www.fastlanebiker.com flb@fastlanebiker.com

has arrived in New Jersey . The last weeks of summer were no bargain weather wise. The rain seemed to arrive early in the weekend and stay till Tuesday take day or so off then rain some more. So far Mother Nature has given us some decent riding weather to start the FALL season out with lets hope it continues. It would be nice to have a mild fall and extend the riding season a few more Months. But as I put the finishing touches on the magazine there is sixteen inches of snow on the grounding in some parts of Northern Jersey . So I guess I spoke to soon . It wont be long before the indoor shows start rolling in to the area . Were gonna be making some changes this winter with FASTLANEBIKER like we do every winter. Were working on some new Ideas to make the magazine bigger then ever. More content changes, web site changes, new advertisers , larger distribution and just more of everything you expect from FASTLANEBIKER.

JAMISONS BAR

BIKE NIGHT/POKER RUN BENEFIT Story Ridin’ and Pics by Lutz

July 9th, 2011• Pemberton NJ

A growing trend around now is to have a bike night at

your local restaurant / bar. As most of you will agree that motorcyclists like to have a good time and spend money while doing so. Be choosey on where you go as one minute your accepted on your bike and then the next your not! I gotta give it to the owners, Dan and Stacy @ the Jamisons in Pemberton NJ, they ALWAYS welcome ALL bikers. Such is the case of when they where asked if they could combine their bike night with a benefit to aid a local child named Markus with medical issues. There was no second guessing that answer. Grilled chicken, burgers, hot dogs, and cold “liquid refreshment” on tap was in order! Live music was provided both day and night thanks to Mac and Denise and the Berends Bros. Band who fu@#kin rocked! If the scoot was dirty (and even for some who’s bike wasn’t) the had some lovely bikini clad ladies sudsing down your ride. With the parking lot full of bikes, it was definitely a good bike night and with over a 1000 bucks raised to help Marcus. I would say the benefit was quite successful too!

ASK THE ATTORNEY BY: LEE D. GABER, ESQUIRE 1-888-CYCLE-LAW . LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com This month’s column actually deals with some GOOD news on the insurance front for a change. Normally when I comment on insurance issues the news is generally bad. However, I recently learned that the Erie Insurance Company has requested that they be allowed to offer motorcycle coverage that is capable of being stacked onto Erie automobile coverage. Although the change has not yet taken place, the fact that Erie is requesting it, is a positive sign and signals to me that Erie is likely to start competing for motorcycle insurance business. That usually means lower premiums due to increased competition.

The only similar language I have seen, has been found in Union sponsored health insurance plans in New Jersey, wherein many of them have restricted the coverage they provide if the injuries occur while operating a motorcycle. I will keep all of you informed when and if I find out more information about this topic. In the meantime, just to be safe, you may want to review your own health policy contract to find out if this language is in your policy, because it could have a devastating effect if you are ever involved in an accident without a helmet.

On a final, note, if any of you are currently To the best of my knowledge, the only renting a home or an apartment, it is imperative company that currently allows you to stack that you purchase renters insurance. This your motorcycle policy onto your auto policy is insurance will cover your personal possessions State Farm. However, that assumes that you if they are stolen, damaged or destroyed, be have purchased the “stacking” option on both it by flood, fire or theft. It also protects you polices. I assume the same would also hold against liability in the event someone is injured true for Erie. This should be welcome news to while visiting your home. Many people are anyone who currently has Erie Insurance and under the misconception that if you are renting, wants to insure their motorcycle with Erie. the owner of the property will have insurance that will covers your personal effects. This is On another note, I recently received a call from absolutely not true. In order to be personally a client advising that his private health plan in PA protected, you must purchase this coverage. has an exclusion written into the policy allowing It is normally very reasonable and can be a the insurance company to deny coverage if he life saver if you ever experience a loss as is involved in a motorcycle accident and is not described above. wearing a helmet”. Although, I haven’t seen the language, I have no reason to disbelieve that the language is in the plan. Whether this exclusion I hope you find this information informative would hold up if it was challenged legally, I and if you would like additional information don’t know. This is the first time I have heard of on this topic, or any other, I can always be any type of helmet exclusion, but if challenged reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or and upheld, it may become standard language 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352). in many health policies. This is clearly the exception to the rule right now, however I fear Sincerely, LEE D. GABER, Esquire that as insurance companies are becoming increasingly restrictive, this language could The one and only “Cycle Attorney” find its way into more health insurance policies.

FINALLY...PART 2

PAN ELECTRIC START

drive housing. It looks harder than it is. Set the inner in place, slide the clutch hub on, and make some markes with a marker. start out here little by little, not to cut away to much where there is a gaping hole when you are done. Take your time, you only need enough to clear the housing, and a little so nothing rattles going down the road. Also, make sure you have room all the way around the ring gear, so it does not hit the inner primary. Different inners will require more to be cut out for the ring gear than others, so you are on your own there. Then, if all is well on the inner, put the whole primary back together and nail it .still have some cutting to do on the outer cover. same as the inner, cut just what you need to clear the housing. of course, clean up all the edges so it looks finished. Don`t forget to adjust the clutch before closing the primary side. If it`s done on the other side of the starter, that’s where the supplied starter support and start button assembly goes. You have to make a spacer to go between the bracket and the trans, it doesn`t come with it due to different transmissions. The kit comes with the wiring and starter relay, which I tucked on top of the battery in the oil tan which came with the kit. The whole thing is a lot of work, that I`ll say, but it sure is worth it. Having a kicker and a magic button in the same ride is a good thing. Especially, if you gotta get outa dodge real fast, and the old pan aint startin’ on the first or second kick any more. Thats the name of that tune for now. I’ll have some other real stupid things to show ya, the results of poor maintanence, and just being dumb, in the next few articles. So, I guess, I`ll see you in church (like thats gonna happen), you know what I mean. I`m done for today. Getting colder than a well diggers butt outside......welcome to winter in New Jersey!!!

Well, it has been a while since the first part of this article, sorry about that, I’ve been busy goofing off and taking care of a few things. So, let me remember where I left off. I do believe it was getting the starter mounted to the trans plate, and the shimming that was involved. In the pictures showed here, you can see the starter installed on the bracket on the trans plate. Once the assembly is installed to the trans plate, you have to set the starter drive gear to ring gear engagement to the specs provided, as to not tear up either gear by being to close together, or to far apart, which will tear up a bunch of stuff real fast. You have to move the starter up or down in the slots to get the correct distance from the ring gear, and possibly use the shims provided between the starter bracket and the trans bracket to get the correct gear depth. It will take you a couple of times to get what you want, but it will save the cost on some expensive parts. Then there is a top bracket that has to be shimmed, bolts to the two top screws on the ratchet top, which we drilled and heli-coiled in the first part. The bolt holes on the top bracket were not slotted, which means if and when you ever have to adjust the belt tension,(you should not have to for quite some time), you would have to take everything apart and re-shim it. So, I slotted the holes, and it is a quick adjustment with out taking it all apart, by loosening the bolts and sliding it back. You have to understand that the starter does not move with the trans, so any movement of the trans after this is all installed, changes the drive gear and ring gear depth and will screw up both gears. This is why you set up the included belt drive and clutch set up before all the rest. So, after you have had the starter and brackets in and out a hundred times, and things are looking good, you can take the belt drive back off!!! If you are going to have a closed primary, you need to notch the inner and outer tins to clear the starter
