ello everyone! March is here and it’s time to hit the road and head for Daytona Beach Bike Week. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I’m looking froward to riding somewhere nice and warm even if it’s only for a week. We’re gonna be meeting up in Daytona with a bunch of friends from around the country and it should be great time. We’re already starting to see bars promoting bike nights starting in March on a few of the internet sites that are out there featuring events. It would be nice see a resurgence of local bike nights again. It gives people a chance to hook up with old friends and other riders from their area that you seem to have lost touch with for one reason or another. There has been a lot of talk about the price of fuel and experts are predicting it will reach almost five dollars a gallon this summer. So I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the most cost effective way to travel is gonna be on two wheels. We’re all looking forward to a great year in the motorcycle industry. With a little help form Mother nature of course. So till next time ride safe.

BIKERS KNOW THAT CHARITY IS ALWAYS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE ECONOMUY As we are all acutely aware it’s a tough economy for everyone however those who depend on the kindness and generosity of others feel the pinch even more. Although the SCC Tour wasn’t on the road very much from November to February we didn’t allow that to freeze over the spirit of bikers giving back to the community. During these frigid months SCC was fortunate to be involved in three charity events. Rider Now magazine asked us to participate in a food drive for a church in Ocala Florida. Val, the magazine editor, donated a bunch of food and we donated clothing and parts to be auctioned off as well as participating in a photo shoot that graced the cover of the magazine. The second charitable event was unplanned, two police officers were killed in St Petersburg Florida in January and when Johnny worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice years ago (who would have guessed that one) he worked closely with this department. The Full Throttle Bike Builders Invitational in Clearwater Florida turned into an informal fundraiser for those fallen officers and the biker community rallied on the spur of the moment to raise almost 70k! The third charity that caught our attention was for a one-year-old girl named Victoria with acute leukemia. My friend Aaron Blowout Morrow, the stereo typical big bad ass biker, and we mean big, took pledges for every pound he could lose, this just might cue cancer altogether, way to go Aaron. You can fin additional info at Victoriasvoyage.com. I guess the bottom line is no matter how tough the biker community may seem on the outside, we have a heart the size of a V-twin on the inside. It has been said about our culture that we are the first to support a good cause and the first to step up and protect our country. It’s 100% true. Even though times are tough and many of us can’t afford to donate monetarily we can give our time through volunteering, product donations or even weight loss, go figure, hey A+ for creativity. The weather is clearing; the sun is starting to shine on the open road and the 2011riding season is upon us. Come by and see us from March 4th to the 13th in Daytona at the Hang Dawg Saloon right across from the Iron Horse Saloon on US1. IMBBA MASTER BIKE BUILDER LEVEL II, DOUG KEIM, NEWEST INDUCTEE INTO THE IMBBA “Hall of Fame” Farmingdale, New Jersey - Doug Keim, IMBBA Master Bike Builder Level II certified, was officially announced as IMBBA’s newly inductee into the IMBBA “Hall of Fame” today. “Doug’s life achievements earned him a unanimous vote by the IMBBA Board of Directors.” said IMBBA President, Jeff Starke. Remember, Ride safe and Always EAT WELL! Chef FatBoy, Melody and Family The Fast Lane: Guinness and Jameson Baked Beans, Submitted by: Jim Kelly, FL. Ingredients: 3 ounces salt pork 1 lb diced onion 3 tablespoons garlic (diced) 2 lbs dried great northern beans 3 (14 1/2 ounce) cans beer (Guinness stout) 2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste 2 ounces whiskey (Jameson, Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam, etc) 1 lb pork sausage 2 cups brown sugar Directions: Dice up the salt pork and sauté until brown. Remove the pork and put into the crock pot, leaving the grease in the pan. Sauté the onions and garlic in the pork fat until brown. Remove the onions and garlic to the crock pot. Brown the sausage and add it to the crock pot. Add the rest of the ingredients to the crock pot. Cook on low for at least 12 hours, but I prefer 24 hours. Irish Mashed Potatoes, Submitted by: Pam Farrell, NJ. Ingredients: 2 pounds red-skin or golden potatoes, peeled, cut in large chunks 1 (8.25 ounce) can sliced carrots, drained 1 tablespoon butter or oil 1/4 cup milk, half and half, or cream Salt and pepper, to taste Directions: Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes; drain and return to the pot. Meanwhile puree the carrots in a food processor until completely smooth. Mash potatoes with a potato masher or ricer. Mix in pureed carrots and remaining ingredients. Warm over medium heat, stirring constantly. Phil’s Barbequed Cabbage, Submitted by: Phil Barnes, Pa. Ingredients: 1/2 head cabbage, cut into thick shreds 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup butter Freshly ground pepper to taste Directions: Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat. Evenly divide the cabbage among 4 squares of aluminum foil. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of soy sauce over each pile of cabbage, and place a tablespoon of butter on top. Season with pepper to taste, and fold the sides of the foil over the cabbage, sealing to form a packet. Place packets onto preheated

grill, and cook until the cabbage is tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Shamrock Stew, Submitted by: Russ Case, NY. Ingredients 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon salt, optional 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1-1/2 to 2 pounds beef top round steak, cut into 1-inch cubes 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce 2 cups water 1 large onion, sliced 1 teaspoon dried marjoram 1 bay leaf 1 pound carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 package (10 ounces) frozen peas Dumplings: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup milk 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, optional Directions: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt if desired and pepper; set aside 2 tablespoons. Add meat to bowl and toss to coat. In a Dutch oven or large soup kettle, over medium heat, cook the meat in oil until no longer pink; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, water and reserved flour mixture. Add onion, marjoram and bay leaf; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Add carrots; cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Stir in peas. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes for until the vegetables are tender. Remove bay leaf. For dumplings, in a large combine flour and baking powder. Stir in milk, egg, oil and parsley if desired. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto simmering stew. Cover and cook for 12-14 minutes or until done. Do not lift the cover. Serve immediately. Yield: 8 servings. Guinness Slow-Cooker Pork Chops, Submitted by: Stella Newman, NJ. Ingredients: 5 -6 pork chops (3-4 lbs total) 2 large onions 1 pint Guinness stout 1 pint water 1/2 cup butter Salt Pepper 1 minced garlic clove 1 dash red pepper flakes 8 ounces quartered mushrooms Directions: In a large sauté pan melt butter. Season pork chops with seasoned salt & pepper and add to pan a few at a time to sear. Remove chops to slow cooker and add onions to melted butter in sauté pan. Sweat onions until tender and clear in color. While onions are cooking add quartered mushrooms to slow cooker pot with the pork chops. When onions are just tender add the whole pint of Guinness Stout and allow to simmer 5 minutes. Pour onions and beer into slow cooker, and then add the pint of water to the sauté pan, simmering for an additional 5 minutes. Add sautee liquid to slow cooker and remaining spices to taste. Cook on high for 3 to 6 hours on high, or low for 6-10 hours, depending on when you need it to be finished. Can be prepped the night ahead but add at least 45 minutes if going from fridge to slow cooker. I serve this with hot buttered egg noodles using the Guinness onion sauce like a gravy. 12

This January, the Jersey Giant two day motorcycle swap meet and motorcycle show was held at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset NJ. This event had a little something for everyone no matter if you were shopping for a new or that hard to find used part. You most likely could have picked it up here. The bike show had one stand out crowd favorite. With patriotism at an all time high, Martin Bishop’s Operation Freedom bike honoring our troops in Iraq was a huge hit. Another crowd favorite was a personal appearance by Tattoo Tony. Tony is best known for his many appearances on on the Brett Michaels Life As You Know It TV realty show. Tony was at the show filming his own reality show and promoting his own line of Tattoo Tony’s Hard Ice Tea. Everyone seemed to be taking their time walking around listening to the bands, shopping the vendors and pretty much forgetting about the long cold winter we’ve been having in the northeast. So if you weren’t there this time, the Harley Rendezvous returns to the Garden State Exhibit Center on April 16th and 17th. Or go check out their signature event, the Harley Rendezvous Classic, June 24th to 26th at the Indian Lookout Country Club.

NOTE: When Chris wanted to purchase a production built custom bike, he looked up Doug Keim over at Creative Cycles in Wall, NJ. Doug and Liz sold Chris his brand new 2007 Mastiff. Well, as things happen, a year after the purchase the bike wasn’t “fast enough” any longer. So Chris returned to Doug Keim Creative Cycles looking for a solution to his performance needs. After some talk, Doug had a good idea of what Chris was looking for in both the appearance and performance departments. So Chris handed Doug the keys and he and his crew went to work. The images you see here are the final product… for now… we all know that you can just never leave it well enough alone! Additionally; this is possibly one of the baddest “street ridden” Big Dogs out there. Big horsepower, BIG noise, big fun and fast as all hell. Just ask Chris if you see him out on the street… he’s the guy smoking the tire and hitting the rev limiter on every shift! That is… if you can catch up with him!

Although discussed in prior columns, lately I have been repeatedly asked; “If I am involved in an accident that is 100% the other persons fault why am I, or my insurance company, responsible for the medical bills?” Although I know the answer and the reason behind it, every time I respond to this question, the answer seems to make less sense to me and more often than not, it never makes sense to the injured party.

The problem with both of these solutions, is that most insurance companies don’t move as fast as we would like them to, and meanwhile the injured victim begins getting collection notices and marks against them on their credit report. Once this process begins, the only way to protect yourself is to immediately arrange payment plans and/or speak with an attorney who may be able to convince the medical providers to accept letters of protection, which asks the providers to hold up on any collection efforts until the claim is resolved. However, this needs to be accomplished quickly because once these matters end up in collection they automatically get reported to the credit agencies and undoing that is much more difficult than preventing it from happening in the first place.

The simple answer is that most states are “No-Fault” states, which literally means that no matter who is at fault, the injured party is responsible for their own medical bills. Although this has long been the law, many people, including some doctor’s offices, assume that the other insurance company will pay. Occasionally, the other insurance company may even say they will, however, this rarely, if ever occurs and merely gives false hope to the victim of the accident.

Given the above, if you find yourself in this situation, do not get lolled into a false sense of security because the other insurance company has told you they will cover your medical bills. While they may in the long term, it only happens in the rarest of circumstances. Otherwise I suggest that you contact a competent lawyer to make sure that you don’t find yourself being victimized twice as a result of the negligent actions of another.

In most automobile cases the system works pretty well because all motorists in PA, DE and NJ are required to have medical benefits on their auto policies, which will pay at least $5,000.00 toward medical bills. However, in PA and NJ, most motorcycle policies do not provide medical coverage and therefore, if you have private health insurance, they will pay your medical bills. Most DE policies include $15,000.00 in combination benefits that may be used to pay for medical bills.

It was another great year for Rich Kohles and the Timonium Motorcycle Show held from February 11th thru 13th at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The event arena was packed through most of the weekend as patrons shopped the area’s top vendors in the motorcycle industry. Bikes ranged from classic to cutting edge and many were the product of new and very innovative ideas. But only the best of the best took home awards, including Judge’s Choice Best of Show presented to Justin Alt for his 1946 Harley Davidson Nostalgic Bobber, Best Display of Show presented to Bob Mulfinger for his pirate-themed 2005 Harley Davidson Softail and Best Paint of Show presented to John Talmo for his 2007 special construction chopper.

Walking through the maze of incredible set-ups and bikes was very cool. The Smurf Bike, man, that is hilarious! The Michael Jackson Tribute Bike took the People’s Choice award. Severe Cycles had an amazing variety of bikes on hand and the design techniques used on their creations are some of the best in the industry. Another great, local bike builder took home a top award at the show as well: Best Handcrafted Parts was awarded to Brian Kundratic for his 2005 Special Construction. There were many amazing bikes and builders who won awards - congratulations to all of you! The bikes weren’t the only highlight of the weekend. Industry celebrities the likes of Arlen Ness and several cast members from the television series Sons of Anarchy were on hand for autograph sessions. Of course the Hooters’ girls were present and working the crowd into a frenzy. And for those who preferred some interaction, there were wing eating and frozen t-shirt contests.
