Important Tips Take Your Time Allow 1-2 hours for this repair and be patient. Most mistakes are caused by rushing through the steps. Resting time for the adhesive to set will also be required after the repair. Be Gentle Remember that you are handling fragile hardware. Stay Organized Note the placement of screws and small parts as you disassemble the device. Keep screws and small parts from each step separate and laid out on a clean flat surface. Use the included logo magnet to keep screws from rolling away. Use a paperweight to hold your booklet open or follow the flowchart online. Warranty Information We offer a lifetime warranty on any unused component that still has all protective films and stickers attached, or that is not functioning properly. You have waived the option for professional repair by attempting this on your own, therefore accepting responsibility for the outcome. The Apple warranty is void when the device is damaged, but further opening the device will void any supplemental insurance you may have purchased. 1
Apply Heat & Insert iSesmo
Heat Tool
iSesamo
Moving in a circular motion around the frame, heat the right side of the digitizer using the hot air gun or hair dryer. Once the glass reaches a temperature between 100째 and 120째 the adhesive will begin to loosen. In the lower right corner of the iPad, insert your iSesamo between the plastic bezel and glass. Note: Keep your heat gun or hair dryer ready as the digitizer will continue to cool. Frequently applying heat will keep the adhesive loose and allow removal of the digitizer assembly.

Heat, Twist, and Lift Removal
Heat Tool
iSesamo
Guitar Pick
Using the iSesamo or metal spudger, start along the lower right corner of the iPad to heat, twist, and lift the glass. Once you have an opening, insert a guitar pick to prevent the glass from adhering back to the frame. Note: On a badly damaged digitizer, pieces of glass will break off as you start heating and lifting the digitizer. If the LCD is exposed from a badly damaged digitizer DO NOT apply direct heat onto the LCD.

Once a gap is opened, insert the flat end of the nylon spudger between the frame and glass, but only as far as the notch in the spudger will still show. Slowly start moving up toward the upper right corner. About every 2 to 3 inches, insert a guitar pick to prevent the digitizer from adhering back to the frame. Note: Depending on how badly the glass is cracked, you may have to continually insert the iSesamo under various sections of the digitizer.

Frame Inspection
A
Inspect the metal frame for damage, dents, or depressions. Damaged corners will prevent new screens from seating B properly and can cause the glass to break. Most dents in the frame can be flattened with a socket rested against the inside of a dented corner and a small hammer to tap the socket toward the outside. Avoid any damage to the frame by always making your tapping motions outward to avoid accidentally harming internal components. Slightly jagged edges may only require filing with a small metal file. Be careful to keep metal shavings out of the iPad.

19
Remove Adhesive
iPad 2 shown here Spudger
Use the enclosed Adhesive Remover Pad to clear away all of the former screen's adhesive left on the frame. All old adhesive must be thoroughly removed to create a perfect seal between the digitizer and the frame. Remaining adhesive will prevent the digitizer from properly seating. Using the flat edge of the nylon spudger, carefully scrape the adhesive off. Once all adhesive is removed, wipe-down the frame with the included alcohol prep-pads. Watch our accompanying iPad 3 screen/digitizer replacement video on Youtube for complete cleaning tips.

Clean LCD
Reopen the iPad like a book. Ensure that the LCD is clean and free of any dust, dirt, or fingerprints. Keep a soft-bristled brush handy, like a clean cosmetic brush, to quickly and gently brush away any dust before removing protective films. You should still be wearing gloves. Place & Align Digitizer
Lift the left side of the digitizer glass and carefully flip the screen over to the right. Align the side you just flipped (now on the right) to the right edge of the frame as you lay the digitizer down flat. You may still have a gap on the now right edge of the iPad. Use the flat end of the spudger to gently press in a flex cable which may be in the way.
36

step
33
Seal Digitizer
Run your hands up the sides and press the digitizer into place in the frame. The digitizer should fit snuggly. Inspect all edges of the iPad closely to ensure that the glass is resting correctly inside and slightly below frame edge. Once again, test all of the functions of the device as you did in Step 27.

37
step
34
Rest in Frame
Heat Tool
Place the iPad face down on a padded surface and place 5-10 pounds of books on top as a weight for 3 hours. Remove the front protective film and apply even heat to the front surface reaching approximately 100 degrees. Turn the iPad back over face-down and use the books as weight again for several more hours. Note: Applying this steady, even pressure for an extended period of time will ensure a strong adhesive bond so the screen does not separate from the frame over time.
