Introduction From Wymondham Business Group Chair Hello there… Is it really a year since over 6,000 people rolled up their trousers legs and went for a sun drenched paddle at Wymondham-on-Sea….? Well it’s certainly been a very busy year for the organising committee who for 2015 are bringing us all the fun of Wymondham on the Farm and I’m delighted to welcome you all on behalf of the Wymondham Business Group to join us in celebrating the very best of times. Working closely with South Norfolk Council’s Market Towns Initiative, the last year has seen the Group champion the Wymondham cause in areas such as Dementia friendly signage and shoppers maps throughout the town centre, its carparks and not forgetting both stations. We are once again coordinating town centre events and behind the scenes obtaining grant funding for many that would otherwise not have been able to take place. We are always keen to enlist new members, whether from our local business community or those who see the opportunity to make a difference in the town and have the enthusiasm and determination to help us deliver our aim of building a thriving retail, leisure and tourist economy for generations to come, so do get in touch. Lastly a big thank you to all the volunteers who have made Carnival 2015 the success it already has become. The countless hours of planning meetings, persuading, lobbying and no doubt calling in numerous favours has all been worthwhile and I hope you’ll join me in letting them know how much we appreciate it. So, enjoy yourselves, have a great day and bring on 2016…. Richard Harding. Chairman, Wymondham Business Group 3

5 Years Of Inspiring, And Growing! Norfolk based Inspired Youth is celebrating 5 years this month, an amazing achievement showing that social enterprises have a future in Norfolk. working in teams, which competed for a prize. At the end of the session I explained that the challenge they had just completed was what I did for a job every day. Little did I know that on that day I started an amazing journey that would see me grow a social enterprise delivering events across Norfolk and Suffolk." Inspired Youth was started by local businessman Rob Whitwood back in 2010. Rob explains how Inspired Youth came about. "After many years of working in senior finance roles in Norfolk I decided to go self employed. Shortly after this I want to give something back to the community, and so I set about trying to find an opportunity to talk to young people about careers in maths, because I love maths and I wanted to share that passion. Soon after I started my business an opportunity came up to work with a small group of students in Gorleston, and rather than give a boring talk on working in Finance, I set the students a business problem to solve

Since this time Inspired Youth has grown 50% year on year, and during 2015 has nearly doubled in size. What does Rob put this down to? "I think it is a couple of things. We put a heavy focus on stakeholder engagement, and when we run events in schools, we make sure the young people, the employers and the teachers come away feeling like they have had an amazing experience. We have also worked really hard on sustainability. We make sure that we have multiple income streams to support our work, either through sponsorship, schools or contracting with local authorities. We are passionate about doing an amazing job, and still being here tomorrow." As the end of the academic year approaches, Inspired Youth has worked with nearly 10,000 students since it started in 2010, and involved hundreds of local businesses. Its portfolio of activities includes running enterprise challenges in schools, supporting schools with careers events, hosting major careers events across the region, and working with training providers and employers to create opportunities for local young people.

24

So what is next for Inspired Youth? "These are exciting times for us." commented Rob "We are really busy talking to schools, local authorities and youth charities about partnership working and supporting large scales projects over longer periods of time. I hope this collaborative working will help start to see an improvement to the current youth unemployment statistics. Unfortunately Norfolk has one of the highest levels in the UK, and we see it as situation that everyone can contribute towards in terms of a solutions, from small independent businesses through to large multi-nationals with a base in the region."

Of Iceni' Collective. When you're next in Norwich, why not grab a picture with GoGoKingTut and share them with us, we would love to see them".

If you would like more information about Inspired Youth and some of the projects they are working on visit their website www.inspired-youth.co.uk or connect with them on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

Rob also added "Inspired Youth are proud to have been given the opportunity to get involved with the GoGoDragons trail this Summer, via a link up with the 'Friends 25

EDWARD COUZENS-LAKE Professional Writing Services

Norfolk born writer Edward Couzens-Lake specialises in planning, writing and presenting high quality copy of all types. Blogging For Businesses If your business has a website then you should be making the very most of your online presence by offering your customers a weekly blog. Why? Because it is the best way of connecting with today’s market. It is therefore crucial that your business is well represented online. What is a blog? • A blog is a frequently updated online feature that gives you the opportunity to promote your business in a series of informative articles of 500-750 words. These are aimed at giving you and your business the chance to share your thoughts, expertise and passions. In short, anything that you think will appeal to your existing customers or attract new ones. Why should you have one? • It’s all about communicating with your customers. Publishing a regular blog about your business and what it has to offer should be a vital component of any online marketing strategy. Indeed, if you don’t have a blog on your website, you can be certain that your online presence and the leads and potential it creates for new customers will dwindle. How can I help? • Simple. I will write a weekly blog for you to put on your website. It will focus on promoting your business and professional expertise with the intention of attracting a growing audience of potential customers attracted by your regular updates about what you do, how you do it and why you are amongst the very best at what you do. • I can also start up and manage a Twitter account for you. On Twitter people talk about what they care about and believe in. This can be you talking about your business or people promoting you in the same way. Twitter also gives you the opportunity to communicate with your customers in real time, a form of customer engagement that can help build your business in whatever way you want it to. How can I find out more? • Contact me for more information on how I can help you promote your business. Fees are very competitive and all commissions are undertaken on a month by month basis so you will never be tied into a long term contract or obligation.
