Letter from the Publisher

W

e finally finished our move into the new house and new “World Headquarters” of Fast Lane Biker Magazines NY. We now are bringing you the magazine from the Man Cave/ Office in the basement with a completely new set up. We set up a TV, couches, lounge chairs, and a great, loud stereo system. Most importantly, we now have a nice, huge backyard for our kids and great summer BBQ parties. Can’t wait to invite some good friends over for good times! I would like to give a big thanks to Donny Barnes who helped us move and get everything set up and running smooth. Thanks Don. We are riding into the Fall and Holiday season and have a lot of events planned. Keep yourself up to date by checking out the magazine, in print or online as the info becomes available. Don’t forget to check out our advertisers for great holiday gift ideas. Remember, most of the shops and dealerships kick it off in November with Black Friday. It’s not only the stores who have great deals and sales, even painters and powder coaters, like ReNu Powder Coating usually have great Holiday specials in time to start working on that motorcycle for next season. We have some big news to announce by next month so keep your eyes and ears open for it. It’s going to be a great season! Ride safe and be careful out there. Make sure you spread the word by telling your local dealers and businesses to support your favorite magazine, as our supporters bring you the magazine each month. New York’s Biggest, Best, Baddest Motorcycle Magazine!! Until next month... Keep your knees in the breeze!

BIKER MEETS VIAGRA Crash, the Biker, walks into a pharmacy & says to the pharmacist, “Listen, I have three biker babes coming over tonight. I’ve never had three biker babes at once, & I need something to keep me horny, keep me potent.” The pharmacist reaches under the counter, unlocks the bottom drawer & takes out a small cardboard box marked with a label “Viagra Extra Strength” & says, “Here, if you eat this, you’ll go NUTS for 12 hours!” The next day, Crash rides down to the same pharmacy, walks right up to the same pharmacist & pulls down his pants. The pharmacist looks in horror as he notices that Crash’s Johnson is black & blue with the skin hanging off in some places. Crash says, “Gimme a bottle of Ben Gay.” The pharmacist replies, “BEN GAY?! You’re not going to put Ben Gay on your d*ck while it’s in that condition?” Crash says, “No, it’s for my arms, the girls didn’t show up.” ☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼☺☼ DRUNKEN BIKER One night, a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy biker bar for possible violations of the driving-under-the-influence laws. At closing time, he saw one of the bikers stumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, try his keys on five different bikes before he found his. Then, sat on the bike fumbling around several minutes, looking as if he might pass out right there. Everyone left the bar and rode off. Finally, he started his engine and began to pull away. The police officer was waiting for him. He stopped the biker, read him his rights and administered the Breathalyzer Test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be. The biker replied, “Tonight, I’m the Designated Decoy.” 5

I have been on the road for over a decade now and I thought I would share with you some of my observations and insight. Please do not take these personally and don’t get offended, these are just the rantings of a mad man. I thought it would be neat to put them in a TOP TEN list ala Letterman. Number 10: I WOULD LOVE TO COME TO YOUR EVENT AND THIS IS HOW MUCH I CHARGE $$$. It is not financially sound to drive halfway across the country at 6mpg to set up at a small rally to lose money. Number 9: PHOTOGRAPHERS, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO SELL ME A PHOTO SHOOT. My scooters have appeared in numerous mags and tv shows and I never turn down free publicity but don’t try to sell me a shoot. Number 8: LADIES, I DON’T GIVE FREE SHIRTS IF YOU SHOW ME YOUR TITS As much pleasure as I find in your offer I have seen a lot of them and its not a good business plan. Number 7: DON’T ASK FOR A DISCOUNT ON A T-SHIRT. We don’t sell 5 for 20 t-shirts and never will. I give my repeat customers and the rare person who doesn’t annoy me a discount. Number 6: PLEASE DON’T ASK ME TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE T-SHIRT DESIGNS. I have worked very hard to create a brand identity and would not ever use someone’s designs and I hunt down those who steal mine. (See next month’s

article.) Number 5: JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN BE NAKED DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD BE NAKED. I do a lot of clothing optional adult rallies and as a general rule if your stomach exceeds your chest please remain clothed and all men need to be clothed.

Number 4: THIS IS STRIP CLUB CHOPPERS. IT IS NOT A STRIP CLUB. Please don’t come to the booth and expect a lap dance or naked women. Do you have any idea the legal nightmare that would be.

Number 3: STAY OFF MY BIKES! Just because it has a pole on it doesn’t mean you should climb on it. I was raised to never touch someone’s bike without permission and I still follow that credo. For once please follow my example.

Number 2: I DON’T MAKE KID’S CLOTHES and never will, just not comfortable going down that road. I have enough stuff I have to answer for already. Number 1: PLEASE DON’T WALK BOOTH AND ASK WHAT I HAVE FOR FREE. I give free stuff to people who make a purchase and I send stuff to Irag and Afghanistan and donate to legit charities, but when I pull up at the truck stop for diesel fuel, it ain’t free.

TIME MACHINE by Tim Hayes

Faster... And faster... Let go and trust the soul of the beast. Mindless instinct blurs reality. Two speeding wheels Welded now into one racing heart Melting into the passing horizon beneath. Frightening beauty Morphs into unbridled passion. Fears frozen in place, Left behind with the present, Unable to catch the future, Already past. Crossing the line now, and then To the untapped consciousness of life; Leaving it to follow, Too late. Still faster... And faster...

ART FOR LIFE . THROWN BY MODERN WELDING SCHOOL For Pancreatic Cancer and Community Hospice of Albany In Memory of Debra Nati, William Gillenwalters and Dean Harding . October 8th, 2011

What a beautiful day to celebrate a 75th anniversary! The sun was shining and I had a great ride out to Schenectady on my Honda Davidson®. I would personally like to give a big thank you to everyone that made this event possible. It was a pleasure to see so many great friends and to meet so many nice people. Tattoo Tony made the hike out here and as usual impressed us all with his talent. He was tattooing right on sight and did some amazing work! And it was very nice to meet his new assistant Shannon and her family. I hope to see them again. For those of you who were fortunate enough to be there, how about the live music? Herb was smoking as usual and I saw Max for the first time. They are some true rockers and they sounded great, that’s for sure! I always take the opportunity to admire Larry Tremblay’s Marine Tribute Bike when I can! What a beautiful tribute to our military and fallen soldiers like Larry’s son. Larry you are an incredible person for honoring your boy with such a work of art. I love it and my heart goes out to you,. Some day you will see him again and when you do, please tell him I said thank you. “The greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.” (JOHN 15:13) And as if all of this wasn’t cool enough…how about those welders? I have never seen so many cool things made out of metal. The smoking hot bike by Shane Gatto Customs, the jewelry, and wow the sculptures were amazing! Just take a look at some of the pictures. This was definitely not your average bike event. What a great day for such a great cause. This was a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer and community hospice of Albany in memory of Debra Nati, William Gillenwalters and Dean Harding. Scott and Michele, you have out done yourselves again. You are both truly great people with huge selfless hearts. Your hard work and good deeds are unending. Good luck to all of the talented welders and hard workers at the Modern Welding School and happy 75th anniversary. Until next time, ride on! Toni S.

NEW ROC HARLEY

MOTORCYCLE OLYMPICS This was NewRoc Harley’s best motorcycle Olympics to date. With a lot more competitors, better competitors (some even making their way from New Jersey) and a new event thrown in, it all made for a lot of fun for the participants and entertaining for the crowd. At the top of the list for the most entertaining guys: Jeff S., if you didn’t see his performance, you missed it, all I can say is this guy has guts. I have heard a lot of excuses as to why people did not want to participate in the games – Jeff should be an example to them all, he just kept going and going! By far Jeff garnered the most applause for the day with the exception of 6 year old Danny on his electric bike. And the other most entertaining: Joe P., I have never seen or heard anything like this…by see I mean doing every event, even zipping through the obstacle course, on a bike with huge ape hangers. As for what I heard? Joe scraped everything around all the corners, his kickstand, pipes and I will swear I even saw him scrape his frame. I was always impressed with Ralph H. and Manny R. scraping their floorboards around turns and so with them in mind I got a special trophy this year for the most floorboard scrapes in one turn on the obstacle course. When I heard Joe take his turn I thought for sure the competition for Manny and Ralph was over, Ralph did end up taking the trophy though but only by one scrape over Joe. The new event added this year was the Disc Toss and top prize went to Joe P. Even though the NewRoc H-D events are really just for fun, other first place awards went to Ralph H. in the slow race and obstacle course and to Tom L. in the barrel push. Let’s also not forget new this year were the ‘kid competitors’ on their bicycles, looking forward to seeing Nicholas, Breanna, Aiden, Adrianna and Danny next year. Check out more photos of all the competitors, big and small, in the gallery at NRHD. com By Annemarie Albate

I get a lot of requests for a recommendation for a tattoo artist, and when I toss out some respectable names, they tell me, “I can’t travel to Philadelphia/California/ Spain.” Don’t fret, I have some good news! Some of the world’s best artists will come to you! Tattoo conventions are the tattoo collector’s version of Lollapalooza or Ozzfest. Touring tattooists. Rows and rows of both established and up and coming artists for you to browse through like a swap meet. You’ll even be introduced to different aftercare products and magazines; there is usually even an opportunity for you to be photographed for magazine features. My most recent piece was done at the Boston Tattoo Convention by an artist from Philly (Myke Chambers). He had already filled all of his available slots, but I convinced him to hook me up with this little sleepy pillow (pictured). Keep in mind that the artist you prefer may need you to schedule your appointment long before the day of the convention. High demand is often a good indication of a quality artist. Since we are on the topic of choosing an artist, take notice of my pillow tattoo. That smooth, perfect outline is commonly referred to as “clean lines.” Clean lines are crucial if you want a beautiful tattoo. Check out attending artists for the upcoming AM-JAM tattoo festival in Syracuse. Even if you are not ready to sit in front of hundreds of people while you get drilled with a tattoo machine, there is a lot to see. For starters, I will be there! I give away free hugs. Not all of us tattooed weirdos are scary and unapproachable. As a matter-of-fact, most of us are quite cuddly. 35

CATSKILL MOUNTAIN THUNDER September 15th-18th, 2011 By Iron Mike Gross

A great time was had by all at the Catskill Thunder at Blackthorn Resort. As in the past it was a huge success. There were thousands of bikes and riders from all over the country as well as some of the top builders in the country. Ron Finch, from Finch Custom Cycles was in the house along with Satan Cycles front and center with Northeast Chop Shop and Deadwood Choppers to mention a few. They displayed some of their masterpieces as well as a build off competition. There was also the International Trick Riders that displayed their talents for the mass crowd as well as The Wall of Death. What these guys do is absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!! We had a blast meeting all different types of people and their amazing stories.....A particular group stands out and that is the crazy bunch with the Hog Town Hilton II...........great people, down to earth they greeted us with a hug and a kiss, just like we had know each years.........that’s the best part about being a biker, like the old saying goes: a friend will say, “Hello!” But a biker friend will give you a big hug and kiss hello. We can definitely say we made a lot of biker friends this past weekend! The bands were excellent as always.......with 38 Special rocking the night away. Great performances by all! A great time is always had by all!!!!!!! Can’t wait for next year’s Catskill Thunder.............. RIDE SAFE MY FRIENDS!!!

TECH TIP . OIL WINTERIZE NOW OR SPRING (FOR A BIG BILL LATER) By Shawn E. Sweeney, Cycle Connect

Most of us don’t live in a climate where riding year round is a common thing and something about snow and two wheels just doesn’t seem to work, although my grandfather did have a set of tire chains on his BMW and side car. But he was a little nuts. Here, we go by the numbers. 1. CHOSE A GOOD LOCATION. When possible, chose a storage location away from windows. The ultraviolet light can fade paint and plastic parts. Direct sunlight can raise the ambient temperature of the storage area which will promote condensation when the sun goes down. Moisture trapped will condense on the bike and then the rust monster is back! You can eliminate this threat by using a motorcycle cover made from breathable material. 2. DON’T WAIT UNTIL SPRING TO CHANGE THE OIL. I always see ads that promote motorcycle storage and, for an extra fee, they will change the oil in the spring. I scream, “You idiots!” They expect me to pay them to leave contaminated oil in my engine all winter and let the acid and other corrosives that are a b-product of combustion (one of the reasons we change our oil) sit in my bike all winter? NOT! Changing the oil is a must do before storage. In fact, I strongly recommend changing all the fluids - brake, clutch and coolant.

informative link: www.goldeagle.com/engine_care/ 411onethanol.aspx, STA-BIL now has several different products including one for ethanol. But I have heard from several sources that the marine STA-BIL works very well. I have not tried it myself but plan to do so this winter. Key to remember is to fill up the tank with fuel to prevent rusting, add stabilizer and drain carbs, and, if carb bowls can’t be drained, turn off fuel and run them dry. 5. SET TIRE PRESSURE. Tire pressure should be set to max psi on the side wall of the tire. This will slow the air in the tire from condensing in the cold and help prevent side wall cracking when the tire starts to flatten out. A small piece of cardboard under the tires works well if you don’t have a way to get the wheels off the ground. 6. WAX AND POLISH EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. WD-40 works great as a protector for metal and chrome. Add a teaspoon of oil in each spark plug hole and turn the motor over a few times by hand to prevent moisture from rusting the piston rings to the cylinder wall. You may also want to place plastic bags over the air cleaner and exhaust, held in place with a rubber band, to help keep out moisture and rodents.

Is that enough information? If this sounds like too much to do you can always ride throughout the winter – I’ll be posting my grandfather’s motorcycle tire 3. THE BATTERY. If possible remove your bat- chains on eBay. tery and store it in a warm place. But even more important, keep it on a battery tender or trickle charger. The preferred unit is a tender that cycles off and on so you don’t cook your battery. You’ll pay a little more but it’s worth it. Note that it doesn’t work if you don’t hook it up. For every ten units we sell, at least one guy shows up each spring with a dead battery stating that he bought the charger but never hooked it up. I, of course, gladly hook him up with a new battery. 4. THE FUEL SYSTEM. Once upon a time, STABIL was the answer - until Ethanol changed all that. We won’t go into an Ethanol discussion but here is an 45

BEAUTY FOR A CURE BENEFIT The Tack Room Bar . Long Island . September 30th, 2011

We kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month on September 30th with an event at the Tack Room in Bethpage, N.Y. The turnout was overwhelming! Hundreds showed up to support the cause. The place was set up with a Chinese Auction and 50/50 raffles were being sold. Everyone was in the mood to help out and had a great time doing so. Live music provided by the great band Lighthouse. Dave from Big Boar & Gerry from ReNu were behind the bar, Tom Mele from Harrison Law Group even wore a pink bra which was stuffed with donations to help Beauty For A Cure, a charity on Long Island that helps fund many different breast cancer charities on the Island. All the money raised here stays here on Long Island, stated Christina Smith, founder of Beauty for a Cure! Christina herself is a Breast Cancer Survivor, and wanted to do something to give back and help others in need. Beauty For A Cure would like to thank everyone that came out to support and a special thanks to: Kim & Rosie from The Tack Room, The Harrison Law Group, Lax For Hope, The staff from Top Cuts Salon, Big Boar Cycles, Salon Odyssey, ReNu Powder Coating, Fast Lane Biker, Sparrow Tattoo, Lighthouse, George Barry & Tom Mele. Name: Susan Tornatore Age: 37 Occupation: High School Teacher Where do you live: Wappingers Falls, NY What do you ride: NY, CT, MA; Riding the Blue Ridge Parkway and to Sturgis & Yellow Stone National Park on my 2005 HD Street Glide. I started by buying an 883 HD-Sportster then hiring Christine for professional lessons. I rode it for 7,000 miles in one summer and moved up to a new HD 2002 Softail Standard the following spring. (The guy who had originally ordered it, found out that his wife was pregnant at 42 and was forced to cancel but it gave me the opportunity to buy it.) I rode that Softail for 20,000 miles in just three years. I was tired of the skinny front tire and ready for a full touring bike when at the end of my trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I found a 2005 HD Street Glide at the HD dealer in Gettysburg, PA . I love it! The next summer I rode from NY, to Canada, to Michigan and out to Sturgis with friends. After some convincing to go another 500 miles to Yellow Stone, I got to lead the way. It was awesome, one of the best trips of my life. Each bike has had its own name and personality but my third bike was definitely the charm! How long have you been riding: Over 10 years Who influenced you? A friend Self taught or classes? Private instructor Favorite ride route? Route 301, NY Country or city rider? CYCLE CITY GRAND OPENING

174 Rt. 17, Sloatsburg, NY . www.cyclecityny.com . 845-712-5406 October 1st & 2nd, 2011 . By Fast Lane Frank Cycle City kicked off its grand opening in style. They had the Big Dog’s Tractor Trailer, music, great food, and great deals. I met the staff for the first time and was impressed by their knowledge of the industry, not to mention they were very nice people, accommodating to all their customers. Cycle City is owned by Carl Mancuso and they have Frank Caramico, formerly of New York Harley Davidson, as the Service Manger. Cycle City has a nice, big waiting area with a couch, free coffee, and a flat screen TV. They have a great selection of jackets, shirts, helmets, and parts. They carry new and used Big Dog Motorcycles, used Harley Davidsons and other motorcycles. Their business offers service, repair, fabrications, and complete bike builds specializing in High Performance Harley Davidson, and servicing all American V-Twins. I had some of the great food catered by Rhoads Tavern and enjoyed the beautiful day. I talked with a lot of the sales reps and checked out some of the great motorcycles. I checked out the 2011 Big Dog bagger, with its high cubic inch motor and sleek look and I thought it was one hell of a ride. Go down and check out Cycle City and tell them Fast Lane Biker NY sent you.
