Thought Of The Month
By Alex Wiseman
Which character from a film would you be? When I was growing up I thought Top Gun was the best film of all time [ I still think that to be fair ] and National Lampoons Vacation, which is an extremely funny film. But then I start arguing with myself and suddenly Jurassic park comes into the mix...with Indiana Jones which are classic movies. But It got me thinking...which character would I have been if I could from one of the movies? And I came to the conclusion Maverick (so I could wear the cool sunglasses!!) I wonder if we are still going to be watching all these movies in another 30 years? I do hope so. And in any case I have them all on DVD so I know I will be watching them.

FOSTERS SOLICITORS Issue 23 2015
Fosters Solicitors Important Changes To The Intestacy Rules The Inheritance and Trustees’ Powers Act which came into force on 1st October 2014 changed how an estate is distributed if somebody dies without a Will (“intestate”). The two main changes are: • Increasing the amount which passes to the surviving spouse if there are no children Under the old rules if one spouse died without a Will and there were no children, the survivor received the first £450,000 of the estate absolutely together with half of the remainder and the deceased`s personal effects. The other half passed to members of the deceased`s family in a strict order of entitlement (parents first, then siblings followed by nieces and nephews). If there were no parents, siblings, nieces or nephews the entire estate passed to the surviving spouse. The same rules applied to Civil Partners. From the 1st October if there are no children of the marriage the entire estate passes to the surviving spouse/civil partner. • Simplifying what happens where a spouse dies and the couple do have children As the law was if the husband died first, the widow received the first £250,000 of the estate, the deceased`s personal belongings and a life interest (i.e. the right to the income but not the capital) in half the remainder. Under the new arrangements the surviving wife will receive half of the remainder absolutely instead of just a life interest. The remaining assets would belong to or be held on behalf of the deceased’s children depending on whether they were over 18 or not. While the above changes are welcome having a properly drafted and updated will is by far the better option. Dying intestate still causes unnecessary expense and delays and it is important to consider what would happen if you and your spouse or partner both died at the same time. You may also need to make a Will to appoint Guardians if you have children under the age of 18. Very importantly, unmarried couples are not covered by the new rules and will still receive nothing from their partner’s estate if they die intestate.
For more information, or to book your appointment with a member of the Wills, Trust and Probate team please call 01603 620508. Appointments available in Norwich, Wymondham, Lowestoft and Bungay Offices. PAGE

NINA BAKER
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 23 2015
2014 was a good year for Nina Baker, the pianist-singer-songwriter from Wymondham, Norfolk. Nina’s debut track ‘Single Bed’ won ‘Best Song’ in the 2014 Best Of British Unsigned Awards, and she came runner up in the ‘Best Female’ category. Her followup single 'Bruising' also received extensive global airplay, including BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. Her album ‘Quite Frankly’ dedicated to her late grandfather Frank Baker, was released at the end of the year. Self-written, self-funded and self-produced it has had wide reaching appeal and is widely regarded as one of the best albums of 2014 released by an independent artist. And to finish the year Nina embarked on her first U.S tour, at the end of a schedule which saw her warming up for Robbie Williams and Monty Python at the London O2 and supporting Mark Morriss, Foxes, Henrik Freischlader, Jill and Kate, Mick Flannery and Ella Eyre on their UK and European tours. You would think that she would be satisfied, but the classical trained pianist, famed for her red hair and penchant for tea, is clearly aiming for higher. “To go forward sometimes you need to go back to basics” Nina says candidly. “Getting attention and being in the public eye is wonderful, but it detracts from what actually got me here.” “Last year I played over 100 dates, when you are on the road for that amount of time, together with all the other things the industry expects, you simply do not have time to practise. I want to get back to rehearsing 3-4 hours a day. As I am getting more established I am bringing more of my classical roots into my live show.” A live show that has attracted the interest of the Radio 1 Big Weekend and which will be taking Nina to Holland and Germany over Easter, back to the States in the summer and a proposed tour of the Far East at the end of the year. “I have to make sure that I am in Scotland in August though!” Nina says with a smile. “Lang-Lang is playing at the Edinburgh Fringe and there is no way that I will be missing that!” And what is all this talk about #WeAreIndependent? “It is something that came about during my time in the States. They really encourage anyone out there promoting their music independently. The reception I got was tremendous and it got me thinking, could this work back in the UK?” “#WeAreIndependent is a simple reference to show that you are working, promoting or endorsing independently and not via the large industry machines. Since starting this initiative at the beginning of the year I have received tremendous praise and support from all over the globe.” “It will be very interesting to see how far this can go……..”

The Best Way To Have A Great Day! By Susan Leigh How come some people always seem to be upbeat? They always seem to be smiling, nothing fazes them and yet they inhabit the same world as us. What is it that they're doing perhaps differently? What is the best way to have a great day? Susan Leigh
Let's look at some pointers on the best way to have a great day:
l Consider your perspective on life. Two people can have an identical experience, sit at the same table in a restaurant, choose to eat the same meal. And yet afterwards one person may complain that it was a dreadful evening with slow service and noisy clientele. The other person may have loved every minute, enjoyed the party atmosphere and eating at a slow leisurely pace. Look at how you react to experiences. Would you benefit from a more positive attitude, a more laid back approach? l Treat setbacks as valuable lessons, ways to do things differently, perhaps even better than before. We can have a great day when we're receptive to offers of help after a setback and appreciate how much can be learned at these times. It's often the case that the very things which don't go to plan are the ones that teach us important lessons and open up doors to unexpected new opportunities. l Value what you have in life. Yes, there may well be unpleasant things you cannot change. We all have routine and humdrum in our lives but making sure that we do things well, invest of ourselves, do a good job, take a pride in what we're doing even if we're 'only' sweeping the floor, washing dishes, clearing a pile of ironing can add value and satisfaction to each day. Many people would give everything to be where you are, doing those very same chores. l Give yourself credit for the small things you achieve, the little successes each day. Stop momentarily and say 'well done' at making that difficult phone call, finishing something you were dreading, doing a good deed. When you appreciate what you've done you learn to value yourself and have a great day. l Surround yourself with positive people and things. We all have to live and let live, be polite and tolerant of negative people and experiences sometimes. However, it's important to spend as much time as you can with supportive people who like, respect and encourage you, doing the things that you love, that make you feel great. l Make time for nostalgia and things that remind you of who you are. Laugh and cry at your old photographs, enjoy revisiting your music collection, make time to phone an old friend whom you've not spoken to in a while. Do things that make you feel good, like playing a musical
instrument, getting out your paint brushes, spending time in the garden, walking in the countryside. l Treat yourself well. Wear colours to brighten up your day. Invest time and care in your home, your personal space and make sure it's cozy, warm and welcoming. Buy a lovely bunch of flowers and put them somewhere unexpected like the hall, landing or bathroom. Declutter and recycle the clothes that you no longer wear, the piles of papers, souvenirs and ornaments that are simply collecting dust. Photograph them, if necessary, as a reminder but clear your space and enjoy how much it improves your day. l Look after your health by eating well, exercising, committing to going to bed a little earlier. Turn off your technology, your phone and computer an hour or two before bed and allow time to unwind. Enjoy a relaxing bath with lovely candles and oils and make time for a hair or facial treatment. l Schedule fun ahead so that there's always something to look forward to. Some times of the year can feel a little devoid of fun so check for local events, shows, concerts and then organize a trip with friends or colleagues. Invite friends round for supper or an evening playing cards and board games. Having something in the diary can help you to have a great day. l Volunteering, doing charitable work, being kind to others all are important ways to feel good. When we help others we feel positive, satisfied and useful. Even simple things like smiling at a stranger, saying 'hello', letting someone into the traffic, holding a door open, buying someone a coffee can improve our mood and help us have a better day. l Accept invitations, say 'yes' to opportunities and step out of your comfort zone at times. You never know where they may lead and it's important to occasionally scare yourself a little. Being receptive to new ideas and challenges adds excitement and the potential for new direction to our lives. Engaging fully with life keeps us in the moment and in an optimistic frame of mind. Positive affirmations like 'I love life and life loves me' can support us to live life well, do the best we can and value who we are. All these tips offer ideas on the best way to have a great day. Susan Leigh is a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist who works with stressed individuals to promote confidence and self belief, with couples experiencing relationship difficulties to improve communications and understanding and with business clients to support the health and motivation levels of individuals and teams. Iconic Photographer Rocks 50 Folk World renowned rock photographer, Nick Elliott, is rocking the folk world with the release of 50Folk, a new limited edition, fine art, photographic book to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Cambridge Folk Festival.
Nick Elliott with 50Folk
50Folk features a collection of the iconic rock photographer’s favourite images of folk, blues and Americana performers captured during his time working with artists, record labels and major music publications at the legendary festival. The 132 page, hard-backed book, measures 12 inches square and includes over 80 images of 50 artists performing over a ten year period from 2000 to 2010. Strictly limited to only 250 copies worldwide, every copy is personally signed by Nick himself. Talking about why he chose to create the book, Nick said: “The Cambridge Folk Festival holds a very special place in my heart. Although I am, predominantly, known for being a photographer of rock artists, so much of my career started at this great festival and I really wanted to do a celebration of my involvement in only a part of its 50 year history. “Producing a book of ‘folk’ and ‘blues’ artists could be considered to be a bit of a departure for me but there are so many images I love from my time working there that I wanted to share these with lovers of music, photography, and art, alike.”
Working in the music industry for over 20 years, Nick has photographed some of the most well-known musical artists in the business and his images have frequently been featured on album artwork as well as being published extensively across the media. Known for his unique ability to capture the true essence of the artists’ live performance, Nick’s work is also in demand as fine art and has exhibited in galleries across the UK and Europe, and is currently in discussion to show his images in the USA. The Cambridge Folk Festival celebrated 50 years in 2014 and is renowned for its eclectic mix of music and a wide definition of what might be considered folk. The best traditional folk artists from the UK and Ireland rub shoulders with more contemporary acts, the finest American country, blues and roots artists, acclaimed singer songwriters and even the odd pop star. Featured within the pages of the book is a unique selection of high profile artists including Joan Baez, Robert Plant, Steve Earle, Seasick Steve, Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Levellers, Nanci Griffith, Eddi Reader, Cerys Matthews, Imelda May, Julian Cope and Billy Bragg amongst others. Early numbers of limited edition books are well sought-after and 50Folk is available to buy at £125 (plus delivery) at www.nickelliottstore.com. Adam Spicer is a local chef, caterer and food writer, specialising in modern British cuisine. His ethos on food is to keep it local, seasonal and simple.
Adam Spicer
Heading towards the hunger gap when winter stores ran low and new produce had yet to mature. However, in modern day March things are looking up and the days are getting longer with the Equinox between the 20th and 21st March marking the halfway point to the midsummer solstice. Keep an eye out in your farm stores and supermarkets for some interesting mushrooms such as Morels and Oysters which will start popping up around this time of year.
Wild mushroom raviolo, tarragon cream, toasted pearl barley and summer truffle. Ingredients l 300g of '00' pasta flour l 3 medium free range eggs l 300g of wild mixed mushrooms (I used Morels, Oysters, Chestnuts) l 25ml of double cream l 1 clove of garlic l 4 sprigs of lemon thyme l 1 bunch of tarragon l 25g of pearl barley l grated truffle (optional) For the filling Chop up your mushrooms and garlic and add to a medium pan. Sweat down for 2 to 3 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked. Add the double cream and lemon thyme and stir off the heat until combined. Chill this mixture down fully in a refrigerator before making the raviolo For the pasta Make a well in the centre of the flour and add the eggs. Use a fork to break up the eggs and start to bring the flour in from the sides. As it begins to form a semi-soft dough, start to use your hands to knead for about three minutes or until smooth, silky and elastic. Wrap in clingfilm and allow to rest in the fridge for 60 minutes Remove the pasta from the fridge and divide into 2 small balls. Flatten a ball slightly with the base of your palm and run the pasta through the thickest setting on your pasta machine three of four times. Lightly dust both sides with flour and then run through the machine on the finer setting. Repeat this through the settings until the sheet is around 1mm thick (in my machine it's around setting 7). Repeat this step with the second ball of dough. Roll out a sheet of pasta about 1mm thick onto a generous dusted surface and place a good heaped teaspoon of the filling into the middle of the sheet. Using a clean pastry brush and some water, brush the edges of the pasta and lay another similar size sheet of pasta on top. At this point, use your thumb to gently mould round the edges and push all the air out. Finally use a pastry cutter to cut your desired shape. For the garnish To finish toast some pearl barley in butter on a medium heat until soft and nutty brown. For the sauce, blend double cream with tarragon on the heat with seasoning to create a light, foamy texture. I recommend serving with a chilled German Riesling or a crisp Pinot Grigio.

EAST TWENTY SIX
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 23 2015
Introducing a New Bar and Restaurant in Norwich. East Twenty Six - A place to share. Brought to you by the same team as The Iron House, East Twenty Six is a new bar and restaurant located on Exchange Street in the City Centre offering a fresh and modern take on traditional “tapas”. Housed over two floors, the ground floor features an open kitchen and a large counter dining bar with additional table seating. Upstairs feels light and airy and has the flexibility to accommodate every day dining with the possibility of hosting larger parties, events and live music. The building is thought to date back to the 18th century but having lost its way in recent years had been closed for some time. The owners believed it was necessary to extend the property to realise its full potential. Working closely with local architects, structural engineers and with the assistance of neighbours, City College, the plans were realised during the course of 2014 and opening the week before Christmas. Owner Jeremy King said “We had always wanted to turn the space into another restaurant but felt the impact needed to come from the boldness of the architectural solution allied to a very different style of food from The Iron House.”
The menu was created with small plates at its core using a wide variety of preparation and cooking techniques. Influences from the Mediterranean, North Africa and further afield can be found in an ever changing list of dishes. The essence of the food at East Twenty six is sampling, trying different things, sharing interesting flavours and food combinations. Counter dining, so much a feature of Southern Europe, plays an important part in that casual dining appeal. The large bar is the perfect place to settle in for a relaxing drink, a cup of coffee or a bite to eat and watch the world go by. Food is served from 11.30 am until 10pm and is complemented by a varied and eclectic selection of wines, beers, spirits, cocktails, coffees and loose leaf teas. East Twenty Six helps brings friends together, or even making new ones.

NOT SO FLAT NORFOLK
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 23 2015
Not So Flat Norfolk “Very flat, Norfolk”.
partaken of a chilly morning there, shaking hands hardly able to cope with writing notes on rain soaked paper. It may only be 338 feet high but, on a cold Winters day when the lazy wind is cutting straight across and through you, direct and unopposed from the Arctic, you could just as easily be standing on any equally unexposed summit in the Himalayas.
That over-used and cutting phrase from Amanda, one of the character’s in Noel Coward’s comedy Private Lives. He has a lot to answer for. Norfolk is not, of course, a county of rolling hills and dale, of sweeping undulating vista and jagged peaks. But neither is it a featureless and unrelenting plain wholly devoid of occasional and unexpected highs and heights. So Mr Coward, if you were implying that we in Norfolk don’t have any views to call our own, any hills, vistas and handsome outlooks, you really should have known better. The highest point in Norfolk is Beacon Hill which is located a little under a mile south of the village of West Runton on the North Norfolk coast. It’s summit is 338 feet (103 metres) above sea level. It is part of the Cromer Ridge, an area of old glacial moraines that will be, no doubt, familiar to many a student of geography and geology (self included) who has
You may, of course, prefer to take in your views from a sitting, rather than walking or even a standing position.' PAGE

Another lofted position can be found and walked at Muckleburgh Hill. Here you can take any one of a network of wooded footpaths which lead to the summit, one which affords some particularly fine views of the coast and surrounding area. Perfect for picnics-and a grand view of the Muckleburgh military collection on the fields below. You may, of course, prefer to take in your views from a sitting, rather than walking or even a standing position. If that is the case and you require further evidence to prove Coward wrong, then a trip on the North Norfolk Railway, the Poppy Line is for you. Take a steam train from Holt and head off towards Sheringham, taking particular note of the rolling view down past the golf course and down towards the sea as you reach your destination, one of the loveliest in the county. One especially evocative if witnessed from the carriage of an always animated steam train, no matter whether you be 9 or 99. It’s a ride that might have given ‘Amanda’ cause to reflect upon her ill chosen words. More views can be taken in from the top of some of the cliffs that stand out on our coast. Cliff top scenes and dramatic drops are not the exclusive e preserve of Cornwall and the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Our cliffs are, admittedly, modest in both length and height but that doesn’t stop them being any less eye catching. What about the famous multi coloured cliffs at Hunstanton for example, west facing and up to 60 feet (19 metres) high in places; they extend NNE from the promenade at Hunstanton to St Edmunds point, a short but striking view and walk beloved to

both photographers and eager fossil hunters of all ages. Cliff spotters can be rewarded again if they travel the coast eastwards along the A149 until they reach West Runton, another Mecca for fossil hunters, the cliffs here sloping more gently towards the beach but no less dangerous and, sadly, fragile and susceptible to erosion. So visit with care, with both yourself and your environment in mind. A well known view to many is the one that can be seen and admired as you crest the top of the road of the B1153 as it nears the end of its 22 mile journey southwards from Narborough. Heading out and away via Gayton and Docking, the road comes to a reluctant end in Brancaster, the scene as you approach the village a timeless one and a reminder of home as the travellers eye takes in the tower of St Mary’s Church; the fields that precede it and the salt marsh, creeks, beach and, finally, North Sea beyond. You may not be very much higher than 60 feet above sea level here, yet it feels so much higher and grander, a wonderful canvas of Norfolk that is as majestic a scene as you will find anywhere in England. Mousehold Heath, situated in north east Norwich offers some wonderful views of the City with the Cathedral as its timeless centre piece from Britannia Road. It’s an area of heathland and woodland which has been designated as a local nature reserve, one that is mostly covered by broad-leaf semi natural woodland with the areas of heath that surround it actively managed. St James’ Hill which lies adjacent to the old Britannia Barracks building is another great location for views across the City, as well as, in the winter, when snow abounds, a popular destination for sledges and other improvised winter sports.
So visit with care, with both yourself and your environment in mind.
Back in the 1970’s, many of the steep slopes in and around the heath were utlised by then Norwich City Manager Ron Saunders for the purposes of training his first team squad. Yet he didn’t merely order them to run up them, they were expected to either do so whilst carrying a teammate on their back or by ‘bunny hopping’ their way to the grassy summit which, after every hop, must have seemed further and further away. The Canaries of the day would have spent as much time at the top drinking in the air as they would have the views. A final destination on this tour of some of the loftier views of Norfolk returns us to the coast and the heath at Salthouse. It is also part of the Cromer Ridge of glacial moraines, and an important wildlife site where, in early Summer, you can be lucky enough to while away a warm evening to the soundtrack of nightingales and nightjars. It’s also historically significant as it contains a large cluster of Bronze Age burial mounds, a tomb with a view for the well heeled chieftains of the day. “Very flat, Norfolk”? Not at all. It is, and forever will be, a county of surprises. Majestic beaches and mighty skies are amongst its heights. But there are literal as well as metaphorical heights about Norfolk as well if you know where to look. Which, quite evidently, was not something Noel Coward’s Amanda had ever done. ________

ICENI - COLUMNISTS Issue 23 2015
I am often asked why I write thrillers and not comedy and the truth is that, while I like to make people laugh, the creepy stuff interests me more. We have all experienced scary moments and they are the ones we tend to remember. I know for certain I will never forget my Above: Keri Beevis most frightening experience. I was living with my parents at the time and home alone for the weekend. Well, home alone with the animals; our family dog, Cody, and the two cats. It was late at night and all was quiet in the house as I turned out my bedside light, aside from the occasional whimper from a slightly restless Cody. He slept downstairs, much to his annoyance, while the cats were upstairs with me. Two minutes later, I nearly fell out of bed as I heard the thumping clang of piano keys. My sister had an old fashioned upright piano in the lounge and it was playing. Not a tune; it sounded as if someone was bashing four or five of the keys… hard. I swear I nearly pooped myself. It had to be one of the cats. I had thought they were in the bedroom, but one of them must have gone downstairs and jumped onto the piano. After lying in the dark for what seemed like an eternity, because I was too afraid to move, to even breathe, I plucked up courage to switch on the bedside light. Both cats were curled up on the bed, though they were both looking towards the door. I knew I couldn’t sleep, but I also wasn’t sure if I could go downstairs. Legs shaking, I climbed out of bed, crept across the room and turned on the main light, then out on to the landing. Again the light went on - because light is safe, right? If the lights are on, the things in the dark can’t hurt you. That was my logic at the time, anyway. Eventually I manned up enough to go downstairs. I could hear Cody whining as I descended and then saw him sitting in the hall, tail thumping and unsettled. My heart was thumping so hard in my chest, it hurt. Behind Cody was the dark shadowy doorway that led into the lounge and the piano. Before entering the room, a thought occurred. What if the lid of the piano was down? I am a rational girl. Even though I kind of believe in the supernatural, I can’t help looking for logical explanations. If the lid was down it would be an impossible situation to explain and I decided I would need to leave the house and go stay with a friend. So into the lounge I crept, pushing the door wide open, as the light switch was conveniently on the far wall, and to get to it would mean passing the piano. The lid was up. No one was there. There was no ghostly figure sitting in front of the piano. The room was quiet and exactly as it should be. I snuck across on still shaking legs and closed the lid. After calming Cody I went back to bed, but I was on edge for the next hour, listening for the sound of the piano playing again; praying it wouldn’t now the lid was down, because that would be bad, really bad. It didn’t and I finally drifted off to sleep. PAGE

So what really happened that night? This had been our family home since I was a kid. We had moved into it as a new build, so the only history was our history, and aside from that incident, every night before - and after - I always felt safe there. I have been other places and felt a presence, but never in our family home. My explanation therefore is it was the dog, in the lounge, with his front paws. Yup, I am actually prepared to believe that our half Labrador, half Springer Spaniel had gotten up on his hind legs and started bashing out a tune on the piano. Doesn’t sound very rational, does it? But then I don’t want to believe the alternative.
The Diary of a Norfolk Family. By Mark King Above: Mark King Everyone will experience colds, bugs or flu during the year if you have a young family. No matter how hard you try to keep yourself from catching such things, and suffering the miserable effects they bring, you still end up with a sore nose, throat or muscles. You can teach your children to wash their hands, and to be as conscious as possible about germs, but you can’t count on other parents being so careful with their little ones. This means you are guaranteed children will come home from school soon after the holidays with the sniffles and then you know worse is on the way. I think teachers must have an immune system that is extra resilient because if they didn’t they would be constantly on the sick list. So far since the return to school after the Christmas holiday the family haven’t suffered too much, until now that is! The dear wife has been feeling very ruff with a stinker of a cold, and as I write this article my throat has the dry feeling that can sometimes foretell that worse is to come. By the time you read this article I may well be suffering too. With any bug you never know how bad it’s going to be. It can be just a few days of feeling under the weather, or it could be something that seems to takes weeks to get over. And you are normally powerless to do anything to improve your situation once you feel unwell other than to stock up on cough medication, and mediated hot drinks, and hope for the best. In the end if all we have to put up with is the odd cold and nothing more, I count it as a blessing because many people in the world have to go through a lot more dreadful things in their lives.

ICENI INTERVIEWS

Iceni Interviews Cheryl Baker (Formally of Bucks Fizz) What inspired you to tour again? We met with a promoter who convinced us that now was the right time to get back on the road. What do you enjoy most about touring? Touring can be tiring but also great fun. You visit places that you may not have seen for years, if ever, and it is great to meet the Fizz fans that have followed you for so long. How different is it nowadays compared with back in the 80’s? Nowadays touring is much more enjoyable, we are doing it because we want to not because we have a single/album to promote. Do you still do the ‘skirt ripping’ routine when on stage these days? I am afraid we do! How did Bobby McVay become the fourth member for the tour? Bobby was always around back in the early 80’s and so was a good friend of us all. When we looked into going back to four again back in 2007, we rang Bobby as he was our first choice, but he was literally days away from emigrating to Italy. Fortunately for us, he missed performing and rang Mike to see if there were any gigs going on at the same time as we were sorting out the tour. It was almost fate! Where did the name ‘Paradise Regained’ tour come from? The promoter that we originally discussed the tour with suggested the name and, although he is no longer involved with the tour, we thought it was a good name, so we stayed with it.
Is there a single or album release due in the near future? We have been in negotiations about a single/ album, so watch this space! Tell our readers what they can expect at one of your shows? Your readers can expect 80’s nostalgia, all the Fizz hits, plenty of costume changes, dance routines and, of course, some skirt ripping! Once the tour is over will you be going back to TV presenting? I love my job because one day I can be singing on stage with Fizz and the next I can be on a cruise ship doing after dinner speaking and the next presenting on television. I love the diversity of my job and wouldn’t have it any other way. Would you do a reality show? Television is all about reality isn’t it? So, I would be a fool to say no if I was involved on one, although I would draw the line at Celebrity Big Brother. I think it is a dreadful programme and brings out the worst in people. Is there anything you would like to add? I am really looking forward to performing in Lowestoft and seeing some friendly faces - I can’t wait!
Cheryl, Mike and Jay (formally of Bucks Fizz) with Bobby McVey, will be performing at the Lowestoft Marina Theatre on Sunday 12th April. PAGE

First Drive: All-new Suzuki Vitara By Tim Barnes-Clay, Motoring Journalist Twitter @carwriteups
t is hard to believe the Suzuki Vitara has been around since 1988. That makes me feel old because that’s the year I passed my driving test. More than 26 years have gone by; I’m not 17 anymore and the Vitara heritage has evolved. Now the sports utility vehicle (SUV) has compact dimensions to meet contemporary needs and incorporates Suzuki’s cutting-edge ALLGRIP four wheel drive system as an option. Of course, one major thing has changed since 1988 and that’s the automotive industry’s obsession with fuel efficiency and clean engines. The new Vitara certainly promises both, due to weight-saving measures and tech. A good example is the 1.6-litre DDiS model with two-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission. It has CO2 emissions of just 106g/km. But what about aesthetics? Well, the new car has a strong looking design. The clamshell bonnet gives the front end a look of solidity, and a trapezoid motif front bumper indicates a powerful grip on the ground. Pronounced body side character lines and bonnet side louvres form motifs reminiscent of the first generation Vitara. What’s more, Suzuki’s pursuit of good aerodynamics is reflected in optimally designed bumper openings. It also shows in the roof line that slopes smoothly downward towards the rear. Additionally, LED PAGE

headlamps contribute to energy saving while creating a cool impression. Step inside, and a boldly shaped instrument panel indicates SUV toughness while the round clock and round ventilation louvres help give the cabin a youthful, sporty look. owered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine as well as the aforementioned 1.6-litre oilburner, the Vitara offers a smooth on road drive combined with real off road capability. I drove the equivalent to the SZ5 1.6-litre DDiS ALLGRIP spec in Portugal this week. The diesel stands out with its powerful, torquey performance. 0-62mph arrives in 11.4 seconds and the top end is 112mph. A six-speed manual transmission is mated to the engine. The gearbox is noticeably smooth and moving up and down the cogs is effortless, thanks to a shift lever counterweight. For those who don’t like left-foot action, you won’t have long to wait - a six-speed automatic will be available in the summer. Of course, Suzuki is renowned for its four wheel drive technologies and the previously mentioned ALLGRIP system, which debuted on the S-CROSS, impresses. It has four modes, auto; sport; snow and lock, for safe, enjoyable motoring on diverse surfaces and has earned a deservedly great reputation.

esting the car over an improvised off-road mud, sand and general dirt course near Lisbon, I discovered the ALLGRIP tech sends more torque to the rear wheels if it detects wheel spin at the front. New ‘feed forward’ gadgetry provides additional ability to predict front wheel spin risks, accelerator pedal position, and steering angle. It then sends more torque to the rear wheels before wheel spin occurs. Overall, the all-new Suzuki Vitara is impressive - and far more refined than its predecessor. Some interior plastics still feel hollow and scratchy, but the important touch points are nicely padded. Officially, the car I drove will cost £19,799 and will do an average of 67.2mpg. It emits CO2 emissions of 111g/km. Not bad for a 4x4.
Priced from only £13,999 for the basic 1.6 SZ4 model, the Vitara represents good value for money. It goes on sale in the UK in April.

EAST ANGLIAN GAME & COUNTRY FAIR

East Anglian Game & Country Fair, April 25th & 26th 2015 The 2015 East Anglian Game & Country Fair will take place on Saturday the 25th & Sunday the 26th April, at The Norfolk Showground, Norwich. There will be lots of new displays including The Essex Dog Display Team which is generally accepted as the premier and longest established dog display team in Great Britain and Europe. The team appeared at Crufts for a record breaking eleven years and they were also invited to display at the Five Nations Rugby Tournament at Twickenham for the Calcutta Cup, England – Scotland match. They are the only civilian dog display team ever to be selected to appear at The Royal Tournament in front of Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Phillip and the Royal Family. Working with many different breeds of dogs (the majority of which have been rescued); the team produce a professional highly entertaining, action packed and informative display. The central feature of the display is a 100ft long by 8ft high ramp, which the dogs negotiate at high speed through hoops of fire. There are excellent equestrian displays and workshops at the East Anglian Game & Country Fair. UK Horseboarding Arena Demos “somewhere between scurry racing and wake boarding” describes Arena Boarding. Teams take on the clock around a course of gates, set to challenge the best boarders and horse riders, from long straights into sweeping bends and ninety degree turns. In terms of motorsport it is more like rallying or Formula 1. Teams have to work together to achieve the right racing line to take the bends and complete the course.
PAGE
26
New board technology has meant that board riders can get more grips in the corners, but as the track gets scrubbed out, you will still see them power sliding round the bends kicking up dust like a rally car. This part of the sport has become so technical that board set-up, and even tyre choice has become critical. The teams push their boards to the limit as they fight it out, trying to shave 100ths of a second off their times. As will always happen, when sportsmen push themselves and their equipment to the limit, sometimes they find the edge. Crashes are frequent, - with the teams’ motto seeming to be “we will not win by going slower.” An absolute must-see spectacle - you will not be able to take your eyes off it, as teams achieving already unbelievable speeds, get faster with each race. Richard Maxwell, our Horse behaviourist, was in the Household cavalry with “Monty Roberts” and he will be demonstrating twice daily in the round horse pen, where you will be able to see the special understanding and training techniques that Richard uses to help horses overcome some of their fears. This is a fantastic opportunity to see Richard using traditional and natural techniques on horses that have been brought to the game fair by their owners for Richard to work on and this will be the first time that Richard will have seen the horse he is going to be helping. N & J Heavy Horses is a family run business which has been running for around 10 years, performing horse drawn carriage work up and down the country, such as weddings, proms, fetes and carriage rides in the town of Southold. Their two Perchons aged 7, three Shires aged 9 to 11 and one Clydesdale aged 6 will be performing musical demonstrations which are fun for all ages with all different types of music; modern and oldies and is set to be enjoyed by all in both the Main and Countryside Arenas. Pine Lodge School of Classical Equitation (Sat) present an invitation to see working equitation ridden by the riders who have represented Great Britain in the

European and World Working Equitation Teams. These fine horses will demonstrate the grace needed to be at the top of their sport. The quest of lightness on their hooves, no involuntary movement, any direction easily and the art of doing nothing will all be demonstrated during their arena time. We have a fantastic line up of more free events to watch in the Main and Countryside Arenas. Ring displays also include 6 times FITASC Sporting World Champion, European Champion and English Open Champion John Bidwell performing his world famous off the hip trick shooting with an automatic and pump action shotgun shooting from the hip over his shoulders and from between his legs, this is a rare opportunity to see John’s display.
The Forestry Villages hosts The East of England Cutters & Climbers Competition and Pole Climbing Competitions. The forestry arena will be a buzz of activity with chainsaw carvings, felling demonstrations, tree climbing and pole climbing competitions. Tree workers from around the UK will be competing at this rare opportunity to see a working forestry village. If Bear Grills is your thing then Woodland Ways Bushcraft & Survival will be demonstrating their vast knowledge of bushcraft & survival techniques. There will be opportunities throughout the day to get ‘hands on’ and learn some skills for yourself. They will also be running ‘Pigeon Plucking’ competitions on their stand over the weekend. Find out how quickly you can prepare a pigeon for the table without using a knife.
West Norfolk Hunt will be taking the hounds for a parade of the ring, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Flight of the Falcons, Ferret Racing, Fly Fishing, Berkley Owls, Sheep Dog and Duck Display, Lurcher Displays, Gun Dog demonstrations and much more. The Mid-Norfolk Gundog Club has been providing its members with training and competitions for 30 years and this year the Club celebrates its 25th anniversary as a Kennel Club Registered Society. The Countryside Arena demonstrations illustrate the stages of training for spaniels and retrievers as they are prepared to become working gundogs. Trained gundogs have a vital role in any form of responsibly conducted game shooting. In the Main Ring, the roles and work of spaniels and retrievers are demonstrated in the context of the shooting field. Mid Norfolk Gun Dog Club will be running the Gun Dog Scurry competitions and a Team Gundog Working Test - a competition for trained gundogs that simulates the problems the dogs will encounter when working. The competition, introduced to the East Anglian Game and Country Fair last year, is an ‘Open’ standard competition for teams of three experienced dogs and handlers representing clubs and societies from across East Anglia and takes place over both days of the fair. Expect and enjoy first class work and a keen but friendly competition from some of the best gundogs and handlers in the region.
Norwich Vikings Trials Motorcycle Display will have a range of riders from those on modern bikes to those who prefer the classic bike and classes for all abilities. Riders will be taking their bikes around a purpose built obstacle course from old oil drums to large tree trunks. This will all take place within the forestry arena. Our game fair country kitchen has a great new line up with a variety of cookery workshops and demonstrations taking place over the weekend from a selection of local chefs, including Celebrity Chef Chris Coubrough, Roger Hickman, Andy Snowling, Eric Snaith and Na Hansell plus many more. The Cookery Theatre is housed in the centre of the busy food hall where you will find a wide variety of exhibitors from Norfolk and across the UK bringing unusual and mouth watering food and drink to the show for our visitors to sample, enjoy and purchase. Meet The Pixiwoo Sisters Article by April Clayton
Nic and Sam Chapman AKA The Pixiwoo sisters are UK’s top beauty bloggers and makeup artists from Norwich. If you haven’t heard of these incredible ladies where have you been, they are the biggest YouTube beauty bloggers in my book. In addition to their YouTube videos which show everyone the tricks of the trade, they run their own make-up course at their studio in Norwich, have their own make-up line of affordable brushes called Real Techniques as well as being freelance make-up artists. Busy Bee’s hey. The girls have just launched their next project; a Real Techniques premium brush line called The Bold Metals Collection, which can be found in Boots stores. For those thinking ‘oh no, I love the original line’, don't panic because this line isn't going anywhere. The bold metals are a premium addition therefore a little bit more expensive because of how much softer synthetic they are. They are slightly weighted to give you ultimate control when applying your make-up and are diamond shaped to stop them from rolling away when they are put down. Doesn’t it sound like they have thought of everything. They come in 7 different brush types and three colours. Gold - for the face. Silver - for the eyes and Rose Gold- for the finish. Nic and Sam love their collection but what is their favourite? "I love the 101 Triangle foundation brush as it allows you to use the different sides for different purposes, one side to apply foundation, the other for cream blush and the third side to buff " says Nic. PAGE
30
Whereas Sam’s favourite is the 301 Flat contour brush. "It gives the perfect firm contour with precision application" says Sam. The sisters started their YouTube journey in 2008 when Sam was asked by a friend over email on how to do a smokey eye. Instead of having to type it out, Sam filmed herself creating a smokey eye and uploaded the video to YouTube for her friend to watch. Lots of people started watching and encouraged her to make more videos showing how to do certain make up looks. Sam then asked her younger sister Nic to help her and join in. When I asked the sisters about their next big project they couldn’t say much. "We have an exciting project coming up in the next few months but I’m afraid we can’t talk about it at this stage". At least something exciting is just around the corner. "Our schedule is so last minute that its impossible to plan ahead too far, we often don’t know what we are doing until 2 weeks before". Everyone who loves Pixiwoo, always wants to know their favourite products. I asked the sisters if they were stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 products, what would they be.
Nic’s top 5 were Estee Lauder EE Cream, Eyeko Brow Gel, Bobbi Brown Bronzer, Laura Mercier Gel Liner and Clarins Tinted Lip Perfector. ➥

The sisters are such an inspiring pair because of how normal and down to earth they are. They show themselves on film make-up free and as real woman. "People take comfort from that because they see the imperfections disappear as you go through the video" said Sam.
Sam’s top 5 were Estee Lauder EE Cream, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow, Kiko Cream eyeshadow sticks, Hourglass Lipstick in Icon, and Extended Play Mascara. There’s no doubt some of these products will quickly go out of stock when others find this out. Pixiwoo have been make-up artists for over a decade now. But what inspired them to do this in the first place? "Our aunty called Maggie Hunt was our inspiration to get into the industry. She is a makeup artist who regularly worked with celebrities". Sam and Nic are so close and spend every day together so they are bound to bicker, aren't they? "Every single day. We spend every day together so it’s inevitable and also forgotten about within 10 minutes" they said. The sisters have experienced all types of celebrities whilst doing their make-up and they both agree that Take That were one of their favourites to make up. "Take That were all lovely. We have never experienced any celebrity diva’s luckily but have experienced some Bridezillas in our time" said Pixiwoo. The girls have made up so many people, it must be hard to remember them all and some must be harder to do than others. ‘Male make-up such as drag is the most challenging but also the most fun’ they said.
They show what you can do with make-up and they engage with the public in a way in which we all feel we know them. “It’s real people putting real make-up on. It’s not something you aspire to be, it’s something you can be,” says Nic, 33. The pair couldn’t think of a person in particular who they would like to work with, though they did tell us that there were a few people who they would like to give a make under too. Im sure we could think of a few people as well. When asked for their ultimate product, there was a few deliberations. In the end Nic went with the Clarins Tinted Lip Perfector while Sam went with the eyes and said Kiko Cream sticks. "Eyes are my favourite to do because you can quickly wash over a cream eye-shadow in black to create a smokey eye" said Sam. Though for Nic, it is all about the skin. "If you can get the skin right, then everything else just works" she said. The girls let us in on their secrets and top-tips to beautiful looking skin. “Well-moisturised skin is amazing. Everything sits better on it and you look younger,” says Nic, 33. “And when you feel that you’ve got enough make up on, stop. Don’t carry on because then it’s just too much.”

Norfolk Inventor Bids To Have The ‘Greenest Home’ In The County A Norfolk-based inventor has risen to the challenge of eco-friendly living by planning to revamp his entire house in a bid to make it completely self-sufficient and the greenest property in Norfolk. Alan Wright, inventor of the Shower Power Booster (SPB) and local businessman, is on a mission to dust off many of his earlier inventions and transform his Thorpe St Andrew home. He also aims to make a profit too by selling the electricity generated back to the National Grid. Alan Wright, comments: “People have this misconception that to have an eco-friendly home it needs to have lots of hi-tech, modern features. I am on a mission to banish this stereotype by adapting my home and showing Norfolk homeowners just how much money they can save by helping the environment.” Five years ago Alan invented his very own solar thermal system which provides his family home with 99% of its hot water between the months of April and October. It stores hot water in an energy store which saves three days of hot water for when there is no sunshine, and gives instant hot water at taps without running cold water to waste. Alan has recently purchased the brand new VW e-Golf which is propelled by an electric motor and fed by a battery pack. This is due to be delivered in June when he will also install a new energy store link to the car in the garage. “The batteries in electric vehicles are well aligned with the needs of energy suppliers. As electric vehicles proliferate, they could become more and more important to the power grid; both in terms of the amount of energy they draw, and the amount of energy they can store and potentially return to the grid,” continues Alan. Further developments are already in the pipeline to begin in May 2015 with Alan wanting to use his own roof to collect solar thermal water using reinstalled manufactured panels. The remaining area of the roof PAGE will be used for solar PV.

Alan Wright's Home In Thorpe St Andrew “In the future I hope to sell solar thermal panels and solar PV cells together with my pumps in Australia as a new hybrid product using features of my current system and virtues of the SPB pump,” says Alan. Alan also plans to upgrade his existing rainwater recycling system by using a borehole pump, which he invented in October 2014, for the toilets and garden. The new pump is 100 times smaller than traditional borehole pumps with the advantage of negative head functionality. “If just one in 50 homes has the facility to store electricity and return this to the grid then it will make such a significant difference in how we live sustainably,” concludes Alan. “There is lots of work to be done but the pump sells very well and allows me to continue developing new products which ultimately is what I love to do.”

ICENI INTERVIEWS Issue 23 2015
Iceni Interviews Aaron 'The Lion' Sharp ( Professional Wrestler ) How long have you been wrestling? I have been a professional wrestler for nearly 12 years this June. What inspired you to become a wrestler? I started watching my dad’s wrestling videos when I was 6 years old. I was immediately drawn into it! I would say that back then it would have been ‘Hulk Hogan’ and the ‘Ultimate Warrior’ that really made me want to do it. I was inspired by their characters, and enthusiasm and the sport itself. What sort of training regime do you have to adhere to? I'm a big believer in living a healthy lifestyle. I train 5 days a week, doing weights and cardio. I follow a very strict clean diet all year long, however after a week I allow myself one cheat meal where I eat whatever I fancy, mainly pizza - Ha Ha! When did you become professional? I first started doing shows professionally in front of big crowds around summer 2003. Do you have any bouts coming up soon? I wrestle week in week out, can sometimes be once a week to 8 shows a week depending on the time of year.
We understand you proposed to your girlfriend from the middle of the ring - what was the reaction from the crowd and your (now) fiancée? As for the reaction of the crowd I think the proposal got the biggest cheer of the night, the moment I dropped to my knees the whole crowd stood up, chanting yes yes yes. The atmosphere was amazing. My fiancée was shocked as she had no idea what so ever that this moment was coming. After her being in shock and tears, after about a minute she eventually said yes. Have you set a date for the wedding? Not as of yet, we both have a lot going on in our lives but hopefully in the near future. You are set to be on the big screen this year - tell as little about that? The movie is called 'apocalypse' it is about the world coming to its knees when a virus hits worldwide which causes the dead to come back to life. I play the lead zombie known as the brute. I don't want to give too much away, you will have to see it when it's released in the summer. What do you like to do in your spare time? I don't get a great amount of spare time, but when I do I always spend time with my family, and kids, making the most of the time we have together. We like to go for meals, watch movies, and go for walks, and plenty of video games (when my fiancee allows me) .

How To Build Your Brand With Your Tweet/Post Photo Content Everybody knows that an image is worth a thousand words and that's equally true on social media - but even knowing this are you taking full advantage of your photo content to promote your brand? Social media is all about increasing your brands visibility with your existing followers and attract potential followers and what better way to enhance this than with your own unique tweet/post imagery. "Why can't I just use stock imagery?" I hear you ask. Well, of course you can but remember that the people who create these images have shot them in such a way so that
they appeal to a broad range of clients - and this is the problem. There's nothing unique between your usage and a competitors. My suggestion instead, is to start building up a bank of your own images - images that are unique, in style and composition to you. Here's a few tips to help you promote your brand through your own unique imagery and increase it's visibility / recall on any social media platform. Some of these tips require pre-planning in a photo editing application to work at their best.
1. logo or brand icon
Consider adding a logo or recognisable icon to your tweet/ posts image. Determine the best size for your logo but make sure it's not overpowering the actual image and add this in a consistent place on your images. A good example of this is @Puma which reinforces it's brand with the use
SOCIAL MEDIA
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
of its strapline and logo in the bottom right corner - it's logo isn't overpowering it's imagery, but helps reinforce it. I also try to retain my branding in the form of my logo and my vibrant green in the top left corner of my photo content.
1. logo or brand icon 2. Consistent typefaces
Many bigger brands utilise their unique brand typefaces across all online and offline platforms to reinforce their brand identity. While most of us don't have the luxury of a custom typeface what we can do is ensure the typeface we use in our images is consistent. Use a strong legible headline font and consider using a smaller version for secondary text. Try to avoid small intricate fonts as these don't work well when used small and keep the variety of typeface styles and size to a minimum. If possible, use your offline typeface for added consistency.
3. Brand colours
Many companies have utilised their colours to great effect over the years to reinforce their brand. For instance IBM is associated with blue, BP with green and Cadbury with purple. All these companies have used their brand colours, to varying degrees, in their social media images. A prime example being Cadbury - which tries to integrate their purple into a majority of their images. Try taking 2 of your brand/business colours and utilise them in your photos this could be achieved in the way your photos are shot, props in the photos, photographic filters or solid colour blocks themselves.

Issue 23 2015
Everybody knows that an image is worth a thousand words and that's equally true on social media. 4. Photo style
You could decide to shoot all your images in a set style or from a set viewpoint you could even create a 'filter' style to use on all your photos - doing this, consistently aids brand recall. It's also worth considering creating 3 or 4 layout 'templates' in your photo editing application, that you can re-use. Templates make it easier for you to create new images quickly with your branding, text and colours all in place and they’re also great for brand recall as it doesn't take long for people to recognise the photo style/layout as being yours.
Summary
Your typefaces, colours and layouts are all design elements within your photographic content that can play a big impact in making your business's images stand out and potentially increase your brands recall among your followers on social media. Iceni Interviews Matthew Richards ( UK R&B Singer | Songwriter ) What inspired you to become a singer? My dad is a musician and singing teacher so I was bought up in a musical family. I have been inspired by my father’s career choice as he is one of my biggest inspirations and also by some of today's amazing talent such as; Marques Houston, Seal and The late Michael Jackson. How did you start out on the ‘musician’ path? It all started in school, I entered talent shows occasionally and some of my mates said I had a good voice, sometimes I wondered at times that they may be pulling my leg but I gave it a go ha-ha. After that I started working with my dad on techniques and ways to perfect my vocals. I had very close friends around the age of 18 and they helped pursue my career in music with studio time and videos etc. Do you write your own material? Yes I write all my own music. My inspiration for songs comes from relatable day to day activities or from what I have gone through, which I have found it hard to find the right words to express how I feel. What can we expect from you this year - Is there a single, Album or any gigs in the pipeline? I have an upcoming EP titled 'Matthew Experience' which is basically my autobiography but in music form, it contains a mixture of covers and original music which I feel hold a great importance over my life. People will also be able to relate to the lyrics in these chosen pieces of music . I am currently with a management company in London who work close with top A&R's in today's music industry. They are called Downtown Artists, in Soho, London.
Will there be a music video to accompany these? Music videos are underway because I feel visuals are really important in showing stories to go along with the lyrics. Are you a full time musician? Apart from music I am also a qualified Gym Instructor/Fitness advisor as keeping fit and healthy is also very important and it also helps with my singing. Breathing techniques and controlled stomach movement can help bring the range out in my singing. How do you use social Media to promote yourself and what do you see the benefits of this form of promoting? I always like engaging with my fans and friends. It's very important and I feel social media has taken over this world so it should be used to your advantage. I use Twitter and Facebook to engage with people and to network with other artists What do you do in your spare time? I love reading, making vine videos, football and generally just hanging out and sleeping of course ha-ha - you can never get enough sleep nowadays. Is there anything you would like to add? If you would like to get to know any of my material then please follow me on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/ YouTube and sound cloud! All my social media sites are @ItsMatthewR . Beartooth At The UEA Friday 6th February Review by Jessie Quick
Formed in 2012 by lead singer Caleb Shomo who previously was the vocalist for Attack! Attack! You are likely to have already formed some sort of opinion for the heavy metal music Beartooth produces. However, have a read of this review because Beartooth gave me an unforgettable experience at the UEA, and yes, unforgettable in a good way of course. Beartooth, a hardcore punk band from Ohio, Columbus opened the Kerrang Tour 2015 at the UEA on Friday the 6th of February. In fact they did more than just open the show, they set the scene fantastically for the tour and for what is to come. Upon arriving, the queues wrapped around the UEA with countless amounts of eager young adults, who waited for the doors to open to the start of the Kerrang Tour. The band have been labeled as a hardcore punk band, with the use of screaming the lyrics,
although when Shomo did sing, his voice was soft and easing compared to his ‘screamer voice’ (which did make me jump and spill my beer at first.) However I soon warmed up to it. When performing ‘Read between the lines’ from their album Disgusting it was almost as though the crowd were in a trance with the band. The fans in the first rows created a mosh pit with their bodies and really ‘rocking out’ (I kept my distance) but as you looked further back, people were gazing at the stage as though they were hypnotized by the music Beartooth created. Beartooth were only on stage from 7:00-7:30pm but they really made every second count. With lead singer bellowing ‘One life, one decision!! Make sure it ends with you still living!’ (Emphasis and punctuation added by me, as it’s hard to not cap lock every single lyric with an exclamation point.) It was incredible how they managed to create such a calming atmosphere with the least likely calming music. To finish, the punk band closed their performance with their first ever song Body Bag. The crowd roared along as Caleb Shomo shouted out ‘If you’re stood still, you need to move around!’ As said before by the lead singer, the bands motive is ‘to make fun, punk-rock, hardcore, wild music, play crazy shows and have a good time without any pressure from anything.’ There’s no question about it, their performance certainly enthused me, and it reinforces Shomo and his band’s seemingly bottomless well of creativity. Peace at Epic Studios Review by Jessie Quick
They are selling out all over the UK, they were on the front cover of NME magazine for their award of best music video, and The Guardian compared them to Vampire weekend. If you like Oasis, Bowie, or Artic Monkeys you will love Peace.
The Quirky band reflects this kind of hippy, yet rocker image. Lead singer Harry (who was wearing a fashionable poncho) shouted out ‘Lets go back to a time, where the jeans were tie dyed’ pushing this ‘hippy like’ atmosphere.
The English indie rock band that formed in Worcester, is made up of brothers Harry and Sam Koisser, Doug Castle and Dom Boyce. The boys performed at Epic Studios on the 12th and 13th of February and unsurprisingly sold out both nights.
Someday, and California Daze are slower songs which really exposed Harry’s incredibly graceful yet edgy voice. The crowd got out their lighters, and torches on their phones as they swayed waving them in the air to the easygoing music. Love Sick is a personal favourite and has been stuck in my head for days now!
Opening their performance with ‘Higher than the Sun’ from their album In Love released in 2013, it was the perfect song to start off the show and they immediately got me hooked. With an audience ranging from 16-40+ it only reflected how broadly respected Peace’s music is. Considering there were 3 guitarists on stage and a drummer, the atmosphere was to my surprise, very ‘peaceful.’ The gig felt more like a live lounge, which created a chilled feel and comforting ambiance, allowing us to feel connected to them.
If you go away singing and humming the songs the day after you know the band did good. In fact I cannot stop listening to their music and have downloaded both albums. Peace’s moment in the sport light is far from short-lived as it is reported the boys will be not only on the road in the UK but also touring over Europe and internationally, as well as festivals and I am just one of many who cannot wait to see where they go from here.

Having previously played on prestigious stages such as on top of Buckingham Palace for the Queens Diamond Jubilee concert and at 2012’s London Olympic Games Closing Ceremony, MADNESS’s live show is a perfect fit for the Newmarket Grandstands. Madness first stormed onto the UK music scene in 1979, becoming one of the most prominent bands of the UK ska revival scene with hits including ‘Baggy Trousers’, ‘It Must Be Love’, ‘Driving In My Car’, ‘Our House’ and the 1982 #1 ‘House of Fun’ Madness said: “Come see, come see! Daniel Jones DOOM, the exciting new sequel to FRENZY a Daniel Jones Story, is another fast-paced, engrossing chronicle of three rebels who once again risk their lives in a vividly depicted world peopled by memorable new and known characters.
Review “Set in the future, where humanity has reverted to a medieval way of life, protected ( or so they believe), by a mysterious group of beings known as the Over-seers.
A world where after 40 years of toil and complying with the Over-seers ‘Seven Procedures’ (rules) humans would willingly go to the Achievement Centre where they are promised a lifetime of rewards. Unfortunately the Over-seers are in fact a race of aliens and Daniel has discovered the hideous truth of what really happens at the Achievement Centre.

A fast paced and original story which is somewhat of a mixture between ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘Logans Run’. Despite not having read the first book in this series, the storyline was very easy to pick up after only a few pages. A book that I would thoroughly recommend. I shall certainly now search out the first book (Frenzy) and await with anticipation the third book in the series that the storyline certainly demands.”
