Hello everybody and welcome to the February issue of Fast Lane Biker. We are glad to say that winter is almost over. Next time I type my Letter From The Publisher, Daytona bike week will be just around the corner. This year, Easyrider has decided to make Atlantic City a stop on their bike show tour. They say they have wanted to add a northeast show to the tour for some time now and Atlantic City seems to be a good fit. It’s only a one day show on Saturday February 4 th. The only other show thats two days is Columbus, Ohio. They’re hoping to turn the AC event into a two day show in the future. So get down to Atlantic city and support the show.

Ride to skate 10 story ridin’ & pics by Lutz

May 15, 2016 • FDR skate park, Philadelphia pennsylvania

There’s no lying when I say that I’m a fan of Philadelphia and it’s bike scene. Riding through some rough streets in it’s different areas… cobblestone streets rattling the fillings out of your mouth and setting off car alarms on tight backstreets. Philly has some of the coolest bike shops opening their doors on the first friday during the year, as well as having the the biggest motorcycle toy run... how’s that from the city of brotherly love! Some things last and some things fade away as well... sad to say one of the top motorcycle meets in Philadelphia has gone this year. “Ride to Skate” had a 10 year good streak, with each year getting bigger and badder! Lots of participation on this one from many riding in from different states to hang and show of their motorcycles of different makes and riders of all age. The event was a word of mouth meeting and bikes rolled in and left all day. Choppers, stock, American and metric all showing their owners personality built into each machine! And what a setting to have it! right under highway I-95 at the FDR skatepark. I’m definitely gonna miss this one, lots of stuff too see and checkout. Here’s to a great run and hoping for something to maybe surface like this event in the future... it’s going be tough to top it...but you never know!

HARLEY FACTORY TEAM GOES ALL-IN WITH

Fast, liquid-cooled and with big shoes to fill: The Harley-Davidson® XG750R motorcycle will be the only bike raced by the Harley-Davidson® Factory Flat Track Racing Team in 2017. The new flat-tracker will replace the HarleyDavidson® XR750, the most successful flat-track racing motorcycle of all time. The Harley-Davidson Factory Team will contest the 2017 American Flat Track (ATF) racing series and ESPN’s X Games Minneapolis Harley-Davidson® Flat Track Racing event exclusively aboard the XG750R bikes. The racing season opens during Daytona Bike Week at the March 16 ATF Daytona TT on a new circuit featuring a jump to be constructed inside Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. “There is extraordinary energy building behind the new American Flat Track series and after decades of XR750 dominance, it’s time to bring a new level of performance and technology to the track with the Harley-Davidson be Announced XG750R,” said Harley-Davidson Vice President and Managing Director U.S. Mike Kennedy. “The new Daytona TT X Games promises to be a thrilling event. If you are in Daytona for Bike Week, ride to the race and help the Factory Team kick off an exciting season.” With a custom chassis purpose-built for flat track racing, the XG750R flat tracker is powered by a race-modified, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 750cc Revolution X™ V-Twin engine originally engineered for theHarley-Davidson Street® 750, a motorcycle designed for maximum urban maneuverability with rebellious Dark Custom™ attitude. “Unlike our competitors, we are going flat track racing behind an American-made production engine,” said Kennedy. “The XG750R is a purebred racing motorcycle, but its modified engine is based on the same Revolution X V-Twin anyone can buy from a Harley-Davidson dealer in a Street 750 motorcycle, an engine designed by Harley-Davidson engineers and assembled at Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations in Kansas City. There’s a direct link from the Street 750 to the XG750R flat tracker the Factory Team will be racing for a championship, and that link is our passion for performance.” The XG750R raced through a development season in 2016 alongside the air-cooled Harley-Davidson Factory Team XR750 motorcycles. The XR750 has carried racers to countless victories and 37 AMA Grand National championships in 44 seasons of competition. That winning DNA is the foundation of the XG750R, an evolutionary step into the future of flat-track racing. Its race-tuned Revolution X engine and racing chassis were developed in collaboration with Vance & Hines Motorsports. The XG750R flat tracker motorcycle is not a production model. The 750cc XG Revolution X V-Twin engine is for sale through Harley-Davidson dealers today and can be modified for racing use by aspiring dealers and privateers. The 2017 Harley-Davidson Factory Flat Track Team will be revealed during live ABC network coverage of ESPN’s X 21 Games Aspen on Saturday, January 28 at 2:44 p.m. ET. www.fastlanebikernj.com

The Seaboard chapter of the AMCA annual swap meet 2016 March 20th 2016 • Double Nickel Brewing Co., Pennsauken New jersey

story ridin’ and pics by Lutz

I’ve been to many a swap meet all over the place but never been to one in a brewery! But to much a surprise it was a very well put together event (no samples though!!) Put together by Seaboard chapter of the AMCA, who have been putting together some great swap meets for some time now and always have a great selection of stuff to buy and checkout. This one was extra special with a backdrop of an actually functional brewery. Seeing barrels and vats mixed in with motorcycle parts was cool to experience. Some antique motorcycles where displayed inside and out. Many vendors with lots of bike parts and motorcycle related items where there and yours if the price was right! It was a good way to start off the year inside in the warmth checking out everything, catching up and talking to friends about the years upcoming events and so on. Thanks to Double Nickel Brewing Co. for allowing it to happen at the facility and here’s to hoping that next years is held there again. It was definitely something new in my book! Fast Lane Biker

PONDERING?

His thoughts as heavy as the humid night air Searching for an answer to sooth his soul The question that had him pondering life Was how could a man his age feel so old He wondered: Could it have been all the partying? Could hard work have diminished his years? Could it be the fights that put aches in his bones? Could it have been living free of fear? Could it be the nights of sleeping on the ground? Could it be the downtime that he served? Could it have come from trying to please everyone? This included the family he loved Could it be the nights the wind chilled to his bones? Could it be the limp from a road rash scar? Could it just be the gray starting to change his long hair? Could it simply be life’s hassles from destiny’s star? A cool breeze hit him as he rode through the bottom He smiled at the relief from the dense heat The answer was as clear as the moon above No matter the age, being a BIKER is hard to beat © Bob “Bikerwolf” Bryant RSOA ™

She looked me up an down, then with a frown She sniffed haughtily the air. I heard her say, “It would be a nice day, If that scruffy biker were not there!” I sat astride, my shiny Harley ride, and hid the anger behind my smile. As I looked her over, leering like a gypsy rover But with all the flair of biker style. I saw her blink, when I gave her a wink. “The audacity!” she stuttered “You biker dudes, are OH! so rude” “And you are a prude.” under my breath I muttered. Upon her face a stare, as if I should care. “So would you like a ride?” said I. She turned ashen white, really quite a sight. and she stammered, “Why?” The reasons I give, are the way I live. and these are but two that I share. On the road without a care, the wind in my hair. And the thrill could be yours, if only you dare. She smiled just like a child, but I knew she was riled. for she still looked the same she sighed” you rejoiced, when we were divorced.” “what the hell” she whispered “it’s part of the game.”

New Day Dawning

Calming Effect no destination if I could ride the wind this fever would die down I'd find new roads to travel somewhere to belong suck the night air in and listen to the song rubber on the gravel maybe a hundred strong ya, if I could ride tonight I'd let my hair blow free go where the road leads until the morning's light

Years and miles Have taken their toll Upon this graybeard's body Yet still I ride Into the cold Of a New Year days arrival No idea if the road ahead Will be graveled or paved Only way I'll ever know Is by shifting through the gears Through blood sweat and tears Past pain loss and sorrow And roads once traveled alone Forward motion in the saddle Into the new day that was dawned

The throttle’s meant to be twisted and my mind was made to race but somehow twisting that throttle sets my mind to a calmer pace asphalt hums a song beneath me pipes render a solid rhythm and the freedom of the road being traveled is the freedom I am given I’m thankful I ride and hear the sounds that only a two wheel ride sings feeling the calm, enjoying the freedom riding the steel horse brings

KNOW THE LAW BY ATTORNEY STEVE STAMBAUGH

F

motorist coverage are essential for Riders as these coverages are the ONLY way we can protect ourselves from the financial devastation that motorists cause when we eat the asphalt because they “didn’t see us”. Here is what you need to know: - you must have uninsured (UM) and underinsured (UIM) motorist coverage; - make sure that your UM / UIM coverage is equal to your liability coverage and then get those limits as high as you can afford to take them - you get what you pay for; and - if you have more than one bike, make sure your policy has “stacked” UM / UIM coverage, which is also referred to as “stacking”. Proper UM/UIM coverage is expensive when it comes to motorcycle policies but you are worth it. If you have any doubt, imagine tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills coupled with an inability to return to work for months, if ever, or, worse, you go down and your loved ones are left to face life without you. If you have questions about your policy, call my office and either I or a member of my staff will walk you through your questions - no charge. Last, remember that this is the time of year to get your bike worked on. Helps the Dealers and wrench turners and you don’t lose any saddle time. And again, as always, if you haven’t joined ABATE, do so. They are the Biker’s Voice in Harrisburg.

ebruary is a slow month all the way around. That being the case, it’s a good month to pull your motorcycle insurance policy out and actually take a look at what you are, or are not, paying for. It always surprises me how many people have absolutely no idea what their policy covers, and what it does not, until after a crash. The time to figure that out is before a crash. So, you need to pull your motorcycle policy out and compare it to what I am about to tell you about uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. UN-insured motorist coverage is coverage you pay for when a driver who has no insurance whatsoever (i.e., is UN-insured) causes you an injury. If that happens, the un-insured motorist coverage is ALL the money you will have available to you for compensation for your injuries, for your medical bills, lost wages, etc. UNDER-insured motorist coverage is coverage you pay for when a driver who has some insurance but not enough to FULLY compensate you for your injuries (i.e., is UNDER-insured), causes you an injury. If that happens, the universe of monies available to you for compensation for your injuries are the combined amounts of the adverse driver’s liability policy limits plus your underinsured motorist coverage. This brings me to the real world. According to the Insurance Institute of America, 12.6% of the drivers on the road have no auto insurance at all despite that the law requires drivers to maintain minimum amounts of liability insurance. 12.6% works out to one in every eight drivers you pass having no insurance! Of those that do have insurance, current Pennsylvania law only requires $15,000.00 per person in liability coverage. They do not have to have one penny more to be legal. So, if your case is worth more than $15,000.00 (or whatever the tortfeasor’s coverages happen to be) then the driver is under-insured. What this means to you and me is that un-insured and under-insured Fast Lane Biker

See you on the road.
