Hello everyone and welcome to the June issue of FAST LANE BIKER . There’s a lot going on around the Tr-State area. Plenty of events are taking place, mostly annual events but there are a few new ones too. From what I’m hearing the cold snap we had last month is out of here and warmer weather is here to stay. Were gearing up for a long summer here at FAST LANE BIKER. As we look at the events calendar. It looks like it’s pretty full all the way through the middle of October. So get out there and support your local dealer or shop .

Benjamin moore memorial scholarship/poker run story ridin’ and pics by Lutz

August 16th, 2015 • fieldsboro, new jersey

I can’t imagine nothing can hurt as much as the loss of a child and especially one lost to the casualties of war. The Moore family has endured just that with the loss of their son Army SPC Benjamin Moore. So I’m honored in helping to keep his name alive with Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 NJ and many of his friends and family (which many are veterans too!). Yearly, the Rolling Thunder Chapter 2 NJ hosts a poker run in honor of his memory. The proceeds benefit graduating firefighters, EMTs and BRHs seniors... hows that for giving back to the community? Last years poker run was held at the Cool Cricket in Fieldsboro, New Jersey, a popular bar that also caters to a motorcycle crowd. Rolling in on my bike it looked like it was going to be another good one! Many bikes, vendors and people were out to show support, even some friends and family from Canada came down..now that’s a ride! The smell of food was inviting while across the street some of Benjamin’s friends brought out several custom cars and trucks for display. Under the overhead a word of silence was had as well as words from the Moore family thanking all that came out. As motorcycles came and went that day it was nice again to know that when there was an event that needed support bikers are always there to lend a hand! Fast Lane Biker

2016 Monster Energy Supercross MetLife Stadium by Momma Iz & Pit

Spring was in the air and so were some of the best motorcross racers in the country ready to battle it out at the Monster Energy Supercross Series in MetLife Stadium on April 30th. The Fast Lane Biker Pit Crew was there meeting with the racers and fans and hangin’ out at what is termed as the largest “Pit Party” around and “The Pit & Momma Iz” were in the house. A big shout out to Feld Motorsports for hosting this great event. The day started out in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium very early in the day, where racers, fans, and tailgater’s were gathered for what seemed like an endless program of events. Inside the “Pit Party” the rider’s met with fan’s signing autograph’s and taking picture’s. All around the lot were some of the most tricked out rigs with sponsors like Honda, Ktm, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc. There mechanic’s were busy prepping the bikes for the race and taking care of last minute detail’s. As we walked the lot we were met by riders like Reed, Webb, Barcia, Dungey, Roczen, Tickle, and Stewart. The smiles on the kids faces meeting there favorite riders and taking picture’s was priceless and the reason we love our job at Fast Lane Biker so much. There was something always going on in the “Pit” as bikes soared through the air, Baja trucks smoked there tires and did donut’s, arm wrestler’s wrestled, and trial’s bikes did some of the most amazing trick’s. Over by the Honda truck they setup a track so kids could try out the latest Honda motorcycle’s had to offer. All of the top manufacturer’s were there showing off there latest and best. Even the Monster Energy girls were on hand making sure no one was thirsty. Inside the stadium, after the “Pit Party” was over it was showtime. The American flag was stretched by bearers and the color guard stood at attention as the National Anthem was sang and fireworks boomed into the night. You were truly proud to be an American at that moment. Fans cheered as there favorite racers lined up at the gate and the energy level in the stadium started to rise. I could see the determination in their eyes through my long lense as they waited for the gate to drop. Then, in an instant time seems to go into slow motion as the gate dropped, and with a twist of the throttle all hell breaks loose. Being in the lead into the first turn is a prize of sorts Fast Lane Biker

as all the racer’s bottleneck into it hoping not to crash. From there it’s a series of whoop’s, tabletop jumps, and turn’s with each racer using there best skills to get to the checkered flag. Watching these young men soar through the air you soon realize these are the best of the best and a sense of pride warms over you. Looking at the small children watching closely and seeing the sparkle in their eye’s hoping someday they too could fly through the air with nothing but instinctive skill and a dream to be the best that they can be. It was a look ma I’m not on my cell phone kinda of day. Blue skies and the smell of race fuel, and to those of us who know what I’m talking about, it was a great day. My hat’s off to Ken Roczen #94 and Malcolm Stewart #50 for taking podium. Good luck to all racer’s in Las Vegas on Oct 15th and the race to the cup.

2016 Whittingham Traditional 3-D Archery Rendezvous by Momma Iz & Pit

This month’s Pit Stop was the Appalachian Bowmen of Sussex County’s annual 3 day Whittingham Traditional 3-D Archery Rendezvous. The annual shoot in its 24th year was held in the beautiful 1,930 acre Whittingham Wildlife Management Area also home to the Appalachian Bowmen founded in 1967. The Appalachian Bowmen are dedicated to the enjoyment and challenges of archery and educating those who enjoy the sport. The club membership consist’s of men, women, and jr member’s. There clubhouse includes a 40 yard range with state of the art targets, moving targets, and 3-D’s. They also offer a kid’s night where there taught proper archery technique, respect for the sport, and most of all how to have fun. Let’s not forget league night where you can test your skills against some of the best Archers in the area. The club is always looking for new members and can be reached at 973-383-6787 or e-mail appalachianbowmen@hotmail.com. The spring shoot is a Traditional bow only event. This event is the largest in the area and is organized by the members of the Appalachian Bowmen. For an entire week prior to the event all hands are on deck putting this event together. Work parties are formed utilizing the skills of there members and probationary members. Three ranges have been created where shooters walk trails, find targets, and shoot. The targets are strategically set up to be shot from in between trees, behind rocks, and on hilltops. These targets range from Deer, Bear, Zombies, Polar Bears, Flying Fish, Bison, Elk, Panthers, Turkeys, and even a Dinosaur. The kids have there own personal range where they can test there skills too. All of this outdoors on this amazing oversized acreage. Vendors are set up in the clubhouse selling items from bow socks, arrows, survival gear, and of course bows. A catering truck is also on sight serving all types of delicious food and drinks. They have door prizes and raffles are won all weekend. Tents Fast Lane Biker

and Rv’s are setup on top of the hills overlooking all the trails, so you can camp and shoot. Archery lovers from all over this country come for this event as well as other countries too. The trails are long and the fun is all day, and it doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. 3-D Raccoon targets are set up with glow in the dark eyes, and you have to use your skills to guess where its body is and just shoot. Archery golf is another big hit, where the shooter shoots far into the air trying to get close to the flag just like in golf. The spring shoot was an awesome sight to see. Men, women, and children, walking around with bows, knives, quivers, just having fun participating in a sport they love. If using you bow only during the hunting season isnt enough for you, come check out the Appalachian Bowmen of Sussex County. Don’t be fooled by their name, women are welcome, children are welcome, couples are welcome, everyone is welcome.

KNOW THE LAW F

irst, let me say that I am writing this article after watching the sun rise in Phoenix Arizona on a bike trip with my step daughter. I’ll have some pix for you in the next article but take a moment to remember why we ride, carve some time way in the saddle, and rejuvenate your soul. Now for the legal stuff. This month I will focus on the insurance side of riding, which is what you need to do before you spin those wheels. It may not be the most interesting read, but important stuff seldom is. Ok then - medical bills. If we go down we will likely end up with huge medical bills. That is a fact of life when we ride. When you drive your car the law requires that you have a minimum of $5,000.00 in something called first party medical benefit coverage. The law does not require that for bikers. In fact, insurance companies are not required to offer riders any first party medical benefit coverage (formerly known as “no fault” coverage). Have I seen motorcycle insurance policies that have a smidgen of first party medical benefit coverage, yes, but it is rare, it is very expensive, and those policies usually only have $1,000.00 or so in coverage which will pay for your ambulance ride and the first few minutes in the Emergency Room, and that’s about it. That means that your bills default to your health insurance, if you have it. When it comes to health insurance, almost all health insurance companies nowadays have a right of subrogation, which means that they get reimbursed out of your recovery. A far worse trend that I am seeing more of is that some health insurance companies have exclusions (they will not pay) if you are injured in what they call high risk activities such as riding, sky diving, scuba diving, 4 wheeling, snowmobiling, etc. The next question is, what about those people that either don’t have health insurance or got screwed by an exclusion? The bills pile up and you are on the hook to pay them. The only thing you can do to protect yourself against all of these problems is to get the most uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage you can afford, which is a topic I have discussed previously. For Fast Lane Biker

BY ATTORNEY STEVE STAMBAUGH those who haven’t read those articles I will soon create a page on my web site that will have past articles for you to read. Next I have two updates on pending laws in Harrisburg, one I love, one I don’t. House Bill 950 - Ride On Red. We need this law, which does what it’s Title says, we get to Ride on Red when our bikes fail to trigger a light change. This happened to me twice last night here in Phoenix. I eventually blew the red both times. Not sure if it was legal or not but let’s make it legal in PA. The other Bill is Senate Bill 928 - I don’t like this Bill. The current minimum required liability coverages in Pennsylvania are $15,000.00 / $30,000.00 per person / per occurrence with $5,000.00 in property damage. The Senate wants to increase these limits to $25,500.00 / $50,000.00 per person / per occurrence with $15,000.00 in property damage. I view this proposed change as nothing less than making the bulk of Pennsylvania drivers pay higher premiums to underwrite liability claims in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. If you don’t want your insurance rates to spike to underwrite liability claims in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, then you need to call your House Representatives now. Lat and as always, please check out my clubs www.ychdoa.com and www.ndmpmf.com for Rides. NDHP’s Summer Run in Potter County (God’s Country) is the same weekend as Gettysburg Bike Week and it’s always gorgeous. So, if you want to Ride versus walk in the sweltering heat and dodge cops in and around Gettysburg, head to the mountains and Ride. Please also remember the American Legion Riders, Red Lion Post 543, Tech Sgt. Daniel Zerbe Ride on July 30th. Last, if you haven’t joined ABATE, do so. They are the Biker’s Voice in Harrisburg. www.YCHDOA.com See you on the road
