This will be all brands, Harleys, sport bikes... The top bike will be picked to be in the magazine for 2012 either as a feature bike or in the Babe of the Month section. THE BIG ONE scene is that it’s “pure.”

Now that Daytona Bike Week has come and gone, everyone who rides has officially broke their cherry for the season. For us, the next big adventure and rally is Sturgis Bike Week in August. Not only is it our favorite but it’s also where we met several years ago. For all of you who have never been... Sorry. Do whatever it takes to get there. The best way to sum up Sturgis is from a passage in my book “The Bikers Hand Book, Becoming Part of the America Motorcycle Culture”. BTW buy a copy if you want to read more, baby needs a new pair of riding boots.

When I finally got off the exit and entered the town of Sturgis, I realized that it was nothing more than a very small, unassuming town in the middle of pretty much nowhere. I can’t remember much more about that first day, but what I did know was that Sturgis, South Dakota, spoke to me. It was everything I had ever imagined about being part of the American motorcycle culture, and I had only been there for about two hours.

The first year I went to Sturgis was 1996 and I was immediately overwhelmed by the bright, blue, clear sky. It was stunning and I’m not the kind of guy to say that very much, you know what I mean? The next thing that hit me was the smell of the air. The only way to describe it is clean.

Well if this doesn’t get you to make the trip, at least come out to see our brand new Stripperglide. Yep we’ve stripped down, pun intended, our bagger with the pole on it and our boy, Timmy Kirsch, is going balls out on a rebuild, think meaner nastier strip club on wheels, two wheels that is.The big rig at the world famous Buffalo Chip and we will have additional locations in Glencoe and Leeds. I have never felt freer on a bike than at that very moment. There’s no helmet law in Sturgis and the perfect temperature combined with the clean smelling air, blue sky and the vast wide-open space was purely spiritual. The ride from the airport to the town of Sturgis was only thirty or forty miles, but it already ranked up there with one of the best rides of my life. Little did I know that the absolute best ride of my life was going to happen in the upcoming week. Nearing the exit for Sturgis, I remember smelling smoke from the surrounding campgrounds and seeing the traffic slow down to a complete stop as hundreds of bikers lined up and waited to exit. The best word I can use to describe the whole

STREET SMART CYCLES Wildcat PJ & Charlie, of Street Smart Cycles, have been building wild bikes together for about 18 years. This one was PJ’s dream bike and together they made it happen. It took about a year between working on other customers’ rides but the result is what you see. Check out the Wildcat car emblem from his grandfather’s car and the solid brass dice from his grandmother’s Atlantic City trips, since they have both passed on PJ wanted to incorporate these mementos on the bike in there memory. This bike includes all of the typical Street Smart Goodies such as: The side mounted battery box, chain fork stops, cut down early sporty front end (made to fit big twin neck), and custom ‘long’ fish tail exhaust. The typical response I get is… “I have full coverage”! Confident that this means that they are fully covered for any loss suffered. Unfortunately, when I follow up with; • How much liability coverage do you have?; • Do you have Comprehensive and Collision coverage?; • Do you have medical coverage on your motorcycle policy? and most importantly; • Do you have uninsured/underinsured coverage on your policy and if so, in what amounts? Most clients are unable to answer these questions and often are extremely disappointed to learn that although they thought they had full protection, what they have is State minimum coverage, which provides little or no protection to them, contrary to what they may have been led to believe. I bring this up now, before we get too far into the season, because I want all of you to look and see what type of coverage you have, rather than relying upon your understanding that you may be “fully covered”. What most believe is “full coverage” and the reality of being fully covered, are worlds apart. Being “fully insured” means your insurance policy should provide not only liability coverage, but also collision, comprehensive, uninsured and underinsured benefits and in some cases, medical coverage. I also want to clarify a prevailing myth; which is; if you are involved in an accident and it is the other persons fault, their insurance company will automatically pay for the damage to your bike and all of your medical bills. THIS COULD NOT BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

No matter how the accident occurred, the other insurance company does not owe you a duty of care, as you are not their insured. Ultimately, if they agree that their customer is at fault, they will usually pay for the damage to your vehicle within a few weeks. However, they will not pay for your medical bills until the entire matter is resolved. Therefore, if you do not have health insurance or medical benefits on your policy, your bills will be outstanding and quickly become delinquent. This is the concept generally referred to as “nofault”, which means that no matter who is at fault, we are all initially responsible for our own medical bills. I urge everyone to stop relying upon bad advice, or your own misunderstanding that your coverage is sufficient and take five minutes to examine your policy to make certain that you are truly “fully insured”. On another note, we recently attended Atlantic City Bike Week at the Atlantic City Convention Center on May 20-22 and Burlington Bike Night in Burlington, NJ on June 4th, and for the first time, we plan on attending the Freemansburg Motorcycle Hillclimb and Bike Show in Bethlehem, PA. Finally, the PA. Senate recently passed a bill that will allow for the sale of motorcycles on Sundays. Although not yet signed into law, it appears to have bipartisan support in the house and is likely to become law in the near future. I think this is welcome news to all of us who will appreciate being able to shop for a motorcycle on Sundays. A WHILE BACK... A WHILE BACK, LOBSTER JOHN (one of our customers and yes we have goofy names for all of yous) got off his IRONHEAD and stepped up to a SHOVEL. Within days of gettin’ it home it wasn’t long before he brought it by for the once over and to start changing it around. He wanted to give it that “OLD SCHOOL CHOPPER” look without digging deep into his pockets, now this was a ‘75 FX with what appeared to be an old PAUGHCO springer - bare bones, no frills. But John can’t leave nothing alone, so he started off with a strutless fender, a set of Z bars to throw on that springer, and to top it off he wanted a foot clutch with a slap stick shifter. We may have done an article on this project previously, I can’t remember theres been so many we’ve lost track. Anyway, he’s back and he wants to mount a coffin tank to replace the old fatbobs. Easy enough, so we got started on it right away. With the stock tanks removed we started hacking up his frame, with a sawsall we removed the front and rear tank mounts - the front one took a little longer because its a big casted lug which also mounts the dash plate. Once they were off we grinded them down so they were smooth, now we can start fitting the tank and see what its gonna take to finish the job. Well the rear mount on the tank was too long to clear the frame where the two seat rails meet the backbone (it was too big and bulky anyway, so off it goes). The front one just needed to be trimmed down, it was just touching the neck. Now we can start mutilating this brand new tank. You’re probably asking yourself why I would cut up a new gas tank - am I some jerk who just likes to hack up new parts and overcharge the customer or why didn’t I just order the right tank. Well the customer bought the tank (where it came from or whats it for, I don’t know-I don’t care,I’m gonna use it)and yes I am a jerk who likes to mutilate brand new parts and as far as the overcharging goes - “I DIDN’T BUY IT, I’M NOT THE ONE ON EBAY”, you watch TV and so do we. Not all brand new parts fit,some just don’t bolt on.This is why its called CUSTOM and that costs money(don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitterI’m just trying to make a living).

set the tank back up on the frame. We can utilize the threaded hole at the front of the backbone to mount the tank, but the tank still won’t drop onto the backbone. We can see that where they welded and reinforced the top motor mount is hitting the tank. It just has to be sanded down a bit to give us the clearance we need to allow the backbone to sit in the tunnel. With all that said and done we can start buttoning this up, I set the tank back on the frame and secure it using the front mount - now that the backbone can sit in the tunnel,we make sure it runs evenly all the way down the frame and that its centered with the bike.After that we make a new rear mount which will line up to a threaded hole in the frame, the one that came on the tank bolted through the side and we would’ve had to drill a hole straight through the backbone of the frame (one less thing I have to do, but don’t tell the customer). With the tank centered and inline we tacked the new rear mount on and roll it off the table. At this point, we’re gonna check the handlebar clearance - we know we don’t have any, so we make some forkstops. We took a 5/16-18 nut and tacked onto the existing forkstops on the frontend, then screwed a buttonhead bolt with a tab of red loctite into it so it can be adjusted so you have proper clearance. Finally - we remove the fuel tank for the last time to finish welding up the rear mount, throw a petcock on it, and throw it back on the bike. Run the fuel line and we’re done - now we can fill ‘er up. The next time this tank comes off is when John paints it. Now it has the look he was looking for and he’s finally got that whole foot clutch situation down to a science. Me on the other hand, I’m usually to “DRUNK AND STUPID” to deal with that mess. I told you it was easy enough, and it really didn’t even take that long. I know some people don’t want to be bothered with it (they just want it done). I also know that some people shouldn’t even own tools - but once again it keeps me busy. If you’re not too sure of what you’re doing, take it to a professional (then give me a call and let me have his phone number). You know since this whole “BIKER TV” thing started everyone’s into the CHOPPER or OLD SCHOOL mode. Which is great for business. WILDWOOD NJ SPRING RALLY 2011 May 2011 . Wildwood, NJ . Story, Ridin’ and Pics by Lutz The day started out on the mild side even though Mother Nature had promised some rain for later in the day... (Hey, the weatherman isn’t usually right lately, this time he was!) The temptation to check out the Spring Rally was too much! The ride was great and, rolling into Wildwood, it looked like we weren’t the only ones itchin’ to check out the event. Normally the September rally is much larger and the Spring event smaller but never the less there were a good amount of vendors and bikes about. Many walked around grabbing something to eat and drink, scoop up some goodies from the vendors and check out the bikes parked about. Still lots to do before the rain but, with the sprinkles and clouds rolling in, some left while others were determined to make the best of the weekend despite the crap weather! Not to worry, several bars and restaurants ran specials and had bands like local favorite “Who Dat” and “Paul Toz” playing into the wee hours. Others simply hung out and partied at their hotel rooms, enjoying the atmosphere that being in Wildwood offers. Here’s lookin’ towards sunny days and blue skies in September, can’t wait!

By: Deann Ingredients 1 teaspoon chili powder 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano 1 pinch onion powder Cayenne pepper to taste Garlic powder to taste Salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup butter, softened 6 ears corn, husked and cleaned Directions: Preheat grill for medium-high heat. In a medium bowl, mix together the chili powder, oregano, onion powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Blend in the softened butter. Apply this mixture to each ear of corn, and place each ear onto a piece of aluminum foil big enough to wrap the corn. Wrap like a burrito, and twist the ends to close. Place wrapped corn on the preheated grill, and cook 20 to 30 minutes, until tender when poked with a fork. Turn corn occasionally during cooking. Tangy Garlic Steak . By: Beav Ingredients 4 pounds beef sirloin steaks, at least 3/4 inch thick 1 (16 ounce) bottle Italian salad dressing 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons minced garlic 1 teaspoon olive oil salt and pepper to taste Directions: Score the steaks lightly on both sides using a sharp knife. Place in a shallow baking dish. Pour the Italian dressing and Worcestershire sauce over them, and sprinkle with garlic. Rub the marinade into the steaks using the back of a spoon or fork. Turn steaks over, and repeat on the other side. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 24 hours. Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Oil the grate lightly with a paper towel dipped in olive oil. Grill steaks for about 6 minutes per side, or to desired doneness. Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving. Desserts from Melody: Melody’s Sweet Summer Berry Dessert Ingredients 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 (5 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 2 cups fresh blueberries 2 cups chopped fresh strawberries 2 cups fresh raspberries fresh mint leaves for garnish Directions: In a bowl, mix the frozen whipped toping and sweetened condensed milk. Gently fold in 1 3/4 cup blueberries, 1 3/4 cup strawberries, and 1 3/4 cup raspberries. Top with remaining blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Garnish with mint, and chill until ready to serve. 49
