Hello everybody and and welcome to the December issue of Fast Lane Biker. It’s hard to believe Christmas is here again already. The next time I sit down to tap out this article we will have a new President in the White House. Let’s hope he follows through with his promises and we can get everything back on track but it’s not gonna be easy. A few updates on thing going on around the Tri-State area. This month the Javits Center Bike Show is going on in NYC, it draws a record number of people every year. Also, this year it seems the Easy Rider tour is making a stop at the Atlantic City convention Center in February. We’re looking forward to that event and Lutz, our photographer / reporter, will go out to cover the Easy Rider show in Ohio. As always next issue is going to be the annual year in review. Then, I guess it will be time to start talking about Daytona bike week.

1st Annual Appalachian MotoJam

I

’ve been in the biker community most of my life, and have been writing for and about the biker community for many years. We as the Pit Stop crew of Fast Lane Biker go from one event to the next, some are police escorted, some are not, some are club events, charity events, and some are big name events.

Some day’s I step back and wonder if the biker community is changing or am i? Is everything we do now controlled by organizing, permit’s, permission and conceding to what is termed as “the establishment”. I thought black was worn cause it didn’t show the dirt, and i thought we stood for freedom, guts and glory, and the willingness to fight for the same. I thought we bucked the system system when the system needed bucking. So every now and then i wonder where those bikers are that still wrench, that build and ride a rat bike, that have nothing on their bike but a bed roll, and who just wanna ride and find comfort with very little rules. Well i think Pit found it, the 1st Annual Appalachian MotoJam. A get down and dirty, pin your throttle, bound for glory event, promoted by none other then Kenny Bounjourno from the infamous Strange Day’s old time motorcycle event. Ken has been putting on Strange Day’s in Vernon, NJ for 6 yrs. A motorcycle camp out with awards for who rode furthest, a biker build off that he shares with Matt Rush from Rush Cycles. The Appalachian MotoJam has a little something for everyone with dirtbike’s, dresser’s, rat bikes, chopper’s all raced on the same track, and the rules are their are no rules be safe and have fun. It was a weekend campout with food vendors, bands, and a bon fire held at Oakland Valley Raceway in Cuddebackville, NY. It was just a free style weekend and swap meet, with the rain holding out for most of the day. So, to answer my question where are the bikers that may or may not have a new dresser in their garage, aren’t pro and just wanna race their dirtbike or homemade chopper with no pressure or ridiculous rules or need a purse with 10 grand in it for spare parts. Its here at Oakland Valley Raceway under the name Appalachian MotoJam. Harley’s racing Harley’s, Harley’s racing Honda’s, Honda’s racing Kawasaki’s, sporty racing sporty, chicks racing and running with the pack, it was just a camping, racing, fun kinda weekend.

Last Call To Ride

Fred Steele © 10/12/2015 Road Scribes of America ™ 1903 ... William and Arthur created a world... where horses were traded for tires that swirled. They had no idea, the impact it made... how long it would last, this wonderful trade... They just knew that riding was part of their soul... They wanted to share this and make others whole. They felt it was needed for progress and such... They felt it improved life for all very much... The jobs this created, the business it grew... the largest industry... a decade or two... By doing what they did, legends created... still they kept rollin'...never sedated... These days a part... of so many worlds... rubber side down as throttles get curled... From Workers to Veterans...many enjoy... They dreamt of the ride as small girls or boys... They're happy they found that part of life... the freedom it gives... relieving their strife... They share it with others and do have fun... so thank those two men... Harley-Davidson... ... © Panhead Rod - RSOA ™

Octobers in color Decorated for fall Riders cherish the season Before winters first call. Back roads and highways Hear the rumble like bees Amid the swirling of leaves From summers green trees. Through cities and turnpikes Down old country roads Past farmers and farm truck Out hauling their loads. Past corn stocks and pumpkins In a cloudy filled sky Past the wilting of flowers That are waiting to die. Its like someone in a barroom Shouted last call For its just like Hog heaven The last ride in the fall.

YCHDOA TOY RUN - 2016 NOVEMBER 2016 • YORK, PA

PHOTOS & STORY by Attorney Steve Stambaugh

The York County Harley Davidson Owner’s Association (“YCHDOA”) held its 20th Annual David Milliken Derr Jr. Toy Run on Saturday, November 5, 2016. The Ride started in York and took scenic roads through Lancaster on the way to the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital at the Hershey Medical Center. We had a high temperature of 60° (although it felt much warmer) with clear and gorgeous skies and Fall colors. 517 bikes and 766 people made the Ride. This year’s donation to Hershey Medical Center totaled $18,691.26. YCHDOA has donated over $400,000.00 since the Run’s inception 20 years ago. As usual, the Run was led by Santa and Mrs. Claus followed by Santa’s “sleigh” which was filled with toys. The bulk of the donations, due to storage issues at Hershey Hospital resulting from the size and success of the Event, was in the form of a monetary donation so that the Hospital has sufficient funds to purchase toys to give to the children throughout the year until next year’s Toy Run. The monetary donation is also used to fund events for the children that all of us take for granted such as pizza parties, sub parties and movie nights in addition to providing telephone calling cards so that the children are able to call their parents when their stays last several weeks and the parents must return to their homes across our Great Nation. Refreshments were provided by donations from YCHDOA, Starbucks, Maple Donuts and 105.7 The X. The first 500 registrants received a free 20th Anniversary Patch. Several Miracle Network Children, former patients, were present, as they transitioned from patients, to supporters and, in some cases, to riders/passengers. The Run was led by The Guardian Knights - a contingent of motorcycle police officers, volunteers all, who blocked and controlled intersections on the way from York to Hershey. Additional blocking was provided by the American Legion Riders, Pennsylvania Jeeps Association, the Christian Motorcycle Association, YCHDOA and the NDHP Motorcycle Fraternity. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who made the Ride. See you next year, Attorney Steve Stambaugh. Fast Lane Biker

KNOW THE LAW BY ATTORNEY STEVE STAMBAUGH

F

being said, it is unclear how the DUI Laws will adapt to Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act as those implementing regulations have yet to be drafted, the issue being whether the operator is under the “active” influence of marijuana. Time will tell on this issue. Notably, prescription drugs not prescribed to you likewise take you to Tier 3 (as they are illegal as to you). Last, prescription drugs prescribed to you but which have rendered you impaired likewise take you to Tier 3. The other critical factor in Pennsylvania’s DUI law is whether the charged offense is your first, second, third, fourth or more offense. The more you repeat offend, the harder the law will hit you in terms of mandatory minimum license suspensions and mandatory minimum periods of imprisonment. Other important factors are whether you caused an accident, whether anyone was injured, whether minor children were present in your vehicle, and many others. Suffice it to say that Pennsylvania’s DUI law is designed to hit hard and there are many factors that the District Attorney can use to escalate your charges and thus your penalties. Bottom line, plan ahead so you have a designated driver ready to go. I will cover the ARD Program and the mandatory minimums in next month’s article. Last and again, as always, if you haven’t joined ABATE, do so. They are the Biker’s Voice in Harrisburg.

irst a BIG THANK YOU to every one who voted Trump. Together we pulled off the upset of the Century. I can only hope that Trump does not compromise by giving in to the Establishment Republicans, who will place him under pressure the likes of which we can not imagine I am sure. Worse, if you think the mainstream media was against Trump during the election, hold on because, if the first few weeks are any indication of the future, President Elect Trump will endure an across the board assault unprecedented even for a corrupt media. Second, another BIG THANK YOU to every one who rode with YCHDOA for the 20th Annual Toy Run to the Penn State at Hershey Children’s Hospital. Turning back to the present, while President Elect Trump sets about trying to fix virtually every aspect of our National Agenda, you and I have to worry about the Home Front. Being the Christmas and New Year’s Season, now is the time for a refresher on Pennsylvania’s DUI Laws. Pennsylvania law classifies offenders by the level of their BAC (blood alcohol content), which is separated into 3 tiers: Tier 1 is the “lowest” rate and covers BAC’s of .08% to .099%; Tier 2 is called a “high”“ rate and covers BACs of .10% to .159%; and Tier 3 is the “highest” rate and covers BACs of .16% and above. For perspective, a 12 oz. can of beer (4-4.5% alcohol), a 4 oz. glass of wine (15-20% alcohol), or a 1.5 oz. shot (30-50% alcohol) each = .04%. Keep in mind that any illegal drugs take you straight to Tier 3 even if you are not under the active influence of the drug. In other words, if any illegal drug is still in your system, be it from 3 days ago, 2 weeks ago, even a month ago, even a trace amount, you are still DUI! That DECEMBER, 2016
