A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a motorcycle when he spotted a well known heart surgeon in his shop. The surgeon was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his bike. The mechanic shouted across the garage, “Hey Doc, can I ask you a question?”

The surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, “So, Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take valves out, fix ‘em, put ‘em back in and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing basically the same work?”

QUEENSBORO M.C. 100TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD PART Y at Paddy McGees Fish House & Bar . Island Park . NY . October 2nd, 2010

The kids and I took a ride out to celebrate this historic occasion with the Queensboro M.C. All Long Island, NY City, and a lot of other clubs up and down the east coast came to show respect and support for this mile stone. What a great group of people they truly are. It started out a couple of months ago when I got a phone call from Bill G., the President of the Queensboro M.C., to come down as his guest and enjoy a great night out at their 100th Anniversary Party. I jumped at the chance to attend and thanked him for his call. We arrived around 4pm and the party was already in full swing. As we grabbed some burgers and hot dogs, we enjoyed the great view from the deck of Paddy McGees, and marveled at the spectacular sunset behind the bridge in the background, as some of the pictures will show. The kids had a blast, and all the Queensboro M.C crew went out of their way to joke around with my kids and pose for my son when he took over the photography. I must say he is showing a very promising future in that department! his club always goes above and beyond to put together some of the best parties I have attended, and also makes sure that everyone is having fun on a personal level. The way each member took some time to make my kids smile and made sure they were having just as great of a time as everyone one else, speaks volumes about the type of people the Queensboro M.C. is made up of. They are al ways leading the pack, showing everyone how to have one hell of a party and a great time and everyone in the biker world should respect an Anniversary of 100 years as a club. There are only a few that hit the mark in North America and they are one of them. I can’t say enough ever about the Queensboro M.C., You should mark off your calendar for every event they have. You will be sure to have a good time. For more information go to www.queensboromc. com Don’t forget about their Thank You Costume Party on Nov 6th at the Clubhouse, free. See there web site for details. Congratulations from everyone here at Fast Lane Biker NY. We wish you many more to come. By Frank D.

Back in the days the only pressure we had was who was going to be IT in hide and seek, and what t-shirt we were going to wear with our blue jeans. If you had a fight with your best friend within hours you would forget what you were fighting about. Bullying has become country wide, whether it’s verbal, physical, or on the internet. These kids feel they have no one or place to turn to, except for the alternative, doing something drastic to themselves. The children of today feel so much pressure, are they wearing named brand clothes, do they have the newest electronic devices, their hair style, orientation interests and race. The list I’m sure goes on! We as adults need to look for the signs, and act on it, even if our kids say “I’m fine nothing is wrong, I am happy.” Then when a kid does something extreme to themselves, we ask why didn’t I see that? We should know all or most of our kids friends, let the kids know they can hang-out at your home. Make yourself available to drive them to and from places, take interest in their interests. Try and monitor their time on the computers and get them out in the air where they belong. Everyone needs to know they have a place they are welcomed and feel safe. Adults should keep a close eye on the kids Face Book page, see if they are saying things that seem unusual or crying out for HELP in a discreet way such as songs, sayings and what others are saying to them on threads. In other words stalk their pages. There is an organization I’m sure most of you have heard of, which is Big Brothers and Sisters, unfortunately, due to the economy, there is a 6-9 month wait to get a mentor. Wouldn’t it be great if we could have our older kids become mentors to get the younger ones through their tough times of growing up? Even as adults we should be able to come up with something to let these kids know we are here and care about them. This bullying and depression has hit very close to home for a lot of us… Let’s put our thoughts together and help these kids out. 11

THE CAROL BALDWIN RACE FOR THE CURE September 19th, 2010 . By Debbie Landers

The Carol Baldwin Race for the Cure was held on the chilly but bright Sunday in September. It started and ended at the Dinosaur in downtown Syracuse. The ride had options, ride and eat or ride and still support the cure. The place was packed and everyone was enjoying the music, food and, doing something good all at the same time. JT and I covered it. When the ride was over and people were lining up to eat, we said a few words to Carol Baldwin and moved around the crowd to see many of our friends and enjoy the music. Of course the bike that Pat Briggs built was the main attraction. Everyone admired it and the other motorcycles he had lined up. The paint jobs should be mentioned as they are the best around and JT’s is the place for the most outstanding work. We had a very enjoyable day and will be attending again.

ROCKING THE ROAD FOR A CURE

On October 17, 2010 “Rocking the Road for a Cure” 501 (C) non-profit organization for breast Cancer wellness support and services, held its third annual Motorcycle - Classic Car fundraiser at JD’s Place in Farmingdale NY, to provide breast cancer victims with services that are not provided in the normal course of treatment.

The run organized by Rocking the Road founder Dawn Frey, kicked off from Ally Pond Park in Queens where motorcycle and automobile enthusiasts signed in before making their way out toward Jones Beach on the south shore of Long Island. Along the way, riders viewed decorations of pink ribbons that were placed along the bridges leading to Jones Beach commemorating the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk taking place the same day. The Motorcycle / Classic car run ended in Farmingdale NY with an after party at JD’s Place where participants and the public were able to view hundreds of tricked out cars and bikes. Many of the specialized motorcycles and automobiles had custom paint jobs as well as pin-striping, chrome work and high performance engines. Several live bands including Spit, The Oddities, Bad Habits, The Six featuring Jimmy Santoro of Black Betty Fame, the Night Angels and “Bobby Rondinelli” famed drummer who toured with Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult, etc. volunteered their time and provided hard rock entertainment for the party which ran from 12:00pm until 8:00pm. Out in the back yard of JD’s Place was a barbeque with plenty of food for the hungry travelers which included free hamburgers, hotdogs, salads donuts and coffee. In addition to the admission price there were several raffles and a Chinese Auction which helped to draw funds for the many services Rocking the Road for a Cure offers to their clients. This includes personal nutritionists, wellness seminars and in-home services such as: Case Management, Yoga, Rieki, Meditation, Beauty Consultations, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture, Counseling, Recreation Therapy, House Keeping, etc.” Breast cancer survivor Dawn Frey came up with the idea for the nonprofit after experiencing difficulties during her own battle with the disease. She decided that something more could be done about it and figured out a way to give breast cancer sufferers much needed help. She formed Rocking The Road for a Cure as a 501 (C) non-profit organization and then made arrangement with providers that offered the kind of services she found were needed. People interested in learning more can check out their web-site for more information at HYPERLINK “http:// www.rockingtheroadforacure.org” \t “_blank” www.rockingtheroadforacure.org or contact them at rockingtheroadforacure@gmail.com or 516-417-1911.

BLING’S CYCLES

Model 71 ‘Brotherly Love’ After my brother passed a couple of years ago, I cant stop thinking about him and his love for the track and motorcycles in general. So, while I was designing my new frame, I couldnt help but add his board track and road race love into it. He was born in 1971 so hence ‘Model 71’ is the name of the chassis. Then SS Cycles president, Bret Smith, called to invite me to be a builder in the 50th. So, with help from my friend Frank, I said yes to the build. I knew I had to use my new frame and then some crazy shit happened. SS assigns a VIN to each builder for every year they’ve been in buisness (completely random). They sent me a shovel head with the numbers 1971 as the VIN. The rest of what you see is me and my bro, well, there’s also a bit of help from my friends. Hope you like...

AVAILABLE NOW AT YOUR LOCAL HARLEY DEALERS!

NEW SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® STREET PERFORMANCE TUNER Records Downloadable Run-Time Data and Enables Street-Legal ECM Calibrations

The new Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner (P/N 41000008, $329.95) is designed to simplify engine calibrations as EPA-compliant performance modifications are made to EFI-equipped Harley-Davidson models. The kit includes the Vehicle Communications Interface (VCI) module that records up to 15 minutes of run-time data on up to 27 variables that can be downloaded to a PC via an optional USB cable. Using the included software, the motorcycle owner or a technician can evaluate engine operating parameters such as the air/fuel ratio, O2 sensor readings, engine speed and temperature, RPM and vehicle speed, throttle position, spark advance, and many more performance characteristics of the motorcycle. The VCI will also record and display service codes for troubleshooting and diagnostics. With the Screamin’ Eagle® Street Performance Tuner an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer can install the latest ECM calibrations for a motorcycle’s legal state-of-tune for a minor labor fee. Start with a high-flow air cleaner and Street Performance mufflers, and the dealer can upload the calibration that provides the best performance mix. HANDLEBAR SWAP... SOMETIMES NOT THAT EASY Okay, before anyone flips out, I did not forget the BSA project, cause I am still making stuff for it. And yes, I am taking pictures as I go. Next month we will get back to that bike. So the nun meets the grave digger in the cemetery….(sorry wrong article). So this bike comes in the shop, worked on it before, for a handlebar change. Okay, no big deal. Then the customer brings in the bars. All I could say was WOW. This guy went for the really big bucks and bought a set of climax custom controls bars. Man, let me tell ya, these bars are the ticket. If you are not familiar with their bars, you should be. Everything that you are used to being on the handle bars is still there, but it is built INSIDE the bar itself. Throttle cables, wiring, switches, brake line, and a hydraulic clutch line, but best of all… The brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder is built inside the bar itself. This means you do not have or see a master cylinder for either brake or clutch hanging off the bars. All the switches are flush mount on the bar housing. Nothing is hanging out in the breeze. Smooth is the word. The craftsmanship on these bars are beautiful. But this kind of setup does have a price, and it is well worth it. To get it all happening, first you gotta take the existing setup off the bike. This bike is an AMERICAN IRONHORSE which has nice shit on it to start. But they use a whole lot of wiring plugs to tie in all the control stuff at the bars, making it a little busier than it has to be, but I know why they do it. It is simple. You can isolate each control, and each switch for troubleshooting, and/or replacement without a lot of work. So the first thing you do is number all the plugs. In this case there are five. Take the time to make a legend of each plug, and the wire

color in each position in that plug, from both ends of that plug. Only because, as you go through this, you may find out that the wire color on both ends of the plug may not be the same. As in this case. A few of the after market bike companies do not always stick to the normal Harley wire color code. Sometimes it is close, but with different ignitions, different gauges, and the like, they have their own color code. So, this is where the fun begins. On this bike, some of the color code is the same, some of it is not. Some have the same base color, but a tracer color that may throw you off. Now, the new bar setup seems to have a familiar color code, but with this really cool LED gauge assembly, now the colors change, and a couple new ones that really screw you up!!! No problemo... They send you a wiring chart to help you with their changes, but you still gotta match that up with the wiring on the bike.

has not failed me yet.

Not a problem. Put in a call to American Ironhorse, left the same message on three guys’ machines. Asked for a wiring diagram and color code chart for that bike by the serial number. Should be no problem if you can get someone on the phone or at least a return call. So now I’m hanging by my shorts waiting for the stuff I need. I can do it with out them, but it will take more time. A diagram and color code will get it done faster, if I can get it... if not , my old trusty meter

So, what you see in the pictures are the plugs and the wires I have to deal with. So next time you want to change bars, don` think it is a one hour job. When you get to this level it is a lot of work. I am gonna be honest with ya, this is the first set of these bars I have installed, and it will be a learning experience, and I can`t wait to get more into it. You have to take the bars apart to make the throttle cables up, and fill both master cylinders and to bleed them. Can’t wait to see what is in there and how they do it so we will get more into it next time. For now, I am going home. It is late again as usual and I am out of steam for today. If this damn rain ever stops, we can all go for a ride. I am riding to the next show in the Poconos, rain or shine, I don’t give a rats ass any more, gotta go. See ya in church, if I ain`t there... Oh well... j.p.fager 35

A business that began with only 300 sq. feet in a corner of a shopping mall, now supplies printing, laminated plaques and custom framing bikers & bike builders nation wide. With humble beginnings in 1995, the Lamination Preservation gallery has always strives to be different & creative. “Why be the same as everyone else?” asks Scott Clark, Co-Owner of Lamination Preservation. Vanilla is the most popular flavor of ice cream in America. But , Ben & Jerry’s have created hundreds of flavors & combinations over the years. Why? Because variety is the spice of life!” That has always been the driving force & creative edge behind Scott & his wife Michelle Momot. Rather than taking the approach of most galleries, where the framing rarely compliments the artwork & the results are kind of boring, Scott & Michelle take on each project with a radical approach. They tend to use concepts & materials unlike anyone else. With a variety of sub-straights & moldings Scott & Michelle design display pieces with the image or bike in mind. Hundreds of color choices including metallic mats & laminating films such as matte[non-glare], satin & canvas texture. L. P. has been doing work for some of the biggest names in the business, as well as many photographers including the well known Dino Petrocelli. Dino is one of the top five bike photographers in the country & won’t trust his photo’s to anyone else! [dinopetrocelli.com] L. P.’s quality is top notch & their price point is budget friendly. Their product styles go from basic to pimped out... something for everyone. L.P.’s work speaks for itself! Scott & Michelle have supported their community since they began Lamination Preservation, helping countless charities and holding an annual food drive. Most recently they put together [with friends] the Schenectady Thunder ARTBIKE Festival, to benefit the Free Clinic & City Mission, which has become an annual event. If you have a poster, photo or kids artwork, anything, even a magazine article, give Scott or Michelle a call: 518-464-8933. New web site coming soon! Lamin8.com and laminationpreservation.com .
