Immigration Emotional Impact on Students and Families Under Threat of Deportation and Separation This workshop will examine the biopsychosocial impact on children, their families, and their communities when families are under constant threat of deportation or separation from their loved ones. The chronic and acute stress creates a perfect storm for attachment, toxic stress and trauma. As teachers, nurses, school counselors it is important to recognize different forms and severity of childhood adverse experience as a guide to the extent of traumatic stress and damage to the developing child’s brain and how these traumatic experiences induces a sense of intense fear and helplessness in the students we see in our classrooms. This course is aligned with the CPS Framework for Teaching Components 1b, 2a, 2d, 4d, and 4e.
