PRESIDENT’S WELCOME

DR JÜRGEN BÜHLER ICEJ PRESIDENT Dear Feast pilgrims, Welcome to Jerusalem! The Feast of Tabernacles is an invitation from the Lord God to the nations to come to Jerusalem. Tabernacles is one of the three great holidays given to Israel. The Hebrew name for these sacred holidays is mo’ed, which can be translated to mean an “appointed time” – a certain date that God has placed in ‘His calendar’. These mo’edim were holy days when God promised to meet His people and bless them if they kept the respective feasts. As you have come Jerusalem, I encourage you to see it as your personal appointment with God in Jerusalem. He wants to meet you, minister to you, and to speak to you. Your stay in Jerusalem can become a new beginning in your life. But being here in Jerusalem during Tabernacles also means a special opportunity to minister to the nation of Israel. I want to encourage you to join our morning prayer meetings in the main auditorium or in our prayer Succah. These are ideal times when you can encounter God’s presence and intercede for Israel and for your own nation. Meanwhile, the Jerusalem March will allow you to demonstrate your friendship and love to Israel on the streets of Jerusalem. It will be a tremendous blessing for this entire nation. I personally pray that God will greatly bless you during your time here in Jerusalem! Many blessings and again, welcome to the Feast of Tabernacles 2019!

Jürgen Bühler President International Christian Embassy Jerusalem

MAYOR’S WELCOME

MOSHE LION MAYOR OF JERUSALEM Dear friends, Jerusalem is one of the most important cities in history, holy to billions of people of faith around the world. For over 3,000 years Jerusalem has been looked towards with longing and prayer. Today, Jerusalem is not only “the closest city to God”, but also a vibrant, modern city, paving the way in innovation, education, resident services and tourism. As you walk the streets in Jerusalem, you can hear the voices of prophets and kings echoing from the past, blending with the voices of children playing – the voices of our capital’s future. I personally invite you to enjoy the magnificent view, sights and atmosphere Jerusalem has to offer and wish you the best stay in our holy city during the festival of Succot. Sincerely,

Moshe Lion Mayor of Jerusalem

THE BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS WAS MADE BY AND THROUGH HIM The theme for the Feast of Tabernacles 2019 is “Beginnings”. Our Feast speakers will explore what the Bible has to say about such subjects as the Creation of the worlds, the beginning of God’s redemptive plan with the calling of Abraham, the birth of the Church and Christ’s preeminence over all things. This rich theme also includes the many passages in the Hebrew prophets where God assures us of Israel’s last-day restoration based simply on His identity as Creator of all things. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1-2

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. Psalms 33:6-12

For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, and glorified Himself in Israel. Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself… Who says to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be inhabited,’ to the cities of Judah, ‘You shall be built,’ and I will raise up her waste places…”

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Isaiah 44:24-26

Revelation 1:8

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3

6

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Colossians 1:15-18

This Feast, may you find a new beginning in the God who makes all things new!

WHY WE CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES Why do Christians come up to Jerusalem each year to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles? Because this biblical festival has great relevance, not just for Israel but for all nations. A FEAST FOR ALL PEOPLE The Feast of Tabernacles, or Succot, is unique in that the Gentile nations also were invited to come up to Jerusalem to worship the Lord at this "appointed time". This tradition arose from the command that Israel should sacrifice seventy bulls at Succot on behalf of the seventy nations descended from Noah (see Numbers 29:12-35). Solomon later dedicated the Temple at Succot and encouraged foreigners to come there to pray (2 Chronicles 6:32-33). Indeed, Jerusalem was always destined to be a "house of prayer for all nations" (Isaiah 56:7; Matthew 21:13). REMEMBERING GOD'S PAST PROVISION The most visible symbol of Succot is the small booths which Jewish families are commanded to dwell in for the eight days of the Feast (Leviticus 23:33-43). These flimsy shelters are a reminder of Israel’s forty years in the Wilderness, where they were totally dependent on the Lord. Yet God was faithful to provide everything they needed. In the same way, Christians can rejoice in a God who has provided all we need to walk uprightly before Him. REJOICING IN HIS PRESENCE TODAY Succot also marks the ingathering of the all-important fall harvest here in the Land of Israel. Today, Christians can rejoice in the great harvest for the Kingdom of God taking place all around the world. THE JOY OF THE AGE TO COME The prophet Zechariah foresees a time when all nations will ascend to Jerusalem every year to "worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:16). Amazingly, Succot holds the great prophetic promise that throughout the Messianic Age, the entire world will come celebrate this Feast because it will mark the glorious moment when Jesus came to take up the throne of David in Jerusalem. This is indeed a feast of joy, a harbinger of that wonderful day when we shall “enter the joy of the Lord”. For 40 years now, Christians from all over the world have come up to Jerusalem each fall to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles because we believe that day is soon coming!

In 1988, he established “Ministry to Israel” as a special outreach of his denomination to the nation of Israel, in response to a unique vision and calling to become engaged in the great Ingathering of the Jewish people back to their ancient homeland. In 1991, Michael led Ministry to Israel to begin partnering with various organisations, such as the ICEJ, to assist Jewish families in making the journey home to Israel. Over the next 30-plus years, he thrust himself into facilitating Aliyah, especially across the vast expanses of Russia, from sponsoring transport operations and airline flights, to planting new immigrants securely in the Land of Israel. Including the Aliyah efforts of the ICEJ, Ezra International, and his own Ministry to Israel, Michael Utterback has assisted over 170,000 Jewish people to return to Israel. For over three decades, Michael also has spoken in churches, conferences and other forums worldwide, to build understanding and support for Israel. His roles with the ICEJ included Liaison to Churches, International Director, and a member of the ICEJ’s international Board of Trustees. Today, Michael Utterback remains active in Aliyah and absorption efforts with MTI and as International Director for Ezra International. Michael and his wife Gina continue to live in Jerusalem. They have two daughters and seven grandchildren. “Behold, I will lift My hand in an oath to the nations, and set up My standard for the peoples; They shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders…” (Isaiah 49:22)
