It’s been a scorching few weeks with temperatures hitting record highs for the year so far. The heat seemed to accompany the 21st June, when the GoGo Dragons hit the streets of Norwich on Father’s day and have stayed warm ever since. We teamed up with the effulgent Jon Clifton and took a Father’s day tour round the opening day of the GoGo Dragons trail, managing to get some amazing candid dragon shots in between dodging the many people who had turned out to see them for the first time. Norwich was a buzz of activity that day and it was clear just how magical the Dragons were. The trail will be active from now until 5th September, with 84 Dragons to be found and over 100 smaller baby dragons, you will have a jam packed day around our fine city on the trail hunting for Dragons. Other events coming up over the summer include the Norwich Bids; Head Out, Not Home events, which are free and run every Thursday from now to 27th August from 5pm-8pm. Just download the Discover Norwich App to find out more of what is on and where. As a last note for those of you who like a good old giggle, we recommend reading our columnist Keri Beevis’ latest offering. Award winning Keri is the writer of Dead Letter Day and Dead Write but we think she should turn her hand to comedy writing and dare anyone not to be amused by Keri’s lighthearted wit, even if it is slightly poking fun out of herself.

Thought Of The Month
By Alex Wiseman
Time I'm only 23, but I have to say time goes extremely fast! I was looking for something the other day when I found my college certificates, and I then realised that it was 5 years ago since I had left and worse still 7 years since school. When I was younger people used to tell me time goes quicker as you get older. I used to laugh, but now I understand what they meant. Another example is holidays we all count down for what seems forever and then before you know its been and gone.

CUTTING IT CLOSE Swagger & Jacks "Step by Step" Daily Shaving Guide As Gentlemen we often learn to shave from watching our Fathers, but no two beards grow in the same way and good shaving technique is specific to your individual whisker growth. Following our "Step by Step" Shaving Guide will enable you to achieve the ultimate smooth and comfortable shave every time.
STEP 1 In preparation for shaving, gently wash the beard area with a flannel soaked in hot water. This lifts the bristles and gently exfoliates the skin.
STEP 2 If you enjoy shaving with a shave oil, dispense 1-2 pumps of Swagger & Jacks Ultimate or Classic Shave Oil (£14.95 each) into the palm of your hand and smooth over your whiskers. If your skin is very sensitive, the Swagger & Jacks Shaving Oils can be applied underneath your shaving cream to provide extra protection and lubrication as a pre-shave oil to eliminate razor burn and irritation.
For gentlemen who prefer the luxury of a traditional, rich and creamy shaving lather prepared with a brush and mixing bowl. The Swagger & Jacks Classic Shaving Cream (£14.95) produces a protective barrier over the skin, preventing razor burn, nicks and ingrown hairs. Mixed using a Swagger & Jacks Badger bristle brush (£40.00) and applied in circular motions to lift the bristles and lightly exfoliate the skin. If you prefer shaving with a non-lathering shaving cream, apply a small quantity of Swagger & Jacks Ultimate Shave Cream (£14.95) to the skin with your fingertips, no need to lather with a shaving brush. This luxurious shaving emulsion is ready to achieve the ultimate smooth and comfortable shave every time.
STEP 3 Using a new razor blade, shave in the direction of your beards natural growth pattern, using slow, gentle strokes to avoid grazing or nicking the skin. Use your other hand to gently pull and stretch the skin, so that you create a flat surface for your razor blade to glide over easily.

BIKERS RIDE OUT! Issue 27 2015
The base Bikers Ride Out! It’s time to don your leathers, rev your engines and join The base Bikers Ride Out! Norwich based charity The base are inviting Bikers from all over to come along and support them on Sunday 6th September. A group of intrepid Suffolk Bikers are setting out from Needham Lakes at 11am and will be burning their way up to The base, arriving at Midday - so why not get together with your friends and ride out to meet them there from wherever you are based. It's a great chance to meet old friends, make new ones and chat about love, life and bikes (or are they all the same thing!?). Once you get to The base they’ll ply you with Tea and Coffee for free… although they wouldn’t mind if you wanted to make a donation, and there’ll also be a BBQ (though that's not being thrown in for free!). If you could just warn them (Search Facebook for: The base Bikers Ride Out!) or email damon@thebasenorwich.org) that would be great as they want to make sure they have enough Burgers. What is The base?
The base is a Charity that supports young people in the Norwich area aged between 11 and 19, empowering them to reach their full potential. They run a number of groups where young people take part in positive activities while addressing the issues they face, both physical and emotional. All of the groups are structured to help increase their wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem as well as raising aspirations and helping develop valuable life and social skills. On top of the groups they also offer 1-2-1 counselling sessions and other projects addressing issues such as Anti-Social Behaviour and Anger Management. Full details on all their work can be found on: thebasenorwich.org Where will the money raised be used?
They're currently fundraising so that they can start a 'Young Carers' group. Young Carers do an amazing job looking after family members, many
of them doing all the cooking, cleaning, washing and shopping for them day in, day out. This can be a tiring and emotionally draining thing for young people to have to do. There are also knock on effects as many struggle to balance their needs with those they care for meaning it can impact on their studies, their friendships and their ability to do activities/hobbies. To put it simply - they can miss out on just being young. The base want to give them a space where they can go and have a meal cooked for them, where they can relax, have fun, do homework and chat to other young people in the same situation as well as having the opportunity to receive independent advice on careers and personal wellbeing. A Job Provides Much More Than An Income
By Susan Leigh
Many people look forward to winning the lottery or retirement as being a time when they will give up work and do all the things that they have wanted to over the years. And yet it is not uncommon for people to defer retirement or choose to return to work even when they don't need to. They may choose a job that Susan Leigh has less responsibility, is perhaps part-time or unpaid, but many people enjoy the involvement and challenge of having an occupation.
Let's look at how a job provides much more than an income: Provides definition to our lives. When first asked about ourselves many people will reply by talking about their job. It often provides us with a ready identity, proof of who we are. We can look at our job description or the things that we do in a day and see the evidence of our skills and competency. We achieve measurable results when we have specific tasks to perform in our work role. Pride in what we do is a key element in this. Provides motivation to get things done. There is a saying that if you want something doing you should ask a busy person. People who are on tight timetables will often do something asked of them straight away. They need to, in order to avoid forgetting about it and also so that they can tick it off their list. If we have all the time in the world we would probably not get around to doing some of those additional things. A mañana mentality often applies. Provides urgency to our free time. People who are working often commit to making the most of their free time, enjoying their evenings, doing something special at the weekends, booking holidays, rather than just letting everyday be the same as the last one. They ensure that they spend time with family and friends, undertake activities, accept invitations, plan ahead. Provides relationships and friendships. The human side to a job is important to many people. The camaraderie and intricacies of relationships are a key part of the work environment, often more important than the money. Becoming involved in other peoples day-to-day lives, chatting, advising, sharing things makes for a better quality of life. Fun, laughter and the social connection play an important part.
Provides challenges and opportunities to develop, learn and stretch ourselves. Satisfaction in work is about feeling that we have extended ourselves and done well. Relationships can play a part in this as sharing, teaching and supporting each other are all relevant. Provides a purpose. Many people enjoy being busy to a certain extent. Being busy provides the requirement to achieve, a reason to get up each day and often deadlines to work within. There is often a certain amount of pressure to dress smartly, be knowledgable and interact with others as a professional person. Some stress is good stress as it provides goals and definition to our time. As increasingly people find themselves being made redundant, out of work, perhaps unable to find something to occupy themselves usefully, it can entail a difficult period of adjustment. Susan Leigh is a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist who works with clients to maintain their self-esteem, positive outlook and confidence in order to better re-evaluate their goals and options for the future. Susan Leigh is a Counsellor and Hypnotherapist who works with stressed individuals to promote confidence and self belief, with couples experiencing relationship difficulties to improve communications and understanding and with business clients to support the health and motivation levels of individuals and teams. SOCIAL MEDIA

Issue 27 2015
How Social Media Can Help Raise Your Search Engine Rankings Promoting your business on social media can be a great way of driving traffic to your website and likewise, your website can be a great way of increasing your customer/follower base through links to your social media - but does it have any search engine optimisation (SEO) benefits? The simple answer is - Yes! Social media can help improve your search engine results page (SERP) rankings. When you link your social platforms back to your website pages or blog posts, these, when explored by your audience, create what are called organic inbound links to your website. These links can help to validate your websites content, show that you have interesting, unique, shareable content and the upside to this is you could be seen as an authority of your chosen service/ topic. Your social platforms, whatever you decide to go with - Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn or Instagram, and the inbound links they can create back to your website, can create more visibility for your website, your business and ultimately improve your search engine rankings. Having a 'mobile friendly' website also helps now - as from last April, any site that’s 'mobile friendly' is ranked higher than those that are not, on mobile search results. You might say 'social media isn't for us! Our client base doesn't use social media'. This is a very short term viewpoint. Social media may have been taken up initially by a younger demographic and while your current demographic may be a lot older, remember that every demographic age group grows up - so utilising these platforms and engaging with these younger demographic groups is critical to give your business the opportunity to grow and expand its customer base. In an ageing population capturing and engaging with a younger demographic is the key to brand longevity.
results? This varies depending on your clients and service but my suggestion is to initially try Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. You might say 'Google+ really?' But it's for a good reason. That social platform is run by Google themselves and it's suggested that in search results Google places more importance on the social platform over others. That's not to say other platforms are worse - in fact Twitter often ranks highly as well in search results. Twitter, Google+ and other platforms to some extent can all help raise your search engine results page (SERP) ranking if you include keywords in your social profiles and articles by using them as #hashtags. All social platforms allow you to integrate these in a variety of ways but the result is essentially the same - the opportunity for better SERP positioning. Utilising keywords across your social media and your website is just part of the process. It's also vital to create unique, shareable image or blog post content that people want to read or share with others. Don't forget that each social platform can be utilised as its own search engine as well, giving your followers search results for content surrounding specific #hashtags - again creating or sharing content around trending topics can increase your following, traffic to your website and general brand awareness. In essence social media is a great way to help boost your SEO though the use of keywords (normally in the form of #hashtags) and inbound links to your unique and shareable website content. Social media is about engaging with your existing followers and in the process you can gain new ones that’ll explore and share your content and in turn help to raise your SERP profile. If you're not utilising at least one relevant social platform you're missing out potentially getting your business seen by the right people.
So what are the best social platforms to use to get your business ranked better or more frequently in search Twitter: @icenimagazine

New Book Reflects On The Life Of A Renowned Norfolk Dairy Farmer One of Norfolk’s best-known dairy farmers has recorded his life story in a new autobiography. Across almost 200 pages, beautifully-illustrated with photographs spanning nine decades, Gavin Paterson reflects on a fascinating life as his family established one of the finest pedigree cattle herds in the country. Entitled Breeding Success: My life as a Norfolk Farmer, the book is also an historical document, telling the story of how Scottish families came down to East Anglia in the 1920s and 1930s and transformed dairy farming in the region. Written in collaboration with award-winning journalist and author Mark Nicholls, it documents how the Paterson family went on to enjoy enormous success at cattle shows - including the Royal Norfolk Show with their pedigree Friesian (and later Holstein) cattle, over more than 60 years. That began in 1952 when Gavin Paterson, now 85, visited the London Dairy Show at Olympia, remarking to his father James Paterson on his return, “we have cows in that shed…that are just as good as those which performed well at the Dairy Show.” With head herdsman George Clare, Mr Paterson prepared a cow named Smallburgh Brenda for the 1953 event and much to everyone’s surprise, she was named Supreme Champion. From then on, the Paterson herds enjoyed nearunrivalled success at such events, with Mr Paterson becoming a well-known figure in dairy farming circles at local, regional and national level, including serving as President of the Holstein Society. In addition to the milk production side of the Paterson farming operation, the book examines arable farming over their four farms on the Worstead estate in PAGE

East Norfolk - which the family now owns - from the horse era through to the labour-saving mechanisation of today. However, Breeding Success also details other important elements of Mr Paterson’s life; his role with Young Farmers’ Clubs in Norfolk; work as a local councillor; and the role he played in establishing Worsted Festival and seeing it become one of the most popular summer events of the Norfolk calendar. Originally intended to fund repairs to Worstead Church tower, since the mid-1960s it has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and also donated funds to other Worstead community projects - including the building of a new Worstead Village Hall opened by the Queen Mother in 1985 - and neighbouring worthy causes. Mr Paterson was also a director of Norwich City Football Club from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s and as a life vice-president, is still a regular at home matches. Breeding Success records the evolution of an important aspect of farming in Norfolk through the eyes of one of its most influential figures, telling the story from a personal perspective from the early years of the 20th century up to the present day. Breeding Success: My Life as a Norfolk Farmer is available in hardback or paperback from bookshops across East Anglia and will also be on sale at the Worstead Festival at the end of July. It is available online from www.poppyland. co.uk and from Mr Paterson at Church Farm, Smallburgh, Norfolk, tel. 01692 536226.

The Diary of a Norfolk Family.
I was talking with a colleague at work recently who suffers similar problems to me, in that when Mother Nature was creating us and came to the chest bit, she said, ‘Say when,’ and we both forgot. To any ladies wishing they Above: Keri Beevis had bigger breasts, here are a few reasons why you really shouldn’t. 1/ Clothes shopping is a nightmare when your breasts are about six sizes bigger than the rest of you, particularly when it comes to dresses, and I sometimes have to buy something several sizes too large and then have it adjusted by a dressmaker. 2/ There is no buying pretty dainty bras for us. Holding our boobs in place requires a military operation and support strong enough to house a beer tent. I have often toyed with hiring my bras out to festivals. Lola has actually been known to curl up in one of my bra cups and go to sleep - and that cat is still carrying a little bit of holiday weight from Christmas. 3/ Come summertime, keeping the cleavage area nice and fresh is a bit of a challenge and just a little bit of physical activity can often require a visit to the bathroom for a quick mop up job under the boobs. 4/ If you sleep on your back, the damn things fall to the sides trapping your arms. 5/ Shaving can be an issue as when your boobs are huge they get in the way. There you are leaning over and trying to hold them to one side so you can see what you’re doing, when suddenly one breaks free and bops you on the nose. 6/ Maybe this one should be in favour of boobs, as having big ones means you don’t ever have to make an effort with your face, as men seldom look at it. 7/ Exercise is difficult due to the high probability of bashing yourself or other people. If I try to jog I am as dangerous as a loaded gun. 8/ Ladies with little boobs: think how painful they get at a certain time of the month. Now triple it. 9/ I once had a spray tan and forgot to lift up my boobs. The result was a white belly. 10/ The best feeling in the world is taking off your military bra at the end of the day. Unfortunately, this does result in the boob drop, which feels a little like when you belly goes on the first dip of a rollercoaster. Braless movement also has to be slow, as your boobs may be around your ankles, but they are still capable of jumping up and smashing you in the face at any possible Twitter: @icenimagazine
By Mark King The football season is about to start and once again Norwich City are back in the Premiership after just one season out of the top flight. It seems such a short period of time since that May Bank holiday Monday when all the family left our home at 6.30 in the morning to catch the coaches that would to take us all to Wembley. On the journey down we were as excited as everyone else of the 40,000 Norwich Fans that headed to London that day to watch the team play in the Championship Play-off Final. Above: Mark King
The Journey down went without a hitch and when Wembley came into view it was a momentous moment, but that was only the start. By 3pm three generations of the family were sitting together in the magnificent stadium, and when the referee blew his whistle to start the game we all had butterflies. It was the children’s first visit to Wembley and thirty years since I last saw Norwich play there in the Milk Cup Final. Half the stadium was a sea of yellow and green and everyone joined in with the singing. When the first goal went in there was a second of disbelief before we all jumped for joy, and when Norwich’s second goal hit the back of the net you just knew it was going to be our day. With ten minutes left the song, “we are going up” echoed around the stadium, and when the final whistle was blown the whole family were on their feet celebrating. Getting out of Wembley car park was terribly slow, and you would think that after ninety plus years they would have figured out how to sort this problem out; but it didn’t matter because every Norwich Fan were enjoying the moment, and this is one moment our family will never forget. www.always-hanging-around.blogspot.com Follow on twitter: @author-king time. If you lean over, run down the stairs or generally pick up pace, there is also a chance they will smack loudly together, creating a breast clap, and scaring the hell out of you. Little boobed ladies, please embrace your boobs. You don’t know how lucky you are. PAGE

INSPIRED YOUTH Issue 27 2015
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
5 Years Of Inspiring, And Growing! Norfolk based Inspired Youth is celebrating 5 years this month, an amazing achievement showing that social enterprises have a future in Norfolk.
Inspired Youth was started by local businessman Rob Whitwood back in 2010. Rob explains how Inspired Youth came about. "After many years of working in senior finance roles in Norfolk I decided to go self employed. Shortly after this I want to give something back to the community, and so I set about trying to find an opportunity to talk to young people
about careers in maths, because I love maths and I wanted to share that passion. Soon after I started my business an opportunity came up to work with a small group of students in Gorleston, and rather than give a boring talk on working in Finance, I set the students a business problem to solve working in teams, which competed for a prize. At the end of the session I explained that the challenge they had just completed was what I did for a job every day. Little did I know that on that day I started an amazing journey that would see me grow a social enterprise delivering events across Norfolk and Suffolk." Since this time Inspired Youth has grown 50% year on year, and during 2015 has nearly doubled in size. What does Rob put this down to? "I think it is a couple of things. We put a heavy focus on stakeholder
INSPIRED YOUTH

engagement, and when we run events in schools, we make sure the young people, the employers and the teachers come away feeling like they have had an amazing experience. We have also worked really hard on sustainability. We make sure that we have multiple income streams to support our work, either through sponsorship, schools or contracting with local authorities. We are passionate about doing an amazing job, and still being here tomorrow." As the end of the academic year approaches, Inspired Youth has worked with nearly 10,000 students since it started in 2010, and involved hundreds of local businesses. Its portfolio of activities includes running enterprise challenges in schools, supporting schools with careers events, hosting major careers events across the region, and working with training providers and employers to create opportunities for local young people.

REVOLUTION DE CUBA

Issue 27 2015
Revolution De Cuba’s Launch Of Their New Menu Of All Things Cuban Review By Jessie Quick The prohibition-erainfluenced cocktail bar with exposed brickwork, banquettes plus Latinostyle dishes, is the place to eat, drink and dance this summer. With the launch of their new menu, a selection of cocktails and live music in the evenings, Cuba’s is a rum bar and cantina conveying culture and class.
I was seated towards the back of the restaurant, looking out onto the garden, which flooded with sunshine.
I was taken on a culinary journey of Cuba to taste the new menu, try the cocktails and get a general feel of the Cuban inspired restaurant that sits on Queen Street, Norwich.
As a tapas lover, I am always enthusiastic when it comes to trying the variety of dishes a Spanish cuisine offers. Revolution De Cuba’s menu is packed with delicious dishes you can’t resist. The Roasted chorizo chunks, glazed in red wine and honey sauce are bursting with character and the Mojito battered onion rings, are crunchy on the outside, exploding with flavour with every bite. Nachos del sol, were served on the previous menu with dips, are now topped with the ingredients, making it a mountain of delight. The chips are covered in homemade roquito and manchego cheese sauce, and laced with black beans, fresh guacamole and mango. Serrano ham makes the perfect snack, as it sits on a bed of bruschetta, whilst the whole chicken with 4 sides makes a tasty meal to share with your amigo.
The new menu launched this June, is a refreshing selection of Caribbean food. Deputy manager Andreas added ‘we like to change our menu twice a year, especially for the summer. Our selection of tapas is light and perfect to share whilst relaxing in our outside area with friends and family.’ Greeted with a classic Mojito to accompany a few Cuban snacks,
The dishes are a mix of contradictions with an intensity and vibrancy that comes from fresh, daring ingredients. The new menu offers a selection of freshly made tapas, large plates, burritos and hamburgers. Nibbles while you wait, or ‘Pinchos’ are also available. The sweet banana, spicy mixed nuts and salty pork crackling compliment each other dreamingly, and taste even better washed down with a cranberry and ginger mojito.
Andreas further showed the menu is suitable for vegetarians. The honey roasted veg, mushroom bean and spinach burrito, and the Patatas Bravas (fried potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce) are just a few of the vegetarian options at Revolution de Cuba’s.

The staff at Cuba’s present a warm friendly feel. The Burrito challenge with chef Bradley gave an insight into how the restaurant achieves the best burrito. On the menu, the meal is called Cuba Libre Pulled Pork and really is a must! The pork is cooked for eight hours overnight causing it to fall apart in your mouth. The burrito holds a selection of Cuban flavours inside

the soft flour tortilla, from mozzarella cheese, to house rice with a spicy kick; the burrito is a burst of bliss. Andreas further displayed his cocktail making skills, as we were encouraged to make some of the drinks Cuba’s offers. The cocktail menu presents a wide mixture of revitalizing daiquiris, rum favourites, margaritas and even mocktails if you fancy something softer. All tropical influenced drinks are presented beautifully in tiki cups, glass jars and even teapots, adding more fun to your Cuban experience. The cocktails are heaven in glass and even better when accompanied by a dessert, in particular the churros. `The Spanish doughnut sticks are dusted in sugar and served with chocolate and rum dipping sauces. I would not recommend sharing these!
REVOLUTION DE CUBA Issue 27 2015
If you fancy something different, the mini dessert assortment embraces the Cuban culture. The tapas style selection consists of warm strawberry and mango empanadas, chocolate rum truffles, churros with caramel sauce and mini strawberry daiquiris. Typing up my experience at Revolution De Cuba’s is proving difficult as I am craving the food more than ever. The warming atmosphere, Caribbean interior and of course the irresistible food all contribute to the feel of the unique restaurant. There really is nowhere else quite like it and we are fortunate to have such a cool, quirky place in Norwich. So if you fancy a light lunch, or a get together with friends, it really is the place to go this summer and there is no doubt I will see you there. Long live the Cuban spirit.

NORFOLK'S COLD WAR
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 27 2015
NORFOLK’S COLD WAR
Talk of a new Cold War between East and West as a result of Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s perceived expansionist policies into nations that once formed part of the old Soviet Union is one that is currently attracting much debate and speculation between political commentators and news outlets alike. Whether or not the world finds itself in such a potentially perilous state again is not something that is easily predictable. If such a situation was to come about however, what part would Norfolk play as tensions increased between NATO and a modern day equivalent to the old Warsaw Pact and would it be as important as that which Nelson’s county took on for over four decades following the cessation of hostilities in World War Two? One site in Norfolk that was strategically important at the time for reasons which its perhaps best not to think about too much was the high security (you would hope) storage facility for nuclear weapons that was set aside at RAF Barnham, just 2 miles to the south of Thetford. Nuclear weapons were held at the station throughout the fifties and sixties, a fact that, if it was relatively unknown at the time, would certainly have become one more apparent to local residents if the UK had ever been close to nuclear war, so busy would the station have been with large vehicles arriving, probably in the early hours of the morning, to start shifting part of its deadly arsenal to wherever it might have been needed. One of the stations major purposes was, along with its sister site at RAF Faldingworth, to serve the soon to be formed Vulcan V-Bomber Squadrons and their lethal payloads. These once familiar delta-winged aircraft PAGE

were unique in that they were able to head far enough east to be able to drop its bombs onto enemy territory in what would almost certainly been a one way trip for its crew, simply because there would more than likely have been no RAF bases left for them to return to upon the completion of their duties. Prior to its use as a nuclear depository, RAF Barnham had another deadly use as it had been previously used during the Second World War as a chemical weapon storage facility and filling station as well as being used as a bomb dump for ‘conventional’ ordinance. During the years of the Cold War, RAF Barnham would certainly have been a site known to enemy intelligence and, if it had not been prioritised as a target for a first strike would almost certainly have been targeted in any second wave of enemy nuclear missiles, the consequence of that meaning that much of East Anglia as we know it would have been permanently removed from the map. And it wasn’t as if RAF Barnham would have been the only possible enemy target of Warsaw Pact forces. RAF North Pickenham, based close to the village of the same name which is about three miles from the market town of Swaffham opened in 1944, shortly

before the end of the Second World War. It’s objective was therefore not only to play a major role in those hostilities, which is did as a busy base for USAF Eighth Air Force heavy bombers, but to also play its part in any future Third World War which it did towards the end of 1958. It had been abandoned by the USAAF a little over a decade earlier but was then re-opened as the home for the RAF’s newly reformed No.220 (SM) Squadron; the base being equipped with three Thor ballistic missiles, each of which carried a 1.4 megaton warhead, an defensive initiative that formed part of the UK-US strategic deterrent known as Project Emily. These missiles were actually put into a state of readiness to launch during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, the closest that the world has ever come (and we can only hope that remains the case for all eternity) to nuclear war to date. How do you think the residents of that part of Norfolk would have felt or reacted had they noticed the heightened activity around the base, the increased security, roadblocks and numbers of military personnel that would have preceded the sight and sound of those three Thor missiles launching and heading towards the former USSR? Their launch would soon have been recorded by enemy forces whose retaliation would have been swift and deadly. How would you have spent the last few minutes of your life on a chilly October afternoon in what was, now for a very short time indeed, one of the quieter and more unspoilt parts of rural Norfolk? The stark reality of the time was that Norfolk and Suffolk had little choice with regard to the sacrificial roles both the respective counties and their population would have been left to make at that time and throughout the Cold War. East Anglia was on the front line through nothing more than its geographical position and the number of sites that had already been established there for exactly the same reasons they had during the Second World War. The region subsequently contained nuclear weapon stores like the one at RAF Barnham as well as missile launch sites, military airbases, radar and intelligence stations and nuclear research facilities. Another important base was the former RAF Sculthorpe near Fakenham which was extensively refurbished for the USAF after the Second World War during the Berlin Crisis in 1949. Three years later it became the home base for the USAF’s 47th Bombardment Wing and the 49th Air Division. The rapid increase Twitter: @icenimagazine
Issue 27 2015
in the Soviet Union’s conventional forces in eastern Europe had meant that US-led NATO felt it had no choice but to do the same with their own forces and overall presence in western Europe (similar to what is happening today as a result of the increasing tensions over Russian influence in Georgia and Ukraine) as a consequence. NATO did this by introducing the US bomber aircraft the B-45 Tornado to Sculthorpe, planes that were capable of carrying and dropping up to five nuclear bombs each. In addition to this, the Pentagon decided it would also redeploy the 47th Bomb Wing to Sculthorpe from their previous base in Virginia, the first redeployment of US military personnel anywhere since the Second World War. The stakes and risks were enormous, the chance of conflict one that grew, day by day and hour by hour. Yet few who travelled the narrow and lonely roads around the base at Sculthorpe would ever have guessed not only how close they were to coming to oblivion but also just how close they were to a significant part of the war machinery that would have contributed to it. Because, even if you lived and worked in the region throughout the entire Cold War, RAF’s Barnham and North Pickenham and the USAF bases at Sculthorpe and the surrounding areas would have become so much a part of your day to day life and scenery you might well have almost forgotten that they were there, despite these facilities and their strategically vital personnel being all around you. However, had the very worse happened and the three minute warning been sounded, many of those who, day by day, might have been in the shop or pub with you would have long faded into the background, already preparing for multiple launches and the inevitable retaliatory strikes, safe(ish) in secure underground facilities. Whilst you, I, and everyone else would have been expected to make do with a door propped up against an interior wall and held in place by sandbags. It might well have been known as the Cold War. Yet had it ever reached the conclusion that nobody wanted, Norfolk would, very swiftly and irrevocably, become one of the hottest and bleakest spots on the entire planet, a county that was, and remains as far as potential global conflict is concerned, anything but the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately for all of us. _________________ Edward Couzens-Lake

MOOSEY ART
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 27 2015
Near Future At Moosey Art ‘Near Future’, an exhibition showcasing the new works by Will Barras and Steff Plaetz, was hosted by Moosey Art, a small start-up gallery. he new gallery displays the work of up and coming local artists, down the Norwich alleys living the bohemian Golden Triangle dream, really. An expressive use of spray paint was seen in mere moments of stepping into Moosey Art, as a neon backdrop to lanky candid figures in hooded jackets - some concentrating on chunky 90s style mobile phones, others stood droopily with their backs turned. The creators of these Hewlett-style characters met at college in Bristol, and started collaborating at the age of 19. Working in call centres after college to make ends meet, they started with doodles and moved on to canvas work, and began making their name by creating artwork for flyers. Their media of choice are pray paint & acrylic, which they have been using for around 20 years - back when Will recalls “you felt you were only allowed to use spray paint for traditional graffiti.” They have cited Jamie Hewlett, and American graffiti artist Futura 2000 as being among their influences. Drama is added to these modest, otherwise uninterested-looking figures through comic-book style forced perspective and splatters of neon spray paint, which sometimes escaped the canvas, adding a playful
Anyone who’s been in the Pottergate underpass in Norwich will know that graffiti is no longer limited to just tags and bold cartoons, but can be used to create more complex masterpieces. This more blended use of spray paint is used in some of their larger canvasses, whereas in others it’s used as more of a suggestion sweeping strokes are used in coloured prints, creating momentum around the solitary subjects. Other artworks in the exhibition used a more fluid, inky style of neon paint, with elegant female black-line figure drawings. These more delicate paintings used sweeping strokes to blur where one torso ends and the other begins. Clothing often went from trailing black shadows and colour to elegant geometric shapes, creating an origami effect. The Japanese illustration influence is at its most patent in these paintings, with both artists taking influence from the Anime Sci-Fi thriller, Akira. For those who enjoy alternative comic art, Barras and Plaetz’ artwork will have a familiar illustration style, but with a unique take on figure drawing and use of colour that makes their work more worthy the larger scale gallery wall than a comic page. For everyone else - their work is well worth discovering, as it’s unlike anything you’ll see locally in Norwich. Their works have the misleading appearance of mere illustrations; from deliberate neon yellow blotches to polished prints, their artworks leave you lingering long enough to spot the subtlest of subject details. You Me At Six At The UEA - 11Th June Review by Jessie Quick
Where do I begin, perhaps by describing the ambiance surrounding the UEA on the 11th June? I was fully aware the night would be busy, after all You me at Six completely sold out for there first show in Norwich in 5 years. However, I really was far from prepared for the queues that covered the University grounds. The UEA was bursting with over excited fans that waited patiently to be let through the doors to an incredible night. English rock band that formed in 2004, have become a massive hit with best performing single yet, Lived a Lie from album Cavalier Youth. For a genre that has been largely ignored in the recent years, with a number one album in 2014 and a clothing line, I would say they were doing pretty good! Twin wild and Glass City Vice were the support acts for the Official Isle of Wight Festival warm-up show at Norwich UEA. You me at Six tweeted before performing on stage; ‘Thanks to @NandosUK for feeding us before tonight's show at Norwich UEA!’ So I guess that explains why they had so much energy.
Surrey band YMAS, are former teen pop-punkers turned seriously bearded rockers, ooze individuality as they performed songs from their album Cavalier Youth. Released on 27 January 2014 through virgin records, it’s the fourth full-length album from the alternative rock band. Similar sounding to Blink 182 and Sum 41, they performed Forgive and Forget, Wild Ones, Too young to feel this old and many more from the album. The boys may be the new upcoming rock band, but it is inspiring to see they really are normal. They dress casual, and they sing to us as though we were in a bar having a beer together. It’s exciting when a band performs in front of a full arena and yet makes you feel like they are singing directly to you as an individual.
The boys later tweeted ‘Norwich you were amazing, great show tonight! Next stop Isle Of Wight, the last show of the album cycle!’ It was further mentioned that this would be the last tour until 2016, which makes me question a possible fifth album, lets hope they come back to Norwich!

VW Passat SE Business 1.6 TDI 120PS (7 Speed DSG) By Tim Barnes-Clay, Motoring Journalist – tweeting @carwriteups. few years ago if you had asked a director to give up their large company car and accept a smaller, more fuel-efficient alternative, you may have been looking for a new job soon afterwards. Now things are different, and greener cars are now a perfectly acceptable executive option.
The eighth generation VW Passat is a good example of what constitutes a frugal yet upmarket managerial motor. In fact, it bridges the gap between the upper medium and premium class. The ever-popular German mile-muncher takes on not only a refreshing appearance, but also adopts the latest technologies and efficiency measures to make it one of the most advanced and economical of cars in its sector. All Passats offer a high level of standard features with highlights including Post-Collision Braking System and mis-fuelling prevention; Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Crash system, Driver

Smooth, solid and classy are words that come to mind for the Passat in 1.6-litre TDI SE Business guise. The cabin is nicely appointed, with lots of rubber and soft touch materials but very little in the way of cheap plastics. The VW feels well-built, and the seats are comfortable. And, as you would expect from a Passat, leg and headroom are very good, while the boot is gigantic.
Behind the wheel, the Passat feels punchy enough, but it is quite a heavy car, so don’t expect rocketship acceleration. The 2.0-litre engine will be a much better match for the body if being first off the lights matters to you.
Volkswagen offers a choice of two transmissions with this Passat. There is a six-speed manual or there’s the seven-speed DSG twin clutch box - as

Nevertheless, for £25,715 on the road, the 1.6 diesel, mated to the DSG gearbox, is great value for anyone wanting a sophisticated, fuel saving, commuting machine that doubles up as a roomy family car. Let’s face it; an official average consumption of 70.6mpg isn’t going to cripple you financially.
Indeed, now I’ve experienced the Passat, I can certainly understand why it beat the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, Citroën C4 Cactus, Ford Mondeo, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Nissan Qashqai and Renault Twingo for the coveted European Car of the Year 2015 title.

Counterpart Driving Licence Has Been Abolished.
Here’s how it affects hiring a car abroad: The Counterpart driving licence (which is regularly required to hire a car abroad) is no longer valid. As part of a red tape cutting excersie which saw tax discs being abolished in October last year, the move is intended to cut unnecessary costs and make driver records more accessible. However, due to the poor communication of this significant change, many motorists may now find themselves being turned away from vehicle hire abroad unless they understand the changes and prepare in advance. Previously a person’s paper counterpart licence would be used as evidence of endorsements such as penalty points. Employers and hire car companies could check the counterpart to ascertain the level of risk associated with the driver. The paper counterpart no longer has any legal status. Companies who wish to assess a particular driving record will need to check via the DVLA’S new online “share driving licence service”. The licence holder will have to log onto the DVLA’s “view driving licence service” to obtain a single use access code. This will need to be volunteered to the relevant third party who will input the code and the last 8 digits of the relevant driving licence number into a new DVLA “Share Driving Licence service”. The third party will then be able to view all of the relevant information which used to be held on the old style paper counterpart, including endorsements, licence status and details of vehicle driving entitlement. Alternatively, the company can contact the DVLA’s premium rate telephone number to access the driving record with the driver’s consent. PAGE

However, those intending to hire a car abroad should be prepared: The single use access code is only valid for 72 hours. Although 5 codes can be generated within 24 hours, each code can only be used on 1 occasion. Those wishing to avoid expensive roaming charges or having to waste precious holiday time seeking out the nearest internet cafe should be careful to generate their code immediately before take-off to ensure their code remains valid long enough for them to check in and stretch their legs after a particularly long flight. It would also be prudent to contact to the car hire company (if known) in advance to check what documents they require. Some may be unaware of the changes and still request the old counterpart. Others may accept a PDF version of the driving record. However, as with all technological advances that are intended to make our lives easier, there are a number of foreseeable issues could now arise: System failures and planned maintenance could result in holiday makers being turned away for car hire when companies fail to gain access to the DVLA site. Or if they’re clued up enough to dial the DVLA’s premium rate phone line as an alternative, motorists could be expected to foot the bill of the expensive call from abroad where several minutes may be spent in line waiting to get through to an operator. Our top tips for hiring a car abroad this summer: • Contact the company in advance to ask what evidence they require in light of the changes • Take the counterpart with you (it’s always best to be prepared for the possibility of staff on the ground being unaware of the changes) • Familiarise yourself with the local driving laws of your intended destination (for example, drink driving laws can vary hugely between Countries) • Follow our 4 easy steps for sharing a driving record online: Step one: Log onto the DVLA’s “View Driving Licence” service at www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. Step two: Generate your unique code via the “share your driving licence section” Step three: Make a note of the code and print the PDF summary of the record Step four: If the car hire company won’t accept the PDF, give them the code. They will then put the code and the last 8 digits of your driver number into the DVLA’s “share driving licence” service to gain an instant summary of your licence. Here at Nova Silver we’re well known for our collections of amber and we’re often asked for more information about what it is and how it’s made. Amber is made from fossilised tree resin from ancient forests. It can be found around the world, but most of our amber is from the Baltic region.
Any piece of amber began life as a sticky resin created by a tree for protection over a damaged section. Over time the tree fell and began to decay, with the sap buried under layers of vegetation. Millions of years pass with the resin continuing to harden from pressure and heat until our piece of amber is discovered.
That’s the reason you can sometimes find amber with ‘inclusions’, pieces of pre-historic plants or even creatures that have been trapped and preserved for millennia. We’re lucky enough here at Nova to have a collection of pieces that feature some of these insects; and they’re quite the talking point!
With its warm glowing colour amber has been used in jewellery since humankind were able to use the tools to craft it into jewellery. One of the most famous examples of the craftsmanship that amber attracts is the Amber Room of St Petersburg. Originally constructed in the 18th Century, the room was looted by the Nazis during WW2 and has never been recovered. More happily, it has recently been rebuilt, taking hours of labour and was re-opened in 2003. We find that amber really appeals across the generations, and the pieces we love the most often use this ancient material in a modern setting. One of our best-selling pieces has been our amber dragonfly- a pretty little pendant that uses different colours of amber to create a simple and stylish piece of jewellery.
We’re always happy to chat about our amber collection; so why not pop in next time you’re passing and take a look?

BEACH BRIDAL SHOOT Issue 27 2015
Norfolk Beach Bridal Shoot Location: Mundesley Beach, North Norfolk
Lucy Scarfe: "This summer, I organised a beach bridal collaboration shoot to inspire brides-to-be and to also bring brand awareness to some of our finest local wedding suppliers. The make-up was flawlessly applied by Melissa Abel to accompany a beautiful, boho hairstyle created by Gemma Holiday. Kathryn Potter from 'Love Couture' kindly lent us a range of her dresses from classical to eclectic in design which were fabulously styled by fashion stylist Abi Gray. To set the scene, we were lucky to have Penny Baldry from 'The Little Lending Company' on board who provided an array of vintage props. Beautiful flowers in coastal colours were arranged by Samantha Powell from 'The Little Flower Shop' completing the look perfectly. This all wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for the talented photographic skills of Jessica Elisze Photography and her ability to capture magical moments."

Lucy Scarfe (Model): "I was born and raised in the picturesque county of Norfolk. As most of my modelling work is in London now, I don't have access to beautiful beaches anymore. For this reason, I decided to gather some of Norfolk's finest wedding suppliers and head back to the coast to create this 'Beach Bride' inspired photo shoot!" Penny Baldry (Props): “I created a relaxed, romantic beach setting on the sand. With a blue worn persian rug as a base this would be the perfect spot for a luxe picnic. With wicker display baskets, lanterns and old vintage books you could easily loose an afternoon here. Our shepherd’s hooks and hanging jars were filled beautifully and you could imagine these lining a walkway to a ceremony or even the aisle itself for a cool, coastal celebration. Simple glass cylinder candles we're dotted though the set to finish the look.” Gemma Holiday (Hair): Gemma is an award winning hairstylist, who recently won the Regional Winner for the Best Bridal Hairstylist in the 2015 Wedding Industry Awards. Gemma Holiday Hair Artistry also covers hairstyling for events, editorial, fashion, all types of media. “To create this soft Grecian hairstyle, a Mermaid corset braid was created through the top and back section. This flowed into loose tousled curls. For the second look a combination of whimsical Dutch, fishtail and rope braids were added around the mermaid corset braid. Random loose sections were tousled and left out to add a boho feel to the style.” PAGE

Jessica Elisze (Photographer): Norwich based lifestyle wedding, portrait and event photographer Jessica Elisze has come a long way from taking pictures of friends and family in 2012. She has scooped several awards for her portraits through the Guild of Professional Photographers competition, which is an amazing achievement. Jessica has also had images published in various magazines and publications locally and nationally. Having only moved to Norwich in 2013, Jessica has set out to become a huge success in a male dominated industry and has received some rave reviews following in her success. Jess has this to say about the beach shoot, “To have worked with an all-female team on this shoot was such a rewarding experience. It shows the talent that the industry has right now. Especially in Norfolk which for many is classed as back water and rural. We have industry leaders and suppliers who are quite often bang on trend. One of my ideas is to bring brand awareness to the more cosmopolitan type brides in Norfolk and East Anglia and to show that you don’t have to go to London to get a stylish supplier or photographer. Support your local suppliers!” Melissa Abel (Make-up): “I love to create beautiful, soft, dreamy bridal makeup. I am always so touched when women put their trust in me to design the most important makeup look of their lives. Giving the gift of breath-taking beauty to a woman on her wedding day is an absolute joy to me and it’s what gets me out of bed at 5am every week.” Products and technique: “I created Lucy’s beautiful flawless skin with ‘Laura Mercia Secret Camouflage’, & ‘MAC Studio Fix Foundation’ in colour ‘NW15’. For the smokey-eyes, I used a mixture of MAC eye shadows in ‘Amber lights’, ‘Handwritten’, and ‘Carbon’.The Lips were my own mix of various colours in my pallet." Tips: "When creating a smokey-eye, my fail safe technique is to apply primer to the skin and then move onto the eye makeup before I work on the skin. This ensures that the foundation is not disturbed when cleaning up any eye shadow drop down. Using a water proof base on the eyes before shadow helps the shadow to stay on for longer without creasing, I love MAC paint pots." PAGE

Abi Gray (Fashion Styling): Having studied fine arts at college, Abi found herself drawn to styling in 2012 when her passion for creating her own unique looks blending vintage, high street and charity shop gems – collided with an increasing number of requests for fashion advice from friends. In the past few years Abi has worked with some of East Anglia’s most adventurous fashion photographers, most creative hair and makeup professionals and most gorgeous models. Having a particular love of wedding styling, shoots Abi has styled or directed have featured in Norfolk Brides, The Norwich Resident (Abi styled the cover of the prestigious launch issue), Norfolk on my Mind, Festival Brides,Whimsical Wonderland Weddings, Cosmopolitan.com and the internationally renowned Dark Beauty Magazine. “For this shoot I wanted to show a range of different looks so once the dresses had been chosen, I set about styling each one in a different way. For the backless halter neck gown I kept it simple with accessories, using just flowers and a ring, to let the dress do the talking. I paired a lilac ring with lilac wedges belonging to the dress’ designer and oversized blooms to add a pop of colour. We decided to have Lucy’s hair up to show off the beautiful low back and added a few flowers to match the bouquet. This elegant silk dress is perfect for brides wanting something a little sexier for their big day. For the full skirted two-piece I went for a more bohemian, playful look using a gorgeous floral crown and anklet created by Samantha of 'The Little Flower Shop'. To accentuate the gold tones in the dress I added a pair of bronze earrings from my own personal collection. The hair swept to the side adding to the relaxed feel of this look. For the beautiful Grecian style dress with lace capped sleeves and diamante detailing I added diamante stud earrings, a diamante bracelet and ring. I had brought along a large piece of tulle which we used as a statement veil, which with Lucy’s hair left down in beautiful loose curls looked stunning. This dress is a more traditional choice but still has plenty of ‘wow factor’!” PAGE

Horning Water Carnival To Support School And Macmillan Article by Jessie Quick When determined people come together, it is incredible what you can achieve. Horning school and Macmillan cancer support have joined forces for the Horning Water Carnival event on Saturday 25th July. This unique event is hoping to raise money and awareness to build a new school hall for the local children at Horning school and Macmillan Cancer Support. The idea behind a water carnival is to dress up your boat and get involved on the river Bure whilst family; friends and all members of the public are welcomed to join in on the day’s fun! The event itself will be at the Ferry Inn, Horning, where there will be live music, a rodeo bull, charity auction, raffle prizes, a giant bouncy castle, DJ, face painting and a large outdoor play area.
You don’t have to own a boat to support this inspiring fundraising event, there is no doubt it will be a day to remember. The money raised will go to supporting the build of a new hall for local children at Horning school. Money raised will also be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and help to support many people living with the effects of cancer. Before attending Horning school to speak to some of the fantastic women and children who are the reason for the event, I automatically assumed there would be a hall. The school that sits in the antiquated village is an absolutely beautiful building holding the majority of the children from Horning. However, once it became apparent there was no hall, I began to question where the children assembled. Halls are the main gathering point for schools; in fact they are a multi functional space that can be transformed from a football pitch to a dining room. Four children from the school came and spoke to me, to give me a real insight to the problem. I was enamoured by the children and their very expressive and informative thoughts, after all, they will tell you exactly how they feel. It was very special and educational to listen to the children’s version of how they believe a hall would benefit them and also as to just how special they believed Horning Primary School to be. They voiced their love for the school itself as well as their appreciation for the staff. I was informed that a hall would not only benefit the teaching and learning of the school, but also the children’s every day life. At current, a small classroom is used, as the hall as they expressed that during lunchtime, there really is no room to eat or sit. With English weather being so unpredictable, there is little hope they will able to play outside.

We love our school, we love that it’s small, but we really really, really would LOVE A HALL. Pupils from Horning Primary School Mrs Pierson, Head teacher of Horning School revealed ‘from the age of 4-18 years old, you are in education; this is only 15% of your life. It really highlights just how vital it is to receive the best education possible during this time. Without a school hall, we really are detracting learning time from the children.’ The children further added, after lunch they need to clear the classroom ready for the lesson, and a school hall would allow more time for learning. Horning school decided to work with Macmillan cancer support after a member of staff was connected to the charitable organisation. Fundraising Manager Shaun Campbell said “It is amazing to be involved in such a unique event and to have the support from The Friends of Horning School is great!” he went on to say “Not only are the local community coming together to better the lives of their children, but they are also donating half of the money raised to enable Macmillan to support more people living with cancer.” Shaun Campbell, who is in consistent contact with the school, oozes determination, passion and desire for the upcoming event. With statistics showing one in three of us will get cancer and two million of us are living with it, it opens your eyes to the realities, but also the possibilities. If you’re living with cancer, the good days really matter and Macmillan is there to help you have more good days.
loved school and the lives of those who are affected by cancer. The event is a win win, not only is it a fantastic day out for the family but the end result really will change lives. I look forward to the 25th July and hope to see a river full of boats and the village filled with families. Frances Herbert, a local mother has written a poem in order to inspire people to get involved in the new school hall build appeal. We love our school, our School is ace, it’s such a loving learning place. Our teacher’s rock, they really care, their knowledge ready for all to share. We love our school, it’s only small, 63 children that is all. But we all are friends, we know all our names, together we play such happy games. We Love our school, if we could wish for the best school ever Horning School, we would change - never. Except for a Hall, for us to fill each day, assembly, lunch times, P.E, wet play. We love our school, but some days our class is all we see, for learning, playing, to eat our (lunch) tea! Restricted by the weather, on rainy days we cannot run, and PE outside in winter isn’t always fun. We love our school, we love that it’s small, but we really really, really would LOVE A HALL.
I have always admired people who desire change and improvement, big or small. Horning School and Macmillan Cancer support have put in all their energy to this upcoming event in hope to improve the Twitter: @icenimagazine

BUCKS FIZZ
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Issue 27 2015
BRINGING BACK THE BUCKS More than thirty years after they stormed charts across the globe with a string of hits, Cheryl, Mike and Jay are once again set to tour the world with a 70-date World Tour to remind everyone that there is more to Cheryl, Mike & Jay formerly of Bucks Fizz than Making Your Mind Up!
She explains that Bobby and Fizz go back a long way. He was one third of 1983's UK entry to Eurovision, Sweet Dreams. In fact he was invited to join them a few years ago, but he was unable to commit to joining them at that time. "I feel he will be a real asset to the band" she adds.
The band's original line-up was classic Eurovison, two boys, two girls - a formula established by ABBA, to whom Bucks Fizz were inevitably compared. Having performed together since 2009 when "girl next door" Cheryl Baker and "cheeky pin-up boy" Mike Nolan reunited with "The Raunchy One" Jay Aston, the trio are being joined for their "Paradise Regained Tour" by a fourth vocalist - coincidentally called Bobby. The fourth member of 1981's Eurovision winning line-up was Bobby G.
Bandmate Jay agrees, "As a four piece, the songs will be heard as they were intended to be heard, with four voices rather than three and the dance routines will have the full effect again".
Cheryl says "Having performed several gigs with our friend Stephen Fox, Mike, Jay and I realised that people expect to see four on stage when they see Fizz, so we are delighted to introduce Bobby McVay as our guest singer for the tour". PAGE

She adds, "We are really looking forward to being on the road again. Performing in a theatre gives us the chance to produce a show we can be proud of, and we truly hope our audiences enjoy hearing the hits once more, together with a few of our lesser known album tracks. With an album of new studio material and single releases in the pipeline, the future is looking extremely bright for Cheryl, Mike & Jay formerly of Bucks Fizz. The prospects are bubbling over as

Cheryl excitedly declares "New representation, new tour, new singer, new merchandise, maybe a new album...... A new beginning! Whoop whoop! Like a good champagne, their performances have matured, and they still manage to hold all the fun, vitality and passion for performance of the record breaking tours of the 1980's. Recent appearances at the nostalgia festivals, Here and Now, Rewind and forthcoming Let's Rock have reminded the Great British public of the power of the Fizz, as every person in the crowd finds themselves singing along and dancing to hits they thought they had forgotten, and with a rapidly growing following on social media they decided it was time to tour again. Originally put together as the perfect winning act, Bucks Fizz went far beyond their original Eurovision remit and as one of the biggest selling bands of the 80's, became a global phenomenon. Making Your Mind Up became a number One hit across the world selling more than four million copies...
Issue 27 2015
The legendary skirtripping routine propelled them to overnight success, charting at No.1 in many countries beyond the UK with countries like Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia falling to Bucks Fizz's charms. "Paradise Regained" will be their most comprehensive tour since the 80's, with more than 70 dates in the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond... including Australia, where in spite of not being part of Eurovision territory, Bucks Fizz had a massive following. It will be the first time the band have performed there since 1986.

ICENI - HOROSCOPES Issue 27 2015
www.icenimagazine.co.uk
Horoscopes For July Aries 21 March - 20 April
Libra 24 September - 23 October
You are likely to be busy on the home front, perhaps with de-cluttering, DIY or hosting guests. The New Moon in Cancer on July 15th also brings an opportunity to understand your own needs more, especially through insightful conversations. The last ten days sees your pleasure zone lit up, and you can dazzle people with your charismatic approach.
Friends can seem very supportive, with your social life upbeat and lively over the weeks ahead. Despite this, goals that are more meaningful can also take on greater importance. The New Moon mid-month can help to showcase your talents, but someone could still surprise you by being unreasonable. The last third of July might see you in the mood to join a group with mutually respected hopes.
Taurus 21 April - 21 May
Scorpio 24 October - 22 November
Communication, always so important, really comes to the fore in the weeks ahead, with a chance to make real progress by connecting with the right people. However, avoid complex negotiations at the mid-month mark as someone’s feisty mood can scupper even the best-laid of plans. When Venus rewinds from July 25th, you can think again about someone in a romantic context.
Though busy, you’re probably going to be keen to expand your horizons, travel or perhaps to embrace higher education. Knowledge, and especially new information, can propel you into a totally different sphere, one that might represent a completely fresh new start in life. Mind, from July 22nd and 24th, your thinking can become more goal orientated. Whatever ambitions are important to you are sure to come more sharply into focus, Scorpio.
Gemini 22 May - 21 June
Sagittarius 23 November - 21 December
Money matters gain in importance, with the option to make some canny decisions that may well improve your situation. And, while the New Moon on July 15th can be perfect for fresh starts, delay new initiatives for a few days if you need time to forge an agreement. The last phase of July can see ideas flow with some promising opportunities on the astral cards.
Thoughts can run deep with Saturn reversing backwards into Scorpio once more and with the element of water in focus. Talking things over with a gentle and caring individual may well help. Even so, shared finances can be another topic that needs addressing, perhaps even with some urgency. However, as July winds down your love of travel can bite, urging you to explore or expand your mind.
Cancer 22 June - 23 July
Capricorn 22 December - 20 January
Well, you can certainly be in your element this month. This can see you keen to get ahead with personal plans and share your talents with the wider world. However, it will pay not to rock the boat too much mid-month, when Mercury clashes with the impatient Uranus. Later in the month your focus can switch to your resources, but do fend off any impulsive urges.
The Full Moon on July 1st can bring feelings to the surface regarding a key relationship. Furthermore, the mid-month New Moon can be equally volatile, making a sensitive approach to others essential to keep things on an even keel. Fortunately, your finances can be blessed with a small windfall or someone’s act of generosity, as the month comes to a close.
Leo 24 July - 23 August
Aquarius 21 January - 19 February
With the Sun journeying through Cancer early in the month, consider your priorities and let go of situations that seem to be naturally winding down. Doing so will leave room for new opportunities. Once the Sun blazes into your sign on July 22nd, along with Mercury on the 24th, you’ll notice an increase in your vitality and a chance to dazzle people, one that can really enhance your progress.
Relationships, whether business or romance orientated, continue to look positive for the entire month. You can also be hot on the trail of a new job or lifestyle opportunities that could make a truly positive difference. From July 22nd and 24th, your talent for co-operating with very different types of people can flourish as might the potential for romantic options to sizzle!
Virgo 24 August - 23 September You’re likely to be motivated to network and expand your circle of friends, which could prove very rewarding as you welcome new people into the fold. Even so, mid month someone else could prove rather jealous or irrational. From week three the focus does however shift, encouraging you to find respite, relax and recharge. If you feel like a makeover, why not go for it? PAGE
50
Pisces 20 February - 20 March This can be a month to revel in pleasure options and creative pastimes, as a big focus on your fun sector urges you to go and enjoy yourself. Despite this, a degree of patience may be needed mid-month when a very restless set of influences can spring all sorts of challenges. However, job and lifestyle improvements are possible in the last ten days of July, if you can show the necessary self-discipline.
