel erleben, sich engagieren und Kontakte knüpfen. Um ehrlich zu sein, kann uns in dieser Beziehung keiner das Wasser reichen.

panies, some 2500 people that work directly or indirectly in the sector and which had a turnover of 175 millon Euros in 2008. For the first time the necessity to manage this brand and promote this market has been recognized by our main government body by proposing to this group an organization that promotes it and enables it to compete within the global marketplace: the Ibiza Music Cluster. After it was presented in the summit last May and once part of the bureaucracy required by the setting up of this kind of grouping had been put in place, the project has achieved the classification of excellence on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and has an initial budget of 200,000 Euros. The first meeting was held in the conference room of the Island Council last January 27th where Paco Medina, secretary general of the presidency and promoter along with Paco Chamizo and the technician responsible for the establishment of the Cluster, Diana Bustamante, pointed out to us the steps already carried out and the ones yet to be taken once they have assumed the work which has been presented to the agents given that, as far as the government body is concerned, they have already taken care of their part of it. Now is the time to approach the members, draw up the statutes, contract a technical management team and start to develop the aims already defined in the project; the development and protection of the Ibiza trade mark, events and perfomances both local and itinerant such as the Ibiza music festival, academic training through a reference centre in musical training, already presented in the Ministry and for which it is already in competition with cities such as Madrid, Barcelona or Zaragoza. Further aims include; the technological support to promote and market the music produced in Ibiza such as Ibiza music download and the Ibiza music network, the creation of an Ibiza music district where companies can set up and create a boulevard including thematic hotels… all in all: to make Ibiza the Mecca of music just as Hollywood is when it comes to cinema. Por primera vez se reconoce desde nuestra institución principal la importancia de gestionar esta marca y promover este mercado proponiendo a este colectivo una entidad que impulse y permita competir dentro del mercado global, el llamado Ibiza Music Cluster. Presentado el pasado mes de mayo dentro del Summit y una vez superada parte de la burocracia que requiere la puesta en marcha de este tipo de agrupaciones, el proyecto ha conseguido la consideración de excelencia por parte del ministerio de industria y cuenta con un presupuesto inicial de 200.000 euros, el primer “meeting“ se realizó en la sala de plenos del Consell el pasado 27 de enero, allí Paco Medina, secretario general de presidencia y promotor junto a Paco Chamizo y a la técnico Diana Bustamante para la puesta en marcha del Cluster, nos indicó los pasos realizados y los pasos a realizar una vez entregado el testigo a los agentes puesto que desde la institución estiman que ya han hecho los deberes. Es el momento de adherir a los socios,conformar los estatutos, contratar a un equipo de gerencia técnica y comenzar a desarrollar los objetivos ya definidos en el proyecto; el desarrollo y protección de la marca Ibiza trade mark, los eventos y perfomances tanto propios como itinerantes como el Ibiza music festival, la formación académica mediante un centro de referencia en formación musical, presentado ya en el ministerio y por el cual ya se está compitiendo con ciudades como Madrid, Barcelona o Zaragoza, el soporte tecnológico para promocionar y comercializar la música producida en Ibiza como el Ibiza music download y el Ibiza music network, la creación del Ibiza music district donde empresas se puedan asentar y crear un boulevard incluyendo hoteles temáticos …en resumen hacer de Ibiza la meca de la música como Hollywood la es del cine. Zum ersten Mal erkennt jetzt unsere oberste Inselbehörde, dass es wichtig ist, diese Marke und diesen vielversprechenden Markt zu fördern. Deswegen wurde für dieses Kollektiv eine Institution ins Leben gerufen, welche Impulse bringen soll um die Konkurrenzfähigkeit auf dem globalen Markt voranzubringen, das Ibiza Music Cluster. Das Projekt wurde vergangenen Mai während des Ibiza Music Summit präsentiert und überwandt die Hürden der Bürokratie, welche die Initiierung eines solchen Projekts nun mal erfordern. Es wurde vom Industrieministerium anerkannt und hat ein Startbudget von 200.000 Euro. Das erste 'Meeting' fand am 27. Januar im Plenarsaal des Inselrats statt, dort haben Paco Medina, Generalsekretär des Präsidiums, Paco Chamizo und Diana Bustamante, Förderer der Gründungsgesellschaft des Clusters, uns die umgesetzten Schritte und die noch umzusetzenden aufgezeigt. Jetzt müssen Partner gewonnen, Statuten erstellt, Personal für die technische Geschäftsführung angestellt und für das Projekt festgelegte Ziele entwickelt werden. Genannt seien hier die Entwicklung und der Schutz einer Ibiza Trade Mark, Veranstaltungen und Performances, welche für ein Ibiza Music Festival typisch sind, die akademische Ausbildung in einem Zentrum für musikalische Schulung um dadurch mehr Konkurrenzfähigkeit gegenüber Städten wie Madrid, Barcelona und Saragossa, technische Unterstützung, um die auf Ibiza produzierte Musik zu fördern und zu vermarkten, etwa mit dem Ibiza Music Download und dem Ibiza Music Network, die Schaffung des Ibiza Music Districts, in dem sich Firmen ansiedeln und einen Boulevard mit Themenhotels ins Leben rufen können. Kurzum, Ibiza soll zu einem Mekka der Musik werden, so wie es Hollywood für den Film ist. Der Saal war voll, was ein großes Interesse seitens der beteiligten Parteien beweist. great interest on behalf of those who constitute the cluster. The overall scheme of what aims to be the group which will take part was presented to us there, as long as it is approved in the constitutional assembly with the government bodies, public bodies and assorted associations holding 40% of the vote, the business sector holding 40% and the professionals, artists, producers and musicians in general with 20% thus opening the full range up to the participation of all those involved. The last group is the most skeptical and critical since it fears that, ultimately, those who benefit will be the ones who make the most money and they are already complaining that they haven’t been more closely consulted from the outset even if it is my understanding that things are still at the beginning and that it is open to however many proposals as are presented: it is time to contribute and join in. In particular, I praise the work already carried out and don’t hide my enthusiasm for the project. It will be difficult to handle all the different groups as the record of conflicts owing to the competitiveness among the “big” companies in the sector is well known, as well as difficult to get town councils, the regional government and, lastly, the different police forces as well as citizens themselves to understand and back the holding of events which must always take place within the law. Equally difficult will it be to ensure we keep looking after our visitors by offering them hospitality, kindness, warmth and services so that they keep coming back year after year. In these times of crisis through which we are living we have to focus on the common good and the wider sense of business, we have to be able to compete with tourist destinations that are trying to snatch away from us the model that was invented on the island as well as the companies that market the Ibiza musical brand without hav-

presentó el esquema de lo que pretende ser la agrupación que estará participada, siempre que se apruebe en la asamblea constituyente,en un 40% por las instituciones, entidades públicas y diversas asociaciones, un 40% por el empresariado y un 20% por los profesionales, creadores, productores y músicos en general abriendo el abanico a que puedan participar todos los interesados. Este último colectivo es el más escéptico y crítico, pues teme que al final los beneficiados sean los que más facturan y ya están echando en falta que no se haya contado más con ellos en este principio, aunque yo entiendo que aún se está en el principio y que se está abierto a cuántaspropuestas se presenten, es tiempo de aportar y sumar. Particularmente, alabo el trabajo realizado y no disimulo mi entusiasmo por el proyecto, difícil será el capear con todas las partes pues sabido es el historial de conflictos por la competitividad entre las empresas “grandes” del sector, difícil será también el conseguir que ayuntamientos, delegación de gobierno y, por ende, las distintas policías así como la propia ciudadanía comprenda y facilite el que se puedan desarrollar los eventos,siempre dentro de la legalidad, y que mantengamos el cuidado a nuestros visitantes ofreciéndoles hospitalidad, amabilidad, simpatía y servicios para que sigan viniendo año tras año. En estos tiempos de crisis que nos toca vivir tenemos que focalizar el bien común y el amplio sentido del Business, hay que poder competir con destinos turísticos que pretenden arrebatarnos el modelo que se inventó en la isla, hay empresas que comercializan la marca musical Ibiza sin tener nada que ver con la misma simplemente porque “vende” y es “cool”.

Schöpfer, Produzenten und Musiker im Allgemeinen bekommen, sodass alle Interessenten daran teilhaben können. Die letztere Gruppe ist die skeptischste und kritischste, da sie befürchtet, dass diejenigen, die am meisten Anteile haben, auch am meisten profitieren, daher würde sie sich eine größere Beteiligung wünschen. Es ist zwar verständlich, dass sie bei diesem Grundsatz bleiben aber sie müssen auch offen für diverse vorgestellte Vorschläge sein, denn es ist an der Zeit, sich zu engagieren und zusammenzuarbeiten. Insbesondere freut mich die vollbrachte Arbeit und ich verheimliche nicht meinen Enthusiasmus für das Projekt, es wird aber schwierig, alle Parteien auf eine gemeinsame Linie zu bringen, da es zwischen den großen Unternehmen in diesem Bereich einen immensen Wettbewerb gibt. Es wird aber auch nicht einfach, die Rathäuser, die Regierungsdelegation, und daher auch die verschiedenen Polizeidienststellen unter einen Hut zu bringen. Die Bürger verstehen und ermöglichen die Durchführung von Events – natürlich immer im gesetzlichen Rahmen – denn wir sorgen uns um unsere Gäste, denen wir Gastfreundschaft, Freundlichkeit, Symphatie und Service entgegenbringen, damit sie Jahr für Jahr widerkommen. In diesen Krisenzeiten müssen wir uns auf das Allgemeinwohl konzentrieren und über den Tellerrand des eigenen Geschäfts hinausschauen. Wir haben mit Reisezielen, welche uns das auf der Insel erfundene Modell abspenstig machen wollen, zu konkurrieren. Es gibt Unternehmen, welche die Musikmarke Ibiza kommerzialisieren, nur weil sie sich verkauft und 'cool' ist, ohne überhaupt etwas mit Ibiza zu tun zu haben. Wir müssen dieses Angebot, uns zu organisieren und unter uns ein mächtiges Cluster zu ent-

Let us take advantage of this proposal to organize ourselves and to develop between all of us a powerful cluster which, without a doubt, will benefit all of us and help to recover the essence of the real Ibiza with which generations fell in love and which many people are already missing. "The industry thought I was nuts when I bought the hotel and introduced this as a all year round hotel in Ibiza, with specially designed hotel rooms focusing on top beds and the bar and lobby designed with new Mies v. d. Rohe and Le Corbusier furniture,” said Marc Rahola, owner of the hotel. “The all year round opening or breakfast all day long were the first of many innovations that gave the island a much needed wakeup call and helped the hotel to differentiate himself in a powerful way and being one of the top locations in Ibiza.” 

Se ha renovado todo el equipamiento con la tecnología más moderna, un interior de gran valor y materiales exclusivos y ha adjuntado 2 Suites. Es el hotel mas nuevo en Ibiza con habitaciones de diseño especial cuyo centro de atención radica en las camas de calidad superior, al igual que el bar de recepción, decorado con Mies van der Rohe y le Corbusier. Rohe und Le Corbusier“; sagt Marc Rahola, Besitzer des Hotels. „Der Ganzjahresbetrieb oder Frühstück bis 16:00 Uhr, waren nur die ersten von vielen Innovationen, die der Insel den schon lange notwendigen „Weckruf“ gab und uns so half, uns eindrucksvoll gegenüber den Mitbewerbern abzuheben und an die Spitze der Top-Hotels der Insel zu bringen.“ Ab 26. The team at the hilltop finca had set themselves a busy schedule for the winter months. They were keen to implement ideas that had been inspired by the old walls as well as schemes that they had been dreaming up during the summer, including plans to adapt one room for disabled access and to increase the size of accommodation in the main building. The main principle that applied throughout the renovation was that the natural charm of the old finca should always take precedence over any modern comforts. The rooms that have now been redone in finca style ooze an authentic cosy atmosphere in which guests can relax and unwind from the stresses and strains of the daily routine. Here on the summit of the hill is an oasis of tranquillity, despite being within easy reach of the attractions of Ibiza Town or Santa Eulalia. Oberstes Gebot bei allen Renovierungsmaßnahmen blieb jedoch, dass der zeitgemäße Komfort sich stets vor dem Charme der alten Finca verneigte. Die im Finca-Stil umgebauten Räume schaffen eine urige, gemütliche Atmosphäre, in der man sich entspannt vom Alltag zurücklehnen kann. Dort auf dem Hügel finden die Gäste eine Insel der Ruhe und sind doch nur wenige Kilometer vom Trubel Ibizas oder Santa Eulalias entfernt. Zukünftig wird das La Colina auch in der Vorund Nachsaison für Events wie Hochzeiten, Jubiläums- u. Geburtstagsfeiern, Firmentreffen oder sonstige Veranstaltungen geöffnet sein. 

Accompanied by a team from the German television channel ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen), she travelled to Ibiza and had a meeting with the Bishop of Ibiza, Sr. D. Vicente Juan Segura. On the same evening, Sabatina gave a reading from her book in the church in Jesús Amongst those attending the event was the Mayor of Santa Eulalia, Vicente Marí, who joined the other extremely interested members of the audience in asking Sabatina some followup questions. Die Lesung und der Dialog sowie mehrere während ihres Ibiza-Aufenthaltes geführte Interviews wurden vom ZDF für die Dokumentationssendung 37 Grad aufgezeichnet, welche am 24. he highlight of Semana Santa (Holy Week) is the impressive Procesión del Santo Entierro that winds its way round the historic walls of Dalt Vila, Sa Penya and La Marina. The presence of so many monks and members of lay orders turns the streets into a sea of colour, as they perform the ancient ritual of the Easter liturgy in their goldembroidered purple, black, white, blue, green and red ceremonial cloaks. The procession moves off from in front of the Cathedral on Good Friday evening. The different fraternities with their pointed hoods and masked faces carry the heavy sacred figures upon their shoulders down to San Telmo church in the harbour, accompanied by the muffled sound of bells and the monotonous rhythm of a drum. Marching bands play solemn music. Splendid reliquaries from all the medieval churches on the island are borne by various cofradías (brotherhoods) through the Old Town, followed by believers in their thousands. Amongst them are several barefoot penitents who – despite the cold weather – engage in self-flagellation. The procession is accompanied by the Bishop of Ibiza - Sr. D. Vicente Juan Segura - and numerous priests.

l punto álgido de la Semana Santa es la impactante «Procesión del Santo Entierro» que discurre por las murallas históricas de Dalt Vila, Sa Penya y La Marina. Los numerosos legos y monjes convierten las calles en un mar de colores al celebrar la liturgia pascual ataviados con ropa festiva de color violeta, negro, blanco, azul, verde o rojo según costumbres ancestrales. La noche del Viernes Santo, la procesión se pone en marcha desde la Catedral. Las hermandades, con el rostro cubierto por el capirote, llevan a hombros las pesadas figuras sacras de la Catedral y las transportan hasta la iglesia San Telmo que hay abajo junto al puerto, con el acompañamiento de campanadas sombrías y monótonos ritmos del tambor. Las bandas de música tocan aires fúnebres. Los majestuosos relicarios de las iglesias medievales de la isla son portados a través del casco viejo por varias hermandades, también conocidas como «cofradías», mientras miles de creyentes acompañan el paso de sus reliquias. Más abajo, a pesar del frío, caminan descalzos algunos penitentes que se flagelan a sí mismos. El obispo de Ibiza - Sr. D. Vicente Juan Segura - y numerosos sacerdotes acompañan la procesión.

Die Straßen wirken dank der vielen Laienbrüder und Mönche wie ein Farbenmeer, wenn sie in violetter, schwarzer, weißer, blauer, grüner oder roter Festkleidung mit goldenen Stikkereien althergebrachten Bräuchen folgend die Osterliturgie feiern. Von der Kathedrale aus setzt sich am Karfreitagabend der Zug in Bewegung. Bruderschaften mit spitzen Hauben und verschleierten Gesichtern tragen auf ihren Schultern die schweren Heiligenfiguren aus der Kathedrale nach unten in die Kirche San Telmo am Hafen, begleitet von dumpfen Glockenschlägen und monotonen Trommelrhythmen. Musikzüge spielen Trauermusik. Prachtvolle Schreine aus den mittelalterlichen Kirchen der Insel werden von mehreren Bruderschaften – den Cofradías – durch die Altstadt getragen, Tausende von Gläubigen begleiten ihre Reliquien. Darunter laufen – trotz der Kälte – etliche barfüßige Büßer, die sich selbst auspeitschen. Der Bischof Ibizas – Sr. D. Vicente Juan Segura – und zahlreiche Priester begleiten die Prozession.

The experience that I gain helped me to see the surprises that photography has to offer. I began to take this art seriously three years ago, when I started to be a self taught photographer. In 2008 I decided to move to Ibiza, and this way I got the chance to do the reportages I wanted for so long. The stay a also helped me to know the photographers from Ibiza and be a member of the photographic group “ Flickeros de Ibiza”. Taking pictures has become a part of my life. Curiosity leads me to different roads in photography; it brought me creativity to start many series like Reportage, the TTV Nude series, the pinhole series DPOV and so many others. Most of my photographs are like journal pages written with light. My work has been dedicated from some time to introspection and direct observation of the self. I find my artwork themes in the most obvious of places and that are, in my immediate surroundings. I do like to experiment all in photography, to be creative in all ways possible. What was the basic reason you left the Muslim religion and converted to Christianity? When I read the Bible I realized how important women were to Jesus and how he protected women that had had sexual relations before entering into wedlock. This really cannot be compared with the Koran, since the latter states specifically that men have the right to beat women if they are not obedient. I asked myself how it was possible that Jesus honoured women, the whole idea of the Bible is to love your enemies, even those who insult and persecute us. This really spoke to me and for that reason I decided to become a Christian.

Das Gesetz der Scharia wird akzeptiert, weil uns von Kindesbeinen an eingeschärft wird, dass man eine Frau töten kann, wenn sie Sex vor der Ehe hat. Im konkreten Fall ist die Familienehre wichtiger als ein Mädchen. Auch meine Mutter hat mir gesagt, dass die Ehre unserer Familie wichtiger sei als ich selbst. In Ihrem Buch berichten Sie, wie oft Sie schon dem Tod entkommen sind. Zurzeit leben Sie in Deutschland unter ständigem Polizeischutz. Wie lebt man mit dem Gedanken zu wissen, dass das eigene Leben aufgrund der Todesliste der Taliban bedroht ist? Ich stehe in Deutschland unter ständigem Polizeischutz, aber es ist sehr schwierig damit zu leben. Aus Sicherheitsgründen will man, dass ich keine Interviews gebe oder im Fernsehen auftrete, um das anzuprangern, was passiert. Have you achieved your dreams? I have always wanted to help women that have been in the same situation as I have. I have my own organisation, Sabatina E.V. So that dream has been accomplished. I am changing the lives of many people and that makes me very happy. These women trust me because they know that I have experienced the same thing that they have and I understand their culture. You have held a first meeting with the American TV presenter Larry King and apparently he’s going to interview you for his famous programme 'Late Night Show' When I met Larry King, he told me he thought that Americans ought to know more about Islam and their way of education. We were talking and he told me that many people take President Obama to be a Christian but don’t believe that he really is one because of his Muslim roots. It’s a belief that is held by many people in the United States... and it makes you think. Talking of human rights and their defence, as you know President Barack Obama has intensified the so-called “war for peace” in Afghanistan What is your opinion of the current ongoing conflicts between the Muslim world and the West? I think that what is happening in Afghanistan and other countries is really sad. But to be honest, I have to say that I am really happy that American and NATO soldiers are in Afghanistan because the Taliban don’t understand dialogue. If you don’t think the same as them you are an enemy that has to be defeated. I sponsor a girls’ school in Afghanistan and last week the director called me to tell me that the girls couldn’t go to school for a week, because the Taliban had forbidden it and told them that if they did, then they would bomb the school. If the American and NATO soldiers had not been there to defend certain positions they would bomb them straight away. Sometimes war is the only answer. If for example, someone breaks into my house and wants to kill my son, it would force me to kill them first. This is what Barack Obama is doing. You don’t believe in diplomacy as a weapon of dissuasion? There are some things that you cannot solve with diplomacy, the Taliban don’t believe in diplomacy, their only diplomacy is Allah. I had a meeting with the son of President Zardari of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto (the son of Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated in 2007) and he said there that they reached a settlement with the Taliban, letting them have a region where they could live according to their customs, their laws, to oppress and kill women, but after a certain time they wanted more land and more power. You cannot talk to these people, if they attack you, you have to defend yourself by attacking them, because there is no other solution.

Apadrino un colegio de niñas en Afganistán y la semana pasada su directora me llamó para decirme que las niñas no podían ir al colegio durante una semana, porque los talibanes lo habían prohibido y si lo hacían bombardearían el colegio. Si las tropas americanas y de la OTAN no estuvieran ahí defendiendo ciertas posiciones les bombardearían en un minuto. Algunas veces la guerra es la única respuesta. Si por ejemplo, alguien entra en mi casa y quiere matar a mi hijo, me obligará a matarle yo primero. Esto es lo que está haciendo Barack Obama. ¿No cree en la diplomacia como arma disuasoria? Hay cosas que no se pueden arreglar con la diplomacia, los talibanes no creen en la diplomacia, su única diplomacia es Alá. Haben sie sich einen Traum erfüllt? Ich wollte schon immer Frauen helfen, die sich in der gleichen Situation befinden, wie es bei mir früher der Fall war. Daher habe ich meine eigene Organisation „Sabatina E.V.“ gegründet. Ja, mein Traum hat sich erfüllt. Ich habe das Leben vieler Menschen zum Guten verändert und das macht mich sehr glücklich. Diese Frauen glauben mir, weil ich die gleichen Dinge wie sie erlebt habe und ihre Kultur kenne. Wie stehen Sie dem offenen Konflikt zwischen der muslimischen und der westlichen Welt gegenüber? Ich bin sehr traurig über das, was gerade in Afghanistan und anderen Ländern geschieht. Aber um ehrlich zu sein, muss ich sagen, dass ich wirklich sehr froh bin, dass die amerikanischen Truppen und die der NATO in Afghanistan sind, weil die Taliban einfach nicht zum Dialog bereit sind. Wenn jemand nicht der gleichen Ansicht wie die Taliban ist, ist er sofort ein Feind, der bekämpft wird. Ich unterstütze zum Beispiel eine Mädchenschule in Afghanistan. Manchmal ist Krieg die einzige Antwort. Wenn jemand zum Beispiel in mein Haus eindringt und meinen Sohn töten will, bin ich gezwungen ihn zuerst zu töten. Das ist genau das, was auch Barack Obama tut. Sie glauben nicht, dass man die Diplomatie als „Abschreckungswaffe“ einsetzen kann? Es gibt Dinge, die sich nicht mit Diplomatie regeln lassen. Die Taliban glauben nicht an Diplomatie, ihre Diplomatie heißt Allah. Ich habe mit dem Sohn des pakistanischen Präsidenten Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto sprechen können (er ist der Sohn der 2007 ermordeten Benazir Bhutto). Er sagte mir, dass man versuchen würde, sich mit den Taliban zu einigen und ihnen eine Region übergeben würde, wo sie nach ihren eigenen Regeln und Gesetzen leben könnten. Is terrorism the only way? They even believe that they do not need weapons because they have the strength of their beliefs. Within 30 years one in every two Germans will be Muslim. They think that Europeans do not have religious beliefs, that the churches are empty and dead and that they will end up converting to Islam. That is why they are building mosques, there are already 2000 of them in Germany and now they are going to build the biggest mosque in Europe in Cologne with a budget of more than 20 million Euros. They have got the economic backing but nobody helps my foundation to contribute to freedom from oppression for women. I don’t think they will manage to dominate the world if we protect ourselves and remain aware of our western beliefs and defend democracy. Do you believe that European democracies ought to be inflexible towards Islamic customs? If someone comes to Europe, they have to adapt to European customs. If I go to another country with different customs, I have to do the same thing. I think it is good that people come, keep their gastronomic and cultural traditions but they have to follow the laws that are in place here. I say: we are happy that you are here, but you have to respect our rules, not yours. 

Yo digo: Queremos que estés aquí, pero has de respetar nuestras reglas, no las tuyas. 

Zu diesem Zweck wollen Sie Moscheen bauen, von denen es bereits 2000 in Deutschland gibt. In Köln soll die größte Moschee Europas mit einem Budget von mehr als 20 Millionen Euro gebaut werden. Sie werden wirtschaftlich unterstützt, doch niemand hilft meiner Stiftung, mit der ich zur Befreiung von unterdrückten Frauen beitrage. Ich denke, dass sie es nicht schaffen werden, die Welt zu beherrschen, wenn wir aufmerksam bleiben und unsere westliche Überzeugung und die Demokratie verteidigen. Glauben Sie, dass die europäischen Demokratien unnachgiebig mit dem Islam umgehen müssen? Wenn jemand nach Europa kommt, muss er sich den europäischen Sitten und Gebräuchen anpassen. Wenn ich in ein Land mit anderen Sitten reise, muss ich schließlich das gleiche tun. Ich denke, man sollte keine Einwände haben, dass die Menschen hier herkommen und ihre gastronomischen sowie kulturellen Gepflogenheiten bewahren, aber sie müssen den hiesigen Gesetzen folgen. Ich sage immer: Sie können gerne hier herkommen, aber müssen dann unseren und nicht mehr ihren Regeln absolute Folge leisten. 

eteran of the Spanish Civil War, muchhonoured ex-academic in the fields of psychology and linguistics, city of Barcelona gold medal-holder and perennial summer resident in Ibiza, Miguel Siguan has witnessed at first hand the extraordinary transformation the island has undergone over the past fifty years. Ibiza Style caught up with him and his charming wife, Mareile, at their home in Santa Eulalia earlier this year. The Ibiza of the early Sixties was very backwards compared to the other Baleares. There were practically no villages, a very high rate of illiteracy and the only paid work to be had was in the fields or in the salt flats. “When we arrived in Santa Eulalia there were only two or three shops in the High Street. It was a world away from the one we knew in Barcelona. My only source of contact with the outside world was the newspaper La Vanguardia. You couldn’t find it in the town but I used to buy a copy from a lad who was studying in Ibiza Town. He’d take the bus – known colloquially as “el camión” - in the morning and buy it for me on the way home at night.” There were no banks then but the owner of a local hostel acted as representative of a bank and would cash cheques for people in Ibiza Town and pay

IBIZA STYLE se reunió con él y su encantadora esposa, Mareile, en su casa en Santa Eulalia. La Ibiza del principio de los 60 estaba muy atrasada comparada con las otras Baleares. Prácticamente no había pueblos, solo Santa Eulalia y San Antonio, el nivel de analfabetismo era muy alto y los únicos trabajos remunerados estaban en el campo o en las salinas. “Cuando llegamos a Santa Eulalia en los años 60 existían solamente algunos negocios en la calle principal. Era un mundo aparte del que conocimos en Barcelona. El periódico La Vanguardia era mi único punto de contacto con el mundo exterior. No la podías comprar en el pueblo pero yo solía tenerla gracias a un chico que estaba estudiando el bachillerato en Ibiza. Tomaba el autobús –entonces llamado “el camión”– por la mañana y me la compraba de vuelta a casa por la noche. Tampoco había sucursales bancarias pero el propietario de una pensión hacia las

Es gab praktisch keine Dörfer und sehr viele Analphabeten. Arbeitsplätze waren nur in der Landwirtschaft und auf den Salzfeldern zu bekommen. “Als wir in Santa Eulalia ankamen, gab es in der Hauptstraße nur zwei bis drei Läden. Es war eine ganz andere Welt als in Barcelona. Meine einzige Verbindung zur Außenwelt war die Zeitung La Vanguardia. In der Stadt Santa Eulalia gab es keine, mir brachte aber ein junger Mann, der in Ibiza Stadt studierte, regelmäßig eine Ausgabe mit. The social hotspot of the town was Sandy’s Bar – quite an institution at that time already where the patrons – mainly foreigners living in the area - exchanged news, whiskey was the preferred tipple and English was spoken. Moreover, it was the attire worn by local women that was to impress him and his wife most. “They went around in traditional costume with huge skirts, their heads covered and a long plait ending in a big bow on their backs. It was a unique sight – you didn’t see it on the mainland or even in Mallorca. I remember a farmer telling me how it was his duty as a kid to repair the alpargatas (rudimentary sandals) of the entire family”. Coming from the city where money dominated all daily transactions, Ibiza’s singular self-sufficiency impressed the academic deeply. “They prepared the cal (limestone), painted the house, grew almonds, apricots, figs and some vegetables, knitted and wove textiles. They didn’t handle money in the course of everyday life. It was a form of barter economy that had gone on for centuries”. At the same time as the Siguans were making the island their preferred location to spend the summer, Ibiza was becoming a Mecca for

Era algo insólito-no veías nada parecido en la península ni en Mallorca. Me acuerdo de que un payés me contaba cómo cuando era joven se ocupaba de hacer las alpargatas de toda la familia”. Viniendo de la ciudad donde el dinero dominaba todas las transacciones cotidianas, la auto-suficiencia singular de la isla le impresionaba profundamente. “Preparaban la cal, pintaban sus casa, cultivaban almendras, albaricoques, higos y algunos hortalizas, las mujeres hilaban y algunas, tejían. Prácticamente eran autosuficientes y apenas manejaban dinero en la vida cotidiana. Era una especie de economía de trueque que había perdurado siglos”. Vor allem die Kleidung, welche von den ortsansässigen Frauen getragen wurde, hatte es Miguel und seiner Frau angetan. “Sie hatten traditionelle Trachten mit riesigen Röcken an, ihre Köpfe waren bedeckt und ihr Haar war zu einem langen Zopf geflochten, der in einem großen Bogen auf ihrem Rücken endete. Dieser Anblick war einzigartig, so etwas konnte man weder auf Mallorca, geschweige denn auf dem Festland sehen. Ein alter Bauer hat mir mal erzählt, dass er als Kind die Alpargatas (eine Art Sandalen) der ganzen Familie reparieren musste”. Der Wissenschaftler kam aus der Stadt, in der Geld das Tagesgeschäft dominierte, und war daher von der Autarkie zutiefst beeindruckt. “Sie bearbeiteten den Cal (Kalkstein), strichen das Haus, züchteten Mandeln, Aprikosen, Feigen und einige Gemüsesorten, strickten und webten Textilien. artists of all hues. Miguel recalls that “It was a brilliant moment in Ibiza. The artists, jewelers, and designers such as Adlib, the craftspeople – especially those working in leather and ceramics – they created a movement unique to the island: the Ibiza style”. The couple came to know personally many of the leading lights - artists, writers and architects including the man who was to design their home, Erwin Broner. “Broner had come here in the ‘30s because he admired the traditional architecture that reminded him of the Bauhaus movement from which he came. I remember him saying how his friend, Faber, had arrived in Barcelona and asked the officials for the cheapest region to live in Spain and they told him, Ibiza. It seems hard to believe nowadays”. Broner was the impulse behind an artistic movement that attracted many artists. We were also friends with Mompó, the artist from Valencia, who used to tell us how the locals threw stones at

him in the streets of Mallorca on account of his outlandish apparel and how, in Ibiza, that never happened to him”. But good times don’t last forever of course and the Siguans witnessed how the ethos of the golden epoch was succeeded by baser motives. The ‘70s saw the introduction of mass tourism, macro-discotheques and rampant speculation as the “get rich quick” culture established itself. The earlier economy was replaced by one based on consumerism. It saddened the couple to see how fast the island changed in those years. “Those in power didn’t handle this process very well. The social changes on the island have been much faster than on the mainland. On Ibiza, we have gone from the Middle Ages to the age of designer drugs in one generation”, he notes with a tinge of regret. During their summer sojourns on the island they would often visit the lesser of the Pitiusas, Formentera. Just the journey to get there on now-legendary boats such as La Joven Dolores and El Manolito was a trial in itself. “The farmers’ wives taking produce to market in Ibiza used to take buckets on board for when they were, invariably, seasick. Then there was the time a German couple were moving all their possessions from Formentera to Ibiza and a suitcase fell overboard and was lost. When it finally turned up again on the quayside of Sa Savina – not a port then –

Durante sus temporadas veraniegas en la isla a menudo hacían excursiones a la menor de las Pitiusas, Formentera. Sólo el viaje para llegar en uno de los legendarios barcos cómo La Joven Dolores o El Manolito presentaba un desafío. “Las payesas llevaban sus productos al mercado en Ibiza y solían llevar cubos consigo para cuando, invariablemente, se mareaban en el mar. Y, en otra ocasión, me acuerdo de cuando una pareja de alemanes se trasladaba de Formentera a Ibiza y su maleta con muchas pertenencias importantes se hundió en el mar y se extravió. Cuando mucho tiempo después reapareció en el embarcadero de Sa Sabina, que

In den Siebzigern fing der Massentourismus an, es kamen die riesigen Diskotheken und zügellose Spekulationen, als sich die “Werde schnell reich”-Kultur etablierte. Die alte Wirtschaft wurde von einer konsumorientierten abgelöst. Die Siguans waren sehr traurig darüber, wie sich die Insel in diesen Jahren veränderte. “Die Mächtigen konnten mit dem Prozess nicht umgehen. Die sozialen Veränderungen auf der Insel gingen schneller als auf dem Festland vonstatten. Wir auf Ibiza sind im Laufe einer Generation vom Mittelalter in das Zeitalter der Designerdrogen gesprungen”, merkt er mit großem Bedauern an. Während ihrer Sommeraufenthalte haben sie auch oft die kleinste der Pitiusen-Inseln, Formentera, besucht. Schon die Reise dorthin auf legendären Schiffen wie “La Joven Dolores” oder “El Manolito” war ein Abenteuer für sich. “ Die Bäuerinnen, welche ihre Produkte auf dem Markt in Ibiza verkaufen wollten, hatten für den

quite a crowd gathered on the quayside to celebrate its safe return! Once there however, they would take long walks and marvel at the spectacular, unspoiled scenery. “My strongest impression is of wandering along the beaches in Ses Illetes and Espalmador for hours without seeing a soul except for one time we came across a pair of French snorkelers. It’s true Espalmador had a watchman, an old farmer who fired salt pellets at anyone who dared to disembark on the islet”. But the idyllic setting captivated them forever. “I retain the image in my mind’s eye of that place as being the bluest, most beautiful spot in the whole of the Mediterranean”. And so as not to spoil that perfect memory, he has never been back since. 

Nach einiger Zeit wurde er am Kai von Sa Sabina – es gab damals noch keinen Hafen - angespült. Es versammelte sich eine Menschenmenge an der Uferstraße und feierte die glückliche Rückkehr! Früher unternahmen die beiden aber auch lange Spaziergänge und bewunderten die spektakuläre, unverdorbene Landschaft. “Meine stärksten Eindrücke bekam ich bei Wanderungen an den Stränden von Ses Illetas und Espalmador, bei denen wir stundenlang keiner Menschenseele begegneten, außer ein Mal ein paar Schnorchlern aus Frankreich. Auf Espalmador gab es auch wirklich einen Wächter, dies war ein alter Bauer, der auf jeden, der sich auf dem Inselchen anzulegen traute, mit Salzkörnern schoss.” Aber die idyllische Szenerie nahm sie für immer gefangen. “Ich habe diesen Ort als den blauesten und wunderschönsten Platz am ganzen Mittelmeer in meinem Herzen bewahrt”. ome bones talk and reveal all sorts of things about people in the past for current and future generations. But if we want to hear their voices, we have to pay attention to the lessons that the stones and objects from daily life give us. Thanks to the Archaeological Museum of Eivissa and Eivissa Town Council, at 11 o'clock in the morning on the last Sunday of every month from now until next June, anyone who is interested in knowing more about our origins will be able to join in the guided, enacted tours carried out by members of two associations of volunteers; the Association of Friends of the aforementioned organisation and the dynamic group Iboshim, aimed at recreating the world of the Phoeni-

cians. This fabulous visual and verbal spectacle does not use real actors, but rather employs people who are willing to demonstrate history in an educational and, at the same time, accessible way. They give classes in the open air within the magical, fenced and well-prepared venue of Puig des Molins burial ground. What's more, they do so on a non-profit basis, purely out of their love of art, culture and traditions. Historian Carmen Mezquida is in charge of the narration - in Spanish - whose detailed explanations whet the curiosity of children and adults alike. For a period of approximately one hour, the public will be able to attend a lifelike performance which transports us to the middle of the seventh century BC, the year 654 to be precise: the date when the city of Eivissa was founded. The event’s organizers speak in the actual languages of each era in order to achieve greater effect. They take pains to wear linen clothes, horsehair helmets, tin armour and realistic iron swords. Thus, without further ado, we are able to enter a time machine and go back to the Phoenician era. The process of burial and the funeral rites of the settlers of that time, the first colonisers of the Pitiüses Islands, are shown in detail. They disembark in sa Caleta and then settle in Dalt Vila, where they go on to excavate the sacred mountain of Puig des Molins in order to honour their dead. The priest, his slave, three mourners that do not stop weeping and, of course, the relatives of the deceased take part in the procession. Various soldiers then make their appearance indicating that the victim was himself a military man, without a doubt an

Este fabuloso espectáculo visual y verbal no dispone de actores de verdad, sino que utiliza a personas deseosas de enseñar de una forma didáctica y, a la vez, amena. Imparten clases al aire libre, en el interior del mágico recinto, vallado y acondicionado, de la necrópolis del Puig des Molins. Además lo hacen sin ánimo de lucro, sólo por amor al arte, la cultura y las tradiciones. De la narración —realizada en idioma español— se encarga la historiadora Carmen Mezquida, que abre los ojos de la curiosidad a pequeños y adultos con sus rigurosas explicaciones. Durante una hora aproximadamente, el público asiste a una lograda representación que nos traslada a mediados del siglo VII antes de Cristo, en concreto al año 654, fecha de la fundación de la ciudad de Eivissa. Los artífices del montaje emplean las lenguas propias de cada época para lograr mayor efecto. No dudan en ponerse vestidos de lino, cascos de cola de caballo, armaduras de latón y realistas espadas de hierro. Así nos adentramos sin más preámbulos en la máquina del tiempo y retrocedemos hasta el período fenicio. Se muestran con detalle los sepelios y los ritos funerarios de los pobladores de entonces, de los primeros colonizadores de las Pitiüses. Desembarcan en sa Caleta y se instalan después en Dalt Vila, donde excavarán la montaña sagrada del Puig des Molins para honrar a sus muertos. En el desfile participan el sacerdote, su esclavo, tres plañideras los parientes del finado. Luego siguen varios soldados, lo cual significa que la víctima era un importante militar. Se incinera el

Die Darsteller sprechen im Rahmen der Inszenierung die Sprachen der damaligen Zeit, um dem ganzen eine dramatischere Wirkung zu verleihen. Such lamentable actions also form part of the sad history of the necropolis: one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the Mediterranean and one which houses between 3.000 and 3.500 graves in the space of its almost 6 hectares of surface area. It’s an invaluable treasure trove that needs to be carefully conserved nowadays. 

Incluso algún personaje ilustre, como el escritor Santiago Rusiñol, confeccionará su valiosa colección privada beneficiándose de ciertos energúmenos sin escrúpulos. Tan lamentables acciones también forman parte de la historia, triste, de la necrópolis, uno de los yacimientos más fascinantes del Mediterráneo, que alberga entre 3.000 y 3.500 hipogeos en sus casi seis hectáreas de superficie. Un botín muy apetitoso que hoy debemos seguir cuidando. 

Die Inszenierung findet mit dem Kapitel über die Römer ihren Ausklang. Ein Phänomen sind Grabplünderungen. Sie nahmen ab 1903 dramatisch aufgrund der Ausgrabungen im Gebiet von Puig des Molins zu. Meistens waren es die Assistenten der Archäologen, die die wertvollsten Stücke, jedoch nicht immer emblematischten Gegenstände, stahlen. Auch einige berühmte Persönlichkeiten, wie z.B. der Schriftsteller Santiago Rusiñol legte seine wertvolle Privatsammlung mit dem Kauf bei skrupellosen Plünderern an. Dabei handelt es sich bei diesem Fundort um einen der faszinierendsten im ganzen Mittelmeerraum, der 3000 bis 3500 Grabbauten auf einem fast sechs Hektar großen Gebiet umfasst. Wir sollten daher nie vergessen, dass die Pflege unserer historischen Schätze auch heute noch obertste Priorität hat, um sie für zukünftige Generationen zu bewahren. 

arc Lindemann had actually been intending to stay away a bit longer but then thought better of it and has now returned from Miami with a new sense of purpose and with fresh ideas for a gastronomic project on the island. He has already found the ideal location in the former Tu Casa restaurant near Jesús on the road to Can Furnet and Roca Llisa. The name his new establishment will go by is MARC`S (Restaurante-Bar-Bistro). The opening party has been set for May 1st. In the meantime, Marc and his partner Jeanette will have their hands full with conversion work on the premises. As under the previous management, there will be an outdoor as well as an indoor bar plus a lounge area where live musical events will be staged. The cuisine in the restaurant can best be described as light, seasonal and Mediterranean fusion. The wine list will contain top wines from all around the world. The Bar and Bistro section will be offering Spanish and international tapas, salads and pasta, as well as Marc Lindemann’s speciality: Nuremberg Bratwurst with Sauerkraut. From May to mid-June, there will be a lunch menu and a bistro menu, while in the evenings, dining will be à la carte. During the rest of the summer, MARC’S will be open only in the evenings, reverting to lunchtime plus evening opening from mid-September onwards. In the summer, it is planned to hold a fish and meat barbecue once a week and a special Fish & Crustacean evening each Friday. MARC’S will stay open all year round. 

n realidad, su intención original era concederse una buena temporada de descanso, pero Marc Lindemann ha terminado por acortar su asueto y regresa de Miami con renovadas energías e ideas nuevas para iniciar un nuevo proyecto gastronómico en la isla. También ha encontrado ya la ubicación apropiada: el antiguo restaurante Tu Casa en Jesús, situado en la carretera a Can Furnet y Roca Llisa. Su futuro nombre será MARC`S (RestauranteBar-Bistro). Previsiblemente, la fiesta de inauguración alzará el telón el 1 de mayo de 2010, y hasta entonces Marc y su compañera Jeanette aprovecharán el tiempo para llevar a cabo una profunda remodelación. Como en los viejos tiempos, el local contará con un bar interior y otro exterior, además de una zona lounge donde también tendrán lugar eventos musicales en directo. La cocina del restaurante ofrecerá un estilo de fusión entre platos ligeros, de temporada y mediterráneos, así como una selecta carta de vinos internacionales. En el bar y el restaurante se pueden degustar tapas nacionales e internacionales, ensaladas y pasta, así como las famosas salchichas de Núremberg acompañadas de chucrut. Desde mayo hasta mediados de junio hay un menú del día y una carta de tapas y aperitivos, mientras que por las noches se puede cenar a la carta. Durante el verano solo abre por la tardenoche, mientras que a partir de mediados de septiembre vuelve el régimen de apertura diurno y nocturno. También está planeado para el verano hacer una vez a la semana una barbacoa de carnes y pescados y destinar los viernes a una velada especial de pescados y mariscos. El Marc’s estará abierto durante todo el año.

Es wird wieder wie in alten Tagen eine Innen- und eine Außen-Bar geben sowie einen Loungebereich, in dem auch musikalische Live Events stattfinden sollen. Die Restaurantküche wird eine leichte, saisonale und mediterrane Fusionsküche sowie eine erlesene internationale Weinkarte bieten. In Bar und Bistro gibt es nationale und internationale Tapas, Salate und Pasta sowie die beliebten Nürnberger Rostbratwürstchen mit Sauerkraut. Von Mai bis Mitte Juni gibt es ein Mittagsmenü und eine Bistrokarte, abends à la carte. Im Sommer ist nur abends geöffnet und ab Mitte September wieder mittags und abends. Im Sommer ist einmal wöchentlich ein Fleischund Fischbarbecue geplant und freitags ein spezieller Fisch- und Krustentierabend. Das Marc’s wird ganzjährig geöffnet sein. 

large number of Ibiza’s media representatives filed reports about Fitur, despite the fact that they weren’t even there. As usual though, IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE was present. The magazine disappeared like hot cakes from the well-attended Balearics trade fair booth which had been redesigned for this year’s event. Visitors, hoteliers and representatives from the Island government as well as the individual ayuntamientos were given their first glimpse of the new IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE online portal. Even King Juan Carlos I of Spain and his wife, Queen Sofia, called in at the Ibiza booth during their walkabout after the opening ceremony. To sum up, this was the most positive Fitur in a long time. This was partly due to the palpable sense that many people have now realised that to stand still means to go backwards, in terms of profits too. And now that so many people have woken up and smelled the coffee, there is every reason to hope that the coming season will turn out to be equally positive. At the forthcoming ITB in Berlin (10th-14th March), IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE will once again be on hand at the Balearics booth in Hall 7.2A/101, presenting the print magazine and its online portal, which features the new reservation system for hotels and restaurants. 

oda una serie de representantes de los medios de Ibiza han hecho públicos distintos artículos sobre Fitur, a pesar de que este año no hayan estado presentes allí. Al contrario, IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE no faltó a su cita habitual con la feria. Los ejemplares de la revista expuestos en el stand ferial de Baleares, dotado de un nuevo estilo y que contó con una nutrida afluencia, cosecharon una gran acogida entre el público. Tanto los visitantes como los hosteleros y representantes municipales y del Gobierno insular presentes obtuvieron las primeras impresiones del nuevo portal online de IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE. En su visita inaugural a la feria, el propio Rey de España, Juan Carlos I, acompañado por su esposa, la Reina Doña Sofía, también pasó por el stand de Ibiza. En pocas palabras, nuestro resumen de Fitur es el siguiente: ha sido la feria más positiva en mucho tiempo. Esto también se debió a que se pudo notar que muchos se han dado cuenta que una parada del movimiento significa necesariamente un retroceso (también en cuanto a ventas). Por tanto, dado que son muchos los que ahora han despertado, existen esperanzas fundadas de que la próxima temporada se pueda entrar en una dinámica positiva. También en la ITB, que se celebrará del 10 al 14 de marzo, IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE presentará para hoteles y restaurantes en el stand de Baleares en el Pabellón 7.2A/101 la edición impresa y el portal online junto con los nuevos sistemas de reservas. 

ine ganze Reihe von Medienvertretern Ibizas berichteten über die Fitur, obwohl sie dieses Jahr gar nicht dort waren. IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE hingegen war wie gewohnt präsent. Die am neu gestylten und stark frequentierten Messestand der Balearen ausgelegten Magazine fanden reißenden Absatz. Die Besucher sowie anwesende Hoteliers und Repräsentanten der Rathäuser und Inselregierung bekamen erste Eindrücke des neuen IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE Online-Portals. Auch Spaniens König Juan Carlos I. und seine Gattin, Königin Sofia kamen bei ihrem Eröffnungsrundgang über die Messe am Stand Ibizas vorbei. Unser Fazit der Fitur in wenigen Worten: es war die positivste Messe seit langer Zeit. Auch deshalb, weil zu spüren war, dass viele erkannt haben, dass Stillstand gleich Rückgang (auch vom Umsatz) bedeutet. Und da viele jetzt aufgewacht sind besteht berechtigte Hoffnung, dass die kommende Saison sich ebenfalls positiv entwickeln könnte. Auch auf der ITB vom 10. bis 14. März wird IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE auf dem Stand der Balearen in Halle 7.2A/101 das Print Magazin und das OnlinePortal mit den neuen Reservierungssystemen Hotel und Restaurants vorstellen. 

How would you promote Eivissa in the world? I think it’s necessary to go for a different kind of tourism with features that make it stand out from other rival destinations with possibilities and options for the whole family. There are many things to enjoy in the island without having to pay extra for them. I believe they should promote genuine tourism that is natural and spectacular at the same time. Eivissa does not need much advertising.

¿Cómo promocionaría Eivissa en el mundo? Hay que apostar por un turismo diferente con una propuesta que le distinga de los demás destinos competitivos con probabilidades y planes para toda la familia. Hay muchas cosas para disfrutar en la isla sin que sea un coste añadido. Creo que hay que fomentar un turismo auténtico, natural y espectacular al mismo tiempo. Eivissa no necesita publicidad.

You seem to be the eternal optimist or the woman with a permanent smile. How do you manage it with everything that’s happening in the world? When I was born I said: I’m an optimist and I don’t complain, but I can also be very hard about certain things. I like the good things in life and try to enjoy them.

Usted parece ser la eterna optimista o la mujer de la sonrisa perpetua. ¿Cómo lo consigue con la que está cayendo en el mundo? Cuando nací dije: Soy optimista y no me quejo, pero también soy muy dura para ciertas cosas. Me gustan las cosas buenas de la vida y trato de disfrutarlas.

Do you keep that spirit up when faced with life – and even love’s – adversities and setbacks? You’ve got to be optimistic, but also realistic and face up to things as they come along. Optimism is very healthy and, what’s more, I have got lots of energy,and a great need to get back on my feet again.

¿Mantiene ese espíritu ante las adversidades y los contratiempos de la vida e incluso del amor? Hay que ser optimista, pero también realista y afrontar las cosas cuando llegan. El optimismo es muy sano, tengo, además, mucha energía, mucha necesidad y ganas de remontar.

Are you tightening the belt much in this period of economic hardship and all kinds of difficulties? We are all tightening the belt and by being cautious we can go forward. I think you have got to do things in moments like this when the future is uncertain. You have to be prudent. Is fashion also feeling the pinch? The fashion and beauty sector is not feeling the effects of the crisis so much because people want to take care so that they can feel good about themselves. Spending on other things that are non-essential has gone down at the moment but not on clothes and looking after one’s image. 

¿Se aprieta mucho el cinturón en esta época de dificultades económicas y de todo tipo? Todos nos apretamos el cinturón y siendo cautos avanzaremos. Pienso que hay que hacer cosas en momentos como este que el futuro es incierto. Hay que ser prudente. ¿La moda también sufre la crisis? El sector de la moda y la estética no sufre tanto la crisis porque la gente quiere cuidarse para sentirse bien en su piel. Se reduce el gasto en otras cosas que no son imprescindibles en estos momentos, pero no el vestir y el cuidado de la imagen. 

Mein Haus ist Licht durchflutet und erstrahlt in den Farben Ibizas. Suchen Sie mehr als nur Sonne, Strand und Nachtleben? Ja, das ursprüngliche Ibiza, wenn ich z. B. an Bord eines Bootes in einer kleinen Bucht schlafen kann, um Energie und Kraft zu tanken. Ich stamme vom Land und nehme in meinem Urlaub nicht stark am gesellschaftlichen Leben teil. Ehrlich gesagt mag ich’s lieber gemütlich. Auf welche Art sollte man für Ibiza weltweit werben? Wir müssen uns auf ein Tourismusangebot konzentrieren, das sich von Konkurrenzzielen unterscheidet und Möglichkeiten und Angebote für die ganze Familie bewerben. Man kann auf dieser Insel ohne zusätzliche Kosten so viele schöne Dinge unternehmen. Ich denke, man sollte den authentischen, naturverbundenen Tourismus, aber auch Tourismus-Events fördern. Doch eigentlich braucht Ibiza gar keine Werbung. Sie scheinen eine ewige Optimistin und eine Frau mit einem nie aufhörenden Lächeln zu sein. Wie schaffen Sie das nur in einer Welt, in der sich zurzeit alles nur um Krisen dreht? Nach meiner Geburt habe ich mir sofort gesagt „Ich bin Optimistin und werde mich nie beklagen“. In Bezug auf gewisse Dinge kann ich auch schwierig sein, aber ich mag die schönen Dinge des Lebens und versuche, sie zu genießen. Versuchen Sie diese Lebenseinstellung in schlechten und unangenehmen Zeiten beizubehalten, auch was die Widrigkeiten der Liebe betrifft? Man sollte optimistisch, aber auch realistisch sein und dem Leben die Stirn bieten, wenn es einen erwischt. Der Optimismus hält fit, ich habe jede Menge Energie und möchte gerne vieles anpacken und umsetzen. Müssen auch Sie den Gürtel in diesen wirtschaftlich schwierigen Zeiten enger schnallen? Wir müssen uns alle den Gürtel enger schnallen und vorsichtiger sein. Ich glaube aber, dass es auch wichtig ist, Dinge in diesen unsicheren Zeiten anzugehen. Man sollte dabei eben nur besonnen sein. Leidet die Mode auch unter der Krise? Die Mode- und Schönheitsindustrie leidet nicht so stark unter der Krise, da sich die Menschen immer noch pflegen, um sich wenigsten in ihrer Haut wohl fühlen zu können. Die Leute machen eher Einschnitte bei Sachen, die in dieser Zeit nicht von entscheidender Bedeutung sind, aber nicht bei der Kleidung und dem Aussehen. 

Last February - and within the program of Santa Agnès patron saint festivities for the second year running - the farmhouse of sa Rota d’en Coca hosted a simple exhibition of homemade

charcoal production which was attended by a number of people keen to acquire rudimentary knowledge of a centuries-old practice that has almost disappeared in the Pitiusas islands. The magnificent panoramas of Pla de Corona — even if the almond blossom had still not made its splendid white appearance — were an added invitation to take part in a popular gathering that, little by little, turned into a genuine ‘xacota’. Farmers’ wine, sausages, ‘cafè caleta’, folklore and music created just the right atmosphere for the occasion: a far cry from nostalgia but still respectful of the history of this rural parish in the north of Eivissa. In spite of being in retirement, Miquel Costa Bonet, of can Miquel Trull, was in charge of helping out with lighting the fire: no easy task owing to the wind. The logs are placed one on top of another horizontally, the thickest ones at the bottom and are then covered with fallen leaves. This will help to achieve the right level of combustion, which demands strict vigilance and control that must be kept up 24 hours a day. «Pine is the lowest quality wood. The best wood comes from oak trees, almonds and carob trees. It must be burned slowly and neither at too high nor too low a temperature to avoid producing simple ashes instead of charcoal. The deposit must be well tended, covering the flues with earth and oxygenating it when required as it could explode because of the smoke and the gases it emits», Miquel explains. On the whole, the dry wood burns for three days.

sencilla muestra de la fabricación artesanal de carbón a la que asistieron numerosas personas interesadas en adquirir conocimientos básicos acerca de una práctica centenaria y ya casi desaparecida en las Pitiüses. Las magníficas panorámicas del Pla de Corona —aunque los almendros todavía no ofrecían un aspecto esplendorosamente blanco— invitaron a tomar parte en un encuentro popular que, poco a poco, se transformó en una auténtica ‘xacota’. El vino payés, los embutidos, el ‘cafè caleta’, el folclore y la música crearon un ambiente propicio para la ocasión, alejado de la nostalgia pero respetuoso con la historia de esta parroquia rural del norte de Eivissa. Pese a estar jubilado, Miquel Costa Bonet, de can Miquel Trull, se encargó de echar una mano en las tareas, nada fáciles debido al viento, del encendido del fuego. Los troncos se colocan uno sobre otro en posición horizontal, los más gruesos al fondo, y se recubren de hojarasca. Ello facilitará la combustión adecuada, que exige una estricta vigilancia, un control que se prolonga durante las veinticuatro horas del día. «El pino es la madera de menor calidad. La mejor procede de las belloteras, los almendros y los algarrobos. Debe quemarse sin prisas, ni demasiado fuerte ni excesivamente suave, para evitar que, en lugar de carbón, elaboremos simple ceniza. Hay que cuidar bien el depósito, tapando con tierra los escapes y oxigenando cuando se requiera. Podría llegar a reventar a causa del humo y los gases emanados», explica Miquel. Februar und zum zweiten Mal im Rahmen des Patronatsfestes von Santa Agnès Veranstaltungsort für eine traditionelle Handwerksdarbietung zum Thema Holzkohleherstellung, an der viele Interessierte teilnahmen, um mehr über die seit Jahrhunderten verbreitete und auf den Pitiusen fast verschwundene Praxis der Kohleproduktion zu erfahren. Der fantastische Panoramablick über die Pla de Corona lud wieder einmal ein, an dieser so beliebten Zusammenkunft teilzunehmen, die sich schon bald in eine authentische „Xacota“ (Party) verwandelte, obwohl die Mandelbäume leider noch nicht ihr prachtvolles weißes Blütenmeer entfaltet hatten. Landwein, aromatisierter „Cafè caleta“, Folklore und musikalische Darbietungen taten dazu ihr Bestes - ohne Nostalgie aufkommen zu lassen, aber mit viel Hochachtung vor dieser ländlichen Gemeinde im Norden Ibizas. Obwohl Miquel Costa Bonet aus dem Haus Can Miquel Trull eigentlich schon im Ruhestand ist, legte er beim Anzünden des Feuers selbst mit Hand an, was aufgrund des Windes keine einfache Sache war. Die Holzscheite wurden einer nach dem anderen waagerecht übereinandergelegt, wobei die größten nach hinten kamen und mit Laub bedeckt wurden. Dies erleichtert im Allgemeinen die richtige Verbrennung, doch erfordert auch eine strenge Kontrolle 24 Stunden am Tag. „Die Qualität des Pinienholzes ist zu schlecht dafür. Am Besten geeignet ist das Holz der Steineiche, des Mandelbaumes oder des Johannisbrotbaums. Das Holz muss langsam verbrannt werden, wobei

Up to a dozen sacks – enough for a a family’s use – might come out of the ‘sitja’ of sa Rota d’en Coca. In the past it was very different. In the spring, which was the ideal time, huge kilns capable of generating up to two tonnes of charcoal were built, which was sent to the kitchens and chimneys of Ibiza Town. «We used to take it down by cart and sell it to the owners of the stores in the city. They paid four pesetas per kilo: it wasn’t a very profitable business since it required a great deal of work and sacrifice. We used to cut down the trees with handheld saws. It was really hard work. At that time, people did not have domestic appliances and they used to make do with what we took them» the old farmer and salt flats worker from Santa Ines recalls. He has six and a half decades of experience to back up his words. «It was an important economic activity. The charcoal was even exported to the mainland on board the ‘Pedro’, a boat that was specially used for this job. The farmers used to keep the woods clean and there were not as many forest fires as today. We used to make two or three ‘sitges’ a year, enough to get by. The rest of the time I devoted to sowing, harvesting and reaping crops». That is how he lived then and that is how he remembers it now. 

Pagaban cuatro pesetas por kilo, no resultaba un negocio rentable puesto que exigía mucho esfuerzo y sacrificio. Cortábamos los árboles con sierras manuales. Era un trabajo durísimo. En aquella época la gente carecía de electrodomésticos y se apañaba con lo que les llevábamos», rememora el viejo campesino y salinero de Corona. Seis décadas y media de experiencia avalan sus palabras. «Se trataba de una actividad económica importante. El carbón incluso se exportaba a la Península a bordo del ‘Pedro’, un barco destinado a estos menesteres. Los payeses manteníamos limpios los bosques y no se registraban tantos incendios forestales. Hacíamos dos o tres ‘sitges’ al año, lo suficiente para ir tirando. El resto del tiempo me dedicaba a sembrar, cosechar y segar». Así se vivía entonces, así se recuerda ahora. 

Damals wurde im Frühjahr in großen Kohlenmeilern, die jeweils zwei Tonnen produzieren konnten, genügend Holzkohle zur Befeuerung der Küchenöfen und Kamine in Ibiza Stadt hergestellt. „Wir brachten die Holzkohle damals im Wagen in die Stadt und verkauften sie an die Lagerhalter. Sie zahlten vier Peseten pro Kilo, es war also nicht gerade ein rentables Geschäft und erforderte viel Mühe und Opfer. Wir mussten zum Zerkleinern der Bäume noch Handsägen benutzen. Es war harte Arbeit. Man hatte keine elektrischen Geräte und musste die Arbeit von Hand bewältigen“, erinnerte sich der alte Landwirt und Salinenarbeiter aus Corona. Sechseinhalb Jahrzehnte Berufserfahrung unterstreichen die Bedeutung seiner Schilderungen. „Es war ein wichtiger Wirtschaftszweig. Die Kohle wurde an Bord des Transportschiffes „Pedro“ sogar aufs Festland gebracht. Wir Landwirte kümmerten uns um die Wälder und daher gab es auch nicht so viele Waldbrände wie heute. Wir haben früher zwei oder drei „Sitges“ pro Jahr angelegt, mehr als genug, um über die Runden zu kommen. Den Rest meiner Zeit habe ich mit dem Aussähen, Ernten und Mähen zugebracht.“ So lebte man damals – und wird es hoffentlich nie vergessen. 

e all know the beauty of Formentera’s beaches, its crystalline waters and awe-inspiring cliffs. But the lesser of the two Pitiusas Islands not only possesses these areas of demonstrable appeal to tourists but also features within it a potential that combines unspoilt natural landscapes with the presence of archaeological sites, defence towers, lighthouses, ruins and rural homes, many of them hundreds of years old and of considerable architectural importance. A journey around the island’s interior allows us to become familiar with this, more genuine Formentera where rural activities continue to be practiced as well as fishing with traditional techniques. All of these elements together make the island a unique place and in order to guarantee that it remains being so, the new Territorial Island Plan for Formentera contains the island’s cultural heritage catalogue. The document contains all of the elements catalogued as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) among which are included the 360 fishermen’s huts built by the island’s fishermen with old pieces of wood washed up by the sea and where the boats and necessary tools are kept for artisanal style fishing activity.

odos conocemos la belleza de las playas de Formentera, sus aguas cristalinas y los impresionantes acantilados. Pero la menor de las Pitiusas no solo posee esas áreas de demostrado atractivo turístico, sino que también dispone de un potencial en su interior en la que se combina el paisaje rural con la presencia de enclaves arqueológicos, torres de defensa, faros, ruinas y casas rurales muchas de ellas centenarias y de gran importancia arquitectónica. El recorrido interior por la isla nos permite acercarnos a la Formentera más auténtica donde la actividad rural se continúa desarrollando, así como la pesca con artes tradicionales. Todos estos elementos en su conjunto hacen de la isla un enclave único y para garantizar que lo siga siendo, el nuevo Plan Territorial Insular de Formentera contiene el catálogo de Patrimonio Cultural de la isla. El documento contiene todos los elementos catalogados Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) entre los que se incluyen las 360 casetas varadero confeccionadas con antiguas maderas devueltas por el mar por los pescadores de la isla y donde se guardan las embarcaciones y los enseres necesarios para el desarrollo de la actividad pesquera de carácter artesanal.

Doch die kleinere der beiden Pityuseninseln ist nicht nur eine Touristenattraktion, sondern hat im Inselinneren ein beeindruckendes Potenzial an ursprünglicher Landschaft, wichtigen archäologischen Fundstätten, Wehr- und Leuchttürmen, Ruinen sowie vielen mehr als hundert Jahre alten Landhäusern von hoher architektonischer Bedeutung. Auf einer Wanderung durch den inneren Teil der Insel lernt der Besucher das authentische Formentera kennen, wo die Landwirtschaft wie auch die Fischerei und das traditionelle Handwerk fortbestehen. Alle diese Elemente zusammen machen aus der Insel einen einzigartigen Ort. Um das Eiland so zu erhalten, wie es ist, wurde der neue Raumordnungsplan (PTI) zur katalogischen Erfassung Formenteras ins Leben gerufen. Das Dokument selbst enthält alle Bauwerke und Orte, die als kulturell bedeutende Grundbesitztümer (BIC) gelten. Dazu gehören 360 aus altem Treibholz von den heimischen Fischern gefertigte Bootshäuser, in denen nicht nur Boote sondern auch für das traditionelle

Also within the BIC included in the heritage catalogue figure 24 elements situated within the Natural Park of ses Salines and another 86 located in the historical quarters that surround the island’s three churches. Formentera’s cultural heritage catalogue also lists 123 archaeological sites, 71 wells, 35 underground cisterns, 21 water tanks and 13 watermills. At the same time, the island’s three lighthouses are included: that of La Mola erected in 1861 which possesses the original lens made in Paris, that of es Cap de Barbería and that of la Illa d’en Pou; the latter two installed in Formentera during the second half of the XXth century, as well as the defensive towers built during the XVIth century. All these heritage assets have been given the “A” grade of complete protection, which means that they cannot be altered but their original state can be restored and maintained. The Formentera cultural heritage catalogue includes, what’s more, all of the aforementioned 150 farmhouses built prior to1956. También dentro de los BIC incluidos en el catálogo patrimonial figuran 24 elementos ubicados en el Parc Natural de ses Salines y otros 86 situados en los núcleos históricos que rodean las tres iglesias de la isla. El catálogo de Patrimonio Cultural de Formentera enumera además 123 yacimientos arqueológicos, 71 pozos, 35 aljibes, 21 cisternas y 13 molinos de agua. Asimismo se incluyen los tres faros de la isla, el de La Mola construido en 1861y que cuenta con la óptica original fabricada en París, el de es Cap de Barbería y el de la Illa d’en Pou estos dos instalados en Formentera en la segunda mitad del siglo XX, así como las torres de defensa construidas durante el siglo XVI. Todos estos bienes patrimoniales tienen el grado de protección integral de nivel “A”, lo que significa que no se pueden modificar pero si restaurar y mantener su estado original. El catálogo de Patrimonio de Formentera incluye además de todos los bienes antes mencionados, 150 casas payesas construidas antes del año 1956. Die beiden anderen Leuchttürme (Cap de Barbería und Illa d’en Pou) wurden Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts errichtet. Die ebenfalls katalogisierten Wehrtürme wurden dagegen schon im 16. Jahrhundert gebaut. Alle diese genannten Bauten sind als schützenswert eingestuft und werden der Kategorie „A“ zugerechnet. Sie dürfen daher nicht verändert, jedoch renoviert bzw. im ursprünglichen Zustand erhalten werden. the municipal census in the same year which contains all the information of the dispersed farmhouses, the genealogy of their owners, a map of paths adjacent to the houses and another topographical one. All of this information allows us to obtain an image of “pre-tourism” Formentera for which reason it was decided to include all of the country houses built prior to 1956. In order to understand the general characteristics of this kind of building we may refer to what the Formenteran architect Marià Castello writes in relation to them in the Encyclopedia of Formentera.Castelló says that “in a society that was based on the self sufficient family economy, based on small-scale farming, the isolated house constitutes the most characteristic kind of building in popular architecture in Formentera. The style of building which was established on the island from the XVIII century on and which lasted until the middle of the XIX century is an adaptation of the traditional Ibizan farmhouse. Simpler and more modest, it was always built with materials to be found in the surrounding area (sandstone, pine and sabina wood, seaweed, clay and limestone). Alle diese Informationen geben ein aufschlussreiches Bild über das ursprüngliche Formentera bevor es zum beliebten Touristenziel wurde. Aus diesem Grund entschloss man sich, nur alle vor 1956 errichteten Landhäuser in den Katalog aufzunehmen. Um mehr über die allgemeinen Merkmale dieser Gebäude zu erfahren, möchten wir den aus Formentera stammenden Architekten Marià Castello bzw. seinen Fachbeitrag in der Enzyklopädie für Formentera zitieren. Castello führt aus, dass „es sich bei diesen isoliert voneinander errichteten traditionellen Gebäuden um die typische volkstümliche Architektur für die auf autarken kleinen Familienbetrieben basierende Wirtschaft Formenteras handelt. Diese Art des Hausbaus nahm ihren Anfang im 18. Jahrhundert und blieb bis Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bestehen, wobei es sich hierbei um eine Adaption der traditionellen ibizenkischen Häuser handelt. ings were placed such as pathways, ovens, water tanks, irrigation channels, wells, stables and dry stone walls which are so characteristic of the landscape in Formentera. They are the product of clearing the landscape and serve to establish the property’s limits”. The Formentera cultural heritage catalogue establishes a level of protection ranked as “B” for 20 of these traditional houses which means that their size, structure and façade may not be altered, although their internal layout may be adapted to modern day use whereas the remaining houses catalogued are given the “C” level of protection which allows them to be extended as long as the property is not spoiled. Some of these traditional houses are available for rent by tourists and feature in the guide to “Houses in the rural environment” which the Formentera Island Council’s Department of Tourism has published and which was officially presented at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid (FITUR) last January. 

Algunas de estas viviendas antiguas están disponibles para su alquiler turístico y figuran en la guía “Casas en el Entorno Rural” editada por la Consellería de Turismo del Consell Insular de Formentera y que ha sido presentada de manera oficial en la Feria Internacional de Turismo de Madrid (FITUR) el pasado mes de enero. 

Rund um das Haus wurden Wege, Öfen, Zisternen, Sammel- und Tiefbrunnen, Stallanlagen sowie Trockenmauern angelegt – alle diese Elemente prägen seit Jahrhunderten die Landschaft Formenteras. Die Flurbereinigung diente auch zur Abgrenzung der Landhausanlage.“ Dem Kulturerbekatalog Formenteras zufolge wurden 20 der traditionellen Häuser als schützenswerte Bauten als Kategorie „B“ eingestuft. Diese Einstufung schreibt vor, dass weder die Größe, Struktur noch die Fassade des Gebäudes verändert werden darf. Änderungen im Hausinneren zur Anpassung an Standards der heutigen Zeit sind jedoch erlaubt. Die restlichen katalogisierten Häuser wurden der Kategorie „C“ zugeordnet, die im Rahmen bleibende Änderungen erlaubt, so lange das Haus nicht durch Baumaßnahmen unkenntlich gemacht wird. Einige dieser historischen Häuser können von Touristen gemietet werden. Sie können alle dem Informationsheft „Casas en el Entorno Rural“, das von der Consellería de Turismo del Consell Insular de Formentera veröffentlicht wird, entnommen werden. Die Informationsbroschüre wurde offiziell im Rahmen der Tourismusmesse FITUR im Januar dieses Jahres vorgestellt. 

t has rained a lot this winter. At the end of January, earlier than usual, there was an explosion of almond blossom, white and delicate pink. It suddenly looked as though the branches were covered in snow. Rather thoughtless of nature. For a single breath of frost can wipe out the entire almond crop. But the temperature rarely falls below freezing. And if a couple of snowflakes happen to fall from the skies, it is the topic of conversation for weeks. Up on the plateau of La Mola, at the dizzying height of 192metres, someone is said to have made a snowball. I’m not sure about that. And that people might even have considered buying a sledge belongs in the realms of fantasy. However, it is a fact than one morning my ducks simply couldn’t believe their eyes. When they tried to dive into their little pond, they slid on a thin layer of ice. The abundant rainfall has made wild flowers shoot up on fallow land. For half a month, the fields were blue, then they turned bright yellow.

ste invierno llovió muchísimo. Las flores del almendro, con sus tonos blanco y rosa suave, brotaron ya a finales de enero, antes de lo habitual. De repente parecía que las ramas se hubieran llenado de nieve. Algo bastante imprudente por parte de la naturaleza, ya que un simple aliento helado puede echar a perder toda la cosecha de la almendra. No obstante, es muy raro que las temperaturas caigan bajo cero, y un par de copitos de nieve se convierten en tema de conversación durante semanas. Parece que en la meseta de La Mola, que alcanza los 192 metros de altura, alguien hizo una bola de nieve. Bueno, qué sé yo... Luego está la historia de que la gente llegó a pensar en comprarse un trineo... En fin, eso forma parte de la leyenda. Sin embargo, lo cierto es que una buena mañana mis patos se quedaron mirando como atontados. Cuando se lanzaron a su pequeño estanque como de costumbre, se vieron resbalando sobre una fina superficie de hielo.

n diesem Winter hatte es viel geregnet. Früher als gewöhnlich, schon Ende Januar, platzten weiß und zartrosa die Mandelblüten. Plötzlich sah es aus, als läge Schnee auf den Zweigen. Ziemlich unvorsichtig von der Natur. Denn ein einziger Frosthauch kann die gesamte Mandelernte zunichte machen. Doch nur selten sinken die Temperaturen bis zum Gefrierpunkt. Und sollten dann doch mal ein paar Schneeflocken vom Himmel fallen, ist das ein Gesprächsthema für Wochen. Auf der Hochebene La Mola, ganze 192 Meter hoch, soll jemand einen Schneeball geformt haben. Na, ich weiß nicht. Auch dass Leute den Kauf eines Schlittens erwogen haben, gehört ins Reich der Legenden. Tatsache jedoch ist, dass meine Enten an einem Morgen dumm guckten. Als sie in ihren kleinen Teich tauchen wollten, rutschten sie über eine dünne Eisfläche. Der reichliche Regen hat auf den Brachen die Wildblumen üppig sprießen lassen. Einen halben Monat lang waren die Felder blau, dann

And after that, the white rock roses came into flower. But there is no point in picking them to make a posy. You won’t even get them home before they lose their petals. At the roadside the yellow wood sorrel, which originates from the Cape of Good Hope, is now growing, bright green with yellow flowers. It is not known whether seafarers deliberately imported the plant as animal fodder or brought the seed back with them on their clothing by chance. At any rate, this clover with its slightly bitter taste and flowers that only open in sunshine has taken over vast stretches of land in the past two hundred years.

Las lluvias abundantes habían hecho brotar multitud de flores silvestres en las tierras de barbecho. Los campos estuvieron azules durante medio mes, y más tarde se iluminaron de amarillo. Después florecieron las blancas flores de jara. No tiene ningún sentido cortarlas para hacer un ramo: no le da a uno tiempo ni de llegar a casa y ya se les han caído los pétalos. Junto a los caminos florece ahora el vinagrillo, con su verde profundo y sus flores amarillas, una especie cuya región de origen se encuentra en torno al cabo de Buena Esperanza. No se sabe exactamente si los marinos trajeron esta planta a propósito como forraje para el ganado o si las semillas llegaron de forma fortuita

Am Wegesrand wächst jetzt, sattgrün mit gelben Blüten, der Nickende Sauerklee, der seine Heimat am Kap der Guten Hoffnung hat. Ob Seefahrer diese Pflanze bewusst als Viehfutter eingeführt oder als Samen zufällig in der Kleidung mitgebracht haben, ist nicht geklärt. Jedenfalls hat dieser Klee mit dem leicht säuerlichen Geschmack und den Blüten, die sich nur bei Sonnenschein öffnen, in zwei Jahrhunderten weite Landstriche erobert.

Toni: his hands are rough, his voice is high Toni is a mason, but not one who works with cement. Toni can do what very few others on Formentera can do: he builds beautiful dry stone walls in the traditional way by layering stones without using any mortar. First he stretches out a piece of string to act as a guideline. Then he lays the large stones in two layers along the length of the string. He is very precise in his work, knocking off a protruding corner here, filling a space there. For the wall to support itself without the use of any bond, it has to be somewhat tapered. The gaps between the outer stones, Toni fills with small rocks. Along the top of the wall he lays flat coping stones which have been broken up on the shore and can withstand the sun and rain. Toni’s hands are rough and his voice is unusually high. When he approaches a house, he doesn’t call out “Hola” but his own name. It sounds like the call of a bird, “Ton-nii, Ton-nii!” An endearing habit and one which is well worth emulating. I would be happy if everyone who approaches my house would call out their name. The farmhouses have no doorbells, not even a garden gate. All doors are left open. The locals signal their approach as a matter of course, visitors hardly ever. They suddenly appear in front of you in the living room or beside your bed as if they have sprung out of the earth,

Toni: manos ásperas, voz clara Toni es albañil, pero no uno de esos que trabajan con cemento. Quedan ya muy pocas personas en Formentera que sepan hacer lo mismo que Toni: sin usar mortero, apila a la antigua usanza piedras sin labrar y crea así maravillosos muros naturales. En primer lugar, tensa una cuerda a modo de pauta. Después coloca las grandes piedras en dos capas a lo largo de la cuerda. Realiza este trabajo con gran meticulosidad, retocando una esquina que sobresale por aquí, desplazando una piedra por allá. Para que pueda sustentarse por sí mismo y sin ningún aglutinante, el muro debe tener una forma algo cónica. Toni rellena con guijarros los huecos que van quedando entre las piedras exteriores. En la corona del muro dispone piedras lisas rotas en la costa, que resisten largo tiempo los efectos de la lluvia y el sol. Las manos de Toni son ásperas, pero su voz tiene una claridad fuera de lo común. Cuando se acerca a una casa, no saluda con un «¡Hola!» convencional, sino que emplea su propio nombre. Suena como la llamada de un pájaro: «¡Tonnii!, ¡Ton-nii!» Sin duda, una costumbre

Toni kann, was nur noch wenige auf Formentera können: Er schichtet die Feldsteine nach alter Art, ganz ohne Mörtel, zu wunderschönen Natursteinmauern. Zuerst spannt er eine Schnur als Richtlinie. Dann legt er die großen Felsbrocken in zwei Schichten entlang dieser Schnur. Ganz pingelig ist er bei dieser Arbeit, schlägt hier eine vorstehende Ecke ab, rückt dort einen Stein nach. Die Mauer muss, um sich selbst ohne Bindemittel zu stützen, etwas konisch sein. Die Lücken zwischen den Außensteinen füllt Toni mit kleinen Felsbrocken. Auf die Mauerkrone legt er flache Steine, die an der Küste gebrochen wurden und Regen und Sonne lange widerstehen. Tonis Hände sind rau, seine Stimme ist seltsam hell. Ich wäre froh, wenn jeder, der sich meinem Haus nähert, seinen Namen riefe. Es gibt an den Bauernhäusern keine Klingel, nicht mal eine Gartenpforte, alle Türen stehen offen. Die Einheimischen machen sich grundsätzlich bemerkbar, die Besucher fast nie, stehen plötzlich wie aus dem Boden gewachsen vor einem, in der Sala oder am Bett,

and ask the way to the beach. Back to walls. There are places on the Island where people lay things out on a wall that they no longer need, but are still serviceable. Many a person has found kitchen equipment in full working order, or an immaculate, clean and neatly folded pullover in these places, usually next to the dustbins. And perhaps he replaces these with a paperback he has already read, as it hurts to throw books away. No municipal by-law, no sign, not even any form of bargaining. But it works!  to be continued

En las casas del campo no hay timbres, a veces ni siquiera hay un portón en el jardín, todas las puertas están abiertas. La mayoría de los lugareños saben hacerse notar, pero los foráneos se te plantan allí en la sala o junto a la cama de repente, como surgidos de la nada, y preguntan cómo se llega a la playa. Pero volvamos a los muros. Hay sitios en la isla donde la gente deja sobre los muros cosas que ya no necesita pero que siguen estando en buen estado. Más de uno se ha encontrado allí, casi siempre cerca de la basura, electrodomésticos intactos o un jersey inmaculado, incluso doblado como Dios manda. Y quizá haya dejado en su lugar algún libro de bolsillo ya leído... ¿acaso no da pena tirar libros a la basura? Ni reglas, ni letreros. Ni siquiera una conversación... ¡pero funciona!  continuará...

También podría haber salido del hotel por la tarde y tomar un ferry hasta Ibiza, pero eso habría terminado por llamarle a alguien la atención. land, but they didn’t stay in their hotel room any later than twelve o’clock, because otherwise they would have had to pay for another night. A precipitous departure would have made Hamm look suspicious if he came to the attention of the police. Sitting in the Bar Verdera, eating a helping of spicy, lukewarm pulpo gallega off a wooden board, he tried to get his thoughts into some kind of order. What would happen now? The first scenario was that Lu’s body would neatly rule itself out of the picture by either sinking or drifting towards Morocco, never to be seen again. That would be perfect, the ideal solution. Hamm would then have all the time in the world to decide whether he should tell Lisa the truth. Or part of it. And if so, which part. The second, less favourable possibility was that Lu didn’t sink. That his body and clothes had been caught on the rocks and would be seen by walkers on the cliffs or discovered by the crew of a yacht cruising the secluded coves. Occasionally there were locals who fished for their families or their restaurants in small cutters right under the cliffs. There was a small harbour on La Mola where just such boats were moored. If this happened, the wheels of the Spanish police system would start to turn. At a snail’s pace maybe, but inexorably nonetheless. And what Hamm absolutely had to avoid was getting caught up in those wheels. Not that he considered the Spanish police to be particularly corrupt or fascistic or xenophobic. Much worse than that. The Guardia Civil had never fully recovered from the shock of being downgraded from being Franco’s feared, almost omnipotent, brutal Praetorian Guard to a force which had to adhere, more or less, to the rule of law. In the early years of democracy, the Civil Guard were often derided and spat upon. It was not exactly the crème de la crème of the younger generation who joined the Guardia

se quedaban hasta después de las doce en la habitación del hotel, porque eso suponía tener que pagar otra noche. Una salida precipitada convertiría inmediatamente a Hamm en sospechoso si la policía le echaba el ojo. En el Bar Verdera, donde comió una ración templada de pulpo aliñado servido en la típica tabla de madera, intentó poner en orden sus pensamientos. Y ahora... ¿qué? En primer lugar, el cadáver de Lu podía haber tenido la amabilidad de quitarse por sí mismo de en medio, bien hundiéndose en el fondo, bien entonando para siempre el «adiós con el corazón» rumbo a Marruecos. Eso sería ya perfecto, miel sobre hojuelas. Entonces Hamm tendría todo el tiempo del mundo para reflexionar si debía decirle la verdad a Lisa. La verdad... o una parte. Y, en caso afirmativo, qué parte. La segunda posibilidad, no tan propicia, era que el bueno de Lu no se hubiera hundido y que el cadáver se hubiera enredado de algún modo en las rocas, que hubiera sido divisado por caminantes que recorrían los acantilados o bien descubierto por la tripulación de un yate que fondeara por bahías solitarias. De vez en cuando, algunos lugareños se acercaban a la empinada costa en pequeños botes rápidos para pescar algo para sus familias o sus establecimientos. En La Mola había un pequeño puerto con barcas de aquellas. En ese caso, la maquinaria de la policía española empezaría a girar sus engranajes. Al paso de la tortuga, bien es cierto, pero se pondría sin duda en marcha. Y lo que Hamm tenía que evitar a toda costa era verse atrapado en esa maquinaria. No es que él pensara que la policía española era especialmente corrupta, fascista o xenófoba, no. Era aún peor. La Guardia Civil aún no se había recuperado del trauma que supuso dejar de ser la temida guardia pretoriana de Franco, brutal y casi todopoderosa, y quedar degradada a una tropa obligada a cumplir ciertas condiciones del estado de derecho. En los años iniciales de la democracia, la gente solía insultar e incluso escupir a los guardias

In der Bar Verdera, wo er eine Ration lauwarmen, scharf gewürzten Pulpo gallega von einem Holzbrett aß, versuchte er, seine Gedanken zu ordnen. Wie würde es jetzt weitergehen? Erstens, die Leiche von Lu nahm sich netterweise selber aus dem Spiel, indem sie unterging oder auf Nimmerwiedersehen in Richtung Marokko trieb. Perfekt wäre das, geradezu der Königsweg. Hamm würde dann alle Zeit der Welt haben, sich zu überlegen, ob er Lisa die Wahrheit sagen sollte. Oder einen Teil davon. Und, wenn ja, welchen. Die zweite, nicht so günstige Möglichkeit war, dass Lu nicht unterging. Dass sich seine Leiche mit den Kleidern irgendwie an den Felsen verheddert hatte, dass sie von Wanderern an der Felsenküste gesehen oder von der Besatzung einer Yacht entdeckt wurde, die einsame Buchten abfuhr. Gelegentlich gab es Einheimische, die für ihre Familien oder ihre Lokale mit kleinen Kuttern dicht vor der Steilküste fischten. Einen kleinen Hafen, wo solche Boote lagen, gab es auf La Mola. In diesem Fall würden die Mühlen der spanischen Polizei anfangen, sich zu drehen. Im Schneckentempo, aber immerhin. Und was Hamm unbedingt vermeiden musste, war, in diese Mühlen zu geraten. Nicht, dass er die spanische Polizei für besonders korrupt oder faschistisch oder fremdenfeindlich hielt. Sie war schlimmer. Die Guardia Civil hatte sich nie völlig von dem Schock erholt, dass sie von Francos gefürchteter, fast allmächtiger, brutaler Prätorianergarde zu einer Truppe degradiert worden war, die sich an einigermaßen rechtsstaatliche Gepflogenheiten halten musste. In den Anfangsjahren der Demokratie waren die Zivilgardisten oft verhöhnt und bespuckt worden. Es war nicht gerade die Crème der jungen Generation, die sich heutzutage zur

today. Even in Madrid, the Spanish police were not particularly bright and he had no problem in picturing to himself the kind of dimwit who would go through the motions on an island like Formentera. If they got hold of him, they would give him nothing but grief. They wouldn’t understand anything so would latch onto the first person who drew suspicion. Namely him, Hamm. He called Andy and managed to sell this versatile, all-purpose tourist guide a more or less plausible story. No, he unfortunately hadn’t found Lu at the house that Andy had described. No, he hadn’t found any evidence that Lu was even still living there either, no car, nada. Perhaps he had just disappeared again, vagrant that he was. Perhaps he had shacked up with some bird in Ibiza. He, Hamm, was going to pack his bags. It had seemed like a good idea at the time but in the end turned out to be a wild goose chase. Still, thanks again and cheers. Usually he got Petra to organise his travel. But this time he booked his return journey from Ibiza himself on the internet. He would have to make a short stop-over in Palma de Mallorca, as there were no direct flights from Ibiza to Bremen that day. Very handy, he thought. Who knows how that may come in useful. In any case it would cover his tracks No one needed to know exactly where he had been at any given time. It dawned on him that recently he had been behaving more and more oddly. Shouldn’t he slowly begin to give up all the lying and pretending? Back on the Island of Diekerum he would wipe the slate clean. Quite definitely. Or definitely maybe. 

Los policías españoles no estaban especialmente motivados ni siquiera en Madrid, así que podía imaginarse perfectamente los lumbreras que habría en una isla como Formentera. Si caía en sus redes, el estrés iba a ser insoportable. Seguro que no iban a entender nada de nada y que iban a pillar como sospechoso al primero que pasara por allí. O sea, a Hamm. Llamó a Andy y consiguió venderle a aquel máquina del turismo una historia medio plausible. No, desgraciadamente no había visto a Lu en la casa que le había descrito Andy. No, no había encontrado ningún indicio de que Lu siguiera viviendo allí, ni un coche, nada. Lo más seguro era que se hubiera largado con viento fresco, un tipo medio nómada como él... Igual se había echado en brazos de alguna novia por ahí por Ibiza. Él, Hamm, se largaba de la isla. Menuda idea genial había sido aquello. Una pérdida total de tiempo y dinero. Gracias una vez más y adiós. Normalmente le encargaba a Petra que organizara sus viajes. No obstante, reservó por sí mismo en Internet el regreso desde Ibiza. Tuvo que hacer una breve escala en Palma de Mallorca, ya que aquel día no había ningún avión que fuera directo desde Ibiza a Bremen. Muy práctico, pensó. A lo mejor es hasta bueno. Por lo menos, ayuda a emborronar las pistas. Nadie tenía que saber exactamente cuándo y por dónde andaba. Tenía claro que últimamente se estaba comportando de forma cada vez más extraña. Ya estaba bien de andar mintiendo y fingiendo, ¿no? En Diekerum iba a hacer tabla rasa. Segurísimo. O, bueno, al menos bastante probable. 

Guardia meldete. Spaniens Polizisten waren nicht einmal in Madrid sonderlich motiviert, und welche Leuchten auf einer Insel wie Formentera Dienst schoben, konnte er sich mühelos vorstellen. Wenn die ihn in die Finger bekamen, würde er endlos Stress haben. Sie würden überhaupt nichts kapieren, dafür den Erstbesten einbuchten, der sich verdächtig gemacht hatte. Nämlich ihn, Hamm. Er rief Andy an und schaffte es, der touristischen Allzweckwaffe eine halbwegs plausible Story zu verkaufen. Nein, er habe Lu leider nicht angetroffen in dem Haus, das Andy beschrieben hatte. Nein, er habe auch keine Hinweise gesehen, dass Lu dort überhaupt noch wohnte, kein Auto, nada. Vielleicht habe er sich schon wieder verkrümelt, unstet wie er sei. Vielleicht habe er sich in die Arme irgendeiner Braut auf Ibiza geworfen. Er, Hamm, würde seine Zelte auf der Insel abbrechen. War halt so eine Idee gewesen. Außer Spesen nix gewesen. Danke nochmals, und Tschüss. Gewöhnlich ließ er seine Reisen von Petra organisieren. Die Rückreise von Ibiza buchte er aber selber über das Internet. Er musste einen kurzen Zwischenstopp auf Palma de Mallorca einlegen, weil an diesem Tag von Ibiza keine Maschine nonstop nach Bremen ging. Ganz praktisch, dachte er. Wer weiß, wozu´s gut ist. Verwischt auf jeden Fall Spuren. Niemand brauchte zu wissen, wo genau er zu welcher Zeit gewesen war. Ihm dämmerte, dass er sich in der letzten Zeit immer öfter merkwürdig verhielt. Sollte er nicht langsam mal aufhören mit dem Lügen und Verstellen? Auf Diekerum würde er reinen Tisch machen. Ganz sicher. Oder doch ziemlich wahrscheinlich. 
