Hello every one and welcome to the October issue of FAST LANE BIKER New York /New Jersey . This is my favorite time of year for riding. Except for last year it was already freezing cold by this time. Hopefully, we will have a normal seasonal fall this year because there are lots of Fall Foliage runs going on around the area, as well as Fall Open houses introducing the new model year. This year should be a good one as far as the motorcycle Industry. We’re looking forward to it, but remember folks, be careful out there. This is the season when most motorcycle accidents happen.

AIDANS RIDE – BROOKLYN –
testing in the state of New York. On December 30th 2013 Aidan’s law went into effect and has since detected nine cases of ALD further making the case for testing country wide. . ALD is a rare genetic brain disease that afflicts mostly boys and men. ALD affects the protective sheath surrounding the brains neurons, the part of our brain that allows us to think and control our muscles. While it’s possible for ALD to effect adults the most devastating is in early childhood between the ages of four and ten, a normally healthy child will suddenly have difficulty concentrating, or loss of coordination and vision problems. As the disease progresses symptoms worsen eventually leaving the child in a vegetative state and or death. This is the third in a series of AIDAN’S RUNS. The first was in Morgantown WV on October 26th, 2013, the second in Durham NC May 10th, 2014 and todays June 1st in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
400 Union Ave. Williamsburg, Brooklyn the home of Indian Larry Motorcycles. Like anyone who has ever ridden a motorcycle, I’m a huge fan of Indian Larry and always love a trip to the shop. In the show room there’s always a great collection of Indian Larry Motorcycles, and up on the lifts in the shop area are some of their latest builds. Today wouldn’t be just any trip to the ILM shop today we’re here to join AIDAN’S RIDE, a charity motorcycle run to support THE AIDAN JACK SEEGER FOUNDATION. The AJS Foundation was created to help the families and children affected by ALD, and to push for ALD testing in new born babies throughout the country. Aidan Jack Seeger the 6 year old son of Elisa and Bobby Seeger was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy or ALD 3 years ago. After an eleven month battle this little ruler passed away from this rare disease, But Aidan’s passing would not be in vain for his family lead by his mother Elisa, would fight to get ALD Fast Lane Biker

the ride was on. We set out with 300 bikes on the BQE and the police did an amazing job closing off the cross streets and entrance ramps. We proceeded past some great NYC icons The Brooklyn Bridge, The Manhattan skyline, Coney Island, and Jones Beach. I’m from NY and there were a couple sights along the way that I had never seen before. Along the Robert Moses Causeway one of the riders was pulled over on the side he had lost the exhaust pipe to the rear cylinder and after riding without it for 20 miles his ears were ringing and his ass was on fire. He was picked up by the Indian Larry Motorcycle van that was trailing the ride. It turned out to be a great idea to follow the riders after seeing the guys in the ILM van fuel up several bikes with small tanks along the way. The ride ended at The Emporium in Patchogue Long Island and wow what a venue the place was big and the billboard outside had some big name entertainment Aaron Lewis from Staind and Scott Stapp from Creed were two performers playing here in the weeks to follow. As I walked in the doors there was live music play-
I left Westchester County, NY with three others for the hour long ride to Brooklyn. We arrived about 10am and hour before the 11am kickstands up and it was getting so crowded we had to park two blocks away. I grabbed a cup of coffee and said hello to some friends then set out for the shop. I had been hearing about a bike being built by the ILM crew for a Metzler tire promotion “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS” and wanted to see it firsthand. This bike and several others were up on the lift and a couple guys were wrenching on their bikes trying to put the finishing touches on for the days run. As i wandered around taking photos more bikes and riders were coming in and the crowd grew and the hour flew by. There were some amazing motorcycles here, seemed that anyone from the Brooklyn area that ever built a bike came out for this run. There were also riders from West Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey and even the Mayor of Fun Kevin Bean’re rode in from Kentucky. After a safety meeting by the NYPD the call for KICKSTANDS UP was announced. Lead by 10 NYPD motorcycle police bikes OCTOBER, 2014

BHP several times over the last couple years at all the big rallies and they’re really putting on a great show!! BHP was followed by Hellbound Glory an American country roots rock band started in Reno Nevada and their influences are Hank, Hank jr, and Nirvana and it was apparent by their amazing performance. Before I realized it the bands were wrapped up, and hugs of see ya soon were being given. It really is true, time fly’s when you’re having fun. This was a great day and an amazing turn out for the first AIDAN’S RUN BROOKLYN. The riders and entertainers both traveled long distances to help support the Seeger’s and the fight against ALD. The turn out today is true testament to how caring and generous the motorcycle community is. In all twenty five thousand dollars was raised for the fight and awareness against ALD for The AIDAN JACK SEEGER FOUNDATION. Please join the posse www.aidanhasaposse.org keep an eye out for a run near you and help fight this dreadful disease.
ing and a lot sights to take in. I grabbed a beer and made my way over to check out the band. The first band was a group from Pittsburgh, Pa The Shiners with guitarist Rob Keller, now I have seen Rob play before but it was acoustic sitting at a kitchen table, so it was good to see him up on stage with his band rocking out some great music. As the band took a break it was my chance to check out the rest of the show. The Emporium has a great outdoor patio area and a lot of people were out there enjoying the food being served. After eating I had to go in and find the raffle prize table and the helmets that were going to be auctioned off to support the AJS foundation. I have a small collection of helmets and I’m always looking to add to it. Through one of their sponsors, Biltwell helmets the people at ILM have sent several helmets out to different artists to decorate the helmets in their style of art and WOW what came back was amazing!! Time was rolling fast as Big House Pete was taking the stage this is another band from PA and these guys are great, playing some of their originals and a couple cover songs. ASK THE ATTORNEY BY: LEE D. GABER, ESQUIRE 1-888-CYCLE-LAW • LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com • www.cycleattorney.com Lately I have been reading many articles about how often the Medicare/Medicaid programs are being “ripped off” by hospitals and doctors offices, and these are just the offices who are getting caught, These are multi-billion dollar programs and every time they get screwed, it continues to inflate our national debt a little more. As all of you should know by now, 99% of our motorcycle policies do not have medical coverage of any type, and contrary to what the other insurance company may tell you on the phone, even if they are willing to accept fault for the accident, the other persons insurance company will not voluntarily pay the medical bills you incur if you are in a motorcycle accident in PA or NJ. If you do not have medical coverage you will need to apply for medical assistance. These are your injuries that were treated and they are your medical bills to pay. If you have health insurance, great! Be sure to advise the person or company who treated you to send them to your health insurance carrier. However, you will still be responsible to pay your own deductible or co-pay and if you do not pay them, your account could end up in collections. Just keep the receipts and send them to us. How to keep your bills down? Unless you have a serious and/or obvious injury, do not go to the emergency room. There is a new proliferation of stand alone emergent/urgent care facilities that are perfectly suited to treat you for minor injuries, they all have x-ray machines and can perform most of the same tests as the emergency room. The costs are usually 25% of
what the hospitals would charge and they will bill your health insurance, or Medicare, directly. If they feel you need to be seen in the emergency room, believe me they will immediately advise you to go to one. You can also call your family doctor and make an appointment to be seen as soon as possible. Remember, I am only talking about injuries that are not obvious emergencies. If you are bleeding or believe something is broken, go directly to the emergency room right away. Secondly, unless you can not get to an urgent care facility or an ER on your own, skip the ambulance ride and have a friend or family member bring you. The average cost for the ambulance is $1000-1500 per trip and they usually do not negotiate. So again, unless you can not get there on your own, avoid the cost – you will be treated the same no matter how you arrive. In the area I live in, there must be 4-5 urgent care centers all within 10 minutes of my home. I have health insurance, but why should they have to pay the inflated costs. If you have any questions about your medical coverage, please pick up the phone and call me at 1-888-CYCLE LAW. I will be happy to go over your bike, auto and health insurance policies with you for free. As always, if upon reading this material you have any questions regarding this topic or any others, please feel free to contact me at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1-888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352). Sincerely,
