SEBERINA WILSON I am from Kannapolis, NC and came to Atlanta in 1976. I was raised by my grandparents until age 17. I have 2 adult daughters ages 29 and 26. I have 2 grandchildren ages 2 and 8. My large Wilson family was always christian and faith based with a host of Bishops and Pastors. I was involved in the church choir and loved fashion. My first gift was a sewing machine that I learned to sew on from my mother and father’s mother who were from american indian ancestors. One sewed at home for a living. My family had many talented business owners and fashion boutique owners that developed my love for business and fashion. I got my start in modeling on January 1, 2016 with the Lyngale modeling agency as an over 40 Ageless Beauty Model on a part-time basis. At the age of 56 I found my self facing early retirement at the age of 58 having worked in the corporate world for 35 years in the legal services. Not realizing that everyone does not get the privilege of retiring at the age of 65 with full benefits. But in life you learn to adjust to the times and start a new chapter. I was single again after 30 years and still filled with hopes and dreams that I had not fully pursued. It was a freedom to choose my path and to follow my desires. My love for fashion became my focus and passion. It was no longer something I would do part-time for fun but with a goal in mind. I approached it with the idea that perhaps I could have a positive impact in the industry that was now accepting older or shorter full size models on the runway. What was important was to learn all that I could and develop myself as a brand model. For that to happen you must have social circles in business and build new relationships that had the same goals. I learned that if you keep doing the same thing you will not get different results. In order to

accomplish that you have to be bold, outgoing and network. Do things that are out ICONIQUE of your traditional MAGAZINE comfort zone and believe that you can do anything with your gifts, talents and abilities. The fear of failing was not an option, only the fear of not trying will stop you I have been published in several magazines, created a Model Sharing group of over 400 members from around the world. I am dedicated and concerned with the models welfare and safety. I worked for a year as a model coordinator for editorial photo shoots for Urban Spice Magazine. There are successes as well as the dos and don’t I learned if you want to develop a career. I joined a team of both beauty, fashion and the magazine industry to promote Hollywood Monday business professionals that support each other. Our goal is to come together, get connected, stay connected and to support each other. We support the models, media, magazines, designers, photographers, makeup artist, hair salons and stylist by promoting and advertising their products and line of business. I will be 60 in March of 2019 and I’m still reaching for new doors and new goals. I have been inspired by positive role models and friends in the magazine and entertainment field to express my creativity. Tina Bridges the Ceo of the Over 40 Ageless Beauty of Atlanta, and a 65 year old model and talented actor and friend Lanita Jo Fox that made me feel that you can do anything with practice and confidence. My first movie role as an actor was written by and directed by Bobby and Renee Warren Peoples of the Atlanta TPN television network. The movie “Fixation” is in to Walmart stores near you on Dvd.

BEHIND THE LOOK WITH ANDREA T.

TAKES A LOOK AT YOUR HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FROM A HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE . FOCUSING ON SUBJECTS LIKE EATING RIGHT, AND WHEN. WHEN TO EXCERSISE ALSO WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS AND HOW NOT THINKING RIGHT CAN LEAD TO BAD PHYSICAL HABITS.

SELF CARE

Reflection and Self Care Here we are again, less than 30 days before a new year. Have you accomplished all that you set out to do this year? Did you take time for yourself along the way? If you said no to both, let us try to make next year a little bigger and brighter. Instead of making changes without considering your health, mentally, physically and emotionally well-being, put yourself first! This is not being selfish; this is you caring for you. Self-care goes beyond the occasional mani-pedi or massage. While these are great examples of taking time for yourself, in order to reap the substantial benefits of self-care, you must make a consistent commitment and expand your routine of caring for yourself to nourish all levels of your being. First, let’s define what self-care means. Self-care is activity that nurtures and refuels you at a deep level. As a Integrative health coach, we learn the important of primary and secondary foods and self care is a primary food. What we nourish your body with is secondary. This expands our understanding of nutrition, the definition for self-care is multifaceted. Each of us has many sides that make us whole: • Physical body • Emotional and mental state • Spiritual beliefs • Relationship to self • Relationship to others • Work. These areas offer unique spaces for care and attention. In the realm of self-care, the options are limitless. The key is to identify which areas of your life need attention and engage in activities that support you on a regular basis. You may find that what works for you changes over time. Perhaps you recognize a need for connections at some point, so your daily exercise goes from a solo run to a walk with a friend. Here are some questions for you to ponder:

1. Which areas of your life would you like to focus some specific attention? Choose one area and brainstorm five self-care activities that might work for you. Feel free to continue this with other areas needing nourishment. You must give yourself permission to practice self-care to have a fulfilling life. Engaging in regular, high quality self-care is crucial; it has a positive ripple effect on your personal and professional success. Consider self-care as a high-leverage business tool, which is proof that you are walking your talk for your clients. Keep in mind that your participation in self-care will ebb and flow. The areas of your life that

need balance will shift and the ways you want to fill those needs will change as well. How self-care looks in your life may change drastically from one period to the next, but it’s important that the routine – and the consistent effort of caring for yourself – is always present. The final piece in creating effective selfcare rituals is establishing a positive attitude and a determined mind-set. By allowing yourself the time and space to practice self-care without negative emotions weighing you down, you and those around you will reap the benefits. Your energy and enthusiasm for life will shine and you will begin to attract the people and things in your life that you most desire. Happy Healthy Holidays! ICONIQUE MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2018 EDITION

As Christmas nears, this Holiday elicits a wide range of emotions; joy, anticipation, sadness and surprise. The joy of spending time with those you love, the anticipation of new beginnings, the sadness for those lost or not able to be in your company and the surprise of caring, sharing and giving that bring souls together for this festive moment. With time, everyone eventually feels this spectrum of emotions. To those feeling the joy of Christmas, cherish these times and make memories that will fill your days with purpose and share your passion for life with those you love; to those feeling the anticipation of this great day, may you receive all of your desired blessing’s and give thanks to those who share their world with you; to those feeling sadness, may you find the light of lost loves, long distance and duty in the smiles of children, friends, strangers and family, knowing all that has been lost is not lost in the universe; to those feeling surprise, may it be childlike in purity, grace and beauty and hold onto that feeling as if gold, wrap it up for future moments to be opened in warm remembrance of days gone by. I, for one, will be feeling all of these emotions. The joy of sharing time with those I love, the caress of those near, the hugs of familial presence and the kiss of those dear. The anticipation of new life, love and artistic creation, some of which are shared on the accompanying pages. The sadness of loss, not able to share in giving with those lost in time, the bond of brotherhood. And finally, the feeling of surprise I feel every day of this season, seeing, hearing, feeling and smelling the bounty of benediction bestowed upon this soul of mine. Thank you to all, have a very Merry Christmas and may your life be blessed.

Accessories can be real statement pieces and a way to show your personality in an otherwise classic outfit. Fashion accessories are a great way to spice up any wardrobe, especially one that could use an updating. Are you interested in updating your appearance, at least in terms of your fashion? If you are, you may not only want to examine the latest in clothing fashion trends, but also the latest trends in fashion accessories. Fashion accessories are rapidly increasing in popularity, particularly in our celebrity-obsessed culture. But many of us still do not know exactly how to use them to our best advantage. The term “fashion accessories is very broad and includes a number of products. Just like fashion clothing pieces, accessories come in virtually every size, shape and style under the sun. There are fashion accessories that are designed for children, teens, men, women, petite sized, and plus sized individuals. Below are a few of the major fashion accessory items you might want consider in order to keep your look current and expand your coordination options. The most well known fashion accessory is of course, jewellery. For teenagers and children, fashion jewelry pieces that are popular often include colourful, oversized pieces, as well as charm necklaces or charm bracelets. For men, a popular piece of jewellery often includes large pendant necklaces, many of which display a cross or another popular or meaningful symbol. As for women, popular pieces of fashion jewelry include watches, earnings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins, and so forth. Another major fashion accessory that you might want to look at is a new handbag. While purses can also be trendy, it is the handbag that has become a real status symbol and major fashion accessory. They come in a huge array of different styles so it is common to own more than one if your budget allows. In fact, many women out there like to match their fashion accessories, including their purses and handbags, with the clothing that they wear. [Continue on Page 24] Updating your handbag every season can be an easy and relatively inexpensive way to update your whole look. If your wardrobe is filled with classic pieces that flatter your body shape and suit

your colouring, then simply choosing a new trendy handbag can instantly bring your look up to the minute. Travel bags are also considered a fashion accessory, but differ from handbags in that a lot of them are designed for both sexes. A travel bag is generally a small bag that can be used 34

ICONIQUE MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2018 EDITION National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was established in 1996 by The Academy of American Poets. The purpose was to help put poetry on a platform and give it the respect it deserves. While poetry and spoken word have been around for centuries, they have yet to receive the acknowledgment that other components of the artistic world has garnered. It’s true that poets like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and the more colorful Dr. Seuss have gained notoriety, but poets and poetry as a whole have never been highly respected or given the correct acclaim. Although a large number of spoken word artists travel and share their gifts, none are really compensated in a manner that match their counterparts in the performing arts and aside form Maya Angelou, no other has never really gained a sense of celebrity. Now, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t working. Poets like Georgia Me (who appeared in Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes To Jail”) and Lemon Andersen (who appeared in a number of movies including “The Pianist” and “Inside Man”) have been on their big screen grind. Speaking of Georgia Me, she in 2008 started The Tamika Fest; an annual, weeklong festival that takes place at the end of April in Atlanta, GA. The festival celebrates poetry, spoken word, and For All of your Photography Needs. Conthose workEnt. diligently at keeping the genre All tactwho Secure Photography. Serving relevant. While the festival sees a large number 50 States of attendees who flock from every part of the world the festival, in its 10 year tenure, has yet to be mentioned among other huge festivals like Coachella, SXSW, AfroPunk, and others. Like the Tamika Fest creator, Tamika Harper AKA Georgia Me, others have attempted to place poetry and spoken word in the limelight. Television shows like Def Poetry Jam and Verses & Flow saw temporary success with great alums like M’Reld Green from Chicago; Abyss, Tommy Bottoms, Theresa Songbird, and Queen Sheba all of Atlanta, DDE the Slammer of Indianapolis, and Black Ice of Philly just to name
