Valentino’s Spring 2019 haute couture show just ended with a pleasant surprise: a closing walk by Naomi Campbell. The runway legend made an unexpected appearance on the catwalk in Paris, emerging in a Pierpaolo Piccioli-designed sheer black gown with voluminous sleeves and a tiered ruffle skirt.

Hello Aspiring Model’s, Our focus and topic is on the Male Model which is often not highlighted as much as the Female Model. Question’s has been asked about becoming a successful Male Runway Model. Topic: How to become a Professional Male Runway Model? Male Runway Modeling is simply yet tricky, it’s a very different walk from a female walk such as where the female sway’s the hip’s and the male model doesn’t. It’s a more straight posture, relaxed & confidence look and walk, this will require training from a professional. Physical requirement’s are usually between height 6’0 and 6’2 tall, chest 38’ to 40’ , waist 30’ to 32’in. , in good health, good muscle definition, not to muscular unless you are a fit male model. When walking never look down , instead look out at the audience into a particular imaginary area , never make eye contact. Take long strides, let arm’s swing naturally along your side. Keep your mouth natural. Alway’s practice good posture, keep body straight ( walk tall) with shoulder’s back. Remember never to look robotic ( Lol). Get more involved and lot’s of exposure, training & professional photo’s. Remember there are just as many opportunitie’s out there for a Male Model as there are for a Female Model. If using tofu or banana whir in a food processor or blender until smooth and creamy. • Fold whipped cream or tofu or banana into mango puree, using a knife to swirl in a marbled effect. WOMENS SPORTS BY J. CLARK When it comes to the game of basketball it saved my life at an early age. I’ve been in love with game since I was 5 years old. In my city when I was growning up it was Elite players that I got to see blossom with my own eyes. Not only for men’s basketball but also women’s basketball. I seen players like Khalid El-Amin who played at UConn and won a National championship in 1999. He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2000. I also seen players like Tamara Moore who played at Wisconsin and she was drafted by Miami Sol in 2002. I feel like women don’t get as much respect in the game of basketball as we do and that has to change. When I would watch Tamara Moore and Mari Horton as a kid in my hometown MPLS, MN. I was always saying that, those two girls are different and they are going to be big time one day. That’s exactly what happened, Mari went to Rutgers University and was a leading scorer. We know the rest on Tamara Moore , long story short they were both beast and the world got to witness it. WNBA players need to get paid more money I truly think. It’s going to start with everyone speaking up and not just women. We need a change and the time is NOW! 34

ICONIQUE MAGAZINE JANUARY 2019 EDITION National Poetry Month National Poetry Month was established in 1996 by The Academy of American Poets. The purpose was to help put poetry on a platform and give it the respect it deserves. While poetry and spoken word have been around for centuries, they have yet to receive the acknowledgment that other components of the artistic world has garnered. It’s true that poets like Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and the more colorful Dr. Seuss have gained notoriety, but poets and poetry as a whole have never been highly respected or given the correct acclaim. Although a large number of spoken word artists travel and share their gifts, none are really compensated in a manner that match their counterparts in the performing arts and aside form Maya Angelou, no other has never really gained a sense of celebrity. Now, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t working. Poets like Georgia Me (who appeared in Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes To Jail”) and Lemon Andersen (who appeared in a number of movies including “The Pianist” and “Inside Man”) have been on their big screen grind. Speaking of Georgia Me, she in 2008 started The Tamika Fest; an annual, weeklong festival that takes place at the end of April in Atlanta, GA. The festival celebrates poetry, spoken word, and For All of your Photography Needs. Conthose workEnt. diligently at keeping the genre All tactwho Secure Photography. Serving relevant. While the festival sees a large number 50 States of attendees who flock from every part of the world the festival, in its 10 year tenure, has yet to be mentioned among other huge festivals like Coachella, SXSW, AfroPunk, and others. Like the Tamika Fest creator, Tamika Harper AKA Georgia Me, others have attempted to place poetry and spoken word in the limelight. Television shows like Def Poetry Jam and Verses & Flow saw temporary success with great alums like M’Reld Green from Chicago; Abyss, Tommy Bottoms, Theresa Songbird, and Queen Sheba all of Atlanta, DDE the Slammer of Indianapolis, and Black Ice of Philly just to name
