A TOWN OF IDEAS

You can’t finish a city in a day or a lifetime. All you can do is start. Rome was not built in a day but has actually spanned thousands of years. Seaside, on the other hand, has been continually created for 40 years as of 2023.

LIVING IN COLOR

The Life That Dreams Are Made Of

Having a pulse and a heartbeat is evidence of being alive, but living a bold and rich life goes way beyond that. I believe we are all destined to achieve certain things in life from the day we’re born, yet it can be so hard to bring these dreams to fruition. You need to push yourself to reach new heights of excitement, destiny, and fulfillment, which takes a lot of determination and courage. It’s actually a full-time job to live with purpose and meaning, and my aim has been to do just that for most of my life. I believe this approach was a God-given gift—to live life with passion, gusto, and perseverance. We are all different, but most of us have had dreams we don’t pursue for a host of reasons. What is a constant, though, is that you must learn to live outside of your comfort zone to reach them. It’s a risk to actually live like this, as both success and failure can be harder than we can ever imagine.

A fearlessness birthed by a strong faith in God has allowed me to live and experience a life I didn’t think was possible. The experiences, travel, meeting people outside my proverbial circle, building businesses, and loving all of it, no matter how hard, have offered me a life that sometimes feels like a movie. This magazine has been a key to opening many doors that would have otherwise been closed to me, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I did not think I would ever attend a presidential inauguration, cover the opening of a $50 million renovated castle on the outskirts of Dublin, attend New York and London Fashion Weeks, create photo shoots in places from NYC to Ireland, or jet to St. Barth to stay at a fivestar resort, Le Barthélemy, for the feature included in this issue. I have also had the joy of making people’s dreams come true by showcasing them as a cover girl or gent (including my beautiful mother, Marie Ryan, who passed away two years into the life of VIE).

Another dream come true was opening an office near the West Coast of Ireland, where we created

a new magazine entitled Connemara Life and published it for five years. My family has a home in the remote part of Connemara with a rural and stunning mountainous countryside that looks and feels like a scene from Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. On one of our trips there in 2013, when we were looking for office space in the nearby town of Clifden, I saw this magnificent white horse running wild in a field and yelled to her to come over and see me and my husband, Jerry. She was skittish and dirty, but with some coaxing, she gently came to see us and looked at me. It felt like she was piercing my soul. I loved her immediately and wanted her so badly, so I asked Jerry if we could buy her. He looked at me incredulously, as I’d seen many times before, but he acquiesced, and I loved him for that and will be forever grateful. He granted me my childhood dream of owning a horse, and I love this regal white pony to this day. Gentle Meg became our Ireland office mascot—but please don’t tell our Stateside mascot, Sucre Burwell (an adorable but feisty Chihuahua-Pekingese mix), or she won’t talk to us any longer.

It has taken me a very long time to understand how much I’ve been given along this journey, as it’s been an arduous one with many ups and downs along the way. But it changed me, tempered me, grew me, and gave me life—one that I feel was part of my destiny. I am able to share people’s dreams, stories, and creations while getting to know and love them.

My definition of living a luxurious lifestyle is not having expensive things— although they are very nice, of course, and who doesn’t want them? But a truly rich life brings joy and happiness that money cannot buy.

—To Life!

Lisa Marie Burwell with her Connemara pony, Gentle Meg

IN THIS ISSUE, WE ASKED THE CREATIVES: WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM POP-UP OR COLLABORATION FOR YOUR BRAND?

Founder of Lovelace Interiors

@lovelaceinteriors

@susan_lovelace_asid_ncidq

I love pop-ups. I would handpick from certain favorite lines we carry at Lovelace Interiors: fabulous martini and wine glasses, beautiful candles with a divine aroma, beautiful designer pillows in shades of pleasing colors, coverlets and bedding, and lighting that enhances your home’s interior. Of course, there would be VIE magazines and books in my pop-up. Lots of current art objects would make it unique.

a beautiful, distinct way of depicting things that aligns with my personal aesthetic. On top of that, she has also collaborated with fashion brands I look up to, including Jean Paul Gautier and Blumarine. Everything she touches is beautiful. Working with her to shoot content for one of my collections would be a dream.

Founder of The Clearly Collective @theclearlycollective @clearly_its_cleary

My dream collaboration would be an experiential dinner party with a luxury champagne company, like Dom Perignon or Moët. I envision it on the stunning coast of France, outdoors and candlelit, near their vineyard. I could create a meaningful textile design that speaks to every element of their brand and production process, covering everything from the pillows and napkins to the tablecloths and tent fabric. Each guest would also receive a customized silk scarf, allowing them to uniquely style and wear it to the dinner party, creating a truly memorable experience they could then bring home with them. It would be a night of celebration, history, and design.

Founder of Arreis Studios

@arreis.studios @sierr6nichole

My dream collaborator would be Petra Collins, a photographer and art director whose work has inspired me for years. She is best known for her countless Vogue covers and shoots for other popular magazines. Collins stays in the center of all things pop culture, from directing music videos for Olivia Rodrigo to internet-breaking shoots of everyone’s favorite “it girls.” She has

OF COURSE, THERE WOULD BE VIE MAGAZINES AND BOOKS IN MY POP-UP.

Founder of Reshelled Jewelry @reshelledjewelry @jessiejtaylor

I’m going to answer both of these because I think about this often. My ideal pop-up location would be Eden Roc or an adjacent hotel in Saint Barth. I know the jewelry would be a hit in that environment. My dream collaboration has always been with Monday Swimwear. The founders are role models of mine, and I respect the brand they’ve built—specifically its longevity while staying current. I’ve featured their swimwear in several shoots, and it perfectly complements the Reshelled collection. Lastly, I’ve been dying to have Rachel Barnes (@rocky_barnes) wear Reshelled. She’s my current dream influencer collab.

Living Life

to the Fullest

It’s been sai d, “There’s something about the outsi de of a horse that is good for the insi de of a man. ” (In this case, a woman.)

eet Susan Lovelace, a remarkable tastemaker, interior designer, and mother of six boys in a blended family with her late husband, Dewitt “Sparky” Lovelace. She is a visionary, entrepreneur, and a passionate lover of all things equestrian. Winston Churchill has often been attributed to this quote, which resonates with those living the equestrian life as well as those watching from afar. The grace and power horses possess are symbolic in battles, representing glory and honor when gathered in numbers.

What do Frank Sinatra, Justin Timberlake (JT), Dierks Bentley, and Tim McGraw have in common? They all reside together in a luxurious barn fit for royalty at the 135-acre Double S Farm, affectionately called Nirvana, located on the outskirts of DeFuniak Springs, Florida. Susan is a joyful person

who embraces life with enthusiasm, turning it into an art form. Unsurprisingly, she has named her horses, donkeys, cats, and chickens after some of her favorite entertainers. Most of them bear the names of her favorite crooners, like the legend himself, Frank Sinatra—Ol’ Blue Eyes—an American Paint Horse, striking with his piercing blue eyes, standing tall and dignified. He knows how handsome he is.

Susan used to ride her beloved Frank Sinatra in the show ring for the hunter-jumper sport until he got injured, requiring several surgeries to nurse him back to health. “It was a miracle he was able to heal, and that horse saved my life,” says Susan. This incident deepened her passion for horses, and she began training in various equestrian disciplines, starting with Show Jumping. She also trained rigorously four days a week in multiple styles: Dressage, a discipline

that emphasizes the harmonious development of the horse through a variety of movements; Western, a style of horseback riding that evolved from the working cattle horses of the American West; and Reining, a western riding competition for horses. Her partner, Rueben Murphy, is a professional cutter, and their shared love for these creatures makes them a perfect match.

Before purchasing Double S Farm in 2012, Susan owned ten horses, three of which had to be boarded for half the year in Colorado, where she and her late husband split their time. The first was Belle, a beautiful American Quarter Horse who lives on the farm today. One of her favorite horses was a seventeen-hand Irish sports horse named Waldadear. “I fell off him and ended up in a wheelchair for eight weeks with a compression fracture,” says Susan. “I got back on him, and he threw me off again,” she continues, a testament to her resilience. “So, I had to sell him. He was too much horse for me,” Susan laments, shaking her head.

Immediately beyond the gates, the farm is an awe-inspiring sight. We lost our phone signal on the morning of our cover feature photo shoot. We didn’t have the code to enter, so I hopped the fence and walked about a quarter mile while marveling at a perfectly manicured spread of unobstructed greenery before seeing the

beautiful southern wraparound porch of a sprawling single-story ranch-style home. There’s also a stunning barn and a guest house overlooking a large lake with two fountains. “We harvest about thirty-five acres of hay each year, with fifty acres cleared for pasture. We also mow five acres each week during the summer months. And the remaining sixty acres are used for hunting, complete with riding trails,” Susan notes confidently. “It’s my slice of heaven!”

The boho-chic barn, with chandeliers and oriental rugs over a brick floor, features an air-conditioned bar, a bath, a laundry room, and a tack room with cats, horses, and roaming chickens. Susan shares, “We added a cooking porch at the barn with a covered area, and this is my happy place.”

‘If I only knew back then that buying a horse was the least expensive thing about owning a horse!’ she reminisces with a big smile. ‘But I wouldn’t change a thing.’

Double S Farm is an elevated Gentleman’s Farm that has been Susu-fied. “Susu-fied” is a term Susan uses to describe her unique style and influence on the farm. Once Susan gets her hands on something, she dresses it up to the nines with a feminine touch. She loves to inspire women and show them how to enjoy themselves, even as they age. She believes life is like a waltz—you have to lead the dance. She wanted to be a designer, so she became a licensed interior designer and opened her firm, Lovelace Interiors, over thirty years ago.

“Women mean the world to me,” says Susan. “Don’t give up just because you’re getting older. Never, ever, ever give up!” This message of empowerment and resilience is a testament to Susan’s love and respect for women, making them feel appreciated and valued.

IN THE TURKS AND CAICOS

AMANYARA ULTIMATE LUXURY

A symphony of birdsong, gentle water sounds, and a soft breeze embraced us as we stepped onto the enchanting grounds of the perfectly named Amanyara resort. Meaning “peaceful place” in Sanskrit and Arawak Indian, Amanyara is so tranquil, stunning, and secluded it almost doesn’t feel real. Multiple smiling faces were waiting as we approached, their uniforms and calming demeanor perfectly matching the resort’s environment. “Welcome to Amanyara!” they greeted us in unison. That warmth echoed in our ears as we were handed a refreshing wellness cocktail. I glanced around, pinching myself to ensure it was all real. My trip to Amanyara, a dreamy sanctuary within an eighteen-thousand-acre nature reserve on the Turks and Caicos Islands, accompanied by my coworker Sally Neal, turned out to be a blissful escape unlike anything I have experienced. Sharing the details of this luxurious stay makes us yearn to return.

Descending into Providenciales airport, we were greeted by breathtaking views of crystal-clear waters shimmering in vibrant hues and mesmerizing reefs waving hello. A private driver whisked us away, gliding down a winding road that left behind bustling hotels and busy streets. The journey through lush

greenery on a desolate white desert road led to the secluded villas and pavilions of Amanyara.

Buzzing with excitement, we marveled at the stunning landscape as our driver pulled into the welcoming area. The Amanyara team greeted us, making us feel like the only people at the resort, then swiftly whisked away our bags to prepare the room for our arrival. Sipping on our delightful welcome drink, we were led on a brief property tour. The end of it brought us down a sandy path until we arrived for lunch at the Beach Club, Amanyara’s seaside restaurant, boasting stunning views of turquoise waters sparkling in the sunlight.

Lunch was served with delicious Amanyara signature cocktails, each sip and bite showcasing the freshness and flavor of meticulously curated ingredients. After a leisurely stroll along the beach, we soaked in the mesmerizing views and whispered to each other, “I can’t believe we are here!”

“MEANING ‘PEACEFUL PLACE’ IN SANSKRIT AND ARAWAK INDIAN, AMANYARA IS SO TRANQUIL, STUNNING, AND SECLUDED IT ALMOST DOESN’T FEEL REAL.”

After lunch, a golf cart picked us up—villas and pavilions are just a short bike or golf cart ride from the main resort amenities. The Ocean Pavilion, our private sanctuary, featured a king bed canopy and windows offering views of our private water area. The rocky beach provided a perfect setting for waves to crash gently, creating a soothing sound that enhanced the serene atmosphere. The seclusion of the bungalow further made us feel like the only people at the property or maybe even the only people in the world.

Amanyara’s fifty-meter swimming pool offers clear and sweeping views of the sea.
Above: The Arrival Pavilion at Amanyara

A bottle of champagne, sweet treats, and a handwritten note awaited us in our pavilion. We popped the bottle, sharing our excitement for the days ahead. Feeling cheerful, we rode bikes to The Bar, the resort’s striking centerpiece with Brazilian teak ceilings and 360-degree views. Cocktails flowed as freely as the conversation, and the bartenders whipped up drinks for the few guests inside the circular bar and those enjoying the pool terrace. Although we were told the resort was almost at capacity, no matter where we went, we only bumped into two or three other couples. After savoring a freshly blended mojito, Sally and I walked along the tranquility pond to The Restaurant for dinner with sea views and exquisite cuisine. We opted for the Chef’s Moriawase Sushi and the Fish in Banana Leaf—a perfect end to our day.

The bright blue water shimmered even more brilliantly as the sun rose, painting the sky in pinks and oranges. Coffee delivered to our pavilion allowed us to soak in the stunning sky and crashing waves without leaving the comfort of our room. Our

“A SYMPHONY OF BIRDSONG, GENTLE WATER SOUNDS, AND A SOFT BREEZE EMBRACED US AS WE STEPPED ONTO THE ENCHANTING GROUNDS OF THE PERFECTLY NAMED AMANYARA RESORT.”

itinerary included a trip to Amanyara’s spa, so we headed to breakfast to fuel up. Fresh green smoothies and omelets filled our plates as we read the Amanyara newspaper, which included daily happenings, weather, events, news, stories, and a crossword puzzle.

A brief bike ride through lush greenery led us to the Aman Spa at Amanyara. Overlooking a large pond, the Spa exuded even more tranquility and serenity than the rest of the resort, a feat that seems nearly impossible. With four double treatment pavilions, a spa boutique, a wellness studio, a yoga sala, relaxation areas, an aqua therapeutic pool, and sun loungers, the offerings and space are truly unparalleled. The spa concept, carefully curated with four pillars of wellness in mind—nutrition, movement, psychological health, and bodywork—aims to achieve Integrated Holistic Wellness for every guest.

Upon entering the Spa, Amanyara’s resident wellness specialist, Aga Niestoj, guided me to a covered pavilion next to the pond and pool for a guided meditation. Her expertise led me to a deep state of relaxation, further than I ever thought possible as a beginner in meditation. Following this mindfulness session, Aga took me to a pavilion for the Amanyara signature massage. Using aromatherapy oils, the massage therapist tailored the treatment to my needs. The Spa is a necessary part of the Amanyara experience, welcoming world-leading experts for dedicated wellness programs, including masters of therapeutic bodywork, sports therapists, stress-management coaches, and professors of mindfulness and meditation. Tea and cookies were served as we exited our massages, and Aga offered a warm farewell.

Another brief bike ride led us to the beach, where the staff set up towels and chairs and shared menus with food and drink offerings. We waded into the water, enjoying snorkeling, paddleboards, kayaks, and Hobie Cats—all accessible from Amanyara’s beach. For the kiddos, a world-class Kid’s Club is on the way to the shore. Other experiences include horseback riding, clubhouse tennis, golf, house reef snorkeling, kite safaris, kiteboarding, diving, eco-tours, cooking classes, movie nights, yacht charters, and more.

The unbeatable view from the Artist Villa at Amanyara
“THESE ACCOMMODATIONS ARE GRAND AND JAWDROPPING, WITH EVERY DETAIL CAREFULLY CONSIDERED.”

While we thoroughly enjoyed our Ocean Pavilion, it’s just the start of the available accommodations at the resort. The Villas are the largest, perfect for retreats, family gatherings, or friendly hangouts. Each room in these villas is separate, creating a private and comfortable setting for everyone, with shared hangout spaces. Some come with pools, water views, and even a Villa chef and host. These accommodations are grand and jaw-dropping, with every detail carefully considered.

For meetings and special events at Amanyara, there is a venue to suit every occasion. A dedicated team can oversee even the smallest details, allowing you to relax before even stepping foot on the property.

As we bid adieu to the dreamiest resort, we added other Aman properties to our travel list. The luxury brand currently encompasses thirty-five hotels, resorts, and residence developments across twenty countries, each more beautiful than the last. As a final treat, the Amanyara team waved goodbye, sending us off with chocolates from four of these Aman properties worldwide.

Amanyara, we’ll be dreaming about you.

PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF LE BARTHÉLEMY

aving lived in a Florida town with a well-healed populace for several decades, we have enjoyed meeting individuals who have visited or frequently visited St. Barth. The island's affluent population and the moniker “Billionaires Island” have always piqued our interest. However, due to various reasons, we never had the chance to explore it. Recently, VIE was extended a rare and exclusive opportunity to preview the five-star Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa at this glamorous Caribbean destination, an opportunity we eagerly embraced.

Located on a perfect crescent-shaped, white-sand beach along St. Barth’s famed Grand Cul de Sac, the award-winning Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa envelops guests in its philosophy of “human-centered, couture hospitality.”

t St. Barth’s infamous Gustaf III airport, the hotel’s driver, Antoine, happily loaded our bags and whisked us off to our final destination. Stocked with refreshing sparkling water infused with exotic island citrus and fruit flavors, the comfortable Mercedes-Benz family-mover was the perfect start to shed the day’s travel anxiety. The less than ten-minute drive passed in a blink while we got acquainted with Antoine, a French native. He shared that much of the island’s hospitality workforce is French, hailing from mainland France or another French colony similar to St. Barth.

Upon our arrival at the five-star Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa, we were greeted with first-class service. The staff we encountered were attentive, polite, and exuded friendly professionalism. Clad

in chino shorts and polo shirts, they made us feel welcome. It's no surprise that the resort has been recognized as one of the top five best resorts by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for seven years. The check-in process was smooth and effortless, setting the tone for a relaxing stay.

Our suite was a two-story beachfront paradise, offering a stunning view of a crescent-shaped cove, which would be our sanctuary for the next three days. There was a serving tray with a welcome card, a pair of French pastries, and a bottle of Leclerc Briant Réserve Brut. Although we usually prefer Prosecco over Champagne, we decided to try it. With the soft evening sun, we popped the bottle and poured our glasses before heading to the beach. Just steps away from our private deck, we sat on the high-water line, dipping our toes into the Caribbean and taking in our beautiful surroundings. A couple dozen small to modest-sized fishing boats were moored near the water’s edge, and the hotel beach had relatively

calm waves, thanks to the two peninsulas and reef at the mouth of the cove. It was perfect. As the sun set below the horizon, we raised our glasses and expressed gratitude for our safe travels that day, the incredible adventure we were having, and for each other. Wow! (Oh, and the Champagne was the best we've ever had.)

The spa features four treatment rooms designed to provide the ultimate relaxation experience. Getting to St. Barth

When traveling to St. Barth, planning your flights carefully is essential. If flights are not properly planned, you may have an unexpected overnight stay in one of the feeder hubs, which can be inconvenient. If you are flying commercially, you can’t fly directly to St. Barth from the continental U.S. Instead, you’ll need to stop at the primary feeder hubs, San Juan, Puerto Rico, or the island of St. Martin, with St. Martin having more than a thousand monthly flights to St. Barth. There are around a dozen major U.S. hubs with non-stop flights to/from St. Martin, taking about three to five hours, but generally, it takes at least one stop from

anywhere in the continental U.S., which can take anywhere from six to twelve hours. Consider using an airport concierge or VIP service to ensure a smooth and quick transfer at the island airports. You can check with the Le Barthélemy concierge for a recommended service.

For those fortunate enough to have the means to fly privately, it’s worth noting that the 2,100-foot runway is too short for most small jets. Consequently, you may have to park your jet in St. Martin. Typically, only prop planes with fewer than twenty passengers can land at the St. Barth airport. Pilots must hold a special certification due to the airport’s proximity to roads, hills, and the sea. The St. Barth airport presents extreme challenges, so be prepared for an exhilarating landing experience unlike any you have ever had before.

Poetically situated upon a sixty-acre quartz mountain overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean, The Retreat Costa Rica invites you to slow your pace and reconnect with your most radiant self.

Here, luxury encompasses a dual meaning. Expect modern amenities (this isn’t your “eco-chic” hotel) and a guest-centric experience among the luxurious, rich backdrop of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. Designed to help the body to internally reset, this intimate experience allows guests to release the stress and expectations of everyday life. The Retreat

offers a variety of results-driven packages focusing on every area of wellness to aid in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual renewal.

Each room offers a new perspective, from views of the mountains to the glimmer of the Pacific Ocean in the distance. Some layouts offer generous balconies and hanging chair swings, while others boast floor-to-ceiling windows and a desk area. Guests looking to enrich their experience should book one of the six new Luxury Lofts. Even the resort’s design and architectural layout have been aligned with feng shui principles to ensure each of the five key elements (wood, fire, earth, water, and metal) is present in each building on the property. Every interior detail is thoughtful and aligned with the greater intention of creating a healing guest experience. Take the selenite wall hangings, for example. Selenite is a white gypsum mineral that is said to remove obstacles and negative energies, and fine jewelry and crystal art designer Rebecca Norman commissioned each piece.

Living Like ALL YEAR LONG

A CONVERSATION with SOUTHERN HOLIDAY HOMES

This stunning Gulf-front

fter a lifetime of visiting the beautiful Scenic Highway 30-A area in the Florida Panhandle for memorable vacations along the Gulf of Mexico, Ashley and Brandon Youngs decided to escape the frigid Chicago winters for good. The couple bought a house in the area and have been splitting time between Santa Rosa Beach and Knoxville, Tennessee, ever since, where they own and operate several hospitality management companies. Their primary business, Southern Holiday Homes, focuses on luxury homes by the beach along Scenic Highway 30-A.

The couple complement each other not only in their personal lives but also in their businesses. With Ashley’s master’s degree in accounting and background in real estate and Brandon’s experience in hospitality, finance, and marketing, the pair work together to create a family business full of love, fun, and customer satisfaction.

home, “SEA-ing Stars,” is the top-grossing vacation rental under Southern Holiday Homes’ management and is believed to be the top-producing rental in the Florida Panhandle.

VIE : What is your favorite part of living the beach life with your family and owning a business that showcases your lifestyle?

Ashley Youngs: I think it’s the little things. It’s the simplicity of the beach that reminds you to slow down. Things like watching your kids run and catch crabs at the end of the day on the sand, watching the sunset, riding on the golf cart to get an ice cream cone, feeding the turtles at Stinky’s—those little things here will always be my favorite moments! A moment at the beach doesn’t have to be a big production to be special. The beach naturally lends itself to special moments, so having quality time together here is easy.

VIE : What can guests expect when vacationing with Southern Holiday Homes? What do guests love when staying with you?

AY: We have a wonderful guest services team available 24-7 to answer the phone, and they will arrange concierge services. It is a very personalized approach. The experience can be hands-on in terms of meeting guests at the house and showing them around or as hands-off as giving them the door code and check-in instructions via email. It is very customizable regarding our involvement, and people really love our homes.

VIE : As a team offering maintenance, cleaning, property management, reservation specialists, guest experience associates, and more, how do you balance it all? What are some practices that keep the company thriving?

AY: I have a hard time sitting still, so it is fun for me to always have something going on, and we really love it! When you love what you do, it doesn’t feel so much like work. We’re very fortunate that we have really, really wonderful clients who own these homes, and we have become good friends with lots of them. Many have bought and experienced excellent returns, so they have reinvested in the market and bought multiple properties. It definitely takes a village, but Brandon and I are a great team. We complement each other, so it works!

We take a lot of pride in the houses we manage and put so much into them that it has to make sense for our portfolio, our team, and our guests. There is a certain kind of product we want to deliver and a brand standard we maintain, so we can truly keep the experience where we want it to be.

VIE : Tell us about your top-grossing rental. What do you think sets this property apart from others in the area?

AY: It is called SEA-ing Stars! I believe it was the highest-grossing rental in the Florida Panhandle in 2023. The property did over a million dollars in rental revenue, and it is a favorite of celebrities, influencers, corporate retreats, multigenerational family gatherings, reunions, and more. It is an

absolutely one-of-a-kind property that wasn’t initially built to be a rental, but when our client acquired it, renting it was always the plan. This house has next-level finishes, furnishings, views, and things you would not typically get in a rental. It has ten bedrooms, fifty yards of private beach, and is over eight thousand square feet. It is just exceptional.

VIE: What is your number one piece of advice for people looking to buy a home along 30-A?

AY: I think you just have to jump in and do it. So many people think about it and dream about it but then get nervous and never pull the trigger. I think you have to jump in and be ready to ride that wave because it’s such a fun process, and there are so many benefits that come from owning these properties, outside of even the financial benefits. It’s having a place where your family can return to spend time that will be part of core memories.

Partnering with a good management company that aligns with your interests is also very important if you are going to rent out your home. It’s a matter of finding the right fit with a management company, especially one you can trust if you’ll be there only some of the time. You need a management team that will take care of it for you and make sure it’s maintained and loved, just like if you were there.

VIE: What do you look forward to regarding the future of Southern Holiday Homes?

AY: Southern Holiday Homes continues to grow very organically, which has been such a blessing. In the future, we have a lot of exciting things coming that I can’t necessarily talk about yet, but overall we want to expand our presence in the 30-A market. We want to have more involvement in the community and support more programs with bigger things to give back. As you grow, you can provide more, and now we’re able to offer full benefits for our employees, a brick-and-mortar office in Blue Mountain Beach, work vehicles, and all these other things you can’t do when you’re a small business in the beginning, so we are proud of that.

Coming down the pipeline, we have many great partnerships coming up with companies we’re super excited about that will bring more exposure and some really exciting things for our owners and guests, and we are grateful to be in that position.

O SANTA ROSA

Italian THE MONAS T E

The beautiful gardens on the Monastero Santa Rosa property contain over a thousand different plants and flowers.

SINCE SETTING MY SIGHTS ON THE AMALFI COAST OF ITALY IN PHOTOS, IT HAS BEEN MY DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION.

he allure of winding roads, breathtaking views, and charming seaside villages filled my imagination, driving my desire to experience this coastal gem firsthand.

A recent trip to this enchanting region at the Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel and Spa allowed me to check this destination off my bucket list, only to add it right back as a must-do again.

Sitting atop a cliff overlooking the waters of Salerno Bay in Conca dei Marini lies the Monastero Santa Rosa, a former seventeenth-century monastery reborn as a luxurious boutique hotel. Originally conceived by Sister Rosa Pandolfi in 1681, the monastery served as a sanctuary for the “sacred virgins,”

Sister Rosa’s noble lineage and philanthropic spirit guided its construction adjacent to the church of Santa Maria di Grado. Over the years, the nuns significantly contributed to the local community, from funding vital infrastructure to crafting remedies from their garden’s herbs.

Despite enduring the upheavals of time and legal changes, including conversion to municipal property in the late 1800s, the monastery retained its historic significance. In 1924, a Roman hotelier, Mr.

PHOTOGRAPHY COURTESY OF MONASTERO SANTA ROSA

Marcucci, recognized the site’s potential and transformed it into the esteemed Hotel Santa Rosa. For decades, it stood as a beacon of hospitality and tradition until Bianca Sharma, inspired by its majestic ruins, embarked on a decade-long journey to restore the monastery to its former glory.

Today, Monastero Santa Rosa is a testament to Bianca’s dedication and the enduring spirit of Conca dei Marini village. Since its reopening in 2012, guests from around the world can immerse themselves in the monastery’s rich history and unparalleled beauty.

As my best friend and I ascended the winding roads I had long envisioned, each turn heading toward the property seemed to unveil an even more spectacular view. Upon arriving at Monastero Santa Rosa, we were welcomed with refreshing lemon water made from their own gardens (my newfound happy place!) and scented rosemary towels from their wheel—a unique communication method the nuns used to connect with the outside world.

A tour of the grounds wrapped up as we reached our room, passing by original monastery pieces and furnishings in the hallways. Despite having just twenty guest rooms, the place seemed to stretch endlessly, offering stunning views at every turn.

Our room, named “Mentha” (Italian for mint), was among the twenty rooms and suites on the property, each without traditional room numbers out of respect for the former nuns who once occupied them. The Mentha suite treated us to views from the living room, bathroom, and bedroom, each with its own large window overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the bay and the charming town of Amalfi. Throughout our stay, we reveled in the open windows, enjoying the bottle of sparkling rosé we were greeted with, along with delightful treats like Sfogliatella, which seemed to appear in our room like magic each time we opened the door.

spritz and a freshly baked pizza, delivered by the attentive staff who anticipated our every desire. With soft music playing in the background and the warm sun caressing our skin, I felt a sense of pure bliss and relaxation like never before.

Our first day at the hotel began with a leisurely stroll through the tranquil gardens, leading us down to the pool. With over a thousand different plants and flowers, the gardens felt like a magical oasis. We found ourselves drawn to the cozy daybeds and chairs scattered around, the perfect invitation to relax with a good book—which we later did.

The infinity swimming pool, offering bay views that seemed to stretch endlessly across the horizon, provided the perfect backdrop for unwinding with an Aperol

As a complimentary treat, Monastero Santa Rosa offers tea and small bites under a canopy of lush plants with a view overlooking the water, creating the perfect setting for Santa Rosa tea, herbal tea, and biscuit time. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming, with the invitation extended to enjoy it “even in your bathrobe or straight from the Spa or pool!” The staff were exceptionally friendly, guiding us through each treat and drink. We enjoyed refreshing mint tea made with mint plucked from their garden (and we came straight from the pool!).

A stay at Monastero Santa Rosa is incomplete without a visit to the spa. The Spa Suite is an expansive double-height vaulted space featuring

a Rasul, steam room, double wet and dry treatment couches, manicure stations, a relaxation lounge, a private dressing and grooming area, and a serene garden terrace—a true “private spa within a spa.” Guests can also enjoy a spa experience outdoors under the shade of a pergola within the Treatment Garden. Our visit left us in awe as we admired the meticulously preserved original seventeenth-century vaulted ceilings and walls, which beautifully uphold the monastic heritage of this property. I still find myself longing for their steam room and the blissful combination of hot tea and a foot bath afterward.

For dinner, we had the pleasure of dining at Il Refettorio, a Michelin-starred restaurant on the property. The kitchen is as unique as the monastery, offering a well-curated blend of traditional and contemporary Campanian cuisine infused with inspiration from the hotel’s monastic roots.

The staff expertly recommended wine pairings for each course, guiding us through a delightful selection of Italian wines. We kicked off our culinary journey with a table full of bread and unique bites. For my gli antipasti , I savored the Il Crudo a Mano Libera—thinly sliced raw fish of the day served with lemon and wild-herb mayonnaise, seasonal fruit, white wine osmosis, Amalfi dressing, and granita spritz. To say it was a burst of flavors is an understatement!

Next up was my primi piatti—a risotto whisked with Chef Alfonso Crescenzo’s Terre Lavorate tomatoes, accompanied by cuttlefish carpaccio, basil, Sorrento orange zest, and surprisingly, gold flakes on top. My second course featured the Blue Lobster served with sautéed spinach, almond puree, and puffed pork rind—an exquisite combination of flavors and textures. For dessert, I ordered the Le fragole and Champagne, a champagne parfait paired with strawberry cream, buttermilk, and rosemary ice cream. It tasted even better than it looked, a true dream on the palate!

To top off the evening, we were treated to an array of delightful dessert bites, each full of unique flavors—from truffle and pistachio to raspberry and lemon. To cap it all off, the bartender crafted a dessert cocktail for me called the Delizia Amalfitana,

featuring vodka, limoncello, lemon essence, white cream of cacao, and milk cream. He ensured it was tailored to my liking—a perfect end to an incredible dining experience.

During our stay, we couldn’t resist the urge to explore the charming town of Amalfi, its magnetic charm visible from our windows. With a private car service at our disposal courtesy of the hotel, we set out to discover the treasures of this enchanting coastal town. Amalfi welcomed us with its bustling streets, a stark departure from the serene, almost ethereal ambience of Monastero Santa Rosa. We tried local delicacies at quaint trattorias and cafés, chatted it up with the friendly folks around, and soaked in the beautiful views before returning to our hotel.

With a bittersweet feeling, I couldn’t help but acknowledge that when our visit came to a close, memories of the Amalfi Coast and Monastero Santa Rosa would be cherished forever. As I bid farewell to the staff who had become friends and the landscapes that had become my sanctuary, I knew a piece of my heart would forever remain within the hallowed halls of the Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel. In its tranquil gardens and elegant corridors, I discovered a place of luxury and tranquility unlike any other, where history and hospitality converged to create an unforgettable experience that would stay with me long after I returned home.

A Parisian ( Design)

I MARVEL AT THE MURALS OF PEACOCKS, WHICH APPEAR TO FLUTTER IN THE MORNING SUN STREAMING THROUGH LA SAMARITAINE’S GLASS-CAPPED ATRIUM.

o ordinary department store, the listed nineteenth-century monument—which faces the iconic Pont Neuf bridge in Paris—is one of the French capital’s earliest showcases of the art nouveau style.

Shuttered for sixteen years, it underwent a no-expense-spared renovation in 2021 by luxury giant LVMH. Outside, its Rue de Rivoli entrance commands attention thanks to a rippling glass second skin created by Pritzker Architecture Prize-winning studio SANAA from Tokyo. In many ways, La Samaritaine’s past-present juxtaposition is a metaphor for Paris, a city that boldly pushes the boundaries of new design while celebrating its cultural treasures.

I swap La Samaritaine’s swirling wrought iron staircases for a royal chapel’s soaring stained glass windows that reach fifty feet for the heavens! Dubbed

one of the gothic wonders of the medieval world, the eight-hundred-year-old Sainte-Chapelle was built as a shrine for the Crown of Thorns, now kept under lock and key at the Louvre museum. Like stepping into a real-life kaleidoscope, the cathedral’s upper level (reached via a stone spiral staircase) is a sight that soon renders me speechless.

My next Parisian pit stop is proof that fabulous decor needn’t be confined to terra firma. Described as the city’s first floating urban art center, free-toenter Fluctuart is moored on the left bank of the storied Seine River, just opposite the Grand Palais. The converted barge’s first floor is glutted with works by street artists such as Banksy and Invader, aka the anonymous Frenchman behind some 1,500 ceramic tile mosaics across the city.

On the other side of the Seine, another artist is the muse of one of Paris’s newest boutique accommodations in the eighth arrondissement (district). Situated a stylish skip from the chic Champs-Élysées, Hotel Norman is a love letter to the late American graphic designer Norman Ives, who was heavily influenced by the Bauhaus movement.

More akin to a private residence than a hotel, the thirty-seven-key property marks the fourth addition to French hotelier Olivier Bertrand’s family-owned collection. Within minutes of checking in, I’m reviving with an Asian-influenced cocktail in the sultry library/lounge/lobby lined with Ives’s striking typographic prints. The modernist aesthetic extends four floors up to my balconied corner junior suite. A textural and visual delight, the room is outfitted with woolen curtains, a custom-made oak minibar, and a mid-century leather chaise longue perfect for unfurling after a busy day of sightseeing.

Saving a dinner date with the hotel’s Thai-French fusion restaurant for next time, I hail a cab for the westernmost arrondissement (the sixteenth) for a taste of its bistronomy scene. Washed in cognac colors and outfitted with striped

velvet banquettes, Lordy’s Paris Club marries French flair with English flavors on and off the plate. Parisian cutlery rests on oh-soBritish antique knife rests, while the local beer-battered fish and chips main course arrives on French porcelain. The standout starter is the avocado and shrimp with champagne jelly, which I delight in scooping straight out of a martini glass!

A breakfast fit for Marie Antoinette sets me up for a guided tour of the crystal-strung salons, gilded grand foyer, and velvet-swathed auditorium of lavish Le Palais Garnier. The world’s first electrified opera house, the baroque beauty is most famous for being the setting for Broadway’s longestrunning musical, The Phantom of the Opera. Meanwhile, its marble staircase’s bronze salamanders are the inspiration behind the crocodile-shaped confections sold at my next call-in. Opened on the legendary Avenue de l’Opéra in 2022, the striking white-gold interior of attorney-turned-chocolatier Jade Genin’s atelier is as handcrafted as her chocolates. I can’t resist taking a bite out of her signature pyramidions, which recall the golden tip of Paris’ three-thousandyear-old obelisk in Place de la Concorde. Filled with all-natural flavors like Tahitian vanilla and tamarind, the virtuous treats are preservative-, additive-, and aroma-free.

My sweet tooth sated, I follow my nose to another new(ish) address located nearby on Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Founded by Beirut-born musician and filmmaker Rami Mekdachi, Lola James Harper is the scent storyteller’s first boutique which is part perfumery and part gallery. Framed photographs from his family’s fifteen years of globetrotting decorate its walls, and artfully placed glass cloches lift the lid on candles that capture the aroma of a Parisian vinyl store and summer funfairs in Jardin des Tuileries, to name a few.

Trading perfume for pampering, I spend the rest of the afternoon holed up in Paris’s newest subterranean spa. Decorated in soothing greens and sunny yellows, La Fantaisie hotel’s dreamy spa is a far cry from its underground car park beginnings. I flit from the infrared chamber to the starlit hammam, finishing my experience in one of four hydrotherapy pools beautified with a botanical mosaic made from two million tiles. It’s a fitting tribute to the hotel’s Rue Cadet postcode, which takes its name from the local family of market gardeners who supplied the royal court in the 1600s. The natural world inspires everything from the hotel rooms’ whimsical bedside lamps to the chirping bird soundtrack of its elevator, which whisks me seven floors up to its rooftop bar, a maximalist sanctuary imagined by Swedish designer Martin Brudnizki. I savor a “Summer of Love Sour” cocktail beneath the rose-and-candy-stripe-wallpapered ceilings.

A PERSIAN RUG HERE AND A TASSELED CHAIR THERE ADD TO THE ECLECTIC CHARM AND UNDONE ELEGANCE, LENDING A LIVED-IN FEEL TO THE YEAR-OLD PROPERTY.

Floral flourishes also abound (albeit more understated) at my next five-star check-in. Like the nearby Norman, the thirty-seven-room Château des Fleurs claims a coveted corner address. But that’s where the similarities between the sister hotels end. Revived with modern touches, the Haussmannian mansion celebrates Gaudí-esque curves, belle époque detailing, and an altogether more feminine feel. Its lounge-like entrance leads me through to the hotel’s haute Korean restaurant, OMA, anchored by a veined marble, brass, and wooden bar. A Persian rug here and a tasseled chair there add to the eclectic charm and undone elegance, lending a lived-in feel to the year-old property.

FROM ITS PANORAMIC TERRACE, I DRINK IN THE TWINKLING EIFFEL

TOWER, THE AGELESS LATTICEWORK BEAUTY THAT CONTINUES TO HOLD ITS OWN AMID PARIS’S EVOLVING SKYLINE.

Barcelona-based design firm Quintana Partners has also sprinkled its neo-art nouveau stardust on my corner junior suite, a vision in cable-pattern carpets, Murano glass, and vintage furniture. Clad in crimson-and-white tile and boasting an arched walk-in shower, the bathroom is also a thing of beauty. The single biggest indulgence (as I later discover) is being within tap-turning distance of the suite’s clawfoot bath while lying in bed!

Ending my Parisian getaway on a literal high note, I spend my last evening toasting to the City of Light from its loftiest rooftop bar. Crowning the Jean Nouvel-designed leaning twin towers in Paris’s not-so-unlucky thirteenth arrondissement is TOO Hotel’s TacTac Skybar, which bears the stamp of design polymath Philippe Starck. Digital installations make for an ever-changing backdrop to sharing plates of chicken yakitori skewers, salmon-and-crab gyoza, and beef crispy rice, best washed down with Starck’s own brand of beer. From its panoramic terrace, I drink in the twinkling Eiffel Tower, the ageless latticework beauty that continues to hold its own amid Paris’s evolving skyline.

Daily flights to Paris’s Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) are available from most major American airports. Rates start at $390 for a one-night stay at Hotel Norman (HotelNorman.com) and $370 at its sister property, Château des Fleurs (ChateauDesFleurs.paris).

All’s Well in Arizona

A DESERT RETREAT TO REMEMBER

Phoenix was in dire need of a diamond—a property that exceeded the expectations of even the most seasoned luxury traveler and dared to venture beyond overplayed 2000s-era sand-colored decor.

Enter the Global Ambassador: a new luxury hotel envisioned by legendary restaurateur and developer Sam Fox. Recently opened in December 2023, the property shines from start to finish. Primely positioned at the crossroads of Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, The Global Ambassador is only minutes away from scenic hikes in Scottsdale, cafés and shops in North Phoenix, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

nter the Global Ambassador: a new luxury hotel envisioned by legendary restaurateur and developer Sam Fox.

Each of the 141 guest rooms is fixed with the finest design elements and finished with close attention to detail. Fox collaborated with Judith Testani, founder of Scottsdale-based Testani Design Troupe, to execute the highly impressive ambience. Classic European features and artwork are woven through each element of the hotel, sparking a natural sense of cohesion. Beautifully lit marble bathrooms are complete with silver Waterworks finishes. Phillip Jeffries wallpaper, cushy Matouk linens, custom walnut millwork, and creatively stocked minibars set the standard. Byredo Bal d’Afrique body care products line the vanity, leaving you softly kissed with undertones of African marigold and bergamot. Each thoughtful touch builds upon the next, merging comfort and elegance in a space that will quickly feel like a home away from home.

Fox, a twelve-time James Beard Award nominee, ensured that each of the property’s five restaurants is superior in every way. Le Amé (Parisian steakhouse), Theá (Mediterranean rooftop), the Pink Dolphin (Mexican and Peruvian-inspired fare), Le Market (French breakfast and lunch bites), and the Lobby Bar (craft

cocktails with European flair) were inspired by different cuisines around the globe, leading to the name “The Global Ambassador.” Each restaurant draws a crowd any time of day, but the never-ending valet line from 5:00 p.m. onward indicates an unmistakable allure drawing guests through the receiving doors.

Theá (named after the Greek goddess of light) is the property’s Mediterranean-inspired rooftop, offering expansive views of Camelback Mountain as the sky transitions to rosy and honeyed hues with the setting sun. Each plate provides a new amalgam of flavors to share with the entire table, from mezze platters to flatbreads and coastal seafood spreads. The Goddess of All Dips is a crowd-pleaser, showcasing fine baba ganoush, muhammara, artichoke dip, kopanisti (spicy whipped feta with Aleppo honey), hummus, and whipped ricotta with urfa honey, served with crudité, bazlama, and warmed pita.

Each thoughtful touch builds upon the next, merging comfort and elegance in a space that will quickly feel like a home away from home. “

tylish waitstaff donning crossbody leather satchels easefully transport glasses of rosé and spritz to guests watching the sunset on the wraparound outdoor patio. The table next to me gasped in excitement as their server hand-delivered a steaming platter of Moroccan roasted carrots drizzled with Aleppo honey, pistachio, and feta—a true al fresco dining experience. Both outdoor bars and the fire lounge are always packed, deeming Théa the go-to dinner spot for socialites, hotel guests, and Phoenix residents.

Curious to know what a day in the life of a Global Ambassador guest looks like? Begin by channeling the laissez-faire energy of the French and savor breakfast and lunch bites from Le Market. A true French marché, this first-floor chic market offers grab-and-go options and a complete sit-down experience in an authentic European café style. Arched mirrors, inviting leathered banquettes, and an open-air kitchen are only the first wisps of French elegance. Step through the glass doors and find yourself in a sleepy, perfectly manicured courtyard. Olive trees and charming striped umbrellas shade café-goers and their iced coffees. True Europeans might scoff at the mention of ice in one’s coffee (after all, proper espresso must only be served hot), but exceptions are made to find comfort in the desert heat.

and lounge to the upstairs treatment rooms and relaxation space. The men’s and women’s locker rooms offer an abundance of luxury products from exclusive partnerships with leading brands like Augustinus Bader and U Beauty, Dyson hair dryers, and spacious marble-clad showers.

Be sure to arrive early to experience the Finnish dry sauna, eucalyptus steam room, hot tub, and invigorating cold plunge. Before your treatment, you’ll also have the opportunity to curl up on one of the plush chaises in the upstairs relaxation room with a heated neck pillow. Enjoy a rotating selection of nourishing snacks, wellness mocktails, adaptogens, and recovery-focused superfoods as you gaze eastward toward the Phoenix Mountains.

The hotel’s endless range of luxe activities, including an exclusive collaboration with the highly sought-after Forma Pilates and a state-of-the-art fitness center, will delight wellness-obsessed guests. Yet again, Fox and his team deliver when it comes to the details. Staff routinely shined and sanitized equipment to ensure not a single sweat drop was left behind. Expert pilates instructors led me through an invigorating reformer series overlooking Camelback Mountain, and complimentary post-workout energy balls, granola, and LMNT electrolyte waters lined the reception desk.

Crowning all these experiences was The Spa, a world-class wellness refuge I have not stopped thinking about since my stay. As an avid traveler, I have experienced many spa treatments at luxury resorts around the world. This one exceeded my expectations on all fronts, easily taking the number one spot on my list.

The two-story oasis encapsulates the same impeccable design taste and architectural details as the rest of the hotel. It greets visitors with a grand, pearlescent spiral staircase that connects the downstairs beauty stations, locker rooms,

It is safe to say I am a strong proponent (or should I say ambassador?) of spending your next westbound getaway at this new desert retreat. I will certainly be back the next time the Arizona sunscape pulls at my heartstrings.

INSIDER TIPS for YOUR STAY AT THE GLOBAL AMBASSADOR

The VIE-approved itinerary and secrets to take your trip from memorable to exceptional:

Have breakfast downstairs at Le Market. Order the avocado and egg white bowl and exclusive “skin smoothie” in collaboration with Agustinus Bader, which spotlights blue spirulina, collagen, and ashwagandha to give you a healthy glow. Take an iced coffee to-go for an early morning hike (Gateway, Camelback, and Tom’s Thumb are my favorites), or enjoy a sit-down experience at one of the café’s courtyard tables.

Spend an afternoon at the Pink Dolphin bar and pool, lounging under the shade of striped pink umbrellas. Be sure to stop by the Boutique on your way, curated by luxury boutique Wunderkind, a Scottsdale favorite. You’ll find the most exquisite shades, Byredo perfumes, and breezy desert-chic looks (think James Perse T-shirts and Charo Ruiz Ibiza dresses) to take your stay to the next level. Be sure to grab one of the exclusive Aviator Nation x Global Ambassador sweat sets. I can’t think of a more perfect comfy-chic outfit for your flight home!

If you plan to visit The Spa, arrive at least an hour before your scheduled session. That may seem overkill, but not when a plethora of pre-treatment offerings are at your fingertips. Center and relax your body by cycling through the cold plunge, hot tub, and sauna before enjoying the lounge spaces, fully stocked with wellness beverages and snacks. If you want to maximize your time at The Spa, book an afternoon treatment so you can shower and do your skin care in the beautifully lit bathroom space using U Beauty, Augustinus Bader, and Supergoop products before heading out to dinner with a revitalized glow. A three-and-a-half-minute session in the cryotherapy chamber post-treatment is also the perfect way to counter jet lag and improve sleep by activating your parasympathetic nervous system.

The Weekend Essentials: Grab a coffee at Berdena’s and then spend a morning strolling the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market (Saturdays). Be sure to make reservations for dinner at The Henry (another establishment owned by Fox and only a two-minute drive from the Global Ambassador. Spring and fall dinners are best spent on the outdoor patio). Kaleidoscope Juice is my favorite organic juice and smoothie bar to refuel after a long hike or workout, although the smoothies at the Global Ambassador are not to be overlooked!

If you head into North Phoenix, stop by the effortlessly chic Dialog coffee (which also functions as an urban design store) and peruse next-door retailers and NOW OR NEVER for the coolest edit of fashion-forward labels. I would also make reservations far in advance at the downstairs Theodore Roosevelt-inspired bar, Rough Rider, for Victorian-era craft cocktails in a speakeasy ambience. 1 2 3 4 5

Passage of Time

Watersound Origins is a meticulously planned coastal village in South Walton, Florida. Nestled along the shores of Lake Powell and conveniently located near Highway 30-A, this community offers a plethora of amenities. From towering pines to a resortstyle pool, a golf course, event lawns, and more, Watersound Origins is a haven for residents seeking a vibrant and active lifestyle.

Bringing a unique arts experience to the area, The St. Joe Company and the Miami-based Berkowitz Contemporary Foundation have joined forces to create Longleaf Art Park in the heart of the Watersound Origins community. Spanning over fifteen acres, this art-themed park is not just a place for leisure but a cultural and educational hub that promises to enrich and enlighten. Longleaf Art Park is designed to offer a serene setting for people of all ages to learn and grow through art. BCF and St. JOE are set to unveil this one-of-a-kind park, a beacon of knowledge and creativity, in early 2026.

ongleaf Art Park will be anchored around a pavilion serving as a community hub and featuring the 217-foot-long Passage of Time sculpture from world-renowned artist Richard Serra, who passed away in March 2024. The general concept of this park was to provide a heightened and pure experience of the Passage of Time sculpture while keeping construction and distraction around the site to a minimum. This concept led most of the park’s amenities to be situated on the cleared half of the land away from the sculpture. Visitors will enter this pavilion space via glass vestibules located at the pockets of the sculpture on opposing ends, which promotes a more intimate experience with the sculpture.

The Longleaf Art Park is not just a space for art but a work of art in itself. The pavilion, serving as a community hub, is a testament to innovative design. It is approached from a winding wooden deck, echoing the rhythmic form of Richard Serra’s Passage of Time. As one nears the pavilion, the turns become more frequent, offering varying glimpses of the pavilion through the columns of the pine forest trunks and the pavilion façade.

This park will also serve as an event space, offering breathtaking views of the wetlands and winding hiking trails, promoting the environment’s natural beauty. It will boast a 17,000-square-foot sculpture pavilion to host lectures, special events, versatile gallery space, and more. This park will have endless opportunities for all, including amenities such as a reception area, a 20,000-square-foot event space, a rest pavilion, visitor parking, and more.

With the addition of Longleaf Art Park and all the other amenities offered, the Watersound Origins community is more than just a location—it’s a vibrant, inclusive space for anyone who values outdoor living, the beauty of nature, and the warmth of friendly neighbors. Whether you’re interested in renting a townhome, buying a home, or starting a new build, there’s a place for you in this community. Longleaf Art Park is not just a park but a shared space where the community can come together, celebrate art, and create lasting memories.

TALKING LONGLEAF ART PARK WITH CHLOE BERKOWITZ

VIE: How did the Berkowitz Contemporary Foundation (BCF) come to life? What was the impetus for you starting it?

Chloe Berkowitz: The works that interest me most are monumental and experiential. After collecting a few of these pieces, it became evident they were too important to keep behind closed doors. Thus, in 2013, I created my family’s art foundation, Berkowitz Contemporary Foundation (BCF for short), and used those first few significant works as a starting point for the collection.

VIE: What is BCF’s mission? How will you integrate that into your projects in our region?

CB: At BCF, we champion the inspirational, informative, and inclusive effects that art can have on a community, especially when it’s exhibited publicly and paired with immersive programming. This thinking led us to our largest initiative yet, Longleaf Art Park, located in the 30-A region. Integrating Longleaf Art Park into the community is only possible with the support and guidance from our partners, the Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA) of Walton County. BCF and CAA will collaborate on the long-term programming of the park, and CAA will manage the day-to-day activities. Through the development of Longleaf Art Park and partnering with the CAA, we will unlock the true creative potential of the community.

VIE: Please expound upon your love and knowledge of art and how art brings a community together. Is this modeled after something you’ve seen in your global travels?

CB: I’ve had a twenty-year-long love affair with art. I’ve studied, created, supported, and collected it. Art has played a significant role in my life,

Founder & President of Berkowitz Contemporary Foundation

INTERVIEW BY

shaping how I approach every aspect and situation. I believe that art was the first universal language, leading back to almost 20,000 years ago with the cave paintings of Lascaux. Art gives us this incredible ability to tell stories without the necessity of written language and, in that sense, allows us to create that astonishing connection across many cultures and communities. Art is not necessarily about agreeing about what is in front of you but being able to share that introspective moment.

During my travels, I have always been inspired by great outdoor art parks, such as the Louisiana Museum in Denmark, the Ekebergparken Sculpture Park in Norway, and the Dia Art Foundation in New York. They have figured out a seamless existence of art and nature; that said, I have a long list of places I want to visit!

VIE: When did you first connect to the 30-A area, and what do you love most about it?

CB: I was made aware of the area about six years ago and was immediately impressed with the vast forestry, beautiful beaches, and kind people. The more time I spend here, the more connected I feel to the community. Walton County is ideal for this project because we had the opportunity to create something beyond our wildest dreams. We previously had ideas for something with a smaller footprint elsewhere, but when we were given the chance to transform fifteen acres here in Walton County, the obvious answer was “Yes. We envision Longleaf Art Park as a world-class arts destination for locals and visitors alike, so having the space to create something more thoughtful and impactful is a huge win. I’d be remiss if I didn’t add that the community has been so supportive from the beginning, and I can’t express how much that means to me and my family.

VIE: Who are some artists whose work will be displayed in addition to the centerpiece by the late Richard Serra?

CB: Richard Serra’s Passage of Time will anchor the project’s first stage. Still, as the park evolves, we plan to incorporate more of BCF’s diverse permanent collection and rotating exhibitions. Some artists currently in the permanent collection include James Turrell, Anish Kapoor, Keith Haring, Rashid Johnson, and many more.

VIE: Why did Serra’s sculpture stand out as the perfect anchor for this park?

CB: We had a close working relationship with Richard Serra. When we presented him with the idea of Longleaf Art Park, he was enthusiastic enough about the project and its location that he helped us make critical choices in its development, so we felt it was natural to unveil the park with his contemplative work as the focal point.

VIE: Are there any other projects the foundation is working on that you’d like to share with our readers?

CB: I’m most excited about the other projects we’re working on with Jennifer Steele and her team at CAA! BCF also works closely and supports other organizations across the United States, including Dia Art Foundation, Young Arts, and The Bass Museum, to name a few, as well as creating means of artist aid programs and loaning pieces of our collections to other institutions that align with our vision.

VIE: How can people participate in the foundation’s mission?

CB: We hope to see the faces of this community when the park opens and as we continue to roll out different programs. In the meantime, go out and support local! CAA continues to do incredible exhibitions and shows.

Like all BCF programs, Longleaf Art Park will be free and open to the public. Stay tuned for details on the art park’s opening in early 2026 and other projects!

Get Your Tan On!

Interview by McKenna Mears

Photography Courtesy of Dolce Glow

With an impressive roster of A-list clients like Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, and Selena Gomez, Isabel Alysa’s life reads like a Hollywood script. From a challenging childhood in foster care to owning the successful Dolce Glow brand, her journey is a testament to resilience, confidence, and relentless hard work. A single spray tan ignited Alysa’s passion, propelling her from dead-end jobs to founding a brand now available in Ulta stores nationwide. Her story highlights her innovation in the sunless tanning industry and the powerful relationships that have fueled her brand’s success.

spoke with Alysa to gain some insight into her journey! This is Isabel Alysa—the entrepreneur, the visionary, and the genuine, unstoppable force.

VIE: Can you tell us more about your journey from foster care to becoming the owner of a successful self-tanning brand now available in Ulta stores nationwide?

Isabel Alysa: Growing up in foster care was tough, and when I turned seventeen, I left to forge my own path. I worked numerous dead-end jobs, and one day, I decided to splurge on a spray tan. It completely changed the way I felt and brought me the confidence I needed so badly at that time in my life. It covered up imperfections I didn’t love and just made me feel so beautiful. After that, I wanted to learn how to bring that feeling to other people, so I took the last $2,000 in our bank account and took a spray tan class. From there, I immersed myself in learning everything I could to provide top-notch service. This dedication evolved into Dolce Glow’s professional solutions and self-tanners. Seeing Dolce Glow’s growth into a nationwide brand has exceeded my wildest dreams. I’m profoundly grateful that my hard work and sacrifices have led to a company that’s not only changed my life but is also making a difference for others.

VIE: What inspired you to create Dolce Glow?

IA: The transformative feeling I experienced from my first spray tan was a major inspiration. Additionally, my daughter, Mia, played a crucial role in motivating me to bring Dolce Glow to life.

VIE: You have worked with various A-list clients, from Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian to Selena Gomez. How did these collaborations come about?

IA: Collaborating with such high-profile clients doesn’t happen by chance. It’s all about building genuine, meaningful relationships and earning recommendations through hard work. I made many sacrifices and always said “yes” to opportunities, knowing that if I didn’t, someone else might. Creating a comfortable and professional environment for my clients has been essential in fostering these successful partnerships.

VIE: What sets Dolce Glow’s self-tanning products apart from others in the market? Can you share more about the natural and clean ingredients used in your formulas?

IA: Our products stand out because they are Dermatologist-Tested and AllergyTested, which is a significant advantage in the self-tanning industry. We’ve carefully formulated our ingredients to be hydrating, fast-drying, and free from the typical “self-tanner” smell. Addressing common issues with self-tanners, we’ve ensured our products don’t leave a sticky residue or dry out the skin. Instead, they provide a beautiful, even tan while keeping your skin hydrated and glowing.

VIE: How did you transition from professional tanning to launching a self-tanning product line?

IA: Many people don’t have the time or resources to get a professional spray tan regularly, so I wanted to bring that same beautiful glow into their homes. Our goal was to create self-tanners that deliver the same stunning results as a professional spray tan. Many of my clients use our self-tanners to touch up or extend their spray tans, making it a versatile addition to their beauty routine.

VIE: You’ve had the opportunity to provide tans for celebrities at events like the Grammys, Golden Globes, and Super Bowl. Can you share some memorable moments from these experiences?

IA: I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to be part of amazing moments, like tanning Jennifer Lopez for her Super Bowl performance, Sophia Richie Grainge for her wedding, and Kim Kardashian for her Met Gala look. These experiences have allowed me to travel the world and achieve dreams I once thought were out of reach. Seeing these dreams come to life is sometimes beyond belief, and I always remind people that no dream is too big!

VIE: What motivated you to create the Dolce Glow Summit, and how does it align with your mission to foster community and support other beauty entrepreneurs?

IA: When I was starting out, I had so many unanswered questions and struggled to find the right guidance. I wanted to create a supportive space where entrepreneurs could seek advice and gain insights they might not have considered. I firmly believe there’s room for everyone to succeed, and I’m committed to sharing the lessons I’ve learned to help others avoid unnecessary setbacks. The positive feedback from last year’s Dolce Glow Summit was overwhelming, so we’re excited to bring it back in January 2025 to continue supporting and empowering fellow beauty entrepreneurs.

VIE: Miley Cyrus was so impressed with Dolce Glow that she decided to invest in your brand. What does it mean to have her as an investor, and how has it influenced the growth of your business?

IA: I’m incredibly grateful for Miley’s belief in Dolce Glow. As a long-time client, she experienced firsthand how our products enhance her glow. Her endorsement means so much, not just because of her star power but because her genuine appreciation for our brand speaks volumes. Her investment has been a tremendous boost, helping to elevate our brand’s visibility and growth, and I’m thrilled someone with her authenticity and influence supports what we do.

VIE: What are your goals for Dolce Glow over the next few years? Are you excited about any new product lines, partnerships, or projects?

IA: I’m committed to continuing innovation with our products and fostering a community where everyone supports each other’s success. My goal is always to make a lasting impact beyond just a spray tan or self-tanner.

We have some exciting developments in the pipeline that I can’t reveal yet, but I’m thrilled about what’s coming next. Stay tuned—some incredible things are on the horizon!

VIE: Thank you, Isabel!

Embracing Timeless Silhouettes and Originality

Photography by Patrizio Marcocci
A budding visionary in the fashion industry, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida-based designer Sierra Smith recently returned from a remarkable two-year study through the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Splitting her undergraduate career between New York City and the esteemed Polimoda Fashion School in Florence, Italy, Smith continues to test the boundaries of traditional fashion design while honing her distinct style.

Smith always knew she wanted to pursue a creative career, but she never knew what medium would call her name. In 2020, she began thrifting clothes and quickly realized she wanted to alter her new pieces. After purchasing a sewing machine and watching a few YouTube tutorials, she was hooked. Nothing could have prepared her for the satisfaction that came from making a garment by hand. During this time, Smith interned and worked with local fashion designer Nicole Paloma, where she discovered she wanted to pursue a career in fashion entrepreneurship. Spending hours behind her sewing machine, Sierra taught herself how to sew and set her sights on attending the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) for college.

Once accepted, Smith began her New York City adventure and spent hours in the studio learning from some of the best mentors and professors in the industry. FIT offers a two-year associate’s degree in fashion design, and she planned to spend both years in the city. Then, she caught wind of Polimoda: a premier fashion school in the heart of Firenze, which offers a unique partnership

program with FIT. Students spend a year in each location, gaining fresh perspectives, cultural enrichment, and the best schooling from leading American and European professors. She jumped at the opportunity to learn from two different schools and to become a globally-minded designer.

Her time at both campuses proved invaluable, but Smith credits her love for Polimoda to the one-onone direction from her professors and the intimate relationships she formed with students and staff. “My greatest takeaway from Polimoda was how to take criticism, grow from it, and stay true to my art,” she expresses. “Everyone around you is beyond talented and creating something beautiful, but it’s up to you to stay authentic.”

Sierra Smith’s award-winning creation from her study at Polimoda fashion institute in Florence, Italy, displayed in the school’s Villa Favard for the final exhibition

Smith goes on to tell me that the Polimoda “style” often leans towards avant-garde-inspired pieces: striking, wearable art that plays on volume, texture, and sculptural technique. Her time in Florence strengthened her authentic, feminine style in a workroom where many of her peers preferred to create these bold, grandiose styles. It is a testament to staying true to what you think looks good in a room full of tastemakers. Comparison kills creativity.

Each Polimoda student completes a capstone project before graduating with an associate’s degree from FIT. This year’s theme was “Roots & Transformation,” and Smith pondered how she could make this piece personal. She finally settled on designing a capsule collection of ten pieces inspired by her genetic roots— fitting, considering her parents are both artists. Her professors and design critics helped Smith pick one design to move forward with for the final showcase.

The chosen look was inspired by DNA coils and anatomical elements of the human body, employing jewel-toned shades of red, purple, and blue throughout. The corset models the human figure, and the button-down was inspired by Smith’s mother. The pants include hand-stitched plaid patterning and were meticulously layered and draped on different grains of the fabric.

Smith devoted her spring semester to bringing this look to life, meaning she spent weeks of twelve-hour days in the studio. She tells me the plaid on the pants alone demanded over a hundred hours of labor, as each piece of ribbon was sewn by hand (with five different ribbons total). Several components required hand-stitched embroidery. After creating two prototypes and showing off her inspiring work ethic, she presented her final look alongside her classmates for graduation in May 2024.

EVERYONE AROUND YOU IS BEYOND TALENTED AND CREATING SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, BUT IT’S UP TO YOU TO STAY AUTHENTIC.

Polimoda offers one student the esteemed Critics Choice Award, selected by a panel of reputable fashion critics and creatives, at the end of each year. In addition to celebrating her graduation from FIT, we are excited to share that Smith was the 2024 recipient of this coveted award.

Smith says this recognition was unexpected, and she was extremely grateful to be chosen. The ethos of her final design was not to stand out from her classmates or give her a competitive edge; Smith wanted to create something aligned with her

style—a seamless translation of her vision to fabric. This win is a testament to her devotion to her craft and the power of authentic artistic expression. We express our heartfelt congratulations from the team at VIE !

Moving forward, Smith is excited to launch her fashion label in 2025. Inspired by intimate apparel, she plans to bring a new vision to the ready-towear and lingerie spaces with her top-class skill set from FIT.

Be sure to check out Sierra Smith’s website, ArreisStudios.com, and her Instagram @arreis.studios for exclusive updates on when her first collection will debut!

Drawing inspiration from college campuses and nostalgic locales, Cleary launched The Clearly Collective with a collection of silk scarves featuring these hand-drawn architectural motifs. This process allowed her to channel elegance while capturing powerful narratives about the uniqueness of each place. Cleary believes design should be timeless and intentional, and meaningful gifting should transcend the traditional logoed college sweatshirt or destination matchbook. At age twenty-seven, she has garnered an impressive client roster of iconic brands ranging from the Olympics to McLaren and Cartier—and she’s just getting started.

“I was always a creative kid, building little fairy houses, sculptures, and popsicle stick structures,” Cleary shares. “My parents encouraged me to pursue a practical career with a creative outlet, and architecture worked really well with how my brain functions.” Her program at the University of Virginia School of Architecture emphasized design thinking, which covered how to take a wildly abstract idea and make it digestible. “This helped me learn the ideation process of creating something valuable to other people,” she reflects.

The idea to apply her background in architecture to fashion began with Cleary’s search for a chic yet memorable gift for her friends. The University of Virginia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the iconic Rotunda marking the heart of campus life. It was the ultimate subject to translate onto a silk scarf. It held meaning, allowed Cleary to express her style, and called upon known architectural elements that resonated with her college friends. Not to mention the dozens of ways to style a silk scarf: as a top, belt, skirt, in your hair, on a bag, in a frame— the options are endless. “Architecture is so timeless and transcends different age groups; it’s universal,” she affirms.

his summer, Cleary returned to her alma mater, the University of Virginia, to participate in the highly sought-after Darden iLab incubator program. Emerging with an even clearer vision for the brand, she says her most significant takeaway is having a refined structure to succeed. “My friend told me this great analogy of what it means to be an entrepreneur: Imagine you’re in a room full of beach balls, and each one represents a problem you need to solve in your business. You’re always hitting new beach balls into the air, but inevitably, they will fall back to the ground. You have to figure out which ones you’re going to hit first and which ones you need to hit the hardest,” she says. “The idea of this analogy is prioritizing the one million things you need to deal with to get a company off the ground. One day at Darden, we had to refine one hundred goals into three goals, and within each of those goals, write smaller goals that we could take actionable steps toward.”

Cleary’s tips for succeeding as a young designer and marketing her brand also break down to a simple formula: marry your creativity and uniqueness with something the everyday person understands. “Don’t reinvent the wheel when you’re getting started,” she says. “Later on, you can create something super innovative, but if you go out there with a product that no one resonates with, it won’t catch on.” Many of the world’s greatest artists were only recognized after their lifetimes because society wasn’t on the same page; people couldn’t appreciate the designs or relate to the pieces at the time they were created. “I took my own style and married it with architectural elements people recognized and understood,” she continues. “From there, I was able to be more unique as time went on.”

want to understand everything that is customer-facing and to identify ‘Easter eggs,’” she says. “Easter eggs are small design stories that resonate with whomever the recipient is in a personal way. For example, I was doing a project for a private villa in Lake Como. The mom really wanted this three-hundred-year-old olive tree in the center of the home to be kept through the renovation, which was a bit burdensome, but it was an inside joke for the family. The tree was an unassuming part of the final scarf design but also one of the most important elements. That’s always the most rewarding part of my job: when I can incorporate those personal elements in a memorable way.”

Each of the scarves in the Collegiate and Destinations collections also tells a profound story. The Hamptons scarf is a favorite, featuring hand-drawn architecture reminiscent of local favorites like the Surf Lodge, Clam Shack, Carissa’s Bakery, Southampton Social Club, and more.

At its core, The Clearly Collective is a luxury lifestyle brand because Olivia has mastered the art of effectively communicating purposeful stories through design. “I think what makes a compelling story are the details,” she expresses. “When it comes to a luxury product, think about those small details and experiences that resonate with the customer. My friends and I were staying at a hotel in Portugal, and when we got into the car to leave, there were flowers on the dashboard, and they had filled up our water. They had also given us to-go containers of this phenomenal olive cake I had said I enjoyed at dinner a few nights before. Every single industry has these layers of details. So many little things go into creating a rich customer experience that keeps people coming back.”

The storytelling experience is ingrained in the very first step of the design process for each scarf. Cleary and her team begin with an introductory call regarding brand values, history, and the aesthetic of the company, college, or location represented. “I

Cleary’s favorite design project to date was her collaboration with McLaren San Francisco for Monterey Car Week in 2023. Using the iconic elements of the local Laguna Seca racetrack, she designed a stunning car wrap, dress, and silk scarves for the British luxury automotive brand. “When creating this design, I had to learn more about car culture and what McLaren owners value most,” she recalls. “One of my biggest takeaways is that track day is such a monumental occasion for this community. Getting down to the track in this gritty atmosphere in jeans and a T-shirt is what keeps owners coming back. The racetrack itself isn’t the most glamorous; there are cones, metal fences, and concrete barriers. What I really enjoyed about this design was taking this rough-around-the-edges experience and translating it into a product that is both beautiful and meaningful. If you look closely, there are traffic cones on the scarf, but that’s all part of the thrill this experience represents.”

Cleary also notes that social media has massively impacted the growth of her brand. All her clients have been inbound leads from Instagram. By sharing behind-thescenes looks into her business, photo shoots, and new product ideas, Cleary has built a devoted community of over seventy thousand followers. “The algorithm works to put you in front of people who will resonate with your type of story,” she says. “It has the power to drive someone’s brand to the right people because of the free marketplace and algorithm that helps us find new brands and connect consumers. Everyone should take a course in storytelling because it’s so valuable.”

Above all else, Cleary credits her success to the unconditional support from her community. From roommates to family and followers on social media, she thanks the

people who have helped her in big and small ways. “A year and a half ago, I didn’t have this confidence in what I was doing,” she admits. “It takes a lot of courage to believe in your designs because beauty is all in the eye of the beholder. But there were so many people who believed in me, asked questions about my brand, and gave me their time.”

She notes that she looks forward to pouring back into these individuals once the initial chaos of starting a small business lessens. “A quality many don’t value enough is giving intentional, extended periods of time to people,” Cleary explains. “I feel like this pertains to my age group because, from college to my age of twenty-seven, there are so many transitions. We’re all trying to figure life out. I have noticed that when people give me their time and when I slow down, these relationships become incredibly impactful. We don’t often give ourselves a lot of time for something, whether that be a task or investing in a relationship. But when you give a task that effort, it’s incredibly fruitful in a mutually beneficial way. Intentional, long periods of time in a fast-paced world are important. And when somebody gives that to you, you should really thank them.”

Cleary is all in on The Clearly Collective after quitting her corporate job this past spring. Moving forward, she is excited to expand her ready-to-purchase collections while collaborating with more luxury brands. A partnership with a luxury hotel in Saudi Arabia or India is at the forefront of her vision board, alongside another automotive collaboration, this time with the International Concours of Elegance in St. Moritz.

Entrepreneur Jessie Taylor, raised in Florida, never imagined that “selling seashells by the seashore” could become a business. But that was before she started Reshelled Jewelry, a handmade brand that embodies the vacation vibe.

Growing up in Grayton Beach, Florida, where the local motto is “Nice dogs, strange people,” Taylor has always loved the coastal lifestyle. Living in a beach town, she spent most of her childhood in the sun, sand, and a swimsuit, and the summers never seemed to end.

Even beyond her hometown, her family spent weeks each summer on Fripp Island, South Carolina, where her love of shells was born. Collecting shells along the East Coast was a daily activity during her summers away. She returned home with dozens of shell varieties in limitless shapes and colors; who wouldn’t be inspired by what nature can do?

During a trip to St. Barts, Taylor wanted to show her appreciation for the incredible hospitality from her hostess with something unique and personal. She decided to repurpose some shells she had collected during her stay into a gift. She did some quick research and bought a drill and some earring posts. By the end of the week, her hostess had an adorable set of shell earrings from a favorite local beach, and they were a hit!

Although she didn’t set out to start a jewelry company, Taylor posted the earrings on her Instagram story and started receiving several messages from friends wanting to buy a pair. This unexpected demand encouraged Taylor to embark on a new creative journey. What began as a fun, creative outlet during her family’s summer vacations inspired her to do more. With a background in marketing and a family of small business creatives, she saw an opportunity to build a brand of her own. After making

several pieces for friends and family, Reshelled Jewelry was born. She quickly created a separate Instagram account to showcase her creations and launched a website in January 2021.

Since the beginning, Taylor has loved sharing the ups and downs and behind-thescenes of Reshelled. From the handcrafting of the pieces to the shipping, she’s taken her Instagram and TikTok audiences along the journey, which has caused people to fall even more in love with the brand.

Growing a small business while working full-time is challenging, especially when hand-making every piece yourself. When the flood of orders became more than she could manage as a moonlight job, she had a choice to make. She decided to take the leap of faith to see what she was capable of.

There’s so much power in coming together, especially when sharing on social media platforms. Influencers like Landyn Hutchinson and Shannon Ford have worn and promoted their favorite Reshelled pieces, and their platforms have given the brand a lot of organic exposure. It’s been an adventure—one for which she’s extremely grateful.

Not only are the jewelry pieces themselves stunning, but the visual brand of Reshelled makes you want to always be by the water. When you look at each piece, it captures everything we love about being on vacation: fun, sun, and our favorite swimsuit! locales like Costa Rica, St. Barts, The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and, of course, her hometown of Grayton Beach.

One thing that continues to be important as Reshelled grows is Taylor’s commitment to attractive, well-made jewelry. From materials sourcing to shipping, one of Reshelled’s values is sustainability. Taylor cares about how the shells are sourced and crafted. That’s why in the fall of 2023 after she married her husband, Atul Agnihotri, in Gurugram, New Delhi, India, they took precious time away from their honeymoon to find a manufacturing partner they could trust. Turning to the major artisanal city of Jaipur, India, they were thrilled to find a partner that provides quality products and excellent working conditions—plus, Taylor gets to support another generational family business in the process. A bonus is that Reshelled gets to involve part of her new family’s heritage.

While Taylor continues to handcraft all the prototype pieces herself, like any natural-born entrepreneur, she is excited to continue the adventure. She loves brainstorming ways to evolve and branch into new territory. Reshelled’s latest line includes luxury pieces designed in Nashville, Tennessee, where she currently lives, and are created with their manufacturing partner in Jaipur, India. This journey of growth and expansion is a testament to the possibilities that await those who are passionate and dedicated to their craft.

THE FOREVER

THIS SPECIAL BOND CONTINUED TO GROW STRONGER AND STRONGER OVER THE YEARS UNTIL THE PAIR KNEW THEY WERE READY TO TAKE ON forever together.

rowing up in a close-knit family, Gabrielle Carollo from Destin, Florida, attended Niceville High School with her cousin and friend Ryan. Through him, she crossed paths with his best friend, Nathaniel Lloyd, and their connection was undeniable. This special bond continued to grow stronger over the years until the pair knew they were ready to take on forever together.

This love story began when Nathaniel asked Gabrielle to accompany him on a coffee date after school in Niceville. They continued spending time together following this occasion and soon became inseparable.

e got engaged on December 24, 2022,” says Gabrielle. “It was Christmas Eve, freezing, and he took me to a rooftop he had set up earlier that night with one of his best friends. I had no idea it was happening! He told me we had to ‘wrap the pipes because they were going to freeze.’ It was such a perfect moment, and we went to celebrate at my family’s Christmas Eve party right after.”

Being Florida natives, the couple explored various venue options before deciding to hold their wedding ceremony at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, with a reception to follow at The Henderson Beach Resort in Destin. With the idea of a large fairy-tale wedding celebration in mind, The Henderson Beach Resort was the perfect setting to host the reception of their dreams. Considering The Henderson’s lush green lawn area, Gabrielle knew she wanted to utilize her mother’s design skills to create a magical experience for herself, her husband, and their guests.

“My mom, Kirstie, is an interior designer and owns Bella Beach Home in Destin,” says Gabrielle. “I love

everything she does and was so excited to design everything with her for the reception.”

With help from both her mother in interior design and Stephanie Tate, owner and lead coordinator of Savoir Faire Weddings, Gabrielle explains that the wedding planning process was fun and enjoyable for her and her husband! The couple trusted both the bride’s mother and Tate with the majority of the wedding details, allowing them to relax and soak in all the sweet moments preparing for married life.

Gabrielle recalls many amazing moments she encountered on her wedding day and says it is hard to choose just a few favorites. She shares many sentimental details that transformed her big day into precious memories she and her family will cherish forever.

“It was coastal, with lots of greenery and big flower arrangements,” she says of the decor. “My bouquet was one of my favorite things. It was a petite arrangement of the delicate lily of the valley and beautiful green leaves. Wrapped around it was my grandmother’s rosary, which she’s had since she was a little girl. At

the time of the cake cutting, we made our champagne toast with my grandparents’ crystal champagne glasses they drank from at their wedding in 1967, which was so special to me. Getting dressed with my mom in her room at my childhood home was also special, and I’m so glad we decided to get ready there. The pictures are so stunning, and I loved every moment. Doing the first look with my dad in front of our house was so beautiful and unforgettable to me; I think I cried the most in that moment.”

She also recalls that one of her favorite moments was driving down Scenic Highway 30-A in a vintage Rolls-Royce following the wedding reception.

The newlyweds took this time to share all the sweet moments from their day and bask in the excitement of it all.

Following the wedding festivities, the couple traveled to the Faena Hotel in Miami for their honeymoon. The bride’s sister coordinated their trip, from plane tickets to dinner reservations, so the newly married couple could focus on relaxing and enjoying each other’s company while they celebrated. The couple spent their days lounging by the pool, shopping, and enjoying the incredible cuisine in South Beach. Congratulations to Nathaniel and Gabrielle!

Carey is the namesake of Harlan’s Place Foundation, a new nonprofit based in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Its mission is to create an independent living community for adults with Down syndrome and other disabilities where they can thrive, work, play, learn, and receive medical care.

Harlan

Harlan’s Place

PROVIDING

A SAFE HAVEN FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES

Michael and Marina Carey, parents of the beloved Harlan, who has Down syndrome, are also the founders of Stock & Trade Design Company in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Their personal journey led them to establish Harlan’s Place Foundation, with a mission to create a safe environment for people with Down syndrome and other developmental disorders to enjoy independence and the richness of life. Michael’s passion for construction and success in flipping antique furniture led to the establishment of Stock & Trade, which offers retail showrooms and design services to the public, along with unprecedented programs for the design trade, builders, architects, and developers.

After wondering what life would look like for their son in the future and not finding adequate results

in the area, the Careys founded Harlan’s Place Foundation to help all people thrive and experience the same opportunities as others without a disability in a setting that respects unique strengths and aspirations. Casting aside their original plan to create a multifamily housing project, Michael Carey knew this purpose and foundation would be much more significant, ultimately benefiting his cherished son, Harlan, and others like him.

“I want him to work, I want him to volunteer in the community, I want him to feel motivated, I want him to find a passion, I want him to be inspired,” Michael shares. “After extensive research, I couldn’t find what I was looking for. It was while I was reviewing some plans for an apartment complex that we were about to break ground on when I realized my answer for Harlan was sitting right in front of me.”

It was while I was reviewing some plans for an apartment complex that we were about to break ground on when I realized my answer for Harlan was sitting right in front of me.

As a nonprofit organization that promotes building connections, embracing uniqueness, and nurturing potential, Harlan’s Place Foundation will offer sixty fully-furnished dwelling units in a resort-style facility with life-enhancing amenities such as walking trails, shared common areas, transportation to and from jobs, a serene pond, safety features, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and much more. Thanks to the help and support from sponsors and others in the area, this project will begin construction in 2025. It will provide individuals with a warm and nurturing environment to thrive, either as their permanent home or as a place to visit for programs and activities with others.

This program will serve our community by providing a safe and enriching environment for anyone with a disability. Through Harlan’s Place Foundation, both immediate and long-term needs can be met and exceeded for individuals with disabilities. One of the foundation’s most important missions is to create a world where everyone can live a life of independence and fulfillment regardless of ability.
