GALLERY EVENT

GREG HILDEBRANDT

STORY & photos BY MARK MCNABB

FEBRUARY 24 2016 • MORRIS PLAINS, NEW JERSEY

Bobby DiFazio, owner of Garden State Harley-Davidson of Morris Plains, New Jersey opened up his grand showroom to legendary, internationally renowned artist, Greg Hildebrandt, for a full gallery event. Greg Hildebrandt, known for the iconic movie poster for the very first “Star Wars” film, met fans while finishing on site his latest pinup painting. Also on hand was his publicist and business manager, Jean Scrocco, and art assistant and part-time model Angela Fernot. Visitors were able to enter a contest to win a rare 15th anniversary poster of the “Star Wars: A New Hope” movie poster, originally released in 1977 and featuring art by the Brothers Hildebrandt. That rare lithograph was signed by both brothers Bobby Greg and Tim Hildebrandt who passed away in 2006 and is valued at $500. Greg’s list of clients range from Lucas Films, Lord of the Rings calendars, DC and Marvel Comics, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Franklin Mint, to Wizards of the Coast. He has painted in the genres of children’s book illustration, fantasy, science fiction and pin up art. Featured at the opening was many of his works from comic art to a series of 1940’s - 1950’s pin up paintings, which he has titled ‘American Beauties’ that focus on striking models with classic vehicles from cars, planes and motorcycles. On hand were many items for sale from his works from the American Beauties series and his comic art. Fast Lane Biker

Man Of The Cloth

The Year's First Ride

He lived his life With a deep seated need To follow the Truth Of what he believed Followed the ways Of his Fathers past To find out himself If he had what it takes To give it his all All that he had To follow the dream He had since a lad He knew that he might be Ostracized For the beliefs Of his heart and his mind He was aware That the fork in road Had two horizons One above One down below After a long hard journey On the low down road From darkness emerged A man standing tall He captured the diamond He was reaching for With the Patch on his back He was a Man Of The Cloth

Sometimes I envy those of you Who ride every day year round The ones who never have to see All that snow on the ground But what I like about the spring About that first ride every year Is feeling again the wind in my face And that first time thru the gears You'd think I would be used to it But some things always feel new Like leaning in to that first curve Under bright skies clear blue Every year it rekindles my spirit The thunder calms my soul Something I really can't describe But I know it never gets old So today we took that first ride My ol' scoot and me And there are no words to explain The relief of feeling free © JoPo 4/22/15 Road Scribes of America ™ Miles Passed

The Dixie Wind © Eddie Sorez RSOA™ In rain or shine the Dixie wind Beacons its call to ride again It’s like time spent with a long lost friend On a two-lane blacktop that never ends The Dixie wind blows and always provides A paradise worthy of a year round ride A scoot south to the Gulf or to the Atlantic east To the mountains north or west to Alabama with ease So much new for me to see along the way On a short ride or one that lasts all day Sixty-eight degrees in mid January today I left parked motorcycle syndrome far away Much love to my brothers and sisters everywhere The Dixie wind is awesome, I wish I could share

The Road To Spring Among-st the dirt and snow And the potholed road, Silence waits for spring. The first shoots sprint To the end of vine Mother Nature knows its time. You can hear it sputter Choke and start, In the shed back of the barn, The writer warms A full inked pen To write another yarn. Beneath the sheds Layer of sediment dust, Is the shine of chrome No signs of rust, Time to grease and preen And dust her down, Time to fire her up And head for town. Birds sing hard in budding trees Nights are cold But it does not freeze. Rain and sleet mark Winters end The road to spring's Just round the bend.

Charlie Daniel’s Band by Momma Iz & Pit

Riding season is almost upon us and the Pit Stop crew is already looking for event’s and destination’s to take you to. As we know many biker’s are ex-servicemen and women. Many belong to military motorcycle club’s and many ride alone. For whatever reason, many service people have returned from war with many scar’s you can not see. The motorcycle and open road have been their saving grace. Maybe trying to assimilate back into society after being away so long isn’t so easy, but the motorcycle has always offered freedom and a calming of the soul. For some it’s as simple as the solitude of riding alone or the kinship of meeting other biker’s along the way. So this year Pit Stop’s is focusing a little more on our military veteran’s, to honor them and say thank you. As the Pit Stop crew was deciding on our first stop for the season, we happened to be opening up one of our new Henry rifle’s, and as fate would have it, a flyer that came with the Henry had a big picture of Charlie Daniels on it. Along with that photo was a full page story of his patriotism and his organization the The Journey Home Project. After seeing that, Pit, our Photographer/Media Relations Rep arranged for an interview with Charlie Daniel’s. Charlie Daniel’s was so kind, as he told us all about the The Journey Home Project. In his words, the project’s mission statement is to soften the landing for returning vets. Veterans are a proud breed and the project looks to help out with the most basic of needs. Whether it be a bed, a home, or maybe just a friend who will listen. The Journey Home Project makes every effort to identify the organization or organization’s that are best suited for the needs of the soldier such as the Jason foundation which helps prevent suicide. Charlie Daniel’s love of God, country, and our military is the driving force behind his passion for the Journey Home Project. We spoke of several organizations, including two of my favorites, Boots on the Ground and Paws on the Ground. At Charlie Daniel’s request the Pit Stop crew will be escorting two veterans from Boots on the Ground to his April 28th concert at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ. Charlie Daniel’s heart truly is as big as the belt buckles he wears. We hope our readers will join us at the Charlie Daniel’s band concert and in Mr. Daniel’s word’s “lets make the day count”. Fast Lane biker, what lane are you in?

“And I learned early in my life that only two things protected America, the grace of almighty God and the United States Military. It was that way then, it is that way now, and will forever be that way as long as America remains a free and sovereign nation”. Charlie Daniel Fast Lane Biker

KNOW THE LAW T

his month’s article will focus on the United States Supreme Court and the Second Amendment to the Constitution - the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. The Court’s strongest voice for the Second Amendment was, without question, Justice Scalia. He is gone. President Obama has nominated Judge Merrick Garland, a dependable anti-Second Amendment rights Judge. Whether Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican Leader, can be counted on to sit on the Garland nomination until the Election is over is anyone’s guess but, for now, he and the Senate Republicans seem to be holding the line. Presuming they do, then I need to make sure you understand what is at stake when you go to the polls this month and again in November. The Heller case was decided back in 2008. Heller struck down the District of Columbia’s complete ban on legal handgun ownership (criminals owned plenty of guns, illegally, before and after Heller, but that reality won’t stop the gun banners). In 2010, the Supreme Court struck down Chicago’s similar handgun ban in the case of McDonald v. Chicago. BOTH of these cases were decided, and won, by a 5-4 Decision. That’s right, take Judge Scalia’s vote and give it to a liberal Judge and the Right to Keep and Bear Arms only applies to each State’s National Guard. Let that sink in - one vote and the Second Amendment is gone. You need look no further than the Second Amendment cases the Supreme Court has declined to hear since President Obama’s two Supreme Court picks: Sonya Sotomayor and Elena Kagen; have taken the bench. Specifically, in December 2015, the Supreme Court declined to hear an Appeal from the 7th Circuit in Friedman v Highland Park, in which the 7th Circuit allowed Chicago’s “assault weapons” ban to stand. Taken together, Heller and Friedman mean that residents of Chicago get to own handguns but they are not allowed to own “assault weapons”. Similarly, in June 2015, the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from the 9th Circuit in Jackson v. City and County of San Francisco, which upheld San Francisco’s law: (1) requiring any firearm not being physically carried within a home to be in a locked container or disabled by a state approved trigger lock; and (2) banning the sale of hollow point ammunition. In upholding these laws, the 9th Circuit held that it was ok to burden the Second Fast Lane Biker

BY ATTORNEY STEVE STAMBAUGH Amendment right because the laws did not entirely destroy the right to keep and bear arms. Under this interpretation, the Court could rule that a Daisy Red Rider BB gun satisfies my Second Amendment right! Of course, the anti-gunners don’t want us to have any firearms of any kind. Only the State and the Federal government get that right in their world view. As if this was not enough to consider, take note that Justice Kennedy, another pro-Second Amendment vote on the Court, will be 80 years old when the next President takes office. That being the case, the next President will likely pick two Supreme Court Justices. One last thing to consider about the Supreme Court: President Obama has ruled by Executive fiat more than any other President in recent history. In so doing, he has also lost more Supreme Court challenges to his edicts than any other President since FDR. Specifically, President Obama has won less than half (47%) of the cases he took to the Supreme Court. President Kennedy had the next lowest victory rate at 58%. By way of comparison, President Reagan had a victory rate of 73%. Call them whatever you want, liberals, progressives, socialists or communists, if they control the Supreme Court and the White House, Congress will be irrelevant. The future of the Country I love hangs in the balance. For the first time in my memory Pennsylvania’s voters will play a role in a Presidential Primary. When you pull that lever, know that you will be selecting a President that will decide not only the future of the Second Amendment, but the future of our Republic. Turning to matters closer to home and staying with politics, take note that ABATE’s Annual Motorcyclist Rights Rally is May 23rd at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. I am proud to be a ABATE Life Member. I take my choice not to wear a helmet very seriously. Like any “right”, the right to chose can be lost at any time. If you are not an ABATE Member join and be counted. www.YCHDOA.com See you on the road

Molded of hard-coated polycarbonate, the windscreen has an opaque black finish. The Low Profile Windscreen fits 2015-later Road Glide models. APRIL, 2016
