Hello everyone and welcome to the July issue of FAST LANE BIKER New York / New Jersey. This month we have a chance to feature a Motorcycle that no one has ever seen before. The Harley Davidson Motor Company introduces the Live Wire Project, their newest electric motorcycle. Yeah, I realize I’m gonna’ take a lot of heat for putting on the cover, but a lot of people will be sending e-mails telling me that’s not a real Harley among other things... I’m sure. The same way, maybe worse then when I put the first glimpse of the V Rod on the cover years ago. But like it or not the electric motorcycle has been coming for a long time and most likely won’t be going away. It’s nice to see an American company out ahead of the curve first. Yes, there are other electric motorcycles out there, like the Zero and a few smaller brands with a real hefty price tag, but there isn’t nothing like this one. I cant wait for them to start production and see how this whole thing turns out. So till next time,

THE FIRST ELECTRIC HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE “Project LiveWire is more like the first electric guitar – not an electric car,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Harley-Davidson Motor Company. “It’s an expression of individuality and iconic style that just happens to be electric. Project LiveWire is a bold statement for us as a company and a brand.” The bike offers a visceral riding experience with tire-shredding acceleration and an unmistakable new sound. “The sound is a distinct part of the thrill,” said Richer. “Think fighter jet on an aircraft carrier. Project LiveWire’s unique sound was designed to differentiate it from internal combustion and other electric motorcycles on the market.” Longer term plans for retail availability of Project LiveWire will be influenced by feedback from riders along the Project Livewire Experience tour. Rubber side not quite down..

An American Biker

A tale of two rides..

I tend to push the limits I ride against the wind I look upon my vices Without the guilt of sin

Twice the pavement betrayed me not keeping the rubber-side down -The first - a cager ran the light smashed and crushed the bike left nerves and muscles raw my brainswaves were scrambled tangling memory with fight or flight a screeching halt destroyed a life built 'round the road and wind gone were long rides north -or through the Essex farms stopping to buy a book or maybe a bite to eat, just long enough to cool the engine and stretch the legs, or listen to a local's yarn but not for long you see 'cause keeping to the road was always the destiny. The second threw a wrench into the family tree -a cager crossed the line a dead center head-on hit threw the kid thirty feet his helmet did no good cracked in half it landed far from where he fell if a cop did not revive him right there at the scene he'd not had a story to tell or ever mount another ride on any metal steed. But that is not how the story ends the kid still rides and loves the wind but me? I've left the seat... still love the road and chase the wind and write biker poetry. © MarySusan Williams-Migneault September 10, 2012 Road Scribes Of America ™ 23

ASK THE ATTORNEY BY: LEE D. GABER, ESQUIRE 1-888-CYCLE-LAW • LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com • www.cycleattorney.com coverage, he would have had at least one million dollars of UM/UIM coverage to make a claim against after he recovered from the individual who caused the accident. How much he will actually have, remains to be seen. Bottom line – PULL OUT YOUR POLICY - right now, and make sure you have the same amount of UM/UIM coverage as you purchased for bodily injury liability. I would suggest purchasing $100,000 in coverage across the board or, if that isn’t affordable then purchase the highest amount you can afford. So if necessary, call your agent, go on line, or call your carrier directly, and add it to your policy today, before its too late! It is cheap enough to add, along with the stacking option, and if you ever need it, it will be the best money you ever spent. As always, if upon reading this material you have any questions regarding this topic or any others, please feel free to contact me at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

I recently represented a client who had motorcycle insurance through State Farm on his bike, autos and a personal umbrella policy as well. He had great liability coverage, $250,000.00, on both his bike and auto policies BUT, for some reason, he apparently purchased less uninsured/underinsured coverage on his automobile policies and rejected this coverage all together on his motorcycle policy. I say apparently because State Farm needs to prove to me that he actually signed the required forms indicating he understood, and agreed to, these changes in coverage. If they cannot produce the waivers, they must reform the policy to provide the coverage. I am still waiting. Those of you who have heard me speak at one of my lectures will remember my endorsing State Farm for motorcycle coverage as they are currently the only major insurance carrier that allows you to “stack” the uninsured and underinsured coverages from our bikes onto our automobiles, assuming you purchased the “stacking” option on both policies. In this case, had my client simply followed the law and purchased the allowable amount of UM/UIM
