LANE COLLEGE, Jackson, TN Lane College, founded in 1882 is a private, religious-affiliated, historically black college. It is an associate and baccalaureate granting institution with an enrollment of approximately 1,460 students. Lane employs 200 faculty and staff members. Vice President for Academic Affairs

Major Responsibilities Chief academic officer with oversight of the budget, faculty, institutional research, registrar, veteran affairs, library, academic support centers, Lane Institute, radio and broadcasting stations, fitness center, band, promotion and tenure, hiring, faculty workshops, and faculty orientation. Academic Affairs employees 70 full-time faculty, 10 adjuncts, and 15 staff. Other Responsibilities Provide direction and oversight in the College’s Fifth Year Review, staff liaison for the Academic Affairs Committee on the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Title IX Appeals Committee, served as a member of the college’s fundraising committee for the biennial athletics banquet and annual Founders Day scholarship banquet. Enrollment & registration efficiencies-Directed and coordinated a collaborative team of directors responsible for implementation of a new student information system (CAMS). Pre-term registration increased by approximately twenty-six percent.

Faculty professional development- Developed and launched an annual teaching and learning workshop series for faculty.

Grants- Served on the college’s grant committee which led to a collaborative NSF grant on capacity-building at HBCUs for STEM activities, a FEDEX grant on career pathways, Tennessee Higher Education Commission Veteran Reconnect grant, and a Title III grant for the development of Lane’s Institute (a targeted retention and pedagogy program for first and second year students). Combined total grants in three years $721,252.00.

Internationalization – Led in the application process and reinstitution of the acceptance of international students. Leading to a fifty percent increase in international students.

Student retention- Led in reestablishing the First Year Experience program leading to a ten-year high in fall-to-fall retention rates for first-year students (an increase of nine percentage points).

Student services- Led in the development or expansion of four student services: development of full-time student support center and lab for mathematics and English, development of an Office of Veteran Affairs, and expansion of career services.

Partnerships (local, state, national) – Established the college’s first dual enrollment agreements with high schools in Tennessee and Mississippi. Partnered with local and state agencies for Tennessee Reconnect program for adult students. Partnered with the Tennessee Supreme Court, SCALES project.

Major Responsibilities Lead facilitator for department planning in sociology and criminal justice including curriculum development and review. Responsible for preparing a schedule of classes in consultation with department faculty. Served as chief advisor for students in the majors and had primary responsibility for reviewing degree audits and recommending students for graduation. There were 8 faculty members in sociology and criminal justice. The two departments had the second and third largest numbers of majors of the 16 academic disciplines. Responsibilities also included directing and leading our global outreach programs in 52 different countries, organizing annual regional meetings and biennial international meetings. The Center for Environment & Community Justice, Indianapolis, IN Grants Coordinator 1994 The Center for Environment and Community Justice (CECJ) was a grassroots-based organization dedicated to empowering community members and assisting them in their efforts to decrease the effects of hazardous waste in urban communities. As the grants coordinator, and assistant to the director, I was responsible for identifying project goals and financial plans for CECJ. I also established a database listing potential contacts and environmental groups throughout the US. I corresponded regularly with board members regarding administrative concerns related to CECJ.
