mily and Stephanie were twin flames brought together by bright pink lipstick. Though their friendship began with Stephanie stalking Emily through costume racks they quickly became sisters. They worked together at a children’s theater where they taught their students to be brave, thoughtful, and most importantly themselves. Once the pandemic hit they both lost their jobs, and as Stephanie says floated in a pool of insecurity knowing they couldn’t

sustain that lifestyle. They both truly missed educating their students, working together, and having real conversations about real issues….so Cycle Chats was born! They started their podcast to empower millennial women through education on their minds, bodies, and souls while de-stigmatizing what it means to be a woman. Cycle Chats focuses on getting women real information from real experts talking about taboo topics while also stopping the competition and starting the collaboration between women. So, as we say on the podcast, we hope you’ll sync up with us.

Letter from the Publisher Back to Basics. Do you hate starting over? Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board. Keep what’s working and trash the rest. After creating Women’s Quarterly Magazine for 3 years now. We finally have figured out what not only works for our team, but for our audience. We will continue to grow and improve and make changes where necessary. So, what changes did we make? We will be collaborating with some truly amazing women. They will show up in our new Contributors section. Please seek them out on Instagram and give them kudos. We will be using proven marketing techniques to reach a broader audience and to make our posts, (that we work so hard on, by the way), actually be viewed and focusing on increased engagement. Thank you for commenting on our posts, too. We will be seeking out VIP Partnerships to support the monetary growth of the magazine. This is important because in order to get approved for distribution, if you’re a magazine, you gotta sell magazines. Everything can’t be for free. It is very surprising to me how many people in business have yet to grasp this concept. What has NOT changed? WQ will continue to provide resources that will empower and support women worldwide in the topics of money, business, career, self-care and self-awareness. Thank YOU for being on this journey with us. We appreciate you. Peace and Blessings, xoxo

How to build your brand 101? Branding Tip: Choosing a brand name. Choosing your brand name can be the hardest part of starting your brand. Editor’s Pick Here is our favorite article from the WQ website: 10 Tips to Have a Mindful Summer By Dean McMurray Vitamin D - The power of the sun and vitamins cannot be understated. It does a world of good for the mind, body, and spirit (after all, we are basically a complex house plant with emotions). But I’d be remiss if I didn’t say to go with moderation. Just like (and I know I’m going to make some enemies here) wine and chocolate. If there are questions or concerns, please consult with your primary healthcare provider. Socialize - Society is slowly making its way back to interacting with others in public. And let's face it, we are social creatures. Go hit the beach, a concert, a garden party, Red Carpet Premiere or even a backyard BBQ. Whatever the event is, get out and socialize with others. Laugh - When was the last time that you laughed? The good old fashioned belly laugh. The last three years or so have been challenging for us all. Break open that daily joke book, maybe it’s a funny movie, or just spending time with people who make you smile and laugh.

Tax-time savings tips to help you keep more of your money

Creating super summer snacks with grapes is a breeze

It’s tax time and Americans are thinking about how they’re going to spend their tax refunds. According to the Internal Revenue Service, the average tax refund was close to $3,000 last tax season, so who wouldn’t want to get that money back in their pocket?

Early summer marks the beginning of the California grape season. These bite-size treats are the perfect snack - crisp, sweet and only 90 calories per 3/4 cup serving. Grapes are also very juicy, making them a welcome source of hydration as outdoor activities and temperatures increase.

Ask the Experts

Q& A

Q: How to keep your skin

looking young and healthy?

A:

Sun protection. Avoiding the sun is the best way to prevent damage from its UVA and UVB rays, but as summer arrives and spending time outdoors takes over, it's often unavoidable. Using a skin cream with a minimum SPF of 20 will help protect your skin, but you should also use clothing, like hats, lightweight long-sleeved shirts and long pants, to keep the sun off your skin. Photo: @pexels.com

Q: How to present yourself in the A:

best light at all times?

Demonstrate social media graces: Every modern beauty has to deal with a bad day or unanticipated incident from time to time – long lines, flight delays, fashion mishaps – but no one likes a complainer. Always keep it positive on social media. With so many professional contacts now having access to coworkers’ personal pages, it is smart to resist the urge to vent in public. Confide in a close friend Photo: @pexels.com

Q: How to grow your business on a A:

shoestring budget?

Social media is still the best way to grow your business because it is free and you can set your own advertising budget when you do get some funds. However, drown out the noise. You DO NOT have to post every day on every single platform. You DO need to be consistent. Figure out what this looks like for YOU based on your time. One day a week? Choose which platforms best support your brand. If your business is more local. Take advantage of adding your business profile to every single business directory. 18 WQMagazine.com

Ask the Experts ................ 5 Ways to Stay Fit Despite a Busy Schedule by Betty White A demanding work schedule and a busy private life often leave us with not enough time for practicing selfcare. Working overtime, raising kids, catching up with friends – all of these contribute to our hectic lifestyles. It’s only natural to occasionally struggle with fitting exercise and a healthy diet into your daily routine. However, it’s exactly at times like this that you need to work out and have healthy habits the most. Not only will it boost your general well-being, but it will also help you deal with all the other challenges in your life – from work to family life. Here are some excellent tips on how to stay fit despite a busy schedule!

Ten minutes of exercise is better than no exercise at all If you want to stay fit despite a busy schedule, don’t forget that every minute counts! Stretching for ten minutes or parking further away from the office in order to walk more will do wonders for your metabolism. Five minutes of yoga or meditation will help you clear your mind and relax. All of these activities add up and make you healthier. Staying fit is not only about losing weight – it’s also about flexibility, strength, endurance, and well-being on the whole.

Eat healthy meals Apart from exercise and physical activities, a healthy diet is another crucial factor. In our everyday rush, we sometimes forget to eat, opt for

fast food way too often or rely on snacks to keep us going. However, to stay healthy and feel energetic, it’s crucial to have a balanced diet. Healthy meats and fish, whole grains, fresh fruit, and vegetables – all of these contain nutrients our bodies need to function properly. Although the prospect of cooking may seem daunting and time-consuming, it doesn’t have to be. Here are some ways to incorporate tasty and healthy meals into your hectic schedule: plan and prepare your meals in advance – carve out a couple of hours during the weekend to make a few simple meals (such as pasta, salads, or wraps) for the following week – this will reduce the stress later on and provide you with balanced meals; keep the snacks light – there are many delicious and simple snacks to keep you energized between the meals find a restaurant that serves readymade meals – it will be a lot healthier than fast food, and it will save you a lot of time

Drink enough water Another thing many people forget during a busy day is to drink enough water. It sounds so simple, and yet, a lot of us neglect it. Our bodies need water to stay hydrated – two liters a day, at least! The lack of it will affect your mood, digestion, focus, and health in general. Therefore, pick up a bottle, fill it with water and carry it wherever you go!

When thinking about staying fit, most people think of the gym, running, exercise, etc. However, sleep is equally important. When we sleep, our muscles relax, and our bodies use this time to recover from the stress of the day behind us. With enough rest, you’ll feel fresh and regenerated in the morning. For this reason, ensure you don’t cut out on this! Organizing a busy household or chasing a promotion at work will be much harder without a proper night’s sleep.

Take a deep breath and relax! Last but not least, take a few minutes to focus on yourself every day. You can just sit and relax, enjoy a view out of the window, meditate, or do whatever makes you calm. We’re not robots who can do everything perfectly every time. So, take a minute or five to appreciate what you find precious and enjoyable. Follow these tips on how to stay fit despite a busy schedule the best you can, and soon, you’ll notice many positive changes in your lifestyle! Photo: Olya Kobruseva @pexels.com

Women will be empowered by stories of transformation and triumph. This issue will also include practical advice for women who wish to exact positive change in their lives. Our Features include:

Reader Review Have you tried McBride Sisters Winery? After finishing half the glass, I was very impressed with the quality and was completely sold on the brand! The Rose and Sauvignon Blanc are light to medium-bodied, I taste hints of citrus notes and it has a slightly dry finish. Always serve the wine perfectly chilled, I promise you will be drinking these wines beyond the summer months! I would recommend pairing the wines with Indian and Thai food, it's providing a nice balance with medium spiced to really spicy dishes. But the wines taste so good on their own, you may be tempted to have two glasses! The third wine I have tried is the "Black Girl Magic Zinfandel" a medium-bodied red wine — it's similar to a Pinot Noir. It's velvety smooth on the palette, I would recommend pairing this wine with grilled meats and vegetables or charcuterie board. But you may just want to enjoy a glass after a long day. The wine prices are similar to other high-quality brands, they offer discounts for first time customers and wine bundles as well. www.mcbridesisters.com

Publisher's Pick The benefits of sleeping on a satin pillowcase. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase can reduce wrinkles and eliminate hair loss and breakage. Your face glides smoothly over the silky satin, keeping lines and wrinkles to a minimum. It’s also amazing for your hair. As your hair glides over the silky satin, it eliminates the damaging friction that you get when you sleep on a cotton pillowcase. This pillowcase comes in an array of colors and can be purchased on Amazon.

Four simple tips to create delicious, quality meals at home Using quality ingredients doesn’t mean everything needs to be made from scratch. Pack fresh vegetables into family favorites like classic salads and sandwiches. Pick out the main ingredient in your recipe and aim for quality. Annual Readers Poll. Travis didn’t initially begin in radio. A graduate of McNally Smith School Of Music in Minnesota he began as a touring and performing musician. His travels led him to New York City where he branched out into acting appearing on “The Sopranos” tv show, “Got Milk,” “Heineken Beer,” commercials and even a Kid Rock music video. He helped relaunch the live music program for the Hard Rock Cafe in 2000 which began his love of helping discover new artists. After a short spell in Las Vegas, he moved to LA where he would work closely with rock artist Phil Varone (Saigon Kick/Skid Row) and his highly popular music and comedy show. He eventually appeared on an episode of “Charm School” featuring the “Rock Of Love” girls. He rounded out his time assisting with band bookings at a local Hollywood venue, in particular finding opening bands for the now popular “Steel Panther!”

Travis is considered one of radio’s hardest working personalities. From his blue-collar style work ethic, to his creative content and innovative approach of spicing up radio format, he has been labeled a renaissance man by his peers. 24 WQMagazine.com

He has been featured in numerous publications regarding his devotion to fair airplay for female artists, his proud representation of his Native American culture, and advocacy for local artists. Book Overview: Are you constantly casting yourself in your own mind as the "loser" who doesn't measure up no matter how many "wins" you've accomplished? Do you raise the bar so high for yourself to the point where all the positive things in your life are overshadowed by pain and suffering, a lot (not all) of which you've brought upon yourself trying to prove your worth to others? Erin Logan learned the hard way that what you think of YOU is really what matters. With a rude awakening in 2010, being arrested and publicly humiliated "ad nauseam," as a former boss describes it, Logan continued to run from her inner battle with self-doubt. Things got worse as she made it her mission to prove the haters wrong by focusing ONLY on getting her career back on track, reporting and anchoring in top markets, yet she kept "running from the truth" by not figuring out why she was unhappy. This real-life story by Logan, with insightful contributions from her dad, sounds the alarm to be brave by admitting your flaws and figuring out what's holding you back from leading a happy, fulfilling life. It also highlights the importance of learning from your mistakes, the power of forgiveness, living in the present, and exiting stage left from situations or people bringing you down. Men We Love Todd Anthony Tyler Q & A with Todd Anthony Tyler. Globally recognized fashion and advertising photographer, reality TV show judge and former model. In our Interview with Todd-he talks marriage, parenting and living a healthy lifestyle.

Relationships take work. What are the building blocks and components that have worked for you andyour wife? Yes, there is no doubt that even the most solid of relationships take you putting in time, compromise, understanding, being supportive and some good old-fashioned love. One of the main components of our marriage that has made us stay strong and together came right from the start of the relationship when a conversation on us just wanting to be where the other person is, set the tone of how we felt an d thought. No doubt, trust, faith, good communication with each other are strong factors, but the somewhat simple idea of just being together has been the core of us staying together. Those shared experiences-even simply daily ones go a long way in forming a lasting relationship. I know not everyone has a life that can perhaps have couples together as much as we do, but that has been what works for us. It can be quite easy for couples to start to form separate lives when they are not together-especially for long periods of time. Those separate lives can end up having a life of their own completely removed from your spouse 28 WQMagazine.com

which then can turn into something divisive. With my son now, I always find that sharing as much as possible taking care of him is very good for our relationship. My wife does a lot with him, especially as she is still breastfeeding and there are times when one parent is best at doing something then two pulling at the baby, but being present for baby carrying and diaper changing is very important in understanding each other and once again shared experience.

Now that you are a parent, how has this influenced your decisions? I admit I was not one pining away to be a father. I was ok with the idea that I might never be a father or that I have so many things going on that maybe a child just doesn't work with my lifestyle. Now that I am a father, I don't know how I could have ever thought that. Yes, having a baby changes your life. It is true about the sleep for sure-8 hours of sleep does not exist anymore. He is almost a year old and I have not had any solid sleep for a year ... haha. Decision wise I would say I am much more aware of the responsibility to be present as amfather. I have always been Mr. Adventure-skydiving, scuba diving, bungee jumping, barreling down a hill on my mountain bike-kind of grab the world by the package and give it a swing kind of a guy. Now, I am thinking I need to be around for many years to come. I want to be here for him, I want to see him grow up, I want to spend all my time with him. Now the thrill for me is the wonder in his eyes when he sees something new, all the firsts and just that moment when he holds you tight and you feel unconditional love.

Tell us your best healthy lifestyle tips. To me there is no doubt one of the best things you can do for yourself is take care of your health. Good health is like having money in the bank. We all often get caught up so much in all the things we are supposed to do every day that we don't take time to take care of ourselves both physically and mentally. I am not saying not to enjoy your life, but live with balance. I am a big fan of trying all different types of cuisine and greatly enjoy trying different beers and whisky, a lot of times people think because I stay fit I only workout and eat salad which is not true. My tips are based on scheduling or planning. Schedule physical fitness activities for yourself each week. I have my gym time or runs in my schedule as a meeting. Staying healthy is a very important meeting that should not be superseded by crossing more things off the to do list. The same goes for eating-most meals I eat a balanced meal of healthy choices from lean sources of protein to complex carbs and healthy fats while generally drinking water. However, then I have my times during the week where I enjoy a few drinks-eat pizza and burgers or whatever it is I would like to indulge in. The main points are-balance-planning-enjoying in moderation. @toddanthonytyler www.toddanthonytyler.com

The question I get the most is how do I keep my dog from shedding so much or matting? I didn’t start grooming overnight nor was I born a groomer but something in me even as a child said that animals especially dogs need a bath. If you ask my mother she would tell you about the times after school and the weekends I would spend bathing and brushing some stray wetting down the porch and coming in smelling much worse than the dog I “saved”. So when I tell my clients to brush their dog I am super passionate about it. I myself own several dogs with different coat types and I use different brushes and combs for each of them. For Akuma and Taz (American Akitas) I use a bristle brush or a deshedding blade. The latter I recommend because it helps to pull out what is called the undercoat. Hershey (long haired Mixed breed) his coat also sheds much like any other dog but because he is more prone to matting due to his longer coat, I use a metal comb and bristle brush for him. My bristle brushes I purchase tend to be either silicone or metal. They are high quality but trust me they are worth every penny. Now this is the part that gets most pet owners. Time. They never have the time to brush their pet properly and that can lead to matting and if you bring them to a professional such as myself either shaving or at the very least a fee for the extra work of dematting the coat. If you have time to watch a television show you have time to brush your dog. That’s my greatest bit of advice: brush your dog. You, your dog and your local groomer will love you for it.

Beauty Hacks Get the Best Out of Your Mascara and Take Your Lashes to the Next Level by Thuy Tran This essential product can go from being your best friend to your worst enemy in a blink of an eye and finding the perfect one can be a life-long mission and battle. You don’t have to go through this alone. Here are 7 tips and tricks to get the most out of your mascara and change your lash game, forever.

1. Get the right one. If you feel like

your lashes aren’t looking like the way you’d like them to, maybe you are using the wrong one. Just like humans, mascara wands come in all different types of shapes and sizes—you just have to find the one that meets your needs. There are endless types of wands out there for every type of lashes. Here are a few examples: Classic wands: If you want a more voluminous result, this style of wand is the one you need! Tampered comb wand: The comb-like bristles on this wand will help you separate your lashes and perfect for full coverage but not volume. Curved comb wand: The wand imitates your lashes’ natural curl so its purpose is to curl the lashes while preventing it from clumping.

2. Wiggling instead of sweeping. Here’s a trick to effectively cover all of your lashes while separating them at the same time. Use the wiggling effect. To achieve this, just lightly move the wand from side to side, in a zig-zag motion from the root of your lashes to the tip as opposed to sweeping motions. Doing makeup is already time consuming, the last thing you want is to wait for a product to dry. However, allowing each coat to set is important when applying multiple coats of mascara. Try applying one coat first and let it set while you move to the next step of your make-up routine, then come back to put on another coat and so on. This will prevent you from having one thick chunky coat.

4. Primer Primer Primer.

Yes, lash primers are a thing and they do wonders for your lashes. Before applying mascara, swipe on a coat or two of lash primer and let it dry for thirty seconds for that extra length, curl and volume. Your lashes will be thanking you! Ever had to throw away an expensive mascara just because you thought it was empty? Contact solution is not just a solution for fixing dry contact lens but also dried-up mascara tube. Squirt a few drops of saline solution into your mascara tube and gently mix it. The wet formula of the contact lens solution will help add moisture and consistency to the dried mascara.

5. Dried-up mascara?

6. Use it as eyeliner.

You can kill two birds with one stone by using mascara as eyeliner. The trick would work best using a creamier mascara. Just use any eye makeup brush to apply the product to your lash line. Applying mascara can get messy. Try using the card trick. All you have to do is place a business sized card behind your lashes to keep the product from getting on your lid or eyeshadow and apply your mascara.

7. Getting messy?

3. Give it some time to set.

As a result of the technological world we live in, we have many options for calling those that are dearest to us. The first option is a traditional phone call. Hearing someone over the phone but not video chatting the person allows you to multi-task if needed. The second option is a video chat service such as FaceTime, or Houseparty. Facetime is a great way for iPhone users to connect with the ability to see the other person virtually. Another option is Houseparty; Houseparty operates like FaceTime, but it allows you to interact with the user(s) in the call through the experience of playing games. This is a fun

and unique way to spend time with the ones you love, no matter the distance! Buy something that is just for you Treating yourself does not have to come at a costly price. Setting aside a little bit of money for something that is just for you is a great way to motivate yourself. Examples of small, but treat-worthy purchases include- ice cream you have been craving, the beautiful nail polish you saw in Target, or the flowers you have wanted to place on the center of your dining room table. Whatever you desire, if you plan it just right, anything can serve as a treat!

Life's Survival Guide W

Declutter Your Home, the Marie Kondo Way

ho is Marie Kondo you ask? Most know her as Japan’s queen of tidiness, a title that came after the success of her Netflix show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo and her bestselling book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Saving millions of people from their clutter nightmare, her “KonMari” method is simply a system of organizing your home by getting rid of items that don’t bring you happiness. When tidying up your house, KonMari teaches you to ask one simple question, “Does it spark joy?”. If the item doesn’t, get rid of it.

This question has been repeated again and again throughout Kondo’s lessons. Does it bring you joy? Just like the meaningful people in our lives we choose to keep because they bring the best out of us, every item we own should bring the same meaning and joy when we pick it up. Kondo recommends holding the object in your hands and verbally asking yourself, “Does this spark joy?”, “Will I use this?”. If not, we recommend getting rid of it.

Here are the 5 tips you need to know from the tidying expert:

1. Be grateful and let it go. Do you have an old favorite T-shirt that you know has been living in the back of your closet for years now? In your head, you know it has no purpose in your life, yet, in your heart, you can’t seem to get rid of it because of the memories it holds. Yes, it can be a bit weird to say “Thank you” to your inanimate objects but it is another way to say “good-bye”. This part is very important in the first step of letting go. Kondo emphasizes the importance of cherishing the items that do spark joy and letting go of the rest with gratitude. So, detach, say thank you and just trust the process.

2. Does it spark joy?

living rooms. However, Kondo’s approach is a bit different. Instead, she encourages decluttering according to categories, not location. This just means picking a category (clothing, books, papers, etc.) and starting from there. The reason for this is that similar items are usually scattered around your home, not just in one area.

4. Fold Fold Fold! We know that Kondo is a major advocate for folding clothes as they are always “happier” inside your dresser. From T-shirts to pants to socks, Kondo has a way of folding any article of clothing so you can make the best of your space. In her book, she suggests a folding technique called the vertical fold, a fold that allows all your clothing pieces to be seen and unbothered when digging for the shirt you want to wear.

5. Storage boxes

3. Tackle categories, not location When it comes to cleaning, we can all agree that most of us tackle our clutters by locations—from bedroom to the kitchen and to our

Kondo believes in simplicity. By simplifying your storage, you can alleviate the stress of moving. However, you should try avoiding plastic, as it is bad for the environment. Since Kondo is so passionate for organization, she created her own line of Hikidashi storage boxes, a sturdier version than your average shoebox. Plus, it’s plastic free! US5 have shown that they are not a “one hit wonder”, and that their success is not a fluke. It didn’t matter if the boys released a mellow ballad, or a high-energetic dance song, the single became a hit. The band continued their winning streak with songs like, "In the Club" and “Rhythm of Life”. These guys have won countless prestigious awards and got praising reviews from the

Carrie Berk, 19-year-old influencer, actor and bestselling author, says “It’s important now more than ever, to give a voice to mental health issues. We need to normalize mental health so young people are comfortable speaking about how they feel and seeking help.” Some of her friends contributing to the video entitled, “Mental Health Matters” include, reality TV star Whitney Port-Rosenman, Victoria's Secret supermodel Joy Corrigan, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooks Nader, Batsheva Haart (Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life), Jaidyn Triplett (iCarly), Miss New York Sydney Park, and John Paul Jones (The Bachelorette). Q&

A

How did mental health become a topic you want to talk about? I suffer from anxiety and OCD. I’ve always been scared to talk about it on my social media. Inherently, platforms like Instagram encourage us to present the best versions of ourselves. We are in the middle of a mental health crisis—suicide is one of the leading causes of death among teenagers. I wanted to take a stand and help raise awareness for mental health. I want to advocate for greater mental health education in schools. I also want to emphasize how important it is to check in on your friends—you never know what someone is going through.

What is your greatest accomplishment yet?

What is your favorite quote and why?

I take the greatest amount of pride in my writing. Seeing a byline never gets old! I’m also really excited to be attending college and studying the two fields I’m most passionate about: journalism and writing.

I’m going to sound like a Peloton superfan at this point (because I am!). Peloton instructor Robin Arzon says, “you have made it through 100% of your bad days.” I think that’s a beautiful perspective to have when you’re struggling and need some reassurance that you’ll get through it.

More about Carrie

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Kendall Toole is a Peloton instructor and mental health advocate who I look up to. Her bravery in sharing her story and using her past to empower others is extremely inspiring. I hope that when I’m older, I can have just as big of an impact on others.

I am working on my first YA non-fiction book about teenage dating. This is a departure from the children’s books I wrote with my mom when I was younger. I’m very excited for people to hear my individual voice as a writer.

Carrie proudly serves as an anti-bullying activist, working with No Bully as teen ambassador for over five years. She has made it her mission to encourage tweens and teens to practice empathy and respect among their peers, both in everyday life and on social media. She speaks to children in schools and does media interviews on the topic of bullying/cyberbullying to raise awareness. She attends college in NYC, majoring in journalism and fashion studies, and is at work on a memoir. www.carrieberk.com

nough. What a shapeshifter word. Our world seems to revolve around the many interpretations of the two syllable term. “Enough!” a frazzled mother proclaims to her children who are incessantly bickering. “Enough” I mumble sheepishly when my husband asks if I got sufficient sleep. Enough food to stave off hunger, enough time to chase a never-ending chore list, enough money to make it through another month. Some where in this narrative of ‘enoughs’ we find ourselves grappling with the existential dread of “Am I enough?” The immense pressure to be ‘greater than’ has plagued us as humans since before history could capture its essence. We strive to one-up one another in desperate attempts to have concrete evidence that we are, in fact, enough. Add being a woman into the mix, and the pressure is deafening. Get enough sleep. Eat enough healthy foods. De-stress enough and take your vitamins enough to have a healthy enough pregnancy. Smile enough to ensure no one sees the struggle of chasing parenthood. Once you’re in the throws of postpartum make sure you do enough. Be at your infant’s beck and call, the wife, and the employee. Put on enough make-up to hide the circles that give away your humanness. This is the point of the story that I wish I could look to you and authentically say “it gets better.” That your resiliency, your grit, and your struggle will find sweet relief. Instead, perplexity fills my gaze as I look a round at the onslaught of ‘mom-shaming’.

“You’re feeding them that?" “You’re letting them go out in that?” Change the script and refocus on the women who choose to pave different versions of their own paths. Those who choose to have fur-children over the latter. Those who choose independence over marriage. Those who do what they feel authentically fits them, yet undeniably breaks free from the mold of tradition. The consideration of choice is also a perspective many overlook. Sometimes, infertility rests behind a woman’s eyes. Sometimes, the death of a soulmate lingers. Sometimes, loving out loud is a dangerous feat and coming out to others is a risk that is unfathomable. Most of the time, it’s no one’s business. “When will you settle down?” “You’re working too much.” “You’re going to regret it.” ENOUGH! It’s not a mystery as to why a theme within the therapy room is the continuous question of self-worth. I have yet to find a fellow woman that has not questioned their own self-value at one time or another. This is such a shame-laced spot to be. The systems surrounding us suffocate us within idealistic societal expectations that hypocritically differ from the norm. It’s as if we let ourselves embrace our own authenticity and be happy, our motivation to grow would surely shrivel up.

The fact of the matter is this. You have always been enough. You are enough because you are authentically human. You are undeniably unique and add a perspective solely reserved for you. You add color to this black and white-visioned world, and you are needed. You are enough regardless of how you choose to define your own womanhood. I remember this same group of boys was going to attend a volleyball tournament later that year, and I ended up quitting the team because I just couldn’t stomach being seen in my tiny volleyball uniform. I vividly remember how sick to my stomach I was every time I had to put that uniform on because my thighs were on full display. The problem only got worse as I got older. Pregnancy had changed my body forever after I had severe diastase recti, and that only fueled the problem. I spent years bandwagon diets. How to Create a Family Budget For singles, creating a budget is relatively easy. They tend to have a good handle on how much money they have coming in, and when tracking expenses, they only have their own to think about. But creating a family budget is a whole new ball game. Most families have multiple sources of income. And when there are multiple spenders, that makes things much more confusing. This is one of the main reasons that families lack a formal budget. But having a budget and sticking to it can greatly improve a family's financial outlook. Making a family budget may be tricky, but it can be done. Here's how.

payments, groceries, and everyday expenses such as lunch money and transportation costs.

4. Get the family together and dis-

cuss ways you can trim the budget. Getting input from other family members will help you determine which expenses are necessary and which ones could be cut down or eliminated. Maybe you or your spouse could start taking lunch to work instead of eating out, or maybe the kids can drop an extracurricular activity.

5. In addition to individual expens-

es, discuss how you can cut down on the electric bill, groceries and other necessary family expenses. Consider such things as carpooling or taking public transportation, buying more generic foods and adjusting the thermostat.

1. Take inventory of all income. If a 6. Estimate how much you can save

2. Keep track of all expenses for

a month or so. Keep all of your receipts, and ask all family members to turn theirs in to you each day.

3. Add up your monthly expenses. Be sure to include bills, debt

on regular expenses, and cut the completely unnecessary items out of the budget. Then refigure it and see where you stand.

7. If you end up with a surplus,

allocate a portion of it to savings. If you're in the red, go back and rework the budget until you have more income than expenses. Being Realistic

One reason that family budgets often fail is because they're just not realistic. It's great to cut down on expenses, but sometimes we tend to go too far. For example, cutting entertainment out of the budget completely might look good on paper, but we all need a little diversion every now and then. Instead of cutting such things out of the budget completely, consider finding ways to lower the cost. Going back to the entertainment example, maybe you've been going to dinner and a movie as a family twice a month. But eating in and renting a new release would be much cheaper, and you would still get to spend quality time together. Individual expenses can also be tricky. This can be resolved by allocating a certain amount for each family member to spend each week. If someone spends his entire amount before the week is up, reevaluate his expenses and adjust if necessary. Creating a family budget can help keep spending under control, leaving more money to pay down debts and save for future goals. But in order to succeed, close monitoring is essential. Your efforts will be rewarded, however, with less financial stress and more money in the long run.

5 BusinessKilling Mistakes you’re Making Every Day As the great Benjamin Franklin once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” With all the moving parts of a business to look after, it’s no wonder that some things fall through the cracks, thus affecting your business growth and bottom-line profits. Let’s examine 5 mistakes that will diminish your profits if not fixed right away.

instead of using SMS technology to send text message reminders to confirm? Even posting on social media can be automated using platforms such as Hootsuite or Meet Edgar. Yes, these automation tools cost money but compare the monthly or annual costs to the cost of an employee or a virtual assistant doing the same task. The old school ways are much more time consuming, thus costs you more money in the long run. A business coach will be knowledgeable about the latest technology that can help you automate while sticking within your budget.

1. Inconsistent Marketing It’s just not enough to publish one Facebook post or a couple of tweets every week. Likewise, ignoring your email list is also detrimental to your business. If you don’t keep up with a consistent marketing plan, people will forget your name, will forget how they ended up on your email list, or forget why they’re following you on social media. These forgotten people need to be won over yet again and they need to hear and see your company name on a consistent basis before they decide to spend money on your products or services. A business coach can offer solutions and ideas to make your marketing more consistent and more effective.

2. Failure to Automate Are you stuck in the old school way of doing things, like making phone calls to confirm appointments

4. Bad Money Management What processes do you have in place for your bookkeeping and paying your monthly invoices? Do you have any idea what your income vs expense spreadsheet looks like? Do you have a habit of buying training classes that you don’t have time to use? There’s no reason you should be surprised at tax time with how much (or how little) profit you made in the last year. Businesses that are positioned for growth have good money management solutions in place and a business coach can help you create a budget for your business along with solid processes for handling your monthly expenses.

5. Reluctance to Reinvest in Your Business

3. Poor Branding or Messaging What is your company’s mission? What is your Unique Selling Point? If you can’t answer these two questions, you need to revisit your messaging and your business image. Branding is more than your logo and business colors; branding is your overall image and what you promise to your customers. A business coach can ask the right questions that help you drill down to those core principles that drive your business.

Think of reinvesting as a way to grow your business. Instead of taking the extra profits out to pay yourself every month, keep those profits in the business and use them to hire a virtual assistant, purchase software or training tools that will help your business, or invest in a business coach. Each of these reinvestment options will help your business run more efficiently so you can have more time to serve your customers and prospects. Of course, you should pay yourself a salary every month. It’s the profits (or a percentage of the month’s profits) that should remain in the business to help it grow. photo on pexels.com

Social Media Tips for Female Entrepreneurs Serenity Chambers Social media doesn't have to be a struggle or burden for female entrepreneurs. With the right approach, you can use social media to build connections with potential clients and partners, and even grow your brand in the process. Here are some tips for using Instagram, TikTok and other social platforms to your advantage when you're launching or growing your business:

Start by branding your social media profiles. Your brand is how people perceive and remember you, so it's important that all of your social media accounts have a consistent look and feel. The first step in creating a cohesive online image is choosing the right profile picture for each platform. For example, if you're using a photo of yourself on LinkedIn, use the same photo on other platforms like Instagram or Twitter (or vice versa). If possible, also use a similar profile header photo across all three

networks as well. The color scheme and font should be consistent as well. You can also choose to link these profiles together using social media management apps like HootSuite or SproutSocial so that when someone follows one account from another site (e.g., if they "like" one of your posts), their activity will show up in all connected accounts at once rather than having to log into each individually every time someone likes something new from any given address - meaning there won't need any extra effort put forth into updating anything other than where content needs changing or adding new posts onto existing pages/categories already created earlier down the line!

You don't need to be on every platform, but you do need to be on the right ones. Don't be afraid to try new plat-

forms, but don't spend time on ones that don't suit you. There are a lot of social media platforms out there. It's hard to keep up with them all, and it can be tempting to jump into every single one that comes along. But don't waste your time trying to be everywhere at once—there are plenty of other things going on in your life besides making sure everyone knows about the latest emoji app or gets their daily dose of cat videos from Buzzfeed Tasty . It’s better for you (and for everyone else) if you find those few platforms that work best for you and focus on those instead of spreading yourself thin across every possible network. That doesn't mean being closed off or ignoring anyone who isn’t using the same tools as you; it just means prioritizing what works best for YOUR business so that when someone finds YOU through YOUR channel(s), they get an authentic experience and not some watered down version of YOU based on what OTHER people have done in other spaces and places over which THEY have more control than YOU do (the internet is big).

Be sure to highlight your female-focused product or service.

64 WQMagazine.com

Numerous studies have shown that women respond better to products, services and content targeted to them. If you sell a product or service that is particularly female-focused—like makeup or children's

clothing—be sure to highlight this fact in all of your social media posts and marketing materials. You can start by using the word "female" in the name of the business itself, as well as any other words that describe or define it (e.g., "women's"). For example: - Highlight what makes your company different from its competitors: - Our company specializes in women's footwear.

Avoid posting anything you wouldn't say in person when you're speaking with a potential client, investor or business partner.

When you're starting a business, the importance of networking can't be overstated. It's not just about finding clients and making sales—it's also about building relationships with people who will help your business grow by giving advice and introducing you to other potential partners.

You should never post anything that you wouldn't say in person. This is especially important when it comes to potential investors, clients and business partners. These people will want to know more about who you

But while social media makes it easy to connect with anyone from anywhere, it's also easy to miss out on opportunities that come up in real life. For example, if you attend an event where someone mentions they need help with their website or web design, but don't go ahead and follow up afterwards because they live far away or don't have a Facebook page or Instagram handle listed in their bio…well then you'll never know what could've been unless one day they decide to drop into your DMs! (Don't do that.)

- We are proud of our female focus!

Having conversations online is essential. One of the most important things to remember when using social media is that it’s not just about you. Social media interactions should be more about your audience and creating relationships. People want to know who you are, what makes you tick and how they can help make your business succeed. It’s not about selling yourself or products; it’s about sharing information with others in a genuine way so that they will want to support you and your brand. If you have a solid community on social media then people are more likely to follow through with purchasing from your business because they feel connected with it and its values. This can also give credibility within their own circles as someone who has “got their stuff together!”

are as a person, and what makes you tick. If they like what they see on your social media pages, they'll be much more likely to work with you than if they don't.

Move things offline as soon as possible and continue the conversations from online with in-person meet-ups.

To get around this issue (and many others), try moving things offline as soon as possible and continuing the conversations from online with in-person meet-ups. Not only does this make it easier for everyone involved; it also provides a personal touch that builds trust between parties more quickly than any form of digital communication possibly could do alone! The point of social media is to connect with people and build your brand, so remember these tips when you're creating your profiles. Remember that the more personal you are on social media, the better it will be for building relationships. Don't forget about taking things offline and meeting up with people in real life!

Empowering Women to Create their Own Vision

I

Hazel Williams

t's time for women to start taking care of themselves both physically and mentally. Too often, we put everyone else's needs before our own and end up feeling exhausted and stressed out. But, when we take the time to nurture ourselves, we become strong and confident, and we can go out into the world and take on whatever life throws at us! I ask myself what’s interrupting MY life? Of course, I didn’t have the answer right away, I had to ask myself eight (8) times, and I had to dig deep to find the answer. I came to the uncomfortable realization that it wasn’t just one thing interrupting my life, it was several things. I had to get really up close and personal with myself. I unpacked the childhood trauma of living in social housing, becoming a teenage single parent, putting employment first to avoid things at home, and desperately wanting to return to school. I took those negative thoughts, the trauma that haunted me, and turned them into positivity. I turned my life around; I took it back! I applied to that university and furthered my education. It was hard at first, I received a lot of passive-aggressive comments about my writing style and structure. This experience resulted in me suffering from anxiety, weight gain, and living in a place where negative self-talk became the norm. It was painful and hurtful to experience but, it allowed me time to think critically about the life I want to live and the goals I want to achieve. This is when Big Girl Interrupted

(BGI) was established. I wanted to build a community where women like myself can live a life where they are bold, empowered, and unapologetic, where they don't have to worry about who they are and who they are becoming. Big Girl Interrupted (BGI) is dedicated to inspire women to uncover, “what is interrupting” their life. We empower women to disrupt the patterns that have impaired their ability to succeed and grow. While learning to stand in their power and discovering their true authentic self. We are manifesting positivity, growth, and success for the future. @biggirlinterrupted @Big Girl Interrupted www.biggirlinterrupted.ca INSPIRATION 2022 69

q&A Where did your interest in football come from?

I actually got into football out of boredom and wanting to still remain active after college track. I was driving one day and randomly saw a flag football tryout sign and went, the rest was history lol literally. I ended up doing extremely well to the point my coach thought I played for years. I also grew up with 3 brothers, 1 being my twin and they all played football. I was always outside with them training

female athlete to own a shoe company.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I want to have the largest shoe company in the world, a bestselling author, world renowned speaker, and so much more!

What is your best advice for young women? Go after everything you want in this life! Don’t be afraid to step into any arena, even the male dominated ones, we are capable of breaking through all glass ceilings.

What is your favorite quote and why?

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me'. I love this quote because this is literally how I live my life. I want God to know I used every bit of talent and found every buried gift he put in me at birth.

and running through drills, so who knows, maybe that was God's way of preparing me lol.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Definitely my mom! She is an entrepreneur and her and my step dad are the reason why I’ve always been an entrepreneur. I grew up watching them hustle and do so many amazing things so it was almost destined for me for to do what I’m doing now.

What is your greatest accomplishment yet?

Definitely making history becoming the first

I

started sketching styles at the age of 11. Then at the age of 13 I started learning how to sew in Home Economic class. Then it became an addiction. In high school I sketched my latest styles I own like a lot of portfolios. At the age of 17 I sewed and designed my own costume for a talent show I was in. I made a dress without a pattern. My mom, My ant and my

grandma use to sew. You can say that it runs in the family. I learned that my Mom designed clothes for my other siblings because clothes were too expensive back in the days. So she cut and sew all of her designs. But I wanted to better my sewing and designing so I took classes at Miami Dade college. I graduated with an associates degree. Then I met Marie Jouberthe in 2008 she taught me how to design my own patterns. Although I still buy patterns from my favorite store Joann Fabrics since I see styles that I like. But I still make them my own. I have done 17 fashion shows so far, I want to do at least 20. I am looking for exposure and benefits of doing a showcase. Also to draw more audience to my work of art. The Juwl’z consignment store which is located in Homestead Florida ac-

cepted my collections. I sold 18 collections until the store went out of business in December 2015. I like anything that is classy and in style. My thing of fashion is I want girls and women to feel comfortable and confident in what they

wear. I also want them to feel good about themselves. I like wearing my clothes. I always like it when they ask me Did you made that? I feel so proud to tell them yes I did! The theme behind Colors Are Beautiful is any style that’s simple and modest. I don’t like styles that are too complex. Although at times I do design clothing that are complex. At times I like to think outside the box. I just love the innovation of fashion. I always have a passion for fashion. My next step is to design menswear and boyswear. My collections got accepted in another consignment store in my area, it’s called Consignment Corner. The store owner liked and picked out 14 collections of mine to sell, and if they do sell more will be going to that store. I always wanted to work in fashion, I know it’s going to take years to do so but I will not give up on my dreams. I am currently attending Florida Technical College at Cutler Ridge. I am studying Business and Marketing and Entrepreneurship so I can learn how to manage my business, I always wanted to open my own boutique so people can just walk right in. I am also doing a lot of photo shoots using models from out of state to build my career up. Now I am actually sponsoring a model her name is Krystle Ramcald she is doing an ad campaign

and billboard in my designs. So I can’t wait to hear about the updates. Yes she has been modeling for me a lot and I am glad that I chose her to promote my designs. I also have been teaching Fashion Design to people that wanted to learn and I know them very well. I want to get back into that. As of this month of March I have been hired from a client/designer to design swimwear for her line. She is already pleased with my work. She is paying me really good. That’s what I like when I get recommendation for my designs.

Rita Richa As an executive podcast producer, founder of Reignite Media, and host of the podcast Bippity Boppity Business, Rita Richa has an extensive background involving the intricacies of B2B podcast development, brand strength capitalization, and enjoys every moment of leveraging that history to continuously help others spearhead their podcasting objectives within this ever-evolving industry.

T

here’s this misconception, that there are “too many” podcasts. When I hear a business leader believe this is true, I ask them, “Are there unique things about your business, your employees, and the products or services you offer? Are there reasons your customers choose to do business with you rather than your competitors?”

76 WQMagazine.com

And, when they answer “Of course there are,” I tell them, Then there’s not just room for one more podcast, there’s a demand for it.” Then we get to work. While lots of agencies offer guidance around content strategy (I provide this, as well,) my own competitive

differentiator is in helping you find your voice. As the host of your podcast, your voice is powerful and essential not only to the success of your show but to your entire brand. I get that it can be daunting to venture into something like podcasting, especially if you believe there are already so many great shows out there. There are lots of great shows out there. But, you know what? Every single one of them started off with a host thinking it was just as daunting, and who had their own doubts of, “Who would want to hear my show?” There’s one similar thread shared by all those other hosts. They found their voice, and they took a chance.

"As the host of your podcast, your voice is powerful and essential not only to the success of your show but to your entire brand. " What’s great about podcasts is that they don’t replace any of what’s already working for your business. They’re a pure value-add, in that they help you reach new audiences who you haven’t yet reached. A well-done podcast enables you to create deeper connections than with any other type of content. They illuminate the real purpose of your business, the culture that grows there, and the personalities that serve and interact with your customers. All of these things combine to build brand loyalty, trust, and a growing audience who can’t wait to hear your next episode. A good storyteller (and if you think I’m talking about someone other than you, I’m not!) can create a connection with their audience that evokes emotion, lasting impressions, and a significant ROI. So, what’s holding you back? Chances are, it’s that you haven’t found your voice yet. I’m delighted to help people do that every single day because I know what’s in it for them, and for an audience that has no idea what an amazing show they’re about to hear.
