Letter from the Publisher Hello “FastLaneBiker NY Family”, We have been “On-the-GO” since sending “Your Magazine” for June, to the printers. Riding around the state has taken us to Fast Lane Family events at Rob’s Supply in North Syracuse and Jason’s Run benefit ride for Biker Awareness in Oneonta.

Brian Gage Publisher

Other rides took us to Harv’s Harley-Davidson 50th Anniversary Party in Macedon and to the Deer Path Restaurant and Lounge in New Berlin where we met the Rolling Iron Riders Club from New Jersey, on their ride to the beautiful Adirondack Mountains. Joining in on benefit rides and setting up shop at events, gives us the privilege of meeting all the great people in the biker community. This issue has the stories and photos of each and every one of our rides and the people we have been honored to meet!

Paula Monroe Accounts Manager

July will bring travels to the Wounded Warrior Ride in Minoa, the A-Bay Hog Rally, Marine Corp Tribute Bike in Sherburne, the Norwich Cruise-In and Street Fest!!! Check out the Events Calendar for the July dates and come join Fast Lane Biker – New York and meet your fellow bikers that share the road with you! We would like to welcome Seebers Tavern in Smithville Flats and Punk’s Place in Candor to the Fast Lane Family. Stop by their business and enjoy their hospitality! Also, welcome back to The Ben Rabin Law Firm LLC. from Syracuse. He is dedicated to helping injured motorcyclists. See you all on the road and at events and rallies in July.

Brian

See you all on the road and at events and rallies in July.

Fast Lane Biker New York

Enjoy life in the Fast Lane. “Surely make you lose your mind!”

True Marlboro Man. He literally smokes his tires!

No showers above 30 mph!

It’s gonna cost you 2 cookies and a one hour timeout!

I told you this was a two-wheeled machine!

He looks pale, only when he rides!

Ride this bike and animal activists will turn you in. It’s all in how you look at it! 5

FAST LANE FEATURE...

Tobacco Road Trikes & Cycles got its name from the nickname of the road Adam Weeks, AKA Big Stupid, the shop owner, fabricator, janitor, manager, machinist, wrench, and all around goofball lives on. The local Subaru dealer would say to Adam’s dad, “Here comes Bob from Tobacco Road Trikes.” You see, Adam’s dad has been building trikes, bikes and hot rods since Adam was a little dude. Officially, Tobacco Road Trikes & Cycles opened for business on June 14th, 2011. However, they have been building, repairing, customizing, and tuning motorcycles and trikes since they were kids. They are a locally owned and operated shop that does trike conversions built from scratch in-house. They will turn any bike into a trike. Recently they helped a man who lost his arm in a tragic accident by converting a Fat Boy into a semi-auto trike. The actual custom swing arm and accessories were hand fabricated in-house as Tobacco Road is a build shop, not an assembly shop who prides itself on scratch built motorcycles and trikes. Currently, they have several projects in the works including ‘The Roach’ which is a fully independent suspension VW ic trike designed and built in-house. ‘The Stogie’ an automattransmission 2.3 Ford powered trike. The ‘Elbow Bender’ a 650 Bobber with, of course, a Tobacco Road Trikes & Cycles chassis. They do all aspects of trike and bike work at Tobacco Road... Paint, pinstriping, airbrush, (by Bob Weeks, AKA Crazy Legs) fabrication, hand-built chassis for motorcycle/trike repair, machine work, custom paint, bike and trike restoration. Basically, you name it, they do it! Stop by and see the crew. They’re open on weekends, too.

On May 27th, Fast Lane Biker - New York took a ride out to Macedon, NY and checked out Harv’s HarleyDavidson 50th Anniversary party. It was quite a gathering of family, friends, and riders from all around. Here is a little history on Harv’s Harley-Davidson. Harv Rousseau and the late Milly Rousseau started the business back in 1962 on their farm with a chicken coop that they converted into a HarleyDavidson dealership. Both were motorcyclists and were members of clubs, the Empire Riders and The Motor Maids. Their goal was to be involved with the customers and enjoy it. To this day, the tradition stands strong with many events that are geared toward having fun and the customer. The business has come a long way since then and Fast Lane Biker – New York can attest to that tradition. We thoroughly enjoyed the 50th Anniversary Event with all the great things going on. There was great food, live music by Ebb Tide and Ill Conduct, motorcycle stunt performers, the Wall of Death and an incredible showcasing of motorcycles old and new. The huge crowd enjoyed the day filled with fun and sun. We were honored to meet Harv, himself. He’s a wonderful man who worked hard to make Harv’s what it is today. His daughter Kim is doing an incredible job keeping Harv’s moving forward with great success. As we left on the bike, the crowd was still growing and the fun was still flowing. It was a pleasure to be at your event. Happy 50th Anniversary and 90th birthday Harv!

By now, I should have many students who have been reading my Tech Tips. I hope they have been helpful. This months Tech Tip is one that your publisher has picked fuel tank cleaning of your horse and yes, when I say horse I mean the one that drinks gasoline not water and does not feed on hay, just asphalt and rubber. Yes, your iron horse! This tip is another helpful and preventive maintenance one for the year. The cleaning of your fuel tank can be a simple task by following these basic steps. Even those with less mechanical skills can handle this one. Rust and sludge damage your fuel system and shouldn't go untreated. You all know who I am talking to! Some bad cases of rust can often lead to holes which leak that high dollar liquid gold out. The easiest way to clean a gas tank of rust and contaminants is with Muriatic Acid. Commonly used for pool cleaning and cement etching, this acid can be found at most pool supply stores or any garage meth lab. However, I'd stick with the store and avoid hanging out near crazed meth lab tweakers! Avoid contact with this very corrosive acid by wearing heavy rubber gloves and protective eyewear at minimum. Only use outdoors since breathing "If your tank looks this good, this could be extremely hazardous. As with any chemical read the label and warnings.

leave it alone"

Now that you have overcome your fear of handling acid and being wimp, it's time to clean your Harley's fuel tank. 1. Start by draining the fuel tank of any remaining gas. Disconnect the fuel line and remove the tank from your bike. Remove the petcock and plug with rubber tubing and heavy duct tape, or anything else that can be used as a plug. Do not use any tubing or your original petcock valve. That will be reused. 2. Pre-clean the tank with a 1/2 gallon of gasoline. Cap the tank and agitate by rocking the tank with nuts and bolts in it, not rusty old shitty one's. Dispose of fuel in a proper container. 3. Fill 1/2 the tank with hot water. Now add approximately 1/2 a gallon of Muriatic Acid and top up the remaining with more hot water. Seal the tank with something other than your original gas cap (acid will lift the chrome). Allow the mixture to sit in the tank for 2 hrs. 4. Drain the acid mixture into a proper container and dispose of properly (not down the drain or in the trash!). Rinse your Harley's tank with water several times, then with gasoline. 5. Install the tank back on your motorcycle and immediately refill with gas. An empty tank is prone to the progression of rust. However if you must store your Harley's tank follow the directions for Winter Storage with a fuel stabilizer . Drain and rinse again with gasoline after storage. Step away from that can of WD-40! Use the right product for the job. You wouldn't wash your car or Harley with a harsh solvent, so don't use penetrating oil in place of lubricant or cleaner. WD-40 is a water dispersing penetrating oil originally designed to repel water. Almost 60% of this solution is an aromatic corrosive solvent designed to penetrate metals, with a suspended paraffin lubricant designed to remain upon evaporation. There are rumors that WD-40 will actually eat away at certain metals and rubber, but the fact is that WD-40 is NOT designed to clean fuel tanks or lubricate while in storage. If you think you can't handle this simple task, give us a call and we can set you straight. As always ride hard and fast because "there's no rest for the wicked“, is what we live by at TNT PRO LLC. 35
