The Benjamin Foundation News £1,950 raised at Stody Lodge Open Gardens On Sunday 14th May, an enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers put on their Benjamin Foundation aprons and served tea and cakes to several hundred visitors amongst the stunning rhododendrons and azaleas in the grounds of Stody Lodge near Holt. All afternoon there was glorious sunshine and blue skies which meant that the visitors kept coming and our tea and cake stall was busy meaning we raised just under £2,000 from the afternoon.

Many local businesses, staff at The Benjamin Foundation and supporters donated a fantastic variety of delicious homemade cakes for us to serve from brownies and cupcakes to sponges and scones. There was a savoury treat too thanks to Archers Butchers and local chef Charlie Hodson who kindly donated their award-winning Nelson Sausage Rolls. It’s very kind of the MacNicol family at Stody Lodge for opening their private gardens in May which gives many charities a great fundraising opportunity. The Benjamin Foundation would like to say a very big ‘Thank You!’ to all the businesses, staff and volunteers who supported this event including Jill Watkinson (pictured above).

The Butterfly Walk The Benjamin Foundation will be hosting their annual summer fundraising event, The Butterfly Walk, at Sandringham Country Park on Sunday 25th June.

This event is suitable for all the family and comprises a walk of around 3 miles long with a fun quiz to complete along the route. In addition, there will be a farmers’ market on site, a face painter and there’s a children’s play area too. Joining us and running their own stalls will be the event’s main sponsors Clapham & Collinge plus Buy Local Norfolk. The cost to take part in the Walk

is £5 per person payable on the day. It’s free for under 12s and you can come along and start your walk any time between 10am and 3pm.

Sandringham House, Gardens and Museum are close to the start and finish point of the Walk. They’re open on 25th June from 11am-4:30p and participants in The Butterfly Walk will be entitled to discounted entry.

Meet our new Job Coach Sharon Coggins (pictured right) has recently joined The Benjamin Foundation as a Job Coach. She will be working with many of the young adults living in the charity’s accommodation across Norfolk and Suffolk. This role has been made possible due to funding received by The H&M Foundation and the national End Youth Homelessness project of which The Benjamin Foundation are members.

Sharon’s role will be to work with the young people who are not in education, employment or training to help them into one of these avenues and build them towards an independent future. Nominate Endangered East of England Buildings 2017 The Victorian Society is asking residents in Norfolk to nominate threatened Victorian buildings for the 2017 Top 10 Endangered Buildings List.

Do you know a Victorian or Edwardian building you feel is under threat? Is there something you wish you could do to help secure its future? Every year The Victorian Society compiles a list of the Top 10 Endangered buildings in England and Wales, shortlisted by our architecture and conservation experts. Appearing in the Top 10 Endangered Buildings List will give your nominated building heightened publicity and could help save it.

Christopher Costelloe, Director of the Victorian Society, says: “Getting an endangered building in the Top Ten is an invaluable way to bring it to the attention of the people who matter, the people who can ensure its protection. Buildings in previous Top 10 Lists have been bought, sold, restored, protected and repurposed, all because of the people who nominated and campaigned for them. If there’s a 19th century building you’re concerned about in your area then please let us know and together we can help ensure its future.”

There has been good news for several buildings in the East of England that have previously appeared on the Society’s annual Top Ten List. There has been movement with Ipswich’s Tolly Cobbold Brewery since it featured in our 2015 list: the council gave the go ahead for a complex redevelopment of the site into an exhibition and business centre last year, with a full planning application expected soon. And 2015 brought wonderful news for Wansford Station in Peterborough: the Jacobean-style Victorian station had featured on our 2011 list as

Norfolk Broads Yacht Club Whilst the weather may have been changeable this spring, the club's activities have been well supported both on and off the water. Dinghies, keel boats, cruisers, motor boats and the odd paddle board or two have been arriving since early April ready for the season ahead.

This event, hosted by the NBYC, has participating teams from schools and sailing clubs from East Anglia and has grown each year since its inception. This year, the Royal Hospital School swept the board to win the event.

Club racing and the Spring Regatta have been well supported and we have also welcomed visiting sailors to our class weekends. As the nights draw out, Wednesday evening sailing, followed by a fish and chip supper, continues to be popular with its more relaxed atmosphere encouraging novices to test their skills. Our Friday 'Club Nights' start in early June with family friendly suppers and a range of activities including 'come and try' paddle boarding, power boats skills, a murder mystery evening and a beer festival

Members and their guests have also enjoyed wide and varied social events such as dinners, suppers and bistro evenings. Younger members participated in a nature trail around the broad with tips on photography to catch the perfect shot and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust gave a very interesting talk to members during the evening. We were delighted to showcase our club to the public during our open day on the 14th May and also the Wherry Weekend over the Whitsun bank holiday. Support Fairhaven Garden Path Project With A Pound A Plank The gardening team at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden at South Walsham, has embarked on a 120-metre path renewal project in the West Garden, and is asking visitors to donate a Pound a Plank to support the project and ensure that it can be completed by the end of July. So far £5,000 has been raised through Gift Aid donations added to the garden entry charge, collection boxes and a second-hand book stall, towards the £12,000 scheme on the main bridge path. The scheme will improve access by adding two passing bays for mobility scooters and visitors in wheelchairs. The passing bays will also include benches so visitors can rest and enjoy the sights and sounds of the garden, including the candelabra primulas in May and yellow flag iris, marsh marigold and massed wild flowers from June onwards. Some 800 planks will eventually cover the length of the main bridge path, with its six bridges. The planks are being set on top of telegraph poles to raise the level and protect the path from winter floods. The candelabra primula beds, running

beside the path, are also being raised to give the plants similar protection and support the annual regeneration and growth of new plants from seed. The project has been designed by Fairhaven Gardener, John Debbage and is being implemented by John and garden apprentice Michael Hadji. Donations of gardening books are very welcome for the second hand book stall, which is in Fairhaven’s Kingfisher Tearoom. But we need additional funds to ensure that the path can be completed by the height of the summer season. Simon Melton A new gin company, based on the outskirts of Norwich, has just produced a fantastic new product called St. Giles Gin. The gin which has only just launched is already proving to be extremely popular. “Although it’s great with tonic, the unique characteristic of St Giles Gin is that it can also be enjoyed without a mixer as it was designed to be a sipping gin. Gin is such a flavoursome drink full of rich botanicals so we wanted to create a drink that was so smooth it didn’t need anything added to it.” As a professional diver, St Giles founder Simon Melton had been fortunate enough to visit many unusual and exotic places around the world, which is what inspired him to create a gin that he felt captured the spirit of adventure. Simon’s wish was to produce a unique sipping gin and after years of research- and plenty of gin sampling- St. Giles Gin was born. St Giles is distilled in Norfolk using a 400 litre custommade copper still called Anna.

The handcrafted spirit has a remarkably smooth taste and contains an elegant blend of 11 exotic botanicals including grains of paradise, lemon grass and rose petals. Each distillation run produces 300 bottles which means that Simon and head distiller Pete Margree can ensure that every bottle has the distinctive St. Giles quality. Simon chose to call his beloved spirit after his favourite street in Norwich where he and his family also have their own 18th century shop. “Although the idea was dreamt up over-seas, I feel very happy that St Giles was born in Norfolk. This fine county has so much to offer in terms local food and drink produce, so it’s great that St Giles can now be part of that...” Simon. As well as St Giles Gin, Simon also has plans to bring out a Diver’s edition later on in the year.

Wymondham Music Festival 2017

Wymondham Music Festival returns for its 22nd year with a packed programme of open air events, recitals and concerts in the historic Norfolk market town. A 48-page booklet detailing the whole Festival programme is now available. The annual Town Busking Day kicks off proceedings on Saturday, May 27 (11am-2pm). Then there is a Market Place Music series, with live music on Saturdays June 3, 10 and 24 (11am-1pm). Festival Fortnight follows from Saturday, July 1 to Sunday, July 16. There'll be more live music in the Market Place on Saturday, July 1 with Wymondham High Academy (11am-1pm), then Feathersfest takes over, rocking The Feathers pub until 11pm.

The Importance Of A Great Bedtime Routine Sleep and our sleeping related habits are once again being subjected to great scrutiny in the media, with many statistics being presented highlighting how important quality sleep is, and how few of us seem to be getting it. We've been told that 90% adults say they don't get enough sleep, 25% struggle with Sunday night insomnia and that sleep-related issues cost UK businesses £40 billion pounds each year, the equivalent of 200,000 lost work days, due to absenteeism, accidents and poor performance. With this in mind we need to focus on ensuring that we support our own great bedtime routine. Here are some tips;

• Consistency is often an important contributor to a good sleep routine, where you have a designated time to switch off from work, eat healthily and aim to go to bed and get up at the same time. Training your mind and body as to

when to wind down is the key to supporting an effective sleep pattern.

• Be proactive in dealing with each day's stresses.

Ask yourself if you've done all you reasonably can to address a particular area of concern, then aim to let it go until further input from you is required. Being disciplined is important in order to calm your 'fight or flight' approach to stress. Commit to good daytime habits and take regular breaks throughout the day, stopping for lunch and aiming to get some fresh air and exercise; all ways to support a positive approach to work/life balance and good sleep.

• Spend quality time with family and friends as

well as scheduling some 'me time' for the things that are important to you. This may require you becoming more assertive and saying 'no' to some of the demands made upon you, but taking good care of yourself means being clear about how much of your time you're prepared to compromise.

• Many people need to maximise their use of space, especially when they work from home. If you've set up an office in your bedroom be sure to screen it off at the end of each working day. Ensure that your bedroom is a calm haven, the place where you close the door at bedtime and relax. Try to keep it free from clutter and an excess of technology, as its presence can be a distraction.

• Be firm about technology. Aim to turn off your

phone and gadgets two hours before you go to bed, so avoiding the temptation to check in 'just one more time'. Have set times for checking emails and social media so that you become more focused and time efficient. Then allow yourself time before bed to calm and still your mind. Keep your phone away from the bed as its blue light has been found to affect sleep quality.

• Also, if you work from home or spend a lot of

your time there have a cut off time when you turn everything off and introduce a routine that signifies the end of the busy part of your day. Turn your phone to answerphone, close your office door, go for a walk and change out of your daytime clothes - all ways to draw a line under your working day.

•

Save any meaningful/important/stressful conversations for a more appropriate time. Last thing at night or when one person is busy, distracted or over-tired will serve neither of you well and can play on your mind when you

should be preparing to sleep. Both agree when to have the discussion and ensure that it then happens. That way you can confidently 'park up' your issues, safe in the knowledge that you won't forget to raise the matter at a better time.

•

Do you come home after work feeling mentally tired and jaded but physically under-exerted? Many people have work that requires either mental or physical effort, so that they end up tired in one area but not the other. Try to find some balance by exercising mentally, with quizzes and crosswords, or by walking, swimming and physical activity, so that you're better able to fall asleep. Otherwise you may be restless and unable to relax.

• Prepare for the day ahead so that there's no

need to clutter your mind with concerns or worries about the coming day. Put your clothes out the night before or adopt a uniform outfit or colour. Use lists to avoid the stress or fear of forgetting something. Being organised can help you feel more in control and better able to sleep.

• A relaxing bath or shower pre-bed is a good way to symbolically wash away the days stresses and strains and prepare for bed. Some people like to read, enjoy a hot, milky drink, meditate, listen to relaxing music or practice some yoga.

Being committed to a positive bedtime routine can be a great investment and an important way to support a good night's sleep.

Carrying On “If they had to go, let them go beautifully”. - A Man Walks Into A Room, Nicole Krauss

If two men disappear in a desert and nobody knows that they’ve gone missing, will they be found? And who will be there to identify them?

...Krauss writes of two men wandering through the desert together in search of home, water, some form of salvation. Talking, mumbling aimlessly to keep one another ‘sane’, the men grow tired, they lose interest in themselves and any chance of survival. As readers, we are not troubled by the introduction of new characters and letting others fade into past pages. We don’t forget names, or chapters in the story where something happened, someone happened, and now everything makes sense. We open books and sometimes close them before reaching the end, and we talk about books, the good ones and especially the bad ones. This book is a good one. I’ve allocated it my ‘travelling book’, my go-to book for train journeys. I keep it that way because I like associating my adventure with theirs; one of discovery, of making new memories, of seeing new faces and long stretches of untouched countryside scenery. The compact pages of intimate descriptions and new experiences equip me with intrigue, they prepare me for the destination and all the unfamiliar things that may happen en route or on arrival. They are flavours and traces of thoughts and voices. What does it mean to let go of someone? Does a locked grasp loosen? Does a memory fade? Is a thought replaced?

If he lets go of her hand, will he remember the touch of her skin? How long will his hand feel the pulse of hers on his palm in her absence?If he or she or I or you lost somebody dear to us, would we expect the world to know? Would we expect the world to understand and share our feelings? I have always found it fascinating that in every mind of every person we pass during the day, everyone is thinking. Everyone has a thought, a perception, and an awareness, some kind of sensitivity. Every day we let go of something; a door handle, a lover, a losing battle, an unjustified point, a handshake, a stress, an incalculable number of things. I’m interested in where the thought goes when it is let go, and for how long it plays a role in a story. How long people mourn for, how long people celebrate for, how mundane one thing is to one person and how significant it is to another. Books are a special place to me because they act as memory banks, for the writer, for the vivid imagination, for the mind that relates, and for the re-reader. Things exist infinitely in a book, in a place where thoughts can be distributed, they take shape, and sentences are translated and redefined over and over. A lay in? Breakfast in bed? Afternoon pint? Are these on your wish list for Father's Day this year? No... nor mine. Now, if I happen to stumble across any of the above, I will of course smile politely and begrudgingly accept! However, what I really want this year is to spend time with the two-little people that have given me the greatest title I will ever possess: Daddy. Along with that, we'll be sharing our time to thank our own Fathers. Father's Day brings the same struggle as Christmas, Mother's Day and Easter in our house. How do we fit everyone into one day, and remain respectful of our siblings that also want to spend time with the same people? With difficulty, is the unfortunate answer. In an ideal world, everyone would get along and be available for one mass day out or celebration. This is rarely suitable for everyone. So, we will probably, after much debate, do the same routine as previous years. A day out with our little family, and then visits later in the day to our Dads. If, that is, plans haven’t already been made with our grandparents or brothers and sisters!

favourite memories of a day out with our daughter was a trip to The Dinosaur Adventure Park. You can join in the soft play, enjoy a picnic or my personal favourite, search for dinosaurs along the dinosaur trail (I like to arm us all with small binoculars and compasses to really get into the role!) Last year, Dads were let in for free, so look out for that offer! I believe Bewilderwood usually have a similar offer. Head slightly further north in Norfolk and you can visit the Muckleborough Military Collection. Lots of vehicles and weaponry to investigate providing fun for the whole family, but special treats are available for Dad with the chance to drive a tank! Travel west from Norwich, and Pettitts Animal Adventure Park isn't far away. There are animals, crazy golf, rides and live shows. Entrance fee is very reasonable and all the rides at the fair are included in the ticket price. I would definitely visit the gift shop on the way out for some fudge for the journey home! Humpty Dumpty Brewery is conveniently located next door, providing tours and of course, a shop to treat Dad!

The Diary of a Norfolk Family. By Mark King Above: Mark King Six weeks, that's all it's been! When I was a child the school holidays seemed to take forever to arrive, but now I'm an adult they seem to arrive ever so quickly. It's been six weeks since the family returned from our holiday on the Canary Islands, and the children are off school for the half term holidays already. It's been just over six weeks since I badly twisted my ankle on that start of that holiday and I've made about an eighty percent recovery. It's been six lost weeks of training for Run Norwich 2017 and six weeks of putting back on the weight I had lost in the weeks leading up to the holiday. The swelling has gone down although it still aches and feels stiffer than before I twisted it. I have only just started to run again; well I say run, but it's more like a fast walk. The few days I just hobbled around just a fraction of the normal circuit I cover as I tried to rebuild not only my strength, but also my confidence. At the present time, I do have a nagging doubt that I will be able to complete the Run Norwich 10k in early August. I entered last year for the first time, and was so happy when I completed it that I boasted of my plans to be running a half marathon within twelve months. As they say, the best-laid plans of mice and men! In my case, at the moment I feel more like a lumbering elephant and I can only hope that over the remaining two months before the event I am able to find the inspiration to get back on track; although as I wrote this Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m sitting at home with my feet up as the wife is pounding the streets with her own running friends as she too had entered. The first thing you need to know about my dad is he liked to do things his way. He also liked to take things easy. He wasn’t lazy, but when Jack Nicholson said ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, Dad was first in queue to take Above: Keri Beevis his advice. Dad only ever wanted a comfortable life and for him this consisted of cigarettes, alcohol and fine food, plus, a daily walk through the aisles of our local supermarket, where he knew all of the staff by name, and would leisurely peruse the wine section, helpfully recommending bottles to complete strangers. He grew up in Long Melford where he and our uncle liked to consider themselves the wide boys about town, dressing in Cuban heels and long leather coats. Although in old photos they look like the Kray brothers, they were more like The Waltons, and, as children, we heard tales about how they saved the local factory from burning down, were head hunted by Colchester United and stopped local thugs taking over the village pub. At thirty Dad decided that he had outgrown village life. He had worked as a roadie in London with various bands and had contacts in the industry. Packing his bags, he headed for the heady lights of Norwich, his philosophy being ‘why be a small fish in a big pond, when you can be a big fish in a small pond?’ To be fair to him, he made waves in the music business in the early 70s, bringing several artistes to East Anglia, from Fleetwood Mac to The Who, and he is remembered fondly by many in the industry. The rock n roll lifestyle did mean that on the night I was born, he was out partying with Rod Stewart having promoted him at the Wheeley Festival. Weeks later, Rod went on to have a number one single with Maggie May and the rest is history. As dad settled into family life, priorities changed and, although he kept the ‘Liam Gallagher of the seventies’ look, he set up his own entertainment agency, working from home. This allowed free time

for golf, though Dad was a player was what was best described as a ‘unique’ swing. He also introduced Mama Beev to the sport, but this backfired when she proved to be much better than him. As Mama Beev excelled and the lounge cabinet became home to her trophies, Dad resigned himself to becoming occasional trolley puller and secretary of her fan club. Lack of golf meant lack of exercise, so we got a dog, and Dad, along with our crazy mutt, Cody, became a familiar sight around the village. Cody never travelled well in the car and this came to light when Dad, Mama Beev, Brother and Sister took him to the coast one day for a run on the beach. Family walks always followed the same routine. Dad would walk ahead of everyone else; figuring the quicker he walked, the quicker it would be over. The rest of the flock would follow, with my sister whining to Mama Beev that her legs were aching or she needed an ice cream. My brother would keep tabs on everything my sister was asking for to ensure he didn’t miss out. On this occasion the family was walking along the high street in Wells. As Dad marched ahead, people were giving him a wide berth. Oblivious, he didn’t realise that Cody’s upset stomach had turned into diarrhoea and was dripping down his trouser leg. Let’s just say it was an uncomfortable and smelly ride home. There are many great stories I could tell you about Dad. He died 16 years ago this May, so never witnessed Mama Beev become Captain of her golf club, my sister join the police or know that I became a published author. Mostly though, I think he would be devastated to learn my brother works for a whisky magazine and he would have never had to pay for a bottle again. PAGE

GoPro Hero 5 Session

The Compact 4k Camera with Voice Control GoPro have been at the top end of the action camera market for a long time and have consistently produced really high-quality products, the Hero 5 range brings a whole range of functionality not seen before in a GoPro, so I was eager to find out more. There are two cameras' in the Hero 5 range, the Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session, this month I have been reviewing the Session. The Session is a small camera! Measuring 38 x 38 x 36 mm (1.5 x 1.5 x 1.4 inch). On the front is the camera lens and the back is a small button, on the side is a covered MicroSD and USB-C port and finally on top is the shutter button which is also used for controlling the camera. There is also a very small mono led screen which lets you know the status and mode of the camera. The camera comes equipped with on-board wifi and it is using this and a free app that you can control and preview the camera.

There is also a brand new 'Voice Control' mode too, which allows you to command the camera. There are 12 commands it understands ranging from 'GoPro Start Recording', 'GoPro Take a Photo' to 'GoPro Switch Off'. It actually works really well, however I only tried it in a room environment, so I'm not sure how it works out in the field, waves or ski slope though. There are a heap of video modes you can shoot including 720p,960p,1080p,1440p,2,7k and up to 4k, these also offer up a variety of frame rates from 30fps at 4k to 120fps at 720p, there is the ability to remove the dreaded fish eye effect with 'Linear' in some modes and there is image stabilisation available up to 1080p, so those bumpy rides of ski videos will have less judder for viewers. The image quality is simply amazing! I have always doubted the quality of the videos provided by manufactures, but the Hero 5 Session really does delivery with zero post processing. I was honestly astounded by the 4k footage and I'm looking forward to getting out on my bike to get some off-road footage over the next few days.

The Hero 5 range is also compatible with the GoPro Karma drone for those looking to take their footage high into the air. The camera can also take 10mp photos either in standard, time-lapse or burst mode with the ability to take 30 10mp photos in 1 second! All of these settings are changeable with dozens of options available. For people looking to use the GoPro as a dash cam, there is also 'Loop' mode on the video, although you might be better off looking for a dedicated device for this.

All in all, I'm impressed with the GoPro Hero 5 Session, at ÂŁ299 it's by no means the cheapest camera around and you might be looking at the Hero 4 Session for half the price. However, with the drop if price you lose all of the killer features of the Hero 5 including 4k.

Introducing The AllNew Skoda Karoq

Last month, our motoring editor, Tim Barnes-Clay, attended the world premiere of the Skoda Karoq in Stockholm, Sweden. The compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) is the latest model to join the Czech automaker’s increasingly upmarket line-up. So, what’s the Karoq like? Well, it’s clear from the exterior shape, modified lines and larger dimensions that this is a completely fresh car.

2,638mm (all-wheel version: 2,630mm) gives the Karoq a comfortable stance on the road and provides an indication of the roomy cabin.

The Karoq is an SUV with character: the vehicle’s emotive and dynamic form characterises Skoda’s latest design language.

Practicality The luggage compartment has a capacity of 521 litres with the rear seats in place. With the back seats folded down, the volume increases to 1,630 litres. The VarioFlex system consists of three separate chairs, which can be individually adjusted and be completely removed - and the Karoq is then converted into a van-like SUV with a maximum load capacity of 1,810 litres.

Room The compact SUV measures 4,382mm in length, is 1,841mm wide, and 1,605mm high. The increase in size benefits the passengers. The kneeroom is 69mm. The long wheelbase of PAGE

Connectivity The Skoda Karoq is at the top of its segment with innovative connectivity solutions. The infotainment system offers state-of-the-art functions, interfaces and is equipped with touch displays. The flagship systems, Columbus and Amundsen, even have a Wi-Fi hotspot. What’s more, the intelligent capability of pairing a car with a smartphone has reached a new level in the Karoq. The SmartLink+ platform, compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, is available as an option for the basic infotainment system Swing. SmartLink+ comes as standard with higher infotainment systems. The Phonebox, with inductive charging, couples the smartphone to the roof antenna and simultaneously charges it wirelessly. Assistance The Skoda Karoq also offers a comprehensive range of driver assistance systems. New comfort systems include Park Assist, Lane Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind Spot Detect, Front Assist with predictive pedestrian protection and Emergency Assist serve to increase safety. The freely programmable digital instrument panel is available for the first time in a Skoda. In the Karoq, the cockpit displays can be set to the driver’s individual preferences. Additionally, full-LED headlights with clear-lens optics are available as an option. In the cabin, new LED ambient lighting in the decorative door trims and the dashboard creates a pleasant atmosphere, which can be set to one of ten colours.

Engines The Skoda Karoq offers state-of-the-art technologies for engines. Five engine variants - two petrol and three diesel engines – will be available. The two petrol engines and two diesels are new in the line-up. The displacement ranges are 1.0, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 litres; the power range is from 115 PS to 190 PS. All powertrains feature turbo-charged direct injection units, as well as stop-start technology and brake energy recovery. They are extremely efficient and comply with EU 6 regulations. Except for the most powerful diesel, all drivetrains can be ordered with a six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed DSG automatic. The 2.0 TDI with 190 PS comes as standard with 4×4 drive and seven-speed DSG. The new 1.5 TSI has the special feature of cylinder deactivation. Chassis The Skoda Karoq chassis also sets benchmarks in its segment and demonstrates its quality, even off the beaten track. Driving Mode Select with the Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual and Snow (4x4) modes is available on request. The Off-Road mode with all-wheel drive improves the driving characteristics on rough terrain. Launch As part of Skoda’s 2025 Strategy, the marque will be continually expanding its family over the coming years. The primary focus will be on broadening the SUV range. Most recently, the Kodiaq became the brand’s first large SUV to be launched in the international markets. With the Karoq, Skoda has now reached the next milestone. How To Use The Instagram Carousel Feature To Promote Your Business

Walkthroughs Show someone around your ‘business’ but without costly time consuming virtual tours why not consider using a series of photos or videos to give viewers a ‘walkthrough’ for your product or service. Warm beer and sunshine I have just attended a party which has reminded me of the 1940s Yanks biggest complaint about the British, Warm Beer! On this occasion, I have to agree. Entering the summer Beer Festival season this is something that I will experience time and again, from all the lovely outside marquees with a beautiful array of metal casks, yet only a damp towel to protect them from 26°c + heat. Sometimes the casks have a thermal jacket to keep them snug with some token ice cubes, cue the Mission Impossible music now playing in your head.

Why though is this the case? Cooling systems are out there to be hired or borrowed. When I see these hugging a cask I know that I will have a beer that has been loved and cared for.

Unfortunately, it is not just a problem with beer festivals the same can happen in our pubs. Why is beer temperature so important?

Because it affects the flavour, our taste buds pick up different things depending on the temperature of it. The colder the drink the less you taste, why do you think ice cold Guinness or Carlsberg sells? So, what is the ideal temperature for our favourite tipple?

For light crisp Lagers, Pilsners or Wheat beers 4-7°c is good. Allow them to warm gently to let malt come through on your palate. IPA’s some Stouts and Porters are best at 8-10°c; whereas Belgian beers, Sours, Bitters and Milds give their best between 10-14°c.

Stronger brews like Imperial Stouts and Barley wines blossom when served at 13-16°c. If you start at the right temperature you can then see how the aromas and tastes change in your beer allowing the beer to take you on a journey with each sip.

I am not saying that this is a hard and fast rule, we all like different things and stealing a quote from D. Carpenter (via, Tallertgue and Voltaire)

‘I may disapprove of the way you drink your beer, but I will defend to the death your right to drink it that way.’

Now for the sunshine and my nibble of the month. To me tapas screams summer especially with a beer (at the right temperature) and so I ventured to the new tapas place down Bridewell Alley, Alley Ole. The menu is limited but the taste is great. There are Spanish beers some well-known and some more regional so I selected Palax at 4.9% to accompany my £10 tapas range. This selection included Avocado, Calamari rings, Chicken croquettes and a light Tortilla. These were served Twitter: @icenimagazine

with homemade Aioli (Alioli in Spanish) which was smooth, soft and left none of that oily greasy feel in your mouth. The staff were attentive and even knew about their beer.

It’s a good job I no longer work in the museum as I would end up as their biggest customer (in more ways than one).

Now it’s time for a cool beer and a BBQ.

The origins of Father’s Day are much disputed, but one thing we can all agree on is that it’s a great excuse to thank those father figures in our lives (biological or otherwise!) who have helped to make us who we are. It falls on the 3rd Sunday in June, which this year is June 18th. Father’s Day is thought to have originated in America, and came over to the UK in the 1940’s. As we all know cards and gifts are traditionally given here in the UK. In Germany, however, it’s often celebrated by a day of drinking beer and wine! What’s On For Children At Holkham Country Fair

Red Arrows North Norfolk’s biennial Country Fair is offering fun for all the family with an action packed line-up of child friendly activities and attractions across the twoday event on 22 & 23 July. And what’s more children aged 14 years and under will be able to enjoy all the entertainment absolutely free. Originally set up by the 7th Earl of Leicester Edward Coke, Holkham Country Fair has always been an event to educate children about country life in a fun, cost-effective and memorable way. The much-loved event will be welcoming back some of its popular attractions as well as offering some brand news ones too, including: • The 60-meter long Zip Wire which is a first for 2017. Suitable for all ages, children can enjoy an adrenaline rush as they speed through the grounds of Holkham Hall. • Charlotte Hill’s Birds of Prey. Families can enjoy performances taking place in the Grand Ring or visit the falconry area to listen to talks and displays about the birds.

• Exotic Animal Encounters. Children will have the chance to meet and interact with exotic animals which would normally only be seen in a zoo. Enjoy learning about the animal kingdom before meeting meerkats, skunks, coatimundi, snakes and much more. • Children can enjoy the Old Tyme Fairground complete with Galloping Horses, a Helter Skelter, Chairs-o-Planes and a Ferris wheel. • To encourage participation, the Children’s March Past gives younger visitors the opportunity to march with the band around the Grand Ring. One lucky child will also be named Drum Major and lead the march. • Ferret Racing and Showing. Fantastic Mr Fox June 21-24 Much-Loved Children’s Novel Takes To The Stage No-one outfoxes a fox despite the efforts of three greedy, smelly and horrid farmers. That is the story behind a new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic novel Fantastic Mr Fox, which is on its way to Norwich Theatre Royal. Running from June 21-24, it tells the story of Mr Fox who is smart, clever and rather fantastic. He does not bargain on how determined the nasty trio of farmers are to get revenge on him. Mr Fox needs to hatch a plan to save his family and friends while outsmarting everyone who is out to get him and that is while trying to keep the very enthusiastic Rabbit from giving his plans away. Cue family fun at its finest with this exciting family production aimed at all ages and helping to celebrate one of Dahl’s greatest books soon after the celebrations around his centenary. Taking on the lead role of Mr Fox is Greg Barnett who has appeared on TV in the BBC’s cult hit Fleabag and daytime favourite Doctors, as well as enjoying a wide-ranging theatre career in the likes of Swallows and Amazons in the West End and on tour, Zorro at The Garrick in London’s theatre-land, and the UK tour of Sweeney Todd. The play has been adapted for the stage by Sam Holcroft whose most recent play Rules For Living premiered at the National Theatre last year. Her other work includes Dancing Bears for the Latitude Festival in Suffolk and London’s Soho Theatre, Pink for Tricycle Theatre, and Cockroach for the National Theatre of Scotland. And the composer and one of the lyricists for the show, Arthur Darvill, is very well-known for a string of high-profile TV roles. He played the big-hearted Rev Paul Coates in Broadchurch and the lovable Rory in Doctor Who. Arthur is also no stranger to the music world composing for a number of productions including the Olivier Award-nominated National Theatre production I Want My Hat Back, The Frontline for The Globe, and Jack and the Beanstalk for the Lyric Hammersmith. John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: “This promises to be a fantastic production with a strong cast and some fantastically creative people working behind the scenes. Greed, pride and the power of friendship all come into sharp focus in this production which also features live music and songs, and some incredible designs. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm ‘n’ Blues. This quintessentially British ‘Mod’ Musical celebrates the unique sound of the iconic ‘60s Mod band, The Small Faces. Queen Tribute Royalty Set To Rock Norwich KILLER QUEEN JUNE 18, 2017 Returning to bring a special ‘kinda magic’ to the Norwich Theatre Royal stage on Sunday, June 18, is the Royalty of tribute acts, Killer Queen. The group has been performing its tribute to the supergroup led by Freddie Mercury since 1993, thrilling audiences across the globe from the UK to Moscow and, in 2016, completing a successful first tour of the USA. Their top-quality musicianship and dynamic stage presence in full-on concerts sees them belting out a wide range of the high energy hits that marked Queen out as legends. The band is fronted by Patrick Myers as Freddie Mercury. He not only bears an uncanny likeness to the man himself with a three-and-a-half octave range enabling him to hit those Mercury high notes, but he has also earned approval from Queen guitarist Brian May whose website declares: “This guy is not to be missed”. Formed in 1993, frontman Patrick Myers is backed by a four-piece band, hand-picked to emulate the musicianship of Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. Patrick said: “That first show back in June 1993 changed my life. We thought our band would last maybe a summer at the most but it's a very addictive thing performing these songs! The concerts grew and grew and we've ended up playing and selling out the same arenas that Queen played at their peak. It's been quite a surreal ride.” Killer Queen’s first public shows were at London University, following in the footsteps of the real Queen who had played their first shows there 21 years earlier. By 1995, the tribute band’s UK popularity had grown to such an extent they secured a residency in London's Strand Theatre attracting nationwide BBC coverage and making them the first tribute to have a show in the West End. They were further recognised by the music industry in 1999 when Suggs from Madness presented them with the award for Worldwide Best Tribute Band. PAGE

“This guy is not to be missed” During their various careers, the band members have gone on to work and record with a vast array of artistes including Queen drummer Roger Taylor, guitarist Brian May and Spanish soprano Montserrat Caballe, who famously recorded the duet Barcelona with Freddie Mercury. They also scored a number one hit when they were asked to recreate Queen's harmonies for The Real Life with Fatboy Slim in 2001, and they have twice played the Ahoy Stadium in Rotterdam where the re-formed Queen have also performed. They were selected to represent Queen in a restaged tribute Live Aid concert held by Sir Bob Geldof and performed with him at his arena charity concert to raise funds for the homeless. The band has also performed with Wilson Pickett, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Mica Paris and the Bootleg Beatles, packing out theatres and arenas around the UK. For the Norwich date, audience members can expect a high energy performance with a stunning stage set and special effects and faithful renditions of Queen’s greatest hits from across their entire recording career from the Seven Seas of Rhye through to their 90s classics - and displaying more than a smattering of that commanding Mercury magic and dynamic stage presence, Patrick Myers will ensure everyone is up on their feet and having a killer night.
