ICONIQUE MAGAZINE My name is Angela Foxworth. I guess you’re wondering who that actually is? I am a woman living her destiny. My ultimate desire is to motivate, educate and demonstrate the ability we all have within ourselves to live our dreams and to fulfill our destinies. My love to see people win is truly my life’s goal and I am aspiring to do just that. Let me be clear, I have not always been on this path to reach this goal. As a matter of fact, I thought this dream had passed. My journey started in college where I was destined for glory. I had left high school on top of the world. I attended a predominantly white school, However, I was the first black to ever be voted most popular, second black homecoming queen, first black female to ever be a Key mascot.(most popular social club in high school) and was headed to College to be the next Oprah Winfrey. At least that was the plan. But like anything else in life sometimes our plans can get derailed. I went on to college and after two years got pregnant. Things did not work out with my son’s father and I had to drop out of college. Dream deferred. I jumped right into the workforce as I was now a single, black, mother of one. I went from being a dream seeker to a statistic. I was very happy to be a mom and for three years it was just me and my son. Then I decided to move to Atlanta, Georgia from the town I grew up in which was Jacksonville, Florida. I was told that there were so many opportunities for single, black women in Atlanta that I would never find in Jacksonville. So I decided to give it a try. I moved to Atlanta and shortly there after I met my husband and had my second child, my daughter. Dream diminishing. I became a housewife, mother, PTA parent and a corporate America worker. Dream nonexistent. So 20 years of my life passed by. I can’t even recall what I did during that time. I just know that things were not good. My marriage was in trouble. My kids were in trouble. And I had been laid off from corporate America and could never seem to get back on track financially. So like Abraham in the Bible, I moved my family to an unfamiliar place. The analogy would be from the city to the country. I knew I needed a change. By now, I had reached 40. And even with this move nothing had changed. I had a breakdown. But, with that particular break down I also had a vision of a better life for me. And I decided to believe that vision. So I researched to find what it was I set out to do with my life. Dream re-surfacing. I begin to look for opportunities that would lead me to that dream. Never, in my wildest dreams, would I ever thought it would have gotten me to the place I am today!!! So my message is very simple. Never, ever give up on a dream! Life may throw monkey wrenches and even a few boulders, but you are equipped and have enough strength to get back up. As long as you are still alive and able to breathe on this earth you have the ability to do exactly what it is you want to do. Dream realized. Today I am blessed to have the opportunity to be on the cover of this phenomena publication and I want to share with you what it is I am currently doing: Cover Photo: Von Donald Hair Stylist/MUA: Shannon Green/House of Kurves

January is sexual trafficking awareness month and I’m pleased to share with you my personal story dealing with stopping human trafficking. As an ambassador for sex trafficking awareness, and with my years working in the travel business I hope this knowledge I can share with you today will help you recognize the signs of sex trafficking and what you can do to stop it. I’ll never forget that day in January. Her name was Emily and she was only 15 years old. She was from the Ukraine. I could tell immediately this older man was calling from a magic jack. It turned he was calling from Dusseldorf, Germany. In case you didn’t know, there are places in Europe and the USA that are known for being transit points for these disgusting businesses. Did you know that Atlanta Georgia, New York, NY San Francisco, California are known for human trafficking? Particularly sex trafficking? His explained he wanted to travel with his friend. I asked about his friend. It turned out his “friend” was a 15 year old girl!!! Said to myself why would a grown man has 15 year old friends?? It was the end of January, shouldn’t she have been in school? Those were two huge red flags. He wanted to book tickets to go from Germany to Italy. I was suspicious of the man, but the key was to keep him on my call and make small talk with him. I told him of my stories visiting abroad; I wanted to keep him comfortable and keep him talking so I could figure out what was going on. I casually mentioned that I had a daughter myself and could I talk to the girl? Was she there? He put her on the phone and I asked her name and the reason for their trip. Emily explained they were “driving places a lot but this time he wants to fly to make better time” Through experience I knew that in Europe if you are underage certain countries the passport has your parents name on it, not just the child. I explained to her that I didn’t think she would be able to travel to Italy without having either her mother or father with her. This idea was not going to work, but maybe I could work something out. Why didn’t she give me her passport number? She didn’t have it with her, another clue since remember the older man that was with her had to have full control of her all the time. I was surprised he was even letting her talk on phone with me. I then asked for Visa number which I wrote down before I heard the man in the background say “What does she need that for?” Then the call disconnected. In the meantime I had already written down the phone number showing up on my phone since we record our calls for quality and safety concerns. Now since I made small talk with the “Man” I knew the number he was calling from was the equivalent to a burner throw away cell phone here in the USA. I knew it was not traceable, and not a real number. However I also knew you had to have an email to sign up for Magic Jack. Perhaps through the email they could find the culprit? After I made my report, this led to conference call with the FBI. Through my quick thinking the girl was identified and the FBI was one step closer to stopping him and saving Emily. Together, we can stop sex trafficking. Each and every one of us can make a difference if we take the time out to see the signs and report this crime. If you suspect sex trafficking you can contact https://www.cbp.gov To contact Ms. Kim McCall for speaking engagements or a personal consultation, please go to www.Iammskim.com Ms.Kim McCall is also available to speak about 12 domestic violence, motivational speaking, and Relationships in todays world.

Accessories can be real statement pieces and a way to show your personality in an otherwise classic outfit. Fashion accessories are a great way to spice up any wardrobe, especially one that could use an updating. Are you interested in updating your appearance, at least in terms of your fashion? If you are, you may not only want to examine the latest in clothing fashion trends, but also the latest trends in fashion accessories. Fashion accessories are rapidly increasing in popularity, particularly in our celebrity-obsessed culture. But many of us still do not know exactly how to use them to our best advantage. The term “fashion accessories is very broad and includes a number of products. Just like fashion clothing pieces, accessories come in virtually every size, shape and style under the sun. There are fashion accessories that are designed for children, teens, men, women, petite sized, and plus sized individuals. Below are a few of the major fashion accessory items you might want consider in order to keep your look current and expand your coordination options. The most well known fashion accessory is of course, jewellery. For teenagers and children, fashion jewelry pieces that are popular often include colourful, oversized pieces, as well as charm necklaces or charm bracelets. For men, a popular piece of jewellery often includes large pendant necklaces, many of which display a cross or another popular or meaningful symbol. As for women, popular pieces of fashion jewelry include watches, earnings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins, and so forth. Another major fashion accessory that you might want to look at is a new handbag. While purses can also be trendy, it is the handbag that has become a real status symbol and major fashion accessory. They come in a huge array of different styles so it is common to own more than one if your budget allows. In fact, many women out there like to match their fashion accessories, including their purses and handbags, with the clothing that they wear. [Continue on Page 24] Updating your handbag every season can be an easy and relatively inexpensive way to update your whole look. If your wardrobe is filled with classic pieces that flatter your body shape and suit

your colouring, then simply choosing a new trendy handbag can instantly bring your look up to the minute. Travel bags are also considered a fashion accessory, but differ from handbags in that a lot of them are designed for both sexes. A travel bag is generally a small bag that can be used 32

ICONIQUE MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019 EDITION National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was established in 1996 by The Academy of American Poets. The purpose was to help put poetry on a platform and give it the respect it deserves. While poetry and spoken word have been around for centuries, they have yet to receive the acknowledgment that other components of the artistic world has garnered. It’s true that poets like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and the more colorful Dr. Seuss have gained notoriety, but poets and poetry as a whole have never been highly respected or given the correct acclaim. Although a large number of spoken word artists travel and share their gifts, none are really compensated in a manner that match their counterparts in the performing arts and aside form Maya Angelou, no other has never really gained a sense of celebrity. Now, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t working. Poets like Georgia Me (who appeared in Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes To Jail”) and Lemon Andersen (who appeared in a number of movies including “The Pianist” and “Inside Man”) have been on their big screen grind. Speaking of Georgia Me, she in 2008 started The Tamika Fest; an annual, weeklong festival that takes place at the end of April in Atlanta, GA. The festival celebrates poetry, spoken word, and For All of your Photography Needs. Conthose workEnt. diligently at keeping the genre All tactwho Secure Photography. Serving relevant. While the festival sees a large number 50 States of attendees who flock from every part of the world the festival, in its 10 year tenure, has yet to be mentioned among other huge festivals like Coachella, SXSW, AfroPunk, and others. Like the Tamika Fest creator, Tamika Harper AKA Georgia Me, others have attempted to place poetry and spoken word in the limelight. Television shows like Def Poetry Jam and Verses & Flow saw temporary success with great alums like M’Reld Green from Chicago; Abyss, Tommy Bottoms, Theresa Songbird, and Queen Sheba all of Atlanta, DDE the Slammer of Indianapolis, and Black Ice of Philly just to name
