Letter from the Publisher Our summer inspiration issue has an International and Women of Color theme. Inside we feature women from all around the world - India, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Australia and the United States. Women of color voices have been silenced. We are proud to give them a platform in our magazine and on our website. Minority and Women owned businesses need to be nurtured and have accessible resources to help build and grow their business.
Connect with WQ
On a recent interview, I was asked if women had made advancements in Business and CEOs of corporations or if we still have a lot of work to do. I was stumped by this question because I know for myself personally as a woman of color and networking with other women like me – the struggle is real and on-going.
We want to give women a voice to share and tell their stories that will inspire and pave the way forward for others on their journey.
This is a question that cannot simply be answered as the collective. There are women CEOs and we have made strides, but some women have to work a lot harder than most to get the acknowledgement they deserve. This is why I am extremely excited to allow the women in this edition to talk about their struggles and their success.
We are advocates for living a full circle healthy lifestyle - mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually and financially. Our readers will find practical advice, good common sense and savvy on various topics that women encounter from everyday living.
We celebrate all women from all around the world. Peace and Blessings, xoxo

Editor’s Note Six years ago, I met my husband and every day since I have worried about his safety. I cry when I think about all that my husband has already faced as a black man; knowing that our son will likely face some of the same hatred. My heart breaks for every single black person; what it must be like to look at your home and see it filled with such hate for you and those that look like you. As a mother and a wife, I am personally invested in this movement, but as a human being I feel so desperate to amplify the voices of those who have gone unheard. I will never know what it means to be black; but I will fight alongside the black community and do everything in my power to help move our country to a place that I am proud to call home. Your voice matters; your experience matters. And you are so very loved. #BlackLivesMatter

Q&A Ask the Experts
I’m not good enough or have the skills to earn my dream income, what should I do? By: Lauren D’Ath – Business Mindset Coach “I can’t accomplish any because…” This sentence confuses me, because if you looked at the last 100 years, women have proven they can accomplish amazing things. But despite meeting so many women who know they can achieve their dreams with mindset so strong and unshakeable, just as equally I meet those that think they can’t. It usually comes with excuses like “I have a disability”, “I have mental/physical health problems”, “I don’t have the skills”, “I’m not good enough” etc. Here’s the thing, I don’t believe those excuses for 1 second because I know you don’t believe them either. Let me tell you why I already know you can do anything and that you’re just preventing your potential. I have dyslexia so severe that growing up I would stutter, flip my sentences like “Yoda” from Star Wars, I struggled to read, write and understand what people were saying to me. In fact, I still struggle to read. For 14 years I had depression and anxiety from being badly bullied, I even had anorexia and health conditions that lead me to passing out a fair bit. Even in my 9-5 days I had people literally trying to prevent me from succeeding, yeah, no joke. So, needless to say, things weren’t exactly easy for me, but I never viewed them as challenges or something that would prevent me from having a great life. 18 WQMagazine.com
The truth is your life can change drastically and quickly if you allow it. Apart from working on my speech, writing and reading skills throughout the years, I actually transformed my life and started working as my own boss in 1 year. How? Because I knew I could even if I didn’t know how. So, I worked my butt off for a year re-training my skills, I would work during every lunch break and train journey to build my business around a full-time job, I worked on my mental health which in turn transformed my physical health; I took hardcore action towards my dreams every day until I left my job and doubled my income in the first 3 months of business. So, if someone like me can do it, why can’t you? I know it’s scary but trust me when I say- just do it anyway, every time you do something terrifying and uncomfortable you grow rapidly as a person, and remember; there are no failures, just lessons learned. BLOGGER SPOTLIGHT Every kid dreams of becoming a superhero. To have unlimited strength, to be fast, or being able to fly. They dream to have powers that are used to better the world and help the ones in need. Let’s face it who did not want to have superpowers as a kid. As I grew older, I came to realize the most powerful power was that of our voices and how it takes tremendous amounts of self-respect and trust in ourselves. It is huge when we trust our voice enough that we can use them and not worry about what others say. So many people including myself have been victimized by having our voices removed for so long. So many people in this world try to take our voices until we are completely silenced. That it is so hard to get our voices back and being silenced is the new normal. In this day and age, we are scared to use our voices in fear of the actions that will happen after. We are scared of using our voices even if it is to better the outcome. Without realizing it we our teaching the younger generation that our voices are not important by staying quiet to things we do not think are right. We need to teach the younger generation to use their voices. Our voices have the ability to help ones in need. Our voices have the ability to reach out. Our voices have the ability to inspire people to do better. We need to teach kids these days that we do not need to be afraid. To make their voices heard even if others do not agree with what they have to say. We need to teach them to trust their voices.

advocate, and most of all I am happy. Without sharing my story, people wouldn’t be able to see how you can be at rock bottom and still come out on top. I survived and I thrived. So can you!
Alicia’s Book When the Soul Cries
AUTHOR | INFLUENCER | ENTREPRENEUR I began the journey of telling my story many years ago. I always found a reason not to follow through with publishing. It was as if I wanted to protect my friends, my family, and of all people, even my abuser! However, when the opportunity presented itself again, I knew that this would be my opportunity to help someone who has gone through what I survived. “When the Soul Cries: Trauma. Tears. Triumph,” literally brought me back to life! I chose to be a voice to the voiceless and tell my story. This is one of the best decisions that I have ever made. At the time that I began to write my story, I was in the transformation phase of my life. I was a single mom, a hard worker, and an aspiring entrepreneur. By the time the book was published, I was happily remarried, with not one but two thriving businesses. This is why it was and still is so important for us as women to be transparent about what we’ve endured. There is ministry in your mess, a testimony and a light at the end of the tunnel! I can say from personal experience, that the overall purpose of this book is the physical manifestation of not only the trauma and tears but ultimately the courage and triumph! It is a quintessential tool that can be used for women all around the world, and a tool to help them overcome life’s obstacles. When I would ask myself, “why should I tell my story?”, “What good will it do to bring to light what I’ve kept hidden for so long?” The answer would always be, “this is so much bigger than me, my story has the literary power to impact millions!” “When the Soul Cries: Trauma. Tears. Triumph.”, is not just an anthology. Not just a group of stories told by women who have no real value to bring to the world. It is and continues to serve as a rallying cry to all of the women who have endured or continue to suffer in silence. We chose to tell our stories of violence, abuse, and redemption so that one day, they can too! This book is changing lives one person at a time. Today, I am a wife, mother, entrepreneur, author, women’s rights
WHEN THE SOUL CRIES exposes the souls of 17 women who have endured and overcame tremendous amounts of emotional abuse, constant disappointment, and heart-breaking betrayal. The Fearless Storytellers are passionate about helping other women learn from their mistakes and win the RIGHT way in our romantic relationships! I RECOGNIZED THE CHOICE I HAD: HOPE VS. HOPELESSNESS AS A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR personal anecdotes. I share how I refused to become a victim. Instead, I became a survivor, which is actually a victim with attitude: And believe me, I’ve got plenty of that! I have since become a thriver who has refused to let cancer define me as a person. It’s what I had – not who I am. Early on, I recognized the choice I had: Hope vs. Hopelessness. I have the power to change my life for the better and to affect the lives of others. Impressed with Winston Churchill’s philosophy of never giving up, I included having a positive attitude while combining a balance spiritually, physically and emotionally. Visualization techniques, prayer and meditation made me feel relaxed and centered. I also learned the value of exercise in healing. I can still remember squeezing a tennis ball 50 times a day and walking my arm up the hospital wall trying to gain strength on my left side after surgery. I did this for five weeks and one year later, I won my first doubles tennis tournament at Ocean Bay Park.
I see myself as a symbol of hope and strive to inspire others. If anyone would have predicted that a twenty-five-year-old woman in South Side Hospital who had less than a thirty-percent chance of survival would one day be crowned Ms. Senior America, I doubt very few would have believed it. Anything can happen; you must never give up no matter what. Included in my motivational presentation is a discussion on early detection and lessons on keeping yourself positive, peppered with 24 WQMagazine.com
Surrounding myself with positive people empowered me in avoiding he negativity and constant tears of those who have given up on me and who subconsciously were preventing me from getting well. In the seventies there were no computers, cell phones or even cable television. But I still had a litany of books and medical journals in which I immersed myself as I became my own advocate. By working with my surgeon, I became part of my treatment. I researched, asked questions, and brought in friends or family during my consultation in case I became nervous or needed to go over what I had been told. This decade had no mammograms, MRI’s or tumor markers. Instead, I evaluated and changed my diet, added exercise, sleep and vitamins. Just as more rest was needed after surgery, I also needed to get back into my routine; I couldn’t wait to get back into my classroom after three weeks in the hospital. My students missed and needed me and that helped. When William Shakespeare stated “How sweet are the many uses of adversity,” I could only think of all the good that has come from my experience. I was proud of how I handled my situation and I saw my confidence soar as I turned twenty-six years old. I became a more compassionate woman and realized how much I could learn from the kindness and help I accepted from others More importantly, I learned how fortunate I was to be able to give back. ” Paying it forward” has become an integral part of my life. I learned that you don’t have to come in first in a pageant in order to become a winner. A winner is defined in how she lives her life each and every day. I am number one because of who I have become, not because I didn’t die. I am thrilled to dedicate the second act of my life volunteering as I am determined to make a difference. I discovered what the humorist Sam Levenson already knew: “You have two hands: one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” www.gailkingtv.com Instagram: gailmargaretking Photo Blue dress-Photographer” Benizo MUA: Bianca Corrales

Andrea Cameron to you every single day. If you are looking to set yourself apart from the crowd, you need to be utilizing your clothing choices to your advantage. I often hear ‘I don’t want to invest until…’ or ‘I need to lose weight first’, which tells me where someone has prioritized themselves in their life and business. Like anything in life, if you keep waiting until something else happens before you say yes to you, you are denying yourself the very necessary pleasure of putting yourself first. You are also missing out on a key component of your personal brand that will set you apart and make you more memorable. Taking that next step to uncovering and rediscovering your unique personal style is a very healing process. More often than not people learn something new about themselves, finding pieces of themselves they left behind or forgot about in years past. When you treat yourself to something as personal as developing your personal brand style, magic happens. Not only do you start to see yourself in a new light, you start to show up (quite literally) in a new way, and your life can change pretty quickly when you do that.
Have you ever stopped to consider your relationship with your clothing? You know, those items you put on your body everyday. So many of us go through life without considering the impact our clothing choices have on us, let alone the planet. Yet, anyone who has taken the time to be intentional about what they wear always says it was one of the best investments they ever made in themselves (and their business). A lot is revealed through your clothing choices, whether those are intentional choices or not. As the face of your personal brand, be that in business or another working environment, clothing is the most visible communication tool available

Vitamin D production initiates in the skin when the skin exposed to UVB rays. The rays interact with the D present in the skin causing a chemical reaction which produces Vitamin D. Because D is more of a hormone than a vitamin, levels of D in our skin decrease as we age…making it harder to produce D naturally (even when exposed to the sun). (2) Pigment: Color in skin acts like an SPF slowing penetration of UVB into the skin which slows Vitamin D production. Over 60% of our population is of darker skin types, and as the diversity of our population continues to grow, it is likely that deficiency will continue to increase with even darker skin types. (3) Seasonality: Shorter daylight in seasons can create deficiencies at certain times of the year (Seasonal Associative Disorder). While sunscreen use has often been discussed as potentially limiting Vitamin D production, recent studies show that Vitamin D is actually made in shorter timeframes than previously thought. Only 1 in 4 people wear sunscreen on a daily basis and when they do, it is mostly on the face so the numbers don’t match to the rising rates of deficiency. 32 WQMagazine.com
Why apply Vitamin D topically? I like to advise our clients to think of it like a “nutrition sandwich”, you want to eat Vitamin D rich foods (salmon, mushrooms), take a supplement with at least 600 IUs D daily, and apply Vitamin D directly to the skin. Because less than 1% of what we ingest ever makes its way to the skin, you also want to apply it topically (in the same way that we now understand the power of applying C topically). The real power of topical Vitamin D is in its anti-inflammatory properties which address many persistent skin conditions like acne, eczema and reduce reactions like contact dermatitis and skin allergies. Skin Authority’s proprietary Vita D Topical Elixir supports building skin immunity to defend against environmental damage as it strengthens the skin barrier, repairs and regenerates cell function. 5 Steps To Get Active & Creative: A New Way To Approach Family Fitness By Danielle Medina
Summer is a perfect time to increase your physical activity, go outside and plan quality time with the family. It may seem like a big endeavor, however, with some preparation and knowledge on how to start and maintain a fitness schedule you can stay on track. A family that plays and works out together stays healthy together! As a fitness professional and mom to my preschooler daughter, I have been able to find some easy and manageable ways to make family fitness possible. It’s the driving force to building strong bodies, creating family bonds and lifelong healthy habits. Let’s explore 5 steps on how you can improve the health and well being of you and your family. 1) Develop A Growth Mindset Change your thoughts; change your outcome! A growth mindset cancels out fear and allows you to move past judgments and mistakes. It’s important to know that you are capable of many things. If your goal is to lose weight and start feeling better, make that an essential part of your daily tasks. In order for you to move toward the direction of physical transformation there must first be a mental transformation. The parent-child connection is a multifaceted relationship. Children look to us parents for encouragement when things get difficult. One example of showing a growth mindset approach to fitness is to talk about how some movements may feel challenging. It is through these experiences that we can condition our bodies through exercise to help improve our progress. I find that when my daughter is struggling with a movement, I will ask her if there are other approaches to this particular movement. If we look for ideas to develop physically, mentally and spirituality - we can produce change and show our commitment. 34 WQMagazine.com
2) Aim For Daily Movement When I suggest to my clients to increase their physical activity on a daily basis, finding time becomes less of an issue. I help create a schedule for them that incorporate movements during specific times of the day. The more fitness becomes an integral part of your life the less barriers you will experience. Children can also benefit from a daily fitness schedule. Not only does physical movement help in brain function, but it also can set them up for a lifetime of healthy habits. One example is to use your heavy grocery bags for bicep curls as you walk to your car or on the way home. It’s an effective way to combine weekly errands and fitness together. To help get your children involved in cleaning the house, turn some music on and use lunges or squats to pick up toys or clothes from the floor. 3) Go Outside It’s not hard to enjoy beautiful warm weather. There are so many benefits to being outside and moving. Parks and green spaces are a great place for family movements. Outdoor fitness helps improve your mood, challenges your body in a different way and increases your daily dose of Vitamin D. It also helps improve your sleep, which is so important for your body to properly rest.
4) ABC’s Of Fitness
&
Learning about movement together as a family fosters curiosity. I often pull out our anatomy book and show the different muscle groups to my daughter. Children are naturally curious about their bodies and how it works. Once we learn about the different muscles, we make action songs about them. This is a favorite for little kids. While older kids enjoy challenging movements or friendly competitions. Keep it light and positive!
Make up games to see how many push-ups, squats, jumps or any kind of movement that everyone can do. Focus on positive reinforcement and look for ways to add new movements 5) Eat Your Plants that get the whole body working. For younger children, use imaginative play and movement for What you put in your body fuels it! Start ina fun time. creasing your vegetable, fruit and plant-based food intake. The best indicator to overall health is in your gut. Since I am a plant-based nutrition educator, I encourage my clients to ingest foods that have been minimally processed and nourish our bodies. The earlier you start healthy eating habits the easier it will be for our children to follow. Their palates will be able to enjoy these delicious nutrient-dense foods. Take the health of you and your family into your own hands! Celebrate your achievements and be supportive during your missteps. Our biggest changes start with a solid foundation. A strong family bond can be an important element to overall health.

Female energy to transform the world from within By: Fortuna Living Look at pictures of powerful or empowered women. We usually see a woman in a suit, running the world with strength and confidence, a winner. The same description can be applied to a powerful man though. So what is an empowered woman from within then? One of our innermost essence as women, is bringing beauty into the world. Look all around you. We thrive in beauty, we surround ourselves with it, and we express beauty in many forms: by decorating our environment, cooking a meal for a loved one or drawing a flower in a piece of stationary. We can transform taking a shower into a ritual full of beauty and sensory experiences. All these attributes allow us to be more intuitive and see beyond people and circumstances.
Simple self-care rituals: · Listen to your favorite music (and dance and sing if you feel like it) · When not feeling like your best, dress your best (even at home on lockdown) · Make a date with yourself. Go for a coffee to your favorite place, cook or order a love packed dinner for yourself, etc. · Watch a show or listen to a podcast that makes you laugh. · Treat your senses: get essential oils, an aromatherapy bath, flowers, incense, put that perfume on, even if going to sleep. Follow your intuition in your self-care routine, and bring beauty into the world, through you.
The cornerstone of our power within, is selfcare. Look at every act of self-care you do, as a service to the world. By giving to yourself you practice self responsibility and make yourself better. All the super women out there, remember to hang the cape and take a break. Self-care will make you heal, love and nurture yourself. Bring beauty into that dark place and make friends with it. Illuminate it until it’s transmuted and transcend. Women make the world beautiful. We see a home when others just see a property, we see blooming flowers when others only see weeds, scars as beauty marks of battles conquered. Being empowered as a woman, is honoring all that is your divine feminine. Beauty in all its forms: loving kindness, selflessness, tough love, healing, wisdom. 36 WQMagazine.com

Can you hear me now?: Reasons why you should start listening to your intuition By: Dean Mcmurray Intuition has been described by some as your higher self or your inner voice. More than a cool hipster or new-age label, your intuition is your GPS, your own Google, or internal Alexa. There are many people who constantly feel lost. Isn’t it cool to know that you already have answers within you to guide you when you’re feeling lost? Here are 5 reasons why you should start listening to your intuition: 1. To keep you out of danger. Many times you may get the “vibe” that something is dangerous, creepy or wrong. Yep, that’s your intuition - trust it!! 2. To get a leg up. After studying all things intuition for the last decade, I have found business movers and shakers seem to stay ahead of the pack. Do you know why? They listen to that gut instinct. 3. To help with relationships. Your intuition can help guide both romantic and non-romantic relationships. While browsing dating apps, why not let your intuition guide you on who to swipe left or right on or start a conversation with? While most employers already get a “feeling” for a potential employee or business partner long before the deal goes down, consult your intuition before signing that contract. 4. To overcome adversity. When you’re feeling overpowered by challenges in life, your intuition can show you the way out. Whether it’s work, finances, or relationships challenging you, utilize your intuition to guide you down the right path. 5. To reach out to friends and family. If you ever had the thought of “I should call my BFF” or “I should call my parents”, then trust it. They might have been thinking of you or maybe there was a reason you were supposed to call them. Hello - it’s your intuition calling!
40 WQMagazine.com
The number one reason why, most people start and stop intuitive development is because they feel they get it wrong. It’s important to know that it’s not necessarily wrong, but an initial misinterpretation. So be patient! Your intuition gets to have the 3,000 foot view while you are at 20 feet. So that leaves everyone asking the same question. How do I start listening to my Intuition? The answer is in the silence......... And BE patient, it’s like a muscle it needs to be exercised....Not to be confused with ZOOMBA that is totally different. website: www.themilitarymedium.com facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheMilitaryMedium instagram: https://www.instagram.com/militarymedium/

Stars & Entertainment What I Learned Filming My First Music Video
By Christine Radlmann “I can’t feel my feet!” I uttered those words while filming the music video for “Within You,” a track from Southpaw’s debut country album “Unhitched.” We’d aimed to depict all four seasons in the video but filmed the entire thing in the dead of winter in New Jersey. So when I frolicked with my bare feet in the ocean, feigning a smile as icy water slashed my ankles, I wasn’t exaggerating when I said I couldn’t feel my feet. The question is — was it worth it?
Things I did not anticipate: • How bad a spray tan can look onscreen (we scrapped a day’s worth of footage thanks to my orange glow) • How difficult it is to perform slow-motion scenes (I had to lip sync 20 times FASTER than the normal speed of the song) • How many clothes I’d have to borrow (my daily wardrobe of sweatpants wouldn’t cut it) • How uncomfortable wet jeans are in 34-degree weather • How hard it is not to blink with snow whipping your face • How many hours of footage it takes to create a 4-minute video (50+ hours!) • How much time I’d spend thinking, I have to pee! • How long it takes to warm up after filming in freezing temps (um, forever?) I can’t complain--I was lucky to be creative and collaborative during a pandemic when many were suffering. That gratitude buoyed me on tough days. But was it worth it?
It’s not the 13,000+ YouTube views that tell me it was worth it. It’s a comment like this: “This song has an amazing uplifting message. I’m listening to it at a time when I really needed it. Prior to filming, my band Southpaw had record- Thank you.” ed 13 songs for “Unhitched.” As an indie band, we had to maximize our marketing to get South- That comment made the dozens of hours paw’s music heard. 1. What made you to become an actress? Well acting was not my dream or ambition since young. But I always believed that passion is not built in but to be searched and found. So, I was actively exploring. I was introduced to this industry by a very good friend of mine to act along in a music video to replace the main lead. My dad wasn’t so happy about me getting into the industry. So it was a little tough to pursue acting. I completed my degree in Electronics & Electrical Engineering and got another chance in a tele series, introduced by KK Khanna to work alongside senior actors like Sasitharan K Rajoo, Agho, Anu, Gobbi ,and KS Maniam uncle. I grabbed the opportunity. Slowly I explored the industry, spoke to many, attended events, made good mentors and later on I realized this is where my passion lies at and it kept me going.
As an actress, the major challenge is to sustain and getting a challenging role. Every film maker has his or her own idea and imagination and fitting aptly into it and doing justice to it is the major challenge. And the reward is obviously, the love, support and recognition that would mould us as a responsible personality. Today, I’m extremely conscious in not saying or doing anything that could badly influence my followers and well-wishers, and I consider that a blessing.
I took it as a responsibility and consciously made effort to inspire and I love how we could make some changes, sometimes very small changes to make the world a better place. 2. How would you describe the Malaysian film industry? Malaysian film industry is definitely getting bigger and better in many ways. We had to compete mainly with the much experienced and advanced contents from India and other countries. But I love how some passionate Malaysian film makers had changed the whole scene into an equally competitive space and I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate them. There are plenty of opportunities given now by our local channels for our local products. Honestly, breaking into the industry as a main lead was quite challenging. But I believe I have a lot to work on, will continuously improve, invest in learning and ensure to make justice to the industry and the trust on me. It is of course a shared responsibility of everyone in the industry so that we can be given more air time and finance by channels. 3. Being an actress and a model can be both challenging and rewarding. In what ways has this experience changed you? I have never considered myself as a model. Being a model requires certain skills, effort and sacrifice. A strict diet for instance, being a foodie I can’t imagine myself being on a strict diet, lol. 48 WQMagazine.com
4. What would you tell to your 20-year-old self? Probably to build my self-esteem, let go of my insecurities and be more extroverted as they held me back from learning and exploring many important lessons in life.
5. What is the impact of your love life in your journey? A very important one I would say! I’m blessed to receive immense love and blessings from many who love my partner and his work too. There were difficult times but we strongly went pass the phase, focusing on our careers now and supporting each other stronger than ever.
7. As a black belt holder in martial arts do you encourage women to take up this? I would like to break the misconception that a woman’s body language and behavior becomes masculine, once they learn a martial art. This is a very wrong stereotype. I know many beauty queens, who are amazing in martial art. It’s time to drop that mindset. In fact, it builds self-confidence and is important to protect them when necessary. “I had a very strong circle of friends, who took care of me and consoled me when I was not myself. A few names I owe my heartiest thanks to would be, obviously Appa, amma, Mugen and his family,Ajju, Sham, Mastu, Rayyan, Kumanan, sister Deepa, Naaraayini, Sasi Benjo, Ruvela, Jay, Dinnesh Roy, sister Janet and a good old friend.”
6. There are several young girls who look up to you. What is that one thing you would always say to them? It has been 2 tough years for me as I had to go through a lot of mental issues. I am back on track and be able to smile now. It is all because of them, young girls, boys, some women/men. The amount of love they showed me, some heartwarming notes and posts that always made me smile and built me as a stronger person! The one thing I would say to them, thank you so much for the love. Always stand right by you, trust your instincts, say nice things to people, give your 100% in whatever you pursue, keep learning, live well and love well!

What’s on the Nightstand? A Summer Vacation of Reading Families can use children’s books as guidebooks to enjoy a vacation from the comfort of their couch. Every book has a setting and can transport readers of all ages somewhere special to explore. My educational publishing company has added a children’s travel series to our catalogue. The Two Mice Travel series, by author Donna Dalton, consists of four hardback children’s picture books that take readers to popular landmarks and destinations around the world. Families can tour the city of Paris from the top of Eiffel Tower or hop on a double-decker bus in London in search of tea with the Queen. Readers can experience the iconic holiday season in New York City or go on an African safari.
By Kathryn Starke Summer is the most popular season for family travel. Depending on the location, however, planning a trip to a new destination may require a large amount of time and money. There is an option, however, to take an instant vacation that can teach you unique facts about the location and still provide you a sense of adventure. Just take a trip through the pages of a book. I originally wrote my first children’s book, Amy’s Travels, when I was a second-grade teacher as a way to teach a geography lesson. Many of my students did not have the opportunity or luxury to travel outside of their neighborhood. Therefore, Amy’s story, which is based on the memories of my college suitemate, became the first children’s picture book to teach all seven continents. The Latina children’s book provides the opportunity for readers to learn about the culture, diversity, and geography of our world through the eyes of a young girl. 50 WQMagazine.com
Every novel has a setting with a description that is so detailed it makes you feel like you are right there alongside the characters. Women’s contemporary fiction books are often timely and make references to festivals, restaurants, or specific events in cities that are well-known and relevant. These titles provide us with our own personalized itinerary for when we visit the city in real life. A book is a true escape to an unknown city or a favorite tourist spot. What’s on your personal “must see” travel list? Search for titles, both fiction and nonfiction, to add to your summer reading list that match your top choices. You will be amazed at all of the places you explore through the pages of a book.

Interview
Interviews are traditionally face to face and on-site, but depending on various circumstances it could be virtual. These tips apply to both types of interview formats and have been proven to work for both. I recommend that you Project everything out that you will need to do to ensure a successful interview. The first step while projecting is setting a goal around your interview. This helps you lay the process out and keeps you on track of what needs to be done.
The 4 P Formula to Ace an Interview Do you know that about half of Americans are unfulfilled at their jobs? Statistics show that the same holds true globally. This means that 50% of employees are looking to land their dream jobs. In a job market that is getting increasingly competitive, the right strategies, in the right order, are more important than ever. The way to career fulfillment is by finding the right job. The way to finding the right job, is by using the right strategies. The way to getting the right job is through a successful interview. It is not enough now to be really good at your profession, you must know exactly how to handle an interview so that you outshine your competition. That is where my time tested and proven 4P Formula comes in handy. The 4 P Formula to ace an interview: Projection, Preparation, Persuasion and Performance. When you understand this formula and apply it to the interview process, your chances of landing the job considerably increase. Phone Screening This is typically conducted by the recruiter or a Talent acquisition personnel. It could be referred to as a “quick chat” or call to “discuss the position further”. Whatever term they use, it is important to note that it is a screening call. The goal is to weed out the candidates who are not qualified for the next round. 52 WQMagazine.com
The second step of the 4P Formula is Preparation. You need to Prepare for your interview by studying your resume and making sure it is readily accessible. Your resume is your professional history on paper, so make sure it tells the accurate story. The third step of the 4P Formula is Persuasion. Part of your job during the interview is to Persuade your interviewer that they not only made the right choice to interview you, but you are the best candidate for the position. The fourth and final step is Performance. The spotlight is on you, and you don’t want to let yourself or your audience (interviewer) down. In other words, how would you want to be viewed by your future co-workers? Are you one, who experiences a severe case of what I call interview paralysis? Perhaps you have gone for so many interviews, which yielded no results? Maybe you want fulfillment in your career and you don’t know how or where to begin? I am Dr Mo and I help mid level professionals shift out of uninspiring roles into meaningful careers with the right mindset, with less stress, and in half the time. Mind Your Buisness Streamlined the process of uprooting the stereotypical breakthroughs on the resume writing formats, themes, templates, and most of all self-introduction to oneself while depicting one’s journey on a piece of paper. What made me dive deep into this initiative, was a constant receiving an organic response with authentic ‘recommendation’ on the LinkedIn wall. This shaped up my energy level to introduce the “simple-step” services, endearing one to mark the credit of its own. Your Resume has become one of the most sorted career assistance service providers, conducting the Profile building workshops, Personal Interview mock-drills, GD mock drills at various universities, clubs, associations virtually. Your Resume Journey The journey of Your Resume started, when sensing the paint point to find an appropriate job. I had been in a career shifting mode, wherein moved to multiple cities in the span of 5 years back, as consistency was missing, whenever I had applied for any new role in the new city. The resume preparation process intrigued me to do extensive research on the job search field and came across to understand the dire need. Since, Chennai, India, is a hub of IT professionals, the very first assignment that kickstarted and reinstated my content writing journey was for the IT professional, who was a seasoned coder, from there was no looking back! Initially, convincing the IT professionals and brainstorming was like a tough nut to crack, which eventually, given me a platform to learn mastery to convince the clients.

“The Girl Boss Reset” Career // Money // Business
By Sabrina Espere Carrington
The year 2020 was filled with mantras and motivational sayings for “the Girl Boss.” During the pandemic, women rose to the occasion by creating innovative side hustles, overnight internet businesses, and crushing social media with their impeccable influence. I, too, became a “Girl Boss” during the pandemic. I had remote jobs, side hustles, consulted, and still managed home. I became utterly exhausted and excessively drained. Finally, I said to myself, “Enough.” Though I had goals and dreams, why was I killing myself? Really? What meter do you have in your life that tells you that you have gone overboard? What things have you implemented to bring balance and harmony to your mind, body, and spirit? Here are a few things I implemented for a better life and a better me. • An Intense Look at the Mirror - I looked in the mirror after a long day of working 12 or more hours. I pushed myself to the limit for days, weeks, and months without really caring about my appearance. What did I do? I slept for a whole day and chose not to feel bad about it. Doing this from time to time was called my “reset”. 54 WQMagazine.com
•My Shower Routine & Oasis - Can you say “spa-like living?” I am so in love with my shower routine! I gathered up my research and went shopping. I incorporated fabulous items such as herbal soaps, mint-infused hair oil, natural water-based cleansers, V spot cleansers, and floral steam baths. • Relaxation- I stumbled across Ashwagandha, which has been used for centuries to bring calmness. That, along with stress-relief teas, were added to my days. Personal massagers, relaxing chamomile baths, etc... the options were endless! • De-clutter, Reorganize and Beautify- After so many nights are working until I would pass out, I looked at my workspace, my closets, and my room and had to get a grip! Professional organizers would suggest getting your house and work environment in order. When things are in place, you can see what is next on your agenda. Clarity comes from clearing your physical and mental spaces. Beautification sets the tone in an environment. Simple items such as throw pillows, picture frames, or even a beautiful plant can lighten the mood of any room or space. • Building my “Tribe” - Taking a deeper look at my life, I began to pay attention to the “angels” in my life. My angels were the people who did not care about my mood swings and would turn down an invitation to a pity party. Your tribe can consist of many different types of people. It can be a life coach, a spiritual leader, a co-worker, a family member. The critical factor of building a tribe is honesty and absolutely no passivity! Although it is no longer 2020, we are still recovering. Work hard but be kind to yourself. Life is so short, and life is truly what you make it.

Girl Power
A passionate young woman aiming to be a worldwide icon for empowering, inspiring and engaging young generations and women towards sports. By - Shamrin Yaseer
Mariam Mamdouh Farid
Mariam Farid is a professional Qatari athlete. She represented her country at the 17th World Athletics IAAF Championships 2019, where she ran in the Women’s 400 metres hurdles and set a new personal best. She achieved international recognition because she was one of the first female Qatari athletes to take part in the world championships. She had previously competed in the 200m in the junior world championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland in 2016. “My goal is inspiring the younger generation, breaking down barriers, making people’s perception of how women are in the Middle East,” she said. We are not oppressed. I can still compete with my scarf on. If there is something I want to do, I will do it.” Said Mariam after the 2019 event. Mariam, graduated at Northwestern University in Qatar which is one of the top 20 universities in the world and a member of the Qatar Athletics Federation team. Mariam was an ambassador for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, a role which saw her travel to Monaco with representatives from Qatar’s government and other institutions. And she was the only ambassador with Mutaz Barshim, as the only female ambassador for the IAAF world championship representing Qatar. “Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to host the IAAF World Athletics Championships,” she says. “This is an achievement and a source of pride for the Arab world, and it gave the Qatari community an opportunity to see their national team compete locally with some of the best athletics teams in the world, developing their passion for sport. After Qatar was announced as the host of the Championship, the responsibility on its athletes became bigger. This was especially true for Mariam, the first female Qatari athlete to wear the hijab during competition.
“I’ve received many questions from the Western media about my participation while wearing the hijab, through which I was able to change the stereotypical view of Arab women who wear the hijab,” she says. “This was to inspire more girls and change the stereotype that girls in the Arab world are not able to play sports. “The hijab has never been a hindrance to my success. It just makes me different from the other competitors.” During her career, Mariam has participated in many local and international championships, setting records and winning medals in Gulf, Asian, and international tournaments. “An athlete’s biggest competitor is themselves,” she says. “My passion to succeed leads me to do my best every time. This time, though, I outperformed myself, registering a new personal record -one minute and nine seconds.” “Athletics is considered an individual sport. And as an athlete, I am supposed to be confident in myself, my skills, and my ability to achieve the best. Sport has made me stronger and more open to the world and has made me more persistent and ambitious.” Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mariam_farid/ SUMMER INSPIRATION 2021

& Young Legends Krista, Founder. I started Teens For Vaccines Against Covid-19 out of sheer anger and frustration toward anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, and toward my generation. The exact age took the other public health crisis’ accurately perilously, yet maskless were the faces of those walking the streets. The Centers For Disease Control, commonly referred to as the CDC, released data highlighting and reinforcing what we already knew: young people - those from the age of twelve up to forty-five - were by far the most significant culprits of the massive spread of infection. So much so, we have been dubbed as ‘Super-Spreaders’ of Covid-19. It would be blasphemous to say all young people ignored the pandemic; in fact, it is young people that helped build our youth-led organization that has thus far vaccinated precisely 273 people between all of our current projects, as of June 17th. As a team of five, we have developed nine projects, including eight of them being interactive, to engage more youth involvement in the vaccination conversation. Our first project is our Persuasive Resource Guide, which assists those in their discussions with vaccine-hesitant or anti-vaccine friends or family. Our other projects range from our School Text-Banking, which essentially enables students to sign their peers up at school for vaccinations, to our Vaccine Town Hall Series with our first guest, Dr. Aya Osman, Ph.D., on July 30th, to our Summer Vaccine Sign-Up Campaign Drives at community pools and elsewhere. While not divulging too much information, our core team is in the process of collaborating with a fellow youth organization for a project that involves film. When asked by a friend if I am satisfied by the work I have done, I responded by saying, “Yes, because at least one person has gotten vaccinated.” When I set out to do this, I told myself that I wanted to vaccinate at least one person, and I would be pleased to stop there. But, the truth is, the work isn’t over, and there are more people to vaccinate. 58 WQMagazine.com
My job isn’t over until the pandemic is over and enough people are vaccinated to reach herd immunity or certainly close to it. We are currently partnered with two organizations: Stronger Organization and IVAXX Our Instagram: @teensforvaccinesagainstcovid

Women on&a Mission Lumbie Mlambo: with JB Dondolo Charity
I’m a mother and wife first. I graduated from Indiana University South Bend and Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. However, I’m called to do something greater than myself to help people in need. Empathy is in my DNA and most likely has everything to do with my upbringing in Zimbabwe, Africa. An UNA Women’s member, Global Goodwill Ambassador, and a United Nations Global Water Partner, I’m an active advocate for clean water and empowering women and girls to lead healthy and fulfilling lives. I stumbled upon the water issue by accident. Perhaps, it was meant to be. The water crisis exposes the ethical issues women and girls face today. So, I feel I have a duty to play my part to uplift those in need. Inspired by my father who was an orphan and never went to school, 1 took the leap to continue his legacy. My father was a humanitarian advocate whose values and principles on giving continue to inspire his children, friends, and families across the world. JB Dondolo played a critical role in the fight against poverty in his community and Dondolo’s children saw the need to form this organization in honor of their father so his legacy of good deeds continues. So, I started JB Dondolo, Inc., a nonprofit with a mission to remove barriers of access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in underserved and impoverished communities to reduce poverty and promote gender equity. We see a world where clean water is not an obstacle to pursuing a better and more equitable life. Obviously, our main goal is to provide access to clean water. By doing so we help women and girls and the whole family as well. Since women and girls are the ones who are mostly tasked with collection of water, the best way to get them out of this 60 WQMagazine.com
cycle is to provide water solutions so they can focus on other things such as entrepreneurship and education to improve and advance themselves. We use a scientific approach on our projects so there’s no second guessing. Our value partners are science and technology institutions, geologists, surveyors, and other water experts. Women in Business with Dena K Martines
After nearly two decades as a corporate executive, I went through a personal transformation that led to a total overhaul of my professional life. After years of feeling stuck and unhappy at work despite a successful career, I had finally found my calling; my life’s purpose! However, with that discovery came the realization that the career path I had pursued for all these years would not allow me the space or opportunity to fully live out my purpose. So I had to make a choice: Stay in my comfort zone knowing that I will never find fulfillment at work or pivot completely and essentially start over in my forties. I chose the latter. 3. How did you start GenXwoman? During a girls’ night out, Megan Fox, a friend and now biz partner, and I were commiserating over the lack of representation of our version of midlife (we didn’t call it that then!) on and offline. As 40-something, single, and childfree women with successful careers, we felt completely left out of the discussion and totally disconnected from the prevailing narrative of who a woman in her 40s should be or should do. We were also shocked at the negativity and doom mentality surrounding this topic. We believed (and still do) that we can “have it all”, we had big dreams and felt at the prime of our lives but the media was telling us that we should think and feel otherwise.
1. Who Is Dena K Martines: I’m a Generation X woman, co-founder and COO of GenXWoman, a media company for Gen X women by Gen X women. I’m also a Career Transformation Coach and founder of a boutique recruitment firm. I am what some call a multi-passionate entrepreneur but I define myself as someone living her life purpose through some of its many possible expressions. I’m also a doggie mom to my spunkie mutt, Baxter, and a self-proclaimed citizen of the world.
As we dug deeper, we realized that the negative narrative was not just around women our age but included an entire generation. And so it became clear that the space of inspiration and upliftment that we had envisioned for ourselves and other women like us could possibly benefit an entire generation of women, Generation X. Nine months after that first conversation, we launched IGenXWoman.com. Get to know Dena at www.denakmartines.com.
