A Gentleman in Purple On June 7, 1958 the legendary singer Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis, MN. Prince started his music career in 1978 and for decades to follow he would produce some of the most iconic funk, rock, pop and R&B music. It’s no secret that Prince’s favorite color was purple, so it is only fitting that during his month, any tribute features the color purple. In addition to Prince’s love of the color purple, historically, the color is known to be associated with royalty, power and wealth. As a gentleman, suits are a staple in my wardrobe and I also love the boldness and richness of the color purple. Trying to find a purple suit off the rack can be a challenge, but it is definitely an option in most custom suit collections. The Dapper Luq Collection which I am wearing for this tribute, has an amazing purple fabric and I paired the suit with a white shirt, smoke colored tie and black fedora. The shoes I am wearing are a black single monk strap shoe from the amazing Virginia based shoe designer MS Shoe Designs. Finally, the two additional accessories I have are the Worley champagne & gold chronograph watch and the black leather duffle bag by Virginia based watch maker Talley and Twine. For any gentleman that wants to stand out in a room full of men in suits, the trick is to utilize unique colors or patterns. In my opinion, purple is one of those unique colors that will ensure you standout in a room full of suits. I recommend black shoes with the suit, but the shirt and tie options are infinite. Don’t be afraid to be bold and showcase your personality even in a well-tailored suit. The main events for this bold suit choice are cocktail events, parties, and of course red carpet events. ~Dapper Luq Luqman Haskett

WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS? Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face. The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow). At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available. Stay informed:
Protecting yourself and others from the spread COVID-19 You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions: Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands. Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and others. Why? When someone coughs, sneezes, or speaks they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person has the disease. Avoid going to crowded places. Why? Where people come together in crowds, you are more likely to come into close contact with someone that has COIVD-19 and it is more difficult to maintain physical distance of 1 metre (3 feet). Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth. Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and infect you. Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately and wash your hands. Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene, you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19. Stay home and self-isolate even with minor symptoms such as cough, head-
ache, mild fever, until you recover. Have someone bring you supplies. If you need to leave your house, wear a mask to avoid infecting others. Why? Avoiding contact with others will protect them from possible COVID-19 and other viruses. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention, but call by telephone in advance if possible and follow the directions of your local health authority. Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections. Keep up to date on the latest information from trusted sources, such as WHO or your local and national health authorities. Why? Local and national authorities are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.
Advice on the safe use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers To protect yourself and others against COVID-19, clean your hands frequently and thoroughly. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wash your hands with soap and water. If you use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, make sure you use and store it carefully. Keep alcohol-based hand sanitizers out of children’s reach. Teach them how to apply the sanitizer and monitor its use. Apply a coin-sized amount on your hands. There is no need to use a large amount of the product. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose immediately after using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, as it can cause irritation.
Hand sanitizers recommended to protect against COVID-19 are alcohol-based and therefore can be flammable. Do not use before handling fire or cooking. Under no circumstance, drink or let children swallow an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. It can be poisonous. Remember that washing your hands with soap and water is also effective against COVID-19.

RIP Mr. Floyd I never claimed to be a conscious writer but the latest travesty has made my conscience tighter… I can’t speak but my pen leaks... for George Floyd in spite of… I try to find a spark in the dark in hopes of days much brighter… But the lack of justice forces me to become a fighter… My skin is light but it will never be whiter… or I should say “White Enough” to be considered NOT A THREAT to society… Even with my degree, experience and pedigree, when I walk down the street there will always be a few people that will fear me, may be disgusted by me, envious, jealous, or may think less of me… simply because I’m a minority... I thought it was a free world but nothing is free in the land of the lawless… When I have to watch where I go, how I speak, watch what I wear… Every second of my LIFE is filled with thoughts or messages of “Be careful… I must say cautious”... from the heartless monsters… America celebrates a space force and discovering life forms on other worlds and the moon… But society treats us like buffoons, cops kill us like animals… and they call us “the goons!” The facts remain constant… A black man in America can be as powerful or more powerful than his counterparts but when it comes to fair treatment… He’s less than a human when he leaves his home, office, business that he owns or even sitting on a plane, in a seat that he paid for… I live in the most powerful country in the world but I may get questioned if I sit in a first class seat… It’s assumed that if I sit there, I have to be a rapper or athlete... As my wise brother proclaimed… “I’m just a black man with money!” But my status doesn’t matter and I still get treated funny… I still get stares, and despite my rights, I exist in a world of wrongness… Governed by rules, fools and the clowns in congress… I watched and rejoiced 8 years of having the first black president… Even with his power, intellect and prestige, he was still treated as just another black man… aka a low class, ignorant resident… He ran the country and lived in the white house… many people made it a habit for him to be denounced… He left with dignity and pride… The opposition cheered for other reasons… It was his time to bounce… But some of us cried and were in pain… we knew the world would never be the same… And that it would probably never, ever happen again.
Now, I watch a man who’s called that nation’s leader… but he’s truly a repeater… of those who practice hate, separatism and callous disrespect… I never thought I would see a man die, by a cop, from forcing his knee into his neck… three of his counterparts watched, simply omitting that he had a pulse that should be checked… Paramedics showed up and asked to check… The lead officer, or the killer, says “It’s not necessary!” Why because he already knew George Floyd was dead! He knew people were watching, while the whole time he was smirking, he knew it was being filmed… He knew we would be furious and he didn’t want a bounty on his head… George Floyd wasn’t even properly placed on the gurney… It was more of a roll… As if they already knew he was dead… If you’ve seen or moved a dead body once… you never forget… The picture stays in your mind and never leaves your head… Then they change the narrative and say “He died in the hospital!” As if we are morons and should believe more lies… more disrespect we are quickly fed… The charade is blatant and so obvious… We are told to be patient and calm… While the cops are cruel, evil and grossly obnoxious… It takes a great deal to make me upset but.. This has singed my soul and has tarnished my conscience. I heard the retorts of other cops who said “Never in any of their training, are they taught to restrain in that manner.” But what’s not understood is George Floyd was killed for a reported fake bill. Only to be discovered it was legit… No investigation or conversation was attempted… No fine or citation… He forcefully had his ego shattered… and you wonder why we’re madder… He was treated less than a human… He gasped for air until his last breath… Gasping, crying, begging for mercy... it DIDN’T matter... I never claimed to be a conscious writer… I can’t speak but my pen leaks... for George Floyd in spite of… the constant level of disrespect… the abundant wrongness… We can only be calm, be still and pray… until we are left with no options. © RIP Mr. Floyd #CONSCIOUSWRITE #subconciousplight #THEBSCOMESTOLIGHT #NORIGHTS #hesinamuchbetterplace #WITHHISMOM #christhegifted

Fathers DAY MESSAGE
The meaning of Father is one who takes the family and individuals in the family further especially the sons. The father is both protector, provider and maintainer of the family. Today in a society that deals with individuality the role of the father is becoming almost extinct especially in the black family. The statistics indicate that over 50 per cent of black families are headed by a female which causes many of the social ills that has affected our communities and continues to affect our communities. Even in cases that the father is present it is as if he is not there, he almost becomes the invisible man within the confines of his household and his family. The Willie Lynch syndrome has made the black woman more aggressive because she was put in a role on the plantation to protect the black man because the so called “slave master was always plotting to destroy the black man. For those readers who read the Bible, Pharoahs decree a law to kill all the boy babies and spare the female and in present society he is still killing the black man through the many killings we are witnessing with the latest being George Floyd out of Minnesota. Unfortunately, there have been many George Floyds. Along with the mass murders, now through the chemicalization of foods and drug, Pharoah is effeminizing the black man causing more separation within the nuclear family. Yet with all these conditions and there are others such as domestic violence, abandonment of children, massive incarceration, massive unemployment, and massive disenfranchisement, black men who have the will continue to take on the role of Father and raising their children, protecting and respecting his wife and his daughters. The father in the black community is unique and necessary to ensure a decent, safe, nurturing, spiritual environment to ensure that the cycle of fatherhood continues. Min Ralph Muhammad
Spring 1978 in West Baltimore, 10 year old me started walking back home after watching the baseball game over in the Ellamont Road Alley. I didn’t play, I cheered from the sidelines, this is not my sport at all! Give me football!! The neighborhood was up with the usual Saturday afternoon sounds, buzzing vacuum cleaners, pots and pans clinking, parents fussing at their kids to get their chores done or, “no outside” for them, and the staple, the constant, the go-to for keeping us moving while getting the chores done, Music. Music pouring through windows; funk, gospel, old standards. There goes Chrissy singing to A Star is Born, again. She had me practicing with her most of last week. A DJ spoke his intro to this new artist, “Prince, with Soft and Wet”. What the hell is soft and wet but bread when you’re making French toast, yuck. I heard a sigh, a faint breath exhaled?; did he say “Hi”?! This was a whole different sound coming from the instruments and that voice, high and cute, 10 year old girl cute. All of it drew me in and held me. Hold up, I slowed down to listen for the houses that were playing the new song by Prince. Man it was coming from almost every direction. The only prince I knew of was Prince Valiant. “Hey, lover, sugar don’t you see? There’s so many things that you do to me,” Hey, Okay he kept my attention. I didn’t see but I was intrigued; I bent the corner to my block and Prince was still singing and I started dancing, see, this was tight, and round at times in just the right places and his sighs, gasp and swoon, clutching my pearls! This was right up my alley, pun intended! I am strutting up the first two flights of steps outside my building, stop and dance on the landing, which is also my stage, where my friends and I make up dances and have singing contests, all those things. I glanced up and over to my right to see if Greg was on his balcony, nope, not there; he’s cute like this song. I dance up the next flight, through the 2 doors and up the last two mini flights of stairs to our apartment. I had not heard anything like this before. Now, know this too, I was into the bands playing funk, northern soul crooners, TSOP, disco, soft rock, so this was fun, refreshing, just like the breeze blowing outside, pollen filled and all, like the birds singing and it was funky-quirky too! Prince. Soft and Wet, huh? I liked what he’s saying, ooooooo, I shouldn’t have, should I? I got my recorder and my cassette tapes out, camped them in front of my radio and waited to hear it again. It didn’t matter if it took the rest of the day and night! I had to listen to it some more. My 16#PRN first eargasm...Rest In Melodies and Rhythms -Lisa Brooks

I started shooting as a serious hobbyist while in the Air Force stationed in Texas in 2004. My business and niche of shooting events and celebrities really took off once I moved to Georgia in 2006. The reason for the Men’s shoots grew from the recent Black Men Smiles campaign . I wanted to find a way to show positive images of black men. But still allowed them to let their personality shine through. Photography is my passion and I like to use it to show the world the way I see it one picture at a time.

The most well known fashion accessory is of course, jewellery. For teenagers and children, fashion jewelry pieces that are popular often include colourful, oversized pieces, as well as charm necklaces or charm bracelets. For men, a popular piece of jewellery often includes large pendant necklaces, many of which display a cross or another popular or meaningful symbol. As for women, popular pieces of fashion jewelry include watches, earnings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins, and so forth. Another major fashion accessory that you might want to look at is a new handbag. While purses can also be trendy, it is the handbag that has become a real status symbol and major fashion accessory. They come in a huge array of different styles so it is common to own more than one if your budget allows. In fact, many women out there like to match their fashion accessories, including their purses and handbags, with the clothing that they wear. THE ANSWER TO ENDING SCHOOL VIOLENCE THE ANSWER TO ENDING SCHOOL SHOOTINGS With the increasing school shootings coupled with fatalities, there has been increasing talk of the need for gun control. At the time of this article, the United States has reached a count of 23 reported school shootings for 2018 with the last one reported for May 25, 2018 in Noblesville, Indiana at Noblesville West Middle School. As our society searches for an answer to ending these tragedies (and whether gun control is the answer), it’s important to look at when these occurrences began. The infamous Columbine shootings of 1999 have been credited with influencing subsequent school shootings. However, the massacre that inspired the making of movies as well as songs about one of the victims, Cassie Bernall, was not the first school shooting or school massacre. The New York Times probably reported the first campus massacre that took place on August 1, 1966 in AUSTIN, Texas. A 25-year-old engineering student, Charles Whitman, carried an arsenal of weapons to the top of the 27-story tower on the University of Texas campus and shot 12 people to death and wounded approximately 33 others before the police killed him. He was stated to be an ex-Marine. It might be of some significance to know that he left notes after he murdered his mother and wife (one with each of their bodies). These murders preceded his massacre on the college campus. These notes indicated he had questions about his mental state. A quote of interest from those letters is, “I imagine it appears that I brutally killed both of my loved ones. I was only trying to do a quick thorough job...If my life insurance policy is valid please pay off my debts...donate the rest anonymously to a mental health foundation. Maybe research can prevent further tragedies of this type...” He requested that an autopsy be performed on his body after his death for any abnormalities. Findings also show that there was a report of a massacre that took place in 1976. The California State University, Fullerton massacre resulted in seven deaths and two injuries. Most people may not realize that the United States has a long history of reported school shootings dating back to the 1800s and the occurrences weren’t so infrequent as some might think. Some incidents resulted in deaths, while some only resulted in injuries. In other cases, there were no tragedies. It’s interesting to note that with recent discussions regarding arming teachers or other school officials, some of the murders in early history were committed by school personnel. One such example took place on February 6, 1864. The Ashland Times reported that George W. Longfelt, the school teacher of the Pyfer’s School House, near Ashland County in Ohio, shot and killed a student, Alfred Desem, at the school house and escaped. At the time of the report there was no information given for the cause of the murder. There have been reported cases of self-defense claims by school officials. The Los Angeles Herald reported an account that took place on September 11, 1909 in Gravette, Arkansas, at the edge of McDonald County, Missouri. A. T. Kelly reportedly killed his student, John Bufram, at Bear Hollow School. Claims were made that Butram announced that school would not be in session that day to other students, but Kelly insisted that school would continue as usual. During the discussion Butram pulled a knife and reportedly injured two teachers; Kelly shot him. Kelly surrendered to authorities. Another self-defense incident took place in 1918 at a dormitory in Jefferson City, MO. However, this tragedy took place between two school officials who were arguing over which dishes to use for a social (see The Kansas City Sun, Volume 10, Number 32).
Some children have always managed to have access to a gun. There are repeated cases in early history where students were playing with a gun and it accidently fired or another student purposely brought a gun to school and murdered another because they were arguing over a girl. Bullying has also been the cause for school shootings. The Richmond, Virginia Daily Dispatch reported that on January 21, 1860, a son of Colonel Elijah Sebree, of Todd County, Kentucky, was killed by another student at a school house in Trenton, TN. Some boys made another student believe that son Sebree was threatening him and intended to kill him; it was a joke. However, the other student didn’t know it was a joke. This day the assumed victimized student took possession of a gun, walked up to Sebree in the schoolhouse and shot him. It’s been stated that the Columbine shootings redefined the actions that took place April 20, 1999 as more than a statement of revenge. It was stated to be a means of protest for bullying, intimidation, social isolation, and public rituals of humiliation. Perhaps perpetrators in subsequent school shootings romanticized the 1999 mission. Findings show that the school shootings that occur today due to tempers, accidents, mental illness, revenge, and other reasons known and unknown, are a repeat of what has occurred for centuries. Perhaps Columbine has just brought all 21st century school shootings to the forefront regardless of the weight of their tragedies because of our increase in knowledge—more media, internet, and smart phones. With all this knowledge we are still divided on the answer to ending the school tragedies. Researched and written by: Charlotte R. Beard Writing Services by Char

SWIMSUIT SEASON IS HERE!
Swimsuit season is here and I’m just a little bit excited about it. I have NEVER been excited about swimsuits as much as I am this season……. WHY??? Because there is SO MUCH out there right now that I LOVE! I have a lot coming your way that COVER and are CUTE and that YOU should be EXCITED about too! THIS one and here, are from JCrew. I spotted it a couple of weeks ago and LOVED the covered top, and of course the colorful stripes! The bottoms come to my waist, but remember I’m very short waisted. These will not come up quite as high for a more normal sized girl. STILL CUTE though! The back scoops out so there is some skin, but it’s in the back and not the front, which I like that! It comes with a top, but I would never wear it so I didn’t get. The top I’m wearing here, doesn’t have a bra in it, so you’re best bet I think is to wear something like this with it! JCrew has some ADORABLE stuff right now. I have this one coming but am going to send the top back because it just doesn’t cover as much as I want. It would look great on a flatter chested girl!
Swimsuit shopping can be SO STRESSFUL! EVERY girl I think feels the same! My favorite coverup for swim attire are cut-off denim shorts! I just think they are easy, not fussy, and great for a boat! I love this suit and the punchy floral with the cut-off denim! Below are some cute denim options.
LimeRicki is another brand that I’ve worn a lot of. Their line this season IS SO DANG CUTE too! They have a lot of that new rusty brown color I’ve been loving recently! Take a LOOK! Forget Blue Whale Challenge, cyber bullying is more common danger for your kid Tanya grew up in a Mumbai suburb, like any normal teenager. Unknown to her, a classmate from a previous school had started collecting information and pictures of her since they were 12. The information was then used to make a fake Facebook page, and was shown as if Tanya had posted them herself. Tanya had read about cyber bullying, but had never expected herself to be a victim. She found out about the fake page only through her friends. Even though the bullying seemed benign in the beginning, soon schoolmates started sending her crude messages and she became isolated from her friends circle. She withdrew to herself, rarely going out, and became depressed. The bullying then got so bad that she had to go for counseling and change schools to start afresh. Having grown up around gadgets, children rely heavily on them to carry out everyday tasks. They also form their social persona around social media and depend on thes .. In an Ipsos survey in 2014, India topped the list of 254 countries for cyber bullying. 32% of parents surveyed in India said their children experienced cyber bullying, followed by Brazil (20%), Saudi Arabia (18%), Canada (18%) and the United States (15%). Parents in India also reported the greatest intensity of cyber bullying. 13% said a child in their home experiences cyber bullying on a regular basis, followed by 10% in Brazil, 5% in the United States and 5% in Argentina. The frequency of cyber bullying in India was found to be higher than in the U.S. (15% of children), U.K. (11% of children) and France (5% of children). According to a Microsoft study of online bullying among youth 8-17 years old, children in India reported the third highest online bullying rate among the 25 countries surveyed. Presidential candidate Joe Biden has demanded justice over the killing of an unarmed black man in the US state of Georgia. Mr Biden said his heart went out to the family of Ahmaud Arbery. Mr Arbery, 25, was jogging in February when confronted by an ex-policeman and his son. Video purported to show the shooting emerged online on Tuesday. A district attorney in Georgia has now ruled that a grand jury should decide whether charges should be brought. An earlier decision by a prosecutor in the Brunswick jurisdiction argued there was no probable cause to arrest Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis, 34. More than 100 people took part in a protest in Brunswick on Tuesday night, demanding justice for Mr Arbery.
