Art and Culture in Spanish Instituto Cervantes New York

Creative Tools and Group Dynamics

New York, May 16th, 2015

What is the Open Cultura Progam? Open Cultura was created to offer creative workshops and seminars. As a shared workspace, it multiplies our experiences, improves our Spanish, and expands our knowledge by stimulating creativity thanks to shared work in artistic territory: an OPEN space to learn more and learn better.

Understand and adopt different approaches to a work of art or theater, either as a spectator or performer.

Content The workshop, which lasts three hours, is structured in three sections to engage both oral and written Spanish skills: Poetry: get to know the basic tools in order to create conventional poems; analyze and create visual poems. Image: a painting and photography session. Theater: Physical acting and the basic ideas behind interpretation.

Methodology

1st Spanish Art and Culture Workshop The objective in the first workshop of this new program – Open Cultura – is to reinforce the expressive abilities and communications strategies of educators, cultural leaders, and librarians so that their students and patrons learn and enjoy learning in a more artistic, extraordinary place. For the most optimal and fluid experience, we ask for the active participation of all the enrolled professionals.

Objectives Connect with the needs, interests and vital experiences of students and patrons through the inclusion of references relevant to their contemporary culture.

In this classroom environment the methodology will be flexible and open to the participants’ personal experiences and willingness to share with the group, with a focus on cooperative work: learning to learn through shared experiences.

Workshop coordinators Txemi Parra is a screenwriter, actor, and monologist with more than 15 years of experience working in Spanish television. Rafael Abolafia has a degree in interpretation and physical acting from the AndalucĂa Center for Dramatic Arts; he is a theater director, actor and teacher of Spanish at ICNY.
