ello everyone, November has arrived and it’s time for fall . The leaves are turning color and are falling off the trees, so be careful out there. I know there’s still plenty of good riding weather left this year. With any luck, hopefully we’ll get another winter like last year. It was a good winter for the motorcycle business except if you’re in the motorcycle storage business of course. So lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope for another mild winter.

7TH ANNUAL MEMORIAL POKER RUN AUGUST 26TH, 2012 • PEMBERTON, NJ

As it’s getting later in the year and it looks like the leaves are starting to fall, doesn’t mean that there’s still plenty of time to break out the bike and hit the road!! (The yard work can wait...) Poker runs are a pretty cool way to hit a few different popular “motorcycle hot spots”and the destination for this weekend is as equally cool. All the men and women involved with Rolling thunder chapter 2, worked hard towards POW/MIA related issues and this Runs cause has a bit of a twist. In it’s 7th year, this Memorial Poker Run honors two Pemberton, NJ soldiers, Ryan T. Baker and Philip I. Spakosky. Both have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Family, friends and many locals who personally knew them or out of respect for these hometown men came out to support. Proceeds collected from this event, benefited a scholarship fund set up in their name with the recipient being also a Pemberton local student ...way cool! DJ Don provided tunes throughout the day, vendors took care of that shoppin’ urge and food and drink was also available to cure that thirst and “growling” stomach! With the parking lot and field of the Pemberton American Legion filled with bikes and people... I’m sure Brian and Philip looked down and where real proud.

your bike is in good shape, that should leave you covered. Also, before you give them your motorcycle, you should ask to hold something personal of theirs, like their car keys, to make sure they come back with your motorcycle. On an entirely different topic, as of August 31st of this year, any 16 or 17 year old who wishes to take the skills test for their motorcycle license will have had to first complete the basic rider course offered by the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program. This is a free program and the bikes are normally provided free of charge. Most motorcycle lawyers familiar with this rule, will advise that before one can go for their licensing test, they must have had a learners permit for at least 6 months, completed at least 15 hours of classroom and riding instruction which breaks down into 5 hours in the classroom and 10 hours on the course. If you are under 18 you must also show that you had your parent attest to the 65 hours of training being completed. However, the 15 hours of training does count toward the 65 hours on the road requirement. As a PA motorcycle accident lawyer, this is one rule that I truly believe in and support because at a minimum it will insure that every rider has taken the safety course and has been taught the safest way to ride a motorcycle. Hopefully after taking this course and buying an appropriate motorcycle, your riding skills will prevent you from ever needing to call a motorcycle accident lawyer. Over the last few years, as a result of writing columns for motorcycle magazines, I have had many readers call to ask if there is a downside to selling their motorcycle privately as opposed to trading it in? Given that this question revolves around a motorcycle, it seems to make sense to direct it to a Pennsylvania motorcycle lawyer. First off, I don’t see anything wrong with selling your motorcycle privately, however if you are going to do this, you have to be smart about it. In other words, if somebody wants to test drive your motorcycle you must first ask if they have a motorcycle license and do they have any experience operating motorcycles. Although I may sound overly cautious, what would happen if you allowed this person to take your motorcycle out for a test drive, and they ended up injured as a result of a collision. Depending upon the severity of the persons injuries, they may be looking to you to reimburse them for their injuries and you may be liable for allowing them to ride your motorcycle without a motorcycle license or questioning their experience. The theory under which you can be sued would be negligent entrustment, with the lawsuit alleging that you did not do any investigation at all to find out if this person should have been allowed to operate your motorcycle regardless if it was for a test drive. Additionally, you may also be responsible to fix your own motorcycle, so make sure you are fully insured with collision coverage on your bike. The bottom line is, if someone wants to take your motorcycle for a ride you should; a) make sure they have a motorcycle license and b) if they do, ask them if they currently have insurance on any motorcycle they may own at the time they are asking to test drive yours. The weather forecast was not good for Liberty’s 15th Anniversary Kickoff Party on Oct. 6. Right up until the day before, we were worried we’d get rained out. But it turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day! The Liberty lot was full of vendors, bikes, and hungry customers, and they weren’t disappointed! The Wannabes rocked the lot – and even sang Happy Birthday to Liberty. Special thanks to our Liberty HOG members who spent the day behind the grill – they kept the food coming and coming all afternoon! And don’t forget, this was only our 15th Anniversary KICKOFF! Photos & copy provided by Michelle Barlak On October 14, 2012, there couldn’t have been more perfect weather for The Seeing Eye’s first charity motorcycle ride. Approximately 140 bikes left from Tramontin Harley-Davidson in Hope, N.J. The ride ended at Lewis-Morris Park in Morris Township, just down the road from The Seeing Eye headquarters. The trip was 55-miles along scenic New Jersey back roads with beautiful fall foliage in full bloom. The major intersections were blocked by police or green lit so the group could ride through. The first 100 registrants received a commemorative event patch. At the park, a catered lunch with a choice of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausage with onions and peppers, was included in the registration fee. A DJ played music and item raffle and 50/50 drawings were held. Seeing Eye puppy raisers mingled with their young puppies and Seeing Eye instructors gave training demonstrations with trained Seeing Eye dogs who were getting ready to be matched with their new owners. The Seeing Eye is grateful for the assistance of Tramontin Harley-Davidson for their role in making this first time event a success, and to the Northwest Jersey HOG Chapter for their help in planning the route, supervising the ride, providing road captains and helping spread the word. The event could not have happened without the help and enthusiasm from this great group of riders! The Seeing Eye is the oldest guide dog school in the world. The non-profit is based in Morristown, N.J. with a mission to breed, raise and train guide dogs for people who are blind and visually impaired. About 260 people fly to The Seeing Eye headquarters in Morristown, N.J. each year. They come from all over the United States and Canada to train for 3 to 4 weeks with the dog that will be their guide, partner and best friend for the next 8 to 10 years. The tuition paid by students is just $150 for the first dog and $50 for subsequent dogs, and includes the cost of the dog, equipment, airfare, room and board, and a lifetime of follow-up services. The organization receives no government funding and is completely supported by donations from individuals, foundations, bequests and other planned gifts.
